The Royal Federation of Nibiru

-Over the Orbit of Mojave, Gas Giant Bunyan, No Man's Land, Americana System-

The Gateways were back. The long-closed passages that had been constructed and forged to ensure mankind's survival among the stars, reopened. It was something that had popped up on every sensor array in range of its shockwave within the space of the Royal Federation. And then some. The ancient tales of where mankind had come from were proven to have truth in them once more, though the impact of this event had yet to fully pan out as of yet. The military had popped in to investigate, and upon word getting back to the Royal Palace the King himself has ordered a securing of the Gateway and its immediate space alongside a prospective mission to investigate. Inactive military forces were mobilized to secure the space, and already work on preparing a simple space station and spaceborne defenses were being initiated. To have such a thing crack open near enough to the capital of the Royal Federation was more startling than anything, and oculd not be taken lightly. Regular tight patrols of the Gateway and its space were being likewise organized, and more cogs would be sent moving in the background as the news hit the civilian airwaves and media like a blitzkrieg as the slow march of daylight finally began to creep over the verdant surface and modern buildings on Nibiru itself.

Mankind now had a path back to its home. And yet, as the past had taught them very harshly, it did not mean only humanity might lie beyond. It did not mean everyone was friendly or filled with camaraderie. Dangers unknown lurked beyond that swirling point in space-time, and they would have to be treated with all the caution that humanity had once seemingly lacked in their ancient past.

The Sol System? A relic, a dead world that held no life sitting as the third planet from its sun. It could be observed later, but for now the investigation of other systems and security of their own side were paramount. Especially with the TFCU liable to be aware of what had happened as well, and the RFoN's own news set to spread like wildfire over all the channels and throughout its territory. They could not leave it to chance.

To this end the Destroyer RFF Dagon had been prepared in haste as a diplomatic and self-defense-capable vessel with a seasoned veteran crew and captain. A diplomat had been likewise hastily prepared, with at least two scholars of 'ancient Old Earth languages' sent along in turn. From here, a destination was chosen as the Gateway seemingly magically interfaced with the ship itself. A true miracle of the ancients, and yet it offered only so many spots to go to at first as well. Had not all the Gateways opened? Perhaps not. But what was open proved to be a spread of potential allies...and especially enemies....alike. Ultimately, the decision to visit the Americana System had been made to give the ship a place to start.

"Captain! Reports show that the ship remains in functional and operative condition. No damage or functionality loss seems to have occurred from using the Gateway."

Captain Thomas Alexander Cograin let out a small but quiet sigh of relief as the comms transmission rang clear into his mind through the medium of his hard neural communication implant. Communications without a word spoken, functioning on a wavelength far beyond what humanity's ancestors could have dreamed. Controlling a ship in total silence, aside from the bustle of crew and occasional speaking as well as the movement of equipment. What would their ancestors have thought of them? What would they have thought of all of this? Would they have cared for the great war of the past, and the struggles of current times? He had no idea, waving a hand in front of his face as he tried to push such curiosities aside.

His white beard and moustache were signs of how long he'd been at this line of work, though medical treatments and other work had helped him keep well enough in mental and physical shape to keep up his career. He'd been a veteran of the later phase of the Great War of his people, a conflict against alien invaders that had gone on for longer than he could ever hope to remember. He'd been given medals, and offered the chance to retire a number of times beyond this. But what was he to do? His grandchildren were grown, his own children aging in their own right, and he hadn't had much of anything to do at home. With that in mind, he'd simply noted in his own manner that: 'I'll find something to do once I actually have to retire. This gives me something to do at least, something I know well enough.'

"Good. Continue with an in-depth examination of facilities and other devices on the ship as a precautionary measure. Likewise, slow the ship to a stop before we move any further. Set sensors to maximum range to look for human life, and ensure the weapon crews are ready to go just in case-"

THUNK

SLAM

CRUNCH

The ship shuddered in a way all too familiar to the Captain.

"Alert! Alert! Shots have made contact with the mid-rear of the hull. Armor has absorbed the blasts. Seems to have been stray shots from surrounding engagements!"

