Allison Revel

Allison's face was hot, the strap of Angel's guitar rubbed against her chest as she walked, and there was an undeniable dampness between her legs. She kept her focus on the cage she held in front of her, and the bird within it. It was all she could do to keep herself from being overwhelmed, though it was hard to consider her current state as anything other than overwhelming. Allison's mind fluttered between various fantasies, unwilling to settle on the crushing reality that the aberration desperately wanted a solution to. Her girlfriend was missing, possibly dead... No. Angelique was alive, she had to be.

The thought was overrun by Allison's stigma once more, though she was able to pull away from it for a moment when she came to the end of the tunnel, Sander's warning hitting her ears. Had the enemy already gotten to their evacuation point? If so... maybe they had Angel. That was, if she was alive, and if she was definitely captured. Unlikely, but the idea of it was enough. Allison could sate her stigma and save Angel. Perfect.

Allison's mind quickly fell back into it's depravity as she found her way up into the lighthouse. She took herself away from the rest of the group as quickly as she could, watching everyone else from a short distance. Hazel stepped outside without hesitation. Sander and Christmas huddled into a conversation that seemed more intimate than Allison had expected out of the two boys. She tore her gaze away as quickly as she could, though she did find herself glancing back a few times. Her eyes floated to Emma and Marcus heading to the top of the lighthouse with Kusari calling after them, Chris leaving, Zoe dashing outside, and Sophia just sort of standing around. A few moments later, her gaze fell upon Ernest, with Sander getting his fill of blood before joining the others to face a possible enemy. Allison had half a mind to join them. It would've been a bit more than half, but she was too busy considering the various uses for the guitar that still hung from her back, among other things.

Allison wandered over to where Sophia was standing, and awkwardly stretched out her arms, handing the bird cage to the young girl. She was the only person Allison could think to pass Pav on to, even if it would only be for a short while. She couldn't exactly trust Ernest, and Sophia looked like she could use some company anyway.

"Hey, Sophia, do you mind watching Pav for a bit?" She sounded awkward, her face was flushed to a concerning degree, and she seemed much too anxious for someone who was asking someone to hold onto a bird for a bit. Allison didn't take no for an answer, and didn't even give the girl time to respond. She left the bird with Sophia, and quickly removed the guitar and left that nearby as well before turning and making a beeline for the exit. Allison hurried herself out after Zoe, and Sander. Her stigma was waiting to be sated.

Wind and rain seemed to pick up in speed as the group of Aberrations approached the lighthouse. Having lost their main tracker in the scuffle with Zhang’s soldiers, they were operating more blindly than Nathaniel preferred. Raindrops splattered against an invisible sphere around the group and whisked away, a small benefit of his power that Nathaniel had been forced to use once visibility became too impaired with the rushing weather. The decision to attack when weather forecasts predicted dangerous conditions had been entirely intentional, the group operating under the assumption that they would be more comfortable in harsh conditions that most in their way. They simply hadn’t accounted for the excess of soldiers at the usually unguarded estate and the unpredictability of otherwise β€œharmless” powers from the estate’s servants.

A familiar flash of light in the distance, bright enough to mimic daylight, and Nathaniel’s jaw tensed as he turned to look, instinctively. The maid girl was alive after all. Even from that distance, the light left spots in his eyes, its brightness too muchβ€”too uncontrolled. He took a moment to blink it away, as did the rest of the group, but there was no going back to check on the state of their fellow comrades. They had to leave.

Small mistakes and inevitable ones in their line of workβ€”predicting the future was impossible without a proper seer in their midst and for all his connections the Amigos’ leader had yet to procure an effective psychic. The disaster at Washington had been their cue to move in, while the rest of the world busied itself trying to repair one of the strongest, and now fallen, bastions of humanity. The job should have proceeded easily, but if there was one thing Nathaniel had learned it was that even weaklings could survive with a bit of luck and miracles.

But luck was also on their side that day. He glanced at the Aberration girl’s missing legs and mutilated throat, her body swinging like a broken rag doll with every step of Rhohan’s beastly form. Too easy. Too lucky. It set him on edge and the orb hovering in his hand pulsated faster in anticipation of something going wrong. Anything. Maybe the sky would fall on them next, or one of Dreamcatcher’s monsters would appear to block their path.

The group neared the pier quickly, Nathaniel’s tension seeping into the pace of his walk, turning into more of a run. The sooner they boarded and left, the better, and if the others couldn’t make it back in time, that was their problem to deal with. To their left, dawn lingered beyond the horizon, the morning’s shades still hued in navy and the muted darkness of an overcast sky.

β€œWait,” Thi’s voice called out, stopping the group instantly, their quick response a product of years living on high-alert. β€œThere is someone. Not ours.” She pointed into the distance, towards the lighthouse entrance, eyes sparking purple and black light as her body’s modifications adjusted her vision.β€œFourβ€”no, fiveβ€”I think.”

And the Amigos had always been known for tearing through anything that stood in their way.

β€œKill them. Get to the boat. Anyone who gets left behind stays behind.”

Rhohan moved first, throwing the disabled Angel aside, letting the girl roll onto her stomach. The shadow monster dashed towards the direction of the lighthouse door, moving far too swiftly for his size. In the howling storm and darkness his approach was almost impossible to detect. In his wake a sandstorm raged, propelled by the powers of another mage while strange, humanoid trees bent and twisted out of the earth before marching along in the depths of the whirling sands. They stood five meters tall and lumbered forward on sturdy trunks of legs, more forming by the second as they followed the dark beast’s hunched back. Rhohan’s form was shifting away from the relatively compact form that had carried Angel thus far, arms and legs molding into thicker, heavier masses, propelling the demon forward with blinding speed.

As the battle approached the students in the distance, Nathaniel remained back with Thi, eyeing the limp body of the captured girl.

β€œThi, remove as much of her as possible. She needs to be lighter.”

β€œI can remove several organsβ€”they are the heaviest parts after the muscles.”

β€œSure.”

The surgeon stooped down instantly, hands no longer human as modified bones and augmentations tore through her skin, ready to operate instantly. A finger extended on over ten metallic joints humming with purple lights and deftly flicked open the woman’s briefcase, retrieving the chain of instruments. She took most of the twisted, unusual contraptions, fastening them to her fingers with extra lines of tendons and muscles that detached and reattached at all the right points, other hand already tearing cleanly through the remainders of Angel’s legs, slicing off the thighs at the hip juncture with an large oscillating saw, its thin purple line connecting back to the main equipment chain. Rapid movements of the other hand punctured the girl’s back and severed key spinal nerves to prevent Angel’s body from squirming. The new amputations were cauterized.

Then went her arms, severed at the shoulders.

A malformed, mechanized hand with enough instruments attached to look like an oversized Swiss army knife flipped the torso over, tearing away clothes and plunging into the stomach, the large intestine, a kidney, and clawing out large amounts of the girl’s fat. The end product, after a mere minute, was a steaming mess of organs cast aside and stitches all along the now significantly flatter torso, with a stoma and metallic tubing leading out from Angel’s colon. The dissected body sparked black and purple lines of light along sutures and modified organs and Thi took a moment to consider what else to remove. Hair was heavy. As were breasts.

Those, too, were left behind and the result was a borderline corpse stripped almost entirely of β€œexcess.” At least, whatever excess Thi could take away at that moment without immediately endangering the captive’s life. There would be time to remove more if they returned to their base.

β€œIs this light enough?” she asked Nathaniel, hand slowly reshaping back into something vaguely human.

He tested it, lifting the girl with his telekinesis.

β€œLight enough.” A glance at the African-American girl behind him as she adjusted her ponytail, looking entirely unfazed by the rapid surgery not two feet away from her. β€œOrla, wall. To the docks.”

