APPEARANCE

"I think I'm sexy.."

Zoey perfectly fits the "punk girl" mold; she dyed her hair, has plenty of tattoos, and just has that attitude that just reeks rebellion. Older folks are quick to judge a book by the cover and immediately classify her as a problem-child just off her looks alone while younger people are more receptive to her. Zoey carries herself with an air of confidence, but rather than just being a screaming wreck as people assume her, she is fairly chill and laid back. Taking slow and steady steps with her hands in her pocket, a cigarette hanging from her lips, and generally relaxed demeanor.

Though she's also a little rough, that might just be because she's a bit of a tomboy. Zoey had a sister that she wanted to desperately distance herself from, in terms of looks and demeanor. She smokes, she’s loud, and she drinks, and she tends to attract attention with her tomboyish streak. Her voice is a little rough from cigarette smoking, and she has a few scars and old wounds from previous injuries. Now, onto her appearance, Zoey is pretty pronounced due to a mixture of her hair, and her height. Her hair is a dark black color, but a few strands are a dyed cyan color which heavily sticks out against the natural color of her hairline. It's near-back length, and flowing in its appearance, and with the cyan strands, it looks pretty punk rock. Zoey’s hair in a straight texture that is kept clean - but is a bit damaged from all the hair-dye and a few mess-ups. The other thing that makes Zoey stand-out is her height, people like to call her a Goddamn Amazon because she’s six feet tall exactly.

She’s bony as hell, being skinny and without any sizable amount of body fat or muscle - She has like a thin layer of muscle if you squint, but there isn’t much there. A lot of her exercise comes from hauling ass from people she pissed off, otherwise, she spends plenty of time lounging around but she certainly does have a little sex appeal. Her bust is 38E, which is pretty big, and her hips are slightly prominent, but she doesn't pack a lot in the ass area, though. Her body is a rough-square build rather than the famed hour-glass build but in all honesty, you can honestly say that her body is more-boyish other than her breasts. In terms of ethnicity Zoey is white... she used to think that she was Irish but ancestry dot com told her that she was a mess of different countries but at least kinda Scottish. She found out that she was five-percent African actually.

On the back of her left hand she has a strange tattoo of a snowflake.

OTHER

Zoey has a nasty smoking habit... if she's not smoking a cigarette she's either run out, is in a nonsmoking building, or become a nun. The weather around her seems weird... it's almost like she's constantly followed by snow. The longer she stays in an area, the worse it is but sometimes it isn't that bad. There's a constant look of sorrow in the girl's eyes as she seems like she's haunted by something.

The Stranger who came back even stranger.

APPEARANCE

"I enjoy what I have."

The first thing that people notice about Odessa is her weird vibe. She has the appearance of a voudou priestess from many decades ago. What primarily tips these people off is the many tattoos on her body. She has various lines across her upper chest and neck, with her right arm covered in tattoos of waves and constellations and her left arm has symbols of beasts on them. There are tattoos on her legs of a mixture of trees, roots, and other plants. These are strange markings that could be her sigil or have some type of meaning that is supernatural related. Her hair is black and tied into thick dreadlocks that hang off the side of her head with some metal braids weaved into it. What's notable about Odessa's ears is the fact that she has her ear lobes stretched with a black ring inside of it. It's to the point where she can fit a huge earring inside of it. Along with the myriad of piercings... her nose is pierced, the middle of her forehead is pierced, and she even has her nipples pierced. This gives people the initial impression that she comes from a completely different culture and makes her stick out in a crowd.

Odessa looks like she's from Africa! However, the girl speaks with a completely American accent and is very nice and cheerful, always smiling and always giving off an air of confidence. The girl is African American with genes from parts unknown, she'll gladly tell you if you ask. She has very dark skin, afro-textured hair, thick lips, and the African skull shape. In terms of build, she's pretty curvy. She's not that top-heavy with her cup-size being 32D but she definitely fills out her jeans with her behind. Odessa's body is pear-shaped and she's in pretty good shape. She looks like she works out to stay in shape, but not enough that she puts on any significant muscle. In terms of height, however; she is below average at five feet tall exactly. In terms of attire, she dresses like most. Wearing sweat pants and t-shirts that are usually Nike, H&M, etc, etc.

OTHER

"I'm going to start living for me."

Doesn't seem to be bothered by the heat or the cold for some reason. She also is rarely seen eating but always drinks water, and she likes to bathe in the sunlight. If one had the right abstraction they would notice that she doesn't breathe nor does she have a heartbeat. She also knows an awful lot about the Extra-Normal.

