@NarcissisticPotato
I haven't actually bought it/played it. My friends tell me its a bunch of fun and infinite is just a re-skin of the last 3 games. Last one I actually played was Black ops 1 and I was given it by my sis(as punishment for my nephew).

@Shoryu Magami
A lot of people see the stereotypical mouthy preteen as the general population. Honestly though a lot of average joes who just got out of the office/construction site/School/Duty and just want to drink three beers and shoot some pixels. That's what most of my friends do, although Im not very old and these people I know are all under the age of 23. If you want story and some depth, COD is not your thing!

And Warhammer, oh my. There is a reason I usedto play it. It so whacky and goretastic. Most of there novels are just murderporn, but of course I was into that shit as a kid. What kid doesn't like playing/reading about badasses and their badass battles? It is also actually what made me get into more of the story in novels and even writing. While im not a Writer by any sense, me being able to enjoy and contribute in a RP(such as the ones on this forum) is such a jump from what was. It also made me a nerd in the sense of all video games, since I love reading the lore about almost all games I play.

But... yeah so Pariah and stuff.

@Thecrash20
I know people who play CoD who aren't mouthy preteens, even if I've heard many stories of those types as well. I wasn't stereotyping the players, and neither was my fiancΓ©. All that's been expressed is a distaste for the franchise on both of our parts, and nothing more. I'm not a fan of FPS games period, to be honest with you. The exact same applies to Warhammer -- I like badasses having their badass battles, but that setting doesn't interest me at all personally. There shouldn't be a problem with that.

I'm a writer before a role-player, so I have more appreciation for the details in a narrative than all the politics that seems to pop up whenever role-players don't agree on something. There's very good reasons why I'm against being a part of website communities, and those reasons could make me decide to leave this site at any given moment as well. On the subject of Pariah - which is what each of my posts has been primary focused on, outside of idle talk, for anyone who thinks I'm trying to change the subject - if you actually enjoy the lore of video games then you shouldn't have complaints about someone wanting to flesh out that sort of lore for a role-play, especially one which is based largely off of video games or anime inspired by them.

Anyway, you all enjoy yourselves. I've got stuff to do.

Though my main points about the theoretical system lie in the slightly tipsy looking mess under the hider. I swear I was sober when I wrote it though.

Heyy, just found this interest check after Potato mentioned it in the other one. Just wanted to say that I'm here too!

Is the character sheet just gonna be the same as Aether Online's one, or will it be different?

Here’s what I told @cloudystarβ€”

I will be changing to a CS format that fits my requirements, yes. But not much will likely change, but yeah. Mostly.

Applications will be open once the thread launchesβ€” have no idea what amount of players we’re looking for yet. More info to come.

My general opinion Gowi... ignore any criticisms. You can make your plot any way you so wish. If anyone has a problem with your ideas they can start their own thread.

Further, if you ask me, your Virtual Gaming system feel a lot like the Oblivion video game. There are no classes there either. You want to get stronger you lift things. You want to be a better swimmer you jump in a river or lake and move about. You want to be good with a sword you pick one up and whack some goblins.

Class systems have a bad habit of getting in the way during a role-play anyway. I understand why people sometimes need them in an MMORPG in order to create a semblance of structure to the game's system, but I think a more fleshed out system like this works more ideally for a piece of writing. Honestly, I don't particularly like class systems at all -- it makes more sense to have the characters be proficient at whatever they choose to master, rather than just say 'oh, you use a sword -- you're a knight then and you can't possibly use magic'.

The Elder Scrolls is a good example of what he's doing here, yeah -- too bad that franchise's MMORPG didn't follow suit.

Alright, for a little updateβ€” I’m expecting myself to be ready to get the OOC up at the latest by this weekend and the earliest… by tomorrow. I’ve been outlining key points I need to clarify in the opening post such as the BAA system and potential factions. I know everyone is excited to get β€œto work” per se, but converting tertiary thoughts and concepts this quickly has been particularly daunting on me. If there any critical points you need me to go over, this would be the time and place to mention them.

So far here is what my outline looks like:

➟ Introducing Players to Pariah

➟ The Benchmark, Achievement, and Attribute System (BAA)

➟ Threat Assessment

➟ Synopsis of the Setting

➟ Factions & Guilds

➟ General Lore

➟ Dungeons & Adventuring

If anything is specifically missing do let me know.

@Gowi
I was meaning to ask this earlier but are we limiting people to one character?

This entirely depends on what the plot calls for and the amount of acceptable characters we accept into the game. However, with that said I’ve always held the motto of β€œas many as you can handle” but generally such territory goes to GM perspective and opinion of said player. I am completely open to the idea of people playing two or even three characters, but there is a point of reason with it. After fifteen years of role-playing I’ve experienced firsthand what excessive character creation can lead and I am especially guilty of itβ€” so I’m really wary of people who claim they can handle four consistent character’s at a single time and so forth.

Hiya, Gowi!

I'll definitely be writing a character for this, and playing them if you'll have me around. As a self-proclaimed psychonaut and student of philosophy, this particularly new idea of the VRMMORPG being less of a game and more of a new reality really intrigues me. Though, I do have one question!

A normal hour in the real world could therefore be the equivalent of days or months in the synthetic world and people can feel like it is less of a time-sink like traditional VR products or MMOs of the 21st Century.

I have a fair bit of experience with recreationally taking substances that messed with my perception of time, making a few minutes feel like forever (going to do something that barely took a few minutes, I'd come back and feel like I had been gone for a while, asking others if I'd been gone for long), and one of the things I most particularly remember is how hard it became to recall things that happened the day before a trip, even if it was just yesterday. It was like trying to remember what I'd done a month ago.
So, as you might be able to guess, my question involves the idea that days or months could be passed in-game for only a few hours in real life. Would this have effects on players in the real world, such as making it hard to remember things, feeling old, etc., or do you have a workaround?

EDIT: For the record, I do not advocate drug use. Mandatory disclaimer.

I have not exactly crossed the psychological ramifications, but if the RP goes into that I will most certainly let everyone know. I do have some ideas, but nothing concrete at the moment.

As for everyone else, yes, this is still happening it was just a VERY busy weekend for me.