She was still tying up her hair as a 20-meter wall rose up in front of them, cutting the group off from Rhohan and giving them cover all along the shoreline, up to the docks and ferry itself. Nathaniel moved first, keeping a safe distance between himself and the wall, but using it as cover and impediment both while they made their way to the ferry. Robert, the boy who had heated Thi’s saw earlier, walked with his fingertips touching the blockage, heating the compacted sand and dirt until water evaporated on contact and the wall itself was enveloped in a heavy cloud of steam.

Within the lighthouse, the staff that had come with the students followed the foolhardy ones outside, several of the maids attempting to usher them quickly towards the ferry when the wall rose and knocked one of the girls down beside Sander. She looked at the towering creation of densely packed sand, eyes wide, before scrambling to her feet and turning to the nearest students, the other six members of the mansion staff already trying to shield them from whatever was coming.

”Get back inside, hurry!”

High above, an injured Arbiter leaned against the enclosed space on the second highest floor of the lighthouse, resting against the wall while his injured arm trickled blood from several thin, shallow cuts. Bruises ran along his ribs and limbs, marring the tan skin there and throbbing painfully with every motion of the young man’s wiry muscles. An angry scrape crossed his brow, near the hairline of messy, layered auburn. He looked the athletic typeβ€”a runner or a swimmer, by the svelte frame, and his pale, green eyes narrowed at the sounds of approaching footsteps. He placed a hand against the wall, ready to turn it into cement dust or sludge to block off the stairs, but stopping at the sound of voices. Teenage voices. Young. Different from the cutthroat sounds of commands and ruthless orders.

Against his better judgment, the mage waited, though the wall rippled dangerously, ready to surge inward like water the moment they seemed hostile.

Having come out of the door tensed and ready, the oncoming demon, sandstorm and group of angry trees wasn't really that hard to spot, even in the rain and wind. The massive wall sizzling with every rain drop falling upon it did surprise her however. It was blocking the way to the boat.

The wall, the group of demon and trees; both of them was blocking the way to the boat.

One she had orders to go to.

"Engaging enemy."

Her upper half shimmered to almost invisibility, as she projected a large armored simulacrum of her upper half in front of her. Feeling confident her projection will protect her from anything in front, the large projection shielded its face with the left hand, as the right swept a large mace towards the front, with enough range to catch the wall in its attack.

Callan silently watched the exchange leading up to Siena and Brent's disappearance with rising unease. As if Padma's death or Savannah's accident weren't reason enough-- Callan had long since decided that a leadership role was well beyond her. Turns out matters of life and death and magic are a bit different from ball games after all. Eventually she'd get there, but for now it was best to follow. Even so, she felt strongly that leaving the mansion was the wrong thing to do. Safer maybe... but wrong. At least for her.

It was almost like D.C. all over again. Angel, Gregory, and the missing staff member weren't the only innocent ones out there in danger, were they? The Amigos weren't exactly familiar to her, but what did it matter? Hadn't there been enough death and destruction already? Evil mages, wild monsters-- what was the difference? Aside from a sense of human decency, maybe. But if she couldn't stop either, then what good was she anyway?

Mistakes of her classmates aside, mages attacking mages was only slightly less unforgivable than mages deliberatly attacking innocent civilians. Especially when those being attacked were only trying to help those who couldn't help themselves. Even with the small role she herself played, the others had managed to save several lives at the captial. So why were they being targeted? Who could possibly be upset about that? They were heroes! And this... this was a gross abuse of power. One she'd been far too lenient about in Wisford. Surely the Precursors would never back down from a fight like this. Probably wouldn't hesitate either....

Tying her hair up as Zoe proceeded to grill Ernie and Marcus about the missing pair, it was obvious that convincing the others to stay was out of the question. With the entrance blocked off and the words being exchanged, it seemed the odds were as much against her as they had been for Chris, who hadn't even been allowed to teleport with Siena for thier impromptu scouting mission. Though perhaps there was further reasoning for that -- holing herself up in her room hadn't granted her much as far as gossip went. Not that she was very interested anyway.

Then again, there did seem to be a strange tension between Siena and Marcus just now. Or had she just imagined it? He barely tried to stop her from leaving at all and somehow that struck her as odd. Reading people had never been her forte, but despite her isolation, she did reserve hope that the others were growing closer together rather than further apart. Callan hoped they knew that she was there for them at least. In whatever ways she could be without risking another Misery mishap.

Being rushed down the corridor, the extra endurance her ability granted made the run far less of a challenge. She couldn't help but try and steal several glances back down the hallway, struggling to see past the assemblage of maids and butlers tailing them. Siena's ability was strong. And Brent was clever. They'd be alright, wouldn't they?

The state of the lighthouse and the precarious looking ferry outside was foreboding at best. The ocean seemed angry... perhaps unhappy with the decision to flee. The watery footsteps and drops of blood were unsettling as well, but not as much as Sander's assessment.

β€œSomeone’s out there. There’s one person ahead, too.”

She moved towards a nearby window and squinted out into the darkness. It was nearly impossible to make anything out. A commotion erupted between Zoe and Marcus, briefly drawing her attention. She stifled a sigh, shaking her head irritably when she heard her name mentioned. She moved to say something, feeling somehow obligated on account of their agreement, but decided against it. If anyone was capable of fighting their own battles, it was definitely Zoe. In fact, she felt a sparce bit of heated tension rise to her cheeks at the thought of what else may have been said about her while she was hiding away.

Turning back to the window, she tried to refocus, carefully summoning her hammer. She silently kept tabs on as many conversations going on behind her as she could. At least a few people seemed to be on the same page. She quietly noted those who had chosen to head outside.

An unpleasant uncertainty was brewing angrily in her gut. Despite her lack of experience, she'd somehow felt so much more prepared for all the other fights. Distinct lack of soldiers and several teammates aside, she knew it was because of Misery. Even with their terrible track record, she'd managed to get by on the idea that they'd soon be back at USARILN, where she would get a chance to properly train before their next confrontation. And, of course, there was Hazel-- whom nobody seemed very concerned about as she wondered freely. She tightened her grip on the hammer, and whatever semblance of control over this situation she felt she or anyone could possibly have along with it.

Even if she wanted to, she had no orders to give. Nor any to take. Should she talk to someone? Should she follow Sander and the others? Her confidence was dwindling with each passing second, but she didn't know what else to do but wait. Wait and pray.

Perhaps in vain. It began as a flicker of movement, almost dismissible were it not for Sander's warning.

"Incoming!" Callan shouted, rushing from the window to the doorway, arms tense as they bore the weight of her hammer. "Nobody leave!" she shouted to the others inside, despite herself.

She came to an abrupt stop beside Sander outside, eyes widening at the sight of black and white clad arbiters blocking their path.

β€œThere is someone. Not ours.”

Questions once more began to quickly run inside AngΓ©lique’s mind as she heard the update on their situation, to occupy her head away from the pain, and provide what little means to fight against the pain and the black veil settling into her sight. Hopeful thoughts were wondering if those unknown folks were her classmates coming to rescue her. Everyone had dealt with Rogues and much more gigantic monster before, surely they would be alright against these criminals?

Angel was shaken off from her hopeful thoughts when she was tossed aside by the shadowy creature. Her vision flashed with pain and another muted agonizing gasp was released from her mouth as Angel’s brutal landing on the rocky beach did no good onto her mangled arms and sawed-off legs. But that was nothing compared to what was coming next.

Just as she was spitting a mouthful of sand, the crippled Voice Mage heard the conversation that would strike fear into the deepest parts of her soul. She looked as the psychopath surgeon approached. Trembling, Angel’s body tried squirming uselessly away, her head shaking negatively from side to side while her lips formed muted words, pleading.

