“Well, folk music’s a nice change from what everyone else remembers, after all.” Nano laughed with Clyde. “Seriously though, I’ve got ‘Despacito’ scorched into my brain and it isn’t even one of my own memories.”

Despite all this, however, his graphite pencil still danced over fresh pages, keeping up with the old man as he sang his song, with all its variations and repetitions, all its humor and sorrow committed onto a tidy rectangle of bleached and flattened tree pulp. With a different notation that he used for observing intonations, Nano recorded the shifting pitch of the song as well, using an almost nonsensically erratic squiggly line. Once it was finished, he went on to take notes of Clyde’s abstract, but worthy opinion on adventuring as well. It certainly was a pretty sentiment, wasn’t it, that adventures were something that were had at a pace comfortable to the individual, and that they shouldn’t get swept along the flow of their peers.

Sage, if simplistic, advice. It’d be easy enough to remember even without recording it, but Nano did so anyways, for the world was wide and dangerous, and familiar faces became lost with distance and time. He closed his eyes, took a breath, and then nodded, “Yeah, I’ve held you up long enough. One last question though…skeletons, what’s the best way to deal with ‘em?”

It was another response that was simple, expected, but useful. "Crackin' their skulls usually the best. They ain't too affected by other things."

“Got it, got it,” Nano replied in a sing-song tone, “I’ll see you around then, Clyde! If you ever arrive at the City of Brass in…three months from now, ask for me and we can hang out again, yeah?”

"Maybe. I ain't the best at making plans," he said, followed by a laugh.

Nano simply grinned in response, before heading off on his own. His boot knife was a cute weapon, but there was definitely no way in hell he was going to be able to crack open a skull with its pointy end. No, for skeleton-smashing, one would require something blunt and heavy. Something like…

The markets carried many goods, from spices to potions to tasty little treats to big hunks of meat to fancy clothing to cutesy ornaments, but Nano ignored them all in favor of a woodcutter famed for the ‘quality’ of the trees he fell. With the few spare coins he had left, he purchased the densest log the man had to offer and headed to the fountains again, sitting down by the edge.

Keep it fast, keep it clean, keep it smooth.

In one hand, Nano held the wooden log. In another hand, he pulled at the ether that was invisible to all but himself and manifested an oval ring of stardust, glowing like a miniature galaxy. Already, it was beginning to efface his soul, chipping away at his essence, but the celestial weapon didn’t need to last long at all. With a swipe of his hand, he drove the immensely hot ring three-fourths the way through the log, white smoke hissing dramatically. He widened the ring-blade afterwards, and it hissed out, celestial energy slicing out from the log, leaving only a stout, oval handle intact.

Fast and clean and smooth. The residual ash was easily wiped off in the fountain, and the excess of the log was slid off like a sheath, leaving him with the sort of top-heavy wooden club that he expected would be easy to use and easier to maintain. Drawing his boot knife, the coal-eyed youth made some finishing touches on the handle, cutting in ridges to improve grip and scraped away some sections that had been particularly badly-burnt, before giving the new weapon a couple test swings.

It had a greater heft than a baseball bat, and he could totally see how fighting someone with finesse was going to fuck him over, but he could swing it with one hand and it had much better range than his little dinky knife so really, it was totally a win, right? Yup, a mega win.

Ignoring the looks he got from others, Nano baptized his wooden club in the slightly-sooty fountain waters, before swinging off the droplets dramatically.

His destination? Southeast.

His mission? Crack skeleton skulls.

“Right.” She nodded, as she took the girl's initiative as direction of a sort. “I'm Lexa, by the way.”

She paced herself with the other girl, keeping her eyes on the street for the most part with taking moments to glance over to the short-haired girl when appropriate. The afterlife she had found herself in seemed all so strange, but she wasn't going to begin to understand it if she hid away from the people and worries of it all. The worries of the undead marching upon her like some bizarre video game was unsettling but the trickling memories of the sword that her hand rested on gave her just enough confidence and assurance that going to possibly fight with such creatures wasn't the worst possible scenario. Had this been her apartment in Heidelberg with no instinct it would be a different story; but this was something magical and strange.

Her scientific curiosity was pushing her forward. She just hoped it wouldn't get her killed.

