Maybe Bart didn't actually have to act all the naturally, thought Gio as he strolled through the streets, stuffed with panicking people concerned with the far more present danger of the fire just down the street than any oddness that could have come from his time-displaced companion. Well it was kind of down the street. The fire that is. Was. It was a bit further and you hand to take a turn, but it was easily within walking distance. Well, not so easy considering all the people rushing to deal with the fire. But it was also a hassle to walk away from it. You had to slip through and shoulder past a lot of people. Really travel was just kind of a massive hassle either way.

Why couldn't Alicia have just waited a bit and simply asked to help investigate the scene of Peter's death? Sure Eve probably would have said no, but Nancy would have gotten interested and slipped out with her. At least in that instance there would be someone, almost trustworthy accompanying her, rather than only endangering herself by coming out more or less alone. George was also likely with her, but he had other things to do as well. If it were up to her, she probably would do her best to stick around until she had "gotten to the bottom of it."

Every five seconds, Gio would glance over his shoulder to make sure that dear Bart was still following him. It would do him no good if he managed to get lost so quickly. As he walked, he kept his hands stuffed into his pockets, his right hand clutched tightly around his pocketwatch. Should his charge end up not being in sight when he looked, it would be a mere doddle to activate The Watch and turn back time enough so that he could rectify whatever issue decided to crop up.

"I know it might be difficult, given the situation," Gio called out, offering early pointers for how to compose himself during missions, "But just do your best to relax whenever you're out and about. Getting riled up because of an unrelated event you happen to be around is a good way to end up panicking and making mistakes. A cool head is a rational head."

Gilbert & James

Location: Ville au Camp (Outside of the Kitchen House) * Ville au Camp (Outside of the Kitchen House) -> By the Oak
Skills: N/A

The smile dropped from Gilbert's face. It was just a second before it returned, but damage done - in that second, Gil looked rather insulted. In the second that followed, his shoulders relaxed and he forced himself to reassert his casual posture, like he usually had. He then removed his hat and addressed James. "Mr. Grady?" Now he was being formal. It made James a little uncomfortable after the last bit of time with Gil being creative and, well, strange. The sudden blast of insistence made him think that something was up, and at the same time glad that it wasn't aimed at him. He was curious about the nature of the conversation they were about to have, and at the same time he had been looking forward to the simplicity of something that passed for a regular conversation. "Mr. Grady, would you please bring the cart around to the Oak? It looks like everyone is meeting there now. Once everyone has something, do ask Miss Lucas where she wants it afterwards? I will join you in a few minutes."

"Mmm hmm." responded James, unsure as to whether or not he appreciated the tone of the request. However, he did take over the cart, careful not to slosh things too much. There was a fitting cover over the punch bowl, but it would do no one any good if the sodas (or did they call them phosphates now?) got all fizzed up. He barely heard the start of the conversation, finally deciding that he wanted nothing to do with it. Well, he was going to ask about it out of sheer, morbid curiosity, but right in that moment he was just fine waiting for the cliff notes.

After James had moved away a few paces, Gilbert turned to Sophia. "You are new here, Sophia. So please listen and bear with me." He then cast a glance over in Nancy's direction, "But you already know, Inanna. I do not use my abilities lightly. None of us are supposed to. I am not here to pull a metaphorical nor a literal rabbit out of a hat to amuse others. And I do not want my personal tools - most of which I made myself - used to prank anyone, let alone children." He set his fedora back on his head and nudged it to a mildly rakish angle. His lighter mood seemed to return, even. "You can find corn syrup and red food dye in the Kitchen House. Or ketchup. Take your pick. In the dark, I'd imagine a pie server or something similar might pass muster." He tilted his hat back to a more even set upon his head, then advised Sophia directly, "Come to me when you need something, Sophia. Not when you want something. We do it this way for good reasons."

Meanwhile, James was busy making his way over to the Oak, or nearabouts. The ground was fading from packed gravel to mostly even grass and fallen leaves. There were Paradoxes and local children present, each listening to stories or making commentary. The style of clothing (or God forbid, those costumes) was mostly unfamiliar to him. Strange, even. But the laughter of kids was something he had not experienced in a while. Being around kids that were free to actually have fun without worrying about making too much noise, lest they drew the attention of rotting, shambling, former people who were blindly intent upon eating them all. "Aight, y'all!" he called, the moment that there was an appreciable break in the stories, "Got us some of that good punch an' sodas over here! Little somethin' to wash all that Halloween candy down, hear? Y'all grownups get in on some of this, too! This here's the good stuff." He popped the cover from the top of the punch bowl and picked up the ladle. The faint scent of candied ambrosia wafted across the clearing. "One at a time, plenty for all. An' when we got them thirsties knocked out, ol' James got his own piece of story for all y'all, alright?"

"The punch is a non-alcoholic version of a beverage I call a 'Gingerbread-Man', Sophia." he said without a glimmer of his previous annoyance in his voice. "Some time soon, I will have to make you the real thing. It is an experience."

Gilbert opened his mouth to speak again when he suddenly stopped, throwing his attention back up the road leading to the Kitchen House. "I see that she has returned. Interesting." He motioned to a raven haired woman of extremely pale complexion who was approaching the gathering, and walked toward her with his arms open wide as to give a huge embrace between people very familiar with one another. "You... How was London, dearest? Foggy, eventful, tragic? You know that I can tell, but I love hearing the way you speak about your adventures so much more."

Alexandra Andonova

I'm a big child at heart. I think it's
important to stay that way and
not lose the wonder of life.

Location: Ville au Camp - Road to Main House ⇢ By the Oak Tree
Skills: N/A

Alexandra looked over her shoulder when The Hat's billowing voice came to her ears. She and the children hadn't ventured too far down the road, so they were still in earshot of the Kitchen House. A grin lit up her features, and she gave him an enthusiastic wave before shrugging her shoulders in reply. She wasn't exactly sure where The Dice lady wanted the refreshments. She bit her lip as she watched, okay admired, him for a moment.

