Felbar and Grandia were at war.

Though, perhaps, you could not have guessed at that fact at the moment. Indeed, in spite of its proximity to the border, the town of Saint Fleur was bustling along at its own, usual pace. A large town, just falling short of being considered a city, business here was just as usual. Certainly, it was growing somewhat sleepier now given it was reaching late evening, but you couldn't have expected just by looking at it that this was a town so close to potential location of intense battle.

The setting sun was painting the cobblestones, and those who walked along them, with an orange glow. Several shops were closing up, the one that was notably still open with no intention of closing down just yet was a purveyor of various trinkets, hybrids of technology and magic that performed rather simple but interesting functions such as light-gathering mirrors or pens that write by themselves. Some people were still going about their jobs, while others were packing up to go home. Several food stands in the center of town, around the statue of 'our Lady' Saint Fleur(the town's namesake, naturally), were closing up for the night, while a nearby restaurant remained open and quite busy, many customers sitting outside in the comfortable temperature of a summer evening.

Just outside town, however, was a reminder of the growing hostilities. The Felbar Royal Army had constructed a base, tents bearing Felbar's colors of blue, white, and gold dotting the landscape in great numbers, and even six sets of greatarmor and several tanks. It was clear that the conflict was intensifying given such a large camp and been assembled so close by. But within the town, you never would have guessed at that fact.

Of course, there were other reasons for the residents of Saint Fleur to be excited.

The girl had declared that she was tired of being cooped up in autonomous carriages and the high-class room reserved for visting members of the royal family.

And so, Princess Vivienne Felvarre Croix was insistent that they take a walk around town. Not simply to bask in attention given by the townsfolk(they'd likely not seen one of the Princesses before, not in real life), but also to experience the town first hand. She had never been outside the capital before, after all! Saint Fleur was smaller, even if it was a quite large town, and it was somewhere she'd been determined to go. Indeed, her stubborn insistence was likely the only reason that she had been allowed to go, along with the nearby military presence, entourage of maids(and her trusted butler), and body guards following her at essentially all times. Vivienne was really rather proud of the crowd she had drawn, but she also wanted a chance to check out all the local shops and meet people on their own, too. That was kind of difficult when she had a full crowd of people following her at all times, now, wasn't it?

"Mister Silverwood!" she declared, "I want to visit some of the shops."

Vivienne's butler seemed to usually know how to handle these matters, so naturally she would as him.

Not everything, however, was bright and cheerful, even at the best of times. And certainly not in the time of a growing war.

The lithe, small figure that now cut across rooftops and through back allies had a singular purpose. There were reports of a spy. A Grandian spy was lurking somewhere in Saint Fleur. The entire purpose of her presence in this town, so close to the border, was specifically to hunt people like that. To kill them, no matter what it required. Yashima's alliance with Felbar guaranteed their aid, even in such small ways as this. They could not lend military aid... so instead they lent one of their assassins.

Fujioka Chisame's geta made not a single sound as they hit the cobblestone. She'd silenced her every movement, not a single soul, except perhaps those who excelled at piercing illusions, would be able to hear her. Of course, they could see her... but she would not be an assassin worth her salt if she had not accounted for that possibility. It was important that everyone saw her as strictly her lady's bodyguard and servant. While certainly she filled that role, that was hardly the only purpose she fulfilled. The suspected spy's movements likely should have brought them to... somewhere around here. One of the oldest buildings in town. Empty, at the moment... or so it should have been.

The Yashiman girl quietly edged forwards, reaching into her kimono to withdraw one of her Altered Machines. Her eyeglass. Raising it to her right eye, she began her observation, the device's properties allowing it to pierce these walls as if they were nothing. If someone was here, she would find them.

On the Grandian side of the border, things were somewhat different.

As close as they could manage, the Grandian Imperial army had assembled their own camp, their own greatarmor units. It was even rumored that a certain... particularly powerful soldier would arrive if a battle began, among the soldiers of Grandia.

The atmosphere was tense, as it always was. Battle could begin at any moment.

And yet...

The sensation that some, those who lived in another world altogether, felt at that moment was something like being lifted. Like they were suddenly being drawn up and away, suddenly torn from their lives to drift aimlessly. Was there a woman's voice? No, it was hard to tell what the sounds around them were. But suddenly the air around them streamed with colors. Suddenly their bodies felt lighter. Or heavier? It was hard to tell. It was like something was being altered. Something about each of them was changing in some way. And then... everything went black.

When each of them came to, their world, perhaps even their bodies, had changed.

But they all had memories. Memories of this new world, of being... someone else. In addition to their memories of their original selves, they had all been given a new life. In a new world.

A world at the brink of an all-consuming war.

Sif

When he had woken up that day, Yamada Jiro had expected nothing worse than having to spend hours filling out the most banal of reports on the minutiae of a project that, although semi-important, held no real interest to him. In no danger of dying from overwork, he would have gotten through the day perfectly fine and in no danger whatsoever--unless it was possible to die from sheer boredom. Though, if that was possible, it was unlikely that someone like him would have ever gotten to adulthood in the first place. Instead, there was some sort of transition and...

Well, it wasn't a position that Sif could see much in. Even worse than that, her memories of the events leading up to her current position were naturally rather spotty--a panicking child was hardly going to remember, in much detail, how she'd been separated from her parents and carried off. Though with a substantially older and unflappable personality, she was beginning to take in her surroundings in detail.