"Emilia. It's nice to meet you, Lexa." Emilia responded, exchanging names with Lexa as they walked the city streets. Whilst she had no idea where these skeletons were, Emilia at least had a clue to where the man ran off to. If they were fast enough, they could reach the man before he stormed off outside the southern city gates, though he did have quite the head start on the two girls.

By the time they were nearing the gates, Emilia spotted the raven-haired man conversing with another female with equally long hair of the same color. Whilst the woman wielded two daggers that currently rested at her hip, the man's weapon of choice was a simple hammer. The Italian figured that the man must've been a craftsman, but she was left wondering why a craftsman would so easily charge into apparent danger. Was there supposedly some rare resource that he sought? If anything, perhaps this man could explain what and where exactly Emilia was in exchange for helping him find whatever he was searching for.

"Excuse me," Emilia called out as she approached the duo. "The two of us overheard your... uhm, conversation with the woman in the marketplace. We heard that you were going skeleton hunting, correct?"

Well, that was a thing.

The entirety of the situation could have been accompanied by a sad trombone for added hilarity. It was a little harsh, especially seeing it actually played out, but that was...well, it was exactly what Étoile had imagined. She had to confess that she didn't entirely blame the duo. She had been expecting some kind of floozy or maybe a hapless bimbo, but that mysterious woman had definitely caught her attention. She reminded her a bit of a tarot reader that she had gone to see once on a whim, albeit she didn't really believe any of the crap the lady had spew out about her 'destiny' and 'greater purpose' and whatever other nonsense she had said. But Magnolia had something about her that made it had to forget her, even as she was handed her coin she found herself looking in the direction of the woman.

Still, for the moment she couldn't be rude. "Merci," She told the man before he left to drown out his sorrows. As tempted as she was to go to Magnolia, there was one little thing she wanted to see to first. Pocketing the coin securely--and in a place pickpockets wouldn't take as it had been a rather harsh lesson to learn--she would give the nerd her attention.

"Oi, nerd," She addressed him rather bluntly. "Is what you're writing so important that you'd really rather have a notebook than coin?"

Rei atleast had to see their efforts through. Fortunately he didn't have to follow far, with them just crossing the street. Though he couldn't hear anything, when they came out with their heads hanging low, the outcome was clear. With their downtrodden selves he could not help suppress a pang of pity and even a trace of guilt. Still, he was glad to be handed the book. It would be much easier to write down his thoughts and understanding. His mind wrapped back to the the woman they had chosen to 'confess' to. She was peculiar, to say the least. The building was magnetic, almost beckoning him to visit. It wouldn't hurt, the world has magic of sorts. He could always ask Anton about the odd man with the shield later.

"Oi, nerd. Is what you're writing so important that you'd really rather have a notebook than coin?"

The half-blood realized that she was referring to him. "Oh, right you were still here. Thought you'd gone off after receiving the coin." he replied, "Firstly, it's Rei. Secondly, it's to help me... wrap my head around particular things."

He rifled through his pockets, taking out a folded piece of paper that he handed to the girl. Inside was a rough drawing of his crossbow, showing its particular parts and some notes like effective force output and similar. "With that, I can repair my weapon by myself provided I have the specific tools."

"That aside," he said, "What d'you think of that woman they confessed to?"

Ann-Katrin dutifully noted the male's name, and snorted mildly at his teasing. “Yeah, well, I’m still not used to this place or the people around here. Hope you don’t mind a new arrival too much,” Kat raised a curious eyebrow at Tien. “Huh, so you use magic together with that maul, then?" Ann continued, going along with the general good mood, though his was almost over the top.

“And what kind of a weird thing do you have in mind? Besides, my skill is something like an illusion, but I need a beast’s blood to get it going. I tested it on those horned killer bunnies,” she explained with a shrug. “Though if there’s rubble falling regularly, scouting out the ruins might not be as helpful.” Ann frowned slightly, making a mental note that not only were there skeletons to look forward to, the castle ruin's environment was going to be hazardous as well. She also memorized what little information he had about the ruin, pondering over whether it were possible to make an efficient plan for such a potentially chaotic venture.

Katrin nodded at Tien’s suggestion, and was just about to make off on her own and get to recruiting, when two females approached, both shorter than her, one a blonde with light blue eyes, while the littlest one appeared rather boyish with her short black hair. The dark-haired one was also the one to address them, and Kat smiled a pleased smile at the fortuitous encounter. “I met up with Tien over here,” she began, nodding at the male besides her “because I overheard that same conversation. We intend to go to the southern castle ruins, kill some skeletons, and most importantly, try and get some riches while doing so, yes.”

