Appearance: Blake - Standing at 5'10 with a above average build. A mix of white and black hair with grey eyes. Along with several piercings on his right ear.

Personality: Blake can be described as a laid-back and generally friendly individual. Preferring to stay behinds the scenes rather than be the center of attention. A result of his shy nature, and something he is comfortable with. Which despite his laid back nature, he does have a stubborn aspect to him. For once he chooses something important to him, it is hard to dissuade him from that. Especially when it comes to family for Blake can be protective of people he cares about. Besides that, Blake does have a passion for history and learning. Learning whatever he can about the past and is eager to share or teach what he has learned.

Soul Powers: Soul Weapons - Blake is able to create weapons made of soul energy. Limited to only melee weapons and how strong the weapon is, is dependent on how much soul energy he uses in making it.

Soul Bolt: Blake sends out a blast of soul energy at a target from his hands. How strong the bolt is, is dependent on how much soul energy he uses in making it.

Soul Shield: Blake is able to channel his soul energy into a shield that surrounds him and anything in 3 feet of him. However, he cannot attack while this shield is active and it drains him of soul energy as he uses it.

Skills: Good runner, Expert at history, somewhat knowledgeable about medicine, good cook.
Personal Belongings: iPhone, hybrid watch, several school books, black messenger bag to carry his books, wallet, earbuds, laptop, and a 2020 Ford Fusion in the university parking garage.

Background: Blake was born in Portland, Maine, to a university professor and former nurse. The eldest of two, Blake always had a good relationship with his family growing up. Being closest to his younger sister despite the four-year age cap between them. Always looking out for her and for the most part. Blake had a good upbringing and his parents encouraged his passion for history.

When it came time to go to a university, Blake after thinking about his prospects and decided on going to Benjamin Franklin University. Starting his path to being an archeologist though he would make few friends while at the university. Still, Blake could not complain and enjoys his time in Philadelphia. Though things will change for him soon that will change not only his life but others as well.

Okay, this turned out differntly than I expected, so the character I was thinking of trying out doesn't really work here. But that's okay, because I have like a million characters, and this other one fits rather well.

Ryoko Yumekishi

"Okay... I've become an anime protagonist. Discuss!"

Name: Ryoko Yumekishi

Gender: Female

Age: 21

Nationality: Japanese

Appearance: With a picture to start out with...

Ryoko stands a fairly-average 5'10", and a reasonable athlete. She is not a track star runner, just physically fit, having grown up in the standard lifestyle of Japan...and then living an American one. Not a traditionalist, she often wears jeans, t-shirt, and jacket and never anything formal. The rugged comfort of a motorbiker's clothes or something similarly tough that doesn't look bad even with wear-and-tear has always appealed to her more than style. Certainly, this has nothing to do with the presenters of a popular car show who eventually left that show to start ANOTHER car show that was very popular. The look that she went for was essentially the smooth and calm exterior crossed with the rough sort of coating that says she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.

She doesn't have any scars or unusual markings. She looks good and looks the way she likes. As for the odd color in her eyes... Well, they are officially classified as 'maroon', which people can get for an eye color. Whether that's actually what happened there is anybody's guess. She never thought anything of it, herself.

Personality: No picture here, of course.

Part of the reason Ryoko is the way she is has to do with her growing up wondering how people will react to a sudden change. Now, she didn't do anything TOO outlandish, but usually defying convention just a little in Japan is enough. You see, Japan is very often a stressful society to live in. People are pressured to succeed for the honor of their family and to themselves. This sort of thing has had a profound effect on Ryoko, because she had been in classes where a student committed suicide before a critical examn. It really happens, and it's always terrible when it does. And it's things like that that make you ask 'Why?'. Why do these things happen? What possible influences make a person one way or another, and how can the more harmful aspects be stopped?

Because of all that, Ryoko is studying psychology, and is a noted observer of behaviors, emotional reactions, and various influences on the human psyche. She lives a life that is different from the norm because {A} she likes it and {B} she believes it to be more healthy. The words 'Let's not get bogged down' from her favorite show have real meaning in the psychological department. If you let yourself get hampered to the point of mental paralysis over a problem, terrible things may befall you before you cross the bridge you were worrying about. Ryoko is, therefore, a young lady looking to fix problems - fix people - before they break completely. She examines the world by being disarming and unexpected in her manner, then offering a helping hand once you remove your jaw from the floor.

