Welcome to the Guild newcomers and @Anza there's room! I'll get an OOC up within a couple days, thanks so much everyone. Seems I have one vote for casual and one for advanced, with a few not minding either way. Just to let you know even if we end up in advanced, I won't be enforcing super strict post length rules so no worries there.

I'm really glad to get some interested parties so quickly. If you don't have any questions for me, I have some questions for you all, namely: what is your preferred posting section, casual or advanced? I see merits to both sections and would rather go with what people are most comfortable with.

It's been a few months in the making but it's here! Thanks to everyone that helped me workshop the concept, and those that helped with proofreading.

As mentioned above, I'm looking for a group size of about 6-8 people. A couple have expressed interest to me over discord already.

It was a warm night when the Cervid star shower lit up the dark. Bright, heavenly bodies moved swiftly across the sky and signaled the passing of spring into summer for the people of Sedaia. For many, from the highest of noblemen to the most humble of peasants, summer was a pleasant and peaceful season. With the transition from winter well over and the year's crops planted, Sedians from all walks of life used the time to perfect their craft, enjoy themselves, or go traveling. The capital of Haydrin's Seat was a particularly popular destination as the country prepared for it's annual Celebration of Kings.

And you too are about to undertake your own journey...

...but it may not be pleasant or peaceful.

"Windfall" is a story about many stories. A group of travelers, each with their own goal in mind, will come together and discover that they have more in common than they might have thought. This will be a completely character-driven RP - as characters move toward their goals, the world will move with them. This is heavily inspired by the JRPG Octopath Traveler, although it won't take place in the same world. I will be playing your GM and general "world mover," and I will have a hand in how your character's story goes - but so will every other player. More on that later.

The setting is the fictional, fantasy country of Sedaia. It is, again, heavily inspired by Octopath's own setting:

Our characters' journeys will span the length of the country as they chase their personal objectives. When you create a character, be sure to give them a concrete goal to work towards and the drive to see the journey through. You will provide their reason for traveling, while the rest of the players (and myself) decide how your character's story will go without your direct input.

Everyone will have a say in how everyone else's story plays out.

This way, the continuation of your character's story and how it relates to other characters' stories can come as surprise. Don't worry, included in the character sheet will be spots to mark general feel you want your story to follow, what topics you want to avoid, how much danger you'd like your story to involve, etc. No one is going to suddenly be facing something they would hate to have to write out (hopefully).

One thing I'll note is to please keep in mind that we want characters willing to travel with one another, even if they start out as strangers. Mysterious lone wolf types are cool and welcome, so long as they are willing to group up. Drama, arguments, etc. are sure to happen between characters, but eventually I'd like for them to come together as friends.

The most important thing I want to get across is while everyone has individual goals, the plan is for strangers to come together and bond and help each other achieve said goals.

Extra Setting Info:

• More in-depth world info and map will be provided with the OOC
• Humans are the only sentient race
• Magic and monsters will be present in the setting, more on that with the OOC
• Magic will be relatively simple though, think elemental spells for the most part

Extra RP Info:

• I prefer a relaxed OOC feel. At this time there won't be a posting deadline but instead I'll check in with people frequently and see how things are going, work with them if they are stuck, etc. I'd also like for potential players to be patient with their fellow players and just have fun!
• On that note however, I am really looking for people willing to see not only their own character's story through, but the stories of the other players' characters as well. If you end up not feeling the RP that's one thing, but please don't bail once your character's story comes to a close. I want people willing to be invested in the stories of every character in the RP. Thanks.
• I can foresee some violence and mature themes taking place during the course of the RP, but whether it will be 18+ in nature is up to everyone.
• Leaning towards art for face claims, but player majority opinion rules.

• Discord will be required for this RP, as an easy way to discuss character stories with separate channels.

These arts include: Sakura Slash, an evasive slashing technique excellent at drawing blood; Critical Juncture, a parry developed in Yukumo that involves clearing the mind and unleashing a counter attack; and Devouring Demon, a temporary state of mind in which a hunter's attack power increases while their health drains - though health can be restored by successfully landing hits.

The dragon's tail, encased in ice courtesy of Linkle, made for an excellent slide. With his sword acting as a rudder even while carving a line down the beast's scales, Ace Cadet smoothly slipped off the end of her tail and landed easily back on the yellow stone. No worse for wear after that stunt, save a cold backside, the hunter whirled around with his weapon brandished just in time to see Bowser body slam their quarry. The aftermath was brutal, but after everything the dragon had thrown at them it seemed fitting too. She screeched and flailed, but it was clear she was on death's door. The fight was gone from her.

...or not. A glow seeped out from between the cracks in her skin. It took a few moments for the Cadet to realize what he was seeing, and once he did he felt like an idiot. Fighting together with the myriad of characters in their party was so exciting and confusing that the Cadet got stuck in his own head space, and it frequently slipped his mind that the rest of the crew didn't really share his experience or knowledge. A near lifetime of questing with other professional monster hunters meant you only had to watch their backs, not school them on secret techniques dragons liked to use. Everyone was so close to it, it was way too late to warn them to get back, they'd never clear the blast area! Hastily the Cadet shoved a hand into his pouch and dug around for the last remaining lifepowder he had on him, hoping to save anyone from taking too hard of a hit when the energy burst out from the dragon.

Cadet was still as the shockwave passed over him. It was mildly painful, but that was it. "Uh... what?" he wondered aloud, surprised and just the tiniest bit disappointed by the lack of power behind the dragon's final gambit. The silence after the supernova was brief, ended with Tora's peals of laughter. The nopon's cheer was infectious. After the initial confusion, the fact that the monster's ultimate attack was reduced to... well, barely a shove, was pretty funny. The hunter found himself laughing too, and eventually he whooped and cheered as he was wont to do.

"Woohoo! We did it! A real live black dragon - put down!" The young man was merry, and he stabbed his sword through the piece of the dragon's tail - still half frozen - that had broken off and hoisted it over his shoulder. With his other hand he sought out the closest ally, which happened to be Bowser Jr. sitting nearby and refueling. He wrapped the little koopa into a tight one-armed hug and dragged the both of them closer to the rest of the group. Once nearby, he hefted the tail over his head into the air like a macabre popsicle in testament to the party's victory.

"I can't wait to tell the Guildmarm! Everybody was amazing! That was so... so radalos!" Cadet exclaimed, "and, uh, dangerous!"

He counted off the people he could see, making sure not to linger too long on Linkle or Geralt's forms, and was startled to see that there was one missing - ah, wait, the grumbles coming from his side alerted him to the missing person's presence. Oblivious and overly friendly, he still had the prince tucked close.

"Okay, everyone's still with us and in one piece," he glanced at Poppi's makeshift leg, "mostly. Definitely calls for a celebration when we get back! I'm hoping the others are waiting for us back in Lumbridge - I can't really think of anywhere else the palicoes would take them." He admitted the last part a bit sheepishly, but quickly followed it up for those worried about their missing comrades. "I definitely saw them get carted though, so they're safe and sound somewhere."

Cadet let the tail-sicle drop down to his side and he beamed at all of the gathered heroes. "Great job. G-rank quest: cleared!"

Personality Traits

Minako is smart, or at least that's the reputation she's garnered. She studies hard and scores well on tests. Her family is well off, where some students sneer at her over this fact others are drawn towards her. She has no problems getting along with those in the second group. Networking is important, after all. She is cunning, business-minded, and her first thoughts in a new situation are always about how she can use it to benefit her family. Even if something can't benefit her financially, she won't always scoff at it. "Enjoy your youth" are words she takes seriously. Maybe too seriously - sometimes it comes off like she's forcing herself to have fun.