APPEARANCE

Hagan is a big boy. A very intimidating figure standing at six-seven, and what doesn't help is that he's built pretty well due to exercise and working out. To him, he'd rather experience the high of working out, then stuff his face with sweets. Though he isn't a bodybuilder, he definitely has a definition. He looks like a thug, the kind of person that'd kick your ass at the slightest provocation. And that's definitely true. That's the vibe he wants to give off, the aura of an ass-kicker. The big man. He takes large steps and walks with his hand in his pocket. And when he's not walking, he usually has his arms crossed.

Hagan is from the big cities, and not that too used to small-town life. You can tell by his city slicker accent, and habit of speaking quickly. He has a somewhat deep voice, but nothing overtly intimidating. It's rougher than anything. Hagan is an Irish-man that is part Scottish, and part Russian. He appears more Russian than anything due to taking after his father. It's to the point where his mother has trouble explaining to people that Hagan is her son. He is Caucasian, with his skin being somewhat fair. There are quite a few scars on his body due to all the roughhousing he does. From fighting to childhood injuries, etc. His nose has always been a bit crooked from not healing correctly, either. His knuckles are also quite bruised.

Hagan's style shifts from practical, to sharp. For example, casually he's never seen out of jeans, or boots unless he's working out, or at home. Usually, he'll wear a T-shirt of some kind over top of that. When he wants to make an impression, he'll wear a jacket of some kind, and he always has a jacket for every occasion.

Paradise... a place that is strange beyond all strangeness. The city Paradise is only named by the signs and the pamphlets and media that have its name on it. However, what's strange is that the name "Paradise" seems to be added on top of other cities pamphlets and signs haphazardly. The city of Paradise is expansive, endless even. One could keep walking and more and more of the city keeps coming. However, what's strange is that the layout of the city seemingly changes depending on who is there. It'll become a familiar reflection of places the people there have been before - mainly their birth town or even other locations that are special to them. The town of Paradise is, generally, a sprawling city... that can change into a small town in desert-Nevada in an instant. What's strange is that the city of Paradise is completely... empty. Paradise has everything a person needs to survive - food, water, shelter, electricity - everything you'd expect to see in a regular city. Except minus the people that live in it, but the few people that do live in Paradise can sustain themselves for all eternity. Thus, the city of Paradise can be considered, well, a paradise.

However, inside of the city of Paradise lurks a hidden danger that betrays its name.

"The world of the Extra-Normal is like falling down a hole. The kind of hole you can't get out of. At least not easily."

There out there exists a force, a force like no other. One that allows a person to go further beyond the limits of what is considered natural and become something more... or less, depending on how you look at it. The simplest word for it all is Magic, and it's the gateway to infinite possibilities. It was originally locked away in this world because of the magic was used to keep the Glutton away, however when the new timeline was born the magic was returned to the universe. The collective term for it all is Extra-Normal, and there are many different types of Extra-Normal beings. Each of them gets their abilities depending on mere circumstance. Some get their abilities from a moment of powerful emotions, others inherit it, some are phantasms of the deceased or spawned from belief and emotion, and others are the result of a chance encounter with those phantasms.

Each of them has innate abilities that each of them have across the board. To begin many magical abilities are completely invisible to those who aren't Extra-Normal (Known as Blind). Only the Extra-Normal can perceive them but there are certain abilities that can be seen by all. The Extra-Normal can read the auras of things that they have a connection through walls and over distances, have a barrier around them known as an Emotional Field which protects them from each other's abilities, and can experience a Recollection, a vision of the past that is somewhat related to them.

However, these are merely sub-abilities, and every Extra-Normal being has an ability that is unique to them known as an Abstraction. Abstractions are the collective term used for a magical ability of any time and it's determined by the type of being. However, Abstractions are vast, strange, and no two abstractions are ever the same.

Extra Normal Beings

AWAKENED

---

The Awakened are the most common and versatile type of Extra-Normal beings. They open their minds to the greater universe via a moment of powerful emotion, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a negative emotion. The abstraction they gain reflects them in some way or another (Such a person who desires control would get a telekinetic power or an angry person would gain pyromancery) and they have a brand on them known as a Sigil on them that denotes their ability. Sigils are invisible to the Blind and the Awakened have their own set of abilities. The Awakened are capable of transferring their abstractions amongst other Awakened (or to Blind that they have a particular connection to), either wholly or bits and pieces. An Awakened can have several abstractions but they can only use one at a time... unless they're in a Collective-Awakening. Which many people Awaken at the same time and they each get a piece of everyone's ability in the Collective along with a mechanic in which their abstractions interact. A member of the Collective can use every ability at the same time. Finally, there's the Subsequent-Awakening, in which, after great change, an Awakened can manifest a brand new ability to reflect them. It's possible for a Subsequent-Awakening to be a Collective.

GM Notes

The bread and butter of the setting and probably the most common and simplistic of the types. All I ask for is that the abstraction reflects some part of their character, I'm pretty loose about that. Just don't be lame and say something like "Likes running so has super speed". I'm thinking stuff like somebody gets the ability to launch people because they were attacked, someone with kindness gets healing, etc. The Collective-Awakening can also be interesting.