"Wow! Is he a giant?" one of the children suddenly exclaimed, which effectively snapped her out of her little trance. Her head swung back over and then downwards to look at the small wide-eyed chilrden.

"Huh? Oh," she responded, blinking before the child's words finally permeated her brain. She let out a genuine chuckle. "Perhaps."

She gave one last appreciative glance in Gilbert's direction before putting her full attention back onto the children. A soft smile graced her features. "Nov I think I've told you enough about the treacherous Yagababa, on to another Soulless. Hov about the Hraew? Da, let's talk about that one. For one, they stink to high heaven because they're literally walking, rotting corpses," she continued on. For emphasis, she wrinkled her nose and waved her hand in front of her nose as if she smelled something nasty.

"They stink, metaphorically and literally. They also have a bad habit of biting people, and ultimately, they have a taste for human flesh, 'cause, you knov, they stink," she explained. She then shambled around the children, and with one overdramatic undead groan, she suddenly bent down and pretended to bite one of the children. Said child let out a scream before bursting out into a fit of giggles. Alexandra straightened back up with a wide grin as she let out a chuckle of her own. She looked down at them warmly, finding that she really enjoyed telling them stories and making them laugh. It brought her true joy, something of which she had felt deprived of for awhile now.

She looked back over towards the Oak Tree at the black-neck James's proclamation that the food was ready for the eating. The children let out cheers of happiness and as one freakishly dressed mob swarmed for him and the goodie cart. Apparently they liked food just as much as she did. She could appreciate that. "Vait! Vait for me! I can't run fast vithout shoes!" she called out to them, running as fast as she dared to on the gravel. Once her feet hit grass, she took off at a sprint in order to make up the remaining distance between them.

Bartholomew Rosecliff

Location: Cairo, Egypt
Skills:N/a

Bart's head jerked towards the direction of people running, smelling the smoke of the fire, and seeing the panicked look on everybody's faces. He fumbled through the streets, stepping to the side at awkward times, and trying everything he could to keep up with Gio and not trip up.He knew he shouldn't speak, but this was precisely the type of thing that'd been worrying him since their departure. It almost made him angry, the callous disregard for the lives at risk, even though they could very possibly do something to help. Bart didn't know anything about what he personally could do, but he was pretty certain time manipulation would help to stop a building from burning down. That was why, even though he was expressly told not to, he quietly asked Gio, "Why don't we lend a hand?" He asked quietly, concern ringing through. "Couldn't people get seriously hurt?" Bart frowned, his eyes drifting towards the fire.

Bart almost felt a little scared, going directly against an Gio's request, and you could very easily see that on him. Personal confrontation was not something he was used to at all, and was quite honestly something he went out of the way to avoid most of the time. He had a bit of a quiver in his step, and his hands found their way into his pocket, and he find his body hunching in a bit. He'd like to lie to himself and say he was sweating from the heat alone, but the stress of the situation was getting to him. He gave a heavy exhale, trying to force himself to keep his eyes on Gio, even if he was upset with Bart, he didn't want to get lost in Cairo. Still, he wouldn't be comfortable with himself if he let fear dictate his actions. He just didn't understand how Emendators, old as they were, could lack compassion with those in need. Did time make them all bitter? Or were there deeper, more fundamental issues outside the scope of his understanding. Either way, he couldn't stand by without at least saying something. If there really was something preventing them from meddling, he wanted to know what, or at least be told that there was some larger reason. He knew he was very much a newcomer to all of this, but he at felt as if he had to know the terms of his service with these people.

Evelina continued to give the faintest of smiles as people wandered in to the grounds. Greeting them as she must and directing them where to go. Answering the occasional question. She felt that Alicia would have been bored by now and she was right, the girls mind did tend to wander but Evelina figured that was just due to the womans youth. Granted to an Emendator most of those who walked the Earth were young. Save one or two distinct souls. One of which had returned to pay a visit. A rare one indeed.

At this time there were even a few who she was starting to say goodbye to. Humans were fickle like that. So much curiosity but it quickly vanished with boredom when what they were expecting to see did not occur. That was one of the main reasons Evelina invited the locals to see the grounds this evening. Sure they would get scared or a trick played on them but there were no "ghosts" - that was something she was adamant about. No "hauntings" were to be done. A ghost story sure, a haunting in the flesh no. This helped kill a lot of the rumors around the place. Many humans when they came to the grounds found little more than age. Figuring if the spirits did not present themself this evening, they were never around.

Evelina herself though, knew much better. The dead were everywhere. Some looking much more like a walking corpse than others. Alabaster skin was not really a tell tale sign but it did lend to enough rumors here and there. One such glanced towards Gilbert and gave a cold but sly smile as her pace stopped. Her hobble dress clinging to her tightly, it was a wonder she could breath in the thing. "Absolutely tragic darling. There is nothing quite like an English Summer in the midst of a Soulless Attack. The fog rolls in and the waters of the Thames are stagnant. It was truly lovely, very sensual," she said as she embraced the tall man and cupped his cheek. Her blood red nails running down his chin before looking about. "Would have been much more enjoyable hadn't a certain someone decided to butt in."

"What an interesting gathering our dear Lady Luck has brought forth this night. So many new souls. So much death. How delightfully tragic," she said as she laced her fingers together and began to look over each of those gathered at near the old oak. Her eyes lingered on Alexandra for a moment before wandering towards Andromeda. "I know that smell. The smell of death, decay, blood cuddling screams. It reminds me of my great aunt. Oh Salem made many mistakes but not with her. It was her opus, her swan song," she said as she looked towards Gilbert out of the corner of her eye.

"Where are the others? My dear Nancy, I have brought her something most interesting."

October 5th, 1924 - 12:05 a.m.
Cairo, Egypt

Alicia cringed as she rolled onto her back and drug herself to the wall so she could lean against it. Looking up she couldn't see the fire but she could smell it. She knew it wasn't good to have a fire in this town, or any larger town during this time. Fire departments were very equipped but there was nothing to be done about it. She was already crossing a line by even being here. One of the first thing she was told when she became a Paradox was to be careful. Meddling too much could mess up entire time lines. It was something that she, and everyone else was told when they arrived. Something the new Paradoxes were told as well already. The Destruere caused many problems, the main one was messing up time lines - it was something they fought against. She knew this, everyone knew this. If they wanted to forget it or ignore it, that would be their problem. She wasn't there to cause issues, just to look about and try to get back quickly.