Unsurprisingly, it was some sort of temporary camp, set in rolling hills--probably close enough to civilisation that they could do the hard part of finding a buyer, she would wager, but not so close that it would be obvious what the slavers were up to. Aside from that, her view was rather limited; it seemed that no chances were being taken where magic was confirmed. Not only was she bound and gagged, a chain attached her to the cage that she was in... and if she wasn't mistaken, it was designed to prevent any magic from going straight from the inside to the outside. At least there was one positive--she appeared to be the only one currently in this situation, which meant that nobody wanted to risk damaging the merchandise.

Hopefully someone would come along soon, before the reality of the situation set in and it stopped seeming so surreal.

"Go to visit your cousin living on the Grandian border", her parents had said, "It'll be an educating experience for you while we work back home on a...special task" they had added.

So the teenage Alv/Cat Beastkin hybrid had gone towards the appointed spot on the border, even as far as seeing the town her cousin lived in from a distance at that. However, things had not been so good looking even from there. Granadian military Greatarmor and tanks and troops could be seen even from a distance in the town and around it assembling and such, a thing that screamed to her mind to "get the hell out of here" as it were. Not that she was running from the military, but walking into a militarily-occupied zone on the border was also not a good idea. Not even she was curious enough to enter that place in such a state.

So she had proceeded to go past that town, sneaking and stalking through the woods and wilderness to move on over the border into Felbar without so much as trying to meet her cousin. As it were, she was more curious about what was going on in the neighboring nations right now, even as her parents likely were helping in some military production endeavor if she had to place a guess on it. Then again, a few miles past the border and BAM....things had changed. New memories of another life. Another self coming into the picture with who she was...if that guess was even remotely correct. Was "she" the one who she now remembered, or was "this" her some sort of falsification that had been put into her mind along with "that other her".

Argh, it was all confusing, but all the same she felt just like normal in either respect, just with a lot more to her now than before. Whether "that" her or "this" her was the original or something else, they seemed rather compatible in her eyes and in her mind.

After taking a day or two to adjust to the surge of these memories and such into her mind, Vashti had made it a point to get deeper into Felbar territory to get away from the danger zone. That, at least, would be a good idea...and give her a chance to sate her curiosity on how things were in this country. She only had ever known life in Grandia, which had not been the best nor the worst, but now being in a new nation she had become intrigued by their ways and such. And, potentially, could find some discarded Altered Machines or such to tinker with from here as well! Was the tech here any different? Was it the same? Did they have different sorts of things they made here in terms of machinery and such? At least, if anyone did that like back in Grandia where she had lived in one of the big, developed cities, she could take a look at things.

"Hey, somebody stop that thief!!!" an angry and vehement voice cried aloud into the street, the voice coming from a shop only a few stores down from where Vivienna and her very sizable entourage were. In fact, the princess and her entourage would see clearly the shop from where the noise came....and from where the accused "thief" emerged from to boot.

"That and the slap are what you get for trying to grab my butt, jerk!" another voice cried back into the store aloud as a teenage, blue haired girl who looked like a normal Alv, but with twin cat-tails swishing slightly behind her like a cat beastkin, swiftly emerged onto the street from one of the stores owned by those magitech trinket purveyors. Further, in the girl's arms were several magitech trinkets in particular, random ones she had nabbed from the shelves on her way out.

To Vashti, it was fair that she take a little recompense from this guy who had tried to touch her butt in the store as she had looked about with a fascination for some of the Felbar-specific mechanical and magic trinkets that had dotted the store. What a way to treat a customer, much less someone who had taken the real risks to get over here and try to be safe before things got any worse on the border! Hmph! But that bit of agility she had inherited from her father's side was helpful in running out of the store, at least.

Looking side to side quickly immediately after leaving and finish shouting back at the store manager, the half-Alv's face turned into slight shock as she saw the large and varied entourage not far off, especially in regards to noting the visage of the cute teenage princess standing there with some silver-haired butler. Tilting her head slightly, Vashti smiled and waved at the princess for a moment before bolting once more. Though not a professional runner or such, she has at least a small bit going for her as she tried to reach the other side of the large street and aim for an alleyway. After all, if she wanted to break these down and tinker or such, she needed to get out of here and escape the cops and soldiers. Which, hopefully, would not be the hardest thing to do.

"Wheeee!~" A voice high above the city laughed loudly as a human sized object zoomed through the air. They had told her to stay put in the military camps and labs, but she just couldn't resist the allure of the open world so easily. Her entire two years of life had practically been spent indoors, doing various training scenarios and honing her skills. The scientists said she'd have the rest of her life to see the world, but something just drove her to see everything as it was now. Impatience? Curiosity? A bit of both. Both of those emotions seemed apt. She supposed she could have taken a few more of her things with her - her rifle and combat suit for example, but that seemed needless. She wasn't planning on starting another war.

Even if it seemed like she found herself in the middle of a military zone.

"Ahaha~" She laughed again, rolling through the air as her magic kept her afloat in the air. Despite the military build up, it didn't seem like she was too concerned with it. She was confident in her ability to not get dead. Besides, this was what they had built her for after all. No need to be shy about it, and she liked to think she had a good handle on her abilities. Besides, even if there was seemingly a brewing conflict...it was still oddly peaceful to her. The sun setting, the air...but perhaps that was because she only had been 'alive' for a short time.

She closed her eyes, and took a breath of air. Or she would have, had she been capable of breathing. She didn't get to enjoy it long before there was a small beep from one of the service bots, alerting her to an imminent 'flight hazard'. The Hazard in question? He statue of that famous saint and she was pretty sure she was heading right on a collision course with it at nearly mach speeds.

"Gah Brakes! Brakes! I need brakes!" She shifted her body, her flight path veering itself towards the right, just barely missing the statue but didn't seem to slow at all. Instead, she shifted her flight path again before veering off to the right, deciding it'd be best to shut off the spell, she let herself fall into the cobblestones of the ground.

