The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

Bio
A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.
I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.
"What...?" Tama sat up, her chest no longer feeling like glass shards scraped together inside it when she breathed or moved. So Miss Tamashii, the teacher in Touka's class, had been some kind of magical entity the whole time, and somehow hidden the fact up until now. Tama stared from the teacher to the other girls, all returned to civilian form and restored to full health. "Oh thank goodness." Despite the shock, she gave a huge sigh of relief. She stood, flexing her left arm, the bones now in place and fully healed. Her skin bore no gouges, not so much as a scratch.
"A day with no surprises would be surprising in itself," she remarked as she followed the teacher, eyeing her with mixed awe and caution. Miss Tamashii had saved them, but who was she, exactly? And what kind of being was formidable enough to seal away magic? To confirm this, Tama tried to transform. Nothing happened. While grateful that the teacher had ended the fight that way, she couldn't deny being more than a little unsettled.
If not for the fact that Ami and Tsuruga had nearly killed the light group just now, Tama would have asked if they'd known about this. As it turned out, she didn't have to. One look at Ami's face gave her the answer. "Miss Tamashii," she said, bowing as she caught up with the woman she'd seen countless times, but had known nothing about. "Thank you for stepping in. We had no idea, though... Please, could you tell us more?"
As soon as she found she could move without the sensation of having been hit and reversed over by a truck, Honoka sprang up. Her eyes, now their usual blue instead of red, were wide as they could be. At the sight of her unharmed comrades, a grin spread across her face, a joyous laugh bubbling out of her. "You're all ok! Thank you so much Miss Tamashii, thank you thank you thank you!!!"
A whirl of mixed feelings coursed through her. Miss Tamashii was like them? No, not like them. Powerful enough to fix all damage as if the fight had never happened, and to take their own magic. Honoka couldn't say she was comfortable being helpless, but reminded herself the two dark girls were no longer a threat, with their powers gone too. Ignoring Ami and Tsuruga, she sped after Miss Tamashii with an endless torrent of questions. "Wow, are you a magical girl too? Or some kind of goddess? Why didn't we sense anything? How long have you known about us? What's even going on in this city?"
Being a magical girl had brought bombshell after bombshell. First the mutant Nightmares. Then the sheer number of dark girls, in Miso High no less. Now this. A positive surprise for once, but what would it be next?
Ok everyone, we're FINALLY on Day 5! Let's finish what's still left to do in Mesalon, and then when everyone wants, we can head to Vareena. Don't worry, I'll make sure it doesn't take another year OOC to get to the next day. We could do some short timeskips along Route 2 when people head off, depending what everyone wants to do on the way.
If anyone has any questions about Route 2, Vareena Forest or Vareena Town, ask away!
Watching the policewoman leave, Amber could only hope the investigation would yield results. "Yeah, let's hope for the best," she replied to Aedre. "If there's a good chance this is a Pokemon, they'll want to give this their all." If Ty was right about the low crime rate around here, the police wouldn't be swamped with cases, but still, this could be connected to a group that evaded the authorities.
Tacita hopped onto Aedre's shoulder, nuzzling her as if to say it wasn't her fault, then flitted back to her trainer, tucking herself into one of Amber's spacious trouser pockets. Amber petted the little bird, then looked back at Aedre.
"Well, I'd better inform the gym leaders," she announced. "Looking into things like this is part of their duty here. See you everyone, and let's get a good night's sleep." She shivered as she headed towards the gym, partly from the evening chill creeping through the air, partly from the thought of a theft happening in such a quiet little town. For her own protection, she brought out Kyra, who trotted along at her feet. While the puppy brought comfort, something else nagged at Amber's mind - the message she'd have to reply to. If this kind of thing kept happening, how on earth was she supposed to explain it?
At her hurried pace, it didn't take long to reach the gym. Once she'd relayed the story to Lan and Rachel, she took a detour. There was one more person to speak to - assuming said person was still here, and actually wanted to speak.
Footsteps clacked, and the figure Amber was looking for appeared from around a corner, all professional poise. Sharp eyes, as if also searching, met hers.
"There you are." Vivianne spoke as she might to a work colleague. "I have to say, I'm afraid I can't stay much longer. So... I was just about to head out and find you. To let you know."
That hint of warmth the cool tone gave way to stirred mixed feelings through Amber, bittersweet memories from long ago. "It's ok. I understand," she replied, feet curling inwards. "It was... nice while it lasted." She cringed at the unintentional double meaning.
The other researcher nodded, her face an impassive mask. Several seconds of silence passed by before she gave her simple answer. "It was." As she moved towards the door, she turned her head. For a moment, a trace of the sparkle Amber knew returned to Vivianne's eyes. "Well... I wish you luck." She lingered by the exit, then turned and strode out, her pace brisk as if to put the past behind her for good.
