5:10 PM - Thursday, July 17th, 2025 - Château de La Lune, France

@PatientBean@TheMaster99@KazAlkemi@Morose@Trainerblue192@kittyluna45@KTostada

The awkwardness of the exchange was quickly put behind the guests of the La Lunes. Many seemed quite pleased with Lawrence's removal from the room. Not long after, the main dishes were brought out. For those who ordered the steak or the vegetarian option, they were given a red wine. The salmon just received a top off of the white wine served with salad, if needed. The steak was cooked to perfection, more on the rarer side than medium, and covered in a thick peppercorn sauce.

The wine poured for the steak and eggplant parmesan was called "Rouge Éclipse." It smells of ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and blackcurrants. Its palate is silky and refined, with bright acidity that lifts the wine’s soft tannins. The mid-palate reveals a medley of raspberry, cranberry, and a whisper of vanilla, leading into a gentle trace of clove and cracked black pepper, harmonizing with the dish’s spiciness. And the finish of the wine is long and lingering, with a velvety texture and a smoky minerality. It is the perfect complement to the richness of the steak.

Where Richard sat at the end of the table, looking at his dish and then looking around for something on the table. When he seemingly failed to find it, he asked one of the maids. “Could you see about getting some of the HP sauce out for me?”

Elenore, at the other end of the table, snapped “Aurélia, he does not need the HP sauce. The steak already has a sauce.”

“Tell the missus that I don’t care what she thinks I need. A steak needs HP Sauce.”

“Tell him he is debasing himself by using that sauce on a steak that has been cooked perfectly.” Neither person actually allows Aurélia time to make it from one end of the table to the other to pass the information and is instead talking loudly enough for everyone to hear their argument. Aurélia seems to wilt a little under the attention of the two, deciding instead to pretend that she never heard the request for the HP sauce in the first place. Renee catches her attention and whispers something to Aurélia. When Aurélia returns from the kitchen, she carefully passes the HP sauce to Renee, who happily slathers it on her steak before passing it under the table to Richard. Elenore either doesn’t notice or pretends not to.

On Elenore, and therefore Constance and Tony’s side of the table. The conversation there was deeply involved in the food and the wine. Elizabeth drew the conversation to the wine side while Beatrice focused on the food side. They chatted with Constance about how the wine paired perfectly with the salad and fig.

When Tony returned, Beatrice leaned over the table to say in more of a stage whisper than anything that was meant to be kept secret. “Thank you for looking after him. I know he can be an ass, but he usually isn’t so bad if he has had less to drink. I don’t know why he had so much today.” She tsked, sat back in her chair, and talked about how the balsamic vinaigrette paired perfectly with the figs. When her salmon is brought out she discusses the highlights of the beurre sauce.

The center of the table had calmed down a bit with Lawrence’s removal. There was now a large gap of seats between Tony and Ivanna. There were just two empty chairs; one of the maids had cleared their settings. It made the table feel uneven as one side was full of people and the other had only seven people.

Ralph watched the exchanges between the staff and the La Lunes. The slight bickering and obvious old fights thoroughly amused him. This dinner has already cemented itself as the most interesting dinner he has had in a while, at least since he entered the private sector.

The conversation between Millicent, Sam, and Miguel was also interesting. Sam and Miguel were basically in the same profession. Millicent was a magician, which was fascinating. Ralph knew precious little about magic except the few episodes of Fool Us he had seen here and there. It seemed neat, and that got him wondering what the others did.

He leans over to Miguel and whispers, "Impressive punch. Eu também sou bi.” He grins and offers a fist bump. Sure, Spanish and Portuguese weren’t technically the same language, but they were close enough that sometimes understanding could be had between the two languages.

Wadsworth, carrying one plate of each dish, approaches Miguel. “Monsieur, you did not mark a preference, and our Chef decided to err on the side of caution. Which dish would you like?”

Andy nodded at Leah as she came up and told Vision she’d be waiting outside. Okay, so they could go outside. That answered some of Andy’s questions. She figured Leah wanted to talk to Vision about something, but she wasn’t sure why. Diana answered some of that with what she said next. Diana told Andy that Nimue was in the Otherworld because of something happening to Ser Nemo. Andy didn’t know what happened to Ser Nemo. What Diana said didn’t tell her either.

