Interesting. I have never had this problem until now. I have always blocked cookies to free up space, and until now that has never been a issue; as soon as I allowed cookies it loaded perfectly fine. WTF

Thanks for the help.

That's cool!

So for a bit of trivia, a cookie is a file that will store data on a pc (eg: chosen languages, login sessions, clicked links, shopping carts, etc). They are designed to track all your information so when you return to a site your preferences are still the same. As cookie sizes can only be so much some sites will choose to use third party cookies that will store a user ID on your computer and store information on their servers with the cookie linking that unique ID to said information.

The Guild uses the former for how it operates and it helps limit the information that it needs to store on the server itself. It helps speed up loading times as your computer has cashed much of the information already and, in theory, the only information it needs to store server side is the posts and the last time you logged in. There's no need for a third party cookie as it's a simple site unlike Ebay or Amazon which has so much information it needs to remember.

While blocking cookies can help prevent issues like those pesky ads and sites gathering what you selected in searches, it can create the issue of where you will notice some sites where you always have to re-select preferences or will take longer to load because it's treating you like a new user every time.
@Master Crim
Not allowing cookies may be the issue as the site relies on cookies to remember your login session.
If one of those also receive a potential partner who writes on the post, the post is then again bumped to the top.

A very good point too and one that does have the impact of affecting the experience of others.

Also remember that you, and anyone else for that matter, is more than welcome to message a member of staff if they happen to notice anything peculiar like this in the future. We do get messages about this kinda stuff all the time so it's not really a bother to us.
When it comes to regularly occuring 1x1 interest checks the most that anyone would, in theory, need is perhaps 2. One for regular roleplays and another that may cater for 18+ material. Occasionally you may get an extra couple around the place with the odd, one off request or specific... which is fine as not everyone wants to make a profile/bio page for finding a partner.

Strictly speaking, the Guild doesn't have a rule about excessive checks (seen with how some people may post the same check in the General Interest Check sub-forum), but it does have a rule about spamming the site, and even these in this situation are more guidelines for keeping the peace than actual hard rules (unless you ignore a moderator's request multiple times). As it is, this kinda thing, especially with 3 users doing it at once, is pretty rare.

For this situation, we'd probably message the user and request that they would condense up some of their checks or limit the bumping to one thread as opposed to (the seen higher number of) four. Just a reminder that other people are trying to find partners too.
Click Raw on the top right of my post.

Apologies for interrupting story time, but I have a random question that I've been tossing around in my head.

According to the name change thread, it states the following:

<Snipped quote by Guild Mods>
I have no coding expertise, hence why I am curious if this will always be the case. No problem if it is, but I was wondering if any of you had an answer since I can't get what @NuttsnBolts said the last time I asked for a name change out of my head after remembering it for some reason. "But Poi!"

If Mahz can code it, he can change it. One possibility is that you could have a list of previous usernames that you can change back into, but I would doubt that you'll be allowed to swap out a name so that someone else can take it (eg: if I wanted Poi). That would create a lot of confusion that we don't really need.

Might be worth showing this to @Mahz to see of he can drop some info on it.

The Well of Valdis
12th Day of Autumn, 1088 AD

Young fire, burning in a tenebrous pit. A flame which birthed from the lost and irrecoverable past to give life anew. It moved, searing and scorching through the black as it expelled waves of colour and light; for once lit, it would not be extinguished until death consumed it offering.

The fluttering of eyelids, still sealed shut, signalled the time to once again rise. They feared to open, feared to look upon the world with a sense of enthusiasm, for it was the scent of the dead which was recognised by young Audhild. The wet smell of rotting flesh and the sickly taste that swirled through the nostrils was inescapable, uncontrollable, and forcibly consumed by those who had awoken. A pulse of instinctive energy erupted from deep within the woman's gut, a contraction of vomiting reflexes that produced no more than gaseous air. Century old taste of maggots and bacteria.

An alien scream flowed from her lips as her body reared awake. Eyes torn open, the pants of hysteria, the adrenalin which slumbered for so long kicked Audhild with a medicinal high that could almost send her back to the depths of death. Her mind had forgotten everything that once was, but her body was not so complainant. Without thought, without hesitation, Audhild climbed through the seas of corpses that laid upon her unfortunate soul as she rose to the summit of flesh and bone. It had become a birth of life through the gift of death — a reaper's failed task, or a god's forsaken gift.

"Hvor er jeg?" Words muttered from a language unknownst to even her as she surveyed the hills of tarred blood.

"Where am I?" She repeated, finally clearing a section of intellect with much needed logic and curiosity. Expressing the confusion to demand an answer from whatever benevolent being that happened to be watching over them at this point in their life. As though it was the will of the universe Audhild heard the subtle sounds of voices from afar, resonating through the pitch void to her sensitive ears.

