Eva was smiling. She squeezed her wife's hand and tried to hide the smile from her. She was watching the action in the field, but that hadn't made what had just happened any less funny.

"Now, which kid is which?" She knew of the kids via some stories, but she had no idea who was who. Let alone other than Danni and Dorian, how they were connected to the family.

Connie rolled her eyes as Barty forcibly moved a couple of students. He was talking with someone Connie didn't recognize, as if he knew them. She squinted, trying to figure out how Barty knew the girl. She certainly didn't go to Strange Academy.

"Frankie, sit here." Connie gestured to a free seat near her. She liked the techie, and he was one of the few that was still at Strange Academy (that wasn't a professor) who remembered Connie from her first year. He was her longest friend.

Ben was not thrilled with being here. He wasn't thrilled with being in the States. However, adoption had brought him to the other side of the world.

"Look, there are some other kids your age. Go sit with them, make some friends. I see someone I recognize." Ben's adoptive father, and blood uncle, Matt Moss, urged him. Then waved at a woman in colored glasses. "Novikova." Matt's voice was loud enough to carry. Ben winced and moved away. Of course, there were people he knew here. It wasn't as easy as just sitting with strangers to make friends. Ben joined the row of students. He had no idea who any of them were. They might be students at Margaret Carter Institute, or some other school that he had never heard of or cared about. There were no Braddock Academy students.

He sat with arms crossed, sunk into the seat. He didn't know who was who or anything. Cheering for a bunch of strangers, even if he would be attending their school in the following month, didn't sound like a good time. The only reason he was here was that Matt had decided he should see what the school taught, hoping it would make Ben less annoyed when he was sent to Margaret Carter Institute, which was closer to his adoptive mom's workplace.

Andy’s heart was racing. The day had already been intense and now they were here in the penultimate round of the contest. Not something she had anticipated happening. She opened and closed her hands, she still wore the gloves, but these were fingerless. Designed originally to allow her to use her vampiric touch, now that wasn’t needed, but the gloves offered her metal studded knuckles for her punches.

Gideon’s shout confused her for a second, an old song from the early 2000s. Her brain then catches up with her and she ducks. She doesn’t know if that is why Gideon was yelling, but it doesn’t matter. Things have gone into full swing of action. She sees Dorian and Percy going for Thelma and is about to follow after them, ready to punch the woman with her electrified fists. But the shield around her doesn’t crack, she shifts gears quickly. There is someone else on the field that is causing confusion with illusions. If she can take him out then that’s one less thing they have to worry about. She moves and punches out at Skylar.

The electricity that she always feels coursing in her leaps from her fist at him. She prepared for retaliation.

Breakfast was set up like a buffet. There was a table with drinks ranging from coffee and hot chocolate to juice and water. There was some champagne for making mimosas if someone wanted it. Juliane was in charge of that and the table of bread. The pastries set out there were all beautiful, with an assortment of jams. There was also fruit available. Gordon ran a portable crepe maker. Each crepe was made to order and perfect. A wide range of ingredients was available for the crepes.

Ralph and Rih entered the ballroom together. Ralph didn’t seem bothered by Rih denying his offered arm. The pair of them went up the stairs in the ballroom and from there back into the Foyer.

Ralph wasn’t 100% sure where Elenore would be, but the last place he had seen her go was back toward her room. The door that led to the family’s rooms had a number code lock. He tried the door anyway. It didn’t open. So, he knocked. He didn’t have to wait long until Elizabeth opened the door. She was dressed in loose-fitting clothing and a sun hat, strangely incongruous with the current weather.

“What?” she asked. Closing the door so that Ralph and Rih couldn’t push past.

"We’re looking for Elenore.”

“She’s busy, if you need something, ask Felix. That’s what he is here for.” She walked away.

Charlotte Waldegrave

Location: School Garden

Charlotte had watched the pair of doomed lovers leave the garden. She could only hope that the young woman would take the hints that Charlotte had thrown at her and leave Nigel. No one deserved such a companion. Charlotte could not force her to see the danger she was in, but maybe with some warning, she could escape him before she was ruined. Charlotte hated that part of society. Hated it with a passion. The touch of a man should not define a woman.