Zari finally showed up, and said something to her. Andy had feared that Zari was mad at her since she had gone to Magneto's house. Despite planning on breaking up with her, Andy didn’t want Zari to be mad at her. But what she said was basically a goodbye. Andy didn’t even get to say anything in response. She blinked, and Zari was gone. Andy figured Zari had returned home since her watch had been beeping. Zari had told her that the watch wasn’t working. So, had something happened to allow her to go home? She just stared at the spot that Zari had been moments ago with her mouth open.

She needed to sit down again. This was a whole lot. She had planned on breaking up with Zari, but now it felt like Zari had broken up with her. She swayed a little on her feet as she went through a series of emotions quickly. The flash of anger passed faster than she expected. The final emotion she landed on was relief. She’d miss Zari, but this made it a lot easier. It also solidified for Andy that Zari hadn’t loved her similarly. That the attraction had been one-sided.

Now what?

Andy still didn’t know what she was supposed to be doing. At least, it seemed they were done. And without Zari to wait for, without Zari to drag her somewhere. She felt like a stick bobbing in the water. Suddenly, the current that had been dragging her around was gone. She was alone.

Andy heard Danni talking. She looked over and saw her friends around the room. Danni was talking with Agatha. Andy wasn’t alone. She smiled. She had friends. There were more people in the world than Zari. She had already known that. Sure, she had been planning to break up with Zari; she just hadn’t expected her to leave. That was what had caused her to lose her focus. It was okay, though. Andy would be okay. She had found her dad. She didn’t have to deal with her mom. There was a burden and half just from that.

With no hesitation, Andy joined Dorian and Danni. She’d figure out what was going on later. "How’d your exam go?” she asked. "I found out I’m cursed, apparently.” Somehow, that didn’t surprise Andy, not one bit.

Upon entering the dining room, everyone will find a lavishly styled room. The table is ridiculously long, with settings out for twenty-one people. Each spot has a card with their names delicately written in fancy calligraphy. The setting is for a four-course meal: salad, main, cheese, and dessert. There are three glasses: a water glass, a red wine glass, and a white glass. There are several beautiful bouquets of flowers set as decoration around the room. Millicent will recognize the flowers as all from the garden she just wandered.

Both Leon and Wadsworth are in the room. Leon is pouring wine into an aerator. Wadsworth and the two maids start helping people to their seats. Juliena keeps glancing at something in her hand as she does.

As Lawrence and Ivanna are seated next to each other he makes a disgusted face that Miguel will recognize. “I didn’t know this award included fake women.” He looked over at Rihannon, his face shifted this time to a lecherous leer. “I would much rather sit next to her.”

People filtered into the foyer. Ralph joined some who were already gathered there. He recognized some of the faces from the limo and boat, but others were new to him. As the clock chimed five o'clock, the doors to the dining room opened, and Wadsworth waved them in.

Elenore sat at the head of the table near the foyer doors, Richard on the other end of the table. There was some shuffling around as people were led to or found their seats. Ralph smiled as he realized he was sitting next to Sam. On the other side of him was Miguel. Sitting across from him was a young lady he didn’t recognize. Ralph assumed she must be one of the La Lunes. She held herself with almost perfect stillness that seemed unnatural. She was like a windup toy that was waiting for someone to put her into motion. Ralph seemed to be in a small cluster of nominees. He remembered faces from the trip, but he only knew Sam and Renee’s names.

As Ralph was settled into his seat, the sommelier came over and poured a glass of white wine for him. The water glass was already filled with icy water. Ralph caught that the wine was called "Lune d’Or," which made him think that it was from La Lune’s vineyard. He was excited about getting to try their wine. He took a careful sip. Ralph was no expert on wine taste; he usually bought Barefoot, if he was buying wine at all. He smelled honeyed pear and citrus zest, and as he took a sip, he got both of those flavors strongly. It left a slight mineral aftertaste. In general, he liked it. Depending on how much the wine costs, he might buy it instead going forward, but with import and export fees, he probably wouldn’t go for it. Barefoot was a California wine and was cheap but surprisingly good.

