It was bad enough. It was bad enough having to listen to all of this. I'd already used my capabilities as a shinobi to retreat to the most distant seat I could in order to try and evade this nonsense, but it has kept reaching out to me and refusing to allow my escape.

It was bad enough to start with.

But now it has become even worse. Matters of a noble marriage? It's not as if I am unfamiliar with such things, given my history in regards to the assassination of those who called themselves nobility. But is now the time for this? Is now really the time?

Perhaps there is a single silver lining to this matter. To this endurance game that I have found myself challenged by.

Shilage-san was nearly entrapped by a siren?

I should not focus on things simply for their humorous value. And indeed, part of me is pleased that it failed. Regardless of my irritation with the current matters, I do believe Shilage-san is a valuable portion of our team, even if he is a man of Edren. I would not wish to see him come to such an end.

But---

"A siren?" I question, placing aside my own mild embarrassment, "That sounds quite harrowing, does it not?"

Speaking for my own amusmenet and curiosity is entirely unnecessary, but if I am to wring anything from this wretched scenario, perhaps it will be this.

Paladin of the Olive Tree

• Name: Olivier de Vienne
• Class: Saber
• Appearance: Brown hair, blue eyes, and light skin, with gold and white armor. She is about 155cm in height.
• Personality: Every bit the noble knight of legend, Olivier stands for justice and loyalty. She believes in standing against wickedness and evil, and forging a just path through battle and towards victory. Though she is confident in her skills, and possesses considerable bravery, she believes it is important to approach combat intelligently and with a level head. This can lead to her becoming somewhat frustrated with shows of foolishness or recklessness. A Master who does not act with consideration to their actions will most certainly receive a stern talking-to, just as she had done with Roland many times during her life. With that being said, even Olivier's level-headedness could have its limits, and she does enjoy displaying her skills. She truly cannot hide her enjoyment of honorable combat.
  
  Olivier also displays a great deal of pride. She is the sort of person to comment "The shine of this armor suits a paladin, doesn't it?". To her, pride in one's self is not a sin, but merely honoring one's own efforts. As she earned her place as a Paladin of Charlemagne through her training and skill in combat, she believes she has every right to display such pride.
  
  While compliments on her skill, her armor, or her blade will be welcomed, compliments on her appearance will be met with embarrassment. Used to being considered as a knight before all else, Olivier does not know what to do when someone praises her looks or attempts to become closer to her. To her, she is a fighter, and her sister Aude is clearly the one who deserves that kind of appreciation.
  
  Indeed, Olivier cherishes her sister deeply. Despite his eccentricities, Roland was the only man she trusted to treat her sister well, and the thought of Aude being alone after the Battle of Roncevaux Pass weighs upon her mind heavily.
  
  For all she is a resplendent paladin who fights for justice, who scorns wickedness---
  
  An emptiness gnaws at her heart.
  
  That battle never should have happened.
  
  The lives of her friends, of Roland, should never have ended with such misery and pain.
  
  She can never completely shrug off the anger and sorrow deep inside of her heart. The agony that she experienced at the end of her life is forever with her, even if it is buried deeply at times.
  
  Things should have ended differently.
  
  Things should have been better.
  
  If only that Battle had never happened---
  
  These are the wishes held so deeply in Olivier's heart.
  
  Of course, the one she hates above all else in the world is Ganelon. The traitorous knight who condemned the Twelve Paladins to death. In the event she were to meet him as a Servant, she would be unable to hold back her rage. Indeed, even unrelated traitors cause her anger to boil to the surface as they draw forth memories of Ganelon.