Soul Powers: So, apart from the Soul Sight, the Soul Awareness, and the Exorcism abilities...

Interpretation - Otherwise known as Soul Reading. For those who can perceive the state of the soul, there is more to learn than just the surface. Their intentions, state of mind, and even capabilities can also be gleaned from whatever being Ryoko happens to be scanning. Basically, her Sight learns more. She can see the way you shape your abilities, when the power is charging for an attack, and whether you're truly worthy of a butt-kicking. (It is possible for her to pick up on subtle vibes that indicate a person feels trapped or has no choice but to act the way they do, or other things like that.) This is a tactical ability to know thy enemy. Know thy friends too, really. Same drawbacks as Soul Sight. It's a little obvious when she's used it.

Distortion - Now, here's a fun one. Ryoko projects audio and visual hallucination to varying degrees. At its weakest, you feel like you're drunk and you might fall down. At its worse, the effect is nausea-inducing, headache-inducing, massively-imbalancing, and you may not be able to get up for some time IF you don't black out first. It's not focused ON the mind, though she can instill it in ONE individual if she manages physical contact. Otherwise, it's projected in the real world as warping of the light to confuse your eyes and a noise that affects the eardrums to confuse your balance and coordination. She can narrow it to a direction to minimize collateral, but if it's against a group, the field is wide and can affect EVERYONE. It's like that Batman character, Vertigo, basically.

Soul Punch - Otherwise known as the Soul Impact. This ability allows Ryoko to transfer energy into impact, to make it stronger than it normally would. Now, she is physically fit, so a kick from her probably hurts. Therefore, a Soul Impact kick would normally put someone in the hospital. It takes only a small amount of energy per hit, as she can't just super-charge One Punch beyond belief, but if she has to do a flurry of moves, they will add up. It's a simple and straightforward kind of move, but like Ryoko herself, it is the rough with the smooth. Although, as an added bonus, she CAN transfer that force to an object and throw it, thus giving the actual object the oomph instead.

Skills: Majoring in psychology, so she's excellent in observation and seeing a clear pattern of action in things. Great driver and decent at mechanical repairs, as well. Tried the parkour thing, but it wasn't really for her. Learned to fight, instead. Not an expert, but skilled enough in self-defense to feel confident. She can speak, read, and write Japanese and English.

Personal Belongings: Wallet, keys, cellphone, backpack, tablet, notepad, pens, books, etc. She keeps Hammerhead in either a garage or just around where there's a parking space.

Background: Beginning!

Born in Saitama - No, not that one. - Ryoko was born in the heart of a very ordinary childhood with few outlyers. Because life was seemingly very predictable, she became highly-observant of occurrances that were outside of the norm. And rather than disapproviing of of things that seemed outlandish like some people, she became curious and examined them, trying to find out the WHY. From there, she took more of an interest in foreign shows, including one about three idiots who would talk about cars and do crazy things in them. A certain love of cars and of foreign culture budded about then.

It was a decent life. Her parents were a little concerned by her actions, but as long as she remained a studious academic - that there was no indicator that these habits made her grades slip - they were okay with it. Actually, they were being quite reasonable, especially when Ryoko explained that the departure from the norm allowed her to unwind more. In this way, she went through her education...which was struck suddenly by the suicide of a fellow classmate prior to exams. This led her to want to know more about the WHY in life, and how to address it properly, a line of reasoning which led her to study in Psychology. She wanted to help people and prevent tragedies such as this.

This was rather heavy - and heady - work, and Ryoko felt that her sampling was a little too small in Japan. Taking a page from her favorite podcast - The Traveling Hatto-san - she decided to get out from where she lived, and not just cross-country...but out of it! She was going to study abroad, and because she needed to be able to get around, she and her parents worked to finance a car, which would be waiting for her in California to drive all the way to the Eastern side of Pennsylvania and the college awaiiting her therein. Yes, a road trip, somewhere in the neighborhood of two thousand miles...in the perfect car. Ryoko had bought a refurbished classic, the Ford Mustang Scorpion, much like the one driven in Starman by the most laid-back human alive, Jeff Bridges.

The trip allowed her to properly absorb American culture and get use to life here. She was gonna be in for a while. However, once she got to Ben Franklin University, Ryoko had NO IDEA what was going to turn up next.

