Interaction: Cousin, Max Wallenburg @spooner
Location: Kennedy Residence

In the week since they'd moved back to their old neighborhood, Dani hadn't made much headway with arranging her room, or even completing the simple task of emptying out all the boxes in her room. In fact, most of her clothes were still packed away, too. She'd set aside a duffle bag with enough clothes for the first week at school that she was so unwillingly thrown into the day after their arrival. For the most part, Dani kept a low profile and went straight home after school. She'd managed to run into a few new faces and made a some potential new friends. It hadn't seemed too bad, although Danielle still felt a bit 'meh' about being uprooted and dropped into a whole new school in the second semester of her senior year.

To make things worse? Her mom and aunt insisted that she go to the school's Valentine's Day Dance with her cousin Max, as the two didn't have dates. Not that she minded Max at all, she actually loved her cousin. It was just not something she would have orchestrated herself. I mean, kinda embarrassing to go to a high school dance with a family member, no? All these thoughts kept circling Danielle's mind as she got herself ready, engaging in conversation with her mother from time to time who had taken up residence on Dani's bed while she sped around the room.

Danielle stood in front of the mirror with a hard expression across her face as she turned her head left and right, reaching her hands up to gather her hair up a moment before dropping it down again with a deep sigh.

"What do you think? Should I wear it up? Or.."

"Well, you could always braid it up into a-" her mother's words were cut off at Danielle's repulsive look, laughing. "Okay, okay. Honestly, Danielle, you'll look amazing either way. Have you even tried the dress on yet?"

Danielle turned around to look at her mother rather than staring at her reflection just to give her a look, smirking as she gestured down to her towel, "Don't you think if I had tried it on, I wouldn't still be wearing this?" Danielle laughed at her mother's hands raised in surrender, running a hand up through her hair with a heavy sigh as she stood up and walked towards her walk-in closet. "I'm just gonna go down. Less hassle. I'm sure Max is almost ready to head over, anyways." The blue dress she had decided to wear for the night was one she had worn to winter formal earlier that year at her old school. Of course she didn't have to try it on, she knew it'd still fit. Or was that her mom's subtle way of saying she'd gained a few pounds since Winter Formal? A quick glance down at her figure and the girl quickly dismissed it with a quiet snort-laugh, making a mental note to poke at her mother later about it.

Stepping out from the closet, Danielle took the dress off the hanger and slipped it on, getting her mother to help with the zipper. Hayley insisted on helping Dani with her hair, blowing it dry and using the straightener which gave it a nice finishing shine to it. Even using it as a make-shift curling iron to put a few thick curls in the ends of her hair as neither of them could locate the actual thing, both of them smiling at the final look. Danielle could see her mom just beaming at her, causing her to turn a bit red as she quickly stood up to grab her dress shoes out of the box with the rest of her footwear stuffed in it.

From downstairs, a call could be heard from her father, "Incoming!"

"Shit!" Suddenly Danielle's anxiety shot through the roof, quickly slipping one heel on before snagging the matching one from the box as she began to hobble down the hall. She quickly pulled the second heel on before ascending the staircase, getting about halfway down before she heard a knock at the front door, hurrying down the steps as fast as the heels could take her without falling flat on her face. "I got it, don't-" Her father was already at the door, swinging it open wide to reveal Max in the doorway.

"Weeeeeeell, lookie here. Max! Sure clean up well, young man." Danielle stood a few steps behind her father, pinching the bridge of her nose while shaking her head. Could this night get any worse? she thought to herself, peaking around her dad with an apologetic look as she nudged her dad aside, smiling nervously. "Ignore him, I think he's had a little too much," she made a drinking gesture with a smirk, Theodore looking down on his daughter with a small grin.

"Nonsense! I'm happy. I don't have to worry about having to put on Tough Dad Mode, and don't have to worry about telling you kids to be s-"

"Honey! Let them go. I'm sure they want to get out of here," "-and away from you." Hayley smirked and narrowed her eyes playfully at Danielle, crossing the distance between them to place a kiss on her forehead, cupping her cheek tenderly. "Go enjoy yourself, tonight," Hayley then turned her attention on her sweet nephew, smiling at him, "I know I don't need to say this, cause we know you.. but, take care of her tonight, would ya? We'd like you guys to get back by midnight at the latest, please." Danielle's mother turned her attention on her daughter once more, brushing a stray hair out of her face. "But, you know, if you come home earlier than that, it's totally okay. I'll be waiting up for you. Call me if you need anything."

Danielle nodded, and with that her mother stepped away from her to stand beside her father, Dani stepping across the threshold out into the cool night air with Max, getting her first real look at him. He looked quite stunning, really. She nodded in approval and smiled teasingly at her cousin, speaking with a playful mock in her tone, "I guess we can make this work." She stuck her tongue out at Max, taking him by the hand to lead him away from the doorway. "Now lets get out of here before they start crying," she laughed as they headed for his vehicle.

Max’s smile stayed as wide as ever when his uncle opened the door. His signature booming laugh emanating from him as Theodore complimented him. “Thank you! You don’t look too bad for an old man yourself” he exclaimed opting to give his uncle a big bear hug even though his cousin looked like she wanted to die standing behind her father. “Glad to have you guys back” Max finished beaming at his aunt.

He just stood listening to his aunt as she cradled his cousin’s face. Trying to keep a straight face as she told them both they had a curfew. Maybe Dani had to be home by midnight… he sure as hell was not planning on being back by then.

“For sure Hayley, don’t worry I’ll see to it that Dani here will make it back by twelve.” he said in his best good boy voice shooting his cousin a quick wink.

Another laugh escaped him at Dani’s comment “Well we’re going to have to make it work… our mothers saw too that!” he continued laughing throwing his car keys in the air and catching them before pressing the unlock button making his truck emit a loud honk.

The cousins spent the car ride catching up, laughing, and jamming out to Max’s ‘get pumped’ playlist. Soon enough they were both stepping into the main ballroom at the Crown Height’s country club.

It didn’t take long before Max spotted what he was looking for, Ariana. Only she could wear so little and still look so damn sexy. He smirked at the sight of her standing there taking selfies with her date. He turned to Dani “So uh yeah… Sorry to leave you like this but… I have something I need to… finish. Think of this as an opportunity to make new friends!” he grinned patting her on the shoulder.

As he made his way through the crowd he stopped to bump fists with some of his teammates. Wink at a few of the cheerleaders before he made it to the other side of the room where Ariana and Jasper stood posing.

“Sorry dude… is it ok if I steal her away for a couple of minutes?” He asked putting a friendly hand on the lanky guy’s shoulder.

A collab starring: April & Archer

Archer had to bite the inside of his cheeks so as to not burst out laughing at the sight of his parent’s faces. His mother looked like she had seen a ghost, her jaw hanging open in her pale white face. His father, on the other hand, looked like he didn’t know whether to be proud or furious. But before he could take the joke further April took the chance to explain.

When the girl was done his parents both finally exhaled and even cracked smiles. They had gotten used to their younger son pulling stunts like this on them. “Yeah… No, I’m still very gay.” Archer still grinned placing a hand on April’s bump gingerly. “And this little miracle belongs to someone else.”. His mother laughed, shooting her husband a nervous glance, but he just let out a noise that was a mixture between a grunt and a laugh as he turned on his heel waving the teens off. A reaction about 10 times more positive than Archer had expected.

“Well, in any case, you two have a lovely night! And Archie you behave around her fragile state! It was very nice meeting you April.” she tried putting on her stern face for her son before smiling genuinely at April.

Rolling his eyes he nodded at his mother “You ready April?” he asked as he opened the front door wider for her to step out.

April grinned as Archer’s ruse came to a close. It was quite entertaining to see his parents in such a state, especially knowing that Archer didn’t exactly swing her way. Admittedly, there was a tiny bit of regret in her mind for speaking up, but she shook the thought away and just smiled in return. “Yes, little Camilla here does not belong to Archer, you don’t need to worry at all.” she smiled nervously once again, before nodding her head to affirm her words.

As Archer’s father walked away, April nodded to his mother before replying “And it was lovely meeting you as well.” She then looked to Archer with a nod as he spoke. “Unfortunately due to certain circumstances I will not be the one driving us to this evenings get together….we’ll have to endure my dad for the ride. I apologize in advance.” she giggled, before making her way out the door and taking Archer’s hand in the process. She lead him out to the driveway before giving a small wave to her father, before opening the rear door for Archer.

“Dad, this is Archer. He’s a friend from school and my partner for this evening.” she announced in a faux high-class voice, before making her way around the BMW to the other rear door. “Try not to be too embarassing, please.”

“We’ve met once actually… I’m the one with the busted car that makes your daughter want to puke! But it’s really nice seeing you again Mr. Foster.” Archer grinned as he stepped into the fancy vehicle. He always got nervous riding in these fancy cars, it was so different from his own car and he didn’t want to mess things up.

“Good to see you as well, Archer. And I’m suuuure it doesn’t want to make April puke, she’s got a baby for that.” he laughed before glancing back to the pair “Shall we then?”

“We shall!” April announced, looking to Archer with a smile.

“You look very pretty tonight by the way.” he smiled as he turned to buckle his seatbelt.