She was lost in her thoughts and did not sense that Ms. Pennyford had arrived. She kept most of the surprise out of her reaction, but it was impossible for all of it to be hidden. "Ah, Ms. Pennyford. I was not aware you were there." She gave a slight curtsy, one of respect, not of titles. "Classes are treating me well. I have some work to do, so I should head to the library soon. I wanted some fresh air before I undertook such endeavors."

“Sorry darling, I have been known to just pop in and out and not be seen. A light foot my mother would often say. I am so happy to hear things are going well. Should you need further opportunities to expand your education, you need only ask.”

"Thank you. I appreciate that,” Charlotte said sincerely. "What sort of educational opportunities do you offer?” Curiosity in her voice this time.

“Well it depends on what you would like. We can invite speakers here to lecture on a wide range of topics. We can set up individual learning sessions with current staff or can see about bringing some outside help if the need arises. You could see about doing more work studies where you go and learn. At the same time, you perform duties, though as progressive as this school is, unfortunately, the outside world still frowns on women performing things outside of domestic leanings. However, if that is something you are interested in we could see about that. There’s a lot to be gained here Ms. Waldegrave, you just need to reach for it.”

Charlotte hummed, then nodded. "I will make some considerations and bring them to you. If they are satisfactory I would appreciate the assistance.” Ms. Pennyford was correct in assessing that Charlotte was in a situation that little could get her out of. If, however, she could make that situation more bearable, there was hope for her future yet. "Thank you again. I shall head to the library now.” She gave another small curtsey of respect.

Ms. Pennyford returned the curtsey in kind and went on her way, spinning her parasol as she did so. She had further work to be done, but she did so enjoy the outdoors.

Charlotte let Ms. Pennyford head off, and then she made her way to the library. She did have work to do.

”I caught fish that became keys. This seems to be made of wood. Delightful of them to be so considerate. This key amused me more than the other. The other looked like an hourglass. Time is not something that bothers me much.” Fin responded to Dysphoria. The strange student Jake seemed to have figured out the task, which was well enough. Fin might try to help him, if it got him a favor. She currently had more debt that she was owed. That itched in a way he couldn’t quite describe to non-fae.

”Hello Nicholas, Barty, Cal.” Fin said, taking space on the free side of Barty. He was about to show his key to the others to see if they were in a room together when a new distraction appeared, Agatha.

With her proclamation came another division of the group gathered. Now they had rooms and covens. Fin looked over to where Cal stood, now alone. They frowned. The twins had disappeared. Finley wondered why, but their attention was pulled by professor Sariel. Interesting. Finley had been put in a group that he didn’t consider himself part of. Yes, the Daoine Sidhe could brew potions, but Finley had never learned the art. Finley had grown up in a situation that had never allowed that sort of education. His skills lay in the illusions and blood magic. They had always been strong in those two areas and potion making was considered a tool for those who needed the crutch. Fin thought it over though, potions were versatile in a way that their own magic was not without drinking blood. Maybe this was okay.

Fin pushed off the wall and started walking toward Professor Sariel Marino. Finley knew Rohan and technically Franklin. Though neither in any meaningful way. Finley was not fond of Rohan as the man carried a sword, it made their teeth ache as just the presence of it. Franklin, Fin knew, was part of the AV club and was what Connie had called a ‘techie’, he had helped set up his phone when Fin had first got one over a year ago. The other name listed, Annika, was not one that Fin knew. But as they had told the exuberant Jake, Fin did not know everyone at the school.

The order was like nails on a chalkboard. The professor was not their Lady. They weren’t not going to go to her, but that did not mean Fin could not be sassy about it. He did a handstand and walked on their hands over to where the Professor stood in the center of the room, tumbling down and rolling into a summersault. It was not as clean as Fin would have liked, but he felt it made a point. They stood up.

”Professor,” Fin said as a way of greeting. ”I am surprised to find myself under your tutelage. I did not think of myself as an artificer. I cannot touch the iron so often used in the art of creation.”

Connie had spotted Franklin and waved, but was walking toward Rohan. There were new people in the room. Students she hadn’t seen around the campus. That annoyed her a little. This was supposed to be the level of high skill. Yes, she had messed up, but she wasn’t perfect. Even though that rankled. As she was about to speak to Rohan, Agatha swept into the room. She resisted rolling her eyes, but listened.