Her father works in pharmaceuticals and holds wealth in high regard. Because of their relationship, Minako shares this opinion. In regards to the Yellow Plague, she is more concerned with how her father's company can make money from it than how to cure it. After all, only "bad" people contract it, so why shouldn't they pay to be cured?

Backstory

Junnosuke Takuechi, an ambitious man and current patriarch of the Takuechi family. He married his high school sweet heart young and went to work as soon as his schooling ended, becoming a salaryman at a local pharmaceutical company. Hard work and dedication paid off when the company was bought out by a larger one, but his promotion earned him a one way ticket to a new branch of the company in the United States. It was a stressful move for his young daughter and his wife, then pregnant with their second child.

At the time, moving to a whole new country was the scariest thing five year old Minako could imagine. By the time she was a teenager, she learned there were things far scarier. English was easy enough to pick up, and making friends wasn't difficult. Her mother and father working long hours to keep their household afloat yet leaving it empty was hard. The tense relationship between her mother and father as the woman failed to give him a son was suffocating. Looking after three younger sisters was exhausting.

By the time Junnosuke was promoted again and requested to be relocated back to Japan, sixteen year old Minako had transformed herself. Her sisters were old enough to look after themselves now, for the most part, and their aging lessened the burden on their mother. The only major hole in their family life was their father's frustration at having no son to pass his family name onto. Where once Junnosuke and his sweetheart got along swimmingly, is unwillingness to divorce his wife and lose face was the only loose thread keeping husband and wife together. To play at having a content family, Minako cut her hair and dressed in masculine clothes. At home, and eventually in public when back in Japan, she used boku and ore pronouns when referring to herself. This wasn't a con, no one was ever really fooled into thinking Minako was male once they got to know her, and when asked she'd say of course she was a girl... but it made her father happy. He, too, was never deluded enough to try and pass his daughter off as a son, but the lengths she went to in order to please him touched his heart. Her plan worked, he opened up to her more and eventually, their family started to feel like a family again.

For the Takuechi family, Junnosuke prestigious position in the pharmaceutical company meant they could afford a spacious house and enrollment for their daughter into Kenkōichi International Academy. The American business practices that Junnosuke introduced into the Japanese branch saw a substantial bump in the company's earnings. He often talked about that with his daughter, and about how maybe it wasn't so bad to have a female heir. Maybe she could take after him. As the new school year started, Minako thought that wouldn't be so bad. And, of course, she continued her masculine habits.

Gear

Combat? Of course Minako has no interest in combat or any physical clubs. She carries pens and notebooks around that she is wont to jot ideas into, but as far as weapons she has none.

ENMERKAR, founder of the city of Uruk, a king who sought the subjugation of rival cities through the disruption of their language. Yet, ended up devising a more simple way to communicate.

_______________________________________________ // INFO P E R S O N A L D E T A I L S Full Name - 浜名暁也 (Hamana Kyōya) Age - 20 Gender - Male Occupation - Teacher's Assistant - // PERSONALITY P E R S O N A L I T Y Nice Guy Kyōya is always willing to lend a hand, a shoulder, a smile, a compliment... he's just really kind in general. He is a big believer in "forgive and forget," and it's generally understood that Kyōya is type that wouldn't even hurt a fly. Sometimes he can be a bit of a pushover because of this, in fact only last year he would spent most of his days off running errands that people asked of him, but more recently he has been learning to master the art of politely declining! Trusting Nearly to the point of naivete. It's not that Kyōya is dumb and doesn't believe in the concept of "lying," but rather - for what reason would someone lie? In most cases it doesn't make sense to deceive someone, and so Kyōya just never considers it an option. He'll go along with anything. Playing pranks on him is common among the children of his class. Passionate Get him going on a topic, and Kyōya will be happy to talk your ear off - and wave his arms around while he does so. He's able to rattle off random information about his preferred topics at the drop of a hat, and never tires of them. He takes the utmost delight in teaching and being taught. Of course, this passion extends to more than just learning. He is passionate about people, helping and protecting them. Often times he goes well out of his way to do so, and the on the flip side he can become a worrywart over others. // SKILLSET S K I L L S E T Studious Long hours spent pouring over scrolls and transcribing the elders' stories made Kyōya into a fine scholar. He learns more quickly and retains more of what he's learned, is able to catch the small details in anything even while under pressure, able to focus more intently and for longer periods, and able to stay still and quiet without getting antsy for a while. Niche Encyclopedia If there's one thing you can count on a nerd scholar for, it's in-depth knowledge about their field. Kyōya has a wealth of knowledge about flora and fauna, both the mundane and the supernatural (although he his knowledge on the later still leaves a lot to be desired). Though not a survivalist, Kyōya can identify different plants and animals, and knows their uses or traits... for the most part. He's extremely well read but lacks practical experience. He also holds some knowledge about the village's history, as well as some bits and pieces about the world's history in general, thanks to stories passed down from the village's elders. Sign Potential Like many in Heiseina, Kyōya can use a couple of Signs. With his penchant for study, Kyōya could probably have mastered a couple more even at his age - but he is more interested in stories, and the natural world. He is adept with the Signs he does know, and if he applied himself he could pick up more fairly quickly.

Physical Description In looks, height, and style, Kyōya is exceptionally average. He doesn't have any particularly interesting physical features - he isn't muscular or marred with scars, he has no farmer's tan nor callouses from field work, and his hair is cut in a common masculine style with no fancy accessories in it. The only thing that sets him apart is his glasses, proof of a life of study. Kyōya stands at the same height as most of the other adults in the village, and though he's on the skinnier side now the older women in town tease him about his sweet tooth, telling him he'll start to put on pudge as he ages if he keeps it up. It's already starting to show a little, though it's hard to tell since Kyōya is always wrapped up properly in robes and yukata except on the very most humid of days. Character Conceptualization A young scholar. Kind and helpful, Kyōya puts his love of learning to use instructing the children in town. He plans to take over the schoolhouse once the current head instructor steps down (although that man is a stubborn goat and claims to have another decade in him before he'll retire). Kyōya has a particular interest in history, nature, and the supernatural. Like many people he also loves animals, and keeps an unusually smart feline companion named Kōshaku. Kyōya grew up in the heart of Heiseina, living a simple, modest life as an only child with his mother and father. The Hamano family come from a tradition of bakers; Kyōya being the black sheep with abysmal skill with any kind of cooking no matter how many cookbooks he'd read. When Kyōya got older and decided to dedicate his life to one of study instead, his family had no qualms at all. A bright pupil, Kyōya was welcomed as an assistant in the school house. He gets along with the staff and the students - as well as most everyone in Heiseina. Kyōya is living his dream life; he lives in peace in and safety, he enjoys his job, and he's happy to listen to everything the elders speak about and learn the anything the yokai in the Mumbling Wood feel like teaching. He is content to spend the rest of his life in the village. ...well, he'd be lying if he said he wasn't curious about what was outside of the valley. If nothing else, his scholar's heart longing to know. Kyōya isn't a coward and if there's one think he definitely does not fear it's the unknown, but the thought of actually leaving feels strange to him. __________________________ So character concept: a simple young nerd who trusts in everyone. She enjoys dressing up like that, making an art piece on her own skin. She also wears elaborate and stylish clothing as well, including the frames she wears over her eyes. Regulator Mic: a specialized microphone that, when Chelsea’s voice passes through it, amplifies the range of her voice while minimizing the destructive power. It turns her “sonic cone” into something more like a really loud broadcast, effective for getting people’s attention, and giving out orders or directions.

