It was a desperate situation but still, Ash did not break. Though the slicing capabilities of her machete were still heavily hampered by the static motions in which she applied it, the prone huntress still caught the goblin’s wrist by the bone. He hissed in rage, spittle spraying on her face, but no matter how powerful his initial strike was, the tip of the knife only pierced her skin, a pinpoint of blood rising out from the puncture wound rather than a bloody stream. Reeling back, his own wrists red but not heavily injured, the goblin snarled and grabbed the blade with one hand, holding it back as he reached forth to aim another stab into her eye.
But Ash’s friends didn’t fail her this time.

“Always aim for the gut, Matt.” He slapped the retching boy on the back, the warmth of an older brother translated in that comfortable roughness. “And always commit.”

Screaming without even knowing he was, Matteo pushed through his pain once again, his uninjured legs propelling him with frenetic speed before he shoulder-tackled the much smaller creature, His bloodied arm banged painfully against the machete that Ash had held up to thwart the creature’s first stab, but it was just another momentary burst of pain on a pile of agony that didn’t seem to matter too much. With superior mass, he propelled the goblin away from Ash, the two of them sliding into the muddy stream. In delicious irony, it was Matteo who was on top this time, his arm stubbornly wrapped around the monster’s waist.

The goblin howled and raged, but he had dropped the knife somewhere during that surprise tackle as well, and swung at the thief’s face instead, a desperate, frenzied pummelling that caused Matteo’s brain to tremble each time a blow came near the bleeding bruise on his skull.

The club-wielder too soon found himself occupied. Muu’s hadn’t come off well from smacking away a flying knife, a deep cut seeping out that precious crimson ichor, but the adrenaline was pumping through her veins now. Even one handed, she was strong. Even one handed, she was fast. Even one handed, she wasn’t at a disadvantage, and the short sword cracked with a powerful strike, almost cleaving the goblin’s club in half as he raised up to block.

But the slash was stopped regardless, and that was what mattered.

Releasing the handful of Ash’s hair he had in his hand, the goblin dropped his damaged club immediately, leaving it stuck on Muu’s short sword, before lunging straight for Muu herself. One claw grasped her dangling red scarf, instantly tightening it around her neck, while the other limbs clawed at her body, trying to find purchase so he could grapple at a range close enough that her short sword would be all too unwieldy.

A third Kanamin show? Though Yu-Ri wasn’t personally all that attached to the franchise, it definitely seemed like the sort of news that would rock the internet for at least a month. She made note of it with a few quick keystrokes, head bobbing along as she fed off Megumi’s own secretiveness.

“Would it be joint announcement then –de arimasen ka?” Yu-Ri asked, her own voice hushed as she leaned in as well. “Is there someone here from the OPC that’s like, super high up there –de arimasen ka?”

Her own dark eyes flickered with a more intense curiousity now, as if celebrity incited some investigative spirit within her.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how one thought harsh realities should be given), Yu-Ri had long grown numb to fashion faux pas committed by the various eccentrics that lurked through Academy City. From 12 year olds with bodies that could put supermodels to shame to man-children who tattoo actually scannable QR codes on their foreheads to straight-up psychos who indulge in wearing what amounted to a colored sarashi on their day off, Megumi Motome’s hairstyle hardly phased the young child. It was simply a silly detail to take note of, really, and before she scribbled any meaningless notes onto her phone, Yu-Ri was already marking down ‘hot pink mohawk’ on the pad.

All in good natured fun though. The representative looked nice enough to at least warrant that much mercy.

“Thank you very much –de arimasu,” the schoolgirl in mourning clothes bowed, “To begin with, I understand that part of it is to bring in new interest towards space exploration, but, at least in terms of Kanamin franchise itself, there’s no direct tie to the OPC’s own specialities, correct me if I’m wrong –de arimasu. If that’s the case, what’s the reasoning behind playing such a big part in this convention, and why do you believe that people will be more interested in the OPC as a result –de arimasen ka?”

Yu-Ri paused, before offering a slightly apologetic smile.

“My seniors really just want to know why there was no collab with a series like Mobile Soldier Gunman or something of that sort, which ties more closely to extraterrestial themes –de arimasu.”

Hiroki’s hands wrapped against the lower jaw, trying to force it closed. Kuuki dove in as well, her full efforts given into pushing that incapacitating gas into the nostrils of the Beast. At a distance, Azukina ignored her own limits as well, a white-cold blast coating the lower half of the Beast’s body as it laid there on the ground.

