"Hmm...nothing specific for the time being, though for now perhaps some social classes would suffice as a base. From there we can perhaps have some chats over the matter, hmm? But for now this information is suitable. My thanks~" the smooth voice of Arianna said to Ms. Naomi, before politely moving away with a sway in her step, so other students could come up and ask questions. Albeit, a few of the others seemed to be glancing at her from the crowd still as she moved. She could tell it instinctually.
However, she hoped her darling new partner was doing well herself, and listening to that warning at that from last night. As much as she felt she could be the jealous sort, this not being something to ever admit in public though, but at the same time it had been a sincere thing for genuine reasons. Adoration could become obsession......but realistically that obsession could become possessiveness and such unscrupulous things that were dangerous among either vampires or humans....or even mages for that matter. She would know.
This being said, she wanted to catch up with Lilie later, perhaps, once they all had free time and all that back at their lodging. Truthfully, she'd felt the other girl out with some vulnerability last night, to see what she'd be like and seek to kick things off on a genuine note. In reality, Lilie seemed to be a...gentle sort, if those words summed it up right about that aspect of her perhaps. The kind who perhaps had issues to work through....some things perhaps worse than the vampiress' own issues potentially. Ah. She could merley text Lilie about later, rather than openly going about it all? They could even do another spar as they had earlier, which had been enjoyable as she'd seen that fire in the mage's eyes! Further, she herself hadn't had a good opponent in a long time....rather long time really.
Pulling out her phone from a side pocket, Arianna quickly sent a text, before putting it back into her pocket once more on the vibrate mode. The text said the following:
'Dear Lilie, i most enjoyed our fencing practice earlier! I hope you also enjoyed the breakfast i made, though if i need to touch up those skills you can tell me without worry. At any rate, i do hope you are enjoying your time with the other mages. Made any new friends?
Beyond this, i was thinking perhaps we could do some more some more practice later tonight, and after such talk some more as well! It would be most delightful, truly, and perhaps i could make you dinner too. I look forward to hearing back from you as soon as you can respond to this, my dear~'
Arianna didn't think twice on the text, though a small smile briefly flashed on her face at the thought of spending more time with Lilie. It wasn't a predatory sort of expression, but perhaps a flash of the vampiress underneath the title of "Countess" for the first time in a while. But Arianna even so still continued on her chosen action for now, looking about the room for individuals she would find....interesting enough to chatter about with briefly to kill some time. It was then she noticed a pair of figures near each other, both distinct in her eyes after last night's ceremony. Her smile becoming a more aristocratic now, but in the elegant, gentle manner, Arianna walked over to where Amaris and Varis, her aura of regality and nobility arriving ahead of her a bit.
"Well well well, it seems a a pair of certain someones are associating away from the more common crowd right now~ Fufufu~ And how would each the two of you be doing this fine night? Doing Wwll, i would hope."
"I...a-am not....a D-dark M-magical Girl...i just...work for...a Horror," Annabelle said, a small spike of adrenaline kicking into her as the sudden environment shift slightly spooked her, looking at Aurelio and speaking directly to him herself, albeit sound rather weak as she continued to bleed out of her cut stump...which now had chains sticking out of it to boot, "N-Now listen...to me....please...tell Beacon.....Soth...is p-planning s-something....big h-here. Leave...m-me alone...please...and...p-prepare everyone f-for it. I-I-If you...take me away....h-he will...kill everyone t-there. I-I went...to the s-stadium....wanting to help people....and h-h-he lied to...me...ah!"
Annabelle grit her teeth as she held onto consciousness, feeling even worse as the stump of her arm gushed out blood, and the area where the chains had emerged from burned red hot it seemed like. Her left hand weakly reached over to clutched the stump, trying and wanting the sensations from it to stop, a mentally pained expression on her face. This...pleasure, and other stupid things like how she was bleeding to death. that stupid Amaryllis trying to kill her....even when she'd tried to protect her! She didn't even try to fight her or anything, but that....that bitch had cut off her arm! That stupid bunch of goons that hadn't listened to her no matter what as well! That stupid archer had shot a hole in her side, which was also still bleeding right now to boot.
