If I ever imply France in an RP where, for example, the context for calling something "French Toast" doesn't exist, you can know that's not me.

Bio

I'm a generally chill gomboblin that can be kinda particular. I grew up with plenty of electronics and video games, mostly with games like Final Fantasy, Zelda, and StarCraft. Lots of Nintendo. Dark Cloud is pretty sick. That's a lot of variety, and I do like to play a lot of different games. I like to blend magic and technology in my writing, bringing fantasy into space and sci-fi.

Magic in space is something that I find isn't done very much. Airships and spaceships could make for some cool centerpieces. Skies of Arcadia did a fantastic job of this. Perhaps that's not in space, exactly, but it's pretty close. Some of those ships may as well be space ships.

More bodies had spilled in from the kitchen. Kalliope had been pinned and now seemed hurt. Garran had reloaded. Charlotte was safe. The front doors opened and more entered. Right. Garran was her greatest concern. She considered her hands, their state, the pain she felt in both. Her left ached more, but she couldn’t tell if that was from taking a knife or from spell use. Probably both. She had to do something, or-

Her heart froze when Garran pulled the trigger, but it.. didn’t work. The hammer gave nothing meaningful and nothing happened. And then he died. Stratya followed the bullet’s trajectory and the sound of the shot to find Drake had freed himself and promptly saved his sister.

The relief she felt was short-lived. The words had passed her by, but she felt the change in the air. She heard the terrible squelch of flesh against broken flesh. The recognition formed a pit in her stomach before she even turned to find Lady Olivia, with the shadows of dark magic clung to her, destroying the remains of Marius. And then it was over, and the young lady was left to the aftershock of such darkness.

Had Stratya gotten her hands on Maelen, she would have given her the grace of listing in brief her wrongs, so she could understand her death, and in the afterlife repent that she might do better next time.

The use of magic to assault, rob, and torture. Above that, the use of magic to murder.

She looked now upon a citizen who had just used magic to kill.

Before she could do anything about the rather dark section of grey area in front of her, a call of distress. Kalliope’s voice. It didn’t matter who’s name she called, her desperation was enough.

There she was, Kalliope. Being taken through the kitchen door. “No!”

The Fury flashed into her eyes, she dropped into a sprint and vaulted the counter, too. She charged through the double action doors to the kitchen just in time to catch the motion of the rear kitchen door end. As she neared the outside, she remembered herself and shut the Fury away. In doing so, the exhaustion caught her all at once. There was no way she could give chase without exposing herself.

The Knight growled and slammed her right fist on a nearby barrel, her left now carefully tucked against her body. The bleeding had stopped already. Even so, her right ached too much, and the painful extremity was held out in front of her as though she were attempting to squeeze the pain from it like water. No time. As Lady Charlotte came out from the Tavern after her, she whistled a loud, peculiar, piercing pattern into the night air.

It was then she noticed the young lady. Aaah, shit.

She smiled softly, at least happy to see her safe, “ye’rr alrrigh’, Lady Charrlo’e?” Wait, no, “oh, yerr head. Le’ me see..” Her left arm remained tucked close as she stepped closer to Charlotte, her right coming in to gently cup her head to hold her still while she looked at the injury. “... coulda been worrse, easy. We’ll still ‘ave tae ge’ ye some attention, tho’.”
I'm intrigued. I shall ruminate and see what arises. Are there any pieces of media that you might suggest throwing into the stew, as it were?

Oh, wow. The Rotom Phone was fancy. She watched as the devicèmon held itself aloft and displayed the information she sought in a way she’d seen on Sci-Fi shows. She marveled softly to herself, briefly, before carrying on.

The restaurant was impressively bland. How’d they manage it? A loud sound from behind the restaurant snapped her out of the eldritch trance she’d been sucked into, after which point she found it easy to keep her eyes away. It was such a bland thing, anyway. Such a great noise was rather concerning, and the aspiring ranger found herself circling behind the restaurant.

She drew her shirt up over her nose as the odor assailed her. It was trash, no mistaking it. The nauseating, moldy pungentness of restaurant trash. She took a moment as she stood before the dumpster, considering how to approach the situation. The smell was awful, Kaebe would hate it. Probably.

Ah.

