— Chapter 00: White Noise —

It may have taken years, but humanity finally found a way to prosper even in the face of the mysterious invaders from beyond our world. A small part of that is thanks to the new generations of soldiers trained at the many Tactical Arts Academies around the world. The greatest of such being the 2nd Tactical Arts Academy: Yamato, built after the first of its kind was destroyed.

It’s thanks to the existence of the Yamato Academy that the city of Neo Kyoto can be one of the safest places for humans to live. And one of the functions that the Academy has to fulfill is maintaining the web of passive defenses that protect the city from danger. One of such defenses is a small net of autonomous sensors that detect uncommon activities in the city’s outskirts, especially the districts that are yet to be reclaimed. And this is exactly where today’s mission is going to focus.

{{Western District | March 23rd, 2021 | 09:35}}

“Today’s mission is going to be a routine task, so I’m not going to overextend myself,” said Lieutenant Mako Isoshima to a group of trainees aboard one of the Academy’s mobile command centers — a modernized version of the V-22 Osprey equipped with jet engines instead of rotors, as well as a series of auxiliary equipment — while they were en route to their destination. “You are going to be replacing the backup batteries of a sensor array in the Western District, an abandoned area comprising most of the former Nishikyou-ku and Ukyou-ku wards. There are twelve stations in need of maintenance; their locations have already been marked on the maps distributed to each of your respective squad’s Linkers. Each of the three squads here will be responsible for four sensors.

Since this is not a combat mission and there are no plans to reclaim this area of the city anytime soon, I suggest that you avoid conflict with the invaders as much as possible but, ultimately, this a decision that you have to do on your own if you face them on the field. You have eight hours to conclude mission, which will begin at 10:00. Lastly, Squad Chaotix has been sent earlier as a recon unit, their report indicate light invader activity in the mission area, as long as you stay in the marker path and you shouldn’t endanger yourselves.

This concludes the mission briefing. If there’s any questions make them now, otherwise, you are authorized to begin,”
she said as a soft shaking indicated their landing at a designated helipad and the cargo door opened, letting the cold, still air of the lifeless city filter into the aircraft.

@datadogie@OliveYou ey, seems like we're stuck together, so any opinion on team names and all that jazz?

And on the topic of teams in general @KoL will we be able to arrange/apply for new teams ICly in the future, or is it set to stone for some academic administrative purpose?

To make it clearer, the team compositions can change if need be (someone dropping the RP, for example) but they'll still end up being decided in the same way the current teams were arranged, which is mostly RNG.
Might wanna put that into the first post of the OOC, @KoL.

It might be better for people to ask before making characters, if they don't want to read the whole thread and see whats needed.

By the way here's a general announcement:

We will not be accepting any more Strikers for the time being until the Cast gets some balance.
@Burger
I think that your character's ok now as well. You can move her to the CS tab.

@Melkor
I think your character is mostly fine, however, we can't accept another Striker right now. The teams are too out of balance. You are still welcome to play but we need either a Gunner or Linker from you.

“Rise and set the sky ablaze!”

Year 2021 of the New Calendar.

The world is finally living an era of relative peace and stability, after a long period of chaos. Society is able to prosper where none could thanks to the introduction of amazing wonders of modern technology that allow life to flourish where none could stand for the longest time.

These achievements were made possible after the creation of the seventy-two academies to educate and train the next generations of the defenders of Earth that fight the ever-present threat of destruction.

Your role as one of the members of one such academies is is prepare yourself for the unavoidable time when you’ll have to scramble into battle and fight, putting your life and limb at risk, to protect those in need.

Something About The Past

Everything changed when humanity learned for the first time that we aren’t alone in the vastness of the cosmos. Whatever it was that was out there, it had only one wish:

“To destroy everything, no matter the costs.”

Or at least, that’s what humanity thought of the invader's wants. After all, all attempts of establishing communications with them ended in tragedy. Even gathering the most basic information is a Herculean effort when their minds are the very definition of the word alien -- perhaps, even strange enough to be called eldritch.

No one knows for sure where the invaders came from; only that, one day, a long, long time ago, they arrived in our world as unexpected passengers of a massive meteor. Catching everyone blindsided, this great calamity would be known as the Second Genesis. It almost led to the extinction of all life in our world, forcing humanity to a critically low point and leading the society that existed before alien arrival to collapse.

It would take an untold amount of time for humanity to learn of ways to fight back against the invaders; ironically, their greatest salvation came from the very heavens the invaders originated from. Radiation left over from Second Genesis has mutated roughly 80% of humanity by now. Although no severe drawbacks have been observed, they have resulted in increased stamina, reflex, and strength to the human body; as well as granting a limited depth of psychic ability. Using this newly found source of power, humanity has begun to push back against the wave of destruction. It took even more time for the population to stabilize and, finally, for a new world to arise from the ashes of the former one. The sacrifices of many have led us to the current era.

But despite humanity’s best efforts, the invaders were never defeated completely. And it looks like they never will be.

And Something About Now

Even though the threat can’t seem to be eradicated, life still goes on.

Today, humanity is able to inhabit most of the territory it owned at its peak before Second Genesis. This was in part to evidence that suggested that this wasn’t the first time our world had been visited by these invaders. Indeed, the meteor that triggered the K-T mass extinction event could very well have been carrying the same beings that plague the world today. How and why the invaders took so long to rise again is a question that science has yet to answer. Nevertheless, such questions have no bearing on the lives of the common people, who do their best to help humanity prosper and find their own happiness in life.