“My name is Ann-Katrin,” she introduced herself, and stuck out her right hand to the boyish female, though she’d offer it to the blonde right after as well. “And if you happen to be in a bit of a pinch for money, as I am, this adventure is a good opportunity for all of us to get more than the daily grind provides. Interested?”

Korrey Brooks

Korrey blinked as the nurse suddenly pulled a bell out a rang it, followed by a bunch of rapid-fire gestures that he could only assume was some kind of sign language. Given that she could hear him, she wasn't deaf so she must have trouble talking. Probably has something to do with those burns. His thoughts were soon interrupted when Gil spoke up to translate, causing Korrey to give him a quick nod of thanks in return before turning back to the burned nurse.

"Get some medicine, huh? Sounds more than doable tho. . . either of you wouldn't happen to have some supplies I could take with me on the journey? It's not necessary at all, but I doubt I'll be able to make it back here before dark given the time, and from what I hear, traveling the roads during the night isn't exactly a smart plan. Not asking for much, just something like a bedroll, maybe something sturdy and metal in case I get jumped by anything nasty. This stick I got with me will do in a pinch but I'd feel a lot better if I had something that was actually meant for wacking things, ya feel?" As he spoke, the tall youth walked over to a less cluttered area of the building to start doing a gamut of warm-up exercises and stretches, cracking several bones all over his body as he ready himself for a run, almost like he was in track and field again. "That being said, I totally understand if you don't got anything to spare, given how you all seem to have your hands full with these poor bastards. Whatever the case, I'll try to come back as soon as I can and with the medicine as well if possible."

Finished with his stretches and warm-up Korrey turned to Gil with a big grin, smacking a fist to his chest to emphasize his point. Holding the pose for a second or two, his face suddenly grew thoughtful as he let his hands fall to his sides. "Now that I think about it, anything else I should be aware of about the journey or this guy I'm supposed to find?"

Okay she couldn't speak but Gil seemed like he knew the ins and outs anyway. He could only recognize it as sign language, but nothing else, save that they needed some help.

Gil mentioned the medicine and from the looks of it, he already expected the two of them to more or less go get it. Jacob's nose crinkled at the thought, he wanted to help a woman, not go on a quest. But- maybe this is what he was waiting for anyway. Nothing much else to do save beg for money, hunt or do other bits of labor which was very little. They might even get some money out of it. Korrey seemed to speak his mind and thus Jacob didn't really need to say anything. He did however realize he was out of this conversation.

"The same for me then. Food, water, a coin to spare." He held up a hand then looked over at Korrey. "Double the hands, half the work. If you don't mind company." He said with a little bit of reserved gusto. Jacob had no where near the spirit as this guy who seemed to be itching for a fight. One of those warrior types, he got it. The man was even doing excercises. Nothing seemed out of place, but that might be just the voices telling him that.

He looked back to Gil. "A map, or rumors of the roads would be nice too." Rumors generally had a spark of fact to them, and if bandits case the roads, then guess what, they're going to have to fight some bandits. Life is supposed to be interesting, so best prepare for it.

Saying Étoile was mildly annoyed that this Rei had only just noticed her was putting it lightly. She had half a mind to tell him off, but the whole celebrity status thing really only benefitted her in her own world. So as much as she loved to see the realization hit their faces as they realize who exactly she was, it wasn't going to do her much here. She supposed the least she could do was return the introduction, but then he showed her the crossbow sketch.

"Mmm...crossbow, huh," Her intrigue was clear, at least. "More of a melee fighter myself, but if it floats your boat, then good for you, I guess.

Saying Magnolia was interesting was not giving her justice; that otherworldly aura of hers had intrigued Étoile. She clicked her tongue for a moment, trying to decide what to do.

"Well, she seems like the type of lady that knows what she's talking about. Maybe she could answer some questions or look into her fortune-telling orb that'll tell me what to do in this backwater-fantasy world." She said, lazily beckoning Rei to follow her, though she stopped after a few paces. "Since you introduced yourself first...I'm Étoile. Let's go.