And her stupid boss...ah...the best she could do right now is give this magical boy a warning. Warning him what was to come, implore him to leave her alone for the safety of others....and to prepare people. Her boss seemed to be putting value on her...more than she'd heard many magical girls would get from their patrons otherwise. She'd rebelled against orders, yet he had shrugged it off without a second thought. He had never done that with other minions, she'd seen it in person. Sure even in such times like dealing out "punishment" for abysmal failures or rebellion, he was calm and sounded...strangely relaxed.
She had to know what was going on...the truth. Something didn't feel right, like a familiar yet alien feeling in her very bones by now. Already there had been fear for what he was doing....and the first fear she'd felt in a long time for people other than herself too with it. Regina. Elroy. The Beacon Buddies. Heh...how long had she dreamed of using the word "friend" to describe some people. Yet beyond this he had escalated, in a way he had never done in the past before. Even she couldn't say "no" directly to him, and leave...it was like he was bonded to her very power itself, her magic at its core.
"Ah...Ah!...AHHH!!!" Annabelle said, letting out noises before eventually screaming, her thinking interrupted by a sudden sensation she couldn't recall feeling before. Like hot, burning knives gouging into the bit of the upper-arm and should stump of a right arm she had left. It wasn't pleasure, nothing she could recall feeling before.......pain.
Pure, agonizing pain for the first time in what life she could ever remember. And it hurt more than anything.
The silver chains, glistening in the otherworldly light, began to darken bit by bit. This was no corruption, even a basic magical girl could see this. This was magic, darkness magic seeping into the chains, as if naturally consuming them...or perhaps assimilating them into itself. Was this a reaction to Annabelle's magic to the presence of another's power? Was this...Soth's doing potentially? There was perhaps no way to be sure, but for the mind-bent Annabelle to feel pain for the first time there had to be something going on. Something strange.
Continuing to scream as the chains became as dark as night, like the frayed nerves in her arm were on literal fire, it was a horrific sight to watch for any potential observer. Of course some might not find it horrifying...certain crowd might find such a thing pleasing to watch even. Yet as the darkness finally reached the cut ends of what had been Amaryllis' chains....it receded rapidly. The formerly silver chains were dark, ebon black, covered in small sharp spikes now. Spiky chains. Then where her stump was, A curved piece of silvery metal seemed to be attached, covering the bloody stump's end and the various black chains seemed to be sticking out of it from being attached somewhere within.
At this point Annabelle stopped screaming, her throat feeling rawer than even before as she look at her...what was this? Too tired to be shocked, but wondering what had just happened, the void-touched girl watched as the chains seemed to coat in darkness again, before they magically contracted towards the stump and folded. They formed the inky darkness-made shape of...an arm, which appeared like a metal, ebon black colored version of her old arm even. So eerily on point with the appearance of human anatomy, but looking so different than it. Overall it looked like she had a long black glove on her right arm, with a silvery metal-colored ring at the top.
As some blood still was coming out of her side, Annabelle raised her arm to look at it. It wasn't pointed at anyone, even Aurelio. Disbelief wrote itself into Annabelle's face as she rotated the arm, moved it. It felt...natural, as if it was part of her...an extension of herself she had been born with even. Sweat continued to run down the magical girl's face, before she let the arm fall to the ground again and her head fall back onto the ground.
Lying there, she didn't even feel she had the words to use right now. What had happened? Did her magic do this on its own or something?
????
The Faceless Bastard's warning over the stadium's intercom system was more than warranted. Penny's observations, however, would turn up...nothing, not even as a servant of destruction did this thing seem to have noticeable weak spots. Like some power beyond even magic had tainted the entire thing, seeping into it and causing it to become more and more erratic and unstable. However, one thing Penny might notice, or perhaps the others at that, was that the portal would eventually stop allowing grunts through. No more maimed bodies, no disfigured survivors emerging, no miraculously intact bodies to join the stadium fight. Wait, but why might that be the case? Had Soth not sent in more goons, or....?
An immense, utterly alien roar erupted from the portal, able to burst normal base human eardrums within the stadium's range as it rung through the stadium and into the city beyond. The very concrete and metal and walls of the stadium even quakedfrom the sound as it passed through them.
What....what was that?!
Then the portal seemed to after this suddenly stretch, widen, grow in size thanks to Penny having made room for it to do so. The portal reached up into the sky, unstable and flickering in the process, stretching up to the height and width of what seemed to be a ridiculous extent. Parts of the stadium in the way collapsed on that dugout's side, structural damage was notable....and then it stopped in place, far larger than it had been before. It was...horror-sized even when it came down to it.
