Bloodlines: Last Hope

Benjamin Franklin University, a prestigious and old university in venerable Philadelphia. Establish just some twenty years after the American Revolution and has been a bastion of learning ever since. Managing to survive unscathed throughout the nation's history from the war of 1812 to the American Civil War. A place that has also managed to unintentionally stay out of the human-demon war that has touched so many places in the world. Up to now, though, as unknowingly to the staff and students of the university. A demon has taken an interest in the old university and stalks its halls while waiting for an opportunity to capture its prize.

Meanwhile, the unsuspecting staff and students of the Benjamin Franklin University are continuing their studies, course work, and other academic duties. While enjoying the end of winter and the arrival of sweet spring. The cold weather going away for the most part, and people can enjoy warmer weather.

Although for an unsuspecting group of students, today will prove to be an interesting one. For today will be an awakening of sorts to these students that probably would have never had known each other before. But, they will come to rely on each one as their birthright will awaken in them, and these students will be thrusted into the human-demon war. And embark on a journey of what was thought impossible and save a race from demonkind.

But, for now, they are just simply students seeking an education while unaware of their shared past and abilities. How these students will handle the power and responsibility of their powers will be seen. That and if they can survive being hunted by demons and save the Sagion from their cruel fate is solely up to them.

Blake Enders

What a lovely day, Blake thought as he looked out a window while sitting in the university library. Sitting in one of the many desks and one of the few ones that were near one of the windows. Wearing his usual attire, a black jacket with a white-collar shirt with black pants. It was about noon, and Blake was just in the middle of doing some homework. Choosing a strategically placed table near a window, and could not help to admire the weather outside.

The sun shining bright and the clear skies. A nice warming temperature and a nice breeze. It had the markers of a good day outside. Unfortunately, winter is over, so no more snow but, hey. A nice day does not mean it has to be snowing outside or the ground with the stuff. Still, Blake was having a good day regardless. Just relaxing in the library while doing homework, and he was excited.

For an unknown artifact was being brought to the university to be studied, and Blake was selected to help study it. Granted, he would just be an intern/assistant essentially but, it would be the first step towards his dream of being an archeologist. The artifact should be delivered here soon, and Blake could not wait. So in the meantime, he is busying himself with some homework while he waits.

However, Blake would end up finishing it to his dismay. With nothing to do now, Blake thought to himself of what to do now. After looking around and back out the window. He thought of reading a book while he waited. He is at the library, after all, there is bound to be a book here that is interesting to him. So Blake put his homework away and grabbed his messenger bag. Placing it on his back, and he went out to search the bookshelves for something to read.

Sporting blue eyes with a long scar over his left eye. Along with henna tattoos on his forearms. Karim tends to wear practical but elegant clothing. Making clear what social class he belongs to. Though sometimes, he does wear more casual clothing that would betray his merchant heritage when he feels like not drawing attention to himself.

Landing on the higher average of the RAS but not quite a prodigy. That and able to afford the cost of Ersand'Enise by being from a wealthy merchant family. Karim had a private tutor teaching him magic before he enrolled and is eager to learn more. Preferring to use magnetic and chemical magics, liking the defensive abilities that come with magnetic while still putting up a solid offense. For chemical magic, he tends to favor spells that can either heal or buff his allies. Maybe not as powerful as Binding magic, but it gets the job done. While he is attempting to create original spells starting with making a magnetic spell.

B A C K G R O U N D

Born to the wealthy Nazeri merchant family in the Kingdom of Paggon. Karim, even at birth, was interesting. For he was the youngest of a set of triplets by only three minutes. This not only ensures that he had siblings to play with but can be somewhat annoying to their parents with their combined antics. However, Karim was never bothered by the fact he was the youngest, and he always had a good relationship with his siblings. Up to a point anyway.

For when Karim was twelve, it was discovered that he not only had the ability to use magic but, strong enough to be taught it. Which changed things for him as his parents managed to get him a private tutor that would teach him the ways of magic. Lessons went well enough, and he liked learning about magic, among other things. He did note how his siblings started to view him because of this since his parents began to favor him as he was the second person in the family to be able to learn magic. A feat that only his great-grandmother had. While his siblings never hated him or anything that he could gather. They did start to hang out with him less and sometimes have fights with each other over petty things. Drifting away from him.

By the time he was fourteen, his father started taking Karim with him on business trips. Which meant that he did he learn more about the world and learn some new languages. But, it never compares to him when his father would take him to trade with the Yasoi nation of Yarsoc. Karim loved traveling there and learning more about the Yasoi, and even learning their language. Though he did note how the Yasoi that his family traded with even with Yarsoc being somewhat aligned with Passon. Still were insular and closed off to them. Cutting straight to the point and rarely talking pleasantly with them. Something that Karim would ponder to why the Yasoi were like this as had learned that the Yasoi used to be more open and travel the world in his books. That and his father told him that they were becoming more and more like this in the decades since they had been trading with them. Still, it was a question that while Karim wanted an answer to, he had more pressing things to worry about.