Appendage Regrowth: Obviously this is only true for her hair. If the tentacles are sliced or severed, they can heal in a few days and completely regrow in a few weeks.

Personality: The perfect picture of a youthful boy: curious, courageous, proud, energetic, sadistic and cruel! He lives according to his whims, with little care to the consequences his actions may have on other people. After all, he is "above" normal people. He can chat with them, get along with them too, but it is more like a person talking to their pet.

Feliciano has all the time in the world, so he is prone to putting things off in order to pursue his current interests and fancies. He enjoys new experiences, as they are rare for him now, and likes sticking his nose into things if he thinks it will be funny. Similarly he enjoys learning, and often experiments with everything from magecraft, to the mundane, to the macabre. The world is literally his oyster.

The only thing he seems to takes seriously is his own survival. He never misses a meal, and if he senses he is in immediate danger he will make himself scarce. This is not a common occurrence as he is more than capable of wiping out any threat, or at least has been so far. He doesn't have much experience with other Dead Apostles, besides his creator whom he loathes on principal, but he probably comes off as a brat who is used to getting what he wants to them.

Bio: Once a prominent heir to his family, Feliciano is now well on his way to becoming a prominent Dead Apostle - as long as he can find that one certain bastard. Feliciano was turned into a vampire at a young age, for no reason except that the blood donor had wanted to try turning a child. Since then, his un-life has been a series of ups and downs. At first, he hated the change. When his mind caught up with his body, he was depressed and disgusted. His family had left him behind, assuming him dead or otherwise never to be found, and began rearing another heir in his place. Somehow even worse, the Dead Apostle that changed Feliciano didn't want anything to do with him either. No orders or desires, no sympathy or hatred. After the amusement faded he left, and Feliciano has been unable to find him since.

After a couple of decades, while Feliciano's grudges grew his attitude shifted. While his "master" was evading him, he was essentially a dog with no leash. He was quicker, stronger, and smarter than many mortals. Plus, he could live forever, technically. There were perks to this.

His mind became warped, or maybe it just evolved into it's natural next level. As a magus, he would continue his studies dutifully. He returned to his family home and took everything they had - tomes, materials, blood, body parts. Still a novice vampire at this point, he accidentally destroyed his own family's magic crest in the carnage. Oh well, he had forever to remake it! Honestly, his siblings all tasted gross anyway, he wouldn't have wanted that tainted crest implanted in himself.

After that Feliciano ruled his mansion and lands alone. He'd spend his days perfecting his craft like a good little magus during the day, and at night he'd go into town to play. Women especially were easy to lure away, always eager to help a little boy get home. Eventually this routine grew dull. He began experimenting - with his victims and himself. He went out more often, to dens of sins and sites of conflict. He has so much time on his hands now, so he had to find someway to kill the boredom, especially when progress on his magecraft came to stand stills. He could often be found watching anything from wars being waged to politicians debating each other. Humanity was his entertainment, and he watched them as a man watches mice in a cage... if sometimes that man would eat some of the mice, that is.

Hundreds of years passed, and Feliciano liked being a vampire.

He would prefer to find his maker and kill him, though. The one loose thread, the one thorn in his paw, in what was otherwise a life of calm study, warm amusement, and spontaneous debauchery. Maybe after that, Feliciano could even rise to the position of Ancestor...?

...oh, what was it that brought the immortal boy to the Sparta? The chance to see some real fun up close. Once the war was over, if the foolish Philosopher Kings ended up with the grail still in their possession, he'll probably kill them all and claim it himself as a new toy to play with for a while.

Similar to another family's jewelcraft, yet different. Feliciano's magecraft involves not just storing energy inside of gemstones, but extracting meaning from those gemstones. For thousands of years, humans applied concepts to the pretty stones and minerals. They decorated the halls of kings and gods alike. They held power over people in more abstract ways than just monetary value. Stones were tied to emotions, psychic phenomenon, and natural elements - and this magecraft can draw it all out.

He always carries the materials of his craft with him - pure, natural gems. These include but are not limited to: Quartz - the channeling stone. Versatile, mutable, plentiful, and strong. Ruby - the stone of authority. Passion, heat, courage, nobility, vitality. Topaz - the life-giving stone. Tough, warm, soothing, healing, stimulating, steadiness. Emerald - the stone of truths. Clarity, intuition, love, sacred ritual. Sapphire - the stone of prosperity. Faith, fortune, focus. Amethyst - the peace stone. Balance, confidence, calm, empowerment, purification. Opal - the sighting stone. Luck, karma, mysticism, freedom, expansion, transfiguration. Onyx - the stone of protection. Harmony, defense, strength, absorption, negation, willpower. Diamond - the stone of commitment. Stamina, promise, virtue, immunity, intelligence.

Beyond natural rock and mineral, Feliciano's personal development of Gemcraft have given him insight into two particular "gems."

Pearls: the objects of purity. All pearls project integrity, royalty, and wisdom. Different colors carry different meanings. Their unique properties of being developed inside a living organism grant particular power when used in casting, such as a strong connection to the sea and life energies.
Blood: Gemstones made of hardened blood clots, developed in living humans and extracted when they are ready. A personal project that has had some success. The blood stones are particularly good for storing mana, and they are aligned towards destruction, grudge, deception, yearning, and persistence.

Crest: None, destroyed.

Mystic Codes:
Savoia Brooch - a large, ornate brooch with an empty space in the center. Developed by Feliciano's family at one point, it's a channeling tool. A gem can be placed into the space in the center of the brooch, and the gem's energies will be focused for a stronger, more potent spell.

Miniature Treasury - a tiny chest that can be held in two hands. It is dark wood inlaid with nacre, and so light that it seems empty. In function it is a mere jewelry box, in which one can reach through and grasp a gemstone. It is not like a bag of holding or tied to imaginary space, as it is linked to a physical room where physical objects are stored. Rather, it is more like a separate doorway into the space it's linked to. While Feliciano does have many stones and trinkets on his person, carrying around as many as he'd need for serious spells would be way too heavy! By the way, being a treasury room there are metals in it was well, such as silver and gold, but who cares about those.

Despite the more modern fashion of the face claim, Inti wears the traditional clothes of his homeland. Colorful, strongly woven tabards, pants, shirts and shawls. Besides when sleeping, he can pretty much always be seen in a poncho of some sort - his favorite being a big red, white, and purple item with an intricate pattern stitched in. His hair is indeed a tricolor enigma that he states he was born with. Like all of his siblings, both within his Bunch and outside of it, he sports a small tattoo of a chakana on his shoulder blade.

Their Story
Can one create a Polymath? What would it take to do so? Would one have to grasp the very formulae that make up the human soul, or can the perfect environment be created to condition a Polymath from birth? In Tawantinsuyu, known outside of the 'New World' as the Inca Empire, the answer lay in a certain small population of 'kurakakuna,' those families that gave their bloodlines in service to the Empire. With Edenic Beasts as their mentors, those that would have been called priests centuries ago began working with these families to create Polymaths soon after the Futile War came to a close. Early tests were all but failures, as they quickly realized that humans couldn't simply grant the ability to perceive formulae the way the great Beasts could. They turned to other avenues, and other Formulizations for the project. At it's current stage with the introduction of Egoists specializing in 'reproduction,' altering their bodies and wombs to create the perfect vessel for special children, the project has seen some success.

