Alex slowly followed Okami to the tavern. Though the boy looked to be in a hurry. Nimueh, who sniffed Lupa, did sort of want to race him. Alex could tell that much. She looked anxious enough. But, at the same time, she looked incredibly tired. With her tail low and her slow walk. In fact, after a few minutes, she jumped up on Alex’s shoulders. In the meantime, her master was pondering the concept of a unison form. So far he only managed one form at a time. But his imagination was running amok. Making him wonder how it would look if he had both the material and the fusion form. It was certainly a skill he would have to ask about. But as they entered the Tavern, Okami practically vanished to the back. Only to start serving meals and setting their table.

The sight of serving brought a smile on his face. While he and Okami were probably going to do a very different kind of serving, it still felt good to have a certain kinship with someone. Though, as he saw Okami and Lupa serving, and Samuel cradling his bird, he couldn’t help but wonder why this band would want to scale the tower in the first place. Leave alone being capable of it. Even with something as powerful sounding as the unison form, Okami only reached the 35th place. For Alex, that would have been painfully low. Voicing his concerns, he turned to the priest and asked: “Tell me, Samuel, why do you actually want to scale that tower?” It was a genuine question.

In the meantime, Nimueh had jumped on the table and laid down on her own, fluffy tail. Using it as a very soft pillow. Another sight that made Alex smile, as he himself used Nimueh’s soft tail as a pillow before too.

@Duoya, @cloudystar
Alex merely smiled at the old man. He seemed genuine, which certainly made Alex feel better about himself. Though, he did feel a pang of guilt. This man offered him a place in among a group of friends, and he nearly rejected it in pursuit of power. Well, he couldn’t claim he didn’t want power. For days now Nimueh and him had been training for the test and they still couldn’t reach the top ten. He had to do better. Before he could answer Samuel, the boy Okami spoke.

Another who genuinely cared? Still, he wondered what everyone’s story was. Were they pursuing power as well? Or other things? Maybe wealth. Or just friendship? That used to be quite a distant thought. In his past few years, he severed nearly all ties with his old friends. Was friendship just friendship? Or could it be more useful? He had to stop thinking in such materialistic terms. But still, the whole reason he wants to explore the tower was to be strong to protect Alexis. He hoped the girl was doing OK without him. Not that she really needed him in the past.

“We’ll meet him again, I’m afraid.” Alex answered Samuel’s question, as he strolled with Okami. “He’s powerful, no doubt. But ruthless and even dangerous. I mean, why would you even stand on your own spirits!? Either way, I’m guessing we better prepare ourselves for the inevitable. That guy will see any group a threat to himself. We’ll be facing him sooner rather than later.” His voice was obviously hostile.

In the meantime, Nimueh was running after Lupa and trying to sniff her. She seemed, again, strangely intrigued by other spirits. But time would make out if she found the wolf any more interesting than she found Gabriel.

I'll post tomorrow! Promise!
@Rune_Alchemist I'm kinda waiting on Duoya to see what Samuel's gonna do and stuff and join him (as he's the only one that actually talked to my char so far and sorta teamed up with him)

Location: Dorm room → FearFest bus
Interacting: Nobody

One would expect that Lucas was happy like a puppy on a day like FearFest. Obviously, he was going to pull pranks. It was completely expected from him. In fact, for entire past days now Lucas had been nothing but happy. Which was very odd because his bullying dropped a little. Suddenly his standard victims like Eliana and Milo were left alone. Though the occasional student was thrown around once or twice. Just to make a point. He still had a status to maintain. But still, both teachers and students certainly would have noticed an odd change in Lucas. But today was different. Today he boarded the bus looking like a dog ready to bite. The hellfire in his eyes was back. So intense that it nearly sparked out of his eyes, spelling out doom to everyone. It was evident that he was looking for problems. His mind begging every passing person to give him an excuse. Just to point or even look wrong. Whatever happened, it took the wrong day.

2 hours earlier…
Lucas couldn’t be happier. Things were lining up again. It was his first year as a Darksider and he spent his last few day planning it all out. Observing victims, setting up traps, gathering materials. All this while he was still rigorously training for the Tournament. Though, nobody would say he did anything for it. On his best days he mostly just fluttered with his tired, hollow eyes. Though he fell asleep far more often. Rarely was he seen at the training room at day and his retrieved dummy was left to gather dust in his room. If anything, those who didn’t know him would say he either gave up or couldn’t care for the tournament.