ADEPTS

Adepts are individuals from a different universe known as Glint, a universe owned by a collective known as the League of Luminescence. Ages ago the world of Glint was nearly wiped clean by the universe eating abomination Glutton and after it's defeat the magical families that once were in the shadows took over. Establishing the League of Luminscience, but most of the people in this universe are one of the exiles or runaways that were cast away and carried their genes. The Adepts are more in line with traditional wizards and mages, and they use an object known as a Channeler to cast their spells. A channeler is an object in which the Adept has an emotional connection to and it's possible to use an object that they don't have a connection to but the casting is far weaker. Each Adept is connected to a different light known as Lux which unlocks different magical abilities, the more kinds of Lux an Adept is attached to, the less powerful they are overall. Each light of Lux corresponds with a particular emotion and when the Blind carrying Adept genes experiences that emotion they undergo a Kindling Event. A Kindling-Event is when the Blind receives a vision of their ancestors who tells them about their heritage, or alternatively a vision of the future of them using their spells. In any case an Adept has a collection of Spells they must learn and practice before they are able to utilize them - Adepts find it easier to learn spells that correspond with their personality. Older Adepts are among the most powerful.

Types of Lux

Red (Rage/Hatred): Elemental Lux, the most common type of Lux. Examples: Fire, ice, electricity, earth, plant manipulation, and similar abilities.

Green (Happiness): Biological Lux, the second most common type of Lux. Examples: Healing, shape-shifting, wing generation, etc,

Yellow (Fear/Caution): Stealth and shielding Lux. Examples: Invisibility, barrier generation/forcefields, dumbing sound down, etc.

Pink (Love): Mind Lux, and the fourth most common type of Lux. Examples: Emotion manipulation, mind control, telepathy, illusion creation, etc.

Gold (Pride): Summoning Lux, the third rarest type of Lux - allows an Adept to create or summon a minion. Examples include: Creating minions of choice, summoning a defeated monster, etc

Purple (Anticipation): Movement Lux, the third most common type of Lux. Examples include: Teleportation, Portal Creation (a common abstraction in the League), telekinesis, etc

Cyan (Nostalgia): Sight Lux. Examples include: Observing locations remotely, seeing into the past/future, enhanced vision, etc.

Orange (Courage): Infusion Lux, the ability to infuse objects temporarily or permanently with Extra-Normal properties. Orange Lux synergizes well with every other type of Lux. Examples: Creating a magic sword, making an object levitate, etc, etc.

Blue (Sadness): Curse-Lux, the rarest form of Lux. The ability to cast curses, but needs a stipulation to be broken - synergizes often with Black and Gold Lux. Examples: Cursing someone to turn into a monster, creating a deadly illness, cursing someone to be haunted by the dead, etc

Lavender (Hope): Purification and Strengthening Lux. Examples: Boosting other Extra-Normal beings power, removal of curses, removing diseases, etc

Black (Apathy): Necromancery Lux, the ability to manipulate the dead. Examples: Creating zombie minions, manipulating apparitions and spirits, etc

GM Notes

Adepts are probably my second favorite out of the types so I'm biased. They're probably the most complex given how Lux n' shit works. I should note that newer adepts (aka what should be most of the cast) should only have access to three or five spells at a time - and I demand a list of spells they can cast in their abstraction section. Keep in mind the more types of Lux they have access to, the overall weaker their abilities should be. Also please run any new spells by me first.

APPARITIONS

Ghosts, Phantasms, Demons, whatever you call them, they are strange beings. Apparitions are likely the vaguest and esoteric of all the Extra-Normal beings but are among the most impactful. They are in line with ghosts as they are not comprised of flesh and blood, but instead, magic. They are beings that were created a particularly powerful emotion or belief or they're the phantasm of a deceased with strong emotion in them. The Awakened are more likely to become Apparitions just from their nature. They are powered by the same emotions/belief that created them and can grow exponentially powerful depending on how great it is. However, on the flip side they can fade from existence if it fades. This is why some Apparitions are ancient in age. Apparitions can have any type of abstraction reflecting their belief or the person they once were when they passed - but their abstractions can shift in time. If an Apparition is destroyed they'll merely regenerate in time, which is why a technique known as Sealing is used to disable them. Apparitions are invisible to the Blind unless they choose to be visible.

How to seal Apparitions

It's simple to seal an Apparition. First one needs an object to seal them inside of, something small preferably so it can be easily hidden. Then an Extra-Normal being has to draw sigils, or any symbol that they truly believe will seal the Apparition into the object. Then they must battle the Apparition, damage it enough, and get it to the sigils. Then they can activate the seal and trap the Apparition inside the object. Larger apparitions require bigger sigils to be drawn or for them to be far weaker, but all an Apparition has to do is be in the area to be sealed.

