The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

Bio

A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.

I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.

Aubrey Hughes

"Freya!" Spurred on by adrenaline, Aubrey clambered forward, but the damage was done. A dark red cloud billowed in the water around Freya, while the goblin... She wasn't imagining it. Its wounds from earlier began to close up, its grin even revealing the two teeth it had lost earlier starting to grow back. "Shit... Guys! Do something!" Flailing at the creature, Aubrey stared wildly at the rest of the group, the newcomer in particular, who let loose an arrow.

Aubrey stumbled back. A split second later, a yelp went up, followed by a splash as the goblin toppled. Frog-like eyes bulging, it clawed at the sharp branch jutting from its side. In a flash, the little girl was upon it, jabbing a knife into its back. It screeched again, its legs going slack, which allowed the girl to drag it off of Freya as easily as she would a rag doll. Aubrey watched, open-mouthed, as the child drove the knife into it again and again until its mangled body stopped twitching. For all her gratitude, the sheer ferocity of this girl startled her - it was clear she must have had to do this before. Many times before.

Panting, she crawled away from the unmoving form, towards Freya and the forest child. "Three. Three of them," she gasped. "Well, two now, hopefully... Another of those frog freaks, and a shapeshifting water horse." She cast a glance towards the entrance, and frowned.

The entrance was gone. Aubrey found herself facing a rocky wall, as if the tunnel had never been there. "Ugh, can't even the geography be simple around here?" she groaned. "Everyone?" Wet hair whipped her face as she glanced from side to side. Once she saw the group hadn't been separated, she sighed in relief. Well, at least that solved the issue of the pursuers, but presented another slight issue. A cave that kept changing would be just a tad difficult to navigate.

First things first, she told herself. The relative safety made now as good a time as any to treat the injured. Rising to her feet, she stumbled towards Freya. "Brenton, quick!"

Brenton Ackerley

Through the panic-induced exhaustion, Brenton staggered forward, but the girl sprang into action right away. He gaped at the flurry of jabs - ok, this girl had to have been here a while, and been through some messed up shit, to fight like that. "Remind me never to get on your bad side," he said with a weak smile. "Let's go, before anything else gets through."

As Aubrey furrowed her brow at the entrance - or rather, what had once been the entrance - it became clear nothing else was going to get through. Which possibly included them. Brenton's mouth went dry, terror resurging. "W-well, not like we wanted to backtrack anyway," he said, voice shaking as he scanned around desperately for any hint of an exit. Tunnels stretched ahead of them, some of which he could have sworn weren't there earlier, but there was no telling where they'd lead.

Not that now was the time to let panic get to him. Hand pressed to his ribs, he put away the pocket knife and headed over to Freya. With a grunt, he crouched and took out the medical kit. "It's ok, it's gonna be ok," he said, hands clammy and trembling despite his words, making him fumble with the disposable gloves and gauze. So very comforting, he scolded himself as he pressed the gauze to the wound. "You'll be alright, and we've got to find a way out soon enough..."

He turned to the wild girl. "Thanks there. I take it you know the way out, right...?"

The group wouldn't have had to worry about their pursuers anyway.

Outside of the cave, the lake's surface rippled as the kelpie retreated, casting a pale-eyed glare behind him before diving down. Several feet away, the second goblin lay sprawled and motionless in the grass, its throat a wreckage of gouges.

A figure hunched over it, clawed fingers dripping blood, fur matted with his own. With a pained growl, the creature limped towards the cave. His eyes narrowed. He'd lost them. It was a veritable maze in there, space twisting and turning on itself, but he'd have to find his way around enough to get to them, before anyone else did.

His form shimmering and shrinking, he scurried into the cave, along the ever-shifting routes while keeping alert for the true path through the complex.

The teens, several chambers away, wouldn't know yet, but either someone was looking out for them, or they had another enemy on their trail.
Ugh, been overwhelmed with stuff lately, but am catching up with RPs. Going to have a post up within the next 24 hours!
Jessamyn "Jess" Bailey

"I know Roxy has to be here," Jess replied. "But please, she doesn't have to be involved with the business. I'm the one you want for that." It wouldn't work, but she had to say something, just so Roxy would know she had someone on her side.

When Maxwell spoke, his words hit harder than they should have. Leaked information. Of course, that sudden cold surge wasn't her own fear, but that of the two men. On reflex, her eyes flicked to the main source of it, the man who straightened his back. If confidential information was getting out, didn't she have a duty to say? What if it was personal customer or employee data? Then again, what if it was about shady goings on, and this man was in the right? And she had a duty to protect Roxy.

In any case, she'd made it obvious. With her lips pressed together, her shoulders raised, and her eyes on the man, Reginald and Maxwell would put two and two together. Through her tight throat, she spoke up. "Ok, what happened? What kind of information was it?" she asked. Through the panic, she'd picked up on something else - confusion. A hint that the man wasn't entirely at fault.

Rose half expected Archer to run in and stop her, but thankfully, she remained alone in the ramshackle room. Her footsteps echoed against the cracked floorboards as she approached the stairwell, wrinkling her nose from the stink of mold. She faltered as, through the dust motes, she saw a graffiti symbol that looked oddly fresh amidst the decay. A symbol everyone knew as that of Amalgam.

Despite the heat of sunlight through windows, an empty laugh from upstairs chilled Rose to the bone. It sounded nothing like the joyous chuckle she knew. It wasn't him, her instincts warned her, it had to be a trick... But even if it was, it was a Ravel related one, and she had to get to the bottom of it.