“And you look absolutely dashing yourself, good sir.” she replied without missing a beat, her faux high-class voice returning before she lost it in a fit of giggles. “Speaking of that car, you still need to bring that over to my place one of these days so I can get it fixed up. Maybe after this mess is over tonight, we can figure something out yeah?”

“Oh for sure… after this mess…” he said tapping on his thighs trying his very best not to stare down at April’s baby bump. The car ride was surprisingly pleasant after Archer’s initial awkwardness. After a while, he warmed up to the presence of April’s dad who turned out to be a very chill dude, contrasting to his own father.

The ride over was more entertaining than April could’ve imagined. Archer and her dad had hit it off better than she had ever expected, and it all made for a good start to a night that was otherwise--as said before--a total clusterfuck. By the time they had arrived, April’s cheeks were already a bit sore from the smile that hadn’t left her face since they’d departed.

When the car stopped in front of the country club Archer helped his date out of the car and bid farewell to the driver “Thanks for the ride, I promise to keep her out of trouble!” he said with a cheeky wink through Mr. Foster’s open window.

“Bye dad! I’ll see you in a bit!” April waved to her father before taking Archer’s hand and exiting the vehicle. She took in a deep breath before looking to Archer “Well, my expectations aren’t the highest for tonight, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to hope does it? I would like to say that I’m glad we decided to go to this together--that you asked me to. Apart from Santiago, I’m not sure there’s anyone else I’d rather go to this with.”

Archer stuck out his arm for April to grab and they entered the dance together. A look of surprise shone from the tall teen as he looked around the room. “Wow… the dance committee didn’t go the cheesy route this year, bold choice” He grinned as he steered April towards the refreshments. He eyed the punch fountain and the different punch bowls strewn about. Trying to pick the one that wasn’t spiked was like playing Russian roulette, and that was nothing you should play with a pregnant girl.

“I think our safest bet is something that is sealed…” he said jokingly grabbing two bottled water from a pile chilling in crushed ice. “You want to go sit?” he asked pointing towards one of the big round tables decorated with red and white flowers and heart confetti.

“Definitely.” April smiled, nodding before following Archer to a table and cracking open her water.

Once the pair had settled down Archer couldn’t help but look around in the crowd to see if his boyfriend had arrived yet. He could see that the dancefloor was already in full swing where Kavi and thespian queen Chrissie were sharing a dance moment. And since Kavan was with Ariel, Archer hoped that his boyfriend could maybe keep Ariel from breaking another nose. In his search, he spotted the most peculiar scene. Was that Marisol… with her leg wrapped around Ryland?

No… No, don’t get yourself into that mess, Archie… don’t he had to remind himself as he tore his face away from the disaster that was inevitably happening in front of him. Instead, he refocused on April. “Uhm so how are you doing… uh… considering?” he asked rather bluntly. “I mean… How long… uh. Will she pop out before we graduate?” he plastered on a smile while running a hand through his hair.

“Some days are harder than others, but overall I think I’m doing alright. Santiago’s changed so much since this all started and it's all just happening so nicely. From after the Halloween party of course. And yes, I do think little Camilla will be attending our graduation, meaning I will get to walk across that stage with a super normal, not out of the ordinary belly.”

“Anyway, who did the devil end up taking to this shindig?” he asked, taking a swig from his water bottle.

“Now that is a good question...I think it may have been Stella? I’m sure we’ll find out here in a moment.”

A Shawna @NeoAJ and Jack @Bee collab

There wasn’t much research available to compare the mood entering this particular dance, but despite Jack’s pump up speech, Shawna had to conclude it was definitely more subdued than anything else. It seemed like everyone was going to show up fashionably late to an event that promised to be crawling with “authority figures” intent on enforcing this whole “no emotions” idea of theirs. It still didn’t make any damn sense. But it was the first function where Shawna was attending as a patron, not a volunteer at coat check, and it was going to be memorable damn it.

Besides, it wasn’t like they could completely eliminate everything, and Shawna had been practicing some more covert techniques that would be of use here. She may now have the ability to stuff a flask in her cleavage, but it certainly fit well into the secret pouch of her purse that she decided to bring. Best $75 she ever spent having that dude from Fort Lauderdale guide her to the best stashing spot she could have on her person. She took out the container, unscrewed the top and unleashed some of the sweet silver-shining liquid. Tequila wasn’t her first choice, but it was going to be the most effective since her father’s whiskey supplies were now off-limits. Sated, she handed the flask towards her escort for the evening. “Would like you like a bit of the Jose Cuervo special Jack? Or are you saving it for later?”

Man, this party was LAME. He figured there would be more energy than there was right now, but considering that this was about one of the most whack Valentine’s Day dances he’d ever been to, he shouldn’t have been that surprised. That didn’t mean he couldn’t carry a party on his own, however. Jack had many tricks up his sleeve that would hopefully make the party better than it was right now.

Apparently, Shawna had her own idea of a party as well, watching her pull a flask out of seemingly nowhere and take a sip out of it. Jack had no idea that Shawna was even remotely capable of such a thing. He was gawking just a bit. He knew damn well what a flask implied. However, he couldn’t really drink, considering he was driving. ”I’m driving tonight, dude. Can’t drink right now.” She shrugged, chuckling. ”Didn’t know you had that in you… or on you, I guess.”

Shawna legit giggled at that. “There is a lot you apparently don’t know about me, Jack ma boy! And I respect that choice. You are being exactly the kind of gentleman my dad would approve of. Plus, I heard what happened last time at one of these things. Definitely a good idea to keep the ability to get your car out of harm’s way.” She took another swig and then tucked it back into the designated compartment. There was so much padding on her purse, no one would ever tell it was in there. Plus, and this was the ingenious part, it looked metallic, but it was actually made out of silicone. No way it could set off a metal detector. It was genius if she did say so herself.

“Anyway, I think our work is cut out for us. Doesn’t seem to be much of a vibe going here.”

Jack chuckled, “I see that now.” Jack quickly eyed Shawna’s purse, watching her stuff her flask away and act as if nothing had happened. Damn. Too bad Jack couldn’t get away with that. There were many a situation where something like that could potentially prove to be useful. But he wasn’t a girl, and having a purse like that as a man like him was plenty a reason to suspect him.

“Hey, I’ve been in whacker. Just stick with me.” Jack continued to walk along, ”Hopefully we find something neat.”

“Hey, worse case, as you said, we bail on this thing and go get burgers or something,” Shawna affirmed. “Or, just be really cheap, eat whatever food they got from the caterers and save our money.” As the two got closer, the strains of slow cheesy pop ballads could be heard wafting from the club. Shawna rolled her eyes at hearing the sounds of Charlie Puth. And not the good Charlie Puth, when he sounds like he actually knows what he’s talking about, the lame Charlie Puth when he sounds like he got all his knowledge on love from a sex education class in Utah. “Let’s hope the playlist is just running through all the terrible songs first.”

”Man, these tunes are… WHACK.” Jack wasn’t entirely looking to hear what appeared to be the most inappropriate song for an event like this. They were supposed to be turnt up and not be listening to Charlie Puth try to weasel his way into someone’s pants. Why would he try to Marvin Gaye and get it on when he has a bunch of other people One Call Away? It made no sense.

”So, what do you wanna do first? You wanna get a couple of drinks or something first?”

Shawna shrugged. “I dunno, I guess I thought there would be more to these things. I mean, the rumors I’ve heard… Anyway, um, sure, drinks sounds good, Jack.”

”I did too… Jack glanced at Shawna, before walking over to the drinks table to see what was up. There was your standard variety of drinks - a punch fountain, water, lemonade, and some unidentifiable fizzy drink. ”Yo, if you want something good, lemme make you some of the Jack special.” Since Jack had been to many a dance, and they tend to have the same sort of refreshments there, he had figured out a way to make the most of what he had.

Taking a couple of cups out of their sleeve, Jack got a couple scoops of punch in both cups, before following up with splashes of lemonade. Turning around, Jack raised the cup to Shawna’s face, offering it to her. ”Here, I call this the Jack special.”

The cup was graciously accepted by the woman in the white-and-blue dress. Her dad would have told her to never accept a drink from a boy in a social setting, but at this point, Jack struck her as the last male who would put anything in her cup.

Shawna took a sip, then paused. It tasted like someone put something in her cup.

The punch and lemonade flavors worked well, but there was definitely something extra in there. Something boozy. Was it vodka? There was nothing else other than the lemon and fruit. It had to be something like that.

Which means Jack probably shouldn’t be drinking it if he wanted to get the Viper home.

“Jack, if you’re really committed to this whole not-drinking thing you have going, I’m going to recommend you don’t drink what you just gave me.”

Jack was a bit confused, before he connected the dots in his head. ”Oh shit, they spiked these things?” Jack looked at his cup. ”Damn! I almost took a sip myself.” Jack took a glance at the bowl he just got the punch from, ”Well, at least you don’t have to take your special flask out when it’s already done for us.”