"I want repair crews to the damaged area, stat! Do we have any mean of identifying the combatants in some capacity?"

"Sensors detect human life aboard a number of unknown vessels, as well as non-human life. However, we...oh by the crown..."

"What is it, man?! Speak up!"

"Yulz-type ships identified, Yulz-type humanoid combat vehicles identified. Both in combat with unknown vessels containing unknown alien and human life aboard."

An air of tension seemed to crawl up the back of the crew as the identification of some of the vessels and vehicles was made. The Yulzan, or "Yulz" as they'd been locally dubbed back in the Utu System. An enemy they'd fought away after over a century of war, now present and fighting someone else who lived here in the Americana system. Another alien empire who wanted ground? Humans who'd found new allies? They had no idea of knowing. Yet the tension was so palpable that it could be cut with a knife already.

Thomas wasted no time in reaching out to make a whole-ship comms message to the whole crew of the ship.

"All combat crews to battle stations! Red Alert! This is not a drill! I want all batteries and weapons armed and aimed at any Yulz vessels and vehicles within range. Look for key vessel targets of a higher value.

Comms Division, I want older-style comms frequencies using radio or other such methods scanned for intel. Record as much as you can for decryption and translation later. See if there's any means to get word back to Utu!

And get the diplomat and translators to the safe room in case any more shots come our way!"

"The small guns on mid-rear section G7 has been damaged by the strike!"

"Confirmed! Repair crew is on the way. G7 small guns crew, scout the location of the damage for potential breaches as we close the shield armor over the damaged section. Once finished, report back and go to G-Section Central for reassignment."

"J7, H7, and I7 battle stations locked onto nearest enemy craft! Requesting permission to engage!"

"Comms Division reporting in, Captain! We have made contact back in Utu, Captain! They wish for a status report!"

"Send them the general status report and most current action report. Tell them to send over reinforcements to secure this Gateway location, stat! We can't let the enemy gain access to Nibiru space so far behind our lines! Tell them this is a Code Red Contact Situation! Stat!

Permission to freely engage is also given! Fire immediately upon getting a proper lock on Yulz vessels! Anyone else fires on us, then return defensive fire in such a case!"

"Yes, Captain!"

The Battleship, cylindrical and cigar-like in shape as it was, whirred to life as its myriad battle arrays and stations trained their weapons on the nearest Yulzan ships and vehicles within its range. The kinetic and other such weapons then began to fire as soon as they got a lock, the new arrival into the Americana System letting loose a hail of fire from its position that was curiously not aimed at any of the FRA vessels. Not that it was paying attention to them primarily. The Yulz, however? Old habits died hard, and the 'Great Enemy' died harder the more they got blown to bits.

In time, more ships would arrive to provide support and fire in short term. Over a few days following, a simple space station and other space defenses initially made to secure the Royal Federation side of the Gateway would be taken over in parts to be assembled on the Americana side. For better or worse, the Royal Federation would entrench itself around the Americana Gateway and their own end with a new sense of dread and expedited timeframe. Such efforts would be continually and increasing as the days and weeks ahead would go on, all whilst they would go about firing on any Yulz vessel or vehicles to get within range. Other vessels of the FRA, however? They would not be fired upon, not unless they fired on the Royal Federation ships and such first anyway.

The Cambrian Constellar Republic

-Azulvista System-

How could one secure a space Gateway? The answer was with government space vessels, mostly keeping patrols around it and reporting back to stations. By slapping on slapstick missile batteries onto a couple space stations, ones barely capable of being used in space as a barest means of defense. And by keeping the M.O.A.I. System in a ready state. Despite all of this occurring due to governmental panic, the idea of making contact again with their fellow humans was nothing short of a joyous thing for the citizens of Cambria's floating cities and other habitations. It had reopened in a great flash, an ancient path once again restored as the idea of seeing what became of humanity elsewhere became quickly discussed among many. Were there new foods? New languages? New places to see and vistas to explore? Enemies or new unknown threats to run into? New allies or trade partners to encounter? Such things and many more also came into the conversation as the initial days and such had gone on, and likely would remain a topic of fascination for a good time beyond that.

