Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

roleplayerguild.com/posts/5… If anyone's up for fighting some kaiju, why not try out my new RP, Godzilla: YATAGARUSU?

@UndeadSpartan: Onmyouji are pretty awesome!
Glad to see some interest already!
The Town of Minazawa.

A fairly peaceful place, Minazawa is located near central Japan and is considered to be a perfectly ordinary town. Well... with a few exceptions. If one thing about Minazawa could be thought of as anything other than ordinary, then that must be the plethora of urban legends. Hauntings, youkai sightings, all kinds of things are nearly constantly reported in Minazawa. In this otherwise ordinary town, it seems as if the residents want to spice things up with all kinds of myths. From rumors of Hanako-san haunting every single bathroom in every single building, to claims that a fox spirit haunts the abandoned shrine at the edge of town, to the famed myth of the beautiful lady vampire that visits the richest district of Minazawa every year, there's no end to the different supernatural rumors circulating throughout the town's residents.

Kuchisake-onna. Hanako of the Toilet. Teke-teke. Youkai. Ghosts. Phantoms. Onmyouji. For whatever reason, Minazawa has become hotbed for sightings of the uncommon. No-one knows why. To the citizens of Minazawa, it seems to be a complete and utter mystery without a single clue. The Phantom Mansion, the oni in the forest, it all appears to be a strange and total mystery. For this reason, some people have begun to call Minazawa the 'Midnight Illusion Town' due to its sheer density of urban legends and sightings of the supernatural.

Of course, most of the people of Minazawa don't take this seriously. Rather, there's a sort of fun to it, the rumor that such things could exist, that spices up everyday life. 'Investigation clubs' have sprung up of all sorts, in order to get to the bottom of mysteries like the vanishing alleyway or the hidden secret district that only appears once a week. Some legitimately believe that there's something supernatural afoot in the town, but most of the residents feel that it's simply a way to have fun.

It's in this regard that the people of Minazawa are wrong.

Hauntings, youkai, vampires, phantoms, wielders of magic... It's all real. All of it. A secret second layer of the world, beneath the common world of modern man.

And soon, the common world of modern man and the supernatural layer beneath it will intersect.

So, this is a new attempt at an RP set in my urban fantasy setting! For some background, here's some information I have recorded on the setting as a whole. For a quick primer on things likely to appear in the RP...

  • Magi: Capable of magic, invoked by spells and symbols, sometimes in conjunction with one another. Magical prowess is passed through bloodlines, some families having more or less mana(and higher or lower quality mana) then others. Magi will have an affinity, which can range from things like fire to gravity to numbers. Affinities(which are also passed through bloodlines) are not limited to the affinity itself, but also includes things that are conceptually linked to it. For example, a mage with an affinity for fire would also excel at spells involving "consumption", "ignition", and "destruction". Magi can preform spells outside their affinity, though it is more difficult to learn. Affinities cannot be for anything entirely man-made. Playable!
    • Note: The most powerful mage(in terms of raw power) in this setting has an affinity for mana. They will not be appearing in this RP, and mana as an affinity is strictly off-limits. Other affinities that are off limits include Death, a totally unique affinity also claimed in this setting and absolutely broken for the purposes of this RP.
  • Onmyouji: Magical practioners utilizing onmyodo as opposed to western methods of magic. They are similar(magic is passed through bloodlines, they have the same affinities), yet their methods are fundamentally different. Effectively they use the same magic, but with different methods. Onmyouji use ofuda to cast spells, which can be applied to objects or even bodies for a variety of effects. Onmyouji are also adept at preforming exorcisms. Playable!
    • Magic Traits: Some magi and onmyouji families possess a special "magic trait", an inherent magical ability connected to their affinity. These are quite uncommon, but they still exist. They require no spellcasting, and usually give some edge in ability. The magic trait "Illusion Break", for example, passively destroys illusions as the mage or onmyouji draws close to them. It also enables them to see through illusions.
  • Youkai: The various supernatural beings native to the country of Japan. There are a fair number of their kind located in Minazawa City. These days, many kinds of youkai have a humanoid appearance, but some do not. There are many that can coexist with humanity, but there are also many that are dangerous creatures that must be hunted. The more human-like youkai can crossbreed with humans. Playable!