“Magnemite.” Regan let the metal ball without a nose out from its pokeball. If she could get away without alerting whatever was in the trashbin, she would. Surprise attack it, maybe. She pointed up, indicated her eyes, and then pointed to the dumpster. Magnemite, though disappointed that this was not a power plant, nodded to her orders and elevated, to try and peek in on their target.

@Remram

Nothing in the brochures. Yeah, maybe that wasn’t a typical thing tourists would be interested in. Maybe if it were some kind of unique power plant? Even then, you’d probably come here because you’d already heard about it and knew how to find it. Well, maybe she’d find something if she wandered around enough. She’d seen it on TV once, what was it called? A power something. They’d gotten a lawyer involved during the course of the episode, and they’d made it understandable enough to get the jokes, but it still went over her head a bit. He’d been a funny old man who liked to scoot around in his office chair.

Anyway. She managed to ask someone who actually knew about a recent occurrence of garbage raids. Le.. Meh? Le Meh?! She had a morbid curiosity to try the food, but had a looming suspicion her wallet wouldn’t stand for it. “Sounds..” she paused, and sat on her silence for a beat longer than necessary, “meh. Er, where is it?”

The man gave her some brief directions and, as she ran off, shouted after her for her to use her phone.

Ooh. That’s right. It did resemble one of those things, didn’t it? She’d just thought of it as a fancy pokedex, but now that he mentioned it. She dug her phone from her pocket, checked the path in front of her, and slowed to a walk for a moment while she figured out how to use the thing. At least, well enough to get to the map function and use it. Her peripheral vision was pretty good, she could dodge pedestrians.

“Le.. Meh.” She looked between the map and the line that got drawn on it, and the way she’d already been going, quickly, twice or thrice, before finally, “yeah.” She nodded and then continued her run after stowing the thing again.

She checked the RotomPhone as she approached the site, and slowing first to a jog and then to a calm walk. If it was recent enough, and the report she’d gotten from that guy was true, the critter might still be here. Even if not, it could have returned since then. She knew to take the time to walk and calm her breathing as she approached, if she wanted any chance of catching it.

“‘Any piece of my body you choose,’ you lot hear that?”

Yes, she did.

Kalliope had put herself into a dangerous position. She’d offered something precious, indeed, to a madman with a gun and a disgusting thing for his razorblade. Though she was certainly concerned about Kalliope, something else had drawn Stratya’s attention.

Marius was enjoying this.

His delight turned her stomach. Suddenly, she saw something less than a man. Something irredeemable. Incompatible with peace and good living. Stratya felt it within her chest, beneath the dread. Violent and fast and hot. Familiar. Carefully, Captain Durmand contained it, covering it with her dread, biding her time.

”If I may.”

Stratya’s eyes shot to the young lord. What was he doing? As Drake went on, Stratya felt the cold fear, the dread in her freezing, spreading, expanding. He practically mocked them, and Kazumin didn’t help much. Stratya had dealt with enough outlaws to predict how this would go. Anything not within this room did not scare them. They could disappear at will - nothing held them to this place, even to the kingdom, unlike Lord Drake or Lady Charlotte, and their coming Duchies. The brigands had the freedom to plunder and leave and never return, evading the connections Drake had tried to lord over them.

The Captain did not flinch when she felt the contact against her knee. She figured it to be an attempt at comfort or communication, though when she realized it was Roman, she decided the latter. She did not expect to feel a wave of warmth course through her body, followed by clarity. The Captain looked at Roman only long enough to read his lips, offering the slightest of nods in response. Perhaps she’d ask him about his magic later.

Roman’s distraction was only momentary, the whistle and Ox’s movement brought her back to the horrible reality. Worse than watching the good man be bound to the support beam was watching the iron be heated. As the mark was made on good Lord Drake, Stratya realized something. Drake was not wrong. There was a connection these cutthroats should fear.

She was there.

The dread changed. Melted, finally, into a pond of patience. Three drinks, they wanted? Three drinks, and then the patience would evaporate, and nothing would be left to contain her Fury. To the Fury, they would pay for every mark and every death.

Before you hear it for the first time, you might think a bar going across a door sounds simply like a sturdy tankard hitting a thick wooden table. In truth, that sound was followed by a sound like that of the tankard rolling across such a table. For the big ones worth their salt, anyway. If it was light enough to simply lower, it was light enough to simply break.

There wasn't much sound for the tankard landing in her lap, a soft pap, inaudible over the ruckus of the tavern. Before Stratya could try to assuage the shoeless lady’s concern, in the way of the happy drunk Ariella moved on. The dropped vessel found the tabletop once more, and Ariella’s bliss painted what precious peaceful moments remained.