Before any attempts to get to the portal could be made, a single, monstrous figure began to emerge from the portal. One hundred and sixty five meters tall, its very footsteps shook the ground as it stepped into the stadium proper....or rather what was left of it by this point. Already unstable structure due to its roar began to collapse the right side of the stadium the rest of the way as support crumbled and the ground creaked against its weight and cracked as easily as an eggshell.
its body was covered in many smaller, writhing tentacles, and more mouths and eyes than any of the goons had possessed before. Even many sets of smaller legs with cloven hooves stuck oddly and erratically out of its ebon-colored, shiny eldritch flesh. In fact, on closer inspection even from a distance, the truth was perhaps rather apparent. This thing was made out of goons, dozens, perhaps a couple hundred even, smashed together like Frankenstein's monster on steroids....Japanese kaiju-sized steroids.
On this monster's head all over were a set of gigantic eyes naturally fitting for a creature of its size and dimensions, with several giant mouths that seemed like freakish horror-monster zippers from hell....especially as a pair of very long, forked tongues licked came out of and licked each of them simultaneously. This was a greater horror, not on the level of Soth himself by the longest shot....but an amalgamation of lesser horrors had formed a greater horror had emerged into the world. And as soon as it fully entered the world, the portal finally dissipated into black particle behind it, scattered to the wind and disappearing.
At least...at least they didn't have to worry about more new lesser goons, right?
-Minor Boss Monster Has Emerged-
Type: Greater Horror
Designation/Name: Behemoth: General of the Infinite Abyss
***(NOTE: @Ariamis will be controlling this monster from here on out, as arranged prior with our dear GM themselves.
As she fell it was almost like a dream for a second, as the minor exhaustion from using that special ability hit her like a freight train. Perhaps she should have used something more minor? Heh. Not a chance in hell that those witches would have gotten less, at least in her point of view. She could almost imagine falling onto the roof, maybe her neck snapping....nah, that wouldn't happen. Star Platinum caught her hat as it fell off of her head, nabbing it midair before placing it securely back on its user's head and held it there. The normally stoic girl could feel the air rushing over her body as it fell through the air from the highest point of the church, like a cool breeze coming up from the inside was blowing over her.
A sly, small grin came into her face, however, as she noticed a blur in the air begin to form...and then closed her eyes. Then, as Nina had suspected, she felt herself grabbed...but more so than that she felt the feeling that she had stopped falling. She could then feel arms carrying her, as if they were...ah. So small, and yet they were carrying her. Opening her eyes, though her body felt like weighed down metal a bit still despite the feeling having begun to already fade, she chuckled at the face of someone she hadn't suspected to be here...but wasn't surprised had arrived either.
"Yare yare...you useless goddess, i would have caught myself. Besides, i've done worse."
Having caught Nina midair, gently holding her in their arms was a mysterious, small girl with a set of twintails secured with lovely black ribbons. The mere fact this individual was floating in the air was astonishing enough even perhaps among magical girls, but the fact that such a small body was bridal-carrying a magical girl in her arms was another thing. But wait, this wasn't another magical girl, right? Nina had said something....no, wait it-
"BAKA BAKA BAKA BAKA BAKA!!!! I told you to not try stuff like this you big dummy! Hmpfh!"
-....was a currently pouting, childish sounding goddess who was looking at Nina with reddened, puffed out cheeks and a disapproving gaze fit for a small fussy child. It almost looked like she was gonna cry, or throw a tantrum even. Was this even a goddess at all, and not just a very confused magical girl? Only two people in the area knew for sure, and one of them was in said loli goddess' arms as said loli goddess fussed at her.
In response, Nina merely used Star Platinum to flick said goddess' forehead, though the grin shifted into a small, sly smile now before the magical girl began to speak again.
[color=blue]"Hey, i'm not gonna die on ya like the other girl did when you found me, you idiot. Hell i and Red have survived this long in your patronage, so at some point i think we lost the ability to die."[/blue]
"Owies! Y-You meanie, your supposed to be my champion!!! Waah...i coulda' been looking for more followers too....." Majora responded as she shouted now at Nina, still pouting. Yet after this she began avoiding eye contact with Nina now, looking to the side as the flicked spot on her forehead became a bit reddened in a distinct manner. Had...hadn't Nina gone too far by hitting a goddess?!