But right now, for two days, FearFest was more important. As Lucas made his bags his gaze fell upon the journal. Could he leave it unguarded for several days? No. Too dangerous. Even when all the Mayweathers were coming with them, he shouldn’t leave such a valuable asset just in the hands of the faculty. Dropping down on the bed next to it, Lucas felt a certain itch to open it once more. Maybe he could discover some feisty secrets about Eliana like he did last time? Secrets he could use against her. Well, he would keep it light hearted. A silent promise to Mitch. But she was Mayweather after all. Luckily she hadn’t picked a side really, in the conflict. A wise choice, for Lucas planned to be utterly merciless to a handful of persons. The cold war they were fighting was about to heat up.

To miss someone. Lucas fell silent. His almost trademarked grin fell off his face. Like a porcelain mask, it shattered into a thousand pieces as he felt his heart shrink. He knew the pain too well. But most of all he knew what being all alone felt like. Loneliness was such a poisonous feeling. It creeps in your bones, veins and eventually in your heart. You stare at the sky and the ground. Dreading or hoping, or maybe a little bit of both, that someone would pick you up. Some fall in the chasm. They wallow in their solitude. Built walls high up to shield themselves. It all starts so simply: by missing someone. But it can end in closing yourself off to the world.

At the end, Lucas slammed the journal close. It was becoming too much. Simple, short sentences were becoming his undoing. How could it? That he could see himself in her now? A month ago they were arch enemies. Now, now he understood her. The diary, the one thing he wanted to use as a weapon against her, had turn itself against him. Her words somehow made him understand her life and her actions. Even more, it summoned up memories he repressed for over 2 years now. He was visibly shaking but kept his eyes closed. His mind forced him to relive that one day as the same sentences echoed through his skull: ‘Love is for fools. Love is stupid.’ Someone as old as him should call it childish, teenage behavior. But he couldn’t. Instead, his head started torturing him again like it did so long ago. The pain from back then rippled over him, causing to shake.

But then it stopped. His body seized trembling. He felt calm. When he opened his eyes he was floating in space. The dark shroud was all around him, speckled with silver. But in front of him burned a sphere. The sun. Not the tiny circle one could see from Earth but a massive globe taking up Lucas’ entire vision. The black and yellow spots danced over the surface as arcs formed hundreds of kilometers over its surface. Lucas knew that, under normal circumstances, he should have been blind. In fact, he shouldn’t even be alive. The sheer heat and radiation that the sun so willingly burned should have vaporized him in an instance. But it didn’t. He didn’t feel anything but a soft warmth embracing him. His mind was, for the first time in a long time, truly serene. Looking down at the book, he noticed how he loosened his grip subconsciously. He was as much releasing it as it was releasing him. For with every second, the torturous pain that flowed through him ebbed away. As the journal moved away from him, millimeter by millimeter, he could sense the thoughts get pushed back. His memories were being oppressed once more. They vanished from his conscious mind, driven towards his subconscious and beyond.

He was forgetting it. The journal started burning on the edges. The white paper slowly turning into black ash. Lucas’ mind went from calm and serene to frantic, grabbing the journal and pulling it close again. The comfortable warmth turned to painful heat. As quickly as it all happened, it vanished again. When he opened his eyes. He was sitting on his bed again, strapping the journal to his chest. For a second he thought he daydreamed it all. A true mark of getting more sleep. But when he examined the journal, its edges were still black and scorched.

It returned to the fake ceiling. Where it would remain for a long time. When the ceiling tile was put in place, Lucas collapsed onto his bed. His mind repressed the memories again but it only made room to think about Eliana. Or, more specifically, his own kinship with her. Hurt and harmed by those they loved. Abandoned and left alone. He was lucky. If not for a handful of person, he’d be roaming the dark still. Lashing out at everything and everyone. The realization came with a newfound emotion. Compassion.

Surrendering to his wandering thoughts he just kicked back and opened his laptop. A few days ago the new battery finally arrived so he was eager to get back to the online land of the living. Of course, his phone had been a substitute but it could never entirely replace his trusted vault of knowledge. His bags were nearly finished, so he reckoned he could stroll through the internet a bit…
Disgust. That was the only thing Alex ended up feeling for the blonde boy. Utter and pure disgust. The lively fire in his eyes was entirely replaced with a frozen cold glare. His face visibly soured over. “You’re asking me… to see the one creature that helped me the most in my life… as a tool?” he asked, not so much as to get an answer, but rather a setup to get his point. Samuel told him to play nice. But Alex couldn’t. Turning to the priest he whispered: “There are two kinds of evil. Those who act evil and those who close their eyes to it.” With that statement, he made sure Samuel was brought to speed on Alex’s intentions. The Duquois boy had basically already declared war on everyone who wouldn’t join them.