The Captain turned to Roman, about to say something she’d never remember what it was, when the great slam of the door, followed by a great shuddering, interrupted her.

She turned to see, as would others. A boulder on legs, and Drake, and Charlotte. The two familiar of the three were quick to return as things unfolded. The third, Ox?, stood at the door with an intimidating bulk. You'd want to hit a guy like that in the face. There was too much muscle and fat in the rest of his body, he'd just absorb any strikes. You could stab him or cut him, sure, but there had been no blood. The grinding noise, Stratya saw, had been the bar for the door, and now Ox blocked it with a heavy keg.

It was good she didn't bring her family dirk. She thought something like this might happen, actually. Well, she thought it would have been quieter, more of a pickpocketing than a full-blown heist.

The dynamic between Ox and his commander's voice set up the dread Stratya felt grow as two more accomplices appeared from the loft overhead. Four? There was “Ox”, his commander who had told him to hold the door, two crossbowsbang and a fifth.

Stratya laid her hands upon the table, but not before she tried to get a look at the gun that had been fired. Did it hold more than one shot at the ready? Could she tell from here? And why did he have to be some lunatic with a razor hung from his neck?

A sixth, a dagger, captured the barmaid to hold her hostage. This was a big group. Coordinated. Troublesome. One after another, they emerged like roaches that had been living in the woodwork. A flash of light from the hearth announced the seventh, washing out the entirety of the room and filling the air with an ethereal weight, as though suddenly things were very humid, but it wasn’t water.

A witch.

That certainly complicated things. The windows blackened, the sound of the room insulated. Despite the adrenaline now coursing through her, Stratya kept herself still, calm. Underneath, her dread grew. The larger the group, the more prone to violence they become. More likely it was there was at least one loose cannon among them.

Shrieking confirmed this fear. She was reminded of her threat to Donald, to have him locked up within eyesight of the torture chamber. Her eyes closed as she listened, breathing and desperately maintaining her calm under a grimace. Maybe she'd just put him in a normal jail cell, instead. Gods, if Donald were camped outside and watching her through the window on this occasion, that would be absolutely keen, actually. He could call the guard. Would he know to call for a witchhunter? Probably not, huh.

A deep breath forced her chest to steady as the man’s mutilation ended and her eyes opened slowly, but only a new horror awaited her. A man tried to flee, only to be met with unseen force that broke and discarded him, flinging him across the room. He didn’t move again. He was either unconscious from pain and shock or very thoroughly dead. Stratya’s expression darkened further, and then she heard some damnable old windbags open their loose lips! Glaring at them would gain her nothing, however.

“If someone’s going to paint the floor for being stupid, it’s me, not you.”

The comment granted the old men Stratya's forgetfulness. This young noble lady had nerves, as though the glares she’d been sending Kalliope were not enough evidence of that. Not just brass, but tact in a pinch. Where did she get these qualities? Olivia also identified a mage without missing a beat, but the captain could worry about that later. In the moment, Lady Olivia showed herself an ally, and not a stupid one. “‘at’s someone else’s job, nae yerrs.” It was good to know she was not alone, but the knight had doubts about the lady's ability in combat. She expected Lady Olivia might lack experience and training, if not the aptitude.

An eighth accomplice approached them, specifically Ariella, picking her out for Drake's sister. She didn't like the way he looked at her. With any luck, the only thing running through his head was ransom. Charlotte and Drake were managing Lady Edwards, but who knew how her outbursts would play off the bandits apprehending them. She was quite the handful of a happy drunk.

It did seem to Captain Durmand that none of the bandits seemed to have noticed her, not even Garran. Not specifically. Just another pretty face, to them. Good. She would need every advantage.

They were to drink. A decent plan to reduce the resistance in the room with what everyone came here for anyway. Everyone would leave drunk, nothing would look too suspicious and no attention would get drawn until the perpetrators were long gone.

Kalliope’s daring proposal gave Stratya another wave of brave relief. This ally inspired more confidence, her ability was more known, less hidden. Lady Olivia had drawn curiosity from the knight, regarding her capabilities. For that matter, would Roman sit idly by? Was Drake confident in a fight? Had he and Ariella been sparring with the boffles she had gotten for them? Getting him a knife was a dangerous prospect at the moment, such would have to be done unseen or in the moment of action. Lady Charlotte, though a shaken contrast to Lady Olivia, had not been reduced to a fearful mess. A skill she would need as a Duchess.