Nina let out a small peal of laughter at the sight, before doing the unthinkable...and reaching up to pat the goddess on the head. Gently, softly, as if she was lecturing a younger sibling on something or such.
"Yare yare, you still act like a small child, useless goddess. You don't even know the magical world to the point you took on Red to help me...
...But come on, you did a good job this time at least. Just don't get involved in my fights unless you really need to, ok? This is your second offense. if you do it again, i'll flick you using my gloves and full power next time."
Meanwhile, Alice had nodded to Joanna as the other girl leapt to try to rescue Nina. Despite the wind user's doubts that Nina would die from such a fall, even if she fell into the church somehow (her partner was that stubborn...), she also didn't want to turn down the help either. It was noble, and Red Rifle knew "that" attack would weight Nina's body down like a sack of rocks when it was used. Idiot had decided to use the worst vantage point to look cool and get an overview of the situation...haha. One day that could kill her, though, which did worry the veteran magical girl a good bit in the process.
Hefting up her rifle as soon as she could in the right direction, Alice noted the fleeing individual with the sleeves, who had a hostage in tow. This was a simple shot, nothing more and nothing less.
With her sight automatically following the individual, and her finger carefully on the trigger, a grin came to the face of Red Rifle as she fired three of her "homing" shots in succession. The air itself was bending around them and propelling them at high speeds, though normally being able to be guided by Rifle herself, in this case they were being guided by her scope to their destinations. Two of the shots were aimed to pierce the head and heart of the enemy respectively, the third to explode beneath the soon-to-be falling victim to form a wind cushion for him to float safely down on....albeit he could land on a roof.
She hadn't considered it, merely keeping him from splatting on the pavement was her goal. So even if he fell onto a roof, it wouldn't be any big deal if he yelled for help that would obviously come for him after all of this.
Ah, and edited in a proper "Naga" bit under the Races section now. I included what you said at base, with additions saying how these naga differ from the normal.
Arianna felt something....pang inside as she listened to Lilie's answer, the tone in which it came out, the manner in which it was delivered being noted out of the corner of the vampiress' discerning eye. Ah. So that was how it had become, then, for Lilie? Cruel. Her own father was one case of things, but she figured that was perhaps worse in its own ways. To be close, to know that...warmth of love. Yet then having that snatched away...if she had heard any stories about mages in the past right, then some families rejected them. Yet some called only the vampires cruel, because they drank blood? There was more than blood that one could drink. Emotions. Sanity. The will to go on. She'd felt that personally...and for that the one who'd done that to her would be gutted and put on a cross to see the sun rise. She would make it happen, one day, no matter what.
Finding herself lost in thoughts, somewhat alone in that for a moment, Arianna smoothly transitioned this time back into her usual airs as she turned to face Lilie, walking over to the mage with a sexy gait in her step. Leaning down a bit, she used the index finger of her right hand to gently raise Lilie's head to meet her own smile. Then softly, gently, Arianna placed a chaste kiss upon the water mage's forehead before standing up straight again, her right index finger trailing softly off of Lilie's chin in the process.
"My dear, dear Lilie. Perhaps...we can talk about family later, hmm? If you would be fine with such.
But to answer your questions for now...
I expect you to become the best "you" that you can be. Lilie, the mage, my partner, and most importantly someone who can live with who they have become. We shall work to instill a confidence in you as well, though let it not fall into pride my dear....for that is something which can slay any vampire or human in this world, in a heartbeat even.
As for tasks, i desire you to be well-rested for tomorrow. Then perhaps you could get the mail in the morning for us?
I shall also be arising earlier to practice a spot of my fencing before the night begins properly, and you are more than welcome to join me for it. Haha, it is better than training alone at any rate, and i swear my fencing suit is getting a bit dusty these days."
After speaking, Arianna drifted away in the direction of the bedrooms, hands locked behind her back playfully, looking over her shoulder and giving a sensually teasing wink to Lilie. Though after her head turned back around, she seemed to freeze for a moment after another step, before looking back to Lilie again with a more serious look on her face, one filled with a bit of worry.
"Ah, and do be wary enough of that boy you were with when i first found you at the event. To be truthful, he seemed like a lost puppy with wide eyes as he looked at you, all full of affection and fascination with your very being as the hormones raged in his blood enough to smell it. I am not one to say affections are all bad now, but i recognize that type of look.