  • Reinforcement of Divine Favor: B. As a paladin who fought for righteousness, it appears that some manner of divine favor was granted to Saber. A form of enhancement that cloaks her entire body, and offers numerous beneficial effects, such as assisting her against surprise attacks as well as enhancing her endurance. At the Battle of Roncevaux Pass, the Saracen Warrior Margariz rode out to strike Saber while she was embroiled in battle. But, perhaps by divine intervention, his lance was shattered on her armor and she survived without enduring any damage.
  • Battle Continuation: D. The capacity to survive lethal damage and continue to fight on, even when death seems assured. Even if lethally injured, Saber can endure for a short time and counterattack her opponent. She was ultimately slain by being impaled from behind by Marganice, but she was able to rise and cut his head in half despite the lethal injury. In truth, it was likely the anger Saber normally kept in check that fueled this last blow in defiance of her impeding death.
  • Olive Tree Knight: A. A form of Instinct possessed by Saber. A highly-tuned battle instinct that allows her to correctly predict and interpret the best course of action in an instant, without requiring further thought. In particular, it also assists her in interpreting and working around the actions of her own allies, compensating for their sometimes irrational behavior. Perhaps it could be described as an "Anti-Roland" skill. Saber was the most level-headed and serious of the Twelve Paladins, in contrast to her closest friend's hotheaded and sometimes highly unusual behavior. Even so, there are some situations where even the most level-headed person can no longer contain their emotions.
  • Giant-Breaker: B. A skill that reflects Saber's defeat of the Saracen Giant, Fierabras. Despite being greatly outmatched in size and physical strength, she overcame her opponent through her capacity as a knight and wielder of the sword. A bonus against giant foes and an enhancement to her attack power. Though she defeated Fierabras in single combat, she showed the giant mercy, understanding that he was still capable of repentance. Impressed and grateful, Fierabras abandoned his father's whims and chose to align himself with the paladin who defeated him and her lord instead.

  • Name: Hauteclaire - Shine Brightly, O Sword of Mine
  • Rank: B~A+
  • Type: Anti-Unit, Anti-Army
  • Appearance: The sword wielded by Olivier.
  • Effects: The brilliant holy sword wielded by Saber. It is adorned with a gem in its hilt, and is said to stand as an equal weapon to the sword wielded by her closest friend. Its capacity as a sword is high, but the true nature of this Noble Phantasm lay in the jewel embedded in its hilt. A high capacity mana storage system, this gem enables Hauteclaire to draw in and channel magical energy in the form of an attack. At its base level, this magical energy is drawn from its wielder, producing a powerful anti-unit attack in the form of a slash or thrust that releases a blast of mana. But the more mana is in the air, or expended in battle, the more that Hauteclaire is able to collect. By doing this, it grants Saber the equivalent of a rank of B in Mana Burst as long as she is wielding the sword. Additionally, it absorbs magical energy directed towards her and greatly weakens the effects of spells and curses. While her rank of Magic Resistance would normally be middling for a Saber-class Servant, Hauteclaire's properties elevate it to the rank of A. Once the mana stored within the gem has reached its full capacity, Saber may release it in a destructive wave capable of destroying numerous targets and overcoming powerful defenses, or releasing it as a far more powerful version of its single-target function. A holy sword rumored to be sister to the legendary Durandal, Saber considers it the symbol of her pride as a paladin of Charlemagne and of her legend. While she can be summoned into two alternate classes, Saber is the most ideal class for her in her mind.
• Alignment: Lawful Good
• Changes: Though she was a girl, Olivier had volunteered to to act as a replacement for a 'male heir' to her father. Originally, he had considered her younger sister, Aude, but Olivier had already taken to the ideals of knightly virtue and also desired to shield her dear sister from acts of warfare. Indeed, while Aude possessed a higher capacity for magical energy, Olivier possessed a demeanor more suited for combat.