No more…

But she was ignored, as always. With teary eyes, her legs were being sawed-off once more, but this going up to her hip. This time, she felt it: the horrible sensation of the saw’s teeth plunging into her skin and eating away at her flesh, her muscles, her nerves and even through the bone. The pain was so overwhelming, AngΓ©lique was just about to black when suddenly, another jolt of pain came from her back and then everything faded away.

Did she died? Her eyes were open, she could still see the beach’s sand and rocks just beneath her head, but she felt nothing. There was this throbbing aching in her head that she had felt when she woke up, but the pain, while faint, seemed to have vanished from her body. The ex-rockstar wasn’t sure if she should be relieved to finally feel no pain, or if she should be alarmed of her current state of being. At first, she wasn’t even aware her arms were soon to join her legs into the discarded pile.

Enough…

She’d soon find out however that she was well alive, and the brutal surgeon woman named β€œThi” wasn’t even halfway done with her yet. With horror etched into her sand-ridden face, AngΓ©lique witnessed her whole body being butchered. Even if she felt nothing, she definitively β€œfelt” that hand working inside her body and removing whatever was needed. From gasps of discomfort to agonizing sighs, AngΓ©lique went through all the noises a muted person with someone playing with their organs could make.

She was literally opened and gutted like an animal. Even her hair, that she had never cut once in her life and had a certain pride in was discarded into the pile of what had been deemed β€œunnecessary” entrails.

Casting one last look at her surroundings, the whole ordeal had left such a mess on the beach. Her β€œcorpse” was so bloody, a sickening (had she a stomach left) pile of discarded organs, her limbs tossed aside like vulgar broken Barbie pieces and a mixture of bloody flesh mounds, wet sand and black hair was left somewhere on the ground as well.

There was no dignity left in this naked corpse-like torso of AngΓ©lique Lachance. Barely a hint of feeling human. She felt like an animal that had went through the slaughterhouse. No, it was worse than that. At least animals had the decency of dying while being butchered up. Angel had been kept alive for an obscure reason that her brain had now stopped thinking about.

She was less than an animal.

Pitiful…

She was a Subnatural.

Trash…

Her world really had become darker.

Welcome to the real world.

Kusari blinked and squinted her eyes at the scene outside a lighthouse window. She couldn't see as well as she wanted with the storm already, but now sand was rampaging around too. Even still, she was able to make out the raised wall in the distance, along with what looked like a blurry black figure with a small army of... trees? Kusari scrambled to a corner of the room and grabbed the axe she'd brought with her. She didn't give herself time to think about the pain she was about to inflict upon herself, she simply swung.

The sharp edge of the axe sliced into her arm just below her shoulder. She grit her teeth and swung again, her thin pale arm falling to the floor. She flopped onto her backside and took the axe to her right leg as her left arm began to reform, cutting just below her hip. So much blood, her fake school uniform was soiled in red. Oh well, she had more. Her left arm had formed by now, she took her all too familiar claws and sliced her right arm off. She was about to take off her left leg when she looked at her cuff. She looked back to one of the maids.

"I need to take this off, don't freak out, alright!?" She said more aggressively than intended, but to be fair she was also in far more pain than intended. Off went her left leg as well, and as soon as it was the cuff's alarm went off. She hoped someone could turn the damn thing off, but she didn't think anyone was in a position to do that at the moment. She clumsily shoved the cuff into her pocket and ran outside to Callan once her other leg had formed. She choose for all of her limbs to have claws, and it was the first time she'd done so. Unlike the other times she had monstrous limbs she was balanced and felt she could move much easier.

"I can't just sit here, they're blocking our way out, if we just wait we'll be like fish in a barrel. We've got no choice but to fight!" Kusari vehemently disagreed with Callan's idea of staying inside. It wasn't as if the lighthouse was a fort or castle, they were effectively backing themselves into a corner by staying inside. Kusari braced herself for combat, insisting to herself that she wouldn't let anything past her. They had to break through and make a path for the ferry.

Before he committed to a transformation, Chris took off his shirt and rolled it up into a form of gag to put in his mouth. The rain that fell upon his bare skin was cold and bitter; Of course, that was the least of concern to his discomfort. With the cloth in his mouth to suppress his screams, Chris fell to the stone floor of the cliff as his body slowly turned into black goop. Blackened, tar-like flesh dripped and pooled into the crevice he was in. With his strength melting away it became harder to hold onto the cloth with his dissolving teeth and muscles.

His pants fell over the pool and within a minute and a half of time his body had broken down completely; Flesh liquified, bones crumbled, and vital organs that were floating above the bubbling mess of tar that barely mingled with the water dripping onto it. The drops of water that mixed with the puddle soon began to steam as the puddle's temperature began to rise rapidly. The skeletal fragments within the liquid began to rise just as the heat did, remolding and growing in size as it rapidly grew into the frame of the primordial beast that slept within Chris. The fire that coiled around the dragon skeleton seemed to shape it as if it were a solid force that pushed it along like clay. The flames soon became submerged by the tar that began to connect and tether around the newly shaped bones in sinewy strands and seeping masses. The vital organs, no longer resembling that of a human's, floated into their appropriate place before the newly growing tissue and muscle began to form within and around the frame. Blood vessels were traced over as the sharp and keeled black scales grew over the skin.

The stone crevice crumbled away from the 20 foot beast that formed from within. Chris's wings spread outward as he released a guttural roar, a war-cry of pride. His eyes could see the trees slowly lumbering towards the lighthouse, and behind them there seemed to be some kind of wall that formed. Were they trying to block them off from the boat? With a brief scan of his heat vision he could see that the wall was giving off a great deal of heat, but otherwise he couldn't see any trace of any actual human...Was this some kind of test or were they trying to slow them down?

With Hazel having already prepared her powers, Chris decided to charge head on. The dragon dashed forward in a short gallop before he took off into the air. He slowly curved his direction, dipping to the farthest end of the line of animate trees that he could tell were alive. With his throat and belly glowing a brilliant crimson, Chris unleashed his flames; Spraying down the tree monsters as he curved across them to incinerate as much as he could in a row before his breathe ran dry.

It hadn't taken long for the battlefield to descend into chaos. The approaching creatures appeared intimidating to say the least, though that seemingly excited her more than causing any worry. For better or worse, a good fight was never something she'd shy away from - though they didn't appear particularly human, which was disappointing. From her position, taking cover within the trees, Zoe was fairly confident she could get a decent attack off if she just--

Her eyes widened as a wave of heat washed over her, fire lighting up the trees. Darting backwards and away from the vegetation, she found herself out in the open once more. Which was a far more vulnerable position, and basically screwed over her chances of killing anyone here without being completely murdered. Despite that, staying hidden in the plant life really wasn't an option anymore - even with the rain cooling things down slightly, she couldn't handle that kind of heat for long. A glance upwards confirmed Chris was responsible, and that it was one of her own teammates was irritating. Not like she could take it out on him even if he wasn't flying. Slightly singed, the expression on her face was anything but happy as she tried to prioritise.

Shadow creature's handled. Or maybe not, but getting in between that fight's participants was just asking to get reduced to a smear on the ground. She didn't even know if she'd be able to do anything about it if she tried. Trees are burning - Chris can probably finish them off.

Which left one more point of interest. The wall.

Or more specifically, the hole that Hazel had left behind. While touching it wouldn't be a good idea, Zoe was fairly confident she could make it through that part unscathed. The problem with that one was they had no idea who, or what, was waiting on the other side. But if they wanted to reach the boat, there wasn't much choice in the matter. Someone would have to go through. She glanced back at the others who'd made their way outside.

Whoever went through first was gonna take a hell of a hit. And if it wasn't her, it could be one of them.