Amber found it difficult to speak through the lump forming in her throat. "Thanks." As she stood staring at the door, she felt something warm and fluffy rub around her ankles, followed by the sharp scratch of stones. She winced, but smiled anyway as she crouched to pet Kyra.
"Meeting her here... That was certainly unexpected," she murmured. "Like a lot of things."
It was with heavier steps that she headed back to the Pokemon centre, towards the room she'd booked, where she could reply to the message and settle into bed. What a day. At least it was near its end, a new one about to start... although who knew what that would bring?
...
Mesalon Pokecentre
Morning sunlight streamed through the cafeteria window, as if it promised better things. If only she could do the same, Amber thought as she hunched over her laptop, answering the endless questions in Coral's replies.
It's all fine now, she typed. Mesalon's pretty peaceful, please tell Mom and Dad they don't have to worry. For obvious reasons, she decided not to mention what had happened to Aedre, or the attack by the frenzied bats. To further lighten the mood, she attached some photos of her Pokemon. Imagining her sister's face upon seeing the picture of Larimar dozing with her claws tucked in cheered her a little.
Once she'd clicked "send", she reached down, petting the smooth shells of Chalcedony and Larimar as they scooped snacks from a bowl with their claws. Kyra, having quickly gobbled down her meal, wagged her tail and jumped around after Aeshna and Tacita. "Well, now I can keep watch over you," she said to the green Pokeball she took from her belt, "it's your turn for breakfast." She pressed the button, then hurriedly sprinkled quartz shards in front of the Ghost type that appeared. "Eat up! But only the ones you're given."
Almandine's crystalline eyes gleamed at the sight of the meal. She instantly tucked in, champing down the gems with loud crunches. Amber smiled as she watched, although she kept her finger on the Dusk Ball button, ready to return the Sableye at a moment's notice if she caused trouble. "Wow, just how many of those do you eat in one sitting?" she chuckled. "That'll be something to study. Good thing Rachel let us keep those mining kits, looks like I'll need one more than ever."
The travelling Rock type gym leader was probably on her way right now, but hopefully she'd figure out at least a little about yesterday's happenings.
Sophia, meanwhile, had woken bright and early. Well, to tell the truth she didn't feel one hundred per cent awake, not after yesterday's overexertion. It didn't really matter, though, as long as she could seem energised enough to draw the attention of passers-by. It was only a small gathering, but a gathering nonetheless.
"Now presenting, Sophia the Spectacular!" She gestured towards herself, then swept her hand in a wide, theatrical arc. The intricate origami Xatu she'd made flew around her, doing a flip before landing. As surprised stares turned to applause, she grinned. Paper wouldn't cause too much strain, and being praised rather than patronised was a welcome change.
Of course, some people refused to be impressed, rolling their eyes at fluttering Swoobats and dancing Grumpigs, dismissing her psychic tricks as some kind of stage illusion. A few others told her to tone down the high-and-mighty attitude. Sophia tried to pay them no notice. If they didn't want to recognise awesome, that was their problem.
One comment, however, she couldn't ignore.
"Not bad," said a bored-looking guy, "though you should see the Psychic type gym leader who visits town now and again. Now there's someone who could teach you a thing or two."
Sophia stood speechless as the man trudged along his way. Shame washed away all satisfaction. Someone had just HAD to remind her she couldn't compare to Ray. She resumed the show with some half-hearted tricks, but loss of enthusiasm won out.
"Well, I bet you wish you could watch me all day, but I'd better get going," she announced, her voice wavering despite the forced confidence. "You've been almost as great an audience as I am a performer!" She gave an exaggerated stage bow, only to stumble, planting her foot straight into a piece of chewing gum. Face reddening, she avoided eye contact with anyone as she scraped her shoe clean, then gathered up the paper Pokemon and the few coins she'd earned. Without a further word, she hurried back to the Pokemon centre.
Scowling, she took a seat in the corner, arms folded. Some day she'd be good enough. And today, she'd prove it with something other than a street performance. A gym rematch. Not that the thought of facing the expert who'd humiliated her two days ago comforted her any.
Aki couldn't help giving a little smile at Haruko's unrelenting energy, before her eyes shifted back to the newcomer. "It's alright, nothing to apologise for. My name is Harigae Aki," she told her, then gestured to the kimono-clad brunette. "And this is Takada Kichi."
As she waited for the others to introduce themselves, her expression settled once more into seriousness. She let the orb, no longer needed, fade. If she focused, she could pick up on a presence radiating from inside an office block. It was a relief to learn that the ember-wreathed girl was safe, although that left the question of why the switch had been needed. Had she gotten into trouble? Was she injured? Considering how tough the battle had been - much more so than expected - Aki didn't want to imagine, but needed to know.