When Sam sat next to him, Ralph smiled; a soft smile was coming from one corner of his mouth. "Lucky us.” He whispered to him. Ralph was happy that Sam was sitting next to him. He was nervous about all these strangers. The process of how this whole thing worked was unknown, too. He wondered if they’d have to compete or something to decide the winner. But how would the competition be fair? He was a pilot. Sam wasn’t. He didn’t think everyone there was from a similar profession. Ralph hadn’t looked at the list of names, so he couldn’t be sure. Now, he regretted not taking a closer look at the boards when they went up to their rooms. However, Ralph had never considered himself much of a competitive person.

As everyone settled in their seats and the sommelier finished pouring the white wine into everyone’s glasses, Elenore cleared her throat just right, so everyone’s attention was drawn to her. Ralph noticed that most of the La Lune’s immediately looked at her. The exception was the man at the other end of the table. He seemed to take his time.

“Hello, everyone. It is so wonderful to have you all here on time.” She paused as she looked down the rows of people. Her eyes stopped at one empty seat between a larger man and an impeccably dressed male nominee. Ralph couldn’t hear what she said, but she hissed something that Constance would “Agatha,” before looking directly across the table at another La Lune man. He only shrugs. Elenore signs and continues with her speech.

“I’m sure many of you have lots of questions about what this event is about. We try to keep the details under wraps as this is such a prestigious award.” Those sitting near Lawrence hear him snort just slightly. Elenore continues on as if she didn’t hear it; maybe she didn’t.

“You have all worked very hard to get to where you are today. This award is about recognizing that work, that effort. In giving you praise for your efforts, we also give the winner of the award an extra leg up. The honor of the award and the money can drive your career to new heights. Previous winners of the award find themselves with many more doors open to them.” Anyone who happens to look at Jeanne will see her roll her eyes slightly. Elenore does not see this.

“Tonight is about chatting and getting to know you. Do not feel pressured to be anything but yourself. We want to know the real you. Dinner will consist of four courses, and after, we will go to the rec room for drinks. Please mingle around with each other and my family during this time. I look forward to getting to know all of you over the next couple of days.” She claps her hands, and between Wadsworth and the maids, salads are brought out and placed in front of each person. The salad is a large wedge salad with candied walnuts (in a small cup to the side), figs, and a balsamic reduction as the dressing.

Andy had finished her exam. She was back out in the waiting room. She saw a lot of her friends and fellow students milling about. Would she have to wait for all of them to finish to go back to the K-G house? She frowned. She didn’t know how they’d get back.

Andy looked around, trying to find her coach. She didn’t see Lady Nimue anywhere. Nor did she see Nemo. Only the Vision. He was with the Young Avengers team as they were waiting to be seen. She also spotted Agatha talking with Mads. Where was her coach? Andy chewed her lip, thinking.

Deciding she would just wait for the others to finish their exams, Andy sat back down. Several group members must still be in exams, as she didn’t see them, and others were in line. Andy closed her eyes and tried to relax. The room was crowded, which had made her uncomfortable. Everyone in here probably had powers; she doubted anyone in here didn’t have them. She wished Zari was done so they could talk.

Seeing Magneto had been a relief. It had reduced a lot of her concerns. She let the feelings about the meeting settle into her. However, she did give up trying to sit there with her eyes closed. She wished she had her jacket. She wanted the comfort of it. Really, she just wished she knew what she was supposed to do next. The exams themselves weren’t long, but there were a lot of students there. Probably one hundred and only ten rooms. That meant each room would have to process ten students. At about ten minutes a turn, it would take over an hour for everyone to finish.

She considered just going up to the Vision and asking him what they were supposed to do next. But she didn’t know him. Would he recognize her? She could at least ask where Lady Nimue was. Once she found Lady Nimue, she could find out what was next. The only thing she knew for sure was that she was supposed to be here for the exam, but that was over.

Giving up on waiting, she walked over to the Vision and waited for a moment to interrupt. ”Uh, sorry, but I can’t find Lady Nimue.” At least she was wearing a Margaret Carter Institute sweater. That would likely indicate to him she was one of their students.

"I'm ready. I've got Demi's things and mine. Unless you wanna swing by the armory?" Andy didn't need anything from there she already had all the weapons she needed. Though it did make her miss Arthur again. His ability combined with hers made for a great area attack. She missed him and wished they could have had more time together before his dad took him away. Upon Stella's negative Andy nods and starts heading for the beach.

