as a patreon reward I will read your least favorite person's handmade custom tabletop RPG homebrew and ask them why they didn't just run it in 5e instead

I started RP before double digit age but you couldn't have gotten an admission I was under 18 under threat of death. Kids just casually admiting it online now is wild.

Kalina Kovalic

Well, if the princess wasn't worth anything, there wasn't any point to her idea, then. Kalina nodded at Justice explaining the joke, though the idea of a suicide bomber didn't sound quite so far-fetched to her. She opened her mouth to respond before an explosion from above cut her off.

Her mind went towards the obvious, her hand already moving to draw the pistol holstered on her hip. Ambush. It clearly hadn't been from behind, considering she'd been keeping a constant eye on the rear view mirrors. So that only left above. Kalina leaned slightly out the window, aiming her handgun upward only to see...Silje just lounging up top. It had only been her then.

Kalina flattened her stare slightly, giving her friend what passed for an exasperated look from her.

"Do you mind? I'm driving." Was all she said before sitting back down and putting her gun away. With a shake of her head, she continued gunning the engine down the High Road, going straight over another pothole.

___

They finally arrived at the spot some of the others had planned where Barghest Squad would be staying the night. Kalina maneuvered the truck into the lot and parked, dismounting with the rest.

"Beer me." She held a hand out, waiting for someone to toss her a lager from the cooler in the back. A glance around the town, such as it was. Unimpressive, and on its last legs. Reminded her of some of the bombed-out shitholes the Marauders had passed through when she was a child.

"I hope so." Kalina said in response to Gerard. "I thought you helped plan our itinerary. Or was it all Justice and Lance?" Admittedly, she'd barely paid any attention to what plans they'd actually made, short of remembering where to drive towards. But this trip wasn't for Kalina. At least, not in her eyes.

She pulled her phone out, briefly checking her mail. Annnnd...nothing. Command still hadn't responded to her request to be deployed with her father and the rest of the Marauders after this approved leave. A slight frown crossed her face. How irritating.
Shinozaki Yurie

They started to move through the forest, and Yurie didn't protest when one of the white kids, Isaac, just took the lead. Better him than her. She didn't have an interest in what was basically an exercise in herding cats, especially not certain people among them. Maybe that perpetual scowl on his face would keep the annoying ones in line...

...And maybe she could get home before the university failed her for not showing up to class. Yeah, right. At this rate, both those hopes were a fucking wash. Better to just deal with it for now. Not like bitching about it would do anything.

So she followed along with the group, only really paying attention again when their apparent leader said something sounded like he might know what he was talking about in the only field that mattered. Huh. Didn't he say something about that before? Right.

Yurie strode up next to Isaac, her hands up behind her head as she walked.

"Said you worked for a software company, right? Lemme guess, code monkey? Don't have much experience on that side of the fence."

She wasn't hoping for much, but any excuse to talk shop was better than none.
Iraleth Kyrios

She didn't even feel an impact. And judging from his stance, Chunji knew how to throw a punch. Impressive. Moreover, Iraleth barely felt the essence drain compared to her usual barriers. Her partner asked for her to reciprocate, and Iraleth did, slamming her own fist straight towards Chunji's face. Full force, nothing held back. She felt the impact, and knew the barrier worked. It really was that simple, then.

The professor deigned to answer Chunji's question about fueling barriers with one's Prime Essence. In short: don't. Iraleth still dutifully recorded the full effects in her notes just in case this was material they would be questioned on later. Their instructor wasn't incorrect: only do so if she was certain she would die without the extra boost. Iraleth understood that, of course. She'd be of no use to anyone with her Ethos crippled. But given her nature, that or death was more likely than not.

Professor Alto finished off with mentioning a physical exercise, and Iraleth tilted her head in curiosity. The school's last idea of one was an incomprehensible cavalcade of errors, but perhaps one from a reasonable-looking instructor would be less...inane. Nonetheless, Iraleth nodded towards Chunji and continued to work on her Personal Barrier in the time they had left.

@AThousandCurses
Yeah sorry, I'll get something up tonight, been kinda distracted
Salvator Rasch

The gunship started to fall, the remaining security troops were starting to be overrun, and Salvator almost relaxed a tad. Finally, something was going right on this op-

"Salvator, Ilshar, we've been hit!"

Son of a bitch. Salvator resisted the urge to curse sulfurously, instead acknowledging the first cry with a click of his comlink. Judging by Alice's next words, Kleo was hit badly enough that stims weren't helping. Of course this had to happen the second he started getting optimistic about the mission.

"Acknowledged." He replied over comms, keeping his voice even. "Do what you have to, we'll pick up the slack for now." Fortunately, this didn't change his current tactical assessment of the situation. The locals were finally taking the lead now that they were definitively winning. Big surprise. If they wanted to finally use their ammo, Salvator wasn't going to complain. Instead, he pinged the squad comms, issuing further orders.

"Right, Echo, Ilshar, you heard the lady. Keep pushing, but don't take any more risks or waste more ammo than you have to. Let the rebels do the bulk of the work for now, we still have an objective to push toward after this." That said, the voidhanger swapped from his heavy shotgun back to his carbine and joined the advance, firing only when he could get a clean headshot on the security troopers.