But, for all that effort, who was it that held back the Beast’s wicked claws? Nostrils slatted closed as the invisible gas waved through his face, the man within the monster considered this situation briefly. In terms of execution, it was still sloppy, but in terms of guts, it was what he liked to see. So he held back the claws that rent and counted to ten in the back of his head, even as he faked a struggle that had Hiroki and Kuuki flailing about trying to maintain their grip.

Were they close? Yes. Could they have been closer? Yes. Was this victory gained through skill and merit alone? No. Still, that’s why they were here.

“Alright, that’s enough.” A clear baritone voice, like that of a trained thespian, reverberated through the roar of the blizzard and the scream of the jet engines. Reaching out with his hands, the Beast gently pulled Hiroki off of him, before his powerful tail pushed him up off his back into a sitting position. His tail worked to extract Kuuki as well, after which his nostrils flared open once more, taking in the sweat and the blood and the dirt and that almost undetectable ‘sleeping gas’. “Azukina, you’d best stop as well, ‘fore you hurt yourself too much.”

The Beast waited until the black-and-white girl stopped before moving to brush the frost off his legs as well, sparkling bits of ice and snow falling off his scales.

“Good efforts all around, you three. But remember that victory alone isn’t enough. Capture and rescue are the same in that one has to move both civilian and villain away from the scene of the crime, after all. From this point on, I’ll be ‘unconscious’. So good luck bringing me back.”

And with that, the Beast stopped talking, and with a rather impressive death-groan, fell back to the ground, turning into five hundred pounds of scaly deadweight.

Combat was exciting, and the adrenaline gave them all a hell of a high. But now came a different task.

How much strength did they have left in their tank?

Well, that went as well as she expected. She almost felt sorta bad. Doubtlessly he had been blindsided. Perhaps she’ll show him a bit of mercy then? She was allowed to do that, right? Yeah, she’ll do that. As Kaito trembled, gripping his flute but not moving an inch in any direction, the anachronistically dressed woman let out a breath and let go.

Instantly, air could be sucked back into his lungs once more, the oppressive aura of murderous intent gone so quickly that it could have been just a dream. Gone was the terror of death, the all-consuming monstrosity that dwelt within the flesh of that storm-eyed woman who even now only absent-mindedly twirled her parasol.

“Foolish justicar,” she crowed half-heartedly, “Has your mind finally caught up to your eyes? What stands before you is true evil, of the likes that you’ve never encountered before. Bow before me, worship me, and perhaps you may still escape this ordeal with your pitiful life.”

Her tone darkened, even if it still sounded like an amateur reading lines off a bad script.

“But know that any attempt at fighting back will be met with absolute eldritch calamitous disintegration.”

But ye, in layman's terms, Corporeal Chamber is supposed to be Earth? And Ethereal Demense is Heaven?
To confirm, are the humans from the same Reality Prism as the dolls? Or are they drawn from other worlds and such?

@Burger

Despite the uneventful nature of his walk, Nano was surprisingly busy. He had confined himself to the town for his entire duration thus far in Rengoku, almost never venturing outside the walls, and now that the ashen-haired youth was free to stretch his legs, he certainly did enjoy the journey. A bright greeting was given freely to those who he met on the road, and when he was alone on the plains, he filled the ambient silence with rudimentary whistling. Off-tune and not particularly indicative of any song at all, it nevertheless comforted him and warned off any human-adverse animals. Too much silence wasn’t good for one’s psyche, and it was with a comfy, confident jaunt that he strode towards the ruins.

The ruins were certainly a sight to behold up close, if only for its tenacity. Rubbing a finger against the moss-lined pillars, Nano scanned his surroundings carefully, committing each detail to memory while taking out his leather-bound book out to mark out a couple details that couldn’t be explained with words alone. It was certainly a wonderful place, wasn’t it? With a sigh, Nano hefted his backpack up a bit higher, before rolling his shoulders and stretching out his arms. The club rested against his right shoulder, while his dinky knife remained secured on his left hip. He picked up a few small rocks and stuffed it in his pockets, before taking in a deep breath and heading towards the hole in the wall.

Closing his eyes first, Nano pressed against the wall, trying to listen for the purported bone-rattling that apparently gave away the presence of the undead, before peeking into the hole for further examination. After that, he slipped off his backpack and stepped into the dilapidated castle, leaving the pack outside while he confirmed how safe the immediate entrance was.

If it was fine, great! If it was already crawling with skeletons, then he wouldn’t be all that encumbered if he decided to pick a fight with them. Easy peasy, eh?

Maybe he shoulda scrounged up some better armor though...
If you're gonna claim themes for Siwan, where the hell is his Super Seducer ability?
Oh, they were probably giving you suggestions on what they wanted, while expecting you to balance them or nerf them afterwards. You know, so people aren't walking in with Meteor Shower in their kit.