I am also familiar with the potential things it can lead to, or cause. Obsession being one of them.
Perhaps he is a good boy, maybe a good friend potentially. He seemed to be of good stock just from looking at him at the time.
But human or vampire, the world can be a dangerous place if we are not careful. And so i shall trust your judgement in things regarding this, but also do not be afraid to come to me if anything ever happens or you need advice, hmm? I am here for you, and i hope you shall come to always know this...because i shall prove it."
With that, Arianna gave a wave as she moved to go to her bedroom for the day. Though the note was somber, a tone of sincerity also came into it. Though by the time she had finally gotten out of Lilie's line of sight the somber thoughts had been replaced with idea of her sleepwear and how that sexy, silken gown would feel upon her skin, sensually hugging her loosely about the curves and such...ahn~
-Early Evening-
Arianna had arisen earlier than her darling little Lilie purposefully, preparing the girl a hot breakfast and keeping it in the microwave after drinking a good glass of blood or few to get her started for the day. Bacon and eggs, humans called it? Haha, she about wished vampires could try such things, but at least she had her cabinet of fine bloods in bottles to go off of for variety.
Then she had placed a note upon Lilie's door on the inside telling her where the food was, not daring to wake the other girl. Of course, she had enjoyed the view of the sleeping water mage a bit, but has restrained herself. From here she had gone about to put on her gear leave a smaller, spare suit out in case Lilie would have like to use it, and then went to go practice in the main room. After all, there would still be enough light out at this hour to not be very fun to get into~
-Night 1 of School-
The speeches the bravado, the introduction of the important people such as herself that were among the student body this year. Her aura of regality seemed to glow amidst it, though mentally it felt a tad boring when it had come down to it. Of course having gotten that letter from little Varis, well that had been just delightful and dangerous at the same time now, hadn't it? A Sinnodel wanting to speak to them all, likely a political move on his part in her mind that could carry any sort of actions for debate, analyzing opponents, or the like. Not that he was the only one potentially able to make use of it all. Yes indeed, she felt a ping of excitement within her for when the meeting would be coming little soiree if it was confirmed to still be going on.
Of course dear Alder Noila was a tad sour for her taste, sneering at embraced/turned when his own princesses were among that group. Such a sad things to ponder, and if she had been a high-ranking Noila she'd have taken off his head right there for offending her. A certain level of distaste was of course allowed to be heard in polite society, ah, but after a certain point one cannot allow such frivolous things to set a bad example for others. But perhaps she was a tad harsh? Such a thought didn't matter right now anywho, as her mind absorbed information about the Arena and clubs and such events and things going on. Clearly as well, Administration over business and such things was one of the only proper paths for a lady such as herself to pursue here when it came to choosing an aforementioned "area of interest".
Ooh, perhaps with some Human Studies electives, carefully picked to her liking and benefit of course, would prove useful for her in the long run. Whatever the case, she could feeling the many sets of eyes of other student boring into her skull. Twas' a normal thing for her, something she understood how to deal with on a common basis. Who could resist her, after all?
Standing up, Arianna pushed some hair behind her ear. She could hear a vampire girl nearby's breath catch for a moment, as if snapping out of it. Merely keeping the air of grace about her, and a formal smile on her face, she strode over to the table, giving a visible, small wink at Amaris Marivaldi for good measure along the way. What could she say, the cuties were here and she was present as well. Twas' hard not to do a little something...even just in non-harmful flirtatious play, all as as the boys and ladies took in her visage due to her regal, sexy gait as she walked~
Approaching the individual holding the "A-G" sign, her smile widening a little as she stopped in front of them, one hand upon her hip now in a determined posture.
"Ah, may i ask for a general idea or list of what sort of classes might suit a lady such as myself? I am most interested, with perhaps something like administration being a future goal of mine~" she said to the individual holding the sign, her aura not holding anything back as she politely requisitioned information from the individual in her usual manner, words as sweet as honey, eyes as deep as oceans, and her tone as smooth as the finest of any silks.
@Wildman13 This took all afternoon and into the night, more than i had expected. But....i hope this idea does not clash with anyone else's maps. That....or is a crappy idea in the first place. Ugh. @_@
Maker’s Side Note: For the map above, this was as far as I could get in editing it and making this before site I was doing it on stopped working.