The Federal Government, however, would work on something to send through. A diplomatic vessel, unarmed as much as it had been refitted with a thicker hull and such 'in case of emergencies'. No way to get weapons on it with any existing Cambrian technology though. A paltry thing in the grand scheme, and yet alongside a diplomat was a small army of old language scholars/translators and even samples of local goods and life and food and so forth stored on the ship. People from each human subspecies were likewise aboard, ready to represent their nation as one wherever they ended up at.

Whilst the adventure to Sol was most tempting to make, a mere probe to investigate conditions would be sent in...and hopefully able to transmit back data through the Gateway at that. Hopefully. Lest it would require sending a manned craft after it later. Such was the initial efforts of the Cambrian nation to multi-task when it came to the investigations and adventure ahead.

Meanwhile the diplomatic vessel that was prepared was sent to one of the first systems on the map as it mysteriously interfaced with the Gateway. Such a path would take it through, though not without some trepidation, to arrive in the system that housed the great world of Azulvista. However...

"Umm, are those armed spacecraft? Literal armed spacecraft?!"

"It's a whole blockade!"

"At least we came in unarmed. Unless that doesn't help the situation-, oww! Why'd you hit me like that?"

Captain Milana Kouris let out a small sigh, before returning to a formal state as she lowered her hand back to her side. It wasn't alien to be fascinated and fearful of these things, but to sit and dawdle about too long was not perhaps the wisest thing to do. Not when guns were aimed at them. A lot of guns actually. Definitely out of her wheelhouse, but she'd been a naval commander before the Gateway had reopened on their end. Now was a better time than ever to apply that experience in what limited capacity she could here.

"Quit the gloom and doom talk, people! Tell comms to maximize range for broadband transmissions. Likewise we need to get the translators on the comms, stat, with copies of the message were sent with! If we sit too long we might make ourselves look worse than we intend if I were you."

Unless these guys were assholes. She hoped they weren't assholes. Yet as the crew snapped to attention and moved to fulfill the orders, the Captain could not help but mutter something under her breath.

"And let's hope they understand a few of the ancient languages still..."

Wolf Kebabs, Anyone?

As soon as the second wolf dashed out of the underbrush, seeking to charge her down with a perhaps hunger-driven urge to support its pack in the attack, the moment it emerged into Nylah's peripherals and bolted right at her she made her own move. With a flick of her thoughts toward the wolf, two of the spears of light shot out toward at the charging wild canine in turn. The other three simultaneously shifted to obstruct the mad charge defensively like an impaling three-light-spear wall in case it got past the two sent at it somehow. If all went to plan, the mad charge would get the wolf immediately impaled on the two light spears. If it went south, the other three were being used for defense.

The novice herbalist kept her peripherals open regardless, even as her main line of sight shifted rapidly to the oncoming wolf that was madly charging her. Breathe. Focus. Control. One could, if they looked closer, see an ever so light tremble in the clenched right fist kept at her side though. At the same time, her face wore a look of notable focus and somewhat angry determination as it had the moment she decided to protect her patient.

It was not perhaps a boon to Lissa's own situation, but the Mothraki silently prayed that the other girl would be able to fend off the other two wolves. Or, at the very least, that there weren't two more waiting to pop out beyond these. Regardless, the patient was safe despite her own and Lissa's immediate lack of safety thereof. A small comfort for the situation at the very least.

However, there was one last thing...

...If the tiny moon goddess did not stop sticking her tongue at them, then she'd have to deny it imaginary headpats! That was, however, perhaps the most lighthearted potential aspect of the whole situation at best. Unless it was all a divine hallucination with the screen and all. Not a thing one could completely deny the potential of, given the moon goddess was involved in it. However, further thoughts about it would have to come later after getting Haruno to safety and then some.

Zasshu!!! You'll Not Get my Patient!

Wolves. Why did it have to be wolves?