They wouldn’t even have a chance to discover their roommates, that was annoying. Were their roommates not their Coven? That was an interesting approach. It would bleed the groups together in different configurations. She tilted her head and saw that Rohan had a different broach than her. She held up her key in hopes that he would share a room with her. At least then she would have someone she liked as a roommate. Connie was certain that if her and either of the twins ended up in a room together there might be a murder. Not that she disliked them, but living with either of them would be...unpleasant.

Rohan flashed his key, indicating that they were not rooming together. Accepting her fate that she would not either be sharing a room or be in the same coven as Rohan she shrugged and started off. He needed to go to his. Her focus darted around the room and she spotted two of her Coven-mates. Calling them sisters seemed weird, as for what she could tell she was the only female presenting one out of the trio. Odd. The other groups seemed to be four each.

Connie didn’t recognize either of the two Coven-mates. Both were new. She probably didn’t know everyone that attended Strange Academy, but she doubted she wouldn’t have seen them around at least. That meant they were new. Very well. She was used to helping new students get a grasp of the school. Orientation had become an old hat.

First, she approached the one Franklin was chatting to. ”Hello Franklin.” She showed him her key to see if he was in the same room if not the same Coven.

He showed his own key, as Igor came close to Connie and sniffed her, Connie sighed. ”Unfortunate.” She’d figure it out later than. She gave the small creature a little pat on the head.

”And hello to you as well. I am Connie. We are in the same Coven, with Professor Croan.” There was a hint of annoyance in her voice, but it was directed at the professor's name and not Pancho. Considering the disdain that Croan had thrown at Connie earlier it was likely a shared distaste. ”We should head quickly over to him. You do not want him annoyed at you, but that’s nearly impossible to avoid.” She shrugged slightly. ”Meet you there.” She left and headed toward the professor. ”You’re with me.” She waved to the man who was yelling for whoever was in the red group beckoning him to join her.

"Thank you, April. Max helped," she responded. "Uh, fuck Gwen, marry Miles, kill Spidey." She added answering the new round of FMK. Then a curve ball was thrown. Gideon switched games and directly dared her to kiss her. Andy's jaw dropped. Gideon was forward. Her gut reaction was that she didn't want to put Gideon in danger, but then she remembered.

She gave a small nod. She did want to kiss Gideon. Andy wouldn't say that she had the whole time. Previously Andy had been so focused on her relationship with Zari. She had sacrificed so much to be with Zari, but that had been all thrown out the window. At least in exchange Andy could say that she was happy with the new friends she had here.

Andy stood up and moved over to Gideon. "An hour ago I would have said no." She knelt down so their faces were even. "However, I am a lot more free than I was then." She leaned forward pressing her lips against Gideon's and closed her eyes.

Miguel was not in his room. Where he had gone was unclear. His stuff was still there except for his camera and a couple of pieces of equipment that Millicent and Sam had seen him use the night prior.

Smells of food were now coming from the lounge area upstairs. The bedrooms, Azalea, Terracotta, Plum, Lavender, and Evergreen, with direct access to the lounge area, could smell this food the best. Azalea was mysteriously empty. Terracotta had no one in it. Plum had been Renee’s room. Evergreen was Constance’s room, and Lavender was Tony’s.

Ralph didn’t know what to do or say. Rhiannon collapsed to the ground and was going on about what they and Renee had done the night prior. Was Rhiannon the last to see Renee alive? He knelt beside them.

”Hey, Rhiannon,” he said awkwardly. ”Do you...” want to talk about it? Need help? He didn’t know where to even start. What do you do for someone who had just seen the corpse of someone they had just been with? He felt bad, he had been the one to tell them what happened. Could he have been more considerate? He hadn’t known, but that didn’t mean he shouldn’t have been. He wanted to ask them if Renee had been drunk. Could she have gotten confused? Could that have been why she was at the top of the stairs and then she slipped? Tony had been vague.

”Let me help you to your room.” He offered his hands. Ralph was not small. He had grown up on a farm, he had played football, his body showed the signs of that. He wasn’t bulked out, he couldn’t be as a pilot, but he was still muscular. Rhiannon would be secure.

