”Mr. Dawson, why don't you have a seat?” He said, gesturing to the brown leather chair he had his hand resting on.

The men behind Adel stepped forward. They each placed a firm hand around his upper arms, half-guiding, half-dragging Adel to the seat. If Adel struggled in any way, their plan would have been quickly subduing him with a blow to the cheek - but besides tensing up, the man didn’t fight.

They shoved Adel into the seat, twisting it so it faced the mirror. Vincent still had that smirk on his face as he picked up a bowl of shaving cream and an applicator brush on the counter.

Slowly, methodically, Vincent applied shaving cream to Adel's face while speaking.

”Now, my men tell me that you and your spies have decided to make it your home in White Pine. Not that I care too much about that.”

He set down the bowl, picking out a barber's blade instead. He opened it, the fresh gleam of a clean, sharp blade within.

“What I really care about, though, is who set you up to do this.”

The blade pressed against Adel's neck as Vincent leaned over, staring at the man through the mirror.

”So, what'll it be, Canary? You gonna sing?”

Nocturnal Memoirs (2024)

"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Interested, and how does a leader of a knightly order with ties to the region work? Or maybe a surviving member of the former King's royal guard?

Great question. Knightly orders would have a strong connection with the Church, and follow the Three Tenants of the All-force:
1. Wipe out the denizens of the Dremora's Shade wherever you see them.
2. Allow prisoners a fair trial. Accept surrenders.
3. Be the benevolent light of the All-force in actions and words.

There would be a ceremony done by the Wizard Queen in the presence of the Church to 'anoint' a knight, while promotions to leadership positions would be handled by the Church directly. In regards to having regional ties, it sounds like they'd be traveling from city to city based on written pleas from the dukes and duchesses there to handle organized crimes or any criminal/unexplainable activity that is too much for the local guards.

Being a surviving member of the former king's royal guard also works. The surviving guard would have undergone many loyalty tests from the Wizard Queen. If they passed, they would have become her own royal guard. If they failed, they would end up in dead-end guard duty, or worse. The loyalty tests would tempt even the most devout man to betray the Wizard Queen, so the surviving guard would have to be either incredibly deceitful, or incredibly loyal to the royals to survive the tests.

Both ideas work. A traveling knight offers more stories around the province, while a surviving royal guard would have more story opportunities with the Wizard Queen. It's up to you what you want to do! :)

@twannyman, you have a great character, I really like them. The only thing I want to clear up is that finding the iron hand seed would have to line up with the creation of the seeds in the Glasic Fields, which was two years before the start of the story. As long as you're okay with having the Hands of Iron being around for about two years, I think this will work really well.

When you have found an image, please feel free to add them to the Character Tab. :)
@Estylwen

Gonna float some basic concepts past you for approval since I haven't decided which to run yet:

A. Noble mage who takes advantage of the Wizard Queen's rule to delve deep into forbidden magics. Necromancer, training acolytes and raising undead to bolster his domain.

B. Royal spymaster/assassin. Probably originally hired on while Evelyn was conquering the province, then converted/grandfathered into the position of head spook.

Both of these are great! I can see why you'd be torn to choose.

A necromancer would be super powerful. So much so that Evelyn may feel a bit threatened by it, and cause undue spying to be done.

A spymaster that survived the ascension and wasn't banished automatically has much, much more story potential. It means Evelyn and them would have been close for years, and that Evelyn would be sending them on missions throughout the province.

Both offer different stories, so I guess it's down to what kind of story you feel like. :) I approve them both.

Got it. Also, what races are there? We sticking with just humans?

There's humans, elves, dwarves, any fantasy race you want is available in the Arrowfell province, seeing as Hathforth's port makes it a hub for trading.
Given your setup, I'm assuming the position of the rebelling duke/duchess is also up for claiming?

The main rebelling duke who hasn't paid his taxes for months I've given to @ERode. However, having said that, anyone can rebel. They can rebel as loudly or as quietly as they want, whether that's feeding information to the growing rebellion, or straight up refusing to pay their own taxes, and meeting with ERode in secret.

Does that still fit with the character you're imagining? :)

So, how much of this RP takes place inside Hathforth Castle (e.g balls and feasts and politics and yapping) and how much of it takes place in the broader Arrowfell province? You mentioned an interfering duke that's preventing the Queen from getting total control of the Glasic Fields, but then there's also a straight up rebellion in place that I'm assuming isn't exactly peaceful.

Regardless,

Yes, you would be the interfering duke, and the people know from rumours on the wind that you have your eye on the crown, or something like that. The rebelling duke and the feelings of the people are one. However, no move, no big rebellion move, at least, has been made yet. We are on the cusp of it, and the Wizard Queen will be doing all they can to squash any rumours of rebellion, whether it's from the duke or from the people.

I imagine the main places the RP would take place is within Hathforth Castle, the Glasic Fields, and within the cities of neightbouring dukes. There is no limit to where we can go within the Arrowfell province.

How does all that sound?

Are we always meant to be a lord? I was considering playing as a Mercenary captain who has his own band still trying to become a lord, a bit like the historical Robert de Hauteville

I think your idea is great; it's not necessary to play as a lord. If that's something you want to move towards, you would only need to disregard anything in the CS that might not apply, like having your own city.

There's no limit to what you can make or do, as long as it revolves around the Queen and the coming fires of rebellion.
Interested!
