I'll be going on a two week vacation starting tomorrow and don't know how often I'll have Internet access. Thank you for your patience. I'll try to be more regular when I get back.
Quote from Ryota: -Ryota took a look at all the students attending this 'elite school' before turning back to the girl who was now pointing finger guns at him"Nah, even someone like me isn't this close to the bottom of the barrel." He gave the girl an apathetic look as he decided to put an end to this conversation, hopefully this would be enough to keep her away.
@ShwiggityShwah not a big issue, (since Hiroki isn't necessarily reacting to nor addressing Mari specifically) but the part about Jigokuraku being a bad school and the bottom of the barrel was internal monologue.
Sharmukh pushes past his retainers and looks with confusion at Mort. Realizing that continued negotiation would likely prove unproductive, Sharmukh states, "I have taken your request into consideration, and if it is within my power, I will make it happen, given certain conditions. I will draft a message to Lathesa's Roost. If you would like to come back inside, I can hand it to you, or I can have it sent over to your escort before you set out."
Several retainers protest Sharmukh's decision, but he silences them with a wave of his hand. "At this point, any infrastructure that can be established in Lathesa's Roost is welcome. Besides, there will be conditions. The letter I will write will be addressed to whatever leadership remains in the Capitol for them to execute at their discretion."
βHey, were you in the same exam as that guy? Is he always like that, or does he just have first day nerves or something?β
Mari turned to address Akeno's question, "Yes, he was like that at our exam. But I saw Sakimoto-san and Yomodachi-san," Mari motions to Azukina who was beckoning the group into the main hall, "standing over the downed body of one of the faux-villains, the dinosaur-looking one." Mari left it at that. Sure, she didn't approve of Hiroki's behavior, but in a way, his cockiness was backed up by his strength, and Mari felt that strength deserved recognition.
"Er... m-my name? S-Suguro U-Umi. N-Nice to meet y-you."
"A pleasure, Suguro-san," Mari replied to Umi's self-introduction. But as the situation outside escalated, Umi's discomfort became visible, which caught Mari's eye. Was Umi averse to the very sight of conflict? How did she expect to become a hero like this? A flash of annoyance crossed Mari's face, but was quickly suppressed. Mari softly held out her hands and put them on Umi's shoulders. No spark. "L-look, just turn around, ignore it, and walk inside. Boys will be...boys..." Though Mari said it, she hated that gender was considered enough of an excuse for idiotic behavior. "Just follow the teacher, Tanifuji-sensei, was it?" Mari attempted to turn Umi around and lead her into the building.
Looking back, Mari noticed that the appearance of Guodo-sensei seemed to defuse the escalating situation outside. Mari felt honored that he remembered her from the exam, but seeing him like this jogged her memory, allowing her to finally recognize him. At home, her dad had watched a lot of television, and she remembered seeing him on all the time, whether it was toothpaste commercials, or as likable protagonists. She wondered how she hadn't recognized him before, but she supposed she had to chalk it up to exam nerves. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you as a teacher and not as a villain, Guodo-sensei," Mari said, bowing, "I apologize for the bus. Is there...any need for monetary compensation?"
"All these students, and none of them impress me. Guess I'm just gonna be the stand-out. I thought I'd at least have to try. How disappointing."
Following the teachers into the assembly hall, Mari overheard Souta's jab at Hiroki, but the statement was generalized to be demeaning to every single student present. She clenched her fists and glared at him but held her tongue. This was Jigokuraku, the bottom of the barrel. For true hero-aspirants, being here was shameful in and of itself. How did so many students' egos manage to survive the application process? How could they still remain so arrogant knowing that only the worst school would accept them? Was it sour grapes, or a bloated sense of entitlement? For Mari, this school was her only choice. It didn't matter. She was here to survive. If she got three meals a day and a roof over her head, she didn't care how bad the school was. Besides, Mari had no interest in rankings since her ideals didn't even properly align with that of hero society. She was here to unlock her potential and become her own type of hero, not the kind that chases after headlines, but one who helps the overlooked and forgotten.
Mari replies to Akeno, letting her know Hiroki's not all talk. Then she attempts to lead Umi away from the conflict, silently judging Umi. She introduces herself to Guodo-sensei, and apologizes about totalling the bus. Finally, she overhears Souta and quietly bristles at the seeming lack of humility among several of her peers. Mari continues into the building.
βI'm sure it's gotta do with inner strength. Living, feeling, experiencing, forming bonds..all of these build up the heart, and if yours is big enough, it'll shine on those around you ...like a warm fireplace.β
Din listened to the Master of Master's explanation with befuddlement, but she didn't judge the incomprehensibility of it; besides, as a fellow magic user, she knew that magic was just like that sometimes, difficult to explain. The gist that she got was she needed to be a bit stronger before she could do what she saw Kirby do.
βNO WAY IβM DOING SOMETHING THAT SILLY LOOKINGβ
Din gave Bowser a coquettish wink to let him know she was just teasing. Still, she would have liked to see Bowser attempt summoning the Friendship Heart, if only for the spectacle. However, their little exchange was interrupted when Courier 6 arrived and began berating Geno for leaving them all behind. On the one hand, she agreed with the desert man, since Geno's absence had made her worry quite a bit as well, on the other hand, anger was not a good way to express that worry. But Din had to draw the line when 6 insulted Geno's downed friend. After all, they were all displaced individuals from their various worlds, with no friends in sight, so finally being able to see a friend must have meant a lot to Geno (even though Geno and Bowser already knew each other, it didn't seem as if they were on the best terms). But before Din could say anything, a massive house crashed into the moat, followed by a giant, winged incarnation of...Bowser? Like the others, Din gaped in awe at the terrible beast that hovered over them, but the silence was broken by 6:
βOH MIGHTY KING!β he called out, clearly high and drunk as balls, yet his coordination didnβt suffer a bit. βFOR TRIBUTE I HAVE BROUGHT YOU AN ARMY!β He swept his arms around, gesturing to all of their allies. βI HAVE BROUGHT YOU WEAPONS!β He pulled out his .44 magnum, presenting it high for all to see. βAND I HAVE BROUGHT YOU A DEMONSTRATION!β
The Courier turned to the nearby unconscious Mario, then snapped his fingers together to create a friendship heart. The heart slowly drifted down until it latched onto the portly plumber, then seeped into his body.
Din's previous anger at Courier 6 subsided as she saw him manifest a Friendship Heart to revive Geno's friend, proving that he really did care, and his earlier chiding was just part of his tough-guy approach. She also admired the ruse he was attempting to set up, and decided to help him. "Oh great and terrible awfulness!" Din addressed Megadragonbowser using terms she had heard the real Bowser refer to himself as, assuming they had the same campy tastes, "We are here but as your humble servants. Please allow me to entertain you with a dance." Din began performing an exotic Gerudo dance, flitting from one end of the party to the other, strengthening and invigorating her allies for the eventual surprise attack, and healing whatever Blazermate and Bowser's Rabbid failed to address. She continued to dance, weaving among her allies, making sure everyone had received her magical aura.
Thank you for your interest, but this is an experimental RP to let some close friends of mine 'get their feet' wet, as it were, with RPing, so I am trying to maintain as sterile an environment as possible without the inclusion of outside factors. I will consider allowing others to join when they have become more comfortable with RPing.