"Oof!" She hit the ground hard, tumbling across the cobblestone road, coming to a halt only when she slammed into the stall of a food vendor - rather comically, her head was on the ground with her legs resting on the side of the food stall....aaand giving pretty much everyone a rather nice view of her undergarments if they so decided to look.

"Wahaha...and here I thought I aced all the flight tests." She laughed lightly. One of the service bots beeped in complaint at the rough landing, earning a grin and another laugh from the Automata. "Hey, just because you didn't alert me earlier don't mean I'm a bad flier. Now shush, Phi!~" She rolled backwards, landing on her feet and standing up, seemingly not too damaged or bothered by the high velocity impact. Magic shields were fun, yo!~

"Hup!" She stood and dusted off her clothing, not caring too much about the stares she was obviously getting as she walked over to the vendor she had almost crashed into. "Hey hey, sorry about that. Got a liiiitle bit carried away, heh." She fished a couple of coins out of her pocket and tossed them to him. "Here ya go! Compensation and all that." With a laugh Cynthia quickened her pace and headed down the street as the man simply shrugged, and set about closing up the shop once again.

The Automata moved swiftly down the streets, taking in the sights of the city, and all it had to offer. She had never been to a city before! It was a little overwhelming to be honest, but she was going to have fun with it anyways. As soon as they found her she was getting in so much trouble it wasn't gonna be funny. Actually, it might be funny seeing how red their faces get, heh.

"Hey, somebody stop that thief!!!"

Before she could enjoy it more though, her ears picked up something troublesome. A thief? Here? How rude! Thievery was bad, yes? Cynthia stopped walking, and in a comically robotic fashion turned towards the source of the noise.

"That and the slap are what you get for trying to grab my butt, jerk!" For a few seconds, Cynthia simply stood there, trying to process the information. It seemed one party was accusing another of thievery. The accused party was accusing the accuser of touching...their butt?

"Hey...Rho, why would someone wanna touch someone else's butt?"

A series of beeps followed.

"Eeeh? What do you mean I'm to young?" A series of other beeps followed. "Tsk, I didn't ask you Phi you meanie. I'm not Naive or innocent. I am a war machine built for making big explosions...." She grumbled, pouting as if her feelings had been hurt by her unseen companions, not realizing that it probably looked like she was talking aloud to herself. Hmm, even so, thievery was bad...so...she was designed to 'keep the peace' or something so...shouldn't she deal with that?

"Hey hey, we're gonna catch a thief, and don't try and talk me out of it Phi you spoilsport." Her feet lifted off the ground again, hovering a few inches over the ground as she zoomed down the street, aiming to catch up with the thief in question. In her haste, she zoomed right past the princess in question, not even realizing who it was. In fact, she might not have even realized who it was even if she was standing right in front of her. Regardless - the Automata zoomed after the thief, having little trouble at catching her.

"Hey hey, thief! If ya return what ya stole, I won't have to explode ya!~"

— Slavers Camp —

A pale reptillian tongue flicked out, pulling what scents he could from the air. As opposed to the suit he would have worn in a city he was bared to the waist with just his weapons harness cutting across his chest. Grimlit hadn't eaten for three days but that wasn't any sort of problem, he could go a month if he had to. Well, it smelled like there was some sort of camp nearby and though they were taking care to not light any fires it wouldn't help to hide them from him. Whoever they were, it was likely they would have food.

There were even odds between having to buy or fight for it. Well, given the way things were going right now and how they were hiding things leaned a bit more towards the latter. It wasn't exactly unheard of for soldiers to desert and turn bandit when war seemed imenant and with the soldiers tied up near the border there was nobody to deter more traditional banditry. Either way, there may be a bounty in it for him.

Grimlit dropped onto all fours and lithely moved through the grass. His banded patterning helped him to blend in and many years of practice meant he disturbed it no more than a small animal would. Thirty paces ahead there was a sentry, his scent strong and, despite what care he had taken to hide, the heat his body made visible.

The lizardman circled carefully to the left, towards the mans dominant hand. It would be easier to pin his weapon from that side if he made any move to draw. But he didn't. Even with whatever careless alerted him the conclusion was inevitable. Without even giving him time to utter a cry Grimlit caught his neck in a powerful grip and tore out his throat even as he pushed him to the ground.

Grimlit remained prone for several of his slow heartbeats before moving again. Near the top he stopped again and slowly lifted his head above the crest. Seven tents and a cart with a cage. Ten horses. Slavers then, at least ten of them. Well, nine now but likely more. Not terrible odds for a sneak attack but nothing that should be rushed. If they had one sentry out then there should be more and the easiest way to find out would be to wait for a change of watch.

He settled back down on the crest and waited as the day grew warmer. What a nice morning to bask in the sun.

It had been nearly an hour before the changover. The hour of watching gave him a count of thirteen slavers, after he killed the replacement for the first one. He would have to move quickly before someone noticed that only five of the six sentries returned. He chose a route that took him behind a tent where he lifted the corner and killed the man inside leaving seven in the camp with another five outside.

His next move put him next to the cart. He looked above the edge to observe the rest of the camp and get a better look at the small girl they had taken. His original intent had been to slaughter the camp and disappear, letting the sentries live to send a message. Now his prioroties had changed.

Unfortunatly the cage was locked and she had been bound. Grimlit had little time to come up with a better plan but he was never one to hesitate. With a violent twist he tore the door from the cage, with another quick movement he reached in and twisted the chain, breaking it where it attached to the cage. It had been quick but that was all the time he had before being spotted.