“I have a statement for you.” Alex moved closer to the blonde boy. Nimueh, sharing in Alex’s emotional state through a basic form of telepathy moved alongside her summoner. His eyes hadn’t changed from the cold glare yet. When he was only a few meters away from Francis he tapped with his fingers twice on his own shoulder. Nimueh, dutifully jumped on his shoulder. Maybe it was because she’s a spirit or her innate telekinesis allowed her to be weightless. Her long tail rested on Alex’s other shoulder. To Francis, this was meant as a clear signal. ‘I support my spirit’.

As a final act, he moved near Okami, Lena and Samuel. Standing with them. They weren’t the best of the bunch in terms of power. But he was confident that there was potential in them. Either way, they were better than any spirit abuser. He once more leaned in to Samuel to whisper: “I’m sorry about that.” But he never took his eyes off Francis. Alex was ready to fuse with Nimueh or use her material form. Should it come to that.

Sanguine

Sanguine, still dressed in his casual wear was walking through the hallways of the base when he was called to the Hanger control center. Just like everyone, he walked with a certain haste. But unlike the mere minions of Talon, Lee walked with the pace and composure of someone focused on a far greater task than reporting to a certain officer. He was on his phone, as per usual. Calling one general or another admiral. The phone, however, was redirected over several lines. If anyone tried to track it, they’d almost literally travel the globe before finding his location. “Yes, general. I will deliver the prototype next week for the presentation. I can assure you, you will be impressed.” The other end muttered a few words, incomprehensible to everyone around him. “Thank you, general. Do give best to Melanie and the kids.” With a friendly goodbye, he ended the phone call with a sigh. His front could be tiresome from time to time. But that’s what is required of him.

Talon was the one place that forsook all forms of morality. It offered the best pure and utter freedom. Both financially and ethically. But they only accepted perfection. Sadly, that meant taking in less… savory characters. One of them Sanguine noticed as he arrived. Viper. The glorified lab rat still smelled of the pungent fluids of a deadman. Well, Lee at least hoped the poor subject was dead. He was not entirely against the use of prisoners as test subjects. Mice, while excellent subjects themselves, weren’t 100% human. Thus results could still vary. Still, Sanguine wished that the chemist would at least have changed his clothes before entering the room. Silently Sanguine nodded his supervisor, Reaper and took a seat. But when Lee finally stood still, the smell was absolutely abhorrent. So bad even, that he could not help but say: “I guess hygiene is straight out of the window these days.” A not so subtle jab at Viper.
It was hard to miss the boasting man as Alex exited the portal. His words were ill chosen though, for Alex. Being self-assured was one thing. But arrogant won’t win you much. Or at least, so Alex assumed. Still, there was something peculiar about the man. Maybe it was the fact that he dared boast like that? Or was it the fact that he came out on top? Success did odd things to people. Still, Alex felt strangely drawn towards the stage. He ranked in the top half of those who got a license. But to him, the rank of 15 was too low.

Learning from the great themselves could be a good way to pull himself up in the ranks. He wasn’t planning on sitting down and doing nothing. Nimueh seemed to agree, to a level. As she nudged him to move even closer to the podium. He did cast a quick glance back. At the elf and Samuel. The priest was kind enough to offer him a spot among his companions. But when he saw who they were… well there weren’t best. And Alex needed the best. “Sure. I’ll join you.”

“But I won’t be a meat shield.” The girl did make a point there. He had skills. So he was worth something. Yet walking the tower alone wasn’t an option either. Greatness was achieved in the group. Was this guy capable of achieving the greatness Alex wanted to support? Maybe. Another quick glance back at the priest’s friends told him that they wouldn’t. They were nice people, no doubt. If he met them in the Tower, he wouldn’t bear them ill will. "I'll be one of your companions. If you'll have me. But don't expect me to be a puppet." There was a fire in his eyes. He was as much joining the man as he was standing up to him. Maybe that's what he needs? Someone who'd dare raise a hand against him while at the same time being capable to keep it down. So many great leaders had strong minded advisors. Who weren't afraid to back away from a fight.