Name: Ella Blackheart

Gender: female

Age:19

Appearance: 5'1 she is slightly muscular but is weak. Has scars over her body from a tough childhood. Her body is slightly curved she is skinny but she can be an amazing girl her hair is blond but when in the sun the tips appear to turn golden blond. Her eyes are a light brown and when in sun they appear to have golden flexes in them.
Nationality: American, French, and German

Personality: Ella is very passionate about many things, and especially so with the people she loves. When she cares for someone, she cares for them deeply and has experienced enough loss in her life to never want to feel it again. Ella's passionate nature also often extends to her interests, including books, sweets, and music. Ella can often be called rude or even evil, but she obviously loves her homeland and friends very much.
Ella feels things both strongly and deeply. While she is often teasing, witty, and carefree when she is happy, Ella's most immediate reaction when angry or sad is to channel her darker emotions into a barely-contained rage or killing calm. This gets her into trouble more often than not,
Ella also has a strong moral compass. Though she often tries to suppress the memories of her tumultuous past, her experiences have shaped her into the woman she is, and that is a woman who does not tolerate injustices.

Soul Powers: (Will figure out)

Skills: Self Management- rarely likes to have help, Able to think through tough situations, Resilient, Can be a good leader but doesn't show it, and able to help others and work in groups although rare.

Background: Ella's past is pretty rough. Growing up as a kid on multiple occasions she was bullied and harmed. Her own mother and father would abuse her and call her "it" instead of treating her like a human for in her world anything other than a human was a disgrace. She does not look to her mom and dad as her parents for she ran away at 14 her brother along with her but he left her to die.

Relationships: Ella's family abandoned her, she has no family and no friends.

I know you are not done, but, I wanted to list some things about the app. Like could you explain how she ended enrolling at Benjamin Franklin University? Since running from home and being left for dead at 14, leaves questions on how she survived up to being 19 and enrolling at a university.

Lucas Hillcrest

Name: Lucas Hillcrest

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Appearance: Lucas has fiery red hair that reaches the back of his neck. It is unruly and unkept as a general rule of him. Lucas always seems to be tired and its seen in the bags that are usually under his eyes. His body is very lean and not muscular but it is defined. He stands at five feet and ten inches. Lucas has Heterochromia, which is two say he has two different eye colors. His left eye is emerald green while his right eye is sky blue.

Nationality: Scottish/Irish mutt but born in the States so lacks the accent.

Personality: Lucas is a rather quiet individual. He will almost never be the center of attention and in most cases would rather be left alone to his own devices. If people did not know him they would immediately think he is arrogant because his face almost always seems to scream he'd rather be somewhere else. While this is true it's not because he hates where he is or the person who is talking to him is keeping him distracted from something important. Lucas is just always tired and dreaming of his bed. Lucas suffers from insomnia and if he wants to sleep like a normal human being. The sheer amount of sleeping medicine he'd need would knock out an elephant. It's for this reason that Lucas loves to read or study things. He has to find things to do when normal people are sleeping at like 4 in the morning. The fact that on any given day Lucas is borderline delirious from exhaustion means he normally doesn't care about what he says or who he offends because he is just to tired to care. He's not an asshole, just the brain filter is shut off from his autopilot.

Soul Powers: Lucas has three soul powers.

Soul movement: This ability allows Lucas to coat his feet in soul energy allowing him to move almost silently and also has the effect of allowing him to move faster, but he is currently unable to do both at the same time.

Soul Shadow: This ability allows Lucas coat his entire body in soul energy that allows himself to blend into his surroundings. Like camouflage.

Soul gun: Lucas has managed to be able to separate some of his soul energy from his body and form it into a small energy bullet that rests on the tip of his thumb. He can flick it at objects. Damage varies based on the distance and how much soul power he puts into the bullet.

Skills: Lucas is an avid reader, so his knowledge is above average. Lucas is also something of a mediator because if two people are fighting its going to bother him as he won't want to listen to it so he'd rather try to solve the issue.

Personal Belongings: Wallet, Iphone 12, airpods, His totebag that carries his school supplies.

Background:
Lucas was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Financially he has never known hardships as both of his parents are millionaires that each own several hundred housing developments all over the world. It is also for this reason that he seldom ever saw his parents while he grew up and saw his servants as his parent figures more and they always strived to instill a sense of humbleness within in. He is currently where he is to learn more things and see if he can find a way to combat insomnia.

Relationships: Mother and father- They are there and they know of one another but they see each other maybe only a few times a year. Mr. Jennings- Lucas' "adopted" father. This old man has been Lucas' primary care taker and he will do anything for that man, even going so far as to help out Mr. Jennings with his own personal allowance when Mr. Jennings has medical issues.