Now she was injured, so that wasn't going to help. Yet she knew to stay low and not draw attention to herself. That meant getting patched up and out of there as quickly as possible. George was assigned this time line, this moment. He could handle himself. The man had dealt with a lot, even before becoming a Paradox. Reaching down she ripped part of the inner lining of her robes and started tearing it into strips. She needed to get her leg tied off quickly so she could pull out the wooden piece. Looking in front of her she cursed under her breath, a trail of blood was left from where she had jumped out of the way. She would need to clear that up quickly, before she became too much more light headed.

Sophia Harris

Location: Road Towards the Kitchen House.
Skills: N/A

Sophia looked over her shoulder towards Nancy and smiled slightly and nodded, she could get bored a little bit easily to herself as well, she had her moments back when she was alive and did her best to try and save people, like her girlfriend Niesha when they first met. Then her attention turned back towards Gilbert, she bit her bottom lip for a moment, she didn't really think at the moment that she was coming off as to demanding. And she was also new to the whole entire situation, she looked at the kids and everyone else tending to them she wasn't used to seeing everyone being really happy.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to be demanding or anything it wont happen again.." Sophia said towards Gilbert, as she looked back at Nancy for a moment, she cringed slightly mentioning real blood. She didn't really like the idea of using actual blood for their little show for the kids. "Yeah i'd rather go with ketchup, or corn syrup and red dye." Sophia listened to Gilbert as he mentioned what the drink that he and James had started to make. Which did sound pretty good in her opinion, and they also seemed to have an alcoholic version of it as well which she wouldn't mind trying at all. "I'd certainly like to try it, next time you make it." She said towards Gilbert as she looked over her shoulder towards a woman that Gilbert seemed to know.

Sophia couldn't really hear what she was saying due to the distance, and thought about using her ability, but then again she didn't want to go through the overload again either. That was pretty embarrassing earlier passing out in front of pretty much everyone and she wasn't really sure how to even use it either. She instead turned her attention over towards Nancy, figuring that she knew who she actually was and leaned closer towards her. "So whos the woman, another Paradox or something?" Sophia asked looking at the Emendator, or was she also one as well?

Faith Masters

Location: Oak Tree
Skills: N/A

Faith continued to entertain the children's questions. She was happy they were so curious about her and where she came from, but also a bit taken aback. This was a bit too easy. One of the children quickly spoke up, "So these Walker people. Are they bad?" One of the other children spoke back, "They sound bad." Faith had to take a minute to decide such matters. Were Walkers inherently bad? Sure, they killed without remorse, but did they have the mental capacity to understand what they were doing? She doubted it.

"I wouldn't call them bad, per se. They are dangerous, yes. But bad? Not so much." The children seemed ok with this answer, save for one. "So then are the people that kill them bad? Are you bad?" Faith stared at the child and he/she/it just turned its head as they stared at her. Soon the other children followed the gaze and looked at her. Faith had a moment to reflect. She had done some, admittedly, shitty things in her life before the end of the world. Even afterwards, but what else did she do? Did she roll over and accept death? No, she fought. And if that meant she was a bad person, then so be it.

"I think everyone has good and bad in them, at least to start. Like, how many of you have lied to get out of doing something you really didn't want to do?" Many of them nodded and raised their hand. "Right, but then how many of you have helped your parents out? Or told them you loved them?" The children nodded again. "See? Good and bad. Where I am from, we have to do things others may look at as bad, but that was just what we had to do to survive. So does that make me bad? I don't know."

Before she could continue morality lessons, the boar dude called for refreshments. The kids quickly cheered and ran to him to accept their treats. Faith followed suit and quickly noticed the new addition. The woman talked oddly, but then again that was par for the course here. Was she an Emendator? She spoke about death so casually.

Faith liked her!

"So what's next on the agenda? The kids were actually fun to talk to. Are we doing something with the weird one here?" She asked, referencing the new woman who appeared.

Nancy Parker

Location: Ville au Camp - Road to Kitchen House // Oak Tree
Skills: None

Nancy rolled her eyes at Gilbert, but on the inside she was seething. She hated being called Inanna. It only served to remind her of a life she wished she could have forgotten - the husband and his pathetic friends and the crime they almost had succeeded in committing. Her eyes were flashing with fire as she looked at Gilbert, before instructing him in clear and rapid Sumerian to never call her by that name. It only brought up painful memories for her, part of the reason she had such a strained relationship with Gilbert. He reminded her too much of her life in Uruk. She seemed to have caught Gilbert's annoyance, but it melted away once she saw the newcomer and Nancy couldn't help but grin.

"Have you ever met a Crypt before?" Nancy asked Sophia. "They're one of my favorite bloodlines - and you're looking at the source," she answered, forgetting to respond to Sophia's question as to whether the woman was a Paradox. She was impulsive and chaotic, her mind jumping from point to point without slowing down. She missed things like that on occasion. Nancy would have argued it was only human of her, but she wasn't human at all - she was an Emendator. And likely the poster child for ADHD. "Come on, I'll even introduce you, Sophia," Nancy offered, before she skipped over to the newcomer.

"Hello there, stranger," Nancy said with a huge grin, looking at her. She once had considered trying to use an image of her for the Magician or High Priestess card, in a custom set where all of the illustrations would be replaced with people Nancy knew. Drem and Evelina were going to be the Lovers; Giouse the Emperor; and Glibert Strength. There were a bunch of Paradoxes that Nancy had considered for other positions, but she had never got around to the project - never felt quite in the mood to work on it.