Things started getting more awkward as the group talked about real-life marriage. Andy was considering the possibility of never marrying. April gave a new list for them to decide on. Danni seemed flustered by it. She wondered why. "Why the freak out, Danni? Take some slow, deep breaths." She thinks she remembered someone saying the house was fireproof, so even if Danni went up in flames, the house would be fine.

"If Loki kisses at all like my ex," her eyes darted to Gideon to see if she noticed what had just been said. "I refuse to have anything to do with him, so kill. Mystique seems cool, the few times I met her, so marry." Her heart sped up a few beats as she mentioned before coming to school. Even now, it felt dangerous to talk about. It was out in the open now, but mentioning Genosha seemed...dangerous. "That leaves Venom as fuck, which seems...interesting." She winked at April in silent agreement. Part of her automatically cataloged him as potentially immune to her touch, too. Then she remembered and smiled brightly. She stretched a little and looked over at Dorian to wait for him.

Finley had been surprised by the box. It had played pleasant tones. Her and Dys had been entranced by it, curious when it opened. Reading the letter they made sure they arrived at the designated location on time. Fin arrived only a moment or two before the doors opened and they were permitted into the room with the fish tank.

There was an assortment of people, some that Fin knew, others that they didn’t. Fin currently wore their masculine face, with cotton candy colored hair. Finley felt Dysphoria’s unease spike. They froze examining the room. What was dangerous here? The other students? The professors? The fish tank? There were enough unknowns that Finley couldn’t be sure. Something about this place was wrong, but what?

Fin watched as Barty drew from the tank, and then Connie nearly drowned, and then...suffocated(?) herself. If one of the professors hadn’t intervened Fin would have tried. Their own magic could change shapes, though usually it was only an illusion. The Daoine Sidhe were not usually adept at transformation magic, which may be why they could do it best with themself.

”This place is unnerving Dys. Be ready in case something happens,” Finley said. Who they were talking to was not clear to anyone who didn’t already know Finley. Finley was considering moving forward to the fish tank when someone excitedly introduced themself. Was this person who was setting off Dysphoria’s danger sense? They made no move to attack.

”Ah, hello. I am called Finley. I have not seen you around so I suspect you are correct in your assumption that you are new. Though I doubt I know everyone who roams these halls. Constance would be a better judge if you are new or not.” He points to a young woman with bright red hair.

”Excuse me for a moment, I believe I need to catch a fish.” Finley stepped away from Jake and up to the fish tank. He had seen two attempts at getting a fish. Nicholas’s magic they had smelled in the air just before he appeared at the edge of the room. With a slight shrug Fin reached into the tank and in her hand was a worm for one of the fish to be enticed by.

It took but seconds when a fish fell for the little trap and Finley snatched a fish out of the water. They realized instead of one fish they had two in their hand. Fin looked between the two keys. Fin was almost afraid it would be precious metals coating iron, but there was no pain. This implied to Fin that the key was probably solid gold. Interesting, that seemed strange for the humans to do. The other key caught their attention more. The wings were beautiful and made Fin smile. Almost a private joke. They tossed the golden key back into the water, it turned back into a fish immediately.

Finley stepped away from the tank, heading toward the twins.

“What fantastic technique. Elegant and efficient." Mikkail murmured quietly to Croan, who seemed to have nothing to say.

Connie had been early. Easily an extra thirty minutes over the recommended time. She had been pacing while waiting. This was something she had hoped for for a while now. Connie had been an excellent student. Now she could go into more independent study and she was excited. As she paced she shook her hands out and opened and closed her fists. It was movement you would associate with someone having pins and needles in their hands.

When the door opened and she could enter the room, she did not notice Nicholas. She focused on the fish tank. The flashing colors had caught her attention. Reading the note she considered sticking her hand in and just trying to catch one of the fish. It reminded her of crawdad fishing as a little girl. A pleasant memory, one of the rare ones from before her Father had taken her.

She might have been able to catch one of the fish with her hand, but decided instead to transform. Leaning over the tank Connie let the magics shift her. It happened quickly, but it was the wrong shape. Not her normal bird form she preferred. Instead she turned into a finch. Stupid little birds with dumb mouths. Connie didn’t have time to flap her wings, she was tumbling into the tank. There was a splash and her wings were soaked. Connie was the wrong type of bird to fly with wet wings.