Tawantinsuyu's 'artificial Polymaths' number few, but they'd proven it was indeed possible! Motivated by the results of this research branch, other branches of the government turned their sights to other things that had been deemed impossible. Mesmerology, or changing the formula of a living being, maybe it all could be possible.

The next question was, how many other nations had similar projects?

This is where Inti comes in.

He is a third generation artificial Polymath - or more accurately part of 'Bunch #3', the third batch of children which could be considered homunculi. With the opening of the Academic City of Bermuda, and the subjects of Bunch #4 still too young, Inti was chosen as the representative of Tawantinsuyu. He was the most gifted with formulae of all his fellow bunch-siblings, and with a strong life force, positive attitude and a specialization in Dynamicism that was previously achieved through relentless study and use of natural mineral and lodestones, there was no better choice. He would be able to show the rest of the world the potential of Tawantinsuyu, while absorbing information about other nations at the same time.

That last part was particularly interesting to Inti himself, as growing up in a government facility could be pretty dull at times. The artificial Polymaths were treated well, raised and socialized in groups and given an approximation of 'normal' childhood, in between their Formulization studies... but they were also smart kids that could tell their situation wasn't exactly the usual. For Inti, though unquestioningly loyal to Tawantinsuyu and the only family he's known, the prospect of making some outside friends, learning about other cultures and experiencing life outside is extremely exciting. Despite any ulterior motives, he is giddy and optimistic about the semester.

A single child whose family is one of those that grows and ships Mistralton's produce. Kennedy - or "Ken" as his parents call him - has worked the farm all his life, developing a knack for observing and caring for living things. This of course included Pokémon, as many species both tame and wild visited the gardens. Protecting the crop from the latter meant learning to battle, and he grew decent at it... not that any of his peers would know. Kennedy was a good student, but never the most social. Though not shy, he had always been quiet and deferential, and he usually hurried home after classes to spend time with his Pokémon instead because his previous attempts to make human friends failed more often than not. Now in his final year, it's Kennedy's last chance to get close to his classmates. The goal: obtain at least one (1) human friend. He joined the academy's battle team as a late addition hoping to do just that. Of course, battling wild Pokémon is a lot different than battling a trainer, and his lack of personal skills might interfere in the friendship aspect, but he's willing to give it his all.

Appearance:

175cm and filled out, with strong arms and a narrow waist. Leon has white skin and a mop of blonde hair that's usually covered by a hat, headphones, or goggles. Faint freckles dot his face, neck, and arms, along with various cuts, scrapes, and bandages. He has little scars all over his hands and forearms - his legs and feet too. In many spots on his body really, not that those would be obvious. He pretty much always wears the blazer of his uniform unbuttoned, with a hoodie or jacket worn under or over it. Though he only wears a thin chain for jewelry now, there are many holes in his ears where piercings used to be along with a tear in the right lobe. Seems his nostrils and tongue may have been pierced at one time as well.

Reputation:

A trouble magnet. Bad luck. A weirdo. A whirlpool.

A scholarship student who got into the academy due to his background in robotics. He spends almost all of his free time working on personal projects, so catching him outside of class or the cafeteria is uncommon. He is a passionate person capable of intense focus, and often times he'll ignore all else while he is elbow deep in his work. He is an introvert by nature, but not a loner - by choice anyway. He likes people but he doesn't go out of his way to reach out to them anymore, resigned to isolation. He comes off as awkward or rude since it's hard to carry a conversation that goes nowhere, and he is headstrong and not one for mincing words which has made his first impressions all the more rough.

Although the real reason he doesn't seem to keep many friends is because something always seems to go wrong around him sooner or later. It's not a rumor, it's a fact; and uncanny enough that it might be more than just Leon's clumsiness. Even this early on in the year at Harbour Academy it's known: bad luck and bad news alike find their way to him and the people around him. Anything that gets too close gets sucked in and dashed to pieces.

Background:

Prior to arriving in Britain, Leon lived in the United States where he was born and raised. He was the only child of two well off parents, so growing up he had everything a kid could need. In his early childhood he was even a bit smothered, given his family's concern over a condition he was born with: numbness and the absence of pain in his extremities, making him into an accident prone kid. Despite that, life was pretty good for the England family early on.

Things began to get rough as Leon got older. He'd never grown out of his clumsiness and at this point never would, in fact a bad luck streak seemed to stick with Leon and he'd come home with more injuries than ever the older he got. Not all of it was due to accidents - you see when your family is as well off as Leon's was, other kids try to suck up to you. When it doesn't work and they find out you're kind of a nerd, they get harsh with you. And when you push back, that's when they get downright cruel. Not one to back down, Leon ended up fighting a lot. It was distressing for his parents to say the least, though for Leon it was something he'd gotten used to.

As for his school life, it was touch and go for a couple of years. His family moved a few times, and things would go well for a while before they went right back to how they were before. Leon couldn't seem to keep trouble away from him. One of the only things that kept him going in school was working on machines. It was a hobby he'd taken interest in years ago, and it had remained his passion ever since. There was a certain catharsis to building something from scratch and knowing exactly how it worked. To taking something apart piece by piece and deciding if it should be put back together again. He enjoyed tinkering with all kinds of machines in that way, but robots were his favorite. To that end always he joined every robotics club he found. He was pretty good at it.

Junior high was a tipping point. It was when his whirlpool of bad luck started spreading. Things broke around him, people got hurt, and even his class hamster died when it was his turn to watch it. In reality, it was coincidence. To Leon, it was a self-fulfilling prophecy - and to other kids? It was creepy. When they started coming after him, things devolved into more than just fighting. It was shocking what people could do to someone when they thought that they couldn't feel it. These things Leon never told his parents, claiming he'd just had another accident.

It was obvious his parents were becoming exasperated with everything that was going on with him. Instead of confiding in them and putting more on their plate, Leon tried to relieve their worries by redoubling his efforts at school. He got good grades, he won robotics competitions, things seemed to be working out even if the "accidents" were getting worse. As soon as his parents brought up changing schools again, Leon handed them an acceptance letter to Harbour Academy. He'd been applying to international schools behind their back, as they never would have considered it under normal circumstances. They still didn't like the idea of letting their son go so far away, but eventually they relented. A fresh start would be good for him, whether it was abroad or not.

It's name is derived from several different "triangles" of urban myth known as the Devil's Triangles - patches of ocean that sink ships and crash planes, the vessels never to be found again. The most well known of these is the infamous Bermuda Triangle, which this Persona embodies. It stands a little more than twice as tall as Leon, and though it can move on its own it can be "piloted" from the back.

Sea of Unconscious Weapon:

A gun that looks like it was pulled straight out of a sci-fi anime. Not exactly a flintlock fit for a seafarer, but a reliable weapon all the same.