Andromeda Aldrich

Location: Ville au Camp - Near the Oak Tree
Skills: None

It wasn't too long until Andromeda lost her audience, as the prospect of sugary drinks won the children over and they flocked over towards James. She didn't mind, smiling slightly even before she noticed the newcomer. Andromeda frowned slightly, recalling a woman of a similar description her half-brother, Walter, had told her about. He had gone to visit a witch in Altsoba, prior to unleashing the devil and causing so many in that small town to perish. Walter never said if the witch herself had survived the flames and destruction - but Andromeda knew that most didn't. Could she have died? Was she looking at someone who knew her brother?

Yet Andromeda wasn't certain - it could have been entirely coincidence. Not every woman with deathly pale skin and dark hair was the same - she herself would have been slightly irritated if someone assumed she had to be another person they knew that was albino. It would have been silly to assume she was the same woman, when all of time and space seemed to converge here in terms of those who had perished. Yet it continued to bug her and she made her way over to the woman, her curiosity driving her actions. "...I am so sorry if this is not the case, but do you know a Detective Walter Hanson?" Andromeda asked.

Giosue Zino

Location: Cairo, Egypt
Skills: N/A

Gio noted in his head that Bart decided it was a better idea to disregard what he'd been told and instead, ask him a bunch of questions rather than focusing on the matter at hand of not falling behind in the crowd and ending up becoming lost in a burning Cairo. There were many such ways the emendator could have chosen to answer the cliches thrown his way, but a better thought occurred to him: don't reply any way whatsoever. The boy had no authority over him whatsoever, the questions didn't interest him in any way whatsoever, and he had no other external factors that made him beholden to respond to Bart. So he didn't.

Bartholomew probably wouldn't like being utterly ignored, but he'd just need to keep a stiff upper lip and deal with it. If he were to stick around, he'd have to go through far worse than simply not having an immediate answer for problems whose answers he could probably think through himself given a bit of time and effort. But that was the thing. People didn't like to be kept waiting, or having to come up with solutions themselves. They'd rather just leave their problems at the foot of others.

"Speaking of problems," Gio said, vocalizing what had before been simple internal dialogue, "it appears as though you've been quite busy, Signorina Gonzalaz." He stepped over and around the debris to kneel right next to her. Ouch, that wound had to hurt. Or not. Shock and/or adrenaline had probably set in so she probably wouldn't be feeling it as much as she would tomorrow morning. Well, the functional equivalent of tomorrow morning. Giosue returned to standing and offered both hands to her so she could stand up without having to put any weight down on her injured leg.

"Come, let's not waste time. We'll be able to better patch you up at Camp." Under normal circumstances, he would have given her a lengthy lecture about how she should know better about running off alone on a whim. But her injury, the fire off in the distance and the mouthy Bart all made him not all too keen on sticking around here any longer than was strictly necessary. Assuming Evelina didn't give her an immediate earful when they returned to Camp au Ville, Gio would once Alicia had been properly treated. But that would be later.

Gilbert Summers, "The Hat"

Location: Ville au Camp (Outside of the Kitchen House)
Skills: N/A

An eyeroll without further comment from Nancy meant that Gilbert had probably crossed a line. He could generally count on her for some manner of pithy insight or verbal poke, but it was possible that referring to her using one of her original names was probably a line cross, considering that she was very likely treated as property at that time. Or worse. What was more telling, to him anyway, was that he was once part of that society, hell, ruled that entire civilization for a time, and a lot of that was before he awoke as an Emendator. He had been one of the very people with those exact views that seemed so fleeting and juvenile to him now.

It was a cumbersome tongue in comparison to the more modern ones, Sumerian, with words modifying the meanings others instead of the simpler issue of altering a word to suit a more specialized purpose. It was also the first one that both Gilbert and Nancy learned in the history or their existence. Gilbert was a bit of a linguist, as indeed they all had to be, given their massive and varied histories, but he had not spoken his original language in a very long time. So when he began to respond to her in Sumerian, there was the slightest pause until he reawakened the physical memory of it within him. Even so, he kept it short, sweet, and to the point, spoken with hat in hand:

It would have to suffice for the meantime. There were new Paradoxes about that they had to show a united front with, not to mention the locals were in full force, each dressed in their odd little costumes, wide-eyed and curious. Gilbert was fairly positive that the line overstep might be answered in some way later on. Hopefully his more laid back attitude and social philosophy would be enough to avoid any further retributive strikes and end the cycle before it began in earnest. Besides, so far as practical jokes were concerned, he was a rank and file amateur in comparison to the slightly younger Emendator. The closest thing to a prank he could muster on short notice was a nasty trick he picked up in Asia involving a deep hole and sharpened bamboo. Too far. Way too far.

His responses to Sophia were significantly more sedate and sociable, however, consisting of a casual wave-away of her own apology. "No need, Sophia. No need at all." His smile was really rather infectious. "Tomorrow. We start the good stuff then - and a lot more explanation about our rules."

Gilbert did have the courtesy to return the enthusiastic (one might even be persuaded to say "giddy") wave from Alexandra. The thought suddenly hit him that she was the one James was referring to back in the Kitchen House, about a girl who wasn't fond of wearing shoes, or some such comment that Gilbert just realized was sarcastic. He thought that... well, nevermind what he thought. Mystery solved, moving on. He might want to have a little talk after a bit, however.

What did give him a genuine bit of delight was the wholly unexpected return of the slender yet still hourglassed lady with the unlikely natural combination of alabaster skin and ebon hair, suggesting a truly exotic background. Then again, so did her manner of speech. Not extremely surprising to a man like him, seeing as his own ethnic group technically didn't even exist anymore. Well, with one other exception, anyway. Still, the eccentricities of the new woman only served to heighten his mood. Her presence in the timelines gave him a sense of hope: She was a woman who, purely because of who she was, affected humanity in ways unexpected and highly exciting. She had begun bloodlines of persons most notable, highly skilled, and thoroughly impassioned in ways that the powerful Emendator had not previously found in himself outside of battle. There was even a twinge of jealousy, if he were honest with himself. If nothing else, he did highly admire the woman. "I understand that you must have business, but please join me for a drink before you must depart again."