“I... I'm Lexa. This is Emilia.”

Lexa's words weren't the most formal of greetings, but in this kind of situation she didn't have much premeditation. The girl in front of her was more comfortable than she apparently was and instead of being cautious seemed to be interested in pursuing the skeletons. Lexa's conversation with Emilia had led them to the conclusion that they might've been able to stop the man from jumping into the fray before he left town, but Lexa was beginning to doubt that was even possible since he had found someone who wanted to go with him to fight skeletons and find treasure. Logically speaking, confidence would rise as companions were found in such gambits.

“We were hoping to convince someone to not run off to their deaths.” She paused. “But if that were... impossible... I suppose the opportunity would suggest more viability in strength in numbers.”

Where the Wallflowers Bloom

The Love Problems of Drunkards
@Inertia@Hero

Finishing watching the very sad and pathetic drunks cry, Étoile and Rei had decided to visit the fortune teller after their conversation. Entering the sandwiched building, they parted the thick fabric door and entered. What had awaited them was nothing but darkness; what little glow entered could revealed the wooden floorboard, but vanished as the fabric settled. Surrounded by complete darkness, the duo was initially disoriented until a voice pierced the confusion.

"Welcome, moon and star."

A single blue flame formed from nothing in the center at the room. No bigger than one's fist, it revealed very little of the room, save for a small wooden table and the figure sitting behind. Up close, Magnolia's presence was considerably easier to discern. Layers of thin fabrics draped on her body managed to conceal most of her motions, yet still leave her figure to be viewed unabidable. Her face was concealed by a black veil attached to a circlet far more ornate than a hokey town like this.

"I've been expecting you."

Her hand moved over the table, her sleeve dragging along the surface, only to reveal a crystal ball resting on the table.

"You've come a long way. Care to reveal your fate?"

Cliffside Medicine

The Inevitable
@Raijinslayer

Gil listened intently to the requests of the duo. "Not really much coin we can spare here," he apologized, "so doing this is more of an act of charity. But I think we can part with a few supplies."

He took a break from caring for his patients and entered an adjacent room. After a few moments, he came back out holding a rudimentary cloth bag. Rather, it was more of a blanket tied into a bag with some rope. Even though the bag was barely a quarter full, it held some bare necessities: a large canteen, a small brick of food that looked as though it were a bizarre love child of mush and jerky wrapped in parchment, two torches, a finger-sized stick of iron and a sharp piece of flint, and a plain kitchen knife tied to a broom handle.

"That's all we can spare for now. Feel free to keep them. Oh, except the knife. We only have two of them and we're still trying to find the other one. As for the path, it shouldn't be too hard. There's a worn out dirt road that splits every so often. It leads right out of the closest gate. Just keep on the left most path and, whatever you do, don't ignore the paths and head straight north. On the leftmost path, about three and a half hours in, you should reach a mountainous pass. You know, mountain on one side, cliff on the other. Just continue up for an hour and a half and you should reach that hermit's house. If it gets too late, feel free to stay the night. That weirdo's fine with company."

Gil went back to look after the patients, continuing his observations and check-ups.

"Not really much about the journey. Goblins inhabit the wilds, but the guards usually clear all of them from paths. The medicine man is a bit of a basket case, the small, pushy nurse stifled a laugh, but he's harmless. Oh, and good luck."
_______________________________________

After leaving the city, Korrey had found himself on the path to the hermit. His partner in crime had gotten cold feet, choosing to stay safe in the confines of the town. All that was left for Korrey was to travel.

His small journey had lead him past acres of farmland. Cows, horses, and pigs all roamed freely within enclosed pastures while fields of golden wheat warmed the land around them. If it weren't for the occasional guard walking the same path as he was, he wouldn't have seen a single soul. The farmland, however, didn't continue forever. By the time he had reached the fork in the road, the wheat had been replaced by untamed vegetation. Bushes of berries, thin trees, and traces of wild animals had given the path a more dangerous appearance. Hidden behind the trees left of the fork, the summit of a mountain barely managed to break the treeline. It was a long walk, but the mountain was his destination. That was to say, unless something happened.

About thirty minutes into the forest, a singular goblin holding an undersized club stood in the middle of the path leapt out at Korrey. It was ready for a fight and was eyeballin' the loot that Korrey held.