There was a shout and a shot fired into the air so he grabbed the girl, still bound and took off at a run.

Dustin took a long deep breath and sighed with a smile. "Smells like a pigs ass out here," he said aloud to his fellow soldiers as they worked on a trench outside of their camp. The men chuckled and gave nods of agreement as they continued their work. Dustin rested his spade on his shoulder and wiped the sweat and dirt from his forehead. He stood atop the trench and looked out towards the main camp. A small smile of pride came to his face as he watched a few Greatarmor units march into the camp, heavily equipped and ready for battle. He wouldn't mind piloting one of those things, but for now he was to lead his troops within the frontlines. He had no problem with it and glanced down to his men with a smirk. "Better hurry up boys, I hear they're bringing a bit of refreshments to help lift our spirits," he grinned with joy. One of his men stopped and looked to him with a raised eyebrow.

"Refreshments sir? Isn't that a bit risky seeing as how we're on the frontlines?" he asked with a bit of concern. Dustin nodded and wagged his finger.

"Ya got a point there. Alright boys everyone but Hans drinks tonight!" he ordered, causing his men, except Hans of course, to cheer and laugh. Dustin chuckled and shook his head. "Just kidding Hans. I understand your hesitation, but have you seen the camp lately? Half of the men are looking as if their days are numbered, or that they are ready to abandon their post. Something to calm their nerves will be good for us," he said and looked back to the camp. "When this war does start, we'll be needing every man ready with high spirits on the line," he finished and tightened his grip on his spade. He knew this war was going to happen soon, but all this waiting is only causing morale to waver and nerves to shrink. He let out a heavy sigh and shook his head as he hopped back down to the trenches with his men. "Come on ladies, lets get this over with!" he barked and smiled to see his men working faster. He loved being in charge.

Orion Tanbei

Location: St. Fleur
Interaction: @VitaVitaAR

There had been recent talk about the war that would shake both Felbar and Grandia, and it was certainly here. Orion was well aware of that. However, he cared little for this. He could always get out whenever he wanted to by using his Altered Machine that was made for him to carry his items. However, it was also made so that he could be able to get out safely. However, St. Fleur has been quite lively despite the obvious war that was close to coming to an open. He saw the war trenches and camps being set up when he came here, and he knew that wasn't good.

But come on, there was still business to be done. While there were few shops open now, his was one of those open ones. He would often close up very late at night so that he could get some late-night customers who he knew would at least give him more income. Like he thought, there were still people who were looking for some trinkets and various little collector's items. He wasn't about to get sold out just yet, he had a lot of stock still in his merchant's carriage. His position allowed him to be attacked by the scents of the closing food shops and the open restaurant. He was getting quite hungry. Maybe he should close up after an hour or two so he could get some food. Orion's ears flicked as he heard some rather energetic voices.

There had been commotions further into the town. Apparently, the princess of Felbar has come to the town of St. Fleur. He was quite surprised since this place was too close to the tensions of the two countries. However, he wouldn't really brush her off. This was a great opportunity for him, and he kind of was curious what the princess of this place looked like. It wasn't everyday you would meet one of the royals.

However, it wouldn't just be about sucking it up to the royal family. He didn't need that kind of connection right now really. He was just a merchant who wanted to sell something. Orion waited patiently in front of his carriage while sitting reminiscent to that of a Yashima resident, which he was. The customers were dwindling but with the appearance of the Princess, this might get him more customers since they were all out to see her.

"Hey, somebody stop that thief!!!"

"That and the slap are what you get for trying to grab my butt, jerk!"

Orion's ears twitched once more and he turned to the source of the voices. There seemed to be a blue-haired Alv running away, but her two tails made him think he was a mixed breed. He wasn't keen on getting into the situation. However, from the sound of it, the blue haired Alv-Beastkin sounded like she had been groped. Orion glared at the shopkeeper and then looked back at the thief. "Good luck kiddo." He said with a nod, but not loud enough for the guards to hear him.

He then took in a breath as he vaulted off of his position and then boomed out, using his merchant's voice. "Come one, come all! The Tanbei family's carriage has come into town! From magic trinkets to herbs unique to other countries, we have it all! If we don't have it, I assure you we'll get it for you for a little extra price!"

Orion then eyed the Princess and walked towards her. Fortunately for him, she was quite close this time. "Pardon me princess, but may I interest you in some of our wares?" He asked with a small bow before gesturing to his carriage, which was open to see his merchandise that he could offer.

Jiro had never been the religious type, unsurprisingly, but Sif was--in a sort of vaguely believing but not really following manner. It was something that she would have to put more consideration in for the long run, provided that her rescuer hadn't grabbed her to be a meal or get all the profits or any other number of possibilities that would mark this as no real change from the status quo. She'd never been any good at trust-building exercises, so it was hard to put her faith in a strange reptilian beastfolk that had come out of nowhere with nary a warning--though so soon after she'd thought about getting free...

She'd have to consider this more. If magic was certainly a thing, why not divine intervention?

Byron Silverwood

The decision of the princess, childish as she was, had made Byron particularly worried for the near future. Placing the sudden two decades' worth of memories spontaneously inserted into his mind, the silver-haired servant was particularly certain that letting a member of the royal family wander about when the country was on the verge of war was not only incredibly selfish and frivolous, but also insanely dangerous. But, as his job dictated, he had no room to go against his mistress' orders. He had hoped, of course, that someone with enough of a will to oppose the headstrong princess would intervene, but it was simply that—a hope, and no more.

And so here they were, in the middle of a town, witnessing a robbery in broad daylight after the princess requested that he bring them around town to the shops. While he could by no means condone any sexual harassment (if the girl's comment was anything to go by), he was also not in a position to be exacting any vigilante justice. Before he was any sort of person, he was the princess' servant, and forsaking his job to give chase would be the pinnacle of foolishness.

