Apologies to all writing partners both current & prospective. Been sick for two weeks straight (and have to go to work regardless). No energy. Can't think straight. Taking a hiatus. Sorry again.

Where's the personality? The flavor? the drama? The struggle? The humanity? The texture of the time and the place in which this conversation is happening? In a word: where's the story?
Would a simple description of the physical characteristics suffice for the out of gear stuff?
I prefer photos if you can find one, but I understand that the sort of character art you're looking for simply doesn't exist sometimes. Descriptions are fine.
@Skepic Can you do better than anime photos? Other than that there's some grammatical editing which needs to be done, but the character herself is pretty cool.
@The Harbinger of Ferocity He mentioned in a status feed that he would be gone a while. Some urgent business or other.
I doubt he has abandoned us whimsically, but rather by a sense of priority. Something happening IRL is more important than the RP right now, which I think we all can respect.
Reserving one more post just in case. Hi. Eventually a "Story So Far" recap sort of post will be placed here.Note to self:

The first IC post will be a GM post, in the style of a third-person omniscient narrator. I will be able to set any scene you like. However, I will need to know "where" you wish for your character to begin.
Now, naturally you'll notice I don't have a map. I didn't plan to, either, but if we need one I'll get one. Anyway, it would be wise for the players to decide whether they're near other players (and if so, whom), and what sort of environment they would like to be in: for example, forests, swamps and rivers, a village, a derelict factory.
I will craft plot-hooks for every individual or group of people depending both on their environment and how many PCs and NPCs they elect to start nearby.
A NeD. A drunk. A misanthropic individual frustrated with bullshit laws and bullshit people. He has a calm, mellow voice and a surprising philosophical streak—especially when he's pissed on the tonic!—but at the end of the day he's still an argumentative punk who spends his money as quickly as he earns it. People are often shocked to find a swearing, whisky-swigging Scot behind the stoic gas mask, and the calm, steady hands of the sniper rifle.
Danny minds his own business, which always puts a greater momentum in the rumors spinning around a man. Of the few stalkers who think he's "fuckin' crazy" (most don't mind him, as outside of his drunken opining, he has never gone out of his way to lie, cheat, steal, or recklessly kill), some think that once the Zone emerged, he decided to kill his girlfriend and make his escape here. Some think he's in it because he thrives on the chaos and anarchy. Others are just keen on making sure they're not the next person sitting pretty in his crosshairs.
𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲:
Danny never was a lad for highfalutin notions like ambition and pride; he defined his life by contentedness and short-term happiness, and he was perfectly content as a busboy and a short-order cook in a hole-in-the-wall Glasgow chippy, passing his time with booze, drugs, and trespassing. So his visit to the Zone would have been seen by his family and friends (had he told them) as strange, at the very least; what did he intend to discover? Who did he intend to meet? Public urination and the occasional indecency were not worth escaping polite society for the profound dangers of the irradiated Zone. He didn't need a "clean slate," as did so many murderers and rapists.
He had come, rather, as a "tourist," a dumb city-slicker who saved up big money (at least by his standards) for a ferry, a truck ride, and an escort service, to get a taste of the Zone in safe, sterile laboratory conditions; surrounded by guides and guards, poking about at the farthest edges of the Circle, where no real threats were ever posed to anyone. Not even the stupidest bandits operated so close to the checkpoints, where soldiers were armed with G-thirty-sixes and good bulletproof armor. Indeed, he had arrived seeking a strange sort of action-packed vacation, a brief respite from the monotony of Glasgow while also avoiding the boring hotels and monotonous sunny skies of a resort; but whatever Danny found, it caused him to stay. He stopped paying rent on his trashy little apartment and he scraped around til he could afford the supplies he needed, which at the time meant shitty black market pistols and milsurp rations, hardly the equipment of a true stalker, but nonetheless, what he managed to hoard under Britain's tight weapons laws. Through a combination of street-smarts, dumb luck, and a habit of getting on well with other addicts and antisocials, he has improved his situation considerably, having earned something of a reputation, at least in one particular trading town, as a guide and small-time assassin.
He seems not to have told the people from his "old life" that he has come here, as he frets rather consistently about particular people finding him, at which point he'll be "proper pooched." Hopefully that rumored dead girlfriend ain't coming back from the dead to seek revenge; most stalkers have seen more bizarre things in the Zone, after all.
Usually he's an escort for dumb little tourist trips around the forests and decrepit villages near the Circle (the barbwire surrounding nearly the entire circumference of the Zone), a job which yawns him terribly. Only occasionally does something exciting happen to him, from mutant hunting to more serious bandit repulsion.
𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬:
VSS Vintorez chambered for subsonic 9×39mm, a rare round of Russian origin. To Danny's knowledge there is exactly one trader who stocks it, with whom Danny by necessity maintains a steady and stable business relationship. Anyway, he has deemed the benefits worth the costs; he can shoot with no muzzle flash and with very little noise, allowing him to snipe without revealing his position. This is more important than many stalkers know; neither boars nor bandits like very often to travel alone!
Beretta 92 chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum. Danny compensates somewhat for his rare rifle ammo by using the world's most common military pistol ammo, easy both to scrounge and to buy from traders, and as far as bullets go, pretty goddamn cheap. So at least he's never totally defenseless if shit gets clatty. Oddly, he stocks up on tracer rounds for this pistol when he can find them.