Character Concept Kouta, or "Kou" as she prefers to be called, is a very sheltered girl. She's a business woman who basically lives in Goldenrod City, but frequently visits Unova and other regions for extended business trips. Because of this, Kou's childhood was very secluded. No unsupervised time outside of the house, no sleepovers, no school field trips, and definitely no Pokémon. As a teenager, Kou's acts of rebellion started by sneaking out of the house at night. One night, she actually ran into a wandering Oddish. She saw it again the night after that. Gradually the two of them became friends and Kou smuggled it into her room. When it was discovered two weeks later, Kou and her father had a massive argument that led to Oddish being thrown out and Kou being "ground indefinitely." All of this leads to Kou's current situation and concept. She is a runaway from home who only has whatever she managed to stuff into her backpack. She used her small amount of money to purchase Pokéball for Oddish, who she met up with after leaving. Now the two of them head west from Cerulean City to make it on their own. Pokémon Kou's relationship with Pokémon is only just beginning. Her family has never kept Pokémon, and she'd never been allowed to play with the neighbors'. At the moment she only knows the basic facts that are taught in general education: things like all Pokémon have "types," some people use them for battling each other, they can be dangerous if you don't have a Pokémon of your own... and et cetera. Since meeting Oddish, she's been doing a lot of hands on learning which she greatly enjoys. It's lead to her forming a wish a deep in heart - meet as many Pokémon as possible to learn more about them! Oddish | Oddish Oddish does not yet have a nickname. It was a wild Pokémon until only a few days ago, though it was bonded to Kou before its official capture. It has a mild nature, shows concern for others, and though it has some tears in its leaves its appearance is otherwise the usual for an Oddish.

Kou barely brushes five feet in height, though as far as proportions go her limbs are long and thin. Her body is thin too, the only plush part of her being whatever baby fat still clings to her cheeks, making her face rounded. It's clear that she doesn't get out much, from her palish skin to her lack of any budding muscle. Her hair is a fluffy orange, and she's proud to cut it herself. Her eyes are large, bright, and inquisitive - and Kou has a tendency to stare which can get unnerving. She doesn't smile much, but her eyes are expressive enough to show her happiness. In the summer her skin blooms with freckles where the sun touches it, which fade after a few days indoors.

Personality:

Although Kouta (or "Kou" as she prefers to be called) is on the quieter side, she is anything but shy. She has a curious, persistent personality that drives her to learn. She tries her best to connect with others, but due to isolation during her childhood and lack of personal experience, she finds it hard to make friends. She has yet to master the art of telling "white lies," and so she is honest with others to a fault. In fact she is bad at lying in general, though she does sometimes try to hide anything that might get her into trouble she is quickly found out. Though it seems her mood is fickle, that is because she is so unused to new experiences that she doesn't know how to handle them - though in general she enjoys the excitement of trying things. When she is stressed, agitated, or otherwise uncomfortable she has a habit of playing with whatever is in her hands; crushing or tearing things, or clenching and unclenching her fist if she has nothing.

The arcana bypasses locks and magic charms, and hasn't failed to force something open so far. Lance had been a skinny kid when he was first enrolled. It was hard to put on the muscle that training as a WARDEN demanded, but within the last decade he had managed it. Now he is compactly built, hard muscle everywhere with virtually no excess fat. Even with the nicks and scars carved into his body from training and scraps, he takes pride in his physique as the proof of all of his hard work. He keeps as fit as possible, especially because he is prone to illness. It didn't used to be that way - somewhere along the line he got sick and stayed sick, always running some kind of low level fever if his skin was anything to go by. It's both a warm tan complexion and warm to the touch. Nothing serious though, as he'd say.

Because he is rarely out of uniform, he doesn't put much thought into what he wears during his down time. Most of his clothes are gifts or hand-me-downs anyway. It is quite funny to see him mix some garment a more fashion forward friend gave to him with the most worn out piece of clothing the world has ever seen. He basically just wears whatever makes him happy or catches his interest. He is most commonly seen with his trademark scarf, embroidered with the initials Z.B.

Loyalty is the basis of Lance's personality. He was raised believing how important it was to obey one's parents, their superiors, and their God. The thought of betraying someone's trust doesn't even cross his mind, and on the rare chance he does it the guilt eats away at him until he usually ends up confessing. Because of this, Lance makes for a good friend and is very easy to get along with. He's always willing to lend a hand, hear someone out, or join in on a fun time.

He's fine with banter and can take a good ribbing. He tries not to let anything bother him, keeping strong both for himself and others. He doesn't often talk about his family, and though some jabs at his character hurt more than others he is quick to forgive... if not forget. His emotions are easy to read on his face, he definitely wears his heart on his sleeve. When he's in a good mood he loves to share it, but when he's feeling down or conflicted, he deflects.

Lance has come to be known as hard working and reliable. Someone who always puts others before himself. The kind of person you can lean on if you need to, very literally; he's lent his shoulder for people to cry on and bodily dragged fellow drunken WARDENs back to the barracks plenty of times. He isn't touchy per se, but he appreciates a friendly touch and will happily reciprocate whether its a hug or one of his squadmates dragging him to the sparring ring to kick his ass again.

Perhaps not so surprisingly given his upbringing, but he is quite chaste. He travels to one of the Citadel's cathedrals once a week, head down, intense, introspective and quietly talking with himself. This is a routine he takes very seriously. Sometimes he struggles with his own identity, although this is a side of himself he would be mortified to let anyone else in on. He especially doesn't want anyone to find out just how afraid he is of being deployed for real.

The Bennett family have a proud history. Rassvet natives dedicated to service - even before the Rassvet-Vangar Conflict began. Sons and daughters of the lineage had always been devout members of the Order of the Dawn, inquisitors from a long line of inquisitors. The current family patriarch, Jophiel Bennett, had been one of a handful of prolific High Inquisitors in Fazra before being forced to retire due to a leg injury. He and his wife Miranda returned to Rassvet to the Bennett estate, in the pretty fishing village of Sheldock on the coast, where they raised their four sons.

The eldest son Michael was put on a high pedestal, groomed to be the next Bennett inquisitor before he could even talk which kept him from WARDEN life. The second son Lance however was sure to be scooped up by the WARDENs as soon as he was of age to be tested given his innate capabilities. This too was a source of pride for the family. The youngest son Laramie would eventually go on to show a sense for magic unlike any other. The only anomaly was the middle son Zadkiel, who seemed to have inherited none of the prestige of the family name and had little to no aptitude for magic. It was normal for talent to skip a child or two, so while Zak did not receive any of the special training or attention of his father, he was treated with love all the same.

A few weeks after Lance's tenth birthday, he was selected to join WARDEN just as many predicted. The boy was excited, looking forward to it. In celebration, the boy's father let the eldest three brothers take their boat out for some quality time together before they split up - as Michael would soon be leaving as well, traveling to Fazra to complete his initiation into the Order. Lunches and fishing poles packed, the day was a blur of warmth and happiness. It was on their way back that tragedy struck. As dusk was settling over the water, one of the boys rocked the boat a little too hard, or shoved each other just a little too roughly, and Lance was thrown overboard. Given that the family was well accustomed to the water, the remaining brothers waited for Lance to come back up. He never did. Frantically, Michael and Zak dove in to try and find him, but the waters were dark by then. It was late into the night when they gave up, unable to locate their brother. Explaining what happened to their father was most frightening thing the boys had ever done.

Jophiel was a stern, proud man who took his and his family's image very seriously. He was unwilling to admit that Lance, WARDEN hopeful and prodigal son, had died on his watch; not to himself or anyone else. He couldn't face that shame and disappointment.