"Understood, princess. I would suggest we avoid the shop that was just robbed moments prior, for the sake of the dignity of everyone involved—for the moment, at least. Ideally, if you wish to visit a larger variety of shops without causing a disturbance, we should be arriving earlier tomorrow, while the townsfolk are still preparing to go about their day. At this time, you would inconvenience many a shopkeeper by imploring them to stay open so that you may explore; a model member of the royal family must be aware of the citizens' situation and not impose their will upon others haphazardly. If you desire to see a shop's wares even so, though, I shall not stop you; simply choose a location and we shall set off posthaste," he stated calmly, bowing his head ever so slightly before the sound of a rather loud merchant caught his attention. He paid it no mind, of course, until he began to address the princess directly.

"Worrisome. I shall be on guard."

Shooting a wary glance at the merchant calling for her attention, Byron turned to the princess and nodded his head.

"That merchant, on the other hand, seems to be calling for your attention. I shall leave this decision up to your judgement," he concluded, standing by as he quietly stood by to the side. Everything he needed to defend her in case of an emergency was ready on his person, and, as always, his eyes and ears remained open for any sign of hostility, however discreetly he remained aware.

Princess Vivienne Felvarre Croix

Everything suddenly became very... frenetic. There was... a thief? And people running about? What was with all of this? Vivienne huffed, frowning deeply as she watched the situation. Someone was petty enough to go committing a theft right now? She had half a mind to send someone after them... But she was swiftly distracted by the merchant calling to her. Unless the matter became even more inflated, she would heed her butler's words... for now.

"Fine, fine, Mister Silverwood," she said, waving her hand to the man, "We'll check out the shops tomorrow. But for now...!"

She quickly strolled over to the merchant. So he was giving her special attention, huh? Well of course he was! She was a Princess, after all, and that meant that giving her special attention was only natural. Not that anyone else wasn't worth being treated well, but she was going to lead the country some day, right? Or... some country, or... well, the important thing was that she'd have some kind of important position! So, naturally, Vivienne felt it was only right to treat her extra well, since she was going to have a very important job in the future.

"So, you have items worthy of one of Felbar's radiant Princesses?" asked Vivienne, leaning forward to attempt to inspect any goods that the merchant may have been selling.

The early morning sun shone directly into Raulphs eyes, his room was situated directly adjacent from the rising sun, the window was worse being tilted in a fashion that allowed the sun to shine in his room at any time of the day before noon. Raulph pulled a blanket over his face before hearing the morning trumpet, hordes of soldiers exited the compound and made almost as much noise as the drill sergeants, many of which were redfaced and shrieking at the poor kids in rifle companies, Raulph remembered those days. His morning was ruined with the sun and the noise, he would rather wake up later if at all possible, he sat up and rubbed his tears from his eyes, yawning. An hour later Raulph was in the mess hall, many of the men had gone through early morning PT and drill before breakfast, Raulph simply didn't need to unless he really wanted, however, he stays true to his roots and maintains his muscular build. Sausages and eggs, toast, last nights dinner, that was on the menu, military food was usually varying and much better than commoner food. A squad of grunts were talking about Raulph, they knew he was a pilot, plain as day, his pilot fatigues and rank denotes his place in the military, quite obviously, a pilot. He stood after finishing his meal and left the room, leaving the tray on the counter next to the kitchen, the other two pilots followed soon after, not so much his friends as they are his workmates, Finn and Diane.
Raulph approached the huge armour storage unit, the front of the unit opened and inside stood hulking metal beasts lying dormant in wait of its pilot, Raulph was magically ascended to the top of his suit, an armour technician and his commanding officer were waiting near the hatch.
"Ah, corporal, we were just talking about you." The lieutenant said as soon as he touched down, he was a nobleman, much like the rest of the officers, nobles would never become common soldiers nor would they take charge of rifle companies, but that's only the self centred nobles, there are plenty noble nobles but this one wasn't.
"Sir.?", Raulph came to attention, the officer waved and Raulph went back to his usual manner, the lieutenant rubbed his chin.
"Were expecting an attack from Felbar very soon, but, not now, hopefully, instead I'll have you go to the front and support the trench line with your team. Also, I'll have you bring them something to keep their spirits up, just some food and drink, nothing too special."
"Sir, I have no problem with bringing the men food, but, how am I supposed to do that?"
"Simple." The technician said, "we'll strap it to your legs."
"excuse me?"
"The crates of food will be tied around the ankles for easy access by the men."
"ugh"
The armour whirred into motion and straightened, one huge step and the suit was out of the unit, followed closely by two other suits belonging to Finn and Diane, when they stepped beyond the walls of the military compound the three diverged to different areas of the trench line, crates of tightly packed meats and fruits and grog hung on either side of the armours ankles, truly a strange sight. The trench line came close, Raulph pulled the brakes quite close, he could see the whole area, the trench line, the compound and the Felbar border, not a new sight, he'd been at the front lines before. Raulph turned on the magical speaker system, "Attention, this is corporal pilot Mauser, suit number two two four nine one zero, I have been assigned as armoured support in the front, you will find supply crates at my ankles, courtesy of the Grandian Armoured corps." he said this with a booming metallic voice, dramatic and unlike his own voice, now all that was left was to sit in the cockpit until he was called back.

