I'm looking to be a woodcutter if that's alright.

Also with the character template up, would it be alright for us to post up a character sheet now? Or should we wait until the OOC comes up?

Absolutely go for it with the woodcutter!

I would save the character sheet for the OOC, since you'd just have to copy/paste anyway. :)

Hmmm, since we're tossing around character I was leaning towards some sort of botanist healer type character, but it looks like there are a few people that are already on that train. :P

You can never have too many botanists! You guys can argue about the best uses for fishberries and whether the poisonous dangleroot should be used for medicinal purposes!
Interested as well (:

Awesome! Thank you! :D

absolutely interested! trying to decide between a healer/medic bookworm character and prince zuko-style honor journey warrior. can't wait until the OOC crops up!

Aw man, that's a tough call. Thanks for dropping in!

I've edited in the CS for the Traveller in the first post. The CS template is insanely simple and open-ended -- feel free to use it as you will.

The OOC shall be up . . . at some point in the not-too-distant future!
Super interested

Awesome! Thank you! :D

Extremely interested! How many are you looking for?

Also what kind of skills would be as civilians be able to possess? I haven't had the pleasure of being in any of your previous RPs, but what are your stances on interesting and different types of weapons/tools? Nothing crazy or overpowered, maybe even underpowered, but unique?

Excellent! I have to admit, I have an extremely hard time turning people away or rejecting applications unless absolutely necessary. In a perfect world, I think five is the magic number. Any more than that and chaos starts to undermine progress. However, I'm well aware that a lot of people drop in the first few weeks, so I always accept more at first than I intend to keep, if that makes sense?

Civilians could possess whatever skills you think might be cool to have, really. The people of Enn could have some very unusual hobbies. The same goes for unique tools and weapons: go ahead and go nuts. There's no magic or superhuman abilities available in any form, so I'm fairly sure that whatever you cook up will not crash the plot.

I like this premise. Color me interested.

Interested is a magnificent color. Thank you! :D

This. This hits all of my interests. I would like to join this RP, anything that's inspired by mushi-shi, Kino's journey and undertale is amazing in my books!

I'm guessing were not supposed to have any Fighters at the start, if we came from a peaceful place. I'm guessing skills that would make sense is reading, writing, math, singing, botany and all that boring stuff?

You are automatically awesome. <3 Thanks!

Actually you could have a fighter at the start, if you wanted. Even the most peaceful city probably has weapons and a militia and at least a bit of crime. You could even say a subculture in the city has a fascination with weapons, or they learn fighting as a discipline. But to be honest, the point is to begin with a bored character. Otherwise why would they join up? ;)

Somebody has good taste in anime and video games... I'm interested.

Thank you! I'd be honored to have you along! :)

Fancy seeing another one of your RPs, Mokley, I think I'll be coming along on this one.

Damiann!! Hi there! Absolutely, I'm thrilled to death you'd put up with me again! XD

Interested. More info on the Traveller? Also, I'm not sure if this is supposed to be an unspoken rule or not, but are civilians allowed to start out even a fraction as badass as the Traveller?

What about someone who grew up posh and fancies themselves a duelist? I'd like to play that kind of character.

Thank you! I'm working on a character sheet for the Traveller, but I haven't quite decided yet what he/she will be like. Once I've got that I'll edit in the example character sheet. I can say that the Traveller will likely have a very strong, probably tropey personality that may not get along with everyone. They will definitely not be a hardass drill sergeant. This is not boot camp!

There's no limit on how badass you want to start out -- the fact remains that the characters, no matter how badass they are, are inexperienced with the outside world. Just rationalize how your character developed those skills and you're golden.

I should also mention that the character sheet will not even have a space for skills. Skills don't matter, and a character doesn't necessarily need them at all. I recommend using skills to highlight your character's personality more than anything.

I really shouldn't be posting this... temptation is too much. I'm interested.

Give in to the temptation! ;) Thank you!

Ooh, this RP sounds very interesting ^.^ Really interested in this!

Awesome! Thank you! :D

Sounds rad

You too! ;)

Hiya Red! :D Figured it was something like that. Hope everything's ok! Welcome back!

Anise growing up makes me think of how long it must have been IC -- since there's no night and day. It's been almost a year for us, but for the characters ... maybe two days. Three tops.

1/24/16: NOW RECRUITING FOR CHAPTER 2

The high, polished geared gates of Cogswall opened for the first time in years, to admit a small group of curious-looking Travellers. They came with stories of danger and magic, waving silly drawings on paper as if they were weapons. Preposterous! Surely Cogswall's reinforced walls, shining towers, mechanical soldiers and experienced gunsmen could handle any emergency, as they had for hundreds of years!

THE PREMISE

This is the City of Cogswall: a proud steampunk city that is as full of corruption as it is of soot and grime. Like all cities, Cogswall is surrounded on all sides by a high wall. No one knows or cares what lies beyond the wall: the citizens gratefully leave adventures to the Travellers.

Throughout this world, the majority of people live out their lives in walled cities without ever glimpsing the outside. No one is forced to remain behind locked gates -- but those that do step out of the Cogswall gates are stripped of their citizenship and residence. The dirty business of exploring and adventuring is the job of the outcasts, the people called Travellers.

Traveller is a title given to those adventurous few who move between cities. They may be messengers, merchants, beast-hunters and storytellers. Almost every city will welcome a Traveller in hope of trading money and supplies for the Traveller's skills and knowledge.

Your character is a citizen of Cogswall; they have lived all their lives within these walls. Travellers are so rare that the gates rarely open at all. So now, when a group of Travellers arrives and has the audacity to warn the city of an incoming danger, no respectable citizen would ever take them seriously.