"The girl you switched places with... She isn't hurt, is she?" After a glance at her comrades, she added, "Speaking of people being hurt, is there a healer around?"
Refreshed by Aki's magic, Kichi skipped closer to where she, Uetsuki and Haruko stood. "No need to worry!" Smiling over at Haruko, she swept her hand to indicate the crystal slivers gleaming on the ground, smaller but numerous. "There are more than enough spoils to go round!" She turned to the wounded girl, attempting to reassure her. "And one of the great things about being a magical girl is we recover pretty fast."
A tingle of magic, followed by a snapping sound, caught her attention. Not dark magic, thankfully, but a presence that felt like the rest of the team. The source stepped out of a nearby building, a brunette in deer-stalking attire, with a rifle at her belt. "Ohh! A stealth fighter, huh?" Kichi drew nearer, eyes wide. "Nice, did you help us out just now?"
Noriko piped up instantly. "Oh yes! I don't know her too well, but I do know she runs a..." As she stopped herself just in time, the cold weight of anxiety sank in Fuyuko's stomach.
Normally, it would be a good thing to have a new member in the chat room. If Sophia joined, though, especially if she used her phone right now... The username 'snowfairy'. That timid demeanour even online. The other magical girl would figure it out right away, and see the comments about the Hex Night. Maybe it wouldn't be a problem, but maybe it would.
"A social group for us. For magical girls," Noriko continued, her grin turning strained. Despite Fuyuko's relief that her sister hadn't specified what kind of group, guilt taunted her about the fact that she couldn't elaborate either.
"Yeah... It's surprising how many of us in one area there are," was all Fuyuko let herself say about it, traipsing along the path near the park, still on high alert as she looked out for anything suspicious. "Have you met any others here? Besides us?"
She wasn't the only one whose wariness had heightened upon reaching the city. Noriko seemed more and more tense by the moment - most likely not just because of the earlier incident or the possibility of awkward questions. As the sky darkened, shades would become active, the family home a target as always. It would soon be time for Noriko to leave, and for both sisters to try to explain why.
As more of the murk cleared, Kichi grinned at the sight of Haruko flailing with claws like her own.
"Pest-catching's what we cats do best!" she shouted, steadying herself and slashing at a lesser Vice. Every movement felt like she'd been fighting for much longer, but maybe with all of them working together, this would be easy after all...
Just as she threw her weight into another blow, the aura winked out. "Oh crap..." Missing her target, she toppled, her claws lodging into a wooden fence as she landed. Instantly, she ended the spell, the weapons disappearing. At a chill behind her, she scrabbled just in time to face the creature - which hissed and fell, sliced in half by the rose-knife wielder in berserker mode. "Whew, thanks!" she called, although she didn't know if the girl would even hear her in that state.
Just then, the air heated up, light flaring. The remaining smog cleared to reveal the main Vice imploding into a spiral of darkness, which crystallised into a jet-black fragment on the ground. "Wow, whoever did that, impressive move ther-"
Kichi winced as the fireball demolished part of a nearby, thankfully abandoned building. Maybe that move had been a little too impressive.
Just like that, the last few Vices were taken down, the team not unscathed but victorious. "Well, that takes care of that." Aki glanced from the largest crystal to the wrecked office block, a slight frown creasing her forehead. "Although I wonder what people are going to make of this."
She turned her gaze towards the upper storey of the warehouse. Sure enough, the man stared at the other building, withdrew from the window, and a few moments later hurried through the doors past the group. Even though magical girls and Vices went unnoticed by most people, that kind of aftermath wouldn't. The important thing, though, was that they'd succeeded. They'd saved him.
"This wasn't my doing," Aki told Haruko, picking up the gem, "so this should go to the one who earned it." As she scanned the team, cold shock gripped her. First at the state of the rose wielder, skin torn to ribbons, then at the realisation that they were a magical girl short.
Ignoring her own injury, she rushed towards the group. "I'm sorry I can't do more," she said, resting the Celestial Beacon against the wounded fighter's shoulder and sending forth an energy pulse, "but it'll help with fatigue at least." Once she'd done the same to the others, she turned to a new arrival on the scene, a pink-haired girl with bunny ears and a maid outfit. This girl had to have only just joined them - Aki was sure she'd have spotted someone so distinctive looking, even with all combatants partially obscured. Maybe she knew where the swordswoman was.
"Ah, hello." Aki bowed in greeting. "I was wondering, there was a red-haired girl here just now... Would you know where she went, and if she's alright?" She summoned the orb of light again, in case a search was needed, as she resisted the urge to lean on her staff. Revitalising everyone had taken its toll on her, but the rest of the team had enough to worry about.
@A Lowly Wretch Ok, I'll continue the discussion, and ooh good point about the chatroom. I have a day off work tomorrow, so should be able to catch up with posts.