Gilbert slipped his hat back upon his head and stuck his hands into his pockets. He casually checked the time on an antique pocketwatch, and looked over to the gathering of children and Paradoxes near the Oak. It was always good to see the young and the living. So much potential. So much unrealized power and tragedy. The future of humanity rested in souls like those crowding around James and their laden cart of sugary delights. It was the reason why he took a hiatus from warring. Ironically, it was now the reason why he fought, and taught others to as well. Sometimes, he wondered what Gilgamesh would have thought about himself, now that he was Gilbert; what kind of a man he had become. He probably wouldn't have liked the man one bit, except for his prowess in combat. But thinking about it, Gilgamesh was referred to in story and later in literature as "The Ultimate Warrior". And the experience he had acquired since then assured him that Gilbert could mop the floor with the guy anyway, so to hell with what Gilgamesh thought. He was a better man now, anyway.

James Grady

Location: Ville au Camp (By the Oak)
Skills: N/A

Meanwhile, James was in (pun intended) hog heaven. He didn't particularly like children before, but it really did his heart good to see these little boys and girls run toward him in a state of utter glee, not worrying about things like keeping quiet so as to not attract the Dead to their location. No worries about a storm wrecking their only means of growing food for the next season, either. Damn, but it felt good. "Aight y'all! Come one, come all, get you somma this. There we go..." James busied himself distributing the waxed paper cups and ladled out the aromatic punch, occasionally stopping to pop open a soda bottle or give out a napkin. They were good kids, it looked like. Then again, he was the guy passing out sweets at night before sending them back to their families, so maybe in this scenario he was really the bad guy and the young'uns were flocking to him, sensing his minor foray into evil. Or just the goodies. Probably just the goodies.

One thing that had escaped his notice until just then was the nature of the women who now existed in the place, Ville au Camp, with him. Though he was loath to admit it to anyone but himself, he did rather have a pressing appreciation for women who were stark in manner and appearance, particularly as it applied to the macabre. In short, it had been many a year since he had seen a lady that he might have referred to as "Goth", and he remembered that appreciation suddenly. His mind ticked through the women that fit that particular nom de guerre in his immediate vicinity, and suddenly gathered a greater liking for how he was spending his (almost) afterlife. For starters, there was the Emendator, Nancy. Just a hint of a stretch there, they hadn't really spoken much but he could sense something a little gothy. His Goth-dar, if you would, his Gothy Senses were tingling. But it didn't stop there. There was a charmingly pale lady (that he didn't think he had said a word to directly) that absolutely fit that description and attitude to a T, the pale and tragic Andromeda. He would have to introduce himself and risk an immediate shutdown later on. Such was life. Or death. Or whatever being a Paradox meant. But Paradoxes aside, he could not help but realize that the Dice Lady fit that description as well, if she was a touch more authoritative than he was ordinarily drawn to. And from what he understood, both she and Nancy were a little older than him as well. Like, a few thousand years older. Perspective was a bitch sometimes.

But no, these were kept internal for the time being. It was just... such an odd thing to think about right then. It seemed that only yesterday he was in the middle of some awful stuff, murdering and dying and whatnot, that now with this fresh start he would be thinking about what kind of women he liked before an apocalypse took out most of humanity. He was just going to content himself with serving drinks to everyone and remember that he was very recently dead. He should try to keep his existence as simple as possible for a while, until he got a better grip on things. Also, he promised the kids a story later, which he intended to keep.

Then his eyes fell upon another newcomer in a slinky black dress that looked like she was taken from a cover of a symphonic metal album, or a Self Help book for women who wanted to be able to stop a city bus with a sustained glare. She seemed to be getting a lot of attention, and he did not want to be that guy, so he merely did as any self-respecting Southerner would have done at that point in time.

"Hey hey there, Miss Lady! Y'all wantin' a Coke or somethin' else sweet to sip on?" He inquired as politely as his upbringing allowed him, raising a glass bottle full of the fizzy ambrosia into the air and waving an opener in the other. He had to quickly set it back down to handle one of the children's request for a refill on punch, but the offer was out there. It was probably best that he let his thoughts remain thoughts for the time being, anyway. He had to mentally arrange a tale in a little bit.

Bart didn't like being ignored, but for him to pretend for even a second that he was by any metric brave enough to continue to question Gio would be a gross misrepresentation of the truth. He shook his head, and figured he might find a way to more tactfully look for concrete answers. In the mean time, all he could, and should focus on was getting out of this heat and finding Alicia. He looked at Gio, trying to get a read on the Emendator, see if he was angry or upset with him at all. If anything, he looked slightly annoyed, which Bart considered to be least unfavorable outcome. That didn't mean of course, that he would press thew issue. It was about this time, that he finally did speak, causing Bartholomew to jump a little where he stood. He was initally confused by his words, but that subsided when he saw her.

There she was, up against the wall, with a plank digging deep into her side. He cringed, look away for a second while Gio rushed over to her. Swallowing hard, he steadied himself, and got on Alicia's side, gingerly kneeling down next to her, ready to help get her up when she was ready. "I-I'm sorry." He said looking between Gio and her, "Tell me how best to help, I uh..." He looked back at Alicia's eyes, not usually somebody to be uncomfortable around blood, but the extremity of the situation was frankly almost too much for him. "I've never been around anything like this." He could smell the metallic scent of her blood, even if he was actively look away from it at this point. He felt dizzy, trying to keep focused, but finding it too abhorrent to manage. He looked for anything to distract himself, his discomfort almost palpable.

Bart's mind briefly flashed back to one of his college days. The closest he'd even been to something like this, was when he found a student at the bottom of a stairwell, having apparently taken a spill. The kid was bleeding out of his forehead pretty bad, and he ended up with a concussion, but that's wasn't half as gory as this. Alicia looked like something out of a movie, at least to him. If there was one thing he knew, however, it was that throwing up right now would have been the worst possible thing, from the threat of contamination, to the sheer annoyance he would surely elicit from the two of them if he showed such weakness. He just tried to steel himself best he could, and force himself onto autopilot, just needing to get the three of them back to camp as soon as he could.

