Bio

Hey, there. Myst here, as you've probably guessed. Can't exactly write in other people's bios, can you? But, you're probably reading this for a reason, so I'll get to it.

I prefer high-Casual and Advanced games, in a medieval, fantasy or sci-fi setting, because that's the sort of nerd I am.

I'm a thinker - I've thought a lot on certain things, and am firm in my beliefs. So you could ask me what I thought about a good few things and I could give a well-reasoned answer. Or a less reasoned answer based on my morals.

TheCharactersOfMyst - This is my storage for past and present characters, and where I might occasionally go for nostalgia and/or recycling a character I've used before.

@Tangletail Well, you've got me excited now... so even if it's not your first character, I expect it to be your second after the first has their untimely demise, of course

@Goldmarble An even number is surely odd to have. I don't mind at all, no worries.

@LordOfTheNight Yes, for the most part. You start with 8 in each category, but you have a maximum of 15 per category; additionally, while to go from 8 to 13 is 5 points, 14 is 7 points, and 15 is 9 points. Racial bonuses are separate from this, so I'd advise keeping those in mind (they are the only way to get a 16 or 17 at 1st level). If you have difficulty keeping track, I use this website to do all the things for me. Just select your race/subrace and it'll do the thing for you.
@LordOfTheNight Everyone starts somewhere! I reckon I'm pretty good at helping new players ease into things, and we do seem to have other experienced people here, so if there are any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

@Dogematix I feel ya, man. I really feel you... sorry, I'll keep my hands to myself. But yeah, if you want in, all you have to do is apply!

So, there are a good nine people interested in this game - and I'm really only willing to take six players, seven at a stretch, much as I hate to turn someone away. However, I assure you, I will give each of you fair consideration when the character sheets start to come in - I'll be adding the code and an example into the original post in the next couple of days. I advise you to start thinking about your characters now. And I can't stress this enough - make me want to know the character. Your character doesn't need to be fully fleshed out right away, but the basic concept is vital. Interesting is investing, and if you have a hook/want me to provide one, all the better.

Some basic info;
  • We're going by 27-point buy rules here for your Ability Scores - if you don't know what that means, say so and I'll explain.
  • All races, class options, backgrounds from the Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, Elemental Evil, and Volo's Guide to Monsters (plus Tortle Package) are permitted, excluding the Yuan-Ti and Triton races.
  • Anything from UA, Mordenkainen's, Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron, and Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica are not permitted. Homebrew content is also disfavourable, but if you really want to use homebrew content, PM me the details and I'll consider it.
  • Anything I consider to be too dark or too inappropriate will not be considered. There are some general topics which you should probably steer clear of; use your imagination.
  • I will not be accepting characters on a first come, first serve basis. Speed helps, yes, but nobody has the exact same schedule.
  • You are free to make multiple characters, but for the initial application, you may only submit one.

The Tyranny Of Dragons

The town of Greenrest was founded by the halfling Dharva Scatterheart, a rogue who fancied herself the queen of the Greenfields. Scatterheart passed away without ever achieving that level of eminence, but her town grew into a thriving community. Its success isn't surprising, since Greenrest is the only town of any size astride the Uldoon Trail, the most direct road between the eastern cities of the Dragon Coast, Cormyr, and Sembia with the Coast Way running south to the great cities of Amn, Tethyr, and far Calimshan. The trade caravans that pass through Greenrest bring gold to the town's merchants, and Governor Nighthill runs the town at the behest of the inhabitants. This is your destination

You, the players, have been hired as guards by a brother and sister - Sebastian and Cassandra, who look to be young humans, joined your journey with theirs in Baldur's Gate. One way or another, you have found yourself in their employ. Perhaps Cassandra saw you practising your spellcraft in the streets. Perhaps Sebastian caught you trying to steal from their room. Perhaps they approached you after you alone stood as the victor of a bar fight. How matters little. But who is a question you've yet to find an answer to. And they've promised to pay extra for your silence. After all, thirty gold each is no small sum.

