I started RP before double digit age but you couldn't have gotten an admission I was under 18 under threat of death. Kids just casually admiting it online now is wild.

Renar Hagen

A change in demeanor. In tactics. What Renar was doing was working, then. He was pressing a knight of the Wild Hunt. Was its weak point the eyes? Every attempt he'd made at blinding had triggered a reaction, and this was the first time the flaming wretch had bothered to stand and engage rather than fall back on traps and tricks.

The problem was he still didn't know what arcane rules this trapper was operating off of. Did this hunter's power only work based on line of sight? Impossible to tell directly, considering the helmet, but there were other ways to confirm the matter. The wider battle was still considered, of course.

The briefest glance he could spare of the field indicated that Tyaethe was still more or less fully in control of her duel. If she was ending it with Rozenalt, he had to take a chance to claim victory of his own. At the start of this battle, Renar would have been content with simply fending the flaming trapper off. That was before he'd lost his favorite trophy to the godsdamned reprobate.

Renar maintained the blade lock, giving a devil's grin from beneath the visor of his helmet as he memorized the exact position the Wild Hunter was placed in. His free hand revealed another article from his bag of tricks, one that fell to the ground and exploded into a cloud of white smoke. With the smoke bomb in play to further disorient the flaming fae, Renar broke the lock and drew his sword back before taking it in both hands and thrusting forward, aiming from where he knew the neck had been but a moment prior. Time to finish this.

A quick, curt nod in Galahad's direction before she looked to Eliane and Rudolf.

"If you can find each of them, then go. Galahad and I will make for the Cathedral. Without a doubt, at least one of the Grovemasters will be there."

She looked back to Galahad.

"In the worst case situation, you will be faster to extract Chisato. I will cover your escape if needed." A wry, sardonic smirk. "I would be the louder distraction, either way."

The strike was perfect. The tip of Chisato’s katana plunged into Isolde’s throat with brutal efficiency, the smoke bomb detonating at virtually the same time the light left Isolde’s eyes.

Within the great hall, the iconoclast templars stared in mute shock for a moment, the speed of the assassination combined with the thick smoke taking them all off guard.

”ASSASSIN!” The first cry came out, even as the knight who uttered it choked on smoke.

”The Grovemaster has fallen!”
”Who-how-”
”That was an outlander! They must be in league with Zacharias!”

”Depose Zacharias! Avenge Isolde! Kill Zacharias!”
”KILL ZACHARIAS! KILL ZACHARIAS!"

Minutes later, those paladins loyal to Isolde could be seen marching out of Brightlam Cathedral in lockstep, those not of Isolde’s iconoclasm staring after them in shock, wondering what in the gods’ name was happening. By the time Izayoi and Galahad were in sight, they could hear the last of Isolde's knights screaming oaths to avenge their leader as they marched for what was presumably Zacharias's location.

"I have little choice at this point, don't I?" Zacharias murmured bitterly, his glare not abating. "I believe most of the men stationed around this grove are loyal. Most. Someone in my personal staff has been leaking information to Isolde and her faction, but I've not yet been able to pin them down."

The old man looked out the window, the guards outside showing no sign of alert.

"They aren't on guard because I've instructed them to stand down. My own source among Isolde's staff informs me she intends to make a decisive move tonight. There are contingencies in place around this home, but against the fifty or so knights she has on her side?" Zacharias shook his head. "At best, I would force a pyrrhic victory out of her. If you have an idea to extricate us from this situation, I would hear it. Or even to simply alert your companions. The grove's defenses are under my control. Should they assist, I can ensure they are not harmed. I swear it upon our mutual relationship with Cid."

By all accounts, it should have worked. It would have worked, had steel not flashed in Alambert's hands at the last moment, a dagger meeting Miina's ice knife just before it made contact.

"Well, well." Alambert's voice shifted between words, his tone becoming...higher-pitched? "How sloppy of me!" He(?) shoved Miina out of the air and to the ground, his other hand throwing his cloak off to reveal a completely different face, gender, and race, being a blonde Sollan woman in dark Skaelan attire, grinning down smugly at the red mage. "Aren't you the one of the little wretches on the all-points bulletin? And to think I wasn't even trying to catch you!"

At her side, the two Dranan guards started in shock, drawing blades at the face who dared to replace their Grovemaster, only for gunshots to ring out from the remainder of the mercenaries in the warehouse. The man in the lead lowered his gunblade, looking at the apparent spy without amusement.

"Your cover is blown, Loki. Once Alambert returns without his guards, there'll be investigations. We need to make our move, now. Hopefully your idiot patsy plays her part."

