I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

*ahem*

Well, after you get your character sheet and questionnaire approved, one of the elevators will drop you into Axis Mundi. You can choose to be a contestant from one of the other ongoing killing games that got shuffled over to this one, or an entirely new patient. I strongly recommend reading the story summery in the truth bullet section if you don't have the time/desire to slosh through everything that has been written thus far.

Welcome back.

Are the tabletop, arena, and nation tags redundant since we have entire sections for that sort of thing?
Reading everyone's posts is something you should do period. You aren't going to understand the story down the road if you only pay attention to what's happening around your character. Like, duh.

...But if you're going to complain that you did something in a room with ten other characters and most of them didn't respond to it, I think you're being unreasonable. I dislike (but will read) a post that does nothing but parrot what everyone else already did. Yes, you can write what a few characters were doing prior to interacting with them, or before you have some sort of reaction to them. But there's really no point in mentioning the actions of every character as they happen around you. If my character throws a pencil at another character, and there are 8 other characters in the room, I'll be okay if the players controlling those 8 other characters do not see a need to personally narrate my pencil throw. I also think in a room filled with 10 people, there's a chance some of them wouldn't notice what was going on because of other activities. Not everyone has perfect situational awareness.

A character tells a 2nd character whose eating "I see you're eating chicken, I like that too." If you wrote that you ate lettuce in your last post. You don't need to bitch incessantly in OOC that you're character is a vegetarian and they should know that (they don't, the character just met you.) and blah blah. Just write "Need to check you're eyeballs, this is lettuce" 2nd character said. Crisis averted.

I would love to agree with this, but...

Some people actually feel that if your character hates their character, you are actually hating them. So by telling them that they need to check their eyeballs, that could be seen as passively telling the other player that they aren't being observant. This stirs up the OOC drama that you were trying to avoid. That's not to say this method doesn't work, but you need to be careful with the wording, and who you use it on.

Hope everyone's making good use of the hiatus!

I'm involved in a few collabs now, so we can expect some activity on the 20th. I know not everyone will be able to resume posting the second the hiatus is over, but there should be something for everyone to read regardless.

Good luck on your projects.
I guess it's fair to say that the decision to post longer or shorter is up to each individual, and which choice is better needs to be evaluated on a post by post basis. I've read some really long, fluffy posts where I had to fight the urge to skim to the real point of it. I've read some short posts that would have been a lot better with more build up, descriptions, inner monologue, etc. There are also just times when a longer post disrupts flow, and a shorter post doesn't offer anything beyond an inner monologue parroting what all the other characters were thinking.

Also, a lot of roleplayers just don't know how to write interesting descriptions. Two people can write an "info dump" on the history of a kingdom. One could pull you into the story and the other would put you to sleep.

[@Rilla Haha, hope I'm not the one making it "unfortunately" your job.

Anyway, I guess approving character powers for an elemental tournament is always going to need to be taken care of on a case by case basis. I'm intrigued to hear that your character wouldn't use magma or explosions. I was under the impression that in order to be as viable as possible, you had to squeeze as much versatility out of an element as possible. I'm glad this is not the case.

Good luck with the tournament. I'll be watching from the grand stands.
I think that cliches can be done well if you're willing to have fun with them and not go down the same safe road everyone takes.

"My family was tragically killed, and their souls were infused in a katana... but that seemed kind of morbid, so I attacked bristles to the scabbard and use it as a broom now. Also I try to spread happiness, because being a total edgelord all the time makes no sense. My family is always with me. <3"

"An angel told me a prophecy. One that clearly stated I would save the world... But since it's prophecy, why bother working towards a goal that's essentially going to wind up in my lap anyway? I think I'll be lazy and procrastinate instead. Not like that angel was lying to me or anything!"
@Rilla I'm just saying that from my understanding on the first page, all magic was suppose to suppose to come from the element and "side element." This was largely because all of Worren's magic was, well, fire based. It wasn't until I took a closer look at the ability section and realized it wasn't for non-magical skills, but magic that wasn't fire based. Hence why "enchanter" is Aer's only real magical skill in that area. it wasn't untill maybe the second or third time looking over Worren's sheet that I noticed he didn't have any non-magical skills like that, save maybe hand gestures.

in regards to her ability to cool things, there is no definitive point, except that maybe she can't freeze things solid. But I figured you'd have a problem with a fire/ice character, which is why I used a little more creativity and gave Aer "Magma slide" instead of "glacier slide." But I would like to note that as someone who loves the science behind magic, this is what I find so infuriating about elemental magic. It is versatile, but it's hard (emphasis: not impossible) to make a bunch of unique people with it unless you push the boundaries a little bit. In nature the elements get mixed all the time. Is a volcano earth or fire elemental? A tornado is basically hot and cold air mixing, so isn't it technically fire and wind elemental? Would you consider a steam based attack water or fire elemental? I'm genuinely curious.

As far as "batmanning" goes, I think I stated pretty clearly what her limitations were on enchanting. I guess we could make it so that she could enchant small areas and objects, just to clear up the fact that she can't enchant and entire building and make it go kablooie. The only thing she can really do with an enchanted object is heat it up, cool it down, or make it or the air around it explode. She can only cast fire spells from her catalysts, which are her spear, gloves, and shoes. Thus, you don't have to worry about a broken bottle suddenly launching a fireball or a hundred grains of sand firing a cone of flame from every direction. Did that make sense?

Whoever wants to go full on brawl-style and just punch/kick/wrestle people in their faces, i'll be happy to be their mentor.

Lets make it a statement to all the other fighters: someone's getting punched in the face, no matter what. preferrably Guru.

And vice-versa: a strong defense allows you to sh*t on your opponent's attacks and jump in balls first to open up a can of whoopass in their face. That's one of my own observations.

I've made a small alteration to my character that, should I join, will make me easily overcome anything Vordak's disciple can throw at me.