As for the main thrust of this RP, we'll be various people living within the town of Minazawa, who for varying reasons begin to associate with one another. As a result, they begin to work together in resolving the supernatural incidents that befall the town, some of which may be far more interconnected then it seems...

Additionally, @RolePlayerRoxas will be serving as my co-GM for this RP!

  • Brief Backstory:
While it could not be said that the dolls didn't put up a fight, their limbs lashing out on chains as they hurled their bodies towards their opponents, it was evident that without the element of total surprise in their advantage they were significantly less threatening. Soon enough, the last of the dolls had fallen, twitching as its cracked metallic frame split open.

Indeed, the most disturbing feature of the automatons was that they were pouring quite real blood from their wounds onto the concrete. That wasn't all, however. Through the larger injuries in the chest cavity of one of the dolls, something fleshy could be seen. Closer inspection would reveal that it appeared to be a single internal organ inside of it, attached by a series of red-colored wires. It was a kidney.

@PaulHaynek: I'd like to clarify it's not just a log, it's a massive, thick tree that's currently on fire. ^^;
Konpaku Youmu

The meat sizzled in the pan.

It would time for dinner.

The girl currently checking to ensure the meat was well on its way to being properly cooked was quite petite, tiny even, with silvery hair and blue eyes. Her skin was quite pale as well. Over her usual clothing she wore an apron, and behind her drifted a strange, teardrop-shaped translucent cloud.

Konpaku Youmu took a deep breath as she began to move the meat off of the pan with a pair of tongs. She was trying something a little new tonight, hopefully with good results. Given Yuyuko's gluttonous habits, it wasn't exactly difficult to be hopeful. As long as it tasted good, Yuyuko was seemingly quite willing to try anything. It was hardly the first time Youmu had done this, as well. The diminutive silvery-haired girl had cooked for her mistress time and time again

"... Hm," she looked thoughtful for a moment. "Yuyuko-sama might like more of that... right."

Nodding to herself, turning away from the sizzling meat, comfortable that it wouldn't burn, Youmu began to head over to the cupboards... but then something caught her eye, stopping her dead in her tracks.

A door. A door that had never been there before. It wasn't as if unusual or surprising things were something uncommon, but Youmu couldn't recall any occasion where a door spontaneously appeared from no-where. Warily, she grasped her sheath katana, Roukanken, from a nearby table...

And then the timer went off.

"Ah!"

Dinner had to be handled first!

But after both Youmu and Yuyuko had eaten...

The small, pale half phantom returned to the door. She'd informed Yuyuko-sama, who had simply told her to go inspect it. Approaching it, Youmu placed one small hand against it. It didn't feel abnormal, or anything of the sort.

After a short pause, and a deep breath, Youmu made her decision.

If this was some sort of threat, she would face it head-on as Saigyouji Yuyuko's retainer.

Hand on Roukanken's hilt, she pulled the door open.

... Beyond was something difficult to understand. A... some sort of... city? But it didn't appear to be any sort of settlement Youmu had ever seen or heard of. No, it was a ruin. Everything was run-down and destroyed. What could it possibly have been? For a few moments, blue eyes narrowed, Youmu peered through the doorway...

At this point, there was only one thing that could be done.

The half-phantom stepped through it.

It was... considerably desolate here. Unlike Gensokyo's landscape, for certain. Proceeding forward, eyes peeled for even the slightest sign of a threat, Youmu paused once more to glance over her shoulder.

She was immediately confused to see she had seemingly exited another worn building, with a huge sign exhibiting an animated version of herself and Yuyuko, standing out in front of Hakugyokurou.

"... I... what?"
Mihama Nanako

Far too much of a liability...