Herself, she was pleased with her decision to meditate on the setting sun. Such meditations often made it difficult to get to sleep in a timely fashion, but with it being Drunkard's Day, she'd planned to stay up late drinking. The wakefulness and (she was finding out) sobriety it brought on was going to prove useful.

Three, four, maybe five combatants, to their seven plus a witch? Her eyes gazed into the strange light of the magicked flame as she thought about how to proceed, if she should even speak any further. Their captors’ ears were sharp. Quiet rooms did that. Her best bet at that moment was to gather information as subtly as she could, and the biggest mystery was the magic of the witch holding the room hostage. The witch had claimed insulation from the surrounding world, and that was plain to see. The windows were black, as though some empty void were beyond. She could no longer hear the ruckus of Drunkard’s Day from outside. The way the witch could squeeze their throats at will, and fold a man in the air before tossing him aside with a flick of her wrist.. how, exactly, was she doing so many things?

The knight took her half-drank vessel of mead and drank more, taking the opportunity to eyeball the position of the man in the rafters and the man on the stairs while feeling the heft of the pint in her hand. Heavy enough. It thunked back to the wood and her hand returned to position. They’d have to do something about the witch before anything else.
Blearg. Learned today that, for the next month, I have to pick up a sixth day at work because we don't have enough trainers.

Unghfja. Well, guess I better write something before that happens.
I forgot to post that the whole time

Ooh, good. The difficult part of the job was just cornering the thing. A relieved smile softened the trainer’s expression, “alright, then. Here, I’ll transport you in a Pokeball.” Regan retrieved an empty ball from her belt and held it out for the Magnemite to come and boop itself on.

Once that was done, it was time to collect her payment and go. Oh, but first, she made a mess in that maintenance closet. Mum always said to clean up after yourself. She couldn’t remember how the cabinet had been organized, but she could at least pick it back up and put everything back on the shelves.

To the receptionist, to secure her payment, she would show her proof of service, her captured Magnemite, “here’s the source of your power outages. Cute little guy, isn’t he? If he weren’t so much trouble, perhaps.” She’d have to find the power plant, but that shouldn’t be too hard, right? Maybe the receptionist knows where it is. Or, maybe one of the brochures she picked up from the Association could help her.

At any rate, her business at the apartment complex was complete. Without knowing where the powerplant was, exactly, she had to gather some information. Someone at a restaurant near the complex complained about a creature leaving a mess that morning at the dumpster. Apparently this was not an uncommon occurrence. It didn’t seem like anything too out of the ordinary, but perhaps it warranted checking out?

While asking about a power plant, Regan would investigate this dumpster-diver pokemon.

There was quite the crowd gathering around Lady Charlotte. It was like she had led some sort of charge to keep the darling company. Drake and Ariella had appeared, and more were gathering. Someone whistled for someone to come from the bar? Lady Charlotte was certainly popular.

Stratya was taking a sip of her mead when Lady Charlotte asked about the date. Her eyes and eyebrows betrayed her as she took a deeper swig. She let out a soft groan as she thought about her date with the old man, the pint returning to the table with a soft thud. “Oh, Donal’? Eer..” She grimaced and leaned back, shaking her head as though to rid herself of a bad taste, “gah, tha’s a crreepy ol’ man, arrigh’. Y’know wha’ ‘e tol’ me?”

At that moment, another songstress who had been having herself a grand old time with the rest of the patrons joined their table, plopping herself with drunken recklessness into their booth. Stratya, ever dutiful, ready as she was to let someone in, had positioned herself at the edge, and now found the absolutely stunning songstress in her lap.

“Oh! Is i’ m’ birthday? Or maybe t’ gods send an apology.” Her hand came easily to rest across Kalliope’s lap as the Captain took another sip. “Mm,” she stopped herself mid-sip and set her pint of mead down again, shaking her head and grinning at the Lady across from her with a sheepish denial, “tha’s nae wha’ ‘e tol’ me. Ahh..” Stratya glanced at Kalliope, and offered a brief summary, charri’y auction earrlie’ tahdae, da’es were up f’r bid, old man named Donal’– bleedin’’ Donal’, of all things – wins my bid.