Shawna tilted her head back and forth. “Well, I may still go to it, but it’s nice to know there is someone looking out for us. Here, c’mon, take me to the table, we’ll see if we can’t find you a nice non-spiked drink.” She took the other cup from Jack to make sure he wasn’t tempted and drained her initial one so she wouldn’t be carrying around two cups and looking weird. “Worse case, the water is bottled. I doubt it’s going to be spiked… Unless someone was really committed and did that thing I saw on the internet to get it full of vodka…”

Shame Jack was driving. Spiked punch sounded great right now, but he had to abide by his word. He was Shawna’s ride home and he didn’t feel like wrapping the Viper around a tree, especially with Shawna inside of it. ”At that point I’m just gonna call us an Uber. If our water bottles have vodka in them, then clearly someone wants us to party.” Jack glanced over at the table, the one that he could safely assume that Shawna wanted to head over to.

”Alright. I’ll take you to your table.” He smiled, sticking his elbow out so that Shawna could hook it.

“One sec, Jack,” Shawna told him as she sampled the wares of the punch fountain. Heavily syruped fruit juice and flat ginger ale… and nothing else. “I can confirm that you are clear to drink out of the fountain. It appears to be clean.” She gave the thumbs up as she came over and hooked her arm around Jack’s. “Escort me, sir.”

Smiling softly, he appreciated Shawna’s initiative. Looking out for his tail like that was always something that Jack could appreciate. Shuffling over to the nearest table, Jack pulled out the nearest chair, allowing Shawna to sit in it as he would opt to stand instead. ”Man, if the tunes weren’t so whack I figured we could go dance or something. But, how the fuck are we supposed to get turnt to this shit? I thought this school knew how to party.”

“Yeah, that’s what I was told too,” Shawna sighed as she took the seat that Jack had pulled out and rested her head on her arm. “I guess this is what happens when the teachers do all the planning and monitoring and bullshit like that. I swear, sometimes they take way too much interest in their students for their own good.” She looked over at the bored-looking DJ, slowly spinning the most inoffensive pop hits of the past three decades. Some dude was warbling about being taken higher now. Garbage.

She looked over at Jack. “I guess there are definitely worse people I could be here with to bask in the glory of this crappy music with though. That makes it a better party than it would be otherwise.”

Jack eventually plopped down into the nearest seat and sighed. He glanced over at Shawna as he listened to her talk about the party. ”That’s mad gay, Shawna…” Jack teased, before he had a mini brainwave, ”Hey, speaking of gay, why don’t we go find your Sunshine? Gives us something to do, at least.”

Shawna looked around to try and spot her Sunshine, but it turns out she didn’t have to. Sunshine had spotted them first. However, Shawna was quick to notice her girlfriend making her way across the dance floor. She returned her wave and stood up, ready to greet the bringer of more punch. Dang, I’m going to be buzzing quicker than I thought I guess…

She blushed slightly under the tender peck on the cheek but made sure to adjust herself so none of the punch splashed on a dress that was highly susceptible to showing off Red Dye #5. Sunshine meanwhile had a message for Jack.

”I appreciate what you’re doing for our girl here, Jack, I really do. But let me make it very, very clear that if I so much as see you look at her the wrong way, I’ll break your perfectly chiseled jaw. Got it?”

Shawna had to giggle about how protective Sunshine was being. Not that she had any doubts that her girlfriend could take on her fake boyfriend in a fight. “Don’t worry. My dad made very clear the repercussions for askew glances.”

Well, that didn’t take long. As soon as Jack turned around, there Sunshine was. Jack laughed at the idea of Sunshine breaking his jaw, but he understood the sentiment. Anyone else he’d stand up and challenge their statement, but since this was Shawna’s girl he’d figure he’d let it slide. ”Got no problems on my end over here.” Jack said, holding his hands up.

”I’m just here so that Shawna doesn’t get in trouble.”

"My knight in shining armor," Shawna confirmed. "He's no match for my queen in... a stunning dress, hun. Still can't believe you found that. As Sunshine remarked about the quality of the refreshments, Shawna nodded. "More where that came from too. Plus Jack is graciously serving as the DD tonight." She winked at her official date, who could now be considered a good friend.

Wild how much better this calendar year was going for Shawna considering the shitshow of last year. Even if the dance was lame. At least someone had the good sense to request some different music. She wasn't much for the 1D crowd, but anything was better than what they were playing. Of course, now that Sunshine was back in her orbit, Shawna doubted she would pay the music much mind anymore.

For the first time since she's been a student at King's Academy, Chanel Martin could actually say that she was pleasantly surprised with how well whatever committee was usually in charge of decorating had done this time around. When Chanel entered the room with Sunshine by her side, she couldn't help but smile a bit as she took in her immediate surroundings; a rather large crowd had already began to form on the dance floor, and Chanel had already made plans in her head to join them... as soon as she found whichever punch bowl had been spiked. It wasn't that she needed any alcohol in her system to have a good time; In fact, Chanel thrived in social settings such as this one. But one... or maybe four cups certainly wouldn't hurt. If anything, it would help her get into the partying mood even faster.

As soon as Sunshine had left Chanel alone by the refreshments table, the young woman grabbed a plastic cup from the stack and began her search for the spiked fountain. She found it sooner than she would've thought, and her nose flared in disgust as she finally took a sip of the crimson colored liquid. Vodka. "Ugh..." the young woman muttered before taking a deep breath and finishing the rest of it in two gulps. She repeated this process once more before tossing her cup into the nearby trash and beginning her search for any familiar faces.

The first person who caught Chanel's eye was, of course, her red-headed best friend; The young woman watched in amusement as her friend moved around on the dance floor with none other than Sonny Drake. Chanel had to admit that she wasn't completely horrified by Sonny's dancing; Sure, he wasn't on some next level Michael Jackson type of shit, but it wasn't nearly as bad as she would've thought. The next person that Chanel found herself eyeing was Chrissie McCoy; Although she did think that the girl looked stunning in her pink dress, she couldn't help but scrunch her nose at the sight of her dancing around with the school man-whore himself. Chanel may have been over whatever little drama had happened before then, but she still didn't trust Kavi as far as she could throw him. "Out of all people..." Chanel murmured as she rolled her eyes and turned to fill up another cup. It was only after finishing it off and making a mental note to give Sunshine her keys that she deemed herself ready to get the party started.

As Chanel made her way to the dance floor, she grabbed the nearest decent-looking guy and hauled him along with her, ignoring the protests of his company. He didn't seem to mind too much, though, especially after she began dancing, matching the sensuality of Zayn Malik's velvety voice. She was determined to have the time of her life that night... though part of her still made sure to keep a watchful eye on her friends (and enemies) while doing so.

Ariel and Kavan spent the first few moments of the dance swaying to the beat of the music and idly scanning the room for familiar faces. While Ariel found herself staring in the direction of Kavi and Chrissie, Kavan's head was turned in the opposite direction, his eyes searching for his boyfriend and his pregnant date. It wasn't until after Ariel mentioned that she was going to go get a drink and talk to Shawna that he returned his attention to her. "Oh, okay... cool," Kavan said with a slight nod of his head as she began to walk away. "I guess I'll go see if I can find Archer or Mari." It was as soon as he'd finished speaking, however, that his eyes finally landed upon someone he knew. Unfortunately for him, however, she seemed a little... occupied at the moment.

Kavan watched in sheer shock as Marisol and Ryland moved on the dance floor, their bodies in sync and pressed closely together... perhaps a little too close. But it didn't take long for Kavan to spot Sonny Drake and Julie MacMillan also dancing together not too far away from where the peculiar scene was taking place. To say that Kavan was confused would be an understatement. But he decided against getting involved, instead opting to aimlessly stroll around the area, avoiding the dance floor at all costs. It wasn't until Kavan spotted a familiar face near the front entrance that he wiped the lingering expression from his face and approached her with a warm smile.

"Dani," Kavan spoke to the young woman as he came to a stop beside her. "It's really good to see you again... you didn't come alone, did you? You could've tagged along with me and Ariel."

A @metanoia & @Rosalia Collaboration
Featuring Santiago Fernandez & Stella Lambert

When Santiago’s Lambo started to move, something that Stella immediately noticed was how smooth it drove. She had never been in one before. Despite growing up pretty well off, her parents weren’t that wealthy and they personally weren’t the types to buy one. The closest to one she had been was seeing the person driving her to the country club show it off around school.

She chose to remain quiet for the most part during the drive. It wasn’t that Stella couldn’t talk about what had literally just happened. She could talk Santiago’s ear off, use him as a quality venting space, and maybe get some advice if that’s what she was in the mood for (it wasn’t). She didn’t do that because she didn’t want to think about it. She didn’t want to focus on the negative that was Chrissie or how her cousin was becoming a bigger pain in her rear than — hell, than Santiago was, which even then he never made her cry so much in her life.

Oops, guess she let that one slip.

Yeah, Stella was a wreck, but she didn’t want to think about any of that, especially with how terrible she’s been handling the Chrissie drama. She wanted to block it all out for tonight. Nothing brought her greater joy than knowing she and Santiago were in a good place and that she might even be able to have some fun with Carter (if she was lucky).

“Hey, listen.” Stella saw they were approaching the Country Club (the lights stuck out in the post-sunset evening like a sore thumb. “I’m sorry I’ve been so quiet,” Stella said, somewhat frowning at Santiago. “And I’m sorry you had to hear all of that back at the house. There was a lot going on. Chrissie got on my last nerve and--” She stopped herself. She felt the knot in her stomach start to tighten, signalling her she was near the point of doing exactly what she told herself she wouldn’t. “--And, I just didn’t want to lay that on you or give my cousin the benefit of ruining what I hope is an amazing evening with my new friend!” As they came to a stop at a red light, she gave Santiago a warm smile, hoping he knew that she meant every single word.