That sure was right, wasn't it? She hadn't done much of anything here. All she'd done was slow Meltryllis down... she'd really just screwed everything up. She'd barely been able to defend herself at all.

Those poor construction workers... why had something like this even happened in the first place? What were those weird shadow facsimiles of Servants...? It had been so horrible.

Slowly, Nanako raised to her feet. She nearly stumbled and fell over once more, barely managing to catch herself. All she did, rather then say anything, was nod slowly. There wasn't much that she could say, after all, was there?

All she could really do was go home, just as she had been told.

... Maybe she could sleep...

Saber - Benienma

The diminutive girl's geta clacked as she landed on the pavement.

Her first, immediate course of action was to ensure that the civilians were safe. How cruel... to put their lives in danger simply to secure an escape! Such an action was absolutely impossible to justify, had Benienma been unable to outpace the fire escape's fall... there was no telling how many of the bystanders would have perished from its fall. Threatening their lives simply as a distraction was completely unacceptable.

Thankfully, the enma's quick actions had paid off. Aside from some minor scraps and bruises from the falling fragments of the fire escape, the civilians were almost entirely unharmed.

"Worry not," she assured them, as many began to rise to their feet, some swiftly departing the scene, "Benienma will apprehend the culprit!"

With that, Benienma was off. The wind whipped past the sword-wielding girl as she erupted through the streets, feet quickly leaving the ground. Without even needing her command, her sparrows swiftly spread out from her location, filtering out above the nearby alleyways in order to do their best to discover the criminal's location.

Hijikata Toshizo. The man who had died in battle, dedicated to the Shinsengumi in the end. Was it this obsession that had caused him to be summoned as Berserker?

The reason, in the end, did not matter at the moment.

What mattered was that he was stopped, before anyone else could be placed in danger.

... There. The trail of blood left behind by the Berserker's injuries.

Benienma slowed, coming to a halt near an alleyway. This is where the trail lead. Soon enough, her platform geta met the concrete once more, one hand still remaining on her blade.

"... Hijikata Toshizo," she began as she entered the alleyway, "You are under arrest dechi. Surrender immediately."

There he stood. Both due to what she knew of the man, and due to his nature as a Berserker, Benienma doubted he would obey. But she had to give him the final opportunity.

Her eyes travelled to the boy. She had heard enough.

"Stay back, and do not worry," she began, addressing him now, "I heard enough to know that this situation is not your doing dechi."

The Hospital

"... Draggin' the perp to the slammer...?" Kiara tilted her head slightly, one hand to her cheek. Then, in spite of herself, she chuckled slightly. "You certainly have a way with words, Kishinami-san."

The moment of levity soon passed, as Kiara let out another sigh.

"Even so... I hope it wasn't anyone close to her," the nun said, after a few moments, eyes somewhat downcast, "Saikawa-san doesn't need that kind of pain... no-one does, but there's already a lot..."

She paused for a moment, and then took a deep breath.

"If there's anything you want to know, anything at all, I'll do whatever I can to help. For Saikawa-san's sake."

The Arena

The moment the mana-lined blade collided with Bradamante's spear, the paladin was sent hurtling backwards, feet skidding across the ground. Lancelot's agility and skill were incredible. Truly, he was a legendary knight, just as Bradamante had thought! But she had to try and contain herself. She had to give such a powerful and skilled legend every ounce of her strength. It was what he deserved!

Thrusting her star-shaped shield forward, she took a deep breath before igniting magical energy across her spear. Using that as a propellant, she suddenly rocketed forward with a sound like a gunshot, intending to use her shield to deflect any incoming attack and then following up with a thrust from her spear!

@Raineh Daze
I'll be getting a post up relatively soon, ideally today or tomorrow.
@Ammokkx: Again, I'm compeletely willing to work with you. Like, you want to pick out an NPC out of the ones I have prepped to interact with I can do that, I just couldn't justify them hanging around the shrine is all. ^^;