What followed was a devious scheme un-befitting a Dawn inquisitor. One of his sons had drowned that day, but it wasn't Lance - it was Zadkiel. That's what he convinced the world of. Lance and Zadkiel were close in age, Zak only one year younger, and with the same red hair and tanned skin they were commonly confused with each other. If one hadn't been treated so much more handsomely than the other, they could have been twins. Zadkiel was not on board for this plan, but as a child there was not much he could do. He was pressed into obedience and sworn to silence. The Bennett family mourned "Zadkiel" for a little while, and prepared "Lance" to be sent to the Citadel.

After the WARDENs came to collect him, they were suspicious of "Lance's" sudden drop in aptitude. The lie was maintained with the explanation that his grief over his brother was deeply affecting him. This was true, as the boy barely had time to process everything that had happened to himself and his brother. He never would have made the cut for WARDEN under normal circumstances, so the training was absolutely grueling. Over time it got harder and harder to make up excuses, so the only thing "Lance" could do was train harder and harder. He gained a reputation as a workhorse, and though he was consistently in the lowest percentile of his class, he managed to remain "WARDEN material."

The first few years he hated every minute of it, but the crushing guilt he would feel if he deserted stopped him from doing so. The only people who knew the truth of his situation were himself, his father, and his older brother. Aggressive gaslighting on Jophiel's part managed to convince even his mother that he was, and had always been, Lance. The family never spoke of the incident, so their youngest son grew up never knowing there had been a fourth brother at all. If he left service, it would completely destroy his relationship with his family. If he confessed the truth, it would stain the family's image. More than that though, if he refused to carry this name then Lance would really be gone forever.

So he swallowed his grief, his discomfort, everything that told him this was wrong. He suffered the brutal lifestyle of future WARDENs, endured the ridicule of better trainees, learned to live with the mistburn and tried not to develop an abusive habit with the burn reducing drugs. As a kid he'd hated his old fashioned, traditional name, but while lying awake after training he would give nearly anything to hear someone call him by it.

When graduation came, he'd had to scurry off and find somewhere private to let himself be emotional. The certificate said Lance Bennett, like he knew it would. It had "his" birth date. The real Lance would have been twenty now, while the young man holding the paper was nineteen. Staring at the certificate brought about such a weird, volatile mix of emotions. He was bitter, he was proud. He had nearly burnt a hole through the thing before someone came to find him.

He is glad for the road trip, jumping at the chance to join. He hopes to use it to sort out all his feelings before deployment. If nothing else he is determined to stay alive during the conflict so he can finally come clean after serving his term, put Lance to rest and die as his own man - hopefully far into the future.

It was a common joke around the barracks that there should be a WARDEN 4^th class solely so that Lance could occupy it. That fact is that Lance is never the best person in the squad at any given thing; he is far from a fighting prodigy and could never cut it as a mage. What he does have are his eyes, his body, tenacity, and the drive to protect himself and others.

In melee he relies on his strength more than anything, having honed himself over the last decade into a human-spear to drive wedges between enemy formations. He is usually first into combat for that reason, to create an opening for others to capitalize on. Like every other WARDEN he is proficient with many kinds of weapons, but he prefers pikes and a trusty sword most of all... when he's not using firearms that is, which he quite good with. Though Lance is no slouch with melee weaponry (a decade of training will make sure of that), he is much better with a rifle or handgun - especially high-precision, long-range rifles. Despite that, he is relegated to the front line because his difficulties with sensing and channeling the Mist make it difficult for him to operate as a true independent ranger. Give him a spotter or a partner though, and he makes an efficient and deadly sniper.

Magic was never Lance's strong suit. His affinity with the Mist is very low, and he suffers from mistburn so often it might as well be constant. To both cover up his symptoms and make himself seem at least a little competent, Lance focused on learning a simple kind of magic and learning it well: elemental control over fire. Needless to say using magic is a last resort for him in combat. His "signature" spell is the halo of flames, a ring of fire summoned above or around him that flings embers outward from it.

Finally, over his WARDEN uniform he wears a light armor modeled after the likes of the Order of the Dawn's inquisitors but bearing the Bennett family crest. It's imbued with blessings and isn't hard to move around in at all. At one point he hated the armor, but after several cuts and scratches and a friendly paint job, he came to like it well enough; it does give him a little more protection after all.

Character Story 2

As a Driyosh of the Vahumana Darshan, Javid has wandered the lands of Sumeru and some of its neighboring nations. He has long suspected that he was only granted his status of Driyosh as a way for his superiors to be rid of him, hoping that his nature as a storm chaser would eventually retire him for good. However, he has no evidence to support this. Nevertheless he is glad to be able to travel; experiencing other cultures firsthand is useful not only for his thesis and study, but his growth as a person. Not to mention there were all kinds of interesting, exciting things to find, and more freedom to study them - the matra's watchful eyes only reached so far outside of Sumeru's sand and forest, after all.

Character Story 3

"Storm Chaser" is not a title earned, but rather an epithet that Javid discovered others within the Akademiya referred to him as. It's literal meaning is a person who follows after dangerous weather, be they thunderstorms, sandstorms, or the like, in order to experience or study them. On that level it isn't really true of Javid, although there was that one time when an inter-Darshan study tour comprised of Vahumana, Haravatat, and Kshahrewar students were stranded at the site of some ancient ruins during a particularly vicious storm that Javid hadn't let get in the way of his research. He'd suggested that they make use of the storm and look into how ancient and contemporary storm procedures differed, if they could find any examples during the event before heading out of the shelter. No, he suspects that the nickname only really picked up over the years as he volunteered for progressively more dangerous expeditions. All things considered, he doesn't mind it.

Character Story 4

Javid received his vision after declaring his major field of research, finding it laid gently on his bed that same night. He considered it proof that he'd made the right choice, and a great boon to the research itself: the cultural differences between allogenes and "normal humans." He could tell that the way people treated him had changed immediately. Anthropology, history, and philosophy are all of great interest to Javid like most others in the Vahumana Darshan, and his research is just the next step; how those with a vision and those without each think, go about their lives, how they view that power, and comparing those answers within Sumeru to the answers from other nations. However, because Vahumana especially are always looking into the "why" of things, he must be careful with his notes. Looking into such mysterious forces like gods, visions, and their chosen skirts close enough to committing one of the Akademiya's "sins" that he may already be on the matra's radar.

He grew up on the slimmer side and favors practical dark colored clothing. The mark of his guild is tattooed on his spine where neck meets shoulder, and a simple patch covers the area where his left eye would be. Despite only having the one, lack of depth perception isn't a weakness of his so long as he is focusing (early mornings are the worst for it). He is dexterous, skilled with his hands, and learned all the simple magic tricks that would have delighted the friends from his childhood. He knows his way around a few types of blades, and though fist fighting isn't his forte he can throw a mean punch. Take one too. He justifies his life as a thief, working among men that have much more storied rap sheets than him, by telling himself that his parents would prefer him like this rather than in a grave beside them. Still, shame lingers. His psyche, fractured by childhood trauma, colors his relationship with both possessions and people. He tends not to keep much of anything for fear of growing attached and then losing it. He tries to keep others at a distance, never close enough that it would hurt when they inevitably left. But people are harder not to get attached to, and harder to just give away, as it were. It's impossible for him to completely close his heart off, though not for lack of trying. The ghost of the boy he used to be must be buried somewhere within him. Danyl is rough around the edges, but hard working and generally trustworthy despite his profession. He often tells people he's "a thief, not a spy," when they give him shit about his very obvious lying tell. With no real outlet for his anger he'd gained a bit of a temper as he aged, and though he isn't quick to violence he certainly doesn't shy away from it. The fire never really left him that day, its coals remained in his chest until he was old enough to stoke the flame and develop a hell of a want for vengeance. For Danyl, there is no moving forward from his past until he can cut out the part of him that hurts. Obviously cutting his heart out would kill him, so he has to remove the next best thing: the bandits that caused the pain in the first place.