Alexandra Andonova

I'm a big child at heart. I think it's
important to stay that way and
not lose the wonder of life.

Location: Ville au Camp - Near the Oak Tree (Refreshments Table)
Skills: N/A

"Ah, kids after my ovn heart," Alexandra sighed. She watched with a soft smile on her face as the children stuffed various sweets into their mouths with wild abandon. She had admittedly grown rather fond of them. In many ways, they reminded her of herself, their love of life, their energetic ways, their curiosity, their innocence...

Her smile faded some at that last notion. She wasn't as innocent as she used to be, and she knew it. The brutal murder of her parents and the strong presence of the ravenous Soulless back in her old timeline had ripped apart what innocence she had into a million pieces. She was left grasping at those pieces for even a semblance of her old self, but it was hard to put together a puzzle when so many pieces were lost. Maybe that was why Alexandra herself was the epitome of wild abandon, because she was broken and she knew it. So, basically she said "oh well" to being a normal human being and decided to embrace the brokenness and to give it new life and a new meaning.

She shook out her body in a metaphorical attempt to shake off the melancholy that was creeping up before raising her chin and striding over to the refreshments table. She gave James a sweet smile before looking down at the assortment of goodies. Her eyes widened slightly, and her mouth watered. There were so many options! How would she ever decide upon just one thing? Oh, she knew the solution to that question. Don't. What a great idea! She opted to try literally one of everything. She leaned back against the table and let out a moan of pleasure at the savory goodness. "Oh-this-is-so-go-od," she mumbled with her mouth full, glancing over at James. It would seem his attention was elsewhere though. Well, more for me then. She shrugged it off and continued to dig into the sugary food and drinks. Currently, food was her number one priority if you couldn't tell.

With Evelina tending to the front gate, it allowed the new woman to have a few moments with the other present Emendators as well as all these lovely new Paradoxes. Her ebony eyes turned slowly as Faith spoke, a single thin brow rising into a deep arch. "I would hope so. Normal is overrated. Though, one will find that what is normal for the spider is chaos to the fly. I do enjoy a bit of chaos." Her voice was cool as she spoke. Not in a traditional sense where it could leave one worried they had done something wrong but as if it was just a chilly feeling as words left her lips. As if death was speaking.

Seeing Nancy, the womans eyes seemed to twinkle with moonlight as she stepped towards her. Tiny steps due to the hobble dress which kept her legs bound to the knees. "Nancy, darling. Why don't you look positively sinful this evening," she said as she reached into the breast of her dress and pulled out a small golden relic. "I was in Denmark and came across this lovely little item. I say, they did not capture your mischievousness as well as they could but it is such a difficult thing to pin down," she said as she cupped it in the palm of her hand, her slender fingers opening to reveal it and offer it to Nancy.

"Oh my yes. Hanson, tis been some time since we have spoken," she said as she stood there, awaiting for Nancy to take the small trinket she had collected in her travels. Her eyes had not left Nancy, even as others spoke. Even as the offer of a drink was given. "Dry as the desert on a hot day, something cold, blood curdling if you would. Gilbert knows what I enjoy don't you darling," she said with a slight curl pulling at the corner of her lips.

October 5th, 1924 - 12:05 a.m.
Cairo, Egypt

Alicias hand slowly released from the plank of wood it was wrapping around as her eyes fell onto Gio. Okay, the sound she had heard wasn't someone or something coming to attack her. Granted she was not dumb enough to think Gio wouldn't attack her, or actually a better word would be reprimand her for sneaking off he way she did. Thing was, he didn't. Which worried her a bit. She knew it would be coming but since he wasn't doing it right now that left a queazy feeling in the pit of her stomach. At least if he had done it now, it would have been over and done with. Since he was waiting she had a feeling she would be getting one hell of an ear full when she got back. If not from him, from Evelina, even Gilbert. Nancy she doubted would have cared other than to tell her she was ticked she wasn't invited to run off.

The fact there was a Paradox there surprised her. What in the world was Bart doing there? He had just shown up this morning! Paradoxes never left the grounds this quickly! She had to sit and train for months before she had been let out for a simple mission. This was interesting and she could feel that he wasn't handling the situation well. Her empathy kicking into high gear. The poor thing wanted to throw up. She did to, blood loss was never fun. At least her memories of it in the past hadn't been. Sighing she nodded but she didn't reach up just yet. Finishing tying off the strip of cloth tight until she felt it would cut off the circulation for a bit she yanked out the piece of wood. "Hijo de las mil putas!!!" she grunted. That hurt like hell to say the least. Spitting off to the side she pushed her hair out of her face.

"Yeah, let's get the fuck out of here," she said as she reached out and grabbed a hold of Gios hand with her left and Barts hand with her right. A quick yank and she pulled herself into a hopping standing position, with a huge yelp of pain as she did. She felt a tingling her in her body. A dizziness. It seemed to flow from her right hand and up her arm, down to her core before spreading through out the rest of her body. "Ugh...what the shit..." she muttered.

Faith Masters

Location: Oak Tree
Skills: N/A

Faith sipped her drink as she listened to the woman spoke. It was like something out of an Edgar Allen Poe book. Not only was the woman breathtaking to look at (if you know what I mean!) but the way she spoke begged questions she was sure would never receive answers. She wondered what this woman was about. Surely if she was here, it was for a purpose.

'Oh, I like you. I like you a lot." Faith said with full intention. She could have done without the spider and fly comparison, but still, she was fascinated. She wanted to know more. "I seem to be out of the loop and I do hate being left out of things. If you do not mind me asking, who exactly are you?" Faith turned towards the woman, while also keeping an eye out at the others, making sure she was not overstepping boundaries.

But then again, when the fuck did she ever care about that?