For just a year later, during a business trip with his father that Karim learned never to be careless or rash. For despite his father's judgment, he made a reckless decision to accept new trade contact that he would personally oversee and travel with the caravan to his new trader contact. Which unknown to him was actually a trap set up by one of their rivals to kill him and anyone he was traveling with. Said trap that failed and left Karim with a long scar on his eye and the first time he people die and his father killing someone. A trip that while they made it home fine and the culprits found out. It left Karim at first hesitant to be near new people or fellow merchants before it got over it just before enrolling at the Ersand’Enise Academy of Thaumaturgy when he was sixteen. But even though he is thrilled about finally coming to this place to learn about magic and meet new people. Some part of him is still wary and watchful of people. Just in case something like the trap happens again.

M O T I V A T I O N

Karim is motivated by learning more about the world and magic. To harness his potential of a mage and to create at least one new spell before his life is over. That and sticking it to the nobles that not just them can harness and learn magic. That and blood does not mean everything. Something parents would tell him as he learned magic from his tutor. Seeing magic as somewhat as an equalizer when it comes to power since a poor commoner with magic could take on a noble mage and win. However, he does secretly fear betrayal from his fellow students and hopes that will never happen here.

Sorry about the lack of update. I know I mentioned that I was taking Christmas off, but then on boxing day I got sick. I've been in bed for several days now sick (it's not COVID, I took a test) and only today have I felt good enough to get on my computer. So I've basically had no progress on my sheet since I last posted, but once I'm done with this post I'll start working on the sheet again. Expect it either later today or earlier tomorrow.

Leo stands at 6’0’’, Leo is on the taller end of the general public, with a lean athletic build. His skin is a mocha colour and in great condition as Leo uses product on it. His eyes are a darker shade of brown than his skin, while is hair is black in colour. Leo tends to vary up his look quite a bit, trying different haircuts and levels of facial hair. Clothing wise Leo doesn’t wear anything too outlandish, mostly black, greys, and whites. He is also not a fan of wearing anything with a big logo on it. Most of his attire is meant to be comfortable and not fancy.

Leo is a bubbly individual, always seeming happy and fulfilled. This positive attitude makes it easy to be around Leo. As such Leo makes easy friends, but these friendship tend not to last. Perhaps it is a lacking of social skills, but Leo has a hard time maintaining friendships, with a lot of them just lasting when he has a class with someone. This does hint at the hidden layer beneath Leo’s bright exterior, one of uncertainty and vulnerability. Leo tends to push away these thoughts as he believes it is better to be happy. Leo seems unaware that others have the same issues that he does.

Leo is also voracious when it comes to learning new things. While the primary focus of this is film related, Leo likes to learn about others, gleaning wisdom from their experiences. This means that Leo will never turn down a chance to learn, so he is constantly taking classes, reading articles online, or trying to be around others and get to know them. This may grate on some people as he seems overly interested, wishing that he would respect their boundaries.

Soul Powers:

• Soul Whip - Leo is able to manifest his soul energy as a bright blue energy whip. The length of the whip is decided on by Leo when he summons it. Using the whip, Leo can ensnare a person or object, creating a tight hold. He can then either pull the whip back to him or pull himself to the end of the whip, effectively working like a grappling hook.
• Psychometry - If Leo focuses he can scan memories off of an object by making physical contact with it. Sometimes these memories are as simple as knowing that someone moved the object, to full on memories of how the object was used and what happened around it. The depth of the memories varies from object, with some objects lacking any recent memory. A downside to this ability is that when his hand makes contact with an object, his hand glows blue, alerting others that he is using psychometry. Leo does have the ability to turn of this power for times when it would be beneficial to not scan everything and glow blue.
• Soul Hammer - Leo can manifest a giant blue hammer. While it is massive, with the actual head of it being larger than Leo’s head, it is weightless in his hands. Due to this lack of weight, Leo is able to swing the hammer with a lot of force. These powerful hits could shatter human bones, or break down most walls. The downside to this weapon is that it gradually increases in weight as he has it out, possibly becoming even more heavy than a regular hammer of its size. But if Leo dismisses his hammer and waits a minute, the next time he summons the hammer it will be weightless again.

Skills:

Leo has an eye for composition, studying both photography and film making. He is also very knowledgeable when it comes to history, particularly film history. Besides that Leo is in good shape, is a pretty good chef, and has a nice singing voice, having been part of his church choir when he was younger.