GM Notes

Apparitions are going to be heavily restricted for a number of reasons, you can only make an Apparition if you get permission for me. Apparitions apart of an Aberration are fully allowed.

ABERRATION

Aberrations are what are considered to be "outside the lines". Aberrations are people who have had contact with the Extra-Normal and gained either a blessing or a curse from their abilities. Almost all Abberattions are created from Blind interacting with Apparitions in one way or another but there are cases of Aberrations being created from other Extra-Normals. Unlike the other types of Extra-Normals; Animals and humans alike can become Aberrations due to their strange nature. Aberrations are considered to be extra-normal beings, so they can use all of the baseline abilities, but only the Blind can become an Aberration. Due to the odd nature of the Aberrations, they are separated into five subclasses:

Affixed: Are those who have an Apparition attached to their soul and utilize their abilities. Either the Apparition uses their own abstraction or the Affixed is allowed to use it - or both.

Afflicted: A person who gained an abstraction through being cursed by an Apparition.

Agent: A person who has contact with an Apparition that has been sealed inside an object and can use their abstraction by proxy.

Adjoined: A person who has been fused with an Apparition on a physical or mental level. Is either capable of shifting into the Apparition's form, mentally combined and can use their abstraction, or is permanently fused.

Abscised: An Abscised is an Apparition that has taken over somebody's body and can use their abstraction through them.

My favorite type of Extra-Normal beings. They'll require a bit of thought as you'll have to come up with how they'll become an Aberrant (mainly running into an Aberrations). But with Aberrants you aren't limited by belief or personality or whatever and can come up with anything.

The Blind: The term used for people who do not have an Extra-Normal ability of any type. After coming in contact with the Extra-Normal enough a Blind can become One-Eye-Open and perceive the Extra-Normal.

Traveler/Counterpart: A person from one of the many strange universes out there. In proximity to their counterpart they'll gain a mental link that'll allow them to share thoughts/memories and possibly see each other's auras.

The Hound: The embodiment of black death that leads souls to the other side. An absolutely ancient and powerful being that is beyond even the other types of Extra-Normal. Strange and mysterious, but takes the shape of a black wolf. If a person doesn't die when they're supposed to, he'll know and hunt them down to the end of the earth. The only other time you'll see him is if you seek him out and he deems you worthy of his time. He acts in mysterious ways; he will sometimes cut deals with people for his help or a bit of his power... but he always has a price. The Hound is universally feared across the multiverse.

GM Notes

You can be a Blind or have One-Eye-Open along with being a Traveler (If you're making a traveler run the universe they're from by me first; certain things are out the question). Just know that your character won't have an Emotional-Field and will be susceptible to the wide range of powers!

And no, you can't play the Hound.

The Tragedy of Farmer Hill

Farmer Hill, Montana.

A place few people have heard of, being a small town in the middle of nowhere. However, it couldn't have been more important. Eons ago, all the magic in the universe was used to seal a powerful God-like being known as the Glutton. This thing was an incomprehensible ball of orange light that tortured countless universes and then devoured them and has feasted to the point where it was near invincible. Its rampage was brought to an end in the universe of Glint where combined forces brought the thing down and sealed it in a mountain in a different universe. That different universe is the world where the story takes place, and that mountain was Mount Ever Reaching in Farmer Hill.

It was where the Glutton lied dormant for ages upon ages - the League of Luminscience manipulated Farmer Hill to keep the citizens away from the mountain and the existence of magic a secret. However, it all changed when the seals that kept the Glutton dormant were broken by somebody's foolishness and it was allowed to feast off of what sustained it: emotions. The Glutton's first action was attacking a campsite full of people by corrupting one powerful minion and inadvertently Awakened the people that would defeat it. It tormented this group as they tried to find a way to defeat it; ultimately knocking them into a coma for a few months.

In this few months, the Glutton turned Farmer Hill upside-down - mind-controlling countless people and turning the town into a chaotic warzone. Anyone who entered Farmer Hill was enthralled as well and in this chaos; the Glutton slaughtered any Awakened or Extra-Normal beings that it could with impunity and tortured them endlessly in its domain. However, the Awakened that was put into a coma, well, awakened from it and rebelled against it. Ultimately, they engaged in one final battle against the Glutton in the mountain, and, out of desperation to escape, the Glutton broke the seals that were binding it. However, by doing this the Glutton injured itself to the point where it was eliminated and the multiverse was free from it.

However, these events were reversed as a new timeline was born from the "death" of the Glutton. A new timeline where Farmer Hill was destroyed in a catastrophic earthquake and the Awakened that the Glutton killed were resurrected. However, with the death of the Glutton, the magic was returned.