Sophia Harris

Location: Road Towards the Kitchen House.
Skills: N/A

"I look forward to tomorrow then." Sophia said towards Gilbert and gave him a slight smile, as her attention turned towards Nancy when she told her the woman's name was. She simply shook her head, she had never heard of the Crypts before so she didn't have the slightest clue on who she was at all. "Nope I cant say that I have heard of the Crypts before honestly." Sophia said as she decided to follow Nancy over towards the growing group that was surrounding the Oak Tree, that she had just woken up earlier that day. Sophia kept her distance as she eyed the kids as well as her fellow Paradoxes that were there. She also decided to keep her left arm somewhat hidden behind her back, since her prosthetic hand looked different from her real one.

Her eyes wondered over towards James and the cart full of drinks, she would certainly get one later or find something else at a later point in the evening. It was more for the guests after all, as Sophia moved a bit closer towards Nancy she eyed Andromeda as she asked the pale woman if she knew someone named Detective Hanson. Which she didn't know who that was either, most likely a sibling or lover of some kind, or maybe a friend of hers when she was alive. The woman did seem to know who Andromeda spoke about, which did get her a bit curious as well. And the way she spoke also did seem to be very weird to her, it didn't make her uncomfortable or anything to Sophia it just felt like it was off to her.

As the woman turned her attention towards Nancy she pulled something out, and stared at the small golden little trinket that she kept hidden away. She leaned slightly over and started to get a closer look at it, mentioning it was a representation of Nancy herself in some old time. Which did make her very curious, Sophia was about to speak up and Faith managing to beat her to the question that she was about to ask. Sophia knew her last name when Nancy mentioned it a few seconds ago, however she didn't know exactly beyond that at all.

Nancy Parker & Andromeda Aldrich

Location: Ville au Camp - Near the Oak Tree
Skills: None

Nancy just nodded at Gilbert, returning his brief exchange in Sumerian with one of her own1:

She didn't speak in Sumerian very often, yet she often would think in it, as much as she wished it was otherwise the case. It was an old habit, given that it was the tongue she learned before she became conscious of what she was: an Emendator. She then glanced over at Sophia, feeling a bit disappointed on her behalf. She hadn't encountered a Crypt in her timeline? She couldn't help but be mildly shocked. The death and decay in Georgia would have appealed to one that came to mind in particular, though she supposed she could always make the suggestion to her. If she was here, she doubted the other one would be too far behind. Or ahead. Just a matter of perspective.

"Well, the Crypts are easily the best bloodline I've ever encountered," Nancy explained to Sophia, not giving any sort of qualification as to where that statement came from. She then grinned as she received the small trinket. She always adored getting brought gifts from different times and places. In fact, it was often something she requested whenever someone left the loop - that they bring something back for her. "Oh, you shouldn't have," Nancy commented, accepting it and looking it over. "Maybe one of these days they'll get it right...Though I do like the portrayal of me in some of the 21st century films."

Andromeda however was just looking at her with wide eyes. So she was the woman that her brother had spoken so much about. "So you were there, then...At Altsoba..." Andromeda said, not meaning to be rude and dismiss the questions others had, but it was blowing her mind. She hadn't met very many people who had survived the tragedy of Altsoba. In fact, if memory served, she only knew five in her lifetime. An unbeknownst to her, all five had died not too long after she had. "Sorry, I'm...I'm Andromeda Aldrich, Walter's half-sister," she then explained.

She wasn't too keen on voicing out loud that her brother had summoned the devil, though she was curious to know if the Emendators had been aware of that. Or if it had been something that they weren't supposed to interfere in, something that was just supposed to happen, meant to be. She then glanced around, knowing that Walter had said the witch he visited was rather keen on family. Had Walter met Paradoxes and Emendators before? Were some of these people present at Altsoba when the world nearly ended?

Gilbert Summers, "The Hat"

Location: Ville au Camp (Outside of the Kitchen House)
Skills: Hard/Soft Martial Arts

A broad, warm grin spread across Gilbert's face. He made a sweeping gesture with his hands as he bowed at the waist, letting his long, dark hair fall from behind his shoulders. He kept his piercing green, almond shaped eyes on the pale lady, more than lightly pleased at her presence yet curious (to the point of being wary) as to the reason for it. If it was merely a cursory visit to catch up with an couple of her long-term (and that's long-term) friends and associates, then so be it. He could use the company and the unique perspective that she had to offer. But first, she had a request. Be it that she made the request while in conversation with his protege for the evening, Mr. James Grady, it was apparent that the actual words were meant for him:

Gilbert knows what I enjoy, don't you darling?

"Yes, Madame." he responded with a playful tone, "Yes, I do. One moment, if you would please." Indeed all it would take was a single moment, evidenced by the fact that Gilbert found himself jogging from his position back into the Kitchen House. Within a cabinet located over the icebox, he pulled a tall tumbler glass and a cardstock box that, by the way he handled it, contained weighty but precious cargo indeed. He opened the top door of the appliance and struck a solid block of ice with his bare fist, a concentrated blow that imparted a seemingly unnatural amount of very specific pressure into the mass of frozen water. At first, nothing happened, but very soon, cracks began to form from the point of impact, spiderwebbing out in an almost symmetrical pattern. He reached in and pulled the largest few of these shards out, clinking them into the tumbler so as to irregularly fill the glass with jagged triangles of ice, lightly wafting frozen vapors into the atmosphere.

Swift feet carried Gilbert, glass, ice, and bottle back out to where everyone was gathering, most of the adults vying for the attention of their newest guest. Gil uncorked the bottle and poured a generous libation, describing it offhand as, "Extreme flavors of peat and earth, rich and sensuous sensations of moss and other elements of dark cherry and roses, though not so much as to distract from the decay which births this amazing whisky. If you would do me the honor of accepting my glass, it is as you have requested; dry, cold, and enough to curdle the blood if you are not used to it." He held it out to her, presenting it as one might a trophy or piece of fine jewelry.

"Understand, this does not count as that drink I requested later on." He punctuated his sentence with a wink.