They don't deserve that.

A twisted, self-loathing sort of resolve. She smiled, out of place as it was with her thoughts. Or maybe it was incredibly appropriate - who could say? Clenching then unclenching a fist at her side, she relaxed. This was... fine, right? It just made sense for someone to go, and she kinda deserved what was coming to her.

But it'd mean nothing if they didn't heed whatever warning she could provide. Glancing toward the others, Zoe spoke quickly.

"I'm going through the wall. Have to find out what we're up against so you guys can plan." 'You guys'. Because despite her casual tone, her entirely out-of-place grin, on some level Zoe knew this wasn't likely to end well. "Don't follow me, alright?" As she finished speaking, she turned to look at the wall, confident she could sprint through fast enough to reach the gap without a problem.

Kusari raised an arm to her face as Chris burned the area in front of them. It looked like his form had changed once again, but she didn't linger on the thought. The attack was a bit too danger close, but at least it should be effective against the trees. Her ears perked as she heard Zoe announce her brilliant plan. That was sarcasm of course, her plan was literally suicide. "Like hell you're going over there alone!" Kusari yelled at her like a child running in a grocery store. Hazel had likely given them a way past the wall, but that didn't mean Zoe could just charge in. "We need to take care of that thing first, or we won't have a way out of here." She said, pointing towards the shadowy monster of a man.

"We also need to get to the boat, or we still won't have a way out of here, unless you think the Amigos are here to give us a ride." Zoe didn't take kindly to being yelled at, especially in this kind of situation, and her voice was sharp. "Besides, even if I get it in range, there's every chance I won't be able to affect that thing." She wouldn't if the last shadow creature she'd encountered was anything to go by, anyway.

Whatever the reasoning, debating this felt like a waste of time. Shaking her head, Zoe turned back to watching for a gap in the fighting, pointedly ignoring Kusari.

Kusari grit her teeth and fought off the desire to say something she really meant to Zoe. "What happened to you being the one that's only good at killing things? All of a sudden you're our scout? If anyone should be the first through there it should be me. I can move more quickly than you and I'll be fine if I'm attacked."

"Can't kill 'em from this side of the wall, and you're able to die too." The more logical side of her knew Kusari was right, but that had gone out of the window as soon as they'd started losing people. After spending so long with only trees to hurt... damn it, she wanted this, sick as it was. As she kept speaking, her tone grew harsher; her dangerous expression maybe all-too-familiar to the Arbiter. "Better me than one of you."

Kusari narrowed her eyes at Zoe. She couldn't be this stupid, she had to know what she was doing. "Stop it. You don't get to do that." Kusari nearly growled, trying to contain her temper. "You can't pretend to be a tough bitch then act like a suicidal crybaby. You're going to help us here, and then we are going to that boat. Together. Do you understand me?" Kusari's tone made it clear that she'd stop Zoe if she had to.

Zoe practically spat her next words, anger flaring rather than being calmed. "Fuck you. I don't know what you think you're talking about, but it's bullshit. I'm no crybaby, and I'm not suicidal - what I am is someone who can handle this, same way I've had to handle everything else so far." And yet the words had very clearly struck a nerve somewhere along the line. "So how about I go fight, and you can stay here while you shove your plan up your ass."

Kusari's crimson eyes glared at Zoe. For a moment she was silent, then she spoke. "You really are a lost cause, aren't you?" She said with nonchalant venom. Her gaze went to the hole in the wall. "If that's the way you'll be, then fine. I'll just take that option away from you. If you try going for that wall, I'll beat you there. I'm not going to let you do it, so get the idea out of your head."

Zoe met Kusari's glare with one of her own. A lost cause, huh? "You don't have to tell me that." It stung slightly but she was glad to see that the other girl had finally caught on. It was... more familiar than having to deal with sympathy, really. Painful truth over comforting fiction. "And we both know what I could do to you if you tried. You really want to take that risk?" To her credit Zoe at least managed to sound determined, but it didn't hide the way her fists clenched anxiously at her side, or how she failed to maintain her stare.

Kusari let out a scoff and spread out her arms. "Do whatever you want Zoe. I'm not repeating myself, I mean what I say, and no amount of bravado is going to change anything."

"Don't taunt me." Zoe practically snarled at Kusari - for a moment, she appeared almost ready to lunge, but a sharp bite to her cheek was enough to keep her focused. Ally. Kusari was an ally. "It's bad enough without being fucking provoked."

"Yeah yeah cry more. This conversation is over." Kusari dismissed Zoe's response and turned her attention to the raging fires in front of them. She wasn't going to sit here and argue until a dammed tree came and attacked her. Speaking of which, it appeared that what trees were destroyed were soon replaced with even more. She didn't think the trees were the actual mage, they had to be summons. Whoever was creating them had to be on the other side, as well as whoever created the wall. Kusari bit her lip in frustration. She didn't know what to do. She could try to beat the Amigos to the ferry, but then Zoe would end up getting herself killed. She hung her head, thinking about what options they had. She blinked as she noticed the wet grass at her feet. She glanced back to Zoe, then to the hoard of trees.

"Hey fire crotch, I've got something you can do besides getting yourself murdered. You can use your ability on those trees, right? What about the grass? Spread it out to all of them, maybe even that demonic looking motherfucker."

"Can you go one argument without bringing my crotch into it? Fine." That Kusari's idea made sense only served to annoy Zoe more. Of course she could use the surface - it was just a matter of trying not to affect her classmates. Forty-five metres. There wasn't the time for precision, so she just reached out as far as she could in every direction, the rot at a near standstill on the grass. Maintaining that effect wasn't too difficult in itself - and she was confident she could keep herself from attacking anyone that wasn't an enemy.

Kusari, however, barefoot as she was, would soon see the suspect black veins spreading across her flesh. A conscious decision. "In case they don't touch the grass, hit them and I'll go from there." Zoe was unapologetic as she turned her attention to the fight, accelerating the rot towards the advancing trees.

Kusari hopped as if she were skipping across a bed of coals as Zoe's toxic magic worked it's way into her feet. She was tempted to complain, but it would be pointless. She just needed to be useful right now. Her allies were struggling with the shadow monster, she could jump in as well, but the trees needed to be dealt with as well lest they have even more to contend with. digging her claws into the ground she sprinted forward, moving much faster than she could on just one superhuman leg. The only problem was her bulky arms. Swinging them like normal didn't feel right. Before the part of her brain that gave a damn how she looked could chime in, Kusari had leaned forward and began using her arms to help her run. A girl in a bloody school uniform with red steel claws running like a beast, just what the hell was her life?

She pounced towards the base of one of the Ent like monsters, slashing at it with her right hand claws. She kept moving as fast as she could, sprinting away and then closing in again for another attack, effectively using hit and run tactics.

As the assault began, Zoe's eyes lit up, anger forgotten. The grass, and Kusari's body for that matter, provided more than enough of a conduit for her to start spreading her deadly virus into the trees. Still, there were only so many things she could do at once, and trying to keep track of the entire battlefield was making it difficult to maintain the different parts of her power. Deciding to leave the shadow-creature to the others, she was able to focus on starting her attack in earnest - the rot on the trees dramatically accelerating as she did. Unless they had some trick up their sleeves, she doubted the trees would reach her in time to do damage.

The way Zoe saw it, it was just a question of how long they'd keep on coming.

The roaring of the storm was soon broken. Sounds of combat filled the air, and already, the heavy scents of blood called to him. Somewhere, someone familiar was bleeding. A lot. Far too much. Alive, but faint. But who was this? Not one of those he cared for. So instead, he focused into his fiery trance, reaching out with his senses to feel for the enemies. At the same time, his armor slitted into place around his entire body, the metallic material warm to the touch. Infused with his (someone else?) life blood, it seemed. The effects of Christmas's blood still circled light around his torso, but he hoped he wouldn't need it much with his own regeneration.