"Who goes there?" She bellowed, husky and full of might as she dropped to her knees in a scampering forage for any form of suitable protection. A blade, a bone, even flesh to throw would be better than nothing, but the more she searched the more she found which was not suitable to her needs. Her hands brushed over every surface in a panicked frenzy as two names snuck their way into her thoughts...

Oyen & Stohl...

Audhild froze. For the first time since awakening the Skogarian woman had recollected some form of memory. The most insignificant of drops in the ocean of the past, but enough to remind her what it once felt to be human.

"Where am I?" A third time for asking the same question, but this time she was awaiting an answer. Too many questions were formulating inside her head, and none had been truly answered... all except that she knew she had somehow been reborn.

@The Valkyrie Unfortunately only Mahz can do that sort of change since he has to actually do some database edits. The system wont allow us to change it because usernames are locked to actual user ID numbers, which are invisible to the regular member.

Hypothetically speaking, if we were to reassign their username and try to change yours to the "free" one, it wouldn't work either for that same reason.

At the moment we are seeing if he is able to come back and work on the site, so I do have to ask for you to be patient, but I can understand your frustration.

Sincere apologies.

Smith's Rest, New Anchorage | Outside HQ
March 27th, 2677

It was the morning and Madison was nestled within the soft snow as she watched the beams of radiant light stretch out over the horizon. They were gentle, warm, and filled with a subtle sense of joy that tried so desperately to fight off the sorrows and tears which had fallen down her right cheek; an unfortunate scene of a girl with the inability to completely release her emotions thanks to the cybernetics implants on the left side of her face. They were crystal speckled droplets, frozen on the surface, and the tears scorched down Madison's face like tiny, serrated diamonds that left highways of red, irritated skin. The girl watched the horizon from her secluded lookout, eyeing off the various mountains and ravines as she buried her chin between her knees. It was only the sounds of a transport leaving the facility that caused her attention to finally shift.

The vehicle left the perimeter, carving its way across the lands as it headed off to Falcon's Reach. If Madison's assumptions were correct it was the same transport that bought her to the base the previous year, a moment when she officially signed up to become a part of this dysfunctional family of pilots and mechanics. Through the snow it travelled as it left the safety of the compound; through the snow it travelled leaving its mark as the first official expedition since the reigns of Graham and Celina; through the snow it travelled... carrying three, New Anchorage, pilots

"COWARD!!!"

A scream of frustration escaped the young girl's mouth, aimed at a certain parental figure for his actions the previous night, but instead the echoes of the mountains chose to respond with earnest might. They reflected back her words, they cut their way through her weakened defences, and they hit her inner spirit like a ballistic mortar shot. Madison felt her heart sink to depths she had not felt before, questioning her own self value as she mulled over the reactions from the audience at the press conference, and opinions of the other pilots.

"I'm not... a coward." Words mumbled with hurt as she subconsciously allowed her own words of anger to enter into her thoughts, a harsh reality of how she viewed her own self value. "I am not... a coward."

Cautiously the girl reached into her lap, placing her hands around a wooden handle, a utensil of Duncan's toolbox that slept silently and safely within its leather home. She hadn't slept, and the growing insomnia plagued her mind with ideas and thoughts with what she had to do. The steel blade began to sing as she cautiously drew it from a deep slumber. A sheet of metal that glistened with the sunlight from the morning sun, cleanly polished and razor sharp. She eyed the blade, seeing herself reflected straight back at her, a sight of a pink haired woman with a bloodshot eye from the emotional tears; such a horrifying sight to behold.

"I am not a coward," a gentle whisper.

The hand reached around to her hair, grasping the long strands that flowed down over her shoulders as she pulled them back to expose her naked neck. Then, as if by invitation, Duncan's blade was lifted into position and rested carefully upon her soft skin. The stone cold edge rocked back and forth as she consciously positioned it, ready to choose the resolve that she desperately needed for herself... and for everyone else.

"I am Madison Cole..."

Final words of courage, a set of eyes that closed, the final gulp, and the ear piercing sound of a harrowing slice echoed across the snow.

* * *

One by one strands of baby pink began to fall, dancing in the breeze as they slowly fell towards the snow. The girl never before had hair that flowed so beautifully down her back, but ever since she had awoken, ever since she had appeared as a different person in a different body, she had been treated as the child, a baby, that girl who needed the protection of every other pilot. For Madison, enough was enough and she was ready to return to the old Madi and fight whatever it was that had been brewing up inside her since the accident.

Standing up from the snow and turning back towards the outpost entrance, Madison made the long, arduous walk back into the base, stomach growling from hunger, and ready to prove everyone... fucking... wrong.