Dora

"Clunk clunk clunk---" Clutters of hammerings were made as Dora scraps her goods with her hammer & file at the town of Saint Fleur. Her vendor, fitting for her size, was a small one, like a lemonade stand. Her stall is full of scrapped Grandian equipments, some of those unworked ones coloured with bloodstains. In front of her stall was a note with scribbled handwriting: "Steal anything and I'll rip ye throat ~"

Demands for weapon parts are high recently, and her stocks are depleting faster than usual. Dora was working on overtime today, because she was preparing to restock those 'Grandialites' from the Grandia border at midnight, where its dark enough for her to harvest them with a dagger & rifle.

Rubbing away her sweat with her rough blistery hand, Dora tiptoed and stretched out her hand towards her table for her plate of bread, putting her hammer at one side, making for a short break. She wasn't sure on the commotion on the street at this timing, her petite height and the evening crowd makes it hard for her to discern the situation. Either, it will be a busy night. "Grughh, Another round of treasure hunting~" Her voice muffled through the unswallowed pieces of bread.

Vashti

As it were, the shopkeeper had not pursued her. This princess-looking girl nor anyone around her had seemed to pursue her. No random, ordinary citizens had decided to pursue her. No other shopkeeper had even tried for the moment to trip her up or such. So she was all good at this point when it came to her getaway, right? Right?

...Nope.

As she glanced over her shoulder as she reached the other side of the street whilst running, she noted someone, or some Automata or something, flying after her through the air like some kind of missile aimed at her. On top of that, this pursuer was threatening to...wait explode her?! As in, literally "explode" her like scatter her body all over the place in tiny pieces? Not exactly a threat that would ring well in the half-Alv's ears as she hastened her pace and was about to make her next move since the alley now seemed not as good as it had before. After all, in a straight, moving chase she wasn't going to outrun this...person, thing, whoever they were. But...

"You really gonna explode someone, in a public place no less? Who raised you like that?" Vashti said aloud back towards the naive, pursuing Automata, a grin on her face as she spoke and was nearly tempted to chuckle aloud.

As she finished speaking, Vashti darted to the side into one of the still-open stores lining the sides of the street. Really, it was still just on the other side of the street from where the princess was. Though while not seemingly her wisest choice, as the half-Alv ran and half-stumbled through the store and the few customers there, she dropped a few of her trinkets and grabbed a couple more that fell in front of her as she blitzed towards the back door of the establishment. Sounds of surprise from the customers and store owner came out as Vashti made her break for the back door, which would likely lead to another alley.

Not that she was going through the door yet or at all, but if her pursuer believed she was and went around to try to "cut her off", then it might help her situation a bit more~

Orion Tanbei

Location: St. Fleur
Interaction: @VitaVitaAR@PKMNB0Y

Orion saw that the butler/bodyguard of the young princess was cautious of him. Understandable, he wasn't going to speak ill of it. After all, that was his job. It was just like what Orion himself was doing right now - he was a merchant, so he was going to advertise his merchandise to anyone in the area. However, he still gave the man a small smile and a nod before looking back at the princess who seemed enthusiastic with going around to look at the shops.

He then bowed his head once more as the princess headed over to the carriage to browse the many items displayed. His brain kicked into overdrive to think of anything she might like. He always encountered a problem with knowing which item would interest a customer because he didn't know them at all. However, from social standings to age, he could at the very least try. His tail swished in excitement because, truly, this was actually pretty much a rare occurrence.

"Well, for a fair princess such as yourself, might I interest you in this magical book?" He asked, bringing up the dark blue leather-bound book. "Now why would you be interested in this you ask? Well, it has been imbued with magic so that anything you write or draw in this notebook cannot be seen by anyone else than you, or those you choose. This will be quite useful for your later political missions, if you think about it. If anyone would steal it, then they wouldn't be able to read anything on it correct?" The notebook wasn't as famous with normal people than those in positions of power. Just like his reasoning, they seem to favor it over using normal ones. Unfortunately, these books had slowed down in production after its main producer had died. Orion had been saddened by this news before but life must continue on.

Orion placed the book back on the carriage and then took out a small box. He then opened it to show a beautiful golden necklace with a jade pendant adorned by a golden dragon. "Ah, here we go." He then took the necklace off of the box and then presented it to the princess. "This is from another country, close to Yashima itself. It's a symbol of power and authority in their area. I've only gotten my hands on this thanks to a barter with another royal, such as yourself." He then gestured for her to extend her hands and then placed the necklace on to her hands. "He told me that it's imbued with magic that only activates at an eclipse. I've never tested it out but it is you who would choose if you would believe it."

He allowed the princess to look at the trinket longer as he began pondering while looking at his merchandise of what she would want. Honestly, what would a princess girl want? Certainly, she wouldn't be looking for something that could potentially kill her political enemy to settle a feud since she was probably too young for that. Perhaps a sort of medicine then? He could offer something that could amplify magical power but she certainly has loads of those in the castle. Perhaps attempting to sell something to a princess who has access to a lot of objects isn't the best idea.

— Slavers Camp => Forest —

After the initial warning shots there was a pause that he used to push his head start. Seconds later more rang out as he hunched over to protect the child and present a smaller target. Grimlit had no doubt he could escape them on foot. Taking the time to mount their horses would also put them further behind.

There was another burst of rattling gunfire and a round took him in the back, causing him to stumble for a few steps before recovering. Now he was over the hill where the first sentry was and out of their line of sight. Grimlit cut to his left, towards a nearby forest. It might be an obvious location but it would give him an advantage.

"I thought Alvs were supposed to have magic. Couldn't you have incinerated them or something?"

He shouted, not regarding the fact that she was still gagged. He paused for a second and then stopped behind a tree to tear through the bindings with his claws.