Yin’Fael
Full Name: Kingdom of Yin’Fael (meaning “moonbeams” and “three” in their main language respectively, aka: “The Three Moonbeams”)
Flag/Symbol:
Wonder: (You all have one wonder or two if you are large empire, A wonder is basically a powerful relic or devise that can give a constant buff for your people or a superweapon that inspires your people or instills fear for your enemies. But, be careful, all relics are powerful but, can be stolen destroyed and etc.)
The Great Spire- A secret, massive tower built underneath the underground capital city, its walls are magically tempered and crafted with the finest materials one could hope to gather for making it. Their nation's "superweapon" for all intents and purposes, it is stronger than even their best buildings in make and could survive earthquakes without a scratch due to the centuries of work put into its making, maintenance, and improvement since. Further, the fact it is under a city, which is under/within a literal mountain, is a telltale sign of just how safe this thing is from attacks from above-ground normally.
It is a great "magic boosting cannon", accelerating energy within the earth over and over within it, before the energy is fired as a beam through a portal. This portal was built on the bottom of the "lid" that covers the top of the spire. This portal, which has to be calibrated first with magic to designate and form an "exit" portal for the attack, takes time to "aim" in this regard. However, the portals only opens/is-opened just as the magical energy beam is being fired.
This being said, the one time it was used the enemy tried to fire an attack back through the portal. This attack was vaporized by the concentrated energy. Similarly, trying to fire into the portal and into the spire itself would only vaporize potential intruders, magic, or physical objects.
The end result is an explosively powerful attack capable of blasting cities into ash and producing a devastating shockwave that goes far beyond ground zero as well. However, the long charge time and notable aiming time make it only used when it needs to be. This being said, Yin’Fael has been working on a manner in which to "supercharge" it faster and speed up the magical formula and processes it utilizes, which is still in the process of being developed.
However, despite its chamber being reinforced to survive an apocalypse with metal and magical wards, anti-teleporting/portal formulas written all over, and the best possible materials to keep it contained and safe all around, the spire is vulnerable from sabotage done on the outside of its firing chamber. Hence it has a dedicated guard granted to it for protection where it is located. It is what has kept this small nation safe from far larger threats, as the ability to annihilate enemy bases or cities by scrying the location and firing it remotely is absolutely terrifying.
Wonder Guard: A special 550-person elite guard called the “Ai-Dael” (meaning “beloved guardians”), they were each and every one of them. Chosen from among the best potential in military recruits possible in the nation of Yin’Fael, they are the guard for the wonder as well as the royal family. Their armor is layered with wards and healing spells and top-quality materials that they gained the moniker “The Immortals” in battle when enemies found it seemingly impossible to make them “stay dead”.
In the case of protecting their nation’s wonder, the troops protecting the underground city above can also assist to add to the numbers and effectiveness of a defense. Likewise, these troops can protect the city above in order to protect the wonder.
The last 50 members of this guard called the “Honor Guard” are specifically meant to be for the protection of the royal family and to escort them, but can come to the defense of this wonder as well as part of their job. However, they have a priority on the royal family by just a bit in their case.
Technology: Though technologically medieval-era like the rest of the nations of Titania, Yin’Fael represents in ways some of the best technology of old being refined until this point in time. Think of if the Roman could improve on what they had done rather than people falling into the Dark Ages in Earth’s past.
Ducts to move water efficiently like advanced aqueducts, roads and water-filled channels for travel and moving people and things, and generally cleaner and well-built cities for a fantasy realm. Through magically-treating materials, they have developed buildings and fortresses and ships capable of withstanding high firepower (within a certain extent), and advanced weapons or mechanisms of their own unique spin (musket, cannons, ye olde magical pumping mechanism, and even naval equipment) that have been refined or honed during foreign trade. Even clothes are made from a native variant of “silk” produced by worms that live on the islands, from which are made beautiful garments considered to be an exotic good.
Navally they represent an advanced power, alongside artillery and infantry. However, due to limited trade and such that they do the nation has rumors and such about it that abound in especially far-flung areas about them being “barbarian” in technology. This in reality isn’t true at all, though, which is a point of amusement for the Yin’Fael.
Military Might:
The Yin’Fael military is a highly-trained, professional military that is broken into several main wings, each with subsections of their own: Naval, Infantry, Artillery, and Espionage.