Santiago tore his eyes from the road ahead and turned towards Stella with a soft smile. “Hey, don’t worry about it, Stella,” he reassured her in a surprisingly gentle tone. “Families fight all the time. Sorry I was quiet all the way here, though. I figured you wanted some space. I didn’t want to make you feel any worse by saying the wrong thing.”

Stella shook her head at his last comment. “Oh no. you could never. I mean, not anymore.” Oh there she went, foot in mouth again. “What I mean is now, you’re the only person right now who is making me smile,” she clarified. “In this god awful time of my life, the time spent with you has brought me more joy than, well a bag of sour cream and onion potato chips. And I love sour cream and onion potato chips!”

The young man couldn’t help but chuckle at her words. It was nice to know that she was on her way to being her usual cheerful self. The silence that had reigned between them along the way had been a tad unsettling. “As good as it feels to hear that I make you so happy, I’m glad you don’t smell like the chips. Lils used to love them too, but ever since she got pregnant even the tiniest whiff of ‘em makes her throw up. Funny how that happens, huh? How women get pregnant and suddenly something they used to love eating makes them stupid sick all of a sudden…” he rambled, his eyes now back on the road.

There was something comforting about how Santiago talked about April. Always she saw him as the kind of guy that was macho and obnoxious, but she truly was starting to see him in a different light and it always seemed to happen when he talked about April. And that was something Stella found truly endearing about him. How sweet he was, how down to earth he was. Everything that had been thought about him wasn’t accurate. The more time Stella spent with him, the more she was starting to see that.

After a few moments of silence and the country club practically within sight, Stella’s voice cracked as though it sounded off before anything coherent formed, causing her to cough. “I meant to say it before,” her voice was raspy and she coughed a few more times. “Do you happen to have anything to drink?” She asked him, coughing every other word.

Diablo smacked his head against the steering wheel. “Shit, yeah. Sorry about that, I meant to ask you earlier. Go ahead: open up the glove compartment and pick your poison. I’ve got water, ginger ale, juices, sparkling water... No alcohol, though. Reformed man with a kid on the way and all that,” he joked with a grin.

Stella half-coughed, half-laughed and grabbed the small, 8oz bottle of apple juice. She twisted off the cap and drank about a third of it before coming up for air. “That’s much better!” She could talk again! “Now, where was I?” She thought for a moment. “Oh right! With all the family drama that happened, I wasn’t able to tell you, but I bought you and April some gifts for the baby!” Stella told him with a gleaming smile on her face.

That brought a genuine, thankful grin to the young man’s face. “Oh yeah?” he asked, playfully raising his eyebrow before letting out a small laugh. “Damn, Stella: that’s really sweet of you. Lils is gonna love to hear that. We really do appreciate it.”

“I just hope you guys will like it,” Stella said, slightly nervous. She pushed a strand of hair behind her ear, smiling at Santiago. “I can give it to you guys tomorrow or tonight even if there’s still time when we get back to my house.” She looked ahead for a brief moment, noticing the cars in front of them starting to move and that’s when she saw the green light.

“Fine by me,” Santiago answered, turning his attention back on the road. He let some silence fall between them as they finally reached the parking lot of the country club before he eventually blurted out, “I’m going to propose to her, you know? Not tonight, obviously, but definitely before summer ends.”

The brunette remained silent, trying to register exactly what she just heard; even as she did, it still didn’t click with her brain until it was about twenty seconds later. “You’re going to do what now?” She asked, turning her entire body as much as she could to face Santiago. “It sounded like you said you said you were going to propose to April…” Stella had a bad history of hearing things that weren’t actually said and thinking they were true, so hopefully Santiago would forgive her if she needed him to repeat himself.

The young man couldn’t help but chuckle loudly at his date’s disbelieving expression. “That’s exactly what I said. What, you have that little faith in me?” he teased, not waiting for her answer before adding, “I mean, I wouldn’t blame you. But I’m dead serious, Stell: I want to propose to April.”

She laughed, though felt guilty for jumping to the wrong conclusion. “No, it’s just--” She stopped herself. She was focusing on the wrong details. Stella took a breath, studying Santiago’s face and seeing a familiar expression of nervousness, one she often saw on her own but there was also a conviction she rarely saw on her own (though it existed somewhere). That gave her all of the proof she needed. He was as serious as she had to imagine he had been about anything else. “So you’re really--that’s amazing! Does anyone else know?” She inquired.

Santiago shook his head. “Nah. Haven’t wanted to freak anyone out with the news,” he confessed, turning over to look at her with what was probably the most open, honest expression he had ever given someone outside April, Max or his family. “And I feel as if I start saying it to people, everyone will be trying to tell me what to do, or pull me in all sorts of different directions. I don’t want that. I wanna be able to do things on my own terms and at my own time, you feel me?”

“I totally understand.” The scary part was she knew exactly what it felt like to want to tell someone something without another someone doing that for her. She knew the feeling all too well that it twisted her stomach whenever she thought about how Chrissie robbed her of telling Carter what she wanted to tell him. “You want to make sure when she hears it, it’s from you first and not planted in her head by someone who might twist things.” She took a moment to pause, shaking off the rising, almost boiling current of anger threatening to come to the surface. “Don’t worry, Santi! Your secret is safe with me!” And when she said that, unlike a certain drama queen who was faker than American cheese, she meant what she said.

Diablo gave Stella a bright smile. “Thanks, girl… For the gifts for Mila, the company-- everything. Sorry I just went ahead and dumped all of this on ya like that, but I really appreciate you listening to my ramblings,” he chuckled, scratching the back of his neck like he always did when he was nervous or embarrassed.

Stella gave Santiago a smile as she grabbed her clutch. “Of course! You made me forget all about that awful fight I had, so I needed it just as much as you seemed to have.” She offered him a smile. “So should we go in now? I think any more time spent sitting and my butt will get too numb for me to walk,” she laughed.

“Yeah, sure!” he responded, finally killing the engine of the Lambo. He exited the car and quickly made his way over to the passenger seat to help Stella gracefully step out, and once the doors were closed and safely locked behind them, the two made their way past the country club’s doors and into the already bustling ballroom.

Feeling the beats, Sonny and Julie matched each other’s movements accordingly. The muscle memory was smoother than he initially gave it credit for. Either that, or being around Julie made him not care about how he danced to such a degree that he didn’t realize how terrible he looked. Sonny never claimed to be a good dancer; even when he was actively trying to improve, he never had it, but maybe that’s what happened when you threw caution into the wind and started to have fun.

Because that’s exactly what Sonny was doing. Was it because of Julie? Yeah, maybe. Or maybe for the first time in a while, he was able to let loose and just enjoy himself.

But alas, like all good things in life, Sonny’s moments of assemble-ing while Julie pirouetted him due to her slightly superior height had come to an end on the note as the somewhat upbeat song was replaced by something less groovy. It was a song Sonny had heard on the radio a few times and knew it was trash because of what it meant for some. See, Sonny was more of a hyperactive dancer and slow dancing was the bane of his existence and that’s exactly what Pillowtalk demanded. From people like Chanel, who was on the dancefloor already assuming the role of a leader, Sonny expressed himself with his tongue out, emulating one who was about to vomit.

Sonny leaned to Julie. “I’m gonna get us a couple of drinks. Be back in a few!”

Sonny was about two feet into moving his legs over towards the refreshments table when he caught the sight of his two best friends over by the DJ booth and holding each other in an intimate way no more than a few feet away. The way they looked, the way they were so close, and how...effortlessly they moved, Sonny had nearly forgotten about the drinks. He just watched them dance, watching Rye lead Marisol across the dancefloor like she was the beauty to his graceful beast. Like it was…

Sonny shook his head and whatever thought crept up into his mind, he pushed it out nearly immediately, forgetting about the drinks, forgetting about whatever refreshments he thought he needed and instead went back to Julie. He took her hand, smiling. “I suppose we don’t have to stop dancing and I always wanted to try slow dancing, so how about it?” Sonny was speaking rhetorically, though he would wait for Julie to accept his offer before he would try his best to take her in a different way than even Sonny thought he was capable of. If he was going to fail at this, then he knew Julie would simply take the lead. He trusted her but moreover, he wanted to try and get closer to his best friends and slow dancing across the dancefloor was as good of a way to do it.

PBR's Valentine's Day Dance. It wasn't exactly in the list of things Sawyer wanted to go to, but after several of his friends and his own twin made their cases on why he should go he finally said he'd go just to shut them up. With Georgie gone, Sawyer's only option was to go stag. Luckily his two best friends Jack and Kol also agreed to go stag with him. Even still, he wasn't exactly thrilled to be forced into the limelight. He'd much rather be home in his garage with music drowning everything else out but his work.

With a fresh haircut and a clean shave to rid himself of the beard he had been unintentionally growing out, Sawyer fit himself into the burgundy colored suit his twin had picked up for him and took off into the night. The Lockwood boy picked up both of his friends in his truck, and while ignoring his friends remarks on how he couldn't just wear a normal black and white suit like everyone else, the three of them prepared for the dance the only way they felt acceptable. They stopped at the side of the road a couple of blocks from the clubhouse and smoked themselves out. A blunt shared between the trio and a dab hit each later, they decided it was time to make their appearance.