Somewhere to his left, Hazel struck at the wall. Packed dirt came crumbling down, and Sander chose that moment to rush in, heading straight toward the unfamiliar scent in front of him. A hunched, hulking shadow collided with his momentum, the impact sending the much smaller of the two masses hurtling to the side. The armor held, but Sander was left winded from the impact as the vaguely humanoid monster shook off the sudden collision. It turned to the blood mage’s sprawled form, as if considering, but the hands that had smashed through the wall were of higher priority so instead it leapt onto the burning wall and then the projected torso, strength enough to tear through the projections as it moved.

A white glow enveloped the demon's leg as Lawrence's power flared to life and the creature clawed at Hazel's projected arm, tearing through the purplish haze while it tumbled down, one leg spasming violently. It hit the ground and tried to realign itself onto the good leg, but the glow switched targets, the seasoned student already expecting that course of action.

Lawrence did not, however, expect the chunk of dirt thrown his way as the black monster found the target hampering its movements.

Letting his rage take the lead, Sander found his footing easily enough. Immediately, the blood mage once again charged at the shadow creature, leaping up at it from behind.

Without warning Hazel shimmered back to solidity, her torso gaping open from the creature's attack, as well as a large gash on her arm. Staggering, she fell flat on her face in a pool of her own blood.

"Wha.."

Turning her head sideways, she caught a glimpse of Lawrence's glow, and what the demon was about to do. With the last bit of her strength, and her vision fading, she stretched out a hand towards him, a large purplish limb catching the chunk of dirt, disintegrating it, before fading. When the impact never came, Lawrence had already moved his arm away from his face where he had at least attempted to shield one of his more vital body parts. The fading limb and a bleeding Hazel were his immediate priorities aside from disabling the creature's arms and flailing it about comically. The action wasn't pettiness, though. He needed to keep it off balance and staggered, hoping to buy enough time for anyone to contest.

His hopes were answered in the form of Sander, leaping onto the shadow monster's back from behind as it wobbled and struggled to dash towards Lawrence. Despite its efforts, Sander clung, the red glow around them both signalling the slow draining effects of his power while Christmas's magic continued boosting his own regenerative powers. Meanwhile, he bit into the creature’s neck and clawed at its eye with his free hand, only to meet unyielding flesh. It twisted suddenly, intending to crush Sander beneath its body as it fell and even with Lawrence's manipulation forcing it to fall at an awkward angle, there was little a single limb could do against gravity. Its tremendous weight fell upon the blood mage clinging to its back, but with a steady supply of blood coursing into him the battered form was already healing and the creature was now struggling to rise, arms and legs alighting white alternatingly as Lawrence interfered. Pain coursed through his body, but Sander only gritted his teeth and held fast, fighting the creature’s movement every step of the way, rain and mud scattering madly around them as the two thrashed against the flooded dirt.

Hoping the monster was occupied enough with Sander, Lawrence released the latest hold on its left leg, exertion already trailing fatigue in its wake. If he kept it up any longer, he'd be in no shape to run, let alone fight. Instead he ran to Hazel, wasting no time tearing at the bloodied clothes on her body with his pocket knife and ripping the blouse into thick strips that he used to bind the worst of the gaping injury on her torso. Her waterlogged clothes were heavy now and he doubted he could drag her back to safety without severely aggravating the injury. Lifting her and dashing to the lighthouse was out of the question. He was strong, not superhuman.

Callan grimaced at the sight of Hazel's wound, shifting forward to help out of habit. Before she knew it, however, a writhing mass of black and red was crashing through the mud and rain, quickly drawing her attention. That shadow creature needed to be taken care of... and maybe it wasn't entirely inconvenient that Hazel be out of commission for a short while. Lawrence seemed to have it covered anyway.

The creature's tail stood exposed every so often as the pair rolled across the earth. Her hammer faded and she dashed forward, doing her best to position herself at the rear before grasping the appendage tightly with both hands as she bent her knees and sharply yanked the creature backwards.

Her feet dug into the wet earth and the monster flailed backwards, Sander still clinging tightly to its torso. It fell backwards onto the supergirl now, claws raking through air and dirt as it struggled against the two students. With a concerted force of both its body and arms, the demon flipped itself over and pushed off from the ground, aiming to just jump away from at least one of the inhumanly strong students and landing a short distance away from the winded Callan. Its clawed hand groped for Sander, still clutching at the back of its neck and getting stronger still. Finding purchase on the blood mage, it whipped his form at the bundle of drenched aquamarine hair, sending him smashing into her.

With no time to react, the impact sent Callan falling and sliding through the mud several yards with a loud, "Oof!" She quickly pushed Sander off and scrambled into motion, her foot slipping once before she was back on her feet. The sky thundered overhead just before a bolt of lightning cast a harsh light over the creature, still softly illuminated by Chris's flames a short distance away. In the menacing light of a dismal dawn, it looked all the part of a fairy tale monster--over twice their height and burly, hulking in the way its back hunched over a pair of gangly arms tipped in needlepoint claws that nearly touched the toes of its hind legs. A beast-like snout, digitigrade posture, and a long tail finished the black creature's feral appearance. Despite the ink darkness of its body, however, a slightly more matte pattern was barely discernible on the base of its throat; it was a familiar mark--a black X.

"Sander!" Callan shouted above the chaos, "What's the plan?"

Sander didn't even spare her an answer. He quickly straightened up and once again lunged toward the monster, intending to tackle it down.

"Sander!" Callan shouted after him incredulously.

With its balance back and Sander charging headfirst, the monster was ready. It met the blood mage head-on in a grapple that its bulk and power still won, tossing Sander to the ground once more where it raked a claw across his torso, breaking through the weakened blood armor and slicing into flesh, other arm already coming down for a follow-up blow that pierced clean through Sander's abdomen, skewering him. The demon lifted him briefly with the embedded arm, free hand wrapping around the plates of blood forming over Sander's face and crushing, the armor barely holding against the pressure for the moment.

More pain threatened to overtake his senses, and a sickening crack that reverberated thorough his ribcage clearly indicated that something had gone horribly wrong. What he felt through the blood high was just an echo, but this was a very loud one. He had no choice but to slip further into his rage, consolidating all his remaining power into a decisive burst, the damage outweighing the effects of Christmas's healing. Yet, it only got worse. The creature lifted him, talons buried in his chest and hand threatened to crush his skull, leaving him squirming at its mercy.

Sander was gritting his teeth so hard, for a moment he was worried he might break them all. With an angry snarl, he batted the hand gripping his head away, before grabbing the arm that was embedded in him and pushing off it to slam his head against the monster’s. It reeled briefly from the blow, but remained upright, hand crushing harder at the armor around Sander's head.

It wasn't too long before Callan ran after Sander, but perhaps it was too late. Her eyes widened in horror as the creature's claw emerged out of Sander's back, piercing through flesh and armor alike. She bit back the panic that momentarily flared in her throat, jumping into a roll as Sander, in spite of his injury, went for the head. Coming to a stop just behind the creature's right heel, she summoned her axe and quickly swung it across the ankles.

The axe severed one ankle and bit deep into the other, the monster turning to look at Callan in disbelief. It fell forward, still holding firmly to Sander's head. As it landed, it swung the occupied arm at Callan, claws tearing into her body enough to leave heavy gashes across her extended arms, but without its full strength in the swing, the attack was far from critical.

The impact of the fall jarred his deep wounds, causing Sander to cry out, his vision blurred dangerously for a few short moments. He recovered soon enough though, maintaining his grip on the creature’s arms, desperation and rage spurring him on.