MOD 4 utility knife and relevant accessories for maintenance and convenient carry.
This character, roleplayed by @SilverFallen, is a reckless but compassionate woman who hopes to find lost kin in the Zone, and return him to their family.
This character, roleplayed by @DepressedSoviet, is a happy-go-lucky Australian adrenaline junkie looking for the next great challenge in wilderness survival.
Welcome to Cyanide Suns. This is a Post-Apocalyptic roleplay with no zombies, no viruses, and no frills. This is the RP for people who like Dostoyevsky, Tarkovsky, and Zamyatin; the people who like to slow down and take it easy a bit with their action and adventure. My brothers-from-other-mothers who throw big dollops of existential angst, depression, and alcoholism into their characters.
Here's a rudimentary rundown of the story behind this RP (though I'll keep a list of worldbuilding crap in a Hider down below): It's the mid-nineties, in an alternate universe where the Cold War went suddenly hot about one decade ago. The "Two Days War" resulted in very abrupt and massive destruction both of Europe and of Asia before a sudden ceasefire was agreed upon by both parties, ending the holocaust as suddenly as it had begun. While the majority of the civilized world continues to function (albeit in a sort of post-war shellshocked state), many pockets across Europe and Asia have been irreparably ruined by the light which blinds the eye and the winds which level cities. Power plants, areas of industry, and major population areas especially were targeted during those fateful forty-eight hours!
And amidst the deaths of these places rose the wriggling white maggots: colloquially known as stalkers.
In this RP you have entered an Exclusion Zone for your own reasons. These reasons are up to you. (There's a pretty good list of ideas in the IntChk if I may say so myself.) What's not up to you is what will stand in your way: bandits, mutants, radiation, weather and climate, hostilities between traders and their factions,...and more.
To you who are interested, welcome. I hope this RP will see success for a very long time, and with that goal in mind, here are the rules which will be followed in this thread:
You know this shit already: godmoding, metagaming, Mary Sues, and so on. These are bad. Don't do them.
I like politeness and courtesy. I like freedom of speech even more.
If you're going to be absent, give us (me) some fair warning. I'm not holding up the entire RP for you if you cannot be arsed to show up to the thread once a week.
Both PCs and NPCs can die. No plot armor here.
Everything in this RP is considered Advanced-level, except for post length. IDGAF how long your posts are, but competence and style with the English language are a must.
You are allowed to enter "speedposting" mode if you and another player have entered a verbal conversation with not very many actions going on nearby. I don't mind this. Use your discretion, and again, when in doubt, ask. Collaborative posts on Skype and Google Docs are cool too!
Feel free to do your own worldbuilding! But if in doubt, send me a PM. I care mostly about tone and atmosphere, but our bits and pieces of lore should not contradict each other.
It's the mid-1990s.
There are many Exclusion Zones all across the Warsaw Pact and NATO countries, where the atom bombs were dropped. Ours is somewhere in southwest Germany.
Zombies? What's that? Never heard of it. Surely they don't exist. (Trust me. They don't.)
Lots of mutants though. These will be based on the real mutants which live near the CNPP to this day, and which crawled out of the fallout of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Obviously some liberties will be taken with science; most real mutants are sterile, but ours will have become actual species by now.
It's been between 5 and 15 years since the bombs dropped during the "Two Day War."
I honestly don't know how I will handle radiation yet. A player shouldn't be doomed to a guaranteed slow and agonizing death if his character wanders into an irradiated area. But whatever we end up doing, it's still dangerous and you shouldn't go swimming in it.
Try to be reasonable when it comes to equipment, both in your inventory and in traders'. What would we successfully be able to smuggle into the Zones? For example, vehicles basically will not exist; only a few people own them, most of these people are military or smugglers, and any of them will shoot you dead for trying to jack their trucks.
Your currency isn't bullets (though barter will certainly be feasible), bottlecaps, or artifacts. It's money. Remember, most of the world continues to function somewhat normally outside of the Zones!
The collection of military checkpoints, barbwire fences, and sniper towers surrounding the Zone is called "The Circle." It exists to keep radioactive dust out of civilization, and to keep civilization away from the radioactive dust. You are here illegally, and therefore are a criminal; although it's up to you whether you were also a criminal before coming here.
etc. (if questions are asked, or I think of more to add)
Here's a link to the IntChk, in case I've already answered one of your questions.
Here's the template/skeleton for your character sheet:

As many nicknames as you like, but at least one ought to be profession-based, like in the movie. They refer to each other as Scientist, Doctor and Stalker instead of their real names, and we do that here, too.
Another popular trend in the Zone is to be named after a national food or beverage. Alcohol is common.

𝐀𝐠𝐞:

Approximate age goes here.

𝐒𝐞𝐱:

Male or Female.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲:

A rough outline. I don't want to know everything about your character before I've even met him IC. Creating an explicit list of likes/dislikes will result in the character's immediate and unwavering rejection!

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲:

I don't really give a huge goddamn in this area either. Again, the less you tell me here, the more you can reveal during the course of the RP. Short and sweet; trust your gut on what you should mention and what not. Also found here are media which, although not always directly relevant to the RP or its genre, will greatly aid the players in the matters of tone and atmosphere, character development, plot progression et cetera, should they choose to indulge in such materials. Many of these are personal favorites:
