In all seriousness though, I was in that boat for ages, and then I went onto the advanced topic and found probably the coolest RP ever. Really just go for it, you won't regret it.

@Warborn123 Go for it dude, give it your all! I sat in high Casual for ages, not confident enough to creep into "Advanced" a little bit like you (though not with NRP), but I found an awesome RP partner and when we started out, I was making really teeny tiny two paragraph max posts

Now, nearly 18 months into the RP, we both regularly crank out posts of length between 1000-2000 words xD So don't be discouraged that you "can't post at that level", because you might find that once you push the boat out and get involved you will naturally start to write longer/better posts as a result :)

I like nations rp, atleast I think I do because I've literally never been able to join one because they're ALL ADVANCED, I know you guys like advanced rps, but would it kill you just to mix it up a little?, if variety is the spice of life, this is the exact opposite. I will never be able to join one unless I somehow become one of the worlds best writers.

Nation RPs by their very nature tend to take a more advanced avenue. Lower levels are accustomed to individual characters, and not making the split between individuals and many characters. An NRP, at least, as I approach it, involves taking in the perspectives of the people at large, as well as multiple people to present the events of a day to day country. Two paragraphs is fine when you run a single character. An NRP involves considerably more than that.

That said, I've participated in several of the casual NRPs that did pop up over time, and they failed even faster than the advanced ones.

not all advanced rps are slow as all hell mind you. Their was one who's name ive saldy forgotten but i do remeber it going bloody fast. Like post after post. that and the fact we got like 40 applicants. in the first few hours. Point is advanced rules. And it can go fast but if it goes as slow as every post a week people loose interest. especially if the ooc is somewhat dead. Hence the reason why this rp had a discord channel.

Was it the space one? I remember that one having a lot of applications at the start.

Going off topic from the rants, vents, and head banging... how do some of these RPs generate 40+ members with massive IC counts?

RPing or at least RPing done right in my humble opinion is a continual process of self-improvement. People like to imagine it like Bukowski's "so you want to be a writer?", but I'm sure most people here would agree it ain't like that at all. A lot of the times it takes blood, sweat, and copious amounts of alcoho,l but you get through it. Each post you learn a little bit more and maybe even more importantly with each post you read, you get better; for it is my humble opinion is only as good as the stories they've come to know. Cause a lot of it whether people like admitting it or not is a delicate art of stealing in a sense. Taking stylistic traits from others, things that you say are cool or awesome and incorporating it into your own writing. And in the end you have something that is distinctively yours somehow.

But, yeah the only person you are really hurting is yourself when you at least don't try. At the worst you may get rejected. And if that happens, you can do the thing that a lot of people have seen to forgotten and ask about it. I guarantee if you politely PM the GM, asking them why you got rejected a good one will be able to provide criticism to make yourself better. If they don't respond well they probably weren't worth the time anyway. But by pushing yourself and making a conscious effort to improve your writing you will get better. As Ronnie Coleman puts it "Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder, but nobody wants to lift no heavy ass weights." Everyone wants to be a better writer, but unless you put yourself out there it's never gonna happen.

And I'm sure the kind folks here can all tell you stories of how they improved. For example back in the day I was one of those people that wrote one liner posts gasp. Less brevity is the soul of with though and more I was just bad. And now well... Maybe I write too much at this point. lol But, that's the point I'm not perfect and nobody else is either. But that's the beauty of it since RPing is a collaborative art form we can all get better together.

Personally in my experience writing level wasn't my biggest concern when I was GMing. (Maybe, that is part of my own fundamental "upbringing" on the OldGuild back from a time when Advanced was a bunch of elitest shits. Which kind of turned me off the whole every post most be the great American novel method.) I was more concerned with the fact that does this person care, is this person going to give the story 110%. Cause I'd take the super excited guy that posts a solid three paragraphs every time over the super serious writer man any day. Cause RPs in the end are about doing something you love with loveable idiots.

And in the end there is one mantra you can just keep on telling yourself. "Fail Faster."



Anyway time to climb back up the mountain top. See you folks in another 2-3 months.

Okay, if you're in/running a fandom RP, and the best you can come up with for a character is "son/daughter/girlfriend/third cousin of canon character" then you need to try harder.

I can't stand when apart from arena or specific RPs where that's a gimmick a GM let's a PC kill another PC when neither have broken any rules. Also dislike when GMs give their characters more abilities unique races, etc. I was looking at what seemed to be a large Free RP, but the GM seemed terrible. They had Main Characters who were more less just the back bone of the story not the PCs, and had rules like no weird powers. Also a required anime picture of your character. I really hate GMs who make you provide pictures/drawings of your character. If you're not an artist it limits you to what you can find online. Just letting off some steam.