Sawyer pulled into the lot, seeing as not many people were outside, the dance was already getting started without them. The boys all sprayed cologne on in hopes to hide the scent of marijuana on them from the chaperones and teachers in attendance. They walked through the doors and took everything in, Sawyer eyeing all the people dancing in couples before rolling his eyes and wandering off towards the food table with his friends on his heels with the same idea. Food sounded good right about now.

“Sorry dude… is it ok if I steal her away for a couple of minutes?”

Although her face was as impassive as ever as she excused herself with Jasper and followed Max outside, a nervous Ariana was secretly going down the list of reasons as to why the lacrosse captain would want to privately speak to her. Had he figured out what was actually happening between her and Jasper? They had made out quite publicly that first time when she’d asked him to be her date, after all. King’s Academy was a small school, so it was common for juicy news about hookups to travel around fast. And with how odd it would’ve been to spot the cheer captain tongue wrestling with the quiet, shy music prodigy of their class, she wouldn’t be surprised if any rumors had reached her darling Maxie’s ears. That was a possibility.

Or… There was another worse case scenario she was starting to entertain… Had Max realized what was the true nature of her relationship with Jace? Not that there was a relationship there nowadays, but it’s not like they had been subtle about their pettiness towards each other in the last few weeks. The glaring, the ignoring, the snide remarks, the way she jumped onto Max whenever Jace showed around, or the way Jace stared daggers at them whenever together... She’d often dismissed Max as being too dumb to notice the questionable things that happened around them, but had she underestimated him? Had the oblivious Max Wallenberg actually put the pieces of the puzzle together and figured out she’d been hooking up with their math teacher? Because that would be a Disaster with a capital D.

Holy shit, Ariana: pull yourself together!!! Christ! It’s not a big deal!

She was freaking overreacting! It was probably something stupid and mundane anyway, right? Like maybe he just wanted to tell her how hot she looked. Yeah, that was probably it. Or maybe he just wanted to tell her all the dirty things he would do to her, but didn’t want Jasper around to hear because it would be awkward as hell? Huh, maybe. Or, heck, maybe he just wanted to whisk her away like a thief in the night for, I don’t know, a normal, PG conversation about their day? Another plausible scenario!

Oh well… Time to find out.

“Hey baby,” the girl cooed, wrapping her arms around him and pulling him in for a brief kiss. Better to butter him up just in case things went south-- seduction was always a powerful weapon. “Everything okay?”

Julie Macmillan would be lying if she said she wasn’t having fun. Dancing around with Sonny without a care in the world proved to be just what she needed. The time she had spent on their outfits really showed as they spun around amongst their peers. Snickers could be heard all around them but in regular Macmillan fashion, the girl didn’t care one bit. As soon as the song ended the pair also stopped their dancing and Sonny offered to get them something to drink.

As she watched her date walk through the dancing crowd of students Julie spun around to see if something interesting could hold her over until Sonny came back. She was in luck because her blue eyes fell on her best friend Chanel as she was dancing with a random dude. Julie smiled widely as she made her way over to them. As she got close to them she spun graciously around them locking eyes with Chanel as she did. Julie backed up as she was dancing so that her back was against her best friend’s. “Coco you look wonderful! This C.M original fits you like a glove of course.” she gushed. She cast an eye towards the guy Chanel had caught in her claws. “Don’t worry… I won’t block you anymore.” the redhead laughed and winked at her best friend walking to the edge of the dance floor to wait for Sonny.

As she stood there waiting the song changed from the upbeat song that had been playing to a much slower song abruptly. Julie raised an eyebrow in confusion, the music had been very dance-friendly up until now. But this song was more suited for grinding than anything else. She turned around to see what was going on on the dancefloor, and it turned out that her opinion of the song was shared with most. Julie shook her head in amusement as she watched Chanel command the poor boy she was dancing with. When she continued scanning the floor she eventually landed on Marisol in a red dress being wrapped up in Ryland’s arms. She looked on for longer than she’d like to admit, it made her feel some sort of way but she couldn’t place what that was.

When Sonny arrived back Julie felt relieved, but the fact that he came back without the drinks he left to get and that his gaze was directed over her shoulder at his girlfriend dancing(or grinding) with someone she thought was one of his best friends made the girl a bit uncomfortable.

“I suppose we don’t have to stop dancing and I always wanted to try slow dancing, so how about it?”

Sonny smiled, taking ahold of her hand. Julie quickly glanced over her shoulder at Marisol and Ryland before slowly slipping her hand out of Sonny’s. Slow dancing was one thing, this song was made for something else. Not something that was suited for friends.

“Uhm… Why don’t we take a little break?” She smiled sweetly. “I’m actually kind of thirsty, are they out of drinks?” she asked looking down at his empty hands. She grabbed his arm and pulled him over to the big fountain of punch pouring out of it. Again she poured them both cups of the crimson liquid. Julie took a huge gulp and almost spit it back out again. Someone had definitely spiked the fountain.

“Ah… here we go! Someone finally made things a bit interesting” She giggled as she wiped her mouth with a napkin.

Max smirked when Ariana agreed to come with him. He placed his hand on the small of her back as he guided her out of the room and into the small back garden of the country club. When they were alone outside Max took his time looking at her. Which to his great pleasure mad Ariana look a little nervous even though she tried to hide it well. He cracked a smile almost as if to calm her down.

He leaned into her when she kissed him. He returned the kiss as passionately as ever pushing her against the wall. When he pulled away from her he placed a hand on the wall over her head and stared down at Ariana, his blue eyes sparkling in the fairy lights that had been hung up in the trees behind him.

“Well, it is now…” Max murmured, lowering his head to give her another kiss. “But there has been one thing that has been bothering me.” he continued pushing himself off the wall and turning around pacing a little in front of the dark-haired beauty.

“You and me both know that we are good together…” he stated looking back at her. “But I also… do not like to share!” he said with a jovial tone. He had seen Ariana and Jasper being close over the weeks, and of course, the King’s rumor mill (his cousin Archer) had also churned out news of her and date swapping kisses. Which had made Max irritated beyond compare. But he couldn’t blame her, they were not official… yet.

He stepped closer to her again almost enveloping her with his presence “So, what I am getting at is-” he paused again cupping her face in his hand before running it through her glossy hair. “If we want to do this…” he pointed between himself and Ariana. “I want to do it correctly. Meaning you are mine… and I am yours.” he bent down to give her another kiss. “So what do you say?” he pulled away to look around him “And I think we should try this public display of affection another try… finish what we started in the locker room” he grinned winking at her.

As they got further into the ballroom, Stella took note of who was all here and where they were. In normal circumstances, she might be quick to look for familiar faces so she could join them or try and find some of her friends who might’ve already started enjoying themselves at the party, but she wasn’t feeling at all like herself. That wasn’t to say the girl was depressed at all nor was it to say she was unhappy about being here with Santiago or in general being at the dance. If anything, there was some kind of empty feeling building deep inside her. It was like a twisting torrent at sea that wasn’t quite yet ready to become a hurricane. It was like when the Wildebeests were on their way of killing Mufasa but not yet there.

It was like...jealousy that clung to the sight of Nicole and Carter. Yes, there was no doubt in her mind that, like she was here with Santiago as his friend, Nicole was with Carter as his friend and how everyone from their grade was with who they had come to the dance with as friends. So maybe Stella’s mood was shot and maybe seeing Chrissie and Kavi dance like they were so carefree and like they weren’t the cause for some people close to her hitting some lows was starting to get to her.

She glanced at her date, her friend who has been there for her more this past week than her own cousin was. Stella wasn’t even sure why she felt like this, but that was neither here nor there.

Refocusing what remained of the mental energy she had to spare, Stella hooked her arm under Santiago’s and dragged him to where she knew exactly she was assuming he’d want to be. Out of the corner of her eye when she was looking around the place a few moments ago, she noticed a pair, who were off on their own. As she smiled, eventually Stella and Santiago stopped in front of the two. “Hey Archer!” She smiled brightly at the boy and then saw his radiant date. “Aprill! You look amazing, sweetie! Such a beautiful dress, too!” She shot the mother-to-be the same smile. “What’s up? You two having fun?” She asked the pair.

The plan had been to offer Ariana a dance, but as they were both approached by Max, it seemed that Jaspers plans would have to wait. Feeling a heavy hand on his shoulder, the blonde turned to see none other than the star jock himself. Drink in hand and a friendly smile on his face, Jasper wasn’t at all surprised that Max had found them. As Max asked to steal Ariana away, Jasper nodded his head. ”She’s all yours man.”

Talking about Ariana as if she wasn’t standing right there didn’t sit well with Jasper, but he sucked it up. With his date walking away with her current fling - for lack of better term - Jasper had to find something to occupy himself with. Better yet, someone.

The young man had spent his whole high school career in the shadows studying people, so it was no surprise when he had noticed Max had brought an unfamiliar face to tonight's dance. Approaching the unknown girl, Jasper was glad to see that his friend Kavan had found his way over first. Maybe that would help the conversation be a bit less awkward.

