This is a unique roleplay in which the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender will be crossed over with the universe of Pokemon, thus allowing each bender to pair up with a familiar that uses a similar set of abilities to their own. It will contain a light story for people to follow but will more or less be focused on the personal journey that each character will endure.

The Story:
Since this is going to be such a different style of roleplay, it will more than likely be set in a different timeline to the one that contained Aang and Korra. I will admit that I haven't completely thought of a storyline details for the adventure and I am willing to listen to the input of those that enter the roleplay. As a general construct I was thinking that the current Avatar would be an Earthbender and at this moment in time he has fallen gravely ill, making it difficult for him/her to keep the balance throughout the world. Due of the severity of his/her illness it has the possibility to break the link between the spiritual world and the current realm, triggering a chain reaction that may end all bending abilities.

The Earth Kingdom, both hungry for power and believing that the Avatar's illness was the cause of another nation, has set forth and started to push their might unto the rest of the world. The Fire Nation, who is currently under a heavy spotlight, is being blamed for poisoning the Avatar. Could this be a selfish desire to trigger the next Avatar cycle who will be a Firebender? Throughout all this the Air Nomads are desperately trying to disarm the tense situation in a more peaceful manner. They believe that everyone's hunger for anger and short-sighted blame is blinding all those that should be focusing their efforts elsewhere, or more importantly on someone else. The Water Tribes, who are both experts healers and ones blessed with raising the previous Avatar, have been commanded to help aid in the recovery process. While this is an important duty, the Waterbenders don't seem too happy about it and feel that they are being treated more like slaves to the Earth Kingdom than actual people.

Times are tough, people will be less trusting of those that are not of their kind, and the people that you meet may either become worthy allies, or a fierce opponents. As a player your character(s) have been thrown into this harsh world whether they like it or not. They are normal people, living normal lives with not much to really aspire to other than the faint call of adventure.

Pokemon and Benders:
There will be a set of rules that each character will have to follow.
You can only choose 1 Nation to be a part of. (You are not the Avatar. Deal with it)
The Pokemon Nation match-ups will be as followed.
Water Nation: Water, Ice, Grass, Poison
Air Nation: Flying, Psychic, Ghost, Bug
Fire Nation: Fire, Electric, Dark, Dragon
Earth Nation: Ground, Rock, Steel, Fighting
You can have a Pokemon if it will gain a type assigned to your Nation in it's final evolution.
(ie: A Torchic can be used by an Earth Nation as it will gain the 'Fighting' Type)
If by evolution a Pokemon is not compatible your Nation cannot use that Pokemon.
Normal and Fairy type can be used by all Nations but if there is a second type attribute than only the nation with that attribute can use that Pokemon.
(ie: All Nations can use a Ratata, but only Water Nations can use an Azurill since Azumarill is a Water/Fairy type)

Adding to this, new Characters will only be able to start off with a single Pokemon that is at it's first stage of evolution. As you venture out onto your journey you will have the opportunity to extend your party up to a maximum of three Pokemon. In order for your Pokemon to evolve your Bender will have to train with them and teach them various techniques for them to master. Therefore the stronger your Bender becomes, the higher the chances are that your Pokemon will be allowed to evolve.

Remember however that your Bender is a normal person so their skills will be fairly poor, much like Katara in the first few episodes. For Pokemon with only two stage evolutions or no evolutions they will be given an easy to judge skill ranking (ie: apprentice, intermediate, master). Master ranks will allow secondary evolutions but more importantly the Pokemon's full potential. Other evolutions will be discussed later and catered for the needed situations. (No Mega Evolutions)

Battles and Fighting:
I always disliked how Pokemon were roleplayed with the ability to only know 4 moves. It's silly, counter constructive, and simply an over-abundance on controlling the roleplay to the n'th degree. In this Roleplay any Pokemon or Human conflicts will be treated more like an Arena battle. You can discuss with me how certain moves/techniques may work, as well as type matchups, but I don't want to see any "Pikachu used Thundershock, it was super effective" silliness. I can talk about this more in later posts for if people want clarification on the way I want things done.

Requirements of the Players:
This is going to be a casual to advanced level roleplay with an emphasis on quality posting of a reasonable size whilst also responding to the IC around a couple times a week. I will also not be accepting too many applicants as GMing does seriously affect my anxiety and trying to motivate such a large crowd is not as easy as it sounds. This means I may be on the lookout for a possible Co-GM to help but I will not be handing that privilege out for the sake of handing it out. It'll be someone I can trust and who will be able to keep the Roleplay going if I'm caught up for a couple of days. Finally, in order to prevent several people from gravitating to one Nation I will be limiting characters to 2 per Nation.

Not everyonecan be a level 72 Salvador Gunzerker with twin Norfleets. ;)
I hate it when a roleplay just starts and everyone specializes in the same general area in a roleplay that has the possibility to be diverse. (I.e too many healers, fighters, bards, etc.)

It always seems to be an issue when given a choice. I've noticed it a few times and people seem to gravitate towards a certain class, species, genre, etc. I think this needs to be always in the back of the mind and if the GM wants to limit slots, than he or she should.