Background: His parents had him late in their lives, and as such considered him their miracle child. Both were heavily religious. His father passed away unexpectedly when he was young and his mother a few years later after a long slow battle with an illness. After that he had to make it on his own. He had some support but while loving, his family was poor, especially after cost of all the medical care, and he was left with little. He worked hard and studied harder, giving up much of what he enjoyed to try and make ends meet.
Relationships: He has had little time for relationships between caring for his mother, working any laboursom job he can find, studying and still trying to exercise.

Duncan is a big guy. Standing over most at 6'4", Duncan is a bear of a man, built like a brick wall and probably just as solid. Duncan's physique is broad and sinewy, and low in relative body fat- quite clearly one of an athlete. Despite his build, Duncan typically stands in a very relaxed, bordering on lazy posture. His dark brown hair is short to medium length, and is often pulled back and tied in a short ponytail or top knot, and his chin and jaw is typically adorned with a tasteful amount of scruff a few days old. Both of his arms are covered in tattoos and his eyes are a warm, homey brown.

Personality:
Warm and easygoing, Duncan generally carries himself with an amicable and lax attitude. While not the most academically gifted student, Duncan supplements his lacking book smarts with a surprising amount of practical knowledge and experience. Though generally slow to boil, Duncan has a bit of a temper and can be quite imposing when properly riled up. While casually boastful and quite self confident of himself and his own abilities, Duncan isn't afraid to acknowledge his own shortcomings, and isn't above requesting help when needed. Loyal to a fault and seemingly fearless, Duncan has a rather well developed moral compass and won't hesitate to stand up what he thinks is right.

Soul Powers: Duncan's soul powers revolve around mostly protection and sustaining through long conflicts, with only a single aggressive ability.

• Soul Claws - Enveloping his fist or other striking surface with Soul energy allows Duncan to enhance and empower his strikes. The strength of the claws can be increased at the cost of deeper drain on Duncan's soul energy.
• Projected Soulmail - Encasing his body in soul energy, Duncan can significantly reduce the damage of incoming attacks. Duncan can also eschew his own personal protection to project the Soulmail onto someone else, redirecting their incoming damage to himself.
• Soul-Fueled Regeneration - Expend soul energy to rapidly increase the self healing rate of wounds. Drastically inefficient compared to other methods of healing, but useful in an emergency.
• Soul Dynamo (Passive) - A small portion of the damage that Duncan takes is converted to temporary soul energy to be used in his other abilities. This temporary energy cannot take the place of actual soul energy and eventually disappears if not used.

Skills:
Currently attending BFU on a sports scholarship, Duncan is a member of the University's soccer team. He stays active regularly and is in top shape. Generally good with his hands, Duncan also possesses plenty of practical skills, from changing tires and jumping cars to camping and cooking.

Personal Belongings:
On hand Duncan typically keeps his wallet, phone and headphones. A school bag over his shoulders holds his books, a laptop and a spare pair of shoes. He keeps a car in the school garage.

Background:
The youngest of 2, Duncan was born to a pair of laborers in Chicago, Illinois. Duncan spent most of his childhood helping out around his family's auto shop. His family was never poor, but with two children, they were never particularly rich either. He earned decent grades in his early school years, and despite getting into a few scrapes and fights, he managed to graduate high school and was offered a sports scholarship to attend Benjamin Franklin University.

Having attended BFU for a few years now, Duncan has started to become fairly comfortable around the University grounds. While not achieving and particular academic success, Duncan has found some success and recognition as a member of one of the University's sports teams.
Relationships:
Mother & Father - Duncan gets along fairly well with his parents, though has been a bit distant as of late. He cites a busy schedule as a reason he can't call home all the time.
Lena Fang - Duncan's older sister and a current a graduate student at BFU. The Fang siblings get along rather well, Duncan is naturally protective of his sister and Lena will regularly chide him about his grades. The siblings share an apartment on campus.

Question about the soul powers- from the premise, it seems that the characters will be learning about/how to use their powers throughout the RP, but at the start of the RP are they aware that they have their powers/have knowledge on how to use them? Or are we pre-emptively listing the powers they will learn?

No, your chars would not know of their powers out the gate. Once their power awakens then they will learn how to use their powers. So yes, you are pre-emptively listing the powers they will learn.