As soon as they'd patched her up the Mothraki had stepped back from the patient to stand near her, and had already begun to prepare a Light spell when the growling and approach of a (definitely not alone) hungry wolf arrived. It was something she'd hoped would not happen, but all the same the smell of blood was a strong one for such predators. Food. As much as she wished they would not have to deal with it, she was confident in one thing that could help with this. Magic. That was a skill she'd learned more than enough for a small thing like this.

She was not letting Haruno's life be taken as wolf food. Neither her or Lissa's own lives.

Quickly, Nylah pushed to finish her spell as a shimmering rectangular panel of light came up from underneath the injured Haruno, lifting her up as a bubble of light likewise forming over the top of the panel and attached to the sides of it. All were solid light, a simple construct she could move using magic which would keep the wolves away from the injured oni. That and it had breathing holes around the bottom. Not big enough for a wolf's muzzle, but breathing holes nonetheless. She'd tried this sort of thing with Mass Calra a number of times before, mostly after she'd given her interest in wanting to become an Herbalist as well. A protective dome-stretcher, simple as it was at least protective from physical threats like a wolf if nothing else.

The Mothraki then turned toward the wolf, flicking out her left arm almost imperiously as she stared back at in the animal's direction and kept her peripherals open and looking. About five simple light spears shimmered into existence around the Mothraki, sitting in the air and pointed in the vulnerable directions around her as solid light projectiles and a small and simple defense. they could be unleashed at the whim of her mind at least, but she didn't have the time to do anything more.

@Irredeemable Second nation....finally done....can't keep eyes open....must sleep. Brain hurts. XD

Hope it is acceptable. If not am happy to fix things and talk about them to get it approval-ready!

NOTE: ANY MENTION OF AN FSA OR SUCH IS CURRENTLY WIP AND INCOMPLETE. LITERALLY JUST PLACEHOLDER TERMS AND NAME. IS NO DAMO'S STUFF IN ANY FASHION. THIS PARTICULAR MATTER WILL BE ADDRESSED AND SOLVED AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE.

THIS IS JUST THE MAIN NATION APP AND ME TRYING TO GET IT APPROVED PROPERLY.

THANK YOU.

Edit 5/14: Got a supplement for the belligerent separatists the Royal Federation is fighting, as well as a proper name for them to avoid potential overlaps with other works. I hope. Corrected references in the main app below as well in the process (do say if I missed anything please @_@).

The Mothraki darted forward as the Oni guard's feet failed her, her body moving without a second thought as she want about reaching out to grab Haruno and keep her from landing hard on the ground. She was familiar with the Oni's name, though considering she was Mie's personal guard and was so wounded it was a panicking sight to see. At the same time, however, it seemed to phase Nylah less than the deer cry had earlier. She seemed to go into near tunnel vision as she cradled the oni in her arms, slowly lowering her down to the ground and onto the Mothraki's own lap as the blood began to get all over Nylah's own attire and bag strap.

The girl's eyes raced over the Oni's wounds, trying to take a basic note of what was going on before she spoke to the latter.

"Haruno...yes, it's me. Nylah. Stay still, or I'll use magic to make you. You won't even make it another step without something being done right here and now," she said, her tone of voice oddly stern and unwilling to take argument despite the soft manner in which she had said it.

Her head then turned to Lissa, using a single freed hand to wave her over. Whether Lissa was already close to them by this point or not was off no consequence to the Mothraki. In fact, whevenver or if Lissa got close enough she'd speak out to the secret Raam without hesitation. A striking comparison to her earlier trepidation when it came to the potential predator, perhaps, though it was not the time to ponder such things in a deeper fashion (at least in Nylah's own mind).

"I know this is sudden, but I need you to be a second set of hands for me as I try to make something to stabilize Haruono. If we don't treat her immediately, she will not make the trip back to the village in any fashion."