"Hell yea," Tien said, "geomancy is all about strength. It's also not really good up from a distance, so you gotta get in everthing's face. Hence, maul." Tien made a bizarre motion, as if he was unsheathing an invisible weapon and using his free hand to outline the non-existent hammer. "And I'm not really thinking of anything weird? But uh, if you're psychic, I apologize. Anyways, I was talking about why you'd need an animal, but you explained it, so you pretty much removed any sort of comedic confusion about the situation. So uh, illusion blood bag. I can quickly grab one on the way." He put two thumbs up and aimed them behind him.

When approached by two more women, his energetic, over the top face shot straight to the moon. He had a dumbass grin, contrasting with his "cool" face.

"Not skeleton hunting, treasure hunting. Yea, what Kat said was all right. Except the ruins are more southeast. If you go straight south, you end up in a real tough spot, so don't do that. He paused for a hot second then looked at Lexa. "That woman's just a worry wart. It ain't running to your death unless you die! Since you guys seem to have your junk in order, let's meet up at the south gate in about twenty minutes so I can grab all of my shit! If you ghost me, I'll be a very sad man!"

One Boy vs A Few Hundred Skeletons

An Old Man and His Guitar
@eRode

With a newly acquired bat in hand, Nano was prepared to smash bone skulls. Besides the bizarre looks he had gotten from onlookers, disturbed that he would even think to use the sacred man-portal-fountain to quench a hot piece of wood, nobody was really impressed by him messing around with his wood in public.

The trip southeast was uneventful. Following the paths was always boring. Besides the occasional greeting from a guard or farmer, it was entirely boring. About 15 minutes out on his journey, the farmland vanished into rolling plains. While Nano was a good 45 minutes away, the ruins were still visible—even if it was only a solitary black blip in the distance.

Arriving at the ruins, the great stone architecture was humbling. Half destroyed buildings had sunken within the ground, pillars had been toppled, and statues had been defaced by weather and adventurers. The largest structure was, of course, the castle. Still remaining (mostly) above ground, the castle was a testament of
whoever made it. While the main entrance had been collapsed, it was—or at least seemed—possible to scale it. Towards the left of the castle was a ladder, toppled over by wind. It seemed to be barely high enough to climb into a tower's window. On the right wall was a hole. Brick had been pushed out from the inside.

All that was left was his plan of attack.

Despite the uneventful nature of his walk, Nano was surprisingly busy. He had confined himself to the town for his entire duration thus far in Rengoku, almost never venturing outside the walls, and now that the ashen-haired youth was free to stretch his legs, he certainly did enjoy the journey. A bright greeting was given freely to those who he met on the road, and when he was alone on the plains, he filled the ambient silence with rudimentary whistling. Off-tune and not particularly indicative of any song at all, it nevertheless comforted him and warned off any human-adverse animals. Too much silence wasn’t good for one’s psyche, and it was with a comfy, confident jaunt that he strode towards the ruins.

The ruins were certainly a sight to behold up close, if only for its tenacity. Rubbing a finger against the moss-lined pillars, Nano scanned his surroundings carefully, committing each detail to memory while taking out his leather-bound book out to mark out a couple details that couldn’t be explained with words alone. It was certainly a wonderful place, wasn’t it? With a sigh, Nano hefted his backpack up a bit higher, before rolling his shoulders and stretching out his arms. The club rested against his right shoulder, while his dinky knife remained secured on his left hip. He picked up a few small rocks and stuffed it in his pockets, before taking in a deep breath and heading towards the hole in the wall.

Closing his eyes first, Nano pressed against the wall, trying to listen for the purported bone-rattling that apparently gave away the presence of the undead, before peeking into the hole for further examination. After that, he slipped off his backpack and stepped into the dilapidated castle, leaving the pack outside while he confirmed how safe the immediate entrance was.

If it was fine, great! If it was already crawling with skeletons, then he wouldn’t be all that encumbered if he decided to pick a fight with them. Easy peasy, eh?

Maybe he shoulda scrounged up some better armor though...

## Miya ##

Crops gently waved in the breeze that ran through the farmland on the outskirts of the city of Rengoku. A bright, calm day without much of anything going on. The road running alongside the endless acres was tread by few that day, but some managed to find a reason to walk it. One of these was a young woman, clad in an old leather coat with a staff tied to her back, calmly pacing forwards. She held a small wolf-puppy with white fur in her arms as she walked. It was resting peacefully against her chest, kept nice and comfy through a small opening in the coat.

