As soon as Soma reverted to civilian form, so did Tama, her wings closing around her body and fusing into a crystal structure which faded. Listening to the other girl's explanation for her in-between form, the bluenette gave her an apologetic look. "Well, normally it wouldn't be too much of a problem," she explained. "Even small amounts of magic use mean we barely register on people's radar, but in a public place like a school, there's going to be an apparent ghost sighting sooner or later. Not that you're the one to blame for what happened just now."

She shifted her gaze down the hallway, towards the classroom. That eruption of hate had died down, but Touka's venomous glare remained fresh in Tama's mind. Guilt weighed on her more heavily than any stone armour. Soma wasn't to blame for the incident, but were the dark girls either, for having gone that way? Was Ami? Was Touka? Whatever it was that had happened to the latter... All Tama knew was that it must have been awful beyond imagining. And in that time of need, she'd failed yet another friend.

Would the right thing to do have been to follow her into the darkness?

Tama rested her fingers on her woven bracelet, once colourful, now faded and threadbare. No, following her, Ayumu, or anyone else who went dark would have meant abandoning others. Falling in with crowds of bullies was something she'd sworn never to do again. Yet did this path cause any less harm?

Hiding her troubled thoughts behind a mask of composure, she turned back to Soma. "Here," she said, holding out the bento. "Feel free to have some of my lunch." As Soma vented stress of her own, Tama gave a solemn nod. "Yeah, this place seems to have been bad juju central for quite a while, though I've never known things sink to this kind of low. All we can do is keep looking into it."

Right on cue, the unusual aura that had been spreading through the area drew closer. One of the presences from three days ago, yet it didn't feel negative or threatening like the other had, more like an air of righteous strength. Maybe this was someone who could help...

Sensing a swell of the same tainted energy from a moment ago like smoke billowing from fire, Tama winced. "Crisis not so averted."

@Gisk Looks good to me! Feel free to put her into the Characters section once you get Spice's approval. The power level seems fine, magical girls in this are meant to start out reasonably low level and gradually get stronger, so Tsutomi could make fairly small, simple devices at first, and learn to create more complex ones over the course of the RP.

As for pictures, how about something steampunk styled, like one of these?

Mana Crystal: A gold-framed scarlet gem pendant. When she transforms, the necklace chain becomes a red choker resembling a cat collar.
Virtue: Luck. Some other magical girls may call this a false virtue, random chance and nothing more. Kichi, however, seeks to bring good fortune to those around her, tilting the odds in their favour.
Magic: Kichi's magic is based on the Maneki-Neko, or "lucky cat".

• Beckon: With a wave of her hand, Kichi draws positive energy towards herself and/or her allies, surrounding them with a golden aura. While this is in effect, their attacks have increased chance of hitting, difficult or risky moves are more likely to succeed, and they may figure out enemy weaknesses more easily. Kichi can make the effect last for up to thirty seconds at a time, although the longer she does so, the more tiring it is for her.
• Feline Grace: Between the cat tail she has while transformed and the effect of her magic on her physical flexibility, Kichi has increased balance, agility and reflexes.
• Cat Scratch: Kichi can make claws of magical energy grow from her fingertips. Around six inches in length, like small daggers, the claws make her a competent close-range fighter.

History: Born into a wealthy family, Kichi once lived a life of luxury. Sadly, such blessings ran out when her parents' business went bust. The family had to make more and more cutbacks, moving to a smaller home, reining in their food budget, until they had almost nothing.

Some would say that as the situation worsened, Kichi fell in with the wrong crowd. The way she sees it, the people she drifted towards were simply dealing with unfortunate situations just like she was. Whether she met the fellow teens in soup kitchens, or whether they were students told by teachers and parents they'd amount to nothing, she understood bad luck. She understood why some acted out or resorted to desperate measures. In time, she found herself helping with said desperate measures against her moral judgement, as in shoplifting.

It wasn't long until she and a small group of friends were caught. After getting in trouble with the police and landing her already struggling family with a fine, Kichi couldn't believe she'd sunk so low. That night, as she curled up in her room consumed with guilt at her actions and anger at how life stuck so many people in a rut, an odd but seemingly friendly creature approached her. A Keeper.

Even more surprising was the chance the being offered her. She'd helped someone steal, yet the Keeper saw enough virtue in her to make her into a magical girl? Desperate for the chance to make a true difference to those who suffered, she accepted right away.

Her goal is to refine her abilities so that she can bring good fortune to others, share her luck which has taken a turn for the better. Or so she thinks.

Mana Crystal: A citrine-like star charm on a thin gold chain bracelet. When she's in magical girl form, the chain consists of linked gold stars, and a faint light seems to flicker inside the gem.
Virtue: Hope. To Aki, this is not blind optimism or passively waiting for everything to turn out alright. It's knowing that even when things look bleak, it's worth supporting others and trying one's best for that chance of a positive outcome.
Magic: Lights in darkness, whether literal or metaphorical, are a core theme of Aki's abilities.