”Kavan,” he said enthusiastically. ”Hows it going man?”

Turning to the brunette, he held out his hand for her to shake. ”Jasper Fray at your service, m’lady. Nice to meet you.”

Featuring Shawna @NeoAJ & Sunshine @BitchTheFuck, with a small contribution from Jack @Bee

While both Shawna and Jack reassured her, Sunshine couldn’t help but still glare at Jack as he spoke. One of the perks about being on the cheer squad was that you got really close with the jocks. Rumors, reputations and secrets spread like wildfire, and Sunshine was no stranger to any of it. Finishing the rest of her drink, the young woman linked her arm with Shawna’s as she continued to ignore her male stand-in.

”How about you and me heat up the dance floor real quick?”

Shawna craned her head towards the speakers as if to let the music determine whether or not she would accept the offer. She didn’t recognize the song playing, so she drained the remainder of her glass and decided it was good enough to dance to. “I think you may have been able to convince me,” she said with a sly look on her face. “You do make even the most vapid pop tolerable.” She turned back to her actual date for the dance. “Don’t worry, Jack. I’ll save you one platonic dance for the teacher’s eyes, OK?” She winked as she leaned against Sunshine and let her lead the way.

"You do whatever you want to do with your girlfriend. She's yours." Jack shrugged, "You two have fun."

With their arms linked, the two young women made their way to the dance floor. The song playing wasn’t really one of Sunshine’s favorites, but one that she had heard enough on the radio to know the rhythm of. While she wasn’t the best dancer in the world, she did happen to know a move or two that would allow Shawna to follow her lead.

”Look,” she said, raising her voice over the sound of the music. ”I don’t mean to make Jack think that I hate him or that….” rolling her eyes, Sunshine continued. ”Or that I’m mad at you for the situation. Because you know I’m not. I just… I’ve never cared much for the male jock Chad type.”

Shawna nodded as she swayed in time with the song. Sunshine seemed to know it better than Shawna did, so the taller girl was content to follow the other’s lead. “To be honest, I never did either. I mean, it didn’t take much of a push to get me to hate Max.” She looked away for a second, not wanting to remember him or what he did. “And Jack would have been at the top of my total avoid list if you asked me two months ago. But, and I really don’t know how the hell this happened, he reached out. He convinced me that he actually isn’t just trying to concoct some elaborate scheme to have sex with me. I think he still remembers me as just that nerdy girl I was before.” Another pause. Shawna didn’t really want to think about those times either. “I guess he’s another person who isn’t thrilled with the box he’s been put in by this school? I don’t know. I just know he stood in front of my dad and took a full blast of his special brand of interrogation. So he seems to be on the level. Trust me, I’m just as surprised as you are.”

If Shawna trusted him that much then it had to be enough for Sunshine. While Jack had a reputation for fucking and dumping mutliple women in short periods of time, perhaps Shawna wasn’t his type just like he wasn’t hers. In all reality, Sunshine could give a shit less who Shawna needed to use as her beard. She just didn’t want to see the other girl get hurt.

Doing her best to change the subject, Sunshine moved closer to her girlfriend (though still left a little room for Jesus) as she really started to fall in line with the rhythm. Looking over to Marisol and Ryland, she couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head. ”What do you think that’s all about?”

The girl in the white and blue dress looked over at the indicated couple. She hadn’t had much of a chance to talk to Marisol despite their mutual friend, but she knew what she was capable of. The other guy, she didn’t know much about. Circles hadn’t crossed as of yet. “Honestly, I don’t know. I mean, he can’t have that nice of a car if he’s willing to put himself in that position,” she said, giggling slightly at the stories she heard before. However, she did hear that Marisol was entwined… she didn’t want to say numbskull Sonny Drake, but the boy wasn’t bright. “But if you’re asking me for a true endgame there, I have no clue. I think the more I try to understand Marisol’s line of thinking, the more likely it’s not going to end well for me. Nothing against her, it’s just… I don’t think I can pull it off the way she can.”

While Sunshine didn’t know anymore about Marisol or Ryland than Shawna did, what Sunshine did know was that Marisol was dating the one and only Sonny Drake, and in Sunshines opinion, Mari was dancing just a little to steamy with someone that wasn’t her boyfriend. But to each their own.

”From what I’ve heard, she’s pretty complicated. I’ve got my fill of stores just like you did from Ariel.” Speaking of Ariel… Sunshine looked over to where Kavi and Chrissie were dancing. Sunshine didn’t know much about Ariel and Kavi’s current predicament. Regardless, it couldn’t be easy for the new redhead to see her ex dancing so carefree with another girl - even if the current event was built around friendship. ”Speaking of which… have you talked to Ari lately?”

A quick glance of the room confirmed that Ariel was here. Shawna didn’t have to look too long. Given their talks in recent weeks, it made sense that Ari would be heading to see if someone had provided an added bonus to the punch. She wouldn’t be disappointed. At least not like she had been disappointed in Kavi.

“I have,” Shawna confirmed. “She’s… uh, she’s dealing. In her own way. It looks like Kavi finally burned his last chance with her though. She’s been talking about a lot of things and just wanting to spend the rest of her time here with her friends. Her and Kavan are here together, which I think is good. Kavan seems like a pretty stable dude to be able to give her a rock or something. I keep telling her that maybe next time she doesn’t have to try for a guy, just to see if that changes things, but I don’t think she’s into my plans for a lesbian coven at King’s just yet.”

Not able to suppress her laugh, Sunshine shook her head at the comment. ”From what I’ve heard, she’s into girls too. Not sure why she ever went for that Kavi prick in the first place but I’m in no position to judge.”

“Hey, you’ve made me wonder why any girl would want to be with a guy in the first place when they can have this, so…” Shawna trailed off as the music started to fade out.

As the song came to an end, Sunshine was starting to feel a little hot. Rather it was the dress or the amount of body heat in the building, she didn’t know. ”Say, you wanna grab another drink real quick?”

Shawna looked at her dance partner, a couple small beads of sweat visible under the lights of the country club floor. “You know what, I can probably go for another drink or two, whether theirs or mine.”

”Spiked punch sounds amazing, doesn’t it?” Grabbing Shawna by the hand, Sunshine led the pair over to the drinks table where she promptly filled one cup for her girlfriend and then herself. Raising her glass in the air, Sunshine smiled at Shawna before finishing the cup in a few gulps. ”Cheers.”

Her own glass lifted, Shawna partook of the punch yet again. She looked towards her bag to determine whether or not she was ready for another nip at her own beverage, but she decided against it for now. Besides, it could always be added to the punch later if she didn’t feel she could finish it. Share the wealth and all that. “Cheers, hun. I know this isn’t how you pictured our Valentine’s Day, but I’m pretty happy I get to enjoy it with you.”

A @metanoia & @TootsiePop Collaboration
Featuring Kavi Salvador & Chrissie McCoy

As the pulsating beats of whatever song had been playing fueled him with the necessary energy to jump around and fist pump the night away, across from him Chrissie had been doing her own thing. It didn’t take Kavi long to notice that she had a style all on her own. While most, especially those who he had the pleasure — sometimes displeasure — of dancing with had their favorite two or three moves they repeated in a somewhat graceful fashion, he couldn’t help but be amazed that Chrissie truly was the theater queen she professed she was. The way she danced was reminiscent of something out of Footloose. The way her body maneuvered itself and the passion she felt and the genuine joy he saw on her face was something of a contagious thing.

Seeing her smile like that made Kavi don one of his own and he took her hand, twirling her so she was closer to him. When she was close enough, his free arm came around her waist and he placed it firmly on her lower back, bringing her closer to him. He lowered his head closer to hers because he was a little taller than her, positioning it close to her ear. “Seems like we have a few fans,” he said loud enough so she could hear. “They look jealous of how good you are.” Kavi saw some of the looks people were giving them earlier.

“Please.” Chrissie glanced over to the few individuals he was referring to, like her dearest Kavan, his boyfriend, Archer, Kavi’s ex, and… raising an eyebrow, letting her green gaze fall on Chanel’s form, who was fluidly moving with absolute skill and sex appeal, she took note of how many times the other girl looked at her. Or him? Both of them? Hm.

Perhaps Chanel still had some unresolved issues with Kavi. Well, she wouldn’t be the only one. With unresolved issues towards this man that is. From what Chrissie could gather, it seemed like it was Kavi versus the world. “This isn’t new for me.” She shifted her body to face Kavi once more, bored of the onlookers, and just in time to miss the sight of her cousin. Looking up at him, resting her hands on his chest, she delightfully simpered, curiosity getting the best of her, “One of these fans so happen to be a girl with strikingly dyed red hair. Does that bother you?”

“Not at all!” He was lying. Seeing Ariel over there, he couldn’t quite help himself but feel a little tilted about it. She was the person who initially asked for the break and she--no, I’m not going down that street again. Kavi had to stop himself and diverted his gaze from his ex and to his date. “She’s missing out. I’m a helluva good time. Not my fault she couldn’t handle me at my worst.” Was it cruel of him to say that? Probably. Part of him didn’t feel that way but they agreed to be friends, so he was free to be as handsy with anyone he wanted to.