Truthfully, Miya didn't have to carry her summon around in the way she did. The wolf could be a spirit and follow her just fine, not being bound to the laws of the physical realm. Still, there was something charming about the little creature. It was excitable and energetic, more full of life than some real animals. It also just kept Miya company and she was sure that the summon enjoyed being material more than it did ethereal. The wolf pup suddenly got restless in her arms, wriggling and jumping out onto the road before starting to sniff it furiously.

"...Hm? What is it, Snow?"

Miya crouched down and looked into the eyes of her pet, the summon responding with a high-pitched bark. Snow turned and ran forward a little, only to look back as if to beckon her master to follow. Miya blinked twice, but decided to follow along anyway. She'd only intended to go on a walk to relieve some boredom, but this wasn't the first time her small companion dragged the both of them into something. After all, it was only a day or two ago when Snow had spotted an animal fleeing from its pen as the fence was broken. Chasing after it, the both of them managed to return to a grateful farmer who offered Miya a meal in exchange for her kindness. She figured that the pup picked up on something like that again.

The duo soon found themselves in a forest, luckily while still able to follow the path, where they could spot a figure in the distance. It was tough to make out as some of the trees obscured Miya's vision, but she could see a robed individual staring down a small, unidentifiable creature from her distance. Snow started to growl, which is how the summoner knew that they'd reached their target.

"Shh, Snow... let's just watch for now."

Miya wasn't sure why her puppy was so intrigued by the man, but she could tell that whatever he was staring down wasn't friendly. She could help if it looked like he was in trouble, but as long as neither of them noticed her she could observe to see how dangerous things got.

Entering the building was disorienting, to say the least. With the distinct smell of incense and the darkness of the room making Rei lose his bearings. He squinted his eyes, looking for something tangible he could see before a voice spoke against the darkness. The voice was oddly fitting considering the mystique of the situation. His hand unconsciously gripped his crossbow, he paced slowly toward the voice.

"Welcome, moon and star."

"Moon and Star, huh?" Rei whispered to no one in particular. The blue flame drew his gaze. From what little the flame illuminated, Magnolia looked very similar to a stereotypical gypsy portrayed by Hollywood. It was a little amusing. Her hand moved above a circular object with a peculiar shine. At the very least the situation piqued his interest.

"I've been expecting you. You've come a long way. Care to reveal your fate?"

"Oh, have you? Well. It wouldn't hurt. What do you think Étoile?" he said, keeping it to himself that she found her words curious. Particularly the 'come a long way' bit, because as far as he could tell, he hadn't left this town at all. It might be worth listening to this woman after all.

Emilia nodded in response as Lexa introduced them to Tien and Ann-Katrin. It seemed Ann-Katrin was just as likeminded to Tien, being eager to charge into the castle ruins, but most importantly, a possible death. Nonetheless, whilst they came here to try and convince someone to not straight off to their death, Lexa had a point. Should they be unavailable to convince Tien, and now Ann-Katrin, from backing out of their quest, the second best option would be to accompany them to their destination to ensure that they don't get themselves killed fighting skeletons or whatever might be lurking in the castle ruins.

Still, such matters meant that Emilia would be risking her life, too. Emilia knew she was a coward, mainly for her desire to avoid dying alone again, but as her gaze turned to Lexa, there was always a nagging feeling inside that she just couldn't scratch—one that she just couldn't ignore for the life of her.

"I think you may be taking that statement a bit too literal, Tien," She spoke, pausing for a moment. "However, if... if Lexa is willing, then I'll join you all on your quest." Emilia continued, waiting for their response. Tien and Ann-Katrin seemed rearing to go, but Lexa still appeared somewhat unsure, at least to Emilia.

She only hoped she didn't make the wrong decision.

Peering through the immediate entrance didn't confer much insight to Nano. To the right of the hole was collapsed brick; half of the castle wall had been blocked off. The left side was still open, however, allowing him to enter. Once he entered, all sound seemed to hush. The soft winds that blew tall grass had vanished and left nothing to hear. There was too little to hear. It was eerily quiet, the only noises coming from the boy. Each footstep that Nano made seemed to reverberate throughout the castle. His own breath filled his ears. If he had stopped moving and held his breath, it was almost certain that he would hear his blood move through his body.