"Now, now, Lanius. You're giving everything away to our guest here! Be a good dog of Valheim and heel." The woman, Loki, giggled, her knife still raised. "Shall we silence her now, or keep her around for questioning? Doubtful that this waif knows anything of value, but we might be able to lure the others in. I need that SEED with them alive to get at Lambert, after all~"

@Raineh Daze

It took some time to follow Alambert's trail, but once Miina got ahold of it, following it the rest of the way wasn't difficult. It seemed the guards were by and large telling the truth when they'd mentioned the Grovemaster wandering about with barely any guard, only two of them following the hooded, robed Faye into a warehouse within the north of Brightlam.

The storehouse had numerous methods of entry, with small windowed alcoves in the roof, and a few doors. Whatever route Miina took, whenever she inevitably made it in, she would be greeted by the sight of one of her nation's leaders conversing with a pair of men in rich merchant's clothing, along with an entourage of apparent mercenaries in cheap armor, rushing about to and fro.

Getting closer, Alambert's next words could just barely be heard:

"...Isolde is performing her role, yes. All is ready for the attack. So long as we eliminate Zacharias and the more competent of the apprentices, this nation is ours for the taking."

Eventually, Chisato found her way to a vantage point near Brightlam Cathedral. From her position, she could spy activity both around the building and within beginning to pick up, with men and women in Cathedral knight armor beginning to muster.

Upon making her way closer, likely breaching the upper floors of the Cathedral, the shinobi would begin to hear movement convering upon a central location. Following it would have her overlook the Cathedral's grand hall, where fully four dozen church paladins stood in parade formation as Grovemaster Isolde took the pew.

"Tonight, we prove our creed, our cause, true!" She called out, surety in her tone as she looked out at her men with a steady gaze. "Those of the old order, the hidebound old men and ignorant youths alike, will be made to see the error of their ways! Before dawn, Zacharias will be stripped of his rank, and made to recant any and all divinity of the Eidolons! The Mother and the gods need no such archaic spirits to enact their will, only we of man! May this mark a new dawn for our faith, our nation! May this mark the end of the deceit of Bahamut and his ilk!"

Contrary to his rank, Grovemaster Zacharias lived within a simple cottage on the outskirts of Brightlam. His only concession to luxury was the relative solitude and guard his home was placed under, located within an idyllic forest clearing and surrounded by several guard posts within the trees. Moreover, the crystal Cid gave Esben shone with a renewed radiance until it was fully covered: this entire grove was holy ground.

In contrast to the rest of the city, though, Zacharias's personal guard seemed to be on no heightened alert at all, completely disregarding the edicts of Grovemaster Isolde. If Zacharias believed the Kirins were a threat, the state of his patrols didn't reflect it at all. Only this allowed Esben to sneak through the twenty elite guards surrounding the grove, and approach the cottage within.

Inside was as humble as outside, with small handcarved knickknacks and amateur oil paintings lining the walls and shelves. Combing through the entire hovel, top to bottom, Zacharias was nowhere to be found. Even the bedroom was empty. It was only when Esben stood before the bed that the door behind him shut, the aforementioned Grovemaster stepping forward as his invisibility spell faded.

"Know that the only reason you yet live is because I know you are not that woman's pawn." Zacharias glared at Esben with obvious dislike, a white-knuckled grip on his staff. "No blade is in your hands. You did not come to kill me. Yet. Talk, then. I fear I'll not be rid of you without the use of violence until you exhaust your frivolous words."

"We have a problem." Izayoi strode into the hideout, her usual kimono replaced with worn and ragged beggar's clothing, dirt and soot smudged across her face and hands. Her cloak shifted aside to reveal two things in her hands: a bloodstained wakizashi and a Valheimr officer's ranking insignia.

"I'd begun to make inquiries with the beggars, but one of them recognized me almost immediately. He said nothing, but bade to follow. It was a trap. I sprung it." She hurled the insignia onto the floor: a lieutenant's bar. "Valheim's shadows have already breached the city. When questioned, he insinuated that the Grovemasters were at risk before he expired."

A significant look towards Galahad and Eliane alike.

"Our timetable has accelerated. Should we tarry, we risk a repeat of Balmung Castle." She made her way over towards the pile of gear, starting to change back into her usual arms and armor without care for modesty.
Iraleth Kyrios

Iraleth could spare barely a moment to see how Professor Alto was faring, but that one moment was all she needed to know: lost the advantage, tricked in some way, and now grievously wounded. She grit her teeth as she drew her free hand back, slamming her fist into a skeletal limb that was trying to batter her.

