@CaptainSully it destroys projectiles, as in you need to actually strike the incoming attack to negate it. At the point of destruction it creates a spherical area called an 'Earth Bind' that automatically destroys any projectile that comes into contact it; the 'Earth Bind' would last for maybe 30 seconds or is removed when a second one is created. It also disappears when an enemy comes into contact with it, dealing damage to that enemy.

Basically it has the same in-game effects as Hakumen's Okami from Blazblue if you are familiar with that.
Name: Ryuhei Takagi
Race: Human
Ki Color: ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇
Power Level: 910
Location: North Capital
Tag:@Holy Soldier Open

Ryuhei opened his eyes to see the familiar ceiling of the dojo above him, albeit with a not so familiar hole in its centre. His head felt like it had been split by an axe, an intense pain radiating from the back of his skull all the way through to a point behind his eyes; he raised a hand to his face, pressing a palm to his forehead as he tried to sit up.

“You’re awake.”

He resisted the urge to turn around, knowing it would only cause him more pain. It was easy to recognise the voice of his master even without looking to see his face anyway, the deep bass tones being a continual presence in his life the past few years. Pulling himself up into a sitting position Ryuhei winced as he felt his ribs complain, along with several smaller twinges of pain along his arms. He felt like he had been through another kumite and lost. “What happened?”

“We were attacked.” Now he did turn to face his master, finding the older man also sitting down and looking just as bad as he felt, if not worse. A set of bloodied bandages were wrapped around his middle, a trickle of dried blood stained the left side of his mouth and his arms and torso were covered in bruises. Even more than that, the dojo they were sitting in was completely trashed; the hole in the ceiling was the worst of the damage by far, but there were small craters and cracks in several places on the floor and a few large dents or holes in the walls as well. “Give it time. It will come back to you.”

They weren’t alone. Several of the older and more experienced students were in the room with them; he just hadn’t noticed them at first. They walked around, picking up and clearing out rubble or stood attentively off by Goichi’s side; there were a couple standing near him as well, both sending the occasional worried glance his way. Presumably there were there in case it looked like he needed help.

Crossing his legs, Ryuhei placed an elbow on one knee and rest his head in the palm of his hand. He closed his eyes and tried to think of the last thing he could remember. The news report, Parsley City, Master Goichi sending them outside, the streak of yellow light hitting the dojo, the fight, Master Goichi being injured…

“That alien. What happened after I was knocked out?”

“Nothing. He just left.” Goichi began to shift, trying to find a more comfortable position, only to wince in pain as he began to cough harshly. One of the students standing near him rushed to his side to help, only to be pushed away; Ryuhei could see red stains on his hand as he did so. “He must have thought us beaten or as good as dead and saw no reason to finish us off. After he left the student returned and patched me up. What a terrible teacher I must be; none of my students can follow even a simple order to stay away.”

Ryuhei couldn’t help but grin even given the dire circumstances; he might have tried to put up a front of being annoyed at their disobedience, but Ryuhei could tell that his master was grateful that they had returned as well as being pleased that they had cared enough to do so. His mirth faded quickly however, as his thoughts turned back to Dyce and what the alien had said. “Dyce… he’s not going to stop with just Parsley City. He’s going to wipe out everyone.”

“I know.”

“I can’t let him do that.”

“…I know.”

There was a pause as both student and master put of saying what needed to be said next.

“I won’t be able to help you in this state.”

“I know. I’m doing it anyway.”

“You’re not strong enough to beat him by yourself. You’ll lose.” It didn’t need to be said what losing meant in this situation.

“I know… I’m doing it anyway. It’ll be the same result if no-one stops him anyway; I want to at least give it my best shot.”

Goichi nodded approvingly before lapsing into another silence. After a couple of minutes the older martial artist raised head and turned to face north. “He’s coming this way again; he’s been flying all over the place, probably eliminating other strong fighters like us. If you’re going to face him, now is your chance. With any luck you won’t be alone.”
@CaptainSully the CS looks a little different to what you originally said in regards to items. Instead of 2 rare items and one unique item, are character now only allowed one rare/unique item?

Specific to my plans, if I wanted to give my character a sword that had the ability to destroy projectiles, creating an area of space that blocked further projectiles in the process, would that count as their only artefact?
@CaptainSully I'm guessing larger living areas lead to being able to store more stuff, so that's in line with what I was thinking. Plus garages for vehicles.

PvP seems like a gamble, as it should be. You have the chance to kill and loot some powerful items from other players but could just as easily lose your best equipment in the process.

There should probably be some kind of loss attributed to PvE deaths. A loss of money at least, rather than a loss of items.