Town grocers; a thickly built husband, a plump and vibrant wife, and three healthy children with one more on the way. They lived in a large home that was always in need of some kind of repair, with an even larger garden that the whole household tended to. The patriarch held friendships far and wide through his dealings with merchants, and proof of his bonds filled the family home in the form of knick knacks and tapestry that enchanted his wife and children. It was a well loved and well lived in homestead, nestled deep in the hamlet of Ardenfeld. Danyl was the family's middle child, affectionately called "Danny" by pretty much the entire town. He spent his youth happily gathering other children together and regaling them with tales of places far outside of their little village; his father's stories, with some fun embellishments of his own. He fancied himself mature beyond his years, but he still giggled when someone ruffled his hair. He loved spending time with Mary, exploring and showing off for her. Enjoyed every argument he had with Lyndii about whether something was true or not, and making up afterward over snacks. Was always elated when Shysca from across the way was invited to visit, too young then to realize his elder brother had a crush on her. After a rocky start that involved more than a few bruises he'd even befriended the girl Teth, as close with her as any other in the village. In those days he wanted for nothing... L I F E A T T H E O R P H A N A G E L I F E A T T H E O R P H A N A G E _______________________________________________________________________________________________ For a long time after the fire, Danyl wished that he had burned up too. He was a boy of nine years when he arrived at the orphanage, his once vibrant personality suffocated by grief. Life in Sarinan could have been worse, but for children ripped from their homes and families and suddenly thrust into an unfamiliar city and made to live with unfamiliar people, it was a whole lot of awful. The only thing that kept Danyl from complete despair was the company of his friends and fellow survivors. In the early days of the orphanage they looked out for each other. They encouraged each other. They were each others' shoulder to cry on, some more than others. And they would always have each other. Until they didn't. One by one the Ardenfeld children left. Even though they'd promised each other that wherever they might go they would meet again at that town, Danyl felt his heart crumple more with every departure. Teth was the last, and when she asked if he remembered their promise he knew she'd leave him too. By the next night Danyl was the only one them still at the orphanage. Everything that had remained of his previous life was gone. That he never fled wasn't surprising; he was not as brave or strong as some of the other kids. That he was never adopted was to be expected; no one wanted to take in a child that had something wrong with them. During the walk to Sarinan and in the subsequent confusion of the establishment taking on so many new kids at once, the injury he'd taken during the fire had gotten worse. His left eye had been punctured, and by the time healers had gotten around to taking a look it was too late to repair it. His vision had gone completely during the five years he spent at the orphanage. When he was released into the streets of Sarinan with no where to go and no possessions to his name he was a teenager, angry and emotional. He'd gotten over his want to join his family in the next world knew now if he didn't live on in spite of everything, then his family died for nothing. So he did live, scraping by begging in the streets of Sarinan. O N W A R D: A N E W P A T H O N W A R D: A N E W P A T H _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Months after Danyl began roughing it as a street urchin, one of his father's merchant friends passed through town. The man had no plan to look after the boy, but he could at least give Danyl a ride to the capital city where surely opportunity awaited. That opportunity, it turned out, was being picked up by a thieves' guild. They called themselves Palla Orchids, a slightly facetious name, and they fancied themselves as 'noble thieves' stealing only from those that could afford to lose. Their captain was a man named Victor Mason who took the starving boy in. On a whim, he'd said, after the most amusing look on Danyl's face when he pointed out to the kid that pick-pocketing would fetch more coin than relying on charity. The Orchids' base was more like a criminal hostel than anything. It was hardly a home. The Orchids themselves were certainly not a family, but for most of them this place and these people were all they had. It bred a certain loyalty in them, and the same went for Danyl. With some polish Danyl made a decent thief and burglar. Decent scrapper too, after Victor and some of the other men taught him how to fight. Early on he was deeply ashamed of what he'd become. It was immediately apparent that the guild did not adhere to its noble tenets - but they were taking money and trinkets, not lives or homes. Nothing compared what their targets could be losing. Living there, being with the guild, was a whole lot easier and safer than trying to make it on his own. There, he wasn't greeted with pity or disgust. They traded jokes with him. They called him Danny. He never considered Victor as a surrogate father, but eventually he looked up to the man like one. And he'd always been so damn eager to please. He spent five more years there in Pallaviel, honing his skill. It wasn't much, but it was life. He became a lieutenant in the guild for his as of yet unfailing service, concerning himself only with providing for the guild, keeping himself alive, and keeping his ear to the ground for any leads about a certain bandit group. He fulfilled the captain's every command, whether it was doing the jobs no one else wanted or chasing down deserters before they left the city. Day to day duties kept painful memories at bay on the good days, but they stubbornly clung to him. On the tenth anniversary of the fire, Danyl requested leave, prepared a small pack, and set out for what had once been home. His heart had been hurting all these years, and it was time to cut some of the pain away. He didn't expect any of the friends from back then to remember their promise. When they inevitably didn't show up he would be able to let them go for good.

_{Feudal disputes between the many villages in the greater Kanto-Johto area have reached an all time high, leading to the burning of the Brass Tower: a site of great spiritual importance to the peoples of Johto. Now, the population of both regions have called for an end to the violence. However, while some seek a ceasefire, other push for peace through complete conquest. There is word on the wind that certain individuals are seeking out powerful Pokémon in order to seize victory in one way or another. With Ho-oh and Lugia having departed Johto, taking their divine protection with them, now is the perfect time for Kantojin to take the upper hand or extend an olive branch. The only question is, which will they choose? And are the people of Johto willing to accept the outcome, whatever it may be?}

Kanto no Yabo (working title) is a story set in an alternate universe within the Pokémon franchise. Loosely inspired by Pokémon Conquest, some general fan theories, in-game lore, and now years after I came up with the idea Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the setting for this story is far in a feudal past of the regions Kanto and Johto. A maximum of up to six players will create characters that are integral to this conflict between two regions. Whether the players choose to all be part of one mission or split into two groups, each one representing one of the regions, remains to be scene. Either way, characters will be working towards creating a lasting peace between Kanto and Johto — by whatever means necessary.

Setting the Stage

Kanto and Johto - two cultures occupying the same landmass, separated by the striking and fearsome Mount Silver. It is unknown if Kantojin and Johtojin were one people before the mountain range split their landmass down the middle, but it doesn't matter now. In the current era, the regions of Johto and Kanto are undeniably different. In Kanto, villages which were once independent have recently all come under the same banner. The land of Kanto is ill suited for farming, and so the people depend on trade and aquaculture to support themselves. Mountains, caves, and the underground itself is rich with not nutrients, but ore and precious stones - and the barren land is gradually being covered over by expanding communities and well tread merchant trails. In comparison, Johto is a land full of beautiful greenery. Food grows plentiful in Johto, and the Pokémon that live there are just as well fed as the people. A more traditional region, Johto's villages remain largely separated from each other; each with a feudal lord looking after it's citizens. For Johto, times have never been more prosperous. It's citizens are happy to trade the Kantojin their bountiful food for beautiful tools and trinkets produced in the neighboring region. For many in Kanto however, this arrangement is not good enough. Years of seeing that the grass really is greener on the other side has bred resentment in the hearts of some Kantojin...