With a stiff shoulder, an eye she could barely open, a weapon requiring training she didn't have, and no allies around. Yeah. Those odds weren't exactly looking great.

Nonetheless, she drew Thorn and headed up the stairs, heart creeping higher into her throat with each step. A hallway stretched out before her, lined with doors, some closed, others hanging off of their hinges. "Jay?" she called, inching down the hall, peering into room after room. "Where are you, and what's going on?" If he was here, involved in any way, she wasn't going to let him down again. The open doors, however, revealed nothing but dust and disintegrating furniture. Rose tried one of the closed doors, but it wouldn't budge.

She gasped, head whipping around, as a voice broke the silence. A voice from behind a wall, a gap between two doors.

"I'm not sure where I am....Vern?....Where are you?"

A shaky laugh spilled from her as she sprinted over. It was him. He'd called her Vern, not that stuffy full name Laverna. "Oh, Jay, what happened? How did you get here? How did you..." Her voice cracked. "Fuck, I'm sorry, I'm sorry I wasn't there." She looked into one of the rooms flanking the patch of wall, breath catching - she still couldn't know what to expect - only to see nobody in there. A glance into the other room revealed the same.

"O-ok, ok..." She took a deep breath, studying the wall, tracing her fingers along it in case this was some kind of weird illusion. "What can you see in there? And who brought you here?" The questions poured forth, one after the other, as she struggled to make sense of the situation.
@vaguely

Troy's brusque reply earned a little frown from Antoinetta, but she didn't press. Was he worried his starter would get him laughed at? Or was he simply not in the mood to socialise? She couldn't blame him after the earlier fiasco. She strode alongside him into the Academic Wing, not that striding was easy when she had to stay on tiptoes to keep her balance.

She tensed as she spotted two students standing outside class 2-A, looking right at the group as if they'd been waiting. The girl's smile, however, held no malice, only friendliness. Head up high, Netty returned the grin. "Hey, I'm Antoinetta, as you'll know." Not just from the name badge, but from her introduction earlier, which surely would have made quite the impression if only Zaria had been looking where she was going.

At Evey's mention of the incident, Netty hid the flare of embarrassment behind a laugh. "Pffff, as if I'd let something like that get to me," she replied. "And nobody's gonna be making fun of us later down the line." Here, at least, was one exception to those jerks by the look of it. Masaru, though... Netty wasn't sure what to make of him. Much like Troy, his quietness and neutral expression made him difficult to read. As soon as he mentioned battles, Netty bristled again, ribs tightening. The challenge she'd issued, it seemed, was swiftly coming back to haunt them.

She hadn't expected Evey's response to set off even more alarm bells. Just like that, the prefect's smiles-and-sunshine demeanour had given way to a rather less pleasant one, then switched back as if nothing had happened. Netty shuffled back a step. Something about Evey reminded her of those fake friends who turned against people when their guard was down.

"Yeah, we'd better get to class," Netty answered, backing up Troy and Zaria. "Got to make sure everything goes smoothly from now on, after all. So, later!" Some chance of that, she thought, holding out a Pokeball to Mellona. "Hey Mel, time to come back now, but we can look around after classes." The Combee fluttered over, letting her trainer pet her once more, then disappeared into the capsule.

With that, Antoinetta marched into the classroom after Zaria, wasting no time in taking a seat.

Just a busy patch, @Ryona Zako? Nothing bad?
@jujube @Crimson Flame @Ryik

The Gust, while not a harsh one, swept Netty's hat askew again. Straightening it and smoothing her hair, strands of which stood up anyway, she sighed. "I was just saying things that needed to be said," she told Mellona, before turning her attention back to Zaria. She appreciated Mel at least, but still...

Nothing to worry about. You're blowing this out of proportion. Just relax. Nothing to get upset over. Netty's face heated with irritation and shame. She'd heard that too often from well-meaning people who talked down to those they tried to help. Was Zaria that naive, or was she being deliberately patronising? "Ugh, stating an opinion is one thing, being flat out insulting about it is another," Netty huffed. In her worked up state, she didn't think over how rude her own tone could be. After all, didn't Zaria need a good talking to? "Say contests aren't your kind of thing, but don't call them lame. It takes creativity, perseverance and effort, on the part of the coordinator and Pokemon, to put on a show the crowd will enjoy."

She turned to Tim, trying to hide how much his words resonated with her. It was all very well to imagine being in the spotlight in front of a huge, cheering crowd. Actually standing there, under the scrutiny of judges and spectators alike, faced with the possibility of letting down her Pokemon, would be another matter. "Ahaha! Like that's gonna happen when it's my turn! A few rounds in, and they'll know better than to laugh. And you can always watch." For all her blustering, a tremble slipped into her voice. The sight of Tim cuddling the little puppy was what she needed, not that she'd admit it, the only hint being a slight smile.

As the spat seemed to ease, Mellona's triple frown softened into a look of concern at her trainer. She continued her conversation with Magnet, giving Antoinetta that worried glance every so often. "Beeeee." Excusing herself, she fluttered down to Netty. "Beeeee?"

Netty patted Mellona's waxy shell. "I'm ok," she reassured the Combee. "More than ok. First official day at a place like this." Grinning, she gestured at the castle and grounds - which, now she got a fresh look at them, seemed a little too grand for her to belong there.

"Anyway, yeah. Moving along," she said, facing Troy, "let's see your starter."

Bump for two more people!
@Platinum Cobra I'm sorry but since it's been six weeks now with no word, I'm going to have to take it as meaning you're not in this any more, and take your characters off of the list.

Reopening applications for two more people, since DC probably isn't coming back.