Why were they shooting? Had they forgotten about keeping their merchandise intact? She'd been banking on such a thing making it much easier for them to get away but with gunfire it seemed far more likely that they'd both end up buried in a shallow grave soon--except, unexpectedly, her benefactor appeared to be far more resilient to gunfire than could have been predicted... though the lizardman also seemed perturbed by the lack of magical support. At least she now had the ability to object to the idea: "I'm nine. I was taught how to clean dishes, not destroy armies when I couldn't move!"

~Cynthia~

@Crusader Lord

"Uhm, the guys who made me?" Cynthia replied with a bright grin. "It's what I was built for, so I gotta do it, right?~" She giggled, zipping after the thief. Another series of beeps followed as Phi questioned why she was being so chummy with a target. Pfft, she ignored him for the most part. It's not like she had a reason to actually hate or dislike the thiefy person, so why shouldn't she be chummy with them? Of course, she was busy internally debating that she almost missed the thief making a sharp turn into a still open store.

"Ah-!" She zoomed past the store, having to slam on the brakes again, nearly running into another person, having to angle her trajectory upwards to avoid it. Ack, she had lost sight of her. A series of beeps from Phi and Rho, followed by a holographic screen being displayed in front of her. Uhm, now what was the best course of action here? Follow her in? Try to cut her off? Or option C? Option C was likely to be fairly unexpected and would catch her quarry completely off guard, buuut...she was told she couldn't just blow a hole in the ceiling of a building in a public space in a non-war zone.

Spoilsports.

Hm...

"Ah! Phi, Rho." She grinned. "Watch the front door, will ya?" A series of beeps followed, and a clicking noise was heard as if something was unlatching or unlocking. Two, thin, oval shaped extremely high tech looking objects floated up from her back, only very briefly revealing a series of clockwork inner workings before a panel covered it again. The objects themselves were slim, barely an inch thick and, being completely flat and around three inches in diameter across at their longest point. They were made of smooth, black metal with a glowing blue core.

A series of disapproving beeps from Phi were completely ignored.

"Alright, alright. I'll go find a back door, yeah. Tells me if ya see that thief!" 'Phi' and 'Rho' as it seemed their names were made a series of beeps as Cynthia lowered herself to the roof of the building. The dog-like altered machines took towards the front entrance, hovering on either side of the door to avoid detection from the inside. Meanwhile, Cynthia plopped down right by the backdoor to the building.

"Haha, flawless plan. Rho and Phi guard the front doors, and I'll stay here. Bwahahah!" She seemed rather pleased with herself, at least. She didn't take into account Rho and Phi had almost zero combat or restraining ability besides tracking targets and information gathering.

Vashti

Suddenly turning rapidly on her heel, Vashti stopped herself in place and hide behind the cashier's desk in the store, only chancing peeping around the side at the front door to see if whatever had been chasing her followed her in. Apparently not having been followed in by her flying nemesis, who had given away a bit more info than perhaps should have been, the half-Alv let out a sigh of relief before pulling her head back behind the desk again. Jeez, what day was it that she was followed by some military Automata, if her pursuer's words were to be taken literally in part with the altered machine seeming naivete. But at least the robot had seemingly avoided blowing the place up or crashing inside like an idiot. That was actually smart, though was also something the half-Alv had counted on.

"Miss, what in heavens are you doing" the cashier asked her, the woman giving her a steep frown as she put her hands on her hips.

Blinking in realization she was actually in another store, the adrenaline fading just a little as she was sitting, Vashti looked up at an frustrated looking human cashier woman and gave a sheepish smile.

"Eh, the guy in the shop down the street tried to touch my butt while i was looking at the trinkets he sold....so i slapped him and grabbed a few of his things as payment before running off," she said, her tone slightly guilty but with a notable mischievous tint to it that she could not help but have leak through, "Now i have some crazy military automata that is chasing me, aaand that about sums it up."

The cashier sighed aloud, running one of her hands down her face in exasperation at the story and moment, though having seen said "robot" fly by just after the half-Alv dipped in....it seemed believable. That and one of her customers had noted hearing a shout about a thief not too long ago....she did not get payed enough to deal with all of this, to be frank. Not payed enough at all. Still, she knew the guy this random girl with a Granadian accent was talking about. She hated that guy. And though this girl sounded Granadian, it wasn't enough in the cashier's eyes to

"Tell you what, kid, i'll give you some help in getting out of here and one or two trinkets were have to throw away anyways, but only if you drop the stuff you stole so we can bring it back to the guy, ok?" the employee said, letting out a deep and tired sigh before looking back up at the doorway and then back at the thief in her midst, "My manager won't notice, we get rid of some crap, that ass of a guy gets embarrassed, and you get out of here without getting my store or customers vaporized. Deal?"

The half-Alv went into a thoughtful look for a minute...before allowing a large grin to cross her face in the process. Hey, it was some help she hadn't expected, but it was more than welcome in her book. Besides, the fun of doing some improvisation to get out with broken items wouldn't be bad, right?

"Yeah, you have a deal!", Vashti said, giving a hearty nod to the employee as they nodded and went back to grab the items.

A few moments later they returned, a portable mirror in hand and a small toy rat, both of which she handed down to Vashti with a look of desperation to just get this over with, though perhaps in some small part rooting for the upbeat half-Alb in all of this. After all, it did kill the monotony of the day and added something to her list of stories to tell her family at home.

"A broken mirror that absorbs too much light and shines like a spotlight due to the enchantment having been made wrong, and a returned magitech mouse that is supposed to play with cats, but just makes a lot of smoke and noise while moving around erratically because the wiring is defunct.... Good luck."