Breaking the silence was a creaking rattle. Nano's eyes had been adjusting to the darkness and—thanks to the occasional crack in brick—could see his surroundings. The ground was filled with bones. At least a dozen skulls, eight sternums, four legs, and more arms than Nano could count.

It was rather hard to discern why there were so many arms, but it was certain whoever owned this castle in the past had an army.

Not a single piece of equipment was left on the ground. Besides the dust, dirt, and bones, it was extraordinarily clean. One would expect trash left from adventurers who entered to clear skeletons, but there was nothing left.

Up ahead, however, was four skeletons. They seemed to be uninterested in patrolling or doing anything. In fact, Nano wasn't sure if they were even animated. They were all sitting, lying down, or looking away. By moving quickly, Nano could use piles of fallen brick as cover to proceed past them.

It looked like the site of a mass burial. Or maybe just the site of inconsiderate adventurers not shifting destroyed skeletons out of the way. Still, even this deathly silence was enjoyable, and Nano continued his slow steps through the castle ruins, his eyes widening only when four intact skeletons appeared around the corner. Stopping, Nano tilted his head at their unmoving nature, before removing one of the stones in his pockets. He kept to the walls, speedwalked towards the cover of those fallen bricks, and, once he was out of sight, tossed a rock over in the general direction of those skeletons before waiting for a reaction.

The coal-eyed youth could, of course, have simply slipped past them, but if he was going to have to run away through the same path back, he certainly didn’t want to crash into any ‘living’ skeletons along the way.

“Yeah, with the four of us, there’s no need to worry about certain death. Either way, if the situation seems too dangerous, we can always escape,” Ann assured Lexa and nodded approvingly at Emilia. She then waved at Tien lazily “Alright, see you at the south gate in 20 minutes.”

After the geomancer left, Katrin refocused on the two other females with a winning smile. “If you’ve decided to go along, it would be best that we share our abilities with each other. Maybe even think up a way we can best work together. I’m not so sure Tien is the type to think about tactics when he can afford to just rush straight in and fight head-on. Well, as long as he distracts all the enemies, that works out well for me,” she trailed off, looked past the girls in contemplation for a moment or two, then blinked.

“Oh, sorry,” she smirked wryly at both Lexa and Emilia “I still have to think about my skills, since I’m kinda new to this whole fighting thing. No need to worry though, because we can just plan a good way out and we should be fine even if the skeletons turn out to be too much. Let’s just start with my skills, yeah? I can easily get rid of any unsuspecting skeletons and I can knock down any that get too close to me. There’s also some kind of an illusion with which I can appear like something else as long as I got its fresh blood. Sounds creepy, I know, but it’s good for scouting. How about the two of you?” Kat cocked her head minutely to the side, switching her gaze from Lexa to Emilia and back every once in a while, both to assess how each of them was feeling and as a conscious attempt to make them both feell included.

Korrey Brooks

"Tch. . . How can anyone just up and bail like that just because he heard they weren't going to get any cash?" Korrey kicked a rock as he traveled down the forest path, his staff slung over his shoulders as he recalled how Jacob had cut and run before they had even started. He'd thought it was a bit odd when the guy suddenly asked the doc for some kind of payment for what was essentially just a short errand, but to just leave after seeing the state of all of those people was unforgivable to the red-haired giant. "I should've knocked his damn teeth in."

Needless to say, he was more than a little pissed off by this turn of events, and was considering taking it out on some nearby trees when he noticed a figure ahead of him. It was a weird little guy, and while obviously not a person, was just human-looking enough to give him the creeps. Not only that, but it was giving him a look that he was more than familiar with. That was the look of someone who wanted something and wasn't too bothered about taking it. Now whatever it was this short green midget though Korrey had, he for damn sure wasn't about to roll over and let him take it. So as the thing came at him, he was quick to meet him, intending to use his range advantage by lashing out with a heavy kick to the goblin's middle and essentially punting it away. After that, he'd whip around his staff and ready it up to start wacking the little fucker if he tried to come at him again.

"Listen here biddy, I"m not in the best of moods right now so. . . if you don't wan tme to turn you into to green paste, I suggest you run along before I really start laying into you."