The center of modern humanity's survival are the academies built all around the world to train the next generations to fight the danger of the invaders. Using their enhanced physical capability and psychic nature, these eager youth have been thusly dubbed, Psychers. Each and every one of their academies boasts the best in terms of technology and science to help push back the threat of annihilation. This story will follow the exploits of the students of one such academy. The 2nd Tactical Arts Academy: Yamato, built just right outside of the limits of the reconstructed city of Neo Kyoto. It is the newfound the capital of Japan after Tokyo was turned into an inhospitable mess of alien activity.

Characters

The playable characters will all be trainees at the Academy, which divides its students in three rough groups, or classes, based on each of their combat role specialization. They are:

• Strikers: Close-quarters combat specialists who use blades and other physical weapons. Uses their psychic power to increase their attack power and endurance.

• Gunners: Long-range engagement specialists who uses firearms. Uses their psychic power to increase their movement speed and dexterity.

• Linkers: Support units whose abilities and skills doesn’t match the definition of the other classes. Often use drones to assist their teammates in combat. Uses their psychic power to "link" with their teammates and direct them. They have the largest field of psychic range.

A battle squad is generally assembled with one of each different type of operative, with the Striker and Gunner taking down the enemies in direct combat and their Linker offering support either from a command center, or another safe position.

Each character has access to a certain number of abilities derived from their enhanced physical prowess. Among the general abilities that every agent is meant to have are a passive force field, or aura, that protects you from harm.

Furthermore, each character also has one unique ability, meant to compliment their playstyle, named Psychic Drive with initial access to up to three different techniques. More may be learned through the course of the RP if certain circumstances that allow so are met.

Rules

No Godmodding, Power Gaming, Metagaming, Mary Sues/Gary Stus, and or similar types of characters/behavior.

Each player is allowed one character for the time being. This number may be raised in the future, however, no one can have two characters be of the same class (Striker, Gunner, or Linker).

No player will be awarded special roles (teachers, antagonists, etc.) at the beginning. If you have any good ideas and prove yourself to be capable of doing taking such a responsibility, we may change our mind… later.

There will be no specific posting order. However, wait at least two turns before posting again to let others have fun as well.

Discussion in the OOC is nice, but if there is prolonged heated argument, take it in the PMs. Otherwise, the GMs will solve the problem. Criticism is ok but, if you want to come here to argue, please refrain from doing so. This will result in a quick and swift ban.

RPers who "sporadically" lose interest or leave without saying anything are discouraged. I strongly suggest you either inform me or the Co-GMs of your leave of absence. If it’s an emergency, then at least tell us it is.

Please post your Character Sheets onto the OOC for evaluation. After being accepted, you may then post them onto the Character Tab.

Follow the Guild's rules for content/language. Take any improper material to PMs, please.

Keep your IC posts at around a length of one or two paragraphs for each character in your post. Under certain circumstances this number might fluctuate up or down, but try to keep with it as much as possible.

We take suggestions from the players into consideration with a great deal of importance. However, we are the final arbiters of any issue. Do not question our final verdict and don't test our patience.

If you have any problems, questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to let the GMs know.

Have fun.

Character Sheet Template

• Name: Self-Explanatory
• Age: For Trainees, it's between 15 and 19 years old
• Gender: Male or female. (Please, don't answer anything other this)
• Class: Gunner, Striker, or Linker
• Nationality: Pick any you wish. For the sake of simplicity, consider that most of the current nations still exist in some shape or form after the Collapse.
• Appearance: Anime/cartoon images and or text descriptions only, please. If it's not evident in an image you may be using, including at least the character's height in a separate field is recommended.
• Bio: A brief description of your character's backstory and personality. In other words, who they are as a person and why they are so. At least two paragraphs in length are more or less enough, just try to not go too overboard on this one, ok?
• Armament: Your weapon(s) of choice. If your character doesn't use any, include a description of their combat style or anything else similar. An armament may have a few special characteristics or abilities, as long as they are reasonable. There are two categories of damage that any armament can deal: Energy (lasers, beam swords, etc.) and Physical (bullets, arrows, vibroblades, etc.).
• Psychic Drive: Your character's unique ability, try to not have it be too overpowered.
• Extra: Anything else not mentioned above. (Bits of trivia, theme songs, likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) Optional, you can ignore this if you have nothing else to add.
• Sample Post: Write a short post (around 2 paragraphs) describing an important moment of your character's life, a bit of their daily life, etc. This will be the most important part of your CS, so try to make your writing skills and interest in the story as evident as possible to impress us, ok?

Great to see there's plenty of interest in this. Just a question; when do you think the IC will be started?

Maybe tomorrow if everything goes alright. If not, it'll be sometime this week.
@KoL@TheWindel

I was thinking of updating my CS with how far each sized orb can toss someone, as I feel like this is information that needs to stay consistent.

  • A small orb, being the size a lemon, can toss someone Akari's weight around ten/fifteen feet.
  • A medium-sized orb, being the size of a grapefruit, would be able to launch someone her weight about thirty feet.
  • A large orb, which is the size of a bowling ball, would be capable of launching someone her weight around fifty/sixty feet.
  • A massive orb (something Akari would only be able to create once before completely exhausting herself) the size of a beach ball, would be able to launch someone in a full suit of light-medium weight armor thirty feet.

Does this sound alright?

I think this definition is ok. But, before you change anything wait for @TheWindel's opinion as well.
@KoL Worth noting because I often use a -booru for picture hunting; they don't allow you to link directly to their images. You can see it through your link because of some weird shenanigans, but all the rest of us get is a 403 Error. You'd have to copy them to a more open-hosting image site like imgur to do so.

That aside, thanks for the acceptance!

Indeed, that was momentary slip. I'll update that links later.

Anyway, you're welcome.