Another way to get around this could be crossing classes over. Don't have a great example but it might be enough to break that general mould.
@Gelatinous Cube I found a glitch with Cosmic Cosmo that give you unlimited health. It was something easy if I remember where you just have to beat stage one, pick up all health packs and not get hit. xD

And speaking of Apogee, they made some awesome games! Hocus Pocus, Raptor, Crystal Caves and Maths Rescue!

I'm really curious for what the issue actually is, then. Do let us know once you've fixed it, @Mahz. Also since it's an issue with a bbcode parser and not actually the servers, it seems rather obsolete to have a 2 hourly reboot thing. Wouldn't it be easier to write a small program that just reboots the server whenever it detects the cpu usage is above a certain percentage (i.e. 98> is a reboot?).

I'm a complete moron when it comes to this shit however. Might be easier to just reboot it every now and then. I'll just be European and suffer.

Sometimes a timed interval is better than waiting for a certain threshold to be reached. Even at 90% CPU the system is working pretty hard and that wouldn't trigger the reboot. Then there's also a case where something may happen and the CPU does have to work a bit harder. If it happens to go above that 98% it'll abort what it's doing and trip the reboot even if it wasn't needed. It's actually a risky way of doing things as it may cause corrupt and damaged files.

To make it easier to understand try loading up task manager if you have windows and watch the performance graph. You'll see that doing various things will impact the RAM, CPU and Disk Usage. Even opening a program will cause various spikes in the charts.
Interesting topic. Got a few things I'd like to add.

The Good

To start off with just simply creating some amazing characters and seeing others enjoy my creation. It's nice when a roleplaying partner is willing to team up with your character because they want to explore them more. That little bit is just enough to make you feel like you are a part of the roleplay rather than an NPC. One of my favourite scenes was when another player knocked me off a building because of a parachute incident. It was fun and ended amusingly.

Following on from that I've had a few RPs where similar members have joined and it's nice to set out on a new journey with such members. You know their style and how they work so teaming up is quite the enjoyable task.

The Bad

Here is where the problems start. Most of the RPs I have entered have died. A few are due to GMs leaving and some are due to the drop off in players which have changed the dynamic of the RP. It just gets frustrating when you spent this effort and it all falls to shit. I know it's the nature of roleplaying but there needs to be at least one RP I join that doesn't end for silly reasons.

The next point I'll make is the way some people operate a roleplay. Some of the roleplays have had less than desirable players or GMs. One roleplay I left was due to the players speed posting and what started off as a cool concept, died, because people didn't have the restraint to not manage their post speed (multiple times per day). I don't know of many people that leave for a day due to to life and when they come back there's 2 pages to read up already.

This also comes down to the GM and their ability on when to manage the members or the story. So often I'll see a GM that doesn't know what they are doing, or runs the RP like a player. Starting a story with 1 character perspective doesn't always lay the scene for the others to enter, unnecessary time skips don't give people the opportunity to complete their interactions, and holding back the mystery can often leave people confused and uncertain with what to do. I'm not saying every secret in a roleplay should be explored and explained, but not being clear about it can risk having a player undermine that secret if they do something unexpected... which they will.

The Ugly

People...
Some of the worse things I have seen are just the people in a roleplay who have single handily ruined a roleplay. I've seen GMs swear at other members, I've seen people powerplay, metagame, godmod their characters and get all snarky when they are told that what they did was wrong, I have even seen someone in an OOC chat ask invasive sexual questions to a minor.

If I could have a roleplay that I enter where it lasts a while with no, or at most, a few minor problems... fine... but there always seems to be one arrogant asshole who has the sole desire of single handily ruin a roleplay.

@Tulpa Who even are you?

Yep, nothing against me. No sir...

I'm still waiting to learn what I've ever done to you personally.

*Looks at two people liking a comment that does nothing but personally insult me, without any prompt what so ever.*

Like you DO realize you prove my point don't ya? <.<

In what way is this not circle jerking bandwagon crap?

So straight away you assume it was you, even when no mention is made, and yet you had to continue.

It almost seems like you want others to be your enemies. You keep on going even when you initially said you would stop, you view yourself as correct and have not once said "I'm sorry for adding to the continuation of these arguments", you viewed the people who laughed (which are probably more laughing at the comment about people being butthurt, not you in particular) and came to the conclusion that we are jerking you off.

You say you're mature and yet you are now choosing another member, @Tulpa, to start an argument with. I'm actually thinking you're the one who can't let go of the comment since @Dynamo Frokane has already laughed along with it.

I'm sorry to say, you may be 23, but you take things on the internet way too personally.
Occasionally when I look at the time and realise it's late at night. However I am willing to sit on it til the next day if I don't believe I can end it quickly. It just depends on what's happening, how much is written and if others are waiting for me.

So for the most part, no, but I have done it before.

Application Error.

Mahz, may I suggest some sort of big red panic button on those error splash screens? You know, something for us to press frantically in an attempt to resolve the situation, yet doesn't actually do anything but to distract us from our own terror and anxiety while you fix the problem behind the scenes?