Callan immediately lost her grip on the axe, crying out behind clenched teeth. Seering pain raced across her arms, tearing cleanly through the fabric of her sweatshirt to reveal the warm blood quickly pooling into the fresh wounds underneath. The fight, however, was far from over. She staggered sideways but quickly regained her balance and rose trembling arms skyward, summoning the axe again in a position similar to that of an executioner. Her amethyst eyes flared with confidence and anger. The shadow monster bore a small resemblance to another certain creature that she hated. There was no hesitation as the axe snapped into its proper form and she forced the ethereal steel down towards the monster's exposed front, careful to note Sander's position. The blow connected soundly with the demon's chest, cutting deep into its thick torso. Despite the grave wound, it flailed again, the arm skewering Sander slamming the mage against the ground once more as it panicked, the pain evident in its movements despite the lack of blood and discernible expression. Another wild swing caught Callan's legs, slicing through muscle and bone and paying her back in kind for the previous attack, though it failed to sever without the creature's focus.

Lying on his side, the blood mage made another effort of restraining the creature's arms, though his strength was slowly seeping away with his blood from the gaping wound. Yet, it didn't seem like he would give up any time soon.

Callan tried not to lose her grip on her weapon's handle again, but a different kind of sensation sent her falling heavily into the mud before she had a chance to even scream. Her leg's felt... loose. The pain was almost blinding. Rolling away from the creature, she pulled her knees in close, gasping out a strained whimper as her hand brushed against the new injury. Trying to recollect her thoughts and remain calm, she was still for a moment save the occasional shudder.

The skirmish was interrupted by the sudden crashing of what appeared to be the entire lighthouse top against the wall in the distance, the shatter of stone, glass, and wood ringing louder than the storm as several of the trees fell under the massive cement segment. Glass and broken metal beams scattered in the wake of the rubble skidding briefly across the ground as it smashed through the sand and dirt wall and ended its brief travel a dozen meters away on the other side of the steam.

But the continued march of the living wood and the wall's slow reform meant the attack, as shocking as it was, had been only that: a surprise.

Allison Revel

Allison ran out of the lighthouse, immediately finding herself in a hellish conflict. The storm made vision difficult, as well as thoroughly soaking the aberration. Even through the storm, though, she made out the form of Chris flying through the air, setting fire to what seemed to be trees below. The forms of who Allison assumed to be Zoe and Kusari also seemed to be present near the trees. A massive wall, surrounded by what looked like steam had been erected between the lighthouse and the ferry. Allison thought about using the shard to break down a chunk of the wall, but before she could move to take action, her eyes fell upon a massive, demon-like man struggling against Lawrence, Hazel, Sander, and Callan. Allison broke into a sprint.

By the time Allison got close enough to see the fight clearly through the storm, she knew for sure she was a bit late. Callan, Sander and Hazel were all certainly wounded, with Lawrence administering first aid to Hazel as best he could in the rain. If only Allison had gotten their sooner... There was not time to contemplate how things could have gone better. Allison summoned the shard, and quickly moved in closer to the fight.

The shard didn't manifest as her blade this time, instead, the long, glass-like object floated in the air, just above her shoulder. It certainly was strange that the shard floated without dissipating. Allison was still perplexed by the new shard, despite having summoned it a few times out of curiosity during her hours alone in her room. Why was her power changing? As interesting as the question was, the shadowy monster man and her dying friends were slightly more important. Allison was about to loose the shard when a massive boom erupted from the wall.

It took her a moment to realize what exactly happened, still reeling from the shock of it. The light of the lighthouse had been thrown at the wall, the subsequent impact drowning out even the storm for a few seconds. Allison turned back to the enemy, attempting to clear away her foggy, lustful thoughts as well as the shock from the sudden distraction. The loss of those few moments could have cost her allies their lives. Allison let the shard fly.

The first thing he heard was the sound, even before the impact splashed sand and dirt into the air where the beach met the edge of the forest. Nathaniel spun to see the lighthouse roofβ€”top room and allβ€”skid a short distance, shedding concrete and support beams as it gouged the ground. He surprised himself, more than anyone, by staring only a moment before whirling back around, sprinting now for the pier where the ferry floated in the strangest rendition of a holy grail yet. Orla was hot on his heels, running alongside the floating torso of Angel and lifting the height of the far end even higher, thickening the wall as she moved. Kelly sprouted more living trees, the hulking wood constructs bursting from the ground and the steaming wall itself to overwhelm the students on the other side, stepping on the burning embers of their comrades without a trace of pain. They marched mindlessly, footsteps a drumbeat to the roaring rain.

Ian took the earth around him and raised a cutting sandstorm, the particles whirling quickly enough to nick the wood of the trees they surrounded, sending a tidal wave of moving sand over the wall to bolster the attack, replacing what sand had initially been weighed down by the rain. The particulate matter nicked and scraped at skin, lodging into clothes and orifices and moving still, vicious in their determination to rend at exposed skin like sandpaper.

Far ahead of Nathaniel, Thi’s flesh had parted across all her limbs like shredded rags, revealing the hideous augmentations of metals and magic that propelled her forward across the wet sand at a pace faster than any human could ever achieve. She was already at the ferry by the time the lighthouse’s head landed, the decapitated building hardly fazing her.

She would have left without them, too, Nathaniel knew, if he wasn’t the one carrying their trophy. The orb pulsed violently over his shoulder as he ran, flattening the earth in front of him to make movement easier and manipulating his legs even when they tired quickly of the breakneck speed. Orla raised the barricades behind them, too, fencing out any potential pursuers.

Flashes of fire from the dragon in the sky burned another wave of trees that stumbled forward a moment longer before crumbling to ashes, but more and more came, their numbers absurd, like a colony of ants. Zoe’s rot held them at bay, spreading like lightning except where the dragon’s fire burned too quickly for the infection to spread further. Around the students the trees melted to sludge, black ichor where they once stood, their endless progress kept at bay only by the sheer monstrosity of the powers they faced. And still more came, dying as quickly as they appeared, but the rate of creation and decay zeroed out and not in the students’ favor.

The wounded shadow beast recovered from the shock of the lighthouse attack first, clawing at the bright-haired girl on the ground nearby, the first swipe lacerating the backs of both forearms to the muscle and slicing deep into Callan’s legs. Misery, however, would not be budged so easily without its owner’s control, the monster weapon both subservient and defiant to its creator’s will in its own inexplicable ways. As Rhohan swung again, aiming to rip the wounded superhuman girl into pieces, a flash of an intangible, purple blade struck his leg.

There was no pain at first, only a dampening of energy, as if a switch somewhere had been turned off. Then the monster form shuddered and flickered, dispersing in a rising stream of jagged lines. The axe followed gravity, biting into a human, cutting clean through the upper half of the young man’s body. A heavyset man with dark skin and curly brown hair already soaked in the rain stared at Callan in his last moments, amber eyes wide in death and jaw slack in surprise as he struggled to understand what had happened.

But death waits for neither epiphany nor last words and the focus dimmed from his eyes seconds later, his severed torso spilling blood freely into the rain-soaked dirt.

With his enemy bisected and bleeding beneath him, Sander did not hesitate, especially when his gaping gut wound took far longer to heal that he would like. Leaning forward, he bit cleanly into the exposed neck, slurping down the still-warm blood that oozed out. The other Aberration was already dead, so his blood had lost much of its potency, but Sander would make do. He could not waste the strength. It barely took a minute for the corpse to run dry; Sander’s power had soaked up even the pooling blood on the forest floor. Rejuvenated, the blood mage rose to his feet, maimed body forgotten at his feet. His armor was falling to pieces as well, so he took it off, letting the fragments slowly absorbed back into his skin.