Connie quickly went through the catalog of animals she was capable of transforming into. Her favorite form was the bird, but that was not going to help now. What creature would? Obviously, a fish would be ideal. Connie could only think of those hot summer nights catching crawdads and eating catfish. She imagined the form, the muscles, the bones, and felt her body shift again.

Now as a fish herself she darted around spotting a green colored fish that was near her. Connie snatched it into her mouth. Catfish were adept at leaping from water. She did just that and as she fell to the ground outside the tank her magic flared and she shifted. Though, she hadn’t had the image fully in mind and failed to shift fully. Connie still had gills, and had failed to make her lungs fully human. She gasped, the key falling from her mouth where it had been still. Air. She thought. Curses.

“Seven years produced this? Pathetic.” Professor Croan drawled, a sick amusement in his eyes. Sariel watched the display with a poorly concealed grimace.

“Goodness gracious!” Professor Mikkail exclaimed as Connnie dragged herself out, gills still fluttering. He wove magic in shifting patterns and they smoothed out into skin once more. “Right as rain, Connie! Take a few deep breaths before you get going, just to make sure everything works alright, deary.”

Connie gasped. Oh, blessed air. She nodded. ”Tried to do that much too quickly.” Connie explained. Jumping from water into air was not something she had practiced. She mentally added it to a list of things to practice.

In her human skin with human lungs Connie took a slow breath. She looked at the key that had fallen out of her mouth, Connie picked it up. She stepped away from the tank examining the key curiously.

Max Eisenhardt, Erik Lensherr, Magneto, the Master of Magnetism, Founder of Genosha, sighed as he rose to his feet, his knees creaking from the simple motion. These days he preferred to glide rather than walk, metal woven into the fabric of his clothing serving to support him, relieving the stress of gravity upon his system. He had told himself he would wait for the morning, but his messages had gone unanswered. There had been no response from his wayward son, Maximilian Gray, as to whether his daughter had spoken to him. Granted, he had inquired only ten minutes ago… but Magneto was not a patient man.

Not that he considered himself much of a man, having shed such a human vestige aside long ago.

He paused at the front doorstep of the Kingston-Gray house, eyeing the door knocker with irritation. He hated engaging with that thing. “Maximilian. Open up,” he said promptly, causing the knocker to strike against the door thrice with a wave of his hand. “It is urgent, young man.”

Andy heard the knock as she was passing from one room to another. She also recognized the voice. Quickly she went to the door. ”Hi, I think Max is in the living room.” Andy stumbled over her greeting, realizing she didn't know what to call him, Magneto, Eric, or even dad?

Magneto frowned at her sharply. “Did you speak with him?” he asked immediately, before his expression softened. He had missed her so. “I worry for your safety, my dear.”

“Ah, no. I'm sorry. Things got a little chaotic and James is not available. I know I should still but I was looking for a quiet time when I wouldn't be a bother.” Andy admitted. She stepped aside. “I suppose now works.”

His frown returned. She wanted to wait for when she would not be a bother…? “Andy, with what you told me, this is of the utmost urgency and importance. If I cannot convince you to care for your own wellbeing, then consider this - there are mutant children under this roof, ones who lack your strength and resilience. I do not doubt that you would return from the cold door of death - it is them who I fear would not. Come, let us find Maximilian and bring an end to your suffering.”

Andy froze, she hadn't thought about that. She suddenly felt incredibly guilty for it too. She should have said something before the whole seance thing. Since she hadn’t, now she had to deal with the consequences of that. “You're right.” She gestured in the direction she thought Max had gone to read.

Framed by the archway that lead into the living room, lay Maximilian Gray. His head resting on the armrest of a dark leather couch, his feet propped up atop the opposite arm rest, and a book precariously places on his face appearing to be only a quarter of the way read through. Ghostly Actions at a Distance: A Novice's Guide to Quantum Physics A book by Reed Richards. One arm was still lazily pressed against the corner of the book from where he had been holding it, the other limped off the side of the couch, grazing the rug beneath.