Smirking, Chrissie leaned in, bringing her lips inches from his, “It doesn’t help you have such a hot date, does it?” And like the tease she was, she pushed away and stuck out her tongue. Two single people, not binded by anyone, with no fucks to give. That’s what Chrissie and Kavi were. “Sucks to suck! If she wanted you so bad, all issues aside, she wouldn’t have let you go.”

Just when he thought he had her figured out, the Queen of Teasing pulled away. And just when Kavi was getting comfortable. But the night was young. They could most certainly find themselves close enough later, so that’s the main reason why Kavi didn’t stress. “My thoughts exactly.” Kavi truly was tired of playing like he had to be the guy that had to change. Both he and Ariel were fucked up, so like the Devil’s Tango, it takes two.

As he scanned the ballroom shortly, he sighed out a bored breath. Out of all of those around, Kavi couldn’t say with any certainty that any were as interesting as Chrissie was. Maybe Ariana but she was with the jackoff of all jackoffs. King’s own Florida Man in the flesh. “So what’s the plan tonight? Cause a little mayhem for some unsuspecting suckers?” He nudged her shoulder teasingly.

“Oh yes-yes-yes.” Chrissie loved the sound of that. Turning on her heel to also scan the ballroom with her date, like predators looking for their next prey, she clapped her hands in excitement, “Ooooooh. I know just the person for me. My lovely friend over there.” She pointed at Shawna, who at the moment was with Jack and Sunshine, “She’s been going through a lot of growth lately. From Kellie, to a little fling with me, and now she has a pocketful of Sunshine! I honestly love this journey for her and should take a moment of my day to hear all about it. How ‘bout you?” The thespian was already treating Kavi like he was one of her best mates, bringing him into tea that not everyone was aware of. Like Chrissie’s and Shawna’s sex adventures.

Kavi followed Chrissie’s arm to Shawna and he saw Jack. He was thrown for a loop seeing Jack with Shawna. He didn’t know much about her (aside from how much she hated him), but she was the last person he expected that literal jackoff coming to the dance with. Then again, perhaps Kavi didn’t know him as well as he thought. He and the other boys liked to tease him for his name, so probably not a lot of opportunity to really get to know the guy. That aside, finding out that Chrissie and Shawna had a thing was probably the least surprising fact. Shawna had a bit of a rep and it was common knowledge her choices in partners didn’t always produce the best outcomes.

“Not sure yet,” he admitted, looking around for someone to play with for a bit. “But I’m sure, when something happens, you’ll know because people here like to get physical with me.” He let out a sigh, ”and not always in the way I like,” Kavi said low enough so that Chrissie was the only one who heard that.

“When that happens, if that happens, I’ll make sure to be your knight-in-a-cute-pink-dress, how’s that sound?” She cheesed up at him, before letting go and dismissing him with a slap in the ass. “Now go get ‘em tiger. Whoever… they are!”

He smirked and laughed. “And you better have some fun too. No use bashing them eyelashes of yours if you don’t go for maximum carnage.” They were truly like two peas in a pod in how they thought and approached many things. “Look for me later when you’re finished with Shawna and the Jagoff and I’ll give you the Kavi Salvador special.” As he walked away, hands in his pants pocket, Kavi turned his head and shot his date a wink.

“Sure thing, babe. You’re not hard to find.” After impishly waving back, her inviting stare looking over her shoulder, she brought her attention to her friend and her girlfriend, Jack had run off somewhere. Probably for the best. Chrissie wasn’t fond of the dude. Sauntering effortlessly, making sure they didn’t notice her, Chrissie came from behind Shawna and covered her eyes, “Guess who!” Following her introduction, she giggled like the childish teen that she was.

At the back of his mind, Kavi was unsure what he wanted to do or even who he wanted to approach. He saw Chrissie had already made contact with Shawna, so it was just a matter of him finding someone of his own. At one point during that initial departure from his date, Kavi had thought about giving Max a good kick in the nuts for old times sake, but he couldn’t find that idiot anywhere. So what was he to do now?

Stopping where he was for a brief minute, his ex-girlfriend caught his eye. She was alone for the most part. People were around her but she wasn’t engaging, it seemed. Contemplating his available choices, he took a quick, hefty sip of his drink and proceeded towards Ariel.

The closer he got to her, the more he became reminded of the awkward nature of their relationship. Exes could be friends but truly how different had things become between them? SInce taking their break, they didn’t talk anywhere as often as they used to. He knew it made sense. Part of the reason they took the break was to figure things about themselves they hadn’t been able to because they were together and always getting into fights. He truly thought he had changed and, in a way, he thought she was past some of her issues. As it turned out, neither of them had changed, not in the way it mattered, at least.

About a yard and a half away from her, Kavi waved at his ex with a genuine smile. “Nice dress!” Kavi noted, resisting every urge that was beckoning him to eye her up and down. Before, when they were together, it was cute, but now it was inappropriate. “You having fun?” Kavi asked, keeping his eyes at eye-level because he knew the temptation to go any lower, while totally worth it, might earn him another broken nose. Instead, he made it his mission to focus on other things - like the enticing babelicious date he came with.

Collab with Ryland @TootsiePop & Marisol @Rosalia

Originally, this felt like a good idea. In the heat of the moment, and with how enticing Marisol was dressed, Ryland found himself unable to resist their shared ploy to cause Sonny (and maybe, Julie too...) to get jealous. The fact that Sonny kept looking their way, there was no doubt in Rye’s mind that they DID get under his skin, still…

There was a small glimmer of hope that if he did something this petty, like have his best friend in his arms right in front of her boyfriend, who was also his best friend, maybe, it could result in Miss Macmillan noticing him. He knew the redhead thought nothing of him. He knew first impressions lasted forever.

She would hold that against him, from now until they no longer crossed paths. His immature outburst and disrespect toward women. His improper manners and his unreasonable anger. While part of him had hoped there was something there, he knew this was a complete lost cause.

He really fucked up.

Coming to a halt, he delicately released his friend and muttered, “What are we doing?” This night was supposed to be fun, but he knew he most definitely caused a rift between two people he loved and most likely looked ten times worse in his crush’s eyes. He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t angry. Moreso at himself than anyone else. He wanted to be there for Sol. He wanted to make her happy, instead of focusing on her boyfriend and his date. He wanted to forget for one fucking second that there was a girl that absolutely disdained him and would never even want a friendship with him.

Lost as she’d been in between the carefree, sensual dancing with Ryland and making sure her boyfriend was watching them closely, it wasn’t until her friend released her that Marisol noticed something was wrong. Frowning, she turned around to face Ry, who was suddenly looking as if someone had punched him in the stomach and randomly asked what they were doing.

“Um, what we said we would do? Make Sonny jealous?” the girl responded without hesitation as if explaining something to a child, rolling her eyes. It had been his idea after all. But when she noticed how distraught he looked, she raised a questioning eyebrow at him. “Is there a problem with that or something?”

Shaking his head, clearly upset, he apologized, “I shouldn’t have come. I’m sorry, Sol. This is overstepping some clear boundaries and now you and Sonny… I don’t know, man. I should go…” Unnerved, which only happens when Rye was about to go off somewhere to hurt himself, like punch a wall or slam his head against something he clearly shouldn’t be slamming his head on, he continued to ramble, “I’m a fucking crap friend and a dissappointment to my father.”

“What the- ?” Marisol blurted out loudly, staring at Ryland as if he’d grown an extra head. His abrupt change in demeanor was definitely freaking her out. They had now garnered the attention of a few of the classmates in their immediate vicinity, so the brunette decided that it was best to take this conversation somewhere else. “Come on,” she told him, and without waiting for his answer, she took his hand and almost dragged him to the entrance of the country club.

Once they were away from the prying eyes and ears of the rest of the King’s crowd, Mari turned to her best friend with a worried expression. He’d seemed so determined to make a statement before, and now that they were achieving it, he was suddenly backing out? Ry wasn’t the type to back out of anything, which made his behavior all the more concerning. “What the fuck is going on, Ryland? Where is all of this ‘I’m a piece of shit’ mood coming from?”

This semester seemed to have a theme of Marisol comforting him and assuring him that things would get better. Relieved they were outside, where he could breathe and calm his nerves, he released her hand and ran all his fingers through his long hair.

Not answering right away, he decided to unbutton his jacket and take it off, throwing it on a nearby bed of grass. “Do you know how unlucky I am, Marisol?” He paced back and forth, clenching his fists. “Whenever I like someone, it never ends up working and when I see Julie, it just dawns on me that I will never be her type. She will never want me.” Before she could say anything, he rapidly continued, “I’ve called Ariel stupid in front of her face and now she probably sees me as some homewrecker. Do you see why I’m a piece of shit? Because I don’t consider anyone else’s feelings.”

“That is not true,” Mari quickly interjected, crossing her arms in front of her chest. What was it with school dances bringing out the worst in her and her friends? It was as if they were cursed or some shit. “You’re not a homewrecker, you’re not a piece of shit, and you have no way of knowing what Julie’s type is to even think she wouldn’t want you. Hell, I don’t think I know what Julie’s type is, and I’ve gone to school with her for over twelve years now!” she passionately stated, scoffing and shaking her head. Impressing Julie Macmillan long enough for her to give you more than five minutes of her time was a feat that very few men had achieved, but who was to say Ry couldn’t do it? “But if she can be best friends with Sonny of all people -who we both know is probably the fucking opposite of everything she represents-, then what makes you think you don’t have a shot, hmm? You’re not going all pussy on me now, are you? Because we both know Ryland Aspen is a fucking bull with balls of steel, not a fucking coward.”