Then his eyes fell on Callan's battered body. His breaths hitched as he leaned down, pressing a feather-light touch to her shoulder. There was just simply too much blood. He didn’t know what to do. Didn’t dare.

β€œC-Callan?”

Fear spurred the pounding in Callan's chest as she watched the razor sharp claws of her enemy rise to strike. Enduring a fate similar to Sander... she wasn't so sure she was capable of fighting through it like the vampire aberration had managed to do. Amethyst eyes still wet with reluctant tears widened as Allison's blade made contact and her own axe fell. Through racing thoughts, adrenaline, and distressed nerves, a single question flooded her mind.

Why?

Callan stared down at the remarkably human looking "monster" just before the sandstorm forced her to shield her eyes and turn away on reflex. The lifeless eyes and stark black X, glistening with rain, was burned into her memory, however. Just face for her to add to the collection she'd so far accrued. Why did it have to be this way? Why were they attacking? Why couldn't they be on the same side? Why was this so infuriating?

She shivered as the pain of her wounds brought her back to the now. They needed to get out of here before anyone else showed up. Hissing through her teeth as the sandstorm seemed to exacerbate the gashes, she barely managed to make out the figure of Sander crouched over their enemy's corpse. She grimaced at the sight. Waste not want not, she supposed.

Pushing herself further off the ground with her arms, the stress pumping through her veins propelled her to try and stand. The pain was almost worse than the sensation of feeling her own detached and raw flesh move against itself as the severed muscles failed to function in sync with one another.

"Agh!" she exclaimed, falling back into a sitting position immediately. Sander's touch might've gone unnoticed if he hadn't spoken. She released a shaky breath, amethyst eyes locking with two glowing red irises before falling to the closing hole in Sander's chest. The reminder of how effective Sander's self healing was provided its own small bit of relief in the midst of the ongoing chaos.

"Hey, Sandy," she forced a weakly reassuring smiled when she noticed his gaze tracing her injuries, "We-- ngh-- we gotta get outta here. C-can you get Hazel and I to a healer? I can't...." She looked down at her legs, seeping blood into the mud at an alarming rate.

The mention of Hazel's name caused Sander to lift his gaze and glanced toward where Lawrence was crouching over her, ripped cloth stemming the flow of blood. Having just drank quite a bit, Sander didn't fully trust himself with the task, but he also knew the stakes; just from the thickness of the scents alone, he knew that he had to get both of them back to safety, and fast. His throat tightened, suddenly too dry and his heart thudded in anticipation. The fire was waiting for a single lapse in his concentration, the traitorous thing. He would not let it stop him this time.

"Okay." -Sander nodded, because he thought he should -"Alright."

Leaning toward, he took both of Callan's arms and wrapped them around his neck, urging her silently to hold on while his other arm reached around to support her lower back. She held on tightly, wincing throughout the motion.

Callan had meant to thank him, but with every pulse her strength felt like it beginning to dwindle, her breathing, more labored, and her tongue felt heavy in her mouth. All that escaped her instead was a restrained groan. Bleeding again-- why couldn't she be better than this? Sleep was beginning to sound like a fair idea. A dark, still, quiet where nothing burned and the looming stress of death overcoming not only herself, but everyone else would be a muffled thought. But she held on, willing herself to remain conscious, though completely missing the thin black thread that moved towards her and Sander through the raging sands. The wounds faded, though some fatigue lingered.

"Lily," Callan said, loosening her grip around Sander's neck and letting her feet plant themselves on the ground. She turned to try and see Hazel. Visibility was too low and she and Lawrence were too far, but it was probably a safe bet Lily had healed Hazel, too. Now to figure out their next course of action. The top of the lighthouse was almost completely lost from her sight. No sign of Angelique. No ferry. No vehicles. How were they going to get out of here?

"Pull back. We're retreating back to the tunnels." Ernie's voice buzzed through the cuff, just audible over the augmented storm.

She'd take it.

"Sander, help me make sure everybody gets back inside the lighthouse. Time to go!" Callan shouted, running towards Hazel and Lawrence.

Sander simply looked at Callan as her skin knitted together and her wounds close, his nostrils flared slightly to catch any scent that could contradict the healing. There was none. Callan was fully healed. As well as Lawrence and Hazel. Quickly, Sander took a few steps back now that Callan could stand by herself, giving her some space. When their order came from Ernie through the cuff, Sander raised his eyebrows, clearly confused. Weren't they to get out of here? Wouldn't retreating defeat that purpose? He turned, narrowed eyes stared off into the distance while his senses worked. The sand storm beat harmlessly against his skin, but its rage paled when compared to his own. What it did though, was obscuring his vision, making him rely on his blood sense.

When Callan finally decided for herself and ran off, Sander gave her back a silent nod before dashing off on his own as well, heading toward the scents of Zoe and Kusari. Theirs were the closest.

Allison Revel

Allison was hit by a freight train as the shadow monster died, the creature being replaced by something undoubtedly human, though even that didn't last long as an axe cut the poor thing in half. The brunette crumpled to the ground just as what became of the monster did, though thankfully much more alive.

Everything slowed down, there was only heavy rain and strained breaths as Allison found herself in that familiar, useless state. Everyone else fought to their last breath, and here she was, on the ground after one action. Weak. Others fought to survive, and Allison panicked, worried about just being useful. Pathetic. She needed to get off the ground, but simply found herself breathing harder, the needles of cold rain threatening to pierce her skin. Useless.

'What are you doing?' Some part of her asked that question, and her own lack of an answer was simultaneously telling and excrutiating. If she was crying, the rain masked it well enough that even she couldn't tell. 'What are you doing?' She didn't exactly know. She was lying on the ground as everything fell apart, or at least things seemed to be falling apart what with sand joining the pouring rain in stabbing at her flesh. What was she supposed to be doing? Angel was missing, the enemy was stealing their means of escape, and none of it really made any sense. Allison wasn't exactly good at making sense of things, though she seemed fairly good at rushing head first into things that could destroy her.

Ernie's voice came through Allison's cuff, and she was sure she caught the gist of it at least. Something about retreating to the tunnels. Giving up, effectively. It annoyed the girl who had seemingly resigned herself to the ground. Her mind wandered in protest, looking for any alternative to grasp onto, even if it was for such a desperately selfish reason as to sate her own stigma. Angel flashed in her mind again, though arguably it never stopped, just with a different meaning to the word this time. Angel wasn't dead, that Allison was sure of. What if the enemy had taken Angel? It was something that had crossed her mind before, but now she was desperate enough to believe it. They had retreated to and stolen the ferry. Getting off the island was more important than crippling Zhang's home and captive weapons. Why? They must already have what they wanted. Why would that be Angel? Allison had no clue, but it had to be true, and if it was, she had to do something about it. There was only one thing for Allison to do, rush head first into something that could destroy her.

She rose from the ground with a newfound vigor, and told her cuff to transmit as she turned away from the biting sand.

"They have Angel," she stopped herself, knowing that making a definite claim would be foolish, more so than she was already being. "At least... I think they do. Anyway, I have a plan." It was the most reckless thing she could think of in that moment, with icy rain and harsh sand beating against her, fitting but ultimately terrible. "Though, it could easily kill Angel if they do have her, so if anyone has a better plan, share it." Allison's voice shared the urgent words in a manner that surprised even her with how monotone and empty they sounded. 'What are you doing?' the words echoed in her head again. "Otherwise, Chris, I'll need you to land near the lighthouse. Prepare for takeoff immediately. Zoe and Kusari, you'll need to be ready to jump on immediately." She felt insane, commanding her classmates around for her selfish, suicidal rescue mission. Well, maybe she was insane. At least she wasn't crying on the ground while sand and rain ripped at her skin and clothing. "End transmission." Somehow still standing in the impossible conditions, Allison forced herself towards the lighthouse.