Magneto stared at his chosen son for a moment. Had it been Pietro, he would have been far less kind. What he did now was a mercy. Without even a gesture, pots from the nearby kitchen began to bounce up and down, creating a clatter that he was certain would wake the dead. “Maximilian,” he said firmly. “Wake up. I have need of you.”

Andy couldn’t contain the snort of laughter. The method of waking Max up was too funny. Part of her wanted to admonish Magneto for the action, but she had already laughed. There was no going back now. The rest of her hoped he would never have to wake her up in the same manner. That had to be terrifying to wake to.

Where Max once lay, was now a black hold for a brief moment. Another appeared into the hallway, a book in one hand, magic swirling in the other. He tried to say something akin to “Who goes there? What's happening” but the words were groggy, half asleep. His lips smacking several times before the magic dissipated from his hand and he used it to run the sleep away from his eyes. ”Erik, couldn't you simply…I don’t know, send a text? I've had a very long day and now need to learn Quantum Physics a top it all.”

Magneto’s eyes furrowed. He could have pointed out to Maximilian that he had, indeed, done such a thing. But he was a dramatic man, and thus, required dramatic actions. “Andy is at risk of killing each person in this home if you do not attend to her right now. I assume you have no wish for further blood on your hands - nor do we have the ability to resurrect our own without consequence. Attend to her. Now.

Andy winced. Magneto was right. She had messed up by not saying something sooner. She quickly started filling Max in so he didn’t think she was murderous, on purpose. “I have been sleep walking. I,” She paused and took a breath and swallowed. “I killed someone while I did it. Also, I found out during registration that I am cursed. These things are hopefully connected.” She really hoped so anyway. There was the possibility that the curse was what had happened earlier in the day. Or it might be older than that.

Max snapped the book closed and in the same instant it appeared atop the coffee table in the room next door. He took in a deep breath, made his way over towards the kitchen, poured himself a coffee, and then came right back before holding up a finger telling the pair to wait. After a long drink he finally spoke. ”Of course I will tend to her Erik, not only because you asked but because she's family. Andy, why didn't you come to me with this sooner? I could've helped you out alongside the teachers at Strange Academy right after the exam. But, since we're here now…let me take a look at this myself.” The necklace from before appeared once more around Max's neck. Stepping closer to exam Andy as he spoke both to her and the air around them. ”So you say there's a curse that's been placed on you? Any information on the how or who? Where it may have originated?”

Magneto settled slightly, as Max began to get to work on the matter of Andy’s curse. There was one person in particular who came to mind, someone who he would have been all too happy to pass judgment on once more. She was the reason his people had been denied their homes - again. The reason that so many had fallen, so many lives lost that Max, James, and the other one had had to snatch from the cold embrace of death. “I could wager a guess,” he said somewhat bitterly. “As I imagine you can as well.”

Andy raised an eyebrow at Max. Was he really asking her who was the most likely person to have cursed her? ”Three guess who and the first two don’t count.” She crossed her arms. ”There are like a dozen reasons why I didn’t say anything between finding out I was cursed and now. I was planning on talking to you about the sleep walking. I promised,” she paused and looked at Magneto. She still doesn’t know what to call him. ”That I would. However, between heading off to get registered, Zari breaking up with me, dinner with everyone, the seance and all that happened because that failed, I really didn’t have time to. Then you went off to ‘read’ and I didn’t want to bother you.” She was getting a bit more exasperated as she explained why she hadn’t had a moment to spare. Everything between Zari breaking up with her and dinner was sort of a blur too. Andy looked back to Magneto, ”Zari went home. I didn’t even get a chance to talk to her, she just said bye and left.” She shrugged. Since the two of them had discussed Zari a bit earlier she figured he wouldn’t be all that upset that Zari was gone. Andy took a deep breath. ”If the curse is not from what happened today with Selene, then I think it is from when she turned me into a vampire.”

Max had finally finished assessing the magics surrounding Andy. A tired sigh escaping him once more. ”Well, we'd all be spot on the money for who placed it most likely. It is a Vampiric Curse. Likely one placed by Selene herself when she turned you into a Vampire, actually its probably what turned you. Listen Andy, things are almost always hectic here in this household. I mean you've met my kids, and more importantly Casper. So don't hesitate to talk to me whenever you need something especially if its important. Youre never a bother you hear?” He gave her a stern look before looking towards Erik and then the door. ”You up for a bit of a walk? I don’t want to mess with this curse directly when I know another Sorcerer who can. Brother Voodoo is used to dealing with curses and breaking them. What's more New Orleans is, or was, no stranger to Vampires for a time. Something my colleague also has experience in. So if anyone could help break this curse it would be him.”