She made sure to take in the views of camp as they walked. There were a handful of other campers running around grabbing things. Some others watched the drama unfolding. But really she wanted this moment to be frozen in her memory. She knew how hard Quests were. If she didn't have something to tether herself to she might lose the will to fight. So this place, her home, she tethered herself to. Promised she'd come back here.

"Come on, Chocolate." She whistled for the hellhound to follow her.

Niah pushed the other thoughts away. She'd talk with Nancy. Actually have a real conversation with her. They'd figure out the future together. Not in hopes and guess about the other person.

Niah finished packing. She made sure her personal belongings that she wasn't taking with her were locked in the chest in her tent. She trusted most of the Romans, but she didn't want her books to go missing. They had important clues for her. But she also had no desire to carry the extra weight of them.

Once that was all dealt with she started toward the beach. Towards the quest that would bring Mads home. Reunite her friends. It would fix things. Right?

Note: This will be the last post before dinner. Please end your post when you arrive in the dining room. You may do mini-collabs with each other if you're crossing paths or with La Lune Family/Staff. If the latter, let me know, and I will give you descriptions and responses.

Anyone still in their room will get a knock on the door. Wadsworth is there asking for their dinner request. Anyone not in their room, the next time you enter, you’ll find that the dinner note is gone. The maids will also be delivering luggage. If you have not already gotten your bag, you will get it at this time. Thankfully, the luggage is not mixed up. All the correct pieces go to the correct rooms.

@TheMaster99 On Tony’s way back to the room, he will see Felix Wadsworth knocking on doors and collecting cards. As he arrives at his room, Wadsworth will collect the dinner card. His bags are in the room waiting for him.

@PatientBean The temperature outside has dropped more, and the wind has picked up more. The sky is a bruised color, clouds rolling in. The gardens are to the west of the building. The entrance was several arches that had rose plants growing over and around them. Upon entering the garden, Millicent realizes it has several paths that break off quickly, taking any of them loops back in on themselves over and over, and the paths become difficult to discern. If Millicent uses the ‘hand on one wall’ trick, she will eventually be able to figure out the path. It takes time, and some of the paths seem to double back on themselves. She almost feels as if the path has changed on her. There are several small sitting areas within the garden paths, and the plants are all well cared for. Persistence will bring her to the center of the garden, where she will find an area that is set up to allow for small bonfires. There are comfortable seats around the fire pit. An older man, probably in his fifties, is clearing some weeds from one of the planter boxes.
(DM me a starter if you talk to him.)

@Nallore The bartender looks up from the cup he was rinsing. “Hello, mademoiselle. Welcome, what may I get for you?”

The large man sitting at the bar looked at Elise from head to toe and then back up again. He gave out a low whistle when he stopped, his eyes not looking at her face.

“Oh, the fates have smiled upon us.” He moved seats so he was no longer sitting on the last seat of the four and instead took one of the two middle ones. “You’ll have to forgive me. I’m not great with putting pictures to faces and names. What is your name, mademoiselle?”
(DM me, and we can knock this scene out.)

@KazAlkemi Wadsworth does not knock on your door since you left the card outside the room for him.

Ralph

”I’ll be out in a second.” Ralph said. He quickly dried his hands and exited the bathroom through the door on his side. He hadn’t paid attention enough to know who he shared the bathroom with. He’d have to figure that out later.

Ralph shoved the photo in his bag. He didn’t want to think about it. He was supposed to have put that all behind him. Ralph didn’t want to sit in his room. He got dressed quickly. He made his dinner selection of steak. Uncertain what to do with the card, he just left it on the desk and left the room. As he was leaving the hall, he saw the butler in the hall.

“Your dinner reservation card, monsieur?”

”It is on the desk. I wasn’t sure what to do.”

“Thank you. I shall collect it.”

He left the hall and turned right; it was the only option there. Upstairs, there were two sets of doors, and the stairs led back down. The far set of doors had a keypad next to them. He frowned a bit, trying to think why a personal home would require such security. The only other option led into the ballroom. Elenore was there; she was in the downstairs portion, which could be seen by looking over the balcony of the upstairs portion. On the mezzanine level, there were several sitting areas. The whole of it was half decorated.

Here, there were two more sets of doors. One set was locked with a keypad. Ralph figured the family must be obsessive about keeping their area private from the guests. He wondered how often they had guests that this was something they needed to do. Or maybe there had been an issue in a previous year that caused them to block it off.