Reaching into her bag, Nylah grabbed some amount of Kyr Reed and Wind Leaf, seeming to carefully consider the amounts, before digging for her mixing tools. She would lay them out as quickly but safely as she could, her eyes racing from the supplies and tools back to the injured oni girl and vice versa. She then looked back to Lissa once more. A light shake seemed to run through her hands as she knelt on the cold snow and other debris of the forest floor, perhaps even a tremble running down her spine for a moment, though whether it was all from the cold or some kind of nerves or both was not entirely clear.

"I am going to prepare some Kyr Reed to staunch the bleeding, and I need you to help apply pressure to some of the worst of these wounds until I get it ready. It will help slow her bleeding a little until I get this ready.

Then once I am done we will both need to apply the Kyr Reed to her wounds as quickly as we can before she bleeds out. Also try to keep as much of her off of the cold ground as you can."

Nylah didn't wait for a response, even though it was a lot to ask on the fly, immediately going for her Kyr Reed and tools to work it for basic use. Something simple to help stop the bleeding. The basics. Yes. One of the first thing's she'd learned so far underneath Miss Calra tutelage in this area of things. The Mothraki also seemed to more naturally go into a sort of controlled breathing state, in and out and in and out, as she would go about preparing the Kyr Reed.

She just hoped that they could stabilize her, at least enough to make some solid pane of light using her magic to float the oni over to the village. She'd carry her on her back if she had to beyond that. Yet the Wind Leaf she'd taken out was in case...er...well they'd come to that if she needed to make something else to help keep Haruno alive for the trip. For now, though, stabilizing the bleeding and trying to keep her somewhat more warm with physical contact was the imperative. Especially the former.

...It was embarrassing how the newcomer was doing better than her, but the idea of angering another Elder Beast had made her freeze up a little. Just the thought of those howling winds and such outside before they'd been able to get out and see the aftermath, and the thoughts of what had been seen afterward had stuck her in place without much thinking. Even so, the Mothraki silently bit her lip and came over to assist when beckoned by Lissa.

That was right, they weren't doing anything to the Kyr Deer, just getting the reeds hopefully before they could eat them all. It made the work that much more of a relief as she gathered as much as she could stuff into her bag before she noticed the footprint underneath her feet. It made her take pause whilst standing in the middle of the thing. She was no expert in these woods, but it was not a good sign for what could be lurking around at least. Predators lurking around where prey, such as these deer, lurked. Yet as thoughts of talking to Akando about it rose up, the Kyr Deer seemed to go alert before bolting away from the area.

Then came the panicked deer sound from farther in.

“Hmm… predator? What’re the types you folks have around these parts?”

“Say, Nylah… Does this elder beast –the Kyrinth, was it?—take offense or react when the other wildlife harms those deer? That is, should we intervene?”
Lissa

"Akando and the other Hunters would be the ones to ask about predators in these parts. However, with all the damage the other Elder Beast brought through, I would not be surprised if any we had here naturally would be desperate for food....or maybe something of the other Elder Beast's children lingered behind as well."

She said the last part with a notable amount more wariness and slight dread, a chill running up her back and causing her to shudder a little in response. Even so, it was a very brief reaction as she kept as cool and calm a face as possible as she moved to control her own breathing to help her focus better. Just as her mother had taught her. Nerves existed, she just had to keep control over them as best as possible. Yes.

"I would not know if the Kyrinth is against other creatures targeting the deer, but I do not think it would be loathe with us if we assisted one. A predator would also be a source of more food for the village, perhaps provide a pelt or such for the injured under Miss Calra to be warmed with as well.

In truth, I would like to return to Miss Calra with the herbs for safety's sake. If we were injured, it would only worsen the situation. At the same time, however, if this predator is a desperate one then it might put more people in danger if there's too little food around here."

"Glad To Not Be Binky, Or The Janitorial Staff, Right Now"

The waiting silence hadn't been bad, though it had been rather brief in the end. It was perhaps inevitable that some kind of questioning would occur after the fiasco at the mansion, though that was perhaps being more harsh than it deserved. Or wanting to be less harsh than it deserved. She felt embarrassed at having been so useless in the latter half of the mission, and pinned down by a monster during the first. At the same time, she and at least some of the others were not exactly veteran agents. New, fresh, trained but not proven. Something they would need to overcome to enough of an extent to survive in the future it seemed. Still, the fact the training room had some damage and visible upgrades felt like a sort of glimmer of hope for improving her own skills at the very least.