Rylia Ainsberg, Paladin of Reon

• Name: Rylia Ainsberg
• Age: 18
• Gender: Female
• Race: Human
• Rank: Iron, much to her annoyance
• Appearance: Rylia is a very petite human girl, standing around 137 cm/4'6 in height. She has a small, slight figure, and a fair skintone. She has light blue eyes and pink hair, the latter of which is usually tied up in pigtails using gold ribbons. Her armor, consisting of her breastplate, her gauntlets, vambrances, couters, and rebrances, her greaves, and her sabatons, is silver in coloration and decorated with gold details. Her clothing is primarily red, with white and gold details.
• Personality: An impatient and ill-tempered girl, who nevertheless fully commits herself to the duties and ideals of a paladin of Reon. Rylia is quick to anger, swift to complain, and often all too eager to point out what she perceives as stupidity or otherwise ill-advised behavior. Additionally, she exhibits a wide sarcastic streak, prone to making comments that others may find aggravating when she is irritated or believes someone needs admonishing. She is also rather proud and self-confident, though at the very least this is due to her having performed well during her training to obtain the position of a paladin. She is somewhat frustrated that she has to further prove herself, but at the same time views being an adventurer as an opportunity to assist others who may be endangered. Even if she does think her rank should be higher. Her high degree of pride and self-confidence also means that she does not like to admit when she is wrong about something.
  Despite her temper, Rylia is a strong believer in justice and the destruction of evil for the sake of the innocent. In this way, she can be considered a model paladin who upholds good and chastises wickedness in the name of the Sun Goddess. And, as one who dedicates herself to such ideals, it is only natural to refuse to leave behind those in need. Rylia will not abide with any decision that places innocent people in danger, nor will she leave behind anyone in need. For her, doing such things would be to throw away the very meaning of the title of Paladin.
  While she has a confident and stubborn personality, Rylia is insecure about her height and petite figure, and will sometimes take this insecurity out on those who are more gifted in overall size than herself. At the same time, she will also try to deny this insecurity entirely. She is also fairly easily flustered, despite her pride. Rylia likes sweets and has a considerable soft spot for both dogs and cats(as well as pretty much any other cute animals).
• Brief Backstory: Rylia was born in the village of Merlsberg, near Pelle. While it was not a small village, it was far smaller than Pelle. It exhibited a small chapel for worship of both Reon and Mayon rather than the dual churches of larger settlements. Rylia’s father was the local priest, who had moved to Merlsberg to replace the previous priest who had recently died. His wife, a paladin who had retired due to injury, came with him. Rylia was born in spring, and named after a minor divine spirit in service of the Sun Goddess. Needless to say, one could say that service to the sun goddess was in her blood, and she looked up to heroic tales of paladins and saints as a young girl. Particular favorites were the tale of Saint Atrus, who killed one of the Dark Lord Orodrunn’s four strongest generals, and Saint Salva who purified the poisoned waters after the slaying of the Dragon Avoraaz. She had already initiated the early stages of her training, expectations upon her both from within and without, when disaster struck Merlsberg.
  A necromancer bearing a grudge against the Lord of Merlsberg suddenly attacked during the night, while the town was unprepared. However, through her father’s swift actions and her mother taking up her weapon once more, the undead were repelled and the necromancer was forced to retreat with the arrival of several paladins and a contingent of soldiers from Pelle.
  However, Rylia’s mother’s health deteriorated. The injuries she’d sustained during her time as a paladin had left her health frail, and fighting so intensely throughout the night had weakened her greatly.
  She died only a week later, when Rylia was only seven years old.
  This event, the memory of her mother, the pride in her heritage, caused Rylia to become even more strongly motivated when she recovered from the death of her mother. She was eventually sent to the Saint Salva Religious Academy for Girls in Venne, furthering her training to become a paladin and indeed excelling, just as her mother once had. After all, she had plenty of expectations to live up to. Serving under an experienced paladin, Rylia passed preliminary trials that involved clearing a small tomb of undead, before finally moving into the final phase of her training: Practical experience.
  This meant following many paladins before her and signing on to the Adventurer’s Guild, in order to gain proper experience fighting alongside others in a variety of scenarios.
• Equipment: Rylia carries a handful of pouches with assorted basic supplies and a dagger, as well as a Reonite prayerbook and a Lily Symbol for basic divine casting. Additionally, her armor carries a light blessing that makes it much harder to damage and slightly lighter. But the most noticeable aspect of her equipment is her enormous hammer. A blessed weapon, her hammer is far lighter than it appears which enables her to wield it despite it weighing more than her entire body. Additionally, as is common for the blessed weapons wielded by paladins, it exhibits an empathetic trait that responds to righteous fury. In Rylia’s case, her hammer becomes wreathed in golden solar fire automatically in response to her feelings. She can also trigger this effect manually. These flames burn entities of an evil nature and undead all the more intensely, and can be gathered at the head of the hammer and released on impact to cause a small explosion.
• Skills: Rylia has received considerable training in the duties of a paladin, which include skill in combat. She is most versed in the usage of two-handed weapons, particularly her hammer. Her style of combat is aggressive and unyielding, aimed to break through defenses and shatter barriers in order to reach her targets and crush them. As a paladin, albeit one who must still complete the practical experience portions of her training, she has been educated in how to identify various types of undead and evil spirits and how to combat them. This includes the divine spell Litany of Ending to weaken nearby undead, as well as basic exorcism rites. While Rylia is not exceptionally gifted magically, she possesses enough mana for these as well as self-enhancement spells and light healing. She cannot mend injuries that are too serious, but she can assist in recovery and heal minor slashes, bruises, and bone fractures. Anything more serious she can only mitigate but not fully repair. Her capability with exorcism cannot oust a true demon from a possessed host, but can weaken its hold.