@Vocab looks like your right; there are levels for your avatar that caps at 99. It increases your attributes and lets you unlock new objects and weapons, so I guess some gear is level capped.
@ZAVAZggg there are no stats or levels in The Oasis, so dying and 'Zeroing out' was simply a loss of all items and money your character had. This does seem extremely harsh and honestly sounds like bad game design, but makes more sense when you think of it as less of a game and more of a second world; not everyone who enters it is a gamer.

Most players didn't want to take the risk of losing everything they'd gained, so they stuck to the safe areas where combat wasn't allowed and nothing could kill you. It was only the people who were willing to take the risk or were confident in their abilities that ventured further out.

I would like to see some kind of storage system implemented. A way to store items and money and save them from deletion should you die; obviously this storage would cost money to buy so the more money you managed to acquire the more of your stuff you could protect.
“I will accompany you. It would do well to familiarise myself with the town and its surroundings before it becomes a battlefield.” Knowledge was power. An old cliché perhaps, but no less true for it; especially for one such as him, who relied on his mind far more than the strength of his arms or the swiftness of his feet to claim victory. “Maps would be useful, if the library has them, but nothing compares to first-hand experience in this regard.”

It would also be wise to seek as much information as possible on their opponents; their strategies would be far more discernable if he had even an inkling of what they were capable of, or had some idea of what drove them in life. Assassin was surely hiding some kind of trick, else she would not have been summoned in such a class; her past might give some hint as to what that was. And Lancer… perhaps his Master’s words had contributed to her soured mood somewhat, but it had seemed to him like she had somehow taken offence to the idea that he would prefer to keep his name hidden.

“I’m unaware of a Heroic Spirit — especially one of the last warriors to roam the battlefields of Age of the Gods — who would not feel pride in having their identity be recognized by others”

It would seem his legend had travelled quite far indeed since his death; even heroes from lands far from his own knew who he was. It was hard not to feel some pride in that, his deeds had earned him the right to be remembered as one of the greatest tacticians who ever lived and rightfully so, even if personal glory had never been his main goal in life.

But this was a war, one where having your name and abilities known put one at a large disadvantage. He may have been proud of his moniker as the ‘Father of Strategy’ but if announcing it only weakened his position relative to his opponents then why would he knowingly reveal it? He may be a Heroic Spirit but he still considered himself a general first and foremost; his first priority would always be the claim victory in this war.

“Have you given any thought towards how we are going to make use of our new ally? It was you who suggested the alliance after all; though I have a feeling it was a spur of the moment decision for you.”

Thomas awakened not long after Archer did, emerging from his bedroom fully dressed and eager to start the new day. Although, there was not as much to do today as he had hoped; alas, his hunt last night had proven futile and he had not been able to find even a single person who might have been one of the other Masters in the war. This would set back his preparations, something which he had not wanted to do as it could cost him the war entirely.

“Good morning Archer. Did you make much progress last night?”

Hopefully his Servant’s attempt to set up an information network had been more fruitful than his own endeavours, and also that the money he had provided the man with had been spent well. Heading for the kitchen he began boiling water for tea, somewhat despondent over the lack of a kettle, and made preparations for breakfast.

While the water boiled the Magus walked over to where he had left his luggage the previous night. Opening the smaller of the two suitcases, the one which held all of accoutrements of his magecraft, he pulled out a small paper-wrapped parcel and carried it over to the coffee table before sitting down on the couch. Removing the wrapping from the parcel revealed a small block of wax and at the same time Thomas pulled a small penknife from his pocket and placed it on the table next to it.

Reaching up to touch the frame of his glasses the Magus activated the magecraft latent within them, the image of a blue-haired young woman appearing before his eyes as the memory stored within them was brought out. Picking up the knife and the wax Thomas began to skilfully carve the block into a likeness of the executioner he had seen last night, catching a glimpse of the woman as he waited to see if anyone would make a late night visit to the church.

Even if he didn’t intend to do anything with it, creating a poppet linked to the churches operative may prove useful later on; you could never tell how events might play out and the witch was always a fan of being overly prepared. Besides, without an image of any of the other Masters to work with it wasn’t like he could start preparations against them anyway and he needed something to pass the time with as he listened to Archer’s report.

The GM's dislike of MLP aside, I think any avatar that is far from humanoid would be too awkward for the player to control anyway. Assuming the Universe uses the same motion control as RPO.

Quadrapeds of any kind are kind of off the table.
Savage Resurrection is the game I was thinking of. Though it seems like this is a fairly common idea.
One person designated as “general” for each side with everyone acting as infantry etc. The non-generals receive instructions that they have to follow. For the general it’d look like a tabletop game while the troops would experience it like an FPS.

There's a game exactly like this that I've forgotten the name of. Most players are in a third person perspective, spawning in as whatever classes are available and trying to assault the other team's base, while one player in playing an RTS, building the base, gathering resources and researching upgrades and new classes for the others.