Jaromir Zhu

"We'll do as we're ordered." Jaromir responded to Alvin on comms, busying himself with alternating between checking the radar and his actual line of sight as they moved forward again. "I ain't opposed to blasting pirates." He finished, wondering what Alvin was working at here. Why pick him out in the first place? Judging by kill count, he was up, but at the very least, Jaromir hadn't figured Alvin for a kiss-ass. After all, if he really was a Davion bastard, the guy would've gotten himself into a better position if he had been.

The lances moved forward towards the base, and Jaromir kept his finger on the trigger as several mechbays came into view. One of the doors opened, and...

"Oh, shit." Jaromir murmured under his breath upon seeing the very recognizable profile of a HBK-4G. An AC/20 attached to ten tons of armor. Hell, probably more than ten, considering the extra bits seemingly welded onto the fucking thing. And considering it just nearly blew through the leg of their most heavily-armored mech, they were off to a poor start already. Of course, that wasn't even mentioning the VTOLs and infantry joining in on the shitfest.

"Firing all weapons, danger close!" Jaromir stayed where his Trebuchet was planted in the rear of the lance's formation, not wanting to build up even more heat than he had to while alpha striking. Fortunate that the Hunchback was close enough that every single one of his guns' range profiles could hit it effectively. Unfortunate that he was still in the range of its godforsaken autocannon.

In his desperation to be rid of the fucking thing, Jaromir didn't spend too much time lining up his shots. The PPC hit one leg, the AC/5 the other, and the SRM2 managed to tag the Hunchback in its Left Torso. Fuka's autocannon shot also impacted a leg, and the scheming salvage goblin within him took note of the possibility before them.

"We got some good hits in on the legs, keep that up!"

He wouldn't want to pilot the Hunchback, despite its armor. Getting within optimal AC/20 range meant getting closer than Jaromir would like, but just having a Hunchback within their lances would be a godsend for how long they could last in a firefight.
Renar Hagen

Witches and their games. How troublesome. First it had been a dream, and now it wasn't. To say nothing of the fact that Edwin evidently remembered him from that incident as well. Would that the Knight-Witch be bothered to have a shred of consistency in these dealings.

"As you say." He nodded reluctantly to Parvan's explanation, before joining Gretchen at the table. "Deal me in as well. If we're to endure all this before we actually start training, then there isn't much else to it. What are we playing? Five card draw?"

Of course, it didn't hurt that Renar rather enjoyed games of chance. If only because the "chance" in question was never truly random. The sole objective in these sorts of diversions was to cheat as well as possible without being caught, and that served his interests just fine.

"Care to join us, Gerard? Or do you not care to earn your food on this occasion?" He chortled, giving his friend a brief jibe. The better which to motivate him, of course.

Iraleth Kyrios

Iraleth paid steady attention to the ongoing lecture, jotting down notes at a reasonable pace. None of it was flying over her head without further study just yet, but it was best to record everything she could, still. This Personal Barrier would certainly prove to be useful in the future, though she had no desire to abandon her armor completely for it. After all, why give up a defensive layer that was entirely passive to maintain on her end? Wearing a few dozen pounds of plate on a daily basis was nothing to her after years of training, anyway.

The class began to separate for practical application following the theoretical explanation, and Iraleth found herself being approached by...Chunji. That was his name, right? He offered to partner up with her, and she rose to her feet.

"Of course." Iraleth gave a firm nod. "I'll start, then." As she'd said before, it shouldn't be too different from the divine shields she was already able to conjure. Just with a more stringent field of application.

She gathered emotional essence together through the divine method: an entreaty to Astra for protection. Let her flesh be shielded from harm, so as to continue her work. Faith, zeal, determination, and outright stubbornness coalesced into emotional essence, coating Iraleth in its protective veil.

"Right," The paladin exhaled, examining herself briefly. It seemed as though the spell had worked, though its efficacy remained to be seen. "Now to test it. I'm still wearing armor over the barrier, so..." She gave Chunji a stoic stare. "Punch me in the face."

@AThousandCurses
Shinozaki Yurie

At this point, Yurie couldn't tell who was going to give her more of a headache, Cameron Mason or this Sasha chick that decided she was being a little mean to the fucking celebrity. At least it seemed little miss Slav realized how much of a pain in the ass the little pink douche was going to be after a moment, though. Cameron attempted to hug Yurie, and she refuted every single Fameron's dream by firmly keeping him an arm's length away.

"Uh, no." She tutted, stepping back and folding her arms. "None of that. And really? You're just gonna help someone because they asked you out of nowhere? I'm all for finding a way home and not staying a minute longer than we have to."

As the others started to put their assorted goggles and glasses on, Yurie did the same, pleasantly surprised to find that it seemed to actually be mildly useful. A built-in HUD with a compass was actually pretty sick. Now if only there was a GPS of some sort. She gave the girl who refused to give her name a blatant stare. Kari, huh? Whatever stupid reason she had for not giving her name out, it was pointless now.

"Anyways, should probably find a way out of this forest first. Pick a direction and walk, maybe? And no splitting up, rather not turn this into a bad horror movie."