“If Selene should ever darken our doorsteps, she will know no end to the pain and agony that I will inflict upon her,” Magneto vowed. It was good that Selene couldn’t die. Death was not a suitable punishment for her.

Andy was half tempted to tell Magneto that Selene was in Max’s possession now. She decided instead to just say, ”Yeah, I’m fine with going for a bit of a walk.” She didn’t want to miss any of the fun planned for the rest of the night, but she also really wanted to get this fixed.

Max quickly shot Ben a text message saying ”Going out for a bit to deal with a curse that popped up. Keep an eye on the kids while in gone. Love you.” Before pocketing his phone. ”Alright then, luckily he both resides, and hangs around, nearby Bourbon Street. Which so happens to be where we live by. So it wont be far though…i should give him a heads up to meet us somewhere.” He grabbed his phone once more, sending a message to Brother Voodoo now. ”Meet us at the Court of Two Sisters. I need your help breaking a curse ASAP.”

Max’s phone buzzed almost immediately, with a red heart emoji from Ben, followed with a be careful.

Only seconds later, another reply came in - this time from Brother Voodoo. How bad? Omw. Usual bullshit?

Andy pulled out her own phone and sent a text to Dorian, ”Going to deal with something. I’ll explain later. With your dad, and mine.” She figured at least one of the others should know she was stepping out so they didn’t panic when they couldn’t find her. She’d explain to Dorian later why, after it was fixed and he wouldn’t have to worry about it.

”Ready when you are.”

Max shot back a response as he made his way out, placing a hat on his head from the hat rack beside the door, an entire outfit following suit. His usual yellow long coat swaying in the breeze as he exited the home. ”A bit higher than the usual bs, but nothing we cant handle.”

Leaving the spacious yard of the Kingston-Gray Estate and making their way down the brick streets of New Orleans, Music blared and the night life had already began to bloom. Somehow livelier than the day time, lights lined the buildings as others had already begun to drink. He led them to a now closed restaurant, one he liked to frequent for breakfast when no one was in the mood for cooking. ”Voodoo should be here any minute. If anyone can help you Andy, its him.” Max said as he gave them both a look of reassurance.

Gotcha. You owe me a stiff drink, Gray, when the night is over.

Magneto refused to sit, hovering a few inches above the ground as he surveyed the restaurant, mentally cataloging every piece of metal within a mile of them. It was an exercise he did to quiet his mind, to reassure himself that he was prepared, no matter what happened. They were dealing with a curse Selene had placed on his child. He wanted to be prepared for anything. “Is this his establishment?” Magneto asked.

Stepping into sight as if he’d been there all along, a tall man dressed in linen, his hair held in locks, greeted them with a nod. As his gaze fell on Andy, his nose wrinkled. “Eww. That curse is rancid, lil miss.”

”You’re telling me,” Andy said, she had somehow kept herself from jumping at Voodoo’s arrival. ”I’d appreciate not having to deal with it anymore.” Andy did not want to go into how much of her life had been upended because of it. ”Max said you’d be able to take care of it.” It wasn’t a question, but there was hope in her voice. Hope that Max was right and that this was the end of it.

Brother Voodoo nodded. “I can. If you’ll step in with me, miss, I’ll get this taken care of. Closed practice - so gramps will have to wait outside. Gray too.”

”He's my dad, not grandfather.” Andy defended, but nodded. She glanced at Max for reassurance, even though he had brought her here, would he object.

Max nodded and motioned for her to follow him in. He trusted Brother Voodoo, and understood that not all of his magicks could be shown to others. It's why he chose this location, away from prying eyes and with a fully stocked kitchen should he need any last minute supplies to help remove the thing. ”You’re in good hands Andy.” He reassured her before using his magic to create a pair of chairs, table, and a metal chess board. ”Might take a while Erik, old magic usually does. So, care for a game or two?”

