Inb4 @Weird Tales and @Jotunn Draugr and @j8cob come in with the Gawker Quinnspiracy and NYtimes stuff.

This some kind of back-handed bitching on your end?

Not sure why I'm tagged, or what you're on about.

Not directed at anyone on this site, rather someone I'm roleplaying with on another site. But...when you're trying to advance a plot or a certain group of characters forward in an RP and somebody just stops replying to it or removes their characters from the setting for no good reason and basically refuses to help the damn plot move forward >_<

I'm not sure if that player might have some issues with the RP or certain players that caused him/her to make such a move, so maybe talk to them and see what's the true problem behind that?

On the other hand, RPing with leeches who always take the back seat and not helping constructively to push the plot forward with the other players is really vexing. Like, if you'd rather be a spectator than a participant, then why are you joining the RP for?

Vice versa: when everyone has already advanced the plot forward, some guy suddenly came back from a long disappearance to force their character into the rising action in a cringe-worthy contrived way. Like, if they actually bothered to discuss with the GM and took the GM's advice to get their character back into the game in a logical, natural way, everyone would gladly welcome the player back... instead of doing the complete opposite, and made us wonder what the hell that BS post was about.

Another bitching but from a different RP site: not that I have an issue with melodramatic characters, but everyone is playing a brooding, angsty type that it's difficult to strike up any interesting conversation or character development with them, because all I keep feeling from their characters was to stay far far away from them and ignore their existence. Which I'd gladly do so since all their angsty shit is really making me bored with their childish depressing crap. Grow up already, dammit. (And it didn't help that I'm playing a child character due to the RP setup, and honestly no kid would want to deal with angsty teens and their petty emo nonsense.)

Well it's a 1x1 so no issues with any other players really, and they seem okay tbh because we talked about the plot and everything beforehand, and they're posting for other characters in other places and kinda moving the plot forward there but for some reason they refuse to post for other characters so we can move THEM forward which is just really annoying and a bit...weird O.o

Totally agree with all your other points as well though xD

That's really odd... If you guys have discussed things beforehand, then why is that player not doing the things that have already been discussed? Or to put it bluntly: what the hell is that player's problem? XD

Well, asked them about it and apparently they WERE "struggling with what to do because they just don't know where their characters are supposed to be or what they should be doing" and I'm kinda like "....well, did you expect me to just fucking telepathically sense that you had a problem with the plot direction?!" How in the hell am I supposed to know AND try to fix it if people don't open their damn mouths to say "I don't really like this RP the way it is atm"

Honestly T_T

That and I mean...am I supposed to spoon feed them the entire plot that we collaboratively discussed and I thought we had agreed on beforehand? *facepalm* sometimes I do wonder...

@Lalliman

You mention one of the primary problems that GMs must be careful of both in themselves and the players so no it's not weird

My pet peeve of late is when you're playing in a Super Hero group and someone basically plays a character who murders all the bad guys he/she faces thus calling into question of their claiming the title of a Hero

@Lalliman I don't think anyone isn't guilty of this. No matter how experienced or noob we are in the world and art of role-playing, most of us would, at some point, probably had the urge to create such a character... or even made such a character, whether we were aware of the act or not.

The bottom line is: who doesn't want to win? Who likes to lose?

And, as the saying goes: "Rules are meant to be broken."

Don't misunderstand my point. I'm trying to say that finding loopholes may be a tendency for some people, but everyone in the roleplay - both GM and the players - should communicate with each other to ensure a certain level of fairness among all playable characters submitted for the game that everyone can agree upon/come to a compromise of sorts. I don't think we can fully avoid such problems from arising in RPs where superpowers and/or magic are involved, so it's really down to the GM - and the players in the game - to sort this out among themselves.

I think the worst part is when they clumsily try to justify this by claiming it makes them "deeper" and "more interesting" than a straight-up hero. Which is odd, because I always figured that they were a bit... Non-interesting since unlike a straight-up hero who tries as hard as they can not to kill anyone, they don't have to make hard decisions like "if this villain stays alive and kills again, does this make me an accessory to murder because I let him live?" or something like that.

Every GM has their own way of accepting character sheets. With the exception of audition-based methods, I hate hate haaaate it when people who are applying to a roleplay DON'T READ THE CHARACTER SHEETS OF THE CHARACTERS THAT ARE ALREADY A PART OF IT and then proceed to make characters that are VERY similar to one that's already been made.

Character diversity is important to me. And while I think it's totally fine to have a few similarities between characters, it really bugs me when there's like 5 lolis and 5 tsunderes that all have the same backstory/personality/likes/dislikes/magical powers/etc.

I'm pretty sure these people aren't doing this intentionally, but I just don't know why you wouldn't consider the other characters and what they're like before going ahead with your own. Or maybe they are doing that and thinking "to hell with it-- I'll do what I want". I can't say I haven't been guilty of making a character that was really similar to another in the same RP, but that's only when I'm like 90% done with a CS and somebody else posts theirs before me. And even then, I go in and tweak my CS to make sure I'm properly differentiating my character from theirs.

While on the topic of not reading character sheets, there's a special place in hell for people that don't EVER read the CSs of their fellow ACTIVE roleplayers. I spend more time on my sheets then I do on 4 or 5 big posts combined. And I ALWAYS read and make an effort to get to know the other characters. I thought this was like common courtesy or something? Are there a lot of people out there doing this? Why??

5 tsunderes? That actually sounds kind of interesting.

"I-I just walked in on you by accident, n-not that I wanted to see you n-naked or anything y-y-y-you baka!"

"N-n-not like I wanted you to see me naked. I-i-i-idiot!"

Once more I see someone has posted a pet peeve of mine "High Casual/Low Advanced" in the casual section

Why don't I ever see that label in the Advanced section?

Probably because most people consider advanced to be the very highest you can go.

I mean, has anyone ever heard of a high advanced RP? How about a low free RP?

Then there's the larger pool of people who lurk casual.

I have actually seen a few games in Advanced tagged as 'low advanced' if it means anything.

I kind of figured that little bit of trivia out

It's just to me it seems it's either Free, Casual or Advanced any other label is a dodge

But as I said it's a pet peeve

@Undine

As I said it's only a pet peeve

I am aware that the casual section is place where the post run the gamut of skills it's just the label "High"

I admit that it's not a logical reaction just an opinion