James Grady

Location: Ville au Camp (By the Oak)
Skills: N/A

James realized that he was staring. He had tried to stop a couple of times now, but once the pre-apocalypse memory of his social and personal preferences got hold of him, he knew that a cold shower would be necessary in order to get something akin to fitful rest that evening. Yeah, he was being stupid. A typical guy, anyway, which was sometimes synonymous with stupid. Particularly as it came to women. He was usually pretty good about that, though. Gentlemanly in his own way, be it in a rustic manner slanted by the culture of his birth. For the most part, he was a really decent guy.

It wasn't until the other Paradoxes began to help themselves to the wonder and spiffiness of the refreshments cart, even going so fa as to speak to him, that he fully snapped out of it. "Aw damn, Miss Alex... I'm sorry. Done got myself all distracted and whatnot." He began loading up the displaced Russian lady with various odds and ends. "Now, I'm sho' glad you takin' a interest in our cartload of sweeties, here." He turned to face Alexandra, face offering a touch of humility, "But I can't be takin' most the credit on that punch, now. All that's from Mr. Hat's kitchen, right? He sure do make a damn fine bowl of punch, don't he? Ooh, try one o' these." he said, changing the subject abruptly. "They gots the coconut." He gave Alexandra a big smile and nodded vigorously. Apparently, there was still a bit of a kid in him, though it rarely showed anymore.

Giosue Zino

Location: Cairo, Egypt
Skills: The Watch: Act I (Time Portals)

In his head, Giosue noted that Bart dropped the topic when he didn't receive any answers. He could think of a few reasons for this. The kid realized that he wasn't going to get answers just from demanding them and wizened up a bit. He lacked the testicular fortitude to continue pressing the issue. He decided to try figuring out the answers for himself rather than trying to be spoon fed every important bit of information he could come across about his new job. These all carried with them their own set of character judgments, some more positive than others, but he'd leave the analysis there and give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

One other thing about Bart he picked up was squeamishness from simply seeing a significant, but not all that extreme leg wound. And a calf wound at that. Those with soft stomachs usually ended up having a really tough time initially. The things that you happened to see just going through history eyes open, not even looking for them were far, far worse. Bad times ahead for poor Bart. If he got really unlucky, his power would end up being something like making heads explode.

It would be a problem if that was actually his power and if manifested uncontrolled.

Feeling Alicia suddenly lurch from dizziness, he put in more strength in his grip to support her ability to stand. He didn't want to have to carry her directly into Ville au Camp like a partygoer that had had too much fun that night, but he would if he had to. Or he'd have Bart do it. Although... Gio gave the Paradox another look over. He wasn't all that sure he'd be able to carry her. Didn't seem like the most physically empowered of men. Maybe one of the skills that was thrust upon him was weight lifting. But that was all auxiliary thoughts. The primary goal was to as Alicia so eloquently put it: get the fuck out of here.

Not bothering with looking for a doorway or similar such gateway this time (traveling through time and space being somewhat more uncomfortable and jarring was something Bart could deal with), Gio dug into his pocket with his free hand. He produced the Watch and promptly opened up a time portal on a nearby wall. Once the way out was open, he'd help his injured mark and naive ward make their way back to Camp.

As the sugary goodness melted in her mouth, Alexandra similarly melted back against the refreshments table. If all the food in Ville au Camp was this delicious, she would surely eat them out of house and home. If she knew herself and her propsenity to shove insanse amounts of food into her face hole well enough, she would surely end up in a food coma before the night was up. With that in mnid, it was probably good that she had a high metabolism, otherwise she would be rounder than a house by now. Not that she would really care if she was. Psh, like whatever.

When James's words hit her ears, her currently unfocused gaze swung over to look at James."Hmmm," she mumbled with her mouth still full of food. I know right, oh so ladylike. She blinked a few times to snap herself out of her daze before her dark brown eyes finally focused on the man before her. She swallowed her food before a warm smile came to her features. "No vorries, Mr. Grady," she replied, shrugging off his apology. It was really no big deal to her that he found himself momentarily distracted. After all, she could attest to getting distracted from time to time. Okay, a lot of times actually, but that was beside the point.

A look of genuine appreciation crossed her features as James began pilling up a plate full of the yummy sweets. Her eyes seemed to follow each piece as it made its journey from the table to her plate. She may have also been drooling, just touch though. She looked back up at him with a bright glitter to her eyes. "Thanks!" she exclaimed before glancing back down as he pointed out a specific piece. "Don't mind if I do." She gladly took the piece and popped it into her mouth. She soon let out a happy moan, even bouncing on her feet lightly. "Mmm, it is good!"

Bartholomew Rosecliff

Location: Cairo, Egypt -> Ville Au Camp
Skills: Healing (Involuntary)N/a

Given the direction he asked for, Bart nodded, before feeling his hand go warm, and a light tingle in the back of his skull. Feeling uncomfortable with this, he closed his eyes and made a face, very vaguely reminded about the symptoms of shock, but that didn't quite make sense. Just wanting to get out of the heat, and back to camp. He looked at Gio expectantly, unsure if they'd need to go back to their point of origin, or how this worked at all, but was pleasantly surprised when the camp appeared on the wall near them. He felt like he could maybe bring Alicia to the portal on his own, but he was thankful for Gio's help nonetheless. Happy to be almost done with this ordeal, he got himself ready to get back to camp. In the back of his head, he wondered if he'd have a chance to sit and talk with The Watch over the concern he levied before finding Alicia. Taking a quick look at Gio, he nodded and got a move on.

Taking a moment to reflect, this wasn't the worst thing in the world. He didn't like the idea of dealing with injuries on a regular basis, blood not at all something he was a fan of, but hey, maybe every mission wouldn't be like this, and even if it was, he wouldn't go on every one. He took a look over at Alicia's leg, noticing the bleeding stemming off. "Huh." He said, He guessed Paradoxes healed a little faster than normal humans, Evelina did mention that death didn't come as easy to them. A useful side effect, he considered. Didn't mean he'd be going around getting himself stabbed, but it was nice to think that there was a bit of insurance on the second chance of 'life'. He stepped through the portal, breathing a sigh of relief as he felt the considerably cooler air of a Halloween night.