Andy nodded and straightened her shoulders, lifting her chin, she followed Brother Voodoo. Hopefully, soon she’d be free, she’d be able to hug people, to touch them again. Zari had been the one person who had seemed unaffected by her touch and she was gone. If this didn’t get fixed she’d never touch someone again and that was something she didn’t think she could handle.

Magneto raised an eyebrow. There was no greater way to spend the hours than a game of chess. “We shall see if your skills have improved, then,” he agreed, a jolt of nervousness moving through him as Andy left his sight. He took a seat at the table, and with just the movement of his eyes, he advanced his pawn forward, before settling back and waiting to see how Max responded.

Four games later, Brother Voodoo reemerged with Andy, wiping a bit of what looked like dust off of his shoulders. “Got it out. You’re all good, miss.”

Max stood up from his chair as soon as Andy came into view. Watching as dust blew off of Brother Voodoo. ”See? Nothing you couldn't handle. For your efforts –” He swirled his hand as a bottle of alcohol appeared within his grasp, handing it over to Voodoo. ” The best bottle of Mamajuana you can get. Straight from the Dominican Republic.”

Andy looked over her shoulder at Brother Voodoo, ”Thank you,” she said sincerely. Then she went over to Magneto and hugged him, she let her cheek touch his. Her first hug unafraid of hurting someone in six months.

“It’s my pleasure,” Voodoo told Andy, as he accepted the bottle from Max. He then nodded to everyone, and took a step forward and simply disappeared, as if he’d never been there at all.

Magneto didn’t notice, however. He was too busy embracing his daughter for the first time in too long. He hugged her back tightly. And very softly, he swore a vow in his native German, that he would never allow any harm to come to her again. “You’re safe, now, Andy.” Forever.

Andy didn’t speak German, she didn’t know what he said, but that was okay. After a moment she pulled away from the hug and looked at Max. She was smiling, for now she wasn’t scared. ”I’m ready to go back to your place.” She removed her gloves, and tucked them away. She might not need them anymore, but they could still be useful. ”I’m sure the others are wondering what is going on.” She had promised Dorian she’d explain, but maybe she’d just start with a hug.

Upon returning to the house Andy said goodbye to Magneto and then ran to find the others. Without saying anything she tackled Dorian into a hug. ”Guess what.”

Dorian was shocked to get a hug from Andy, but that didn't stop him from giving one in return. Squeezing her tight as he pulled back slightly with a quizzical look on his face. ”What?”

Andy held up her hand, showing the gloveless hand and wiggling her fingers. ”The whole vampire thing was a curse by my mom and your dad took me to see Brother Voodoo and he got rid of it.”

”Wha? Ah…No fair! Pa never let's me meet Brot'er Voodoo!” Dorian gasped before fully taking in what Andy had said. He pulled back, gripping her arms and looking at her with wide eyed astonishment. ”Wait! You can touch?!” He asked before pulling her in for a tighter hug, likely knocking all the air out of her lungs.

Andy giggled, and nodded her head. ”I can,” she said with what little air was left in her lungs. When he loosened his grip she said, ”You’re my second hug. The first went to my dad.”

Dorian tried not to be offended that he was her second hug. It made sense Erik would be the first…but still. ” ‘ow long do you t'ink before anyone notices you aren't wearin’ your gloves?” He teased. It'd be like a fun sleepover game. See how many hints Andy could drop before someone finally figured it out.

Andy grinned. ”Oh, this will be fun. I want to change clothes though. I’ve been repressed in full length clothing for far too long.”

Max chimed in, a smile on his face at the idea of what he was about to suggest. ”Sounds to me like someone needs a whole new wardrobe.”

Andy wanted to protest. Wanted to say that wasn’t needed. She certainly wasn’t going to get rid of her jacket. A lot of her gear was set up for the powerset she liked that being her lightning. But she also was ready for a new wardrobe. She did want to change things. Not because she was changing who she was, but because everything she owned was barely something she was happy to wear. It had been a point of contention with Dorian, Danni and Sabine. So she wanted to defend her clothing. But Max could give her a whole new wardrobe without compromising her style. She wouldn’t lose herself. She would just be leaving what she didn’t want anymore behind. So she nodded. ”Please, if you don’t mind.”