GAMEPLAY

Heavy influence is taken from Kino's Journey, Mushi-Shi, Undertale, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, among others. The focus will be on exploration, problem-solving and character interaction. Expect colorful and trippy scenarios, anime physics, tropey plots, and stuff that doesn't quite make logical sense. This is a fantasy world where, outside the secluded city of Cogswall, anything goes.

The RP will progress (at first) based on a series of missions dictated by the Traveller or requested by citizens of foreign cities. Throughout the journey, characters can expect to gain new skills, abilities, tools and allies that will help them become strong and competent Travellers themselves. There will be an overarching plot involving a Big Bad -- traces of that plot will be introduced early in the RP, but it's not the immediate objective. If all goes according to plan, the story will begin happily innocent and slowly progress into something darker. If you're looking for a consistently happy-go-lucky RP, this is probably not for you.

CHARACTERS

Characters originate in the city of Cogswall, which is your average gritty-yet-advanced Steampunk city. Everyone is human. There is no magic. Your character has probably heard tales passed down from long-ago Travellers about sigils and spells and intelligent monsters, but they are only stories. You are free to create locations and cultures within the city where needed to flesh out your character's history.

SAMPLE CHARACTER SHEET

Name: Spook

Abstract: A masked Traveller with a permanent grin

Detail:
When Spook stands still and quiet, he is a most menacing figure: the mask and hood and well-used sword give passersby good reason to avoid crossing his path. He looks like something that might spend his free time summoning dark hellions or snatching children in the night.

This, according to the Travellers who know him, is a hilarious idea. The very thought of Spook doing something as productive as summoning a beast of any kind is simply ridiculous. Spook is best known for being cheap, for his endless sense of humor, and for taking nothing at all seriously. He couldn't pretend to be evil if his life depended on it.

The Travellers have asked him why he knows the rare magic runes of the Magi. They've asked him how he learned to fight so well when he barely had the discipline to stand up straight. They've tried, time and time again, to see what he was hiding under that mask -- but to this day none have succeeded.

Name: Soey

Abstract: The best and most renowned Traveler, holder of every world Traveling record
The monk put up a useless fight and was knocked bloodily aside in the process, and Alphonse didn't give a whit. Whatever happened to her was her own damn fault. Instead of panicking -- instead of feeling sorry or hateful -- Al kept a close eye on the groon's movements.

It just so happened that just as the groon tore open the violent monk, it achieved the proper placement.

A slow, smug grin grew on Al's face, and he yanked on the string.

High above, a wasp nest exploded with a splintery pop and a billowing dark cloud of spiked wasps dropped directly onto the groon's head. The groon howled and smashed itself in the face with its own paws, spinning and stomping and flailing in a confused rage. The wasps were driven mad by the noise and the pungent stench of the groon; their stingers were merciless.

Alphonse leaped forward, smashed the bottle at the groon's feet, and dashed away just as a cloud of hissing green smoke engulfed the groon. The wasps shriveled and fell to the ground while the groon's roar turned into a pitiful whine. Its eyes drooped, and then the great beast toppled unconscious into the trees, snapping limbs on its way.

Alphonse clambered atop a boulder to see whether the groon was indeed knocked out completely -- then he dragged a stick closer to Din and poked her with it. "Still alive?"

Anise's newfound power reached into the owl's mind, and the bird flapped and fluttered and crash-landed, skidding into the ground with the blue stone gripped in its talons, as if the very act of peering into the owl's thoughts was enough to knock it out of the air.

Anise would feel a sense of entrapment -- a patient and willful prisoner -- and a confident female presence. She held no ill will toward the princess, Simon or Chris, but there was a certain resentment toward Reus.

The owl hopped to her feet, bleary and a bit dizzy, the chain of the necklace jangling in her claws. She glared directly into the blue glow, feathers ruffled, and concentrated a message to Anise's mind:

My name is Wendetae. I'm the greatest warrior the Kith have ever known. She held up the stone on the black chain. Destroy this and throw it in the lake. The Lady of the Pond should return to the water before she really goes mad.

Reus growled deep in his throat. Wendetae the owl glared up at him. Her thoughts went out to Anise. ...And get rid of the mongrel. He's a pirate. There was a deeper betrayal in the owl's thoughts -- a long, complicated history between the owl and the wolf.

Reus huffed and went back to the hole he was digging. His nails scraped against metal: underneath the dirt was a platform like the one Anise and Simon had arrived on. It was carved with crude runes.

The door to the old pirate stronghold, Wendetae explained to Anise. Idiot dog doesn't realize it's been raided by Kith. Let him find out the hard way. Get the new kid to open it. The owl fluttered a wing in Chris' direction.
Welcoming new allies of Kith or Pirates!

Hmmm. HMMMM. Lemme think out loud a bit!

Goals right now include finding the pirate ship, freeing the trapped spirits, and reuniting the lanterns/eggs.

The green lantern and the violet lantern have been lost, and are in the hands of the pirates of gryphon roost. Anise holds the blue lantern. The red lantern still hangs from its original tree. The white lantern is in an unknown location.

The pirates' goal is to seal away the lanterns forever so they can never be brought together. They are scared to death of what might happen if they are, and so they are willing to do anything to keep them apart.

The Lady of the Pond has shown her loyalty to the Lord of Shadow, but she is powerless alone.

Tyaelaem is dead, and his spirit is momentarily very weak but not gone. The dead are prevented from moving on from this world.

We have yet to see a single other Kith besides Tyaelaem and the dead ones at the mouth of the grotto.

Reus has his own agenda, and Anise happens to be helping him toward it. The owl also is unaffiliated with Kith or Pirate, but has learned to take advantage of its surroundings.

Ok I think I know what has to be done now. All of you need more resources if you're going to defeat the big bad.

I'm sure it's obvious, but I'm totally making this up as we go. x3