One point of contention between the people of Kanto and Johto is the growing of a special fruit known as the apricorn. Johto is the perfect environment for these fruits to grow in, and oh do they thrive there. Many different colors and varieties can be found in every corner of the region. The opposite is true in Kanto: poor soil quality means that even berries hardly grow there, let alone apricorns. Apricorns are the easiest known method of taming a wild Pokémon, their hard flesh transformed into holding areas known as "Pokémon Balls." Because of this, only the most wealthy or lucky Kantojin able to import apricorns are seen wielding Pokémon Balls, and thus their families owning more than one or two Pokémon.

The major issue between the two regions are the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh and Lugia. Huge, wise, and immensely powerful, these Pokémon make their roost deep in the heart of Johto where the people worship them as benevolent deities. It's commonly thought that Ho-oh and Lugia look after the region they live in, ensuring bountiful summers and mild winters, and providing sunlight and rainfall as needed. In return, priests maintain the Brass and Tin Towers where these Pokémon live, and regularly travel to the top to gift offerings and obtain wisdom. People from all over Johto and even Kanto make the trek to the towers for a chance to be personally blessed by the Pokémon. With no such Pokémon in Kanto, the people are left to fend for themselves. Emissaries of Ho-Oh and Lugia were thought to live in Kanto, but these mysterious Pokémon live in solitude and rarely show themselves - when they do, they bring not peace but thunderous storms. It is plain to see why many Kantojin feel their region was unfairly forsaken, and harbor envy for those that live on the other side of the mountain.

Personality:

Passionate and devoted to his cause, Rider is a noble warrior in all sense of the word. He is quick and strong, with a steady voice that encouraged many men into battle. He's even got a famous quote attributed to him, though he denies he actually said it.

Although Rider appears intimidating in his battle dress, and his behavior on the battlefield certainly reflects an image of a talented and fearless warrior, in truth Rider is a reserved man. When he isn't embroiled in conflict he is quiet, demure even. He shies away from the touch of others and keeps his thoughts to himself. It's sometimes hard to believe this passive person is the same inspiring fighter in the many stories told about him. Still, through his somewhat awkward demeanor a pure soul shines. Rider is helpful, giving, and dedicated to the well-being of those around him. If a friend is in need of a kind gesture, he'll swallow his own discomfort and lend a smile, joke, or embrace. Naturally, he will protect those close to him with his own body if he needs to. He follows what his heart thinks is right, and though it sometimes leads to trouble he manages.

Bio:

A simplified story - Tasunke Witko, then known by a different name, grew up in the Great Plains of what would become part of the United States. His misadventurous youthful days were quickly coming to end as settlers from the East claimed more and more of the Plains as their own. In order to protect his people's native and land and their way of life, Tasunke Witko took the name of his father and led the Lakota into battle against the United States. His performance in the the midst of battle was said to be awe inspiring, and he quickly became a war leader.

After some time of fighting and seeing his comrades slain, Tasunke Witko had his first vision. It was one of several to come, and it depicted his future self. His father interpreted the vision to mean that no harm would come to Tasunke Witko in battle from an enemy, and that prophecy held true. The only times Tasunke Witko suffered injury were from his own people, in accidents or arguments. The one time he was wounded by someone outside of his tribe was the night of his death. After years of fighting a war with the United States, Tasunke Witko and his people finally surrendered peacefully. However, Tasunke Witko was still to be arrested. When he appeared at the Fort Robinson, he was seized, stabbed in the back, and died. Although the wound he suffered was fatal, it remained that while in battle no white man was ever able to touch him.

  • The ability to ride vehicles and other mounts. At this rank, all vehicles and creatures, except those of Phantasmal Beast and Divine Beast-rank can be used as mounts.

  • An ability the protects against magic. At this rank, it can cancel spells with a chant below two verses but cannot defend against magecraft on the level of High-Thaumaturgy or Greater Rituals.

  • The ability to defend against projectiles and ranged attacks. Rider was advised through a vision that if he followed certain steps, he would never be harmed in battle. Respect one's self and one's enemies. So long as he followed the advice, he was never struck by bullet or arrow. He does not have a superhuman sense of incoming danger, instead projectiles merely seem to pass him by.
• Prana Burst (Courage) B
  • An ability that pushes magical energy throughout the body and beyond, but For Rider, this is a strictly an internal type of Prana Burst. His inner warrior's heart floods out, supplying Rider with the bravery one needs to carry into battle. Unafraid to face down foes, Rider's body becomes colored with his ritual war paint: Hail stones for an increase to defense, steadiness, and stratagem; the lightning bolt for an increase to speed, strength, and precision. For a moment, he is whatever kind of warrior he needs to be.
• Revelation (Trance) C
  • An ability to receive outside messages in order to reach one's goal. In contrast to the normal Revelation skill, Rider receives these messages as visions from the spirit world, rather than a voice from on high. The visions can be clairvoyant in nature, and are often cryptic - Rider himself is not the best interpreter either.

Description:

Rider's faithful steed. Although there's some stories of Rider unable to keep one horse for long, that isn't true - Inyan has been with him since he'd returned from his impromptu vision quest. With a name meaning "stone," the horse is a fearless, solidly built pinto. Inyan faithfully carried Rider through many battles, and just like Rider he was said to have never been harmed. This was due to a blessing from a shaman, extending Rider's own protection to Inyan, and Inyan's to Rider. Whenever Rider mounts his horse, man and animal become one, sharing thoughts, senses, and even skills.

Description:

The spirits of thunder, thought they usually take the form of great birds, come in all shapes and have one thing in common: they appear as a great and ferocious storm. Not malevolent, but purely powerful. One story passed from a Lakota told of the thunder beings as horses that ran across the sky, and every beat of their hooves shook the cloud with thunder, and their riders fought with bolts of lightning that fell to Earth when they collided with each other. During one particular storm, thunder and lightning flashed violently across the sky, and a sudden crack of sound and blinding of light split the sky in fulmination. Where the lightning had fallen was a great horse wreathed in electricity. Inyan, Rider's steady companion, takes the form of that horse when he activates his Noble Phantasm. Calling back a vision he had of himself astride a thunderous horse that danced in the air, Inyan becomes a force of nature capable of shooting across at battlefield at high speed, obliterating anything in his path. The explosive acceleration makes smooth turns impossible, but zigzaging like an arch of lightning across the sky is well within his ability.

Description:

It was said that in a vision, Rider slipped into the true world, where "everything [was] made of spirit, and nothing was hard, and everything seemed to float." A place not unlike the Reverse Side of the World, yet separate: the Lakota's Spirit World, where existed the spirit of all things. In that world, his steed moved freely like an untethered shadow. What's more, Rider could align his own spirit with the true world and slip back into it at will. Now, that vision taking the form of a Noble Phantasm, Rider and mount can move through the Spirit World un-observable to those remaining in the human realm. While he cannot be seen or touched himself, Rider can observe shadows of the human world, though he cannot interact with them. Although River can slip into the Spirit World at will with no need for a true name release, it only results in short distances being covered. At full power, Rider can cross a wide area while dancing through the true world. Either way, using this technique drains a lot of mana.

Fighting Style:

Although Rider is capable in close combat and a fair shot, speedy attacks while mounted as his specialty. That is to say, he is a blitz attacker. He is tenacious and determined while in battle, but also strongly adheres to the notion of living to fight another day. He will prioritize his allies' safety over victory.