Damn. Why’d she have to go so hard, so quick? Verbally and metaphorically, his best friend slapped him in the face. It didn’t even hurt. It was more like. Wow. She was absolutely right. He had no idea what Julie’s type was, so why the hell was he assuming? He hadn’t even jumped yet to be scared and he wasn’t someone that pussied out because he MIGHT get turned down. He broke more bones than the average teenage boy because of how foolishly fearless he was. This funk that he was in, whatever this funk was, was unlike him. And yeah! Julie somehow became close with Sonny which was basically his brother from another mother. They had a lot of similarities. Not enough to go gay for one another, but that’s not the point. They were BROTHERS-IN-ARMS, waging this war called: highschool. “I am a fucking bull! You’re so goddamn right. Like, what would I do without you? You’re so money, you don’t even know it, Sol.” At this point, his hands were on her shoulders and he was completely pumped. Fire in his eyes.

Fuelled by pure hype and excitement, the beaming Marisol jumped into Ryland’s arms, wrapping both her arms and her legs around his tall frame. She giggled and held onto him tightly as he spun her around, only letting go of her when they were both dizzy. As she was placed back down on the ground, the short girl couldn’t help but think about the irony of the situation. The start of the night had consisted of her feeling down and Rye cheering her up, and now here she was returning the favor. Say what you would about Mari, but she had a real talent for gassing up her friends even when she was the worst at being kind to herself. It was easier to find the virtues of those you loved, anyway.

Grinning, Marisol roughly grabbed Ryland’s face with one hand. “I love you, you piece of shit,” she declared, planted a big kiss on his cheek only to follow up the affectionate gesture with two small slaps to the same area. “You’re a real money machine, Ryland James! Remember that. Now stop being a bitch and go get your girl. You’ve got this in the bag.”

For a second, he thought she’d kiss him in the lips, since this was panning out to feel like a scene right out of a rom com, but he shook that thought out of his head when she encouraged him to confess. “I love you too, you firecracker.” He teased back, even going the extra mile to poke her belly.

Having a new sense of determination, he turned to the door, then turned back to his friend. While he was pumped, he still wanted her to go back inside, with him. “I’m about to put on a show, sooooooooooo if there’s anyone I want there to watch, it’s definitely you. Whaddaya say?

Mari didn’t have to be told twice. Nearly skipping, she climbed onto Ryland’s back like she’d done since they were kids. She made sure that her grip was strong and that she wasn’t showing off her ass to the world before crying out, “Let’s go get ‘em, tiger!”

Leaving his jacket behind, he strode to the door and threw it open. The moment it slammed against the walls, he charged, deciding it was now or never, and hoping they didn’t leave Sonny to his thoughts for too long. As they ran, he playfully swerved like a plane, while Marisol giggled, made the comical little sound effects and had her arms wide open.

Finally reaching the ballroom, he stopped in front of the door to catch his breath, “I’m going to do this. There’s no turning back now.” Kicking the door open, knowing that would probably draw some attention, he entered, still with Marisol on his back. Releasing her, making sure she landed on her feet, he turned and gave her one more bear hug for encouragement.

The girl simply beamed at him, her green eyes sparkling with pride and excitement. “Fucking go for it, man.”

With her final boost, he strode through the dancefloor and straight to the DJ, not letting anyone, not even his friends stop him in his tracks. He made sure when he passed Sonny and Julie he locked eyes first with his friend, and then with his heart’s desire. Reaching the DJ, he shouted, “Yo dude! I got an announcement to make. It’s gonna be good.”

Sonny didn’t know what got into him, but the moment he saw Rye and Mari in each other’s arms, it brought back something he thought he left behind him. Suddenly he was feeling like his old self. That old self that flaunted Nadia in Marisol’s face, the old self who enjoyed bringing up the whole Victoire incident, and, yes, even the old self who made light of her loving confessions. He never fashioned himself as the jealous type (not anymore at least), but something triggered in his mind to where he started to retreat back into old, familiar habits.

For the moment, he pushed those thoughts out, refocusing on where he was being dragged to. He should have figured Julie was tired. He also should have figured that asking her to dance with him to a song that clearly wasn’t meant for friends was too much. In a different life, maybe. But instead, they were by the towering fountain of punch.

As Julie poured him some punch into a red solo cup, the second his lips touched the rim and took a sip, he immediately tasted a stark difference to it before. “Yep. That’s spiked all right.” Sonny let a chuckle leave his mouth naturally and took another sip. He wasn’t a lightweight and he actually liked the way it tasted. He didn’t know what brand of alcohol it was, but given how he was feeling, this was bound to help him forget about it.

Turning around, Sonny half-leaned against the table. He made sure not to put too much pressure on it so he didn’t force the table to collapse. His eyes scanned the area. Part of him was searching for Mari and Rye but the rest of him just wanted to see who was all around. It was nice seeing some people who would otherwise be at each other’s throats get along for once. Of course, he centered on Santiago and Stella. It brought a smile to his face when he remembered she said they were getting along. Not that he ever doubted they would eventually move past their beef, but he knew how Stella acted. So that made him happy.

Sonny turned his gaze on Julie. “I hope you’re having fun. My pain in the ass mother would kill me if you weren’t.” He wanted to laugh but the scary part about knowing his mother inside and out was how likely it was she’d do that. He smiled again, knowing all she wanted for him was to be happy.

A moment after returning his gaze in front of him, Sonny felt a gust of wind pass him. It was like time slowed down for the two boys to lock eyes with each other and Sonny’s gaze followed Rye. Despite his friend slipping into the crowd, Sonny refocused and locked on Rye’s form as he came to a stop by the DJ’s booth. “What is he up to?” Sonny murmured, holding his solo cup with anticipation. Rye had his undivided attention and he couldn’t say if that was a good thing or not and seeing Mari cheering him on was never a good thing. They were up to something. Sonny knew it deep in his gut. Whatever those two had in mind spelled bad news for whomever their target was.

The second Santiago and Stella made their entrance to the country club ballroom, the boy’s gray eyes quickly scanned the area and fell upon a few familiar faces scattered around. Normally, his modus operandi in school dances would be to locate his brother from another mother, scour the area together for the best targets, charm their way to their panties and take the lucky ladies back to their place. However, the cocky, womanizing boy from before was far different from the loyal, faithful man standing in the ballroom today. Tonight, Diablo paid absolutely no mind to the many beautiful girls sauntering and enjoying themselves around the room. He had eyes for one girl, and one girl only. And when his eyes fell on that very pregnant love of his life, the young man couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear.

“Oh my God, look at you!” he cried out happily as he approached them alongside Stella, helping April get up to slowly twirl her around in front of him. He took a few seconds to admire April in all her glowing, radiant beauty before helping the girl take her seat once again. “You look beautiful, Lils. Really”

And hot damn, she did! The burgundy color certainly brought out the browns of her hair and eyes as well as her glowing light skin, and the dress itself did a fantastic job of flattering her slim frame and gently fitting her growing stomach. He’d known how difficult it had been for April to find a dress she felt comfortable in, so he was both relieved and happy that she’d found the perfect one. Hopefully the same boutique or designer could come through for the baby shower dress she’d be needing in the next few weeks.

After he’d affectionately kissed her on the lips and forehead, he turned to his girlfriend’s date with a smile. “Hey, man,” he greeted Archer with two stiff pats to the back. “How’s it going so far? Stell and I just got here, actually. Did anything important happen yet?”

Danielle stood perfectly still as she watched her cousin wander off towards Ariana, rolling her eyes as she turned away mumbling to herself under her breath, "Yeah, okay. Thanks. Like I didn't see that coming." Dani huffed to herself as she tapped her small leather wallet against her thigh, taking a glance around. Maybe she could find Stella or some other familiar face to go pawn herself off on. Suddenly a familiar voice came from her side as she glanced up to see a friendly smile, matching the grin with her own. "Oh my gosh, hey!" The girl shook her head and gave Kavan a look, sighing heavily. "No, no. I came here with Maxwell. You can probably guess where he's off and ran to. Or, should I say, who he ran off to." She gazed off in the direction the couple had gone with a knowing smirk, turning her attention back to her friend.

"Where is your d-"

Dani's words were cut off as she let her voice fade hearing another speaking to Kavan, running a hand through her hair shyly as she glanced out towards the dance floor while she waited her turn to speak to her friend again. Then she realized the voice was now addressing her. The girl turned her attention back towards the young man known as Jasper Fray. Danielle's eyes wandered from his dress shoes to his hand and trailed up his arm to meet his gaze. Tall, blonde, handsome.. and a gentleman? Whew. A small smile spread across her lips as she swapped her wallet in her hands, extending her hand out to take his with a firm but gentle grip. "Danielle Kennedy at yours, my good sir."

Dani stood there a moment before she forced herself to take her eyes from his, glancing over at Kavan as she dropped Jasper's hand to finish the question she had started to ask him before the other young man had showed up. "K-Kavan, where's your date?"
