@ihinka - When magic gets reintroduced, you can choose for your character to get magic, learn magic, or not have any at all. ^-^ No wrong choice.

@Fuzzybootz - What you proposed sounds just fine - not too crazy but something unique. =3

Sofia sat on her bed, slowly grinding her blade with a stone, lost in thought about what her life had lead up to this point. While she was extremely proud of how far she came and her job gave her some measure of fulfillment, her childhood had been filled with fantasies of heroism. Though they were of places that didn't exist with cold mountains, beautiful lakes and blades, where one would fight a dragon with magical sword in hand. That was what she daydreamed a lot when she practiced her swordsmanship, but she was mostly used for traditions and duels for the pleasure of the nobles - it wasn't a bad life, but she quietly wondered if she was meant for more or if there was more to life. Now a days soldiers were those who held a gun in hand while the elite were trained on steed back and any resemblance to swordplay was reduced to spies and assassins.

Her daydream was cut short as she heard the call. "Knights, round up! The Empress is honoring one of the engineers!" With a quick sigh, she put down the stone and sheathed her sword and stood, nearly always ready for duty as she enjoyed the feel of the armor. The others, well, normally had to get ready which left her standing at the door patiently. After a few moments, her captain walked up and smirked softly. "Ready for service as always. If guns ever fail us, you shall be at the helm, hm?" he said, mostly serious.

"If only, but that day won't occur. I am fine honoring those who do good things." She was not content though, but there was little that could be done, but Captain Viktor knew this, only giving a smile and a pat on her shoulder. Before long they were marching out with elegance and with heads held high. Most people saw honor in being a knight these days, as it reminded everyone of where they had come from and what the heart of the nation was - true knights.

The knights lined up along the sides as soon as they made it to the throne room, standing straight and still with discipline as they waited for the quick ceremony to begin. Sofia wasn't sure why they were being honored, but it's soon become apparent. Before long, the Empress walked in from the back, taking a slow seat in her chair. She was pale of skin and despite her amazing beauty, her hair was still gray from age, though it was difficult to imagine she was a day over twenty-five. It was haunting to be honest, or at least Sofia thought as much and the feeling never did go away.

As the ceremony started, a man dressed nicely in more or less commoner's clothes came walking down the room. He was fidgeting nervously with his hat, but seemed mostly happy to have a personal audience with her majesty. She said words of praise on some new invention he had come up with concerning airships - nothing Sofia could understand - and earned a kiss on the cheek that made the poor fellow blush. As he was given leave, the knights raised their swords in unison until he found his way out. Sofia had taken note that he looked absolutely blissful. She was somewhat envious of that look.

Later that night..

Sighing and turning over in her bed, Sofia let out a sigh, hugging her shoulders as unease built up in her. For the last few nights she had felt uneasy for reasons unknown. She started to become less and less content with her lot in life, feeling this urge to go out and do something with her life. Being alone with no family did not help much either. Sure, she got along with the other knights, but it was hardly anything she would've called a family. It was more like a guild where people kept in touch and worked together, but that was the extent of it all. Most of them had their own rooms and families to go to, but Sofia simply slept in the barracks of the castle - usually alone.

She tried to relax as she closed her eyes, letting her mind drift, but the feeling only got more intense. It was almost like she was having some sort of panic attack causing her to grunt in frustration as she sat up in the bed. However something caught her eye as she blinked, looking to the doorway on the far side. At first it almost looked like a firefly though she had never seen one once inside the city walls. It was pleasant enough to watch until she started to see small sparkles and the sound of a twinkle here or there. Slowly, she got up, squinting at the strange bug when she all of a sudden gasped. She would've sworn! ... was that a fairy? There was no way! She must be imagining things. Right?