• Light the Way: A tiny orb of light appears in front of Aki, guiding her to a magical being (a Keeper, a Vice, or a magical girl) she wants to find who's out of normal range of detection.
• Illumination: The star shapes on her staff, the Celestial Beacon, glow brilliant white and deal damage to beings of the dark on contact. She can also use a ranged version of this, sending a flurry of glittering stars at an enemy, although the effect is weaker. Either way, the attack takes around three seconds to charge, leaving her vulnerable for that time.
• Glimmer of Hope: If an ally is particularly exhausted or demoralised, a touch from her hand or the Celestial Beacon will cast a white glow over them for a second, restoring some of their strength and/or will to fight.

History: Up until recently, Aki lived an unremarkable but fairly happy life. With a kindly housewife mother, a hardworking office employee father, and a sometimes annoying but fun-to-be-with younger brother, she was glad to grow up in such a close-knit family. Such happiness, however, was threatened when her dad fell sick.

No matter how many times he ended up in hospital, no doctor could diagnose him. All the while, his mysterious condition grew worse. Aki's mother had to get a job, working overtime to help with the medical fees, while doing her best to make time for her children. Aki herself put her all into supporting the family in any way she could, keeping them as positive as possible in this dark time. She cared tirelessly for her dad. She became a rock of reassurance to her mom and brother. As each day went by, though, the chances of recovery grew slimmer and slimmer.

Her dad's illness reached a point that he relied on machines to stay alive. Seeing him near-unconscious in a hospital bed, tubes sticking out from under bandages, was almost too much for Aki to bear. Even if the worst happened, she'd still get her family through it, but there had to be something someone could do for him...

It turned out there was, and that person was Aki herself. The catlike creature who appeared to her told her the cause of her father's sickness - a manifestation of negativity draining his health. And if she became a magical girl, she could fight it. She took up the offer without hesitation, using her newfound abilities to dispel the being of darkness.

Her father gradually recovered, and everything seemed to be back to normal. Hope, however, brings fear and uncertainty, and one source of stress was replaced with another. Aki's frequent absences, lack of sleep, and more withdrawn demeanour didn't unnoticed. Between this and the increased activity of the monsters, the Vices, Aki learned the painful lesson that not even magic can fix everything. Still, even a small difference is one worth making. And if one seemingly bleak situation turned around, surely others can.

"No, it's ok," Fuyuko insisted. "You're not the one who needs to apologise." It was clear from the awkward pause that she'd been the one to make Sophia uncomfortable, not the other way round. Concern had most likely come across as condescension. Between that, having mistaken her for a shade, and the incident with the watcher, Fuyuko wouldn't have blamed Sophia if she'd wanted to go her separate way. It came as a pleasant - if undeserved seeming - surprise when the other magical girl expressed gladness to have met her and Noriko.

Fuyuko relaxed a little, only for her expression to darken with worry again at the mention of another magical girl. A new one, viewed by her peers as potential competition nonetheless.

"A newcomer?" Her gaze drifted to the city, where conflict stirred beneath the facade of evening calm, then back to Sophia. "But she probably won't even know what the Hex Night is, let alone be participating." Fuyuko barely spoke above a whisper, in case anyone overheard. She could only hope the murmured conversation didn't draw suspicion in itself.

"Yeesh, talk about a baptism by fire," Noriko commented. "Let's hope at least somebody's willing to show her the ropes, I mean there are plenty of us who aren't taking part."

Although the words brought some reassurance, Fuyuko tensed. Would they also bring awkward questions about who was and wasn't competing? "Yeah," she replied, then addressed Sophia again. "This girl... How's she doing?"

That surge of malice had diminished, and some of the girls started to leave the scene, one taking to the skies with another through the window. Even so, the green-haired student's glare served as a reminder that this group wasn't to be messed with, but Allegra stepped forward, meeting that knife-sharp gaze. She wouldn't be deterred as easily as the grouchy dark girl wanted.

"Answers! It-It's answers I want!" she demanded, hoping nobody saw through her defiant facade to how unnerved she was. "First of all, is anyone hurt? Secondly, what was that even about? And last of all..." She scanned the room. "What's going on with you? I mean, why are so many of you like this?"

Although less intense, corruption permeated the classroom like acrid fumes as it seeped from some of the occupants, in particular the one she now confronted. It was as if a black hole of negativity had devoured all light this student may have once had within her. How did anyone fall this far, Allegra wondered, let alone a magical girl?

Phantasmagoria leaned against the wall, lips twitching upwards in a mix of contempt and amusement. "Oh please, you sound like that little flying gnat. Except your buzzing's even louder," she sneered. "And that awful din you make must have messed up your hearing, because I gave you the answer to that last one, right after I saved you from ending up as ground chuck all over the streets. If you can't brighten the darkness, you might as well embrace it. Of course, we all have our reasons, but that's what it boils down to."

Her eyes shifted to Touka, who sat glowering at the noisy nuisance. "Let's go easy on this poor sap, after all she kindly used herself as Nightmare bait so Jin and I could get extra helpings of that gourmet meal."

Who knew, after such a rude awakening, this newbie might even change her tune both literally and figuratively before long. Plus, it would be a bad idea to piss off Aegis, even worse than for a light girl to piss off Touka, which was saying something. Phantasmagoria could only hope for Team Knightfall that their shopping spree would go as planned.