"Damn it!" She yelled in frustration, still no closer to putting this undead tower down while another's Essence was empowering it without access to her own. Or rather, it was doable. There just wasn't enough time. Iraleth had been making no small amount of headway in trying to batter and smash the entire damned thing to dust, but not at any rate that would get this thing off of her long enough to assist the others. Her choice of weaponry wasn't helping, either. At this rate, her plated fists were doing a better job than her bastard sword. If only she'd brought a mace of some sorts. Or even a flail...

Regardless, she'd fight with what she had. Or she would, if a gunshot hadn't rang out across the battlefield. Iraleth's head shot up, following the point of impact. The moments before the carriage fell upon the skeletal tower passed in almost slow motion, her mind going a mile a minute. This would, at least, take care of one problem. And if the trajectory was right, at least slow the other one down. The only issue was friendly fire. Professor Alto would be fine, most likely. Chunji was too close to the bandits for Iraleth to risk shielding him and protecting them with the boy. That, and he was too far away. That just left Rio.

"Get down, NOW!" Iraleth threw her sword to the side as she dashed towards Rio, tackling her classmate so that her armored form was shielding him, head tucked in so that her armor was a more likely point of impact. A quick prayer started to come out of her mouth as the tower fell atop them, invoking Astra's grace so that hopefully this tactic would smite their enemies.

Telling, that she prayed for the death of their foes first before the safety of her own life or anyone else's.
CMDR SAGAN "VULTURE" KODOS

<< Care's a strong word, Rabbit! >> Sagan called back over comms as he continued cleaning up enemy infantry with his point defense lasers. << Filling out next-of-kin notifications's a bitch, is all! >> An HPK burst on a particularly dug-in position silenced them, and then he was left with a moment to catch his breath and regain his bearings.

Right, battlefield analysis. Rabbit at least wasn't getting herself killed now, though it meant Sagan would have to pick up the slack in the squad's aerial overwatch until her flight systems were back online. Rhino was fine, alerting him to Commie's situation, Hex was being engaged upon, and Commie...was being Commie.

A sigh. Pension, pension, pension. One day. Half of it would be going to alimony, but it was still better than nothing.

<< Right, Rook, you heard the lady: give Hex some backup, on the double. Moving to assist Commie. Commie, quit bitching before you start, we ain't got the time for a duel. >>

The Watchdog blazed towards the aerial duel, full afterburners blasting. The two combatants were too close in melee for him to line up a shot of any sort, so he'd have to close in to saber range himself. While he did, though...

Even as the Shrike moved to slam a foot into the enemy MAS's chassis, Sagan reached the extreme edge of lock-on radius, getting tone on the duelist in order to at least try to throw the pilot off balance.
Post coming up end of tomorrow, hopefully. Playing catchup on all my shit rn
ZEPHYR

Not for the first time today, or this week, or even this month, Sheena wanted to strangle whichever member of Carmine's brain trust decided she ought to be the best choice for their new Hero position. Still, she was nothing if not a company woman. So she went along with this complete farce.

Orders came down from up top, of course. Find a way to get above 200,000 fame as soon as possible, using whatever means available. Freedom to achieve the objective was good. It was rare, but good. A shame she couldn't say the same about the actual objective. Evidently, just beating the hell out of villains on camera wasn't doing the job quickly enough. She'd have to take more proactive measures, which was why they'd even put her at this Expo.

She'd done her research on the competition, too. Both established heroes with sizable fanbases, several times hers'. Still, that offered ZEPHYR an opportunity to piggyback on those fanbases if she made enough of a name for herself here. Time to get to work, then.

ZEPHYR had only been signing autographs so far at the Carmine Corp presentation, but as the alloted time for signings ended, she rose from where she'd been sitting and signing as Ladyice started on her spiel.

Ah, a volunteer. It wasn't quite personal, just business-
Alright, that was a lie. She didn't like the skank bit. If it was a bit. Still, it was motivation for her.

"So, how come the rewards get worse as they get more exclusive?" ZEPHYR called out towards Ladyice as she flew over to Blackriver's setup, her arms folded mockingly. "Listen, sister, you're not worth more than a free ride to college. Even if you give out a free ride." The cyborg hero flipped upside down midair, shooting a casual salute towards the audience below.

"Seriously, do you have a punchline that isn't just sex?"

What was she doing? Well, controversy sold. Simple as that. Setting up a rivalry above her weight class in fame ought to do something for her numbers, at least.