Sophia Lemane

Even as people around her moved around, speaking, planning, or whatever it was they were doing, Sophia didn't move from her spot by the wall. The cage containing the bird was clutched tightly in both hands as if it were a lifeline, an anchor, as her gaze darted around the room but often strayed to the window. There was little to be seen between the rain, the whirling sand, and the sky that hadn't entirely lightened yet. But she knew it had to be bad. There were classmates out there--her classmates--trying to hold the attackers off? For how long?

And they were stuck here.

This time, she didn't long to see around her and find the placement of everything. She didn't want to pinpoint the locations of the people. The objects. Last time during the attack on D.C, when it had come to uncovering the people buried there, she had thought she could not see enough and longed for more. She had gotten it, but now she didn't want to see. Sophia's gaze left the window and she looked down into the small birdcage at the reddish black bird there, observing it's movements as the seconds ticked by and the voices around her blurred. There was the bird, there was her. And there was fear. That was all. But at least she could focus on the bird. Did it know what danger it was in?

Heidi...

When Ernie came to get her down into the tunnels once more, she held the cage by one hand and grabbed the guitar with the other, taking a moment to sling it over her back for ease of carry. Stopping short at the trapdoor, she glanced at Ernie nervously then back at the cage. It would be difficult to climb down holding the cage, so...

It was hard, but she managed to speak (quietly) to Ernie. "Could you... hold this while--while I... climb?" As she spoke, she extended the cage out by a few inches towards Ernie.

"Just fucking get a new one!" As Ernie glared, Sophia withdrew the cage quickly and looked away. She wouldn't leave Pav behind. Heidi was already... behind... and the bird had been entrusted to her. She couldn't leave the innocent thing. Silently, she wrapped one arm around the birdcage and tried to make sure it rested snugly against her hip, fingers gripping the bars to help prevent her from dropping it.

Then she began to climb down, trying to ignore Ernie's unapproving presence and the bad feeling it gave her. Clinging close to the ladder as she made her way down one armed, the bird cage clanked and scraped against the ladder. Sorry, Pav. I'm sorry. I'm trying my best. Once down, she remained by the wall, gaze on the bird once more.

"How are these things still coming!?" Kusari screamed as she tore into another tree. For every one they destroyed another just replaced it, at this rate they'd get nowhere. As she sliced through another trunk with her claws the sandstorm suddenly increased in ferocity. She winced as sand caused nicks in her skin. She could ignore it as her magic would heal it, but the others didn't have that luxury.

Ernest's voice spoke through her cuff, he wanted to retreat? Kusari shook her head as if he were right there. She didn't want to run away, not now. They were trying so hard to keep them away, she wanted to know why. Why come here just to then turn tail and escape?

Even still, regrouping and coming up with a plan would be a good idea. Kusari ran back to the front of the lighthouse to meet the others. As she arrived she ran into Callan and Sander. She looked towards the direction their fight had taken place, the large monster was gone. As expected of Callan and Sander she supposed. Regardless, she was glad they were alright.

As Kusari was about to speak she heard Allison's voice transmit to her. For a moment she froze in place. Angel being taken made sense, it would explain why they didn't want them to get close, and why they wanted to escape so quickly. Allison's voice seemed odd, but she didn't dwell on it.

"I'll g- Transmit, I'll go. Whatever it takes to get her back I'll do it. End transmission."

Zoe Fletcher

As sand whipped against her skin, Zoe squeezed her eyes shut, raising an arm to shield her face against the constant barrage of debris. It was vicious, constant, and she could practically feel it taking the skin off of her arm. Why the hell she didn't have the sense to wear a goddamn jacket now and then was a question for later, but it was a choice she was seriously regretting as her skin started to sting.

Still, enduring that wasn't even close to enough. Despite her best efforts, she could still feel the trees advancing, more targets springing up even as she tore them down as fast as she possibly could. Like heads on a hydra - you killed one, two came up to replace it.

I can't hold them off forever.

That was pretty much certain. There was strain involved in using her power to this extent, even before accounting for the increasing difficulty of keeping herself from hurting Kusari even if just a little wouldn't be so bad. Gritting her teeth, she kept going, an unsteady laugh shaking her shoulders despite her best efforts to the contrary.

She wasn't quite losing it yet, at least. It was frustration, pride, and yeah, some level of denial that kept her from retreating even as Ernie's transmission came through. This was a losing battle. They were out-powered, outmanoeuvred, and didn't stand much of a chance. But this was where she belonged, this was where she was supposed to be useful-- if she couldn't even win here, then what the fuck was the point?

If she wasn't strong, then she wasn't worth anything at all.

There has to be something I can do.

So many possibilities, so many opportunities, so much potential and she just couldn't think. It wasn't like Wisford, or D.C., or even their first fight - this wasn't a challenge she could meet head on and win. But she didn't know how to deal with that, how to face things without beating them down and breaking them. The other ways didn't work. Caution, diplomacy, subtlety, she'd never known how to make them work.

But she could hold these things off, at least until the others made it indoors.

Just as she was about to resign herself to that fate, the next transmission caught her attention. Allison? So much for 'no more suicide missions'. That, and the mention of planning, brought a scowl to her face. She wasn't much for plans, and even less for plans that sounded like they were about to be incredibly fucking dumb. In the kind of situation they found themselves in, dumb plans were pretty much suicidal. Still, that being said...

Zoe had to do this, not because she was forced into it, but because she wouldn't let herself turn away. There was always a choice, and running now - it'd mean quitting on the only thing she was good for. To tell the truth, she didn't believe that Angel was alive. This was, in all likelihood, just her classmates being in denial; people died. You couldn't wish that fact away or ignore it, even if you wanted to.

So it wasn't any promise of retrieval that motivated Zoe's response.

"Transmit. If it means I get to kill the fuckers, count me in." Okay, so she sounded a little too enthusiastic about that prospect, but they'd have to be used to it at this point. "Over."

Christopher Francis

π•Žπ•–π••: 𝕆𝕔π•₯. 𝟟, 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟘 / / 𝔹𝕒𝕝𝕕 ℍ𝕖𝕒𝕕 π•€π•€π•π•’π•Ÿπ•• / / π•ƒπ•šπ•˜π•™π•₯𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕀𝕖 / / ~πŸ˜πŸπŸ›πŸ˜

The sandstorm triggered Chris's nictitating membrane to shield his eyes from the harsh sand. While his vision was protected, the leathery skin membrane of his wings were not so durable as the rest of his armored body; With the strong wind current and the sand particles that rained upon his wings like bullets, his flight maneuverability was becoming hampered by the condition. With two walls now blocking the way for the rest of the team and the trees still pouring in like zombies, Chris had to move quickly. He was unable to see the attackers in his current position and would only be able to do so once he can fly over those walls, a task becoming less likely as the sand continued to rain down.

Chris ignored Ernie's transmission, he had no plans to take cover. Before he could advance however, Allison's transmission stopped him. Unlike Ernie's suggestion, Chris was able to move past his seething ire of blood lust in favor of strategy. Allison said that Angelique may be alive, and while that was an unlikely speculation, Chris was optimistic enough to want to at least try and recover her alive...if Allison was right in her guessing.

A swift u-turn changed Chris into the direction of the wind's path, making his trip towards Allison and others by what was left of the lighthouse to be a slightly easier journey. He descended upon his teammates with a crashing thud into the earth, feet planted firmly on the impact. Fierce eyes and a monstrous roar displayed that Chris was not being very patient. His tail thwacked hard against the earth as if to say to his comrades to hurry the hell up and climb on. Like Zoe, Chris was out for blood, and he would be damn sure these assholes get whats coming to them whether or not they have Angelique.
