Damian opened his mouth to reply and quickly found his mood soured when he turned to see who was coming down the hall towards them. And he didn't miss the venom in the man's voice. "We've good reason to watch your guild, jack ass, but we haven't wasted time on it. I don't have the slightest clue where your hotel is. I've been occupied with other things today. Now if you don't mind, we've got guild busniness to attend to." Turning back to Samir, he leads her into his room and closes the door, the match still playing from the lacrima.

"First, with that Iron Enigma ass hole dealt with, pleasure to meet you. I think. I'm Damian Gerard, one of the guild's three S-Class wizards, though first to be chosen. That...might be better to have Master Jamie fill you in when she get's back. Anyways, I'm sorta kinda getting ready for a date tonight, but I guess if there's no one else here yet, it's fine for now. Just, uh, do me a favor and don't get seen."

Yes and what would winning a battle have got him? It wouldn't have proved that he was right and in fact it would have proved that he was wrong-that he wasn't willing to talk it out, and that the fact that they fought Marlene instead of talking her down was right. So. If you look at it that way, technically he is standing for his beliefs.

He wouldn't have used magic if he stayed, he just would have got his butt kicked. He knows he's not that good at combat. And that would have just shown that Gabriel is weak without his spirits. This way, he gets to stick to what he believed in with Marlene and show that Hunter is in the wrong.

Except that's not how it works. Hunter isn't wrong, anymore than Gabriel is wrong, but they have different approaches to how they're presenting their opinions. Hunter even explained why he was wanting to fight. Winning doesn't show that he's weak, and neither does loosing. The victory in fighting Hunter would have been the pair gaining a better understanding between the pair.

While it is a big step for Gabriel, keep how Hunter just explained himself to Gabriel in mind. What Gabriel just did shows to Hunter that he lacks the resolve to stand for his beliefs. And that even if he'd stayed, he lacks the confidence to do it without magic.

Hunter shook his head. "So you're insecure and a coward?! It's a wonder you got into Frenzy Plant if that's the case! And remember, no two people are alike, dumb ass!" The dragon roared at him and Hunter raised an eyebrow. "Look, you overgrown snake, I've seen a real dragon and he cut a much more striking appearance than you. In fact, he taught me how to KILL dragons, so you're aware, so I wouldn't try anything." He turned to the Oni and smiled sideways. "Well, let me know when the kid grows a spine and we can see what he's really made of. Hopefully it's sturdier stuff than hiding behind his spirits." And with that, he turns and disappears back into the crowd, hands in his pockets as he looks around for a good place to eat.

James stumbled back a step when he was suddenly cut off, trying to keep from crashing into the odd pair. When presented the sword, James shrugged. "A weapon's worth is determined when it's used in combat from what I've learned. Appearance isn't important unless it's proven faulty or effective."

It's not like he's going to use his magic. Action doesn't infer magic, but if Gabriel uses it, he's telling Hunter he's insecure and lacking self confidence. While it may not be true, that's what he'll see. Plus the taking it out of town is because he's a Dragon Slayer and Natsu kinda painted them as destructive.