With that, the cashier looked back up and returned to her job, leaving Vashti with little tools and...mmm, perhaps an idea forming. Actually, she had an idea after looking at the items. A rough and desperate one, but hey, it was worth a shot to get out of here.

After a minute the door to the shop would open, and after a second a small, mechanical mouse would zip out of the door in front of Rho and Phi. Perhaps some child had decided to play with it? Though after a minute, things got decidedly odd as the mechanical mouse began to produce smoke, more and more as it began to sputter, cough, and make screeching rat noises like it was about to go "pop" on the sidewalk right in front of the doorway.

At the same time, however, something or someone leapt through the smoke, dashing out of the front of the shop door with what seemed like a cracked mirror in their left hand. Actually, the person leaping through the smoke and making a run for it was the dog-like robots' target! Indeed, Vashti was bolting away, running back across the street, unintentionally in the direction of a certain princess and her entourage who seemed to be indulging a shop-keeper at the moment. But given that the automata had not blown the roof off of the place, despite talking of exploding her, the half-Alv decided to take the chance this automata would not fire any weapons around a group of people. Much less around nobility of all things. Or at least, that was what Vashti was guessing the princess-dressed girl she had waved to was.

"I wish i had time to wire these things......could've been fun......stupid robot.....," Vashti said to herself quietly, pouting for a moment like a child with puffed cheeks before returning to her usual self again as she ran forwards at all the speed her legs could carry her, mirror ready in case she heard her pursuer behind her again. Because if that happened...maybe she was ready this time? Really, she hadn't the time to think this through much, much less think of how she was going to escape this entourage of people after getting over to them and trying to once again ditch the military automata of all things that was chasing her.

But hey, the times were tough, and she had to get going.

"Everybody move, there's a crazy military automata chasing me!" the half-Alv shouted as she continued her fleeing right towards where the merchant, princess, and as she could now see some silver-haired guy as well. Odd.

Byron Silverwood

The princess' agreement to not pestering other shopkeepers was more than enough reason to let out a small sigh of relief, barely audible over the lingering activity on the streets. Even among royals, his mistress' hotheadedness and vivacity was hard to compete with—or would it be more apt to say especially among royals? Thankfully, his patience hadn't waned in whatever time he had spent working with the royal family, though he would have much preferred working in the service of her elder sister. As things were now, the merchant seemed to be acting as a merchant might: fast-talking, acting in a way that would overpower someone psychologically if they weren't aware...

"Or, at the very least, he's trying. Without sufficient proof, claims are simply claims, after all," the butler thought to himself as he quietly followed the princess who was already poking her head into the carriage to get a better look at the goods within. "But if he can back these claims up, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to invest..."

The relative peace of the scene was suddenly interrupted by the sound of what seemed to be a dying creature before smoke began billowing out from something in the middle of the road. The worst of it was yet to come, though, as the one who emerged from the smoke was the thief from earlier. Though the baubles in her hand were replaced with a single object, the fact that she was screaming about a military automata chasing her (likely the one that had given chase earlier) and running right towards him... Was an issue.

Far less of one than the fact that it meant that the princess was also in the crossfire, of course; if there was any time to act, now would be it. Calmly sweeping his right arm out to his side, the butler calmly walked straight into the path of the dashing half-alv girl and, in a single motion, drew three knives out of his uniform and launched them all at the girl; in the next, he drew another and placed it in the middle of the air, freezing it in place before jumping on top of it. Right before the knives might have met their target, the butler forced them to pause in space, denoting a sort of boundary and he launched another four from the air towards the girl. In a similar fashion, these blades froze too, blocking off any ability for her to attempt to simply leap over them.

"While I overlooked your petty thievery earlier, I cannot allow you to place my mistress in any harm," he declared, a solemn look on his place as he turned towards the direction of the smoke cloud. If the girl's words had any truth to them, then...

"Assuming that your cries about being chased by a robot are correct and it is hostile, I will not stand idly by; however, if you still wish to bring harm upon the princess, I will not hesitate to cut you down where you stand," he continued, letting the knife he had frozen as a platform fall to the ground. With a cursory glance at the object in the girl's hands, Byron sighed and shook his head. While locking that in place and preventing it from moving was an option, there were only so many more objects he could freeze in place; if there really was a more hostile enemy en route to their position, then, all of the knives he had thrown would have to be recalibrated to deal with that instead. If the girl was bluffing, of course, they would function as a small pseudo-barrier impeding her progress and force her to shift her route of escape.

It was a given, of course, that if she continued to try and run to the princess and the merchant, he would let the knives resume flight. There was no exception to be made when it came to protecting someone important, especially in a situation like this.

"Oh?"

Of the two items that the merchant had offered to her, the notebook caught her attention immediately. So she could hide her drawings until she knew they were ready to show off? No-one could come barging in and looking at her unfinished work again? For a moment, the young girl was caught up in the merchant's rhythm. At least, for a moment. Remembering herself, the girl folded her arms with a huff. Even if Vivienne didn't want to make it obvious, she knew that some street merchant types wanted to swindle people out of their money rather then sell anything worthwhile! If he was that type, catching him in the act wouldn't just be for her benefit, but the benefit of everyone in this town!

"That notebook sounds great!" Vivienne declared, "But I want to see a demonstration before I buy it! I-ah?"

Mister Silverwood had acted so quickly, and it didn't take long for the princess to figure out why. The thief had returned, apparently being pursued by some sort of automata. The blonde girl's frown returned, and her attention was quickly pulled away from the merchant entirely as she turned towards the intrusion.

"As a Princess of Felbar, Vivienne Felvarre Croix," she began, "I cannot condone thievery! Hmph! No matter what happens, don't let her escape, Mister Silverwood!"