That left the other option: a double set of doors. One door was propped open. Inside was one of the brighter rooms he had seen so far. There was a conversation pit to the left and a series of doors to the right. The room was big and had several sitting areas, a bookshelf, and a drinks cabinet.

There were a series of doors on the interior wall. Most had a label of a color. He recognized that one of them was Plum, meaning that the bedrooms on that side of the hall entered directly into the Lounge. He did notice that two sections stuck out weirdly. He opened one of the unlabeled doors to that area and found that it was a half bathroom. That was nice. So, if someone was hanging out in this room, they wouldn’t have to run back to their room or try to find another bathroom. It was clear to him that this area was meant for several people to hang out for a long time.

He heard a small cough and looked over into a nook near the bookshelf. On one of the chairs sat the friendly woman, Renee.

”Oh, sorry to bother you,” Ralph said. He was still a bit nervous and unsure of himself; the woman was sweet. He felt bad for bothering her.

“You’re fine. I’m just waiting for dinner to start.” She stood up.

”Yeah same, I was exploring a bit before. This place is interesting. Seems super old.”

“I saw the paper talking about its history. Really cool that it used to be a monastery.”

Ralph’s stomach twisted. He nodded, feeling awkward. He didn’t know what to talk about with the woman. She had been the one to try her best to get the conversation moving in the limo and on the yacht, but most of the others weren’t super chatty. Even before he had found the photo, things felt tense. Now, he felt like he was waiting for something horrific to happen.

“Well, hopefully, my bathroom buddy is done, and I can do more than use the half baths in here.” Renee wanted to fix her makeup before dinner, so she left her toiletry bag in the now-locked bathroom. An oversight.

”See you at dinner.” Ralph said as Renee went back into her room. He was left alone in the lounge room.
Mandy Mason

Location: Car -> Hermes home
Skills: N/A

Mandy didn't want to get out of the car. But her dad did. She wanted to pet the cat and try to figure out a name for it. But her dad got out of the car. Hermes was going inside his house, if something happened there wouldn't be anyone who could hear him and help. Sure there was the hearing neighbor on the street. So she had to go in. Had to back him up.

She handed the cat to her mom and got out of the car. Her heart was pounding as she followed Hermes into the house. He spoke with a neighbor—a brief exchange, probably not important. The door was open, which wasn't a good sign. Mandy didn't watch horror movies; she didn't find that interesting. At the moment she felt like she was in a horror movie.

She tried to follow Hermes' steps. Knowing he knew where the floorboards creaked. This was his home. He signed for her to stop and be quiet. Something anyone who has spent any time around a Deaf person knows is basically impossible. You don't know how loud your steps are when you can't hear them. You don't know what makes noise and what doesn't. She went for stopping instead of trying to continue to follow in what was probably a frustratingly clumsy way.

Mandy hated feeling like a failure. And she felt that way right now. She was a brilliant vet. Her professors were impressed with her. She could tell from an animal's body language, more than any of her hearing peers, what an animal felt. But she didn't know how loud her breathing was. So she waited and tried to be quiet. She waited for her cousin to come back and tell her everything was okay.

Kathy

When Kathy couldn't sleep she worked. Maybe she was a workaholic, perhaps she just didn't know what else to do. She believed it was the latter. Kathy didn't have a lot in the way of hobbies. At least nothing that was an at-home hobby. If Kathy could avoid being home she did. For the most part, she used her home for cooking and sleeping.

Today there hadn't been much in the way of events but she still had to plan. There were upcoming events that she had to plan for. On one side of her was her overstuffed planner. On the other was a local history book, checked out from the library. She typed on her computer. Trying to ignore the tiredness that was seeping into her and the movement in the corner of her eye. It was the type that would let her sleep. Not yet. She glanced at the clock. It'd be another hour yet before she could even try to sleep. She hated that. A part of her wished that her bed wasn't empty, that he was in it waiting for her. But he had never expressed interest - always treated her like a little sister.

Kathy paused in her typing and cracked her knuckles. She stretched her arms over her head and closed her eyes. Counting down from ten to zero. Tension slowly released from her shoulders. Maybe it was time to head to bed, even if she knew it'd be a while yet before exhaustion took over. She could read for a bit. Kathy saved her progress and turned off the computer then headed to bed.