You headed south from Baldur's Gate, headed for Greenrest by way of Candlekeep - which Sebastian visited briefly, though you did not stay for long. Ever since, you have been travelling along the road, with the only threat being merchants and peddlers hoping to sell you something as you crossed paths. Only one more day remains until you reach the town of Greenrest... and a warm meal, a soft bed, and a town to explore.

Hiya... so, I'm a relatively experienced player of D&D, and I say that because I have an excellent understanding of most of the mechanics, but I've played in/ran only a small handful of games. And this would be my first time attempting to run a play-by-post game, so I can't guarantee fancy maps or anything of the sort; if any maps at all ^^;

I can promise that I will try to keep things detailed, engaging, and fun; I believe myself to be a talented writer, and that has translated to other forms of RP on the website. I do have real life obligations, and they sometimes occupy my mind to the point where I forget to check the guild. However, if this does garner enough interest, I have no intention of leaving my players hanging.

The Tyranny of Dragons is a published Wizards of the Coast adventure that comes in two parts - Hoard of the Dragon Queen is the first part and is the beginning of your journey. There's actually already a game running here on the guild. The adventure as a whole will take you from 1st level to 15th. I welcome players both old and new, and I'm okay with most any content officially released by WOTC, so if you want to apply, run it by me, first.

I also operate on a strict Game-Info-is-Need-To-Know; the information I have detailing the basis of the game will be mine and mine alone until the story dictates it is yours to know. I will give you, as players, some knowledge regarding the world around you and what will happen in the game, as well as answering any questions about things you've gone through in the past. Backstories and character elements need to be approved by me, and you'll need to provide a copy of a character sheet in the thread or through a Private Message (PDFs, Myth-Weavers, and DiceCloud are all good options). There are story traits that you can take in addition to your character; if you would like to tie your character more closely to the story, and not just be a character that appeared incidentally, let me know.

Player Application Forms - Under Construction

If you would like to apply, please let me know in the actual Interest check over here; roleplayerguild.com/topics/177896-d-d…
@Ambra I have no rule saying players can’t be friends. I may regard your applications as separate for the sake of your applying, and presumably you have separate accounts; I’ll need them to notify me themselves, as well.
Tentative interest; I've a few other things that I need to catch up on and a few new ones starting, so just wanna make sure I don't spread myself too thin before committing.

No worries! I don’t know when I’m going to start this yet, but the first chapter will take a few weeks at least, I reckon. If we don’t have max players and you’re still able and willing, then you and I can drop your character in at a reasonable point.
While this feline might be part of the very group already running this adventure module, I still am certainly interested in having another topic to pursue with a different character or angle. I truly do wish there were more tabletop games here on the forum and I haven't met my reasonable limit of games to commit to, so I see no issue in posing interest here.

Thank you very much for showing interest! However, your involvement in the other group does make me a little hesitant - you will have to prove to me that you will not use the knowledge that you already have for unfair advantage in this game. I will likely be running things slightly differently to them, most notably in the first chapter - and if your adventure started off in the same chapter, then you might understand why what I’m planning for that particular level of difficulty whilst keeping things within the beat of the story (Sebastian and Cassandra, for example, are not part of the original content).

However, I am willing to consider you, because I, too, think there are not enough tabletop games in the world, and I’d be a fool to turn away a willing player.
Oh, I'm certainly interested. And that is quite the disclaimer to read.

Did you wish to run this through discord, or Post by Post on the forums?

And don't worry about being a new Dungeon Master. We all start somewhere. At least you didn't have to suffer the DM newcomer's struggle like I did in 3.5. Fun days... when you had to search a book because someone wanted to clime a sheer surface that was wet but had holds large enough for a fingers. (DC 18)

I’m not quite a new Dungeon Master. Like I said, I have run games before, and most games I’ve played have been online, so it won’t be my first time with strangers on the Internet (), and I have written in RPs. It will be my first attempt at Play-By-Post, though.

I'll throw in a bit of interest. Hopefully this game makes it past post 3.

That’s certainly the plan