Background:

Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Leo was the middle child of the five Wedemire children. Growing up, Leo always felt out of place as he never really connected with any of his family members. When Leo was just a toddler, his eldest brother left Jamaica to study in the US. Now with his three other remaining siblings in the country, Leo was raised around his parents’ grocery store. By the time Leo was five, he could tell any store patrons where to find dasheen, chocho, or yam at the store. Eventually Leo became so good at helping at the store that his parents decided to start paying him a small allowance, believing he would probably just use it to buy sweets.

However, Leo would use his newfound income in a different manner. Always a fan of trips to the local cinema with his family, Leo would use his first allowance to go with his older sister to the cinema to see a new movie. Leo would greatly enjoy this experience, so with his next allowance he would go see a movie. Within in a year it pretty much became that Leo would go to see every movie that came to his local cinema. Wanting to watch his favourites again, Leo would begin buying bootleg copies of certain movies from the market. As he re-watched the movies he loved, Leo began to pick up on stylistic things about them, greatly intrigued by what went into film making.

Eventually Leo’s family began to notice his love for the arts, and decided to encourage it. For his fourteenth birthday, Leo’s grandfather gave him an old camera, one he had treasured as a youth. Leo was very appreciative of his family’s support, thinking that this was the best. But things got better, as Leo’s eldest brother decided to try and help him come to the states for university. While it took some finagling, Leo’s studies in Jamaica were recognized in America. Leo immediately applied for as many film schools as he could, but didn’t really have any films he made to send over.

Most schools decided to pass on the foreign student, but Benjamin Franklin University decided to accept him after reading his entrance essay. Leo immediately packed everything up and moved to Philadelphia. When he started his studies, Leo was living in a terrible small apartment with three roommates, working at a nearby grocery store. But as he progressed with his studies he would find himself in a better situation. A few years into his studies, Leo now works part time at a local TV station, and has found a better apartment. Things were all going right for Leo, that was until he manifested soul powers.

Name: Ella Blackheart

Appearance: 5'1 she is slightly muscular but is weak. Has scars over her body from a tough childhood. Her body is slightly curved she is skinny but she can be an amazing girl her hair is blond but when in the sun the tips appear to turn golden blond. Her eyes are a light brown and when in sun they appear to have golden flexes in them.
Nationality: American, French, and German

Personality: Ella is very passionate about many things, and especially so with the people she loves. When she cares for someone, she cares for them deeply and has experienced enough loss in her life to never want to feel it again. Ella's passionate nature also often extends to her interests, including books, sweets, and music. Ella can often be called rude or even evil, but she obviously loves her homeland and friends very much.
Ella feels things both strongly and deeply. While she is often teasing, witty, and carefree when she is happy, Ella's most immediate reaction when angry or sad is to channel her darker emotions into a barely-contained rage or killing calm. This gets her into trouble more often than not,
Ella also has a strong moral compass. Though she often tries to suppress the memories of her tumultuous past, her experiences have shaped her into the woman she is, and that is a woman who does not tolerate injustices.

Soul Powers: A strong survival instinct, can make soul energy explosions but very limited, making soul weapons, and focusing her soul power to her hands and shooting them out.

Skills: Self Management- rarely likes to have help, Able to think through tough situations, Resilient, Can be a good leader but doesn't show it, and able to help others and work in groups although rare.

Background: Ella's past is pretty rough. Growing up as a kid on multiple occasions she was bullied and harmed. Her own mother and father would abuse her and call her "it" instead of treating her like a human for in her world anything other than a human was a disgrace. She does not look to her mom and dad as her parents for she ran away at 14 her brother along with her but he left her to die.

Relationships: Ella's family abandoned her, she has no family and no friends.

Enrollment in the academy: After dropping out of high school Ella thought she would be left out of the academy but after taking night school, and scoring high on her SATs and Keystones the academy gave her a scholarship. She didn't know what to expect or what to do but she excepted the offer even though she knew she couldn't afford it not the supplies or the clothes. So when her ex-friend gave her money she used it to get into the academy.

Can you let me know what aspects of telekinesis won’t work so I can adjust?
If I can expel a a bullet of soul force to injure someone can I not manipulate it to effect an object or person?

Is it a directional thing? Once leaving the source or body there is no control?
In that case could I make a spectral whip/tentacle?

I realise it was vague and quite diverse that’s why I chose fewer abilities.
As for exorcist I just wanted to be a tad better at it. I know everyone’s got it.

You should have added a description to your abilities rather then just say the name of it to explain how it was soul based if that is the case.

It depends on how you want the ability to work. Yes you can make a spectral whip/tentacle

If you wanted to make a better version of exorcist then explain how it is better.