Still, as her coworker piped up first it was not hard to stand in silent agreement on Lilliah's part. Took the words out of her own mouth for the most part, at least in hitting the major points. Even so, she did need to throw in her carefully weighted two cents worth at the very least.

"I concur with Samuel on that major point. Cohesion is something we seem to lack, decisively but at least not entirely so I believe. Learning and at least training to make use of our strengths and capabilities in cohesive ways would seem paramount, at least in my own opinion, to improving operation performance in the field for the future for us. At least within reason. We cannot be perfectly prepared for the unexpected.

We did not adapt to being separated by the enemy in the first half of the mission, much less have a response plan of any basic sort after entry, and in the latter half were disjointed and not cohesive in our response due to individual actions in kicking off combat with the other side out of the blue. Then there was the ice-using Freelancer who was able to pull of a basic tactic to get behind the 'front lines' and launch and surprise assault on us, without any kind of idea for how to respond in the rear due to the situation already being disorganized."

After speaking, the simian-like esper took a brief breath before continuing on in the most professional manner she could muster.

"Yet outside of general group cohesiveness, some actions we have made individually speak to other things that any team-building work and training would need to address for better or worse. I'll use just a few potential examples from the past two missions to try to illustrate what I mean:

Valkyrie's willingness to blindly focus on a target of her aggression, which left her blind to an enemy attack from across the street in the police station mission, and leaping into action with Breach without so much as half the team on-board with what was going on was harmful to our efforts in the latter half of this last mission.

Jacqueline's recklessness in general, and sudden desire to risk the use of blood magic despite the agreement with the blood mage in this last mission.

There was...also my own generally reckless attempt to assist Breacher in our defense in pinch in the first half of the mission, which further divided us and left myself generally incapacitated until that battle suddenly ended. Not to mention my slowness to act at first.

Then there was Breacher herself, kicking off our engagement with Maverick forces with barely Valkyrie's support without a proper plan or even frankly an attempt to recover helped in leaving us scrambling and disjointed and unable to gather ourselves cohesively in turn.

We can't change who people are, but if we are to work better as a team we need to at least be able to recognize what impulses and risks we each bring to the table as well. If nothing else so we can have some measure of self-awareness in critical situations, whether we can improve things or not in some major way at such times."

The Mothraki held a silent arm out in front of Lissa, unsure of the traveler was in any way familiar with the situation before them. The Kyrinth. She knew its deer liked the Kyr Reed, but to get the ire of the Kyrinth was not something she wished for either. Would not bode well for the situation if they couldn't even go into the forest for herbs. It would also be bad if the deer ate everything as well. A bad situation overall to be sure. The girl quietly swallowed the ball of nervousness that had begun to build up in her throat, before looking to Lissa and speaking quietly but well within being able to be heard by the latter.

"These are the deer of another Elder Beast who lives in these woods locally, the Kyrinth. If we harm those deer, it could spell a lot of trouble for most definitely more than just ourselves.

But if we could do something like scare them away or such perhaps...or maybe.."

Nylah unconsciously grimaced in some distaste as she said the 'or maybe' part, but internally she knew what it meant at the very least. Enthralling Dust. Basically coercing the deer or trying to frighten them with hallucinations. Safe to say it was perhaps a very valid tactic, but one she'd been discouraged from using all of her life thus far. She'd been informed about it, and knew how to go about using it, but her mother had been very particular about emphasizing the dangers of just outright using it...or even thoughts of abusing it for that matter. After all, people did not take well to the idea they might be being manipulated by another person like that.

Truth be told, she did not want to go with that option unless she really had to. The idea left a sour taste in her mouth, and she was not sure how the Kyrinth would react to it either for all she knew.

"...never mind."

Perhaps Lissa had an idea or two as well?