1 – Most notable is their Naval wing of the military, which takes the form of a great fleet known as the “Iron Fleet” for their size and being made of magically-altered metals for incredibly tough hulls but light enough designs to make them function properly. This originally arose from a lack of wood on their islands to use for building any ships. This could also be said to be a “cheat” that skipped the process Earth’s people had to undergo to make metal ships eventually. Using sails as their main movement, but possessing perfectly useable magically-powered movement if the need arises in situations, they are like the moving battle tanks of the ocean.
Yet despite rumors of being a “slow moving target” as far away peoples and the nation’s opponents have painted them as to be derogatory to them, they do have smaller ships with higher speeds and larger ships of varying sizes they can employ for various naval situations.
Further, the well-trained naga marines of the nation are underwater threats for any enemy at sea, with a conginent usually kept at the bottom of the ship to be “released” under the ship during battles to take on the enemy from underneath.
2 – The Infantry wing of the Yin’Fael military is known for both high discipline and professionally-trained troops, an oddity of sorts that has paid off in spades in combat. Trained to fight on sea and land, on smooth and rough terrains, at range and in melee, the process to train troops is high but the result speaks for itself. There are the:
Gunners (using the nation’s own brand of long, thin musket whose metal was magically treated to be stronger than it looks on paper)
Archers (utilizing special reinforced longbows to make them useful against firearms only in terms of range and not making sounds)
Melee Infantry (ranging from lightly armored, one-handed blade wielders with shields to things like heavily armored club and two-handed-sword wielders, to even spears for anti-cavalry tactics)
Kitai (warrior class of the military, raised in their families to be elite, versatile warriors who stand head and shoulders above the normal soldier....who are already very well off themselves on the average for Yin’Fael. Their families pass down ancestral land, and members of these families as they inherit and prepare to inherit it are expected to care for it and ensure it thrives, as well as adding something to it when they finally inherit it. They are useful for a variety of assignments.)
Other Information: Infantry are trained to work in direct battle, guerilla tactics, and even in flexible squads (akin to modern tactics) alongside other troop types in order to perform missions or invasions or battle or other tasks they are used for. However, the lack of cavalry does make them most vulnerable on flat plains, one reason that spear infantry exists among them and anti-cavalry training has become a thing among the nation’s military as well.
3 – Artillery is one of the newer areas of the Yin’Fael military, though through the employment of specialists teaching their own engineers the nation has managed to catch up frighteningly fast. Great Cannon/Bombards with magic-based aiming and targeting systems, circular, rotating cannon barrels spun with wind magic to fire off rapid shots at the enemy, sigils and formulas drawn on ammunition to provide varying effects when fired, and even mobile-artillery platforms in the form of constructs who joined the military and have had mechanisms and artillery built into them voluntarily.
Artillery crews and serving constructs all have the same discipline as the regular infantry and even the naval marines of the nation are famous for, and are trained in sighting up shots and such beyond any magical assistants in order to “prove their worth” and keep them well-trained in case they are forced to use captured guns from enemies or have to resort to manually firing the more magically-assisted artillery pieces. This being said, not all the artillery of the nation is enchanted to magically aim, also in order to keep Artillery crews on their toes and make them experienced.
4 – The Espionage wing of the military is formed from groups of troops taken from other branches of the military, or who are taken into this wing due to having certain talents or the potential for this kind of work, to become agents and/or become part of the many special, highly elite squads of troops used for covert missions. In this lattermost thing the Infantry and Espionage areas can overlap, though in this wing of the military’s case they are more concerned with covert matter such as: getting information, inserting moles into places, assassinations, sabotage, and other tasks that the regular military does not normally handle....all from within the shadows.
Government:
-The Queen: Yin’Fael is at the top ruled by the “Moon Queen”, always having been a female member of the Dark Elf race due to the matriarchal sentiments that have existed in the nation since its beginnings. She wields supreme power over the military, and is capable of vetoing laws passed by the “Great Council” beneath her. She also has the power to enforce laws. However, though she cannot come up with laws, but she and her family enjoy a life of great luxury, high status, and high education regardless.
-The Great Council: Underneath the Queen directly is the “Great Council”, also known as the “Council of the Twelve”. To become a member of the council, one must have pass an inspection and exam for council candidates. This is to ensure, as has been noted in the past the council itself: “an experienced, fair, and just council who have the varied and needed experience to serve the people well”. Representatives come from various parts of the nation, in order to ensure interests are fairly represented alongside the nation’s various peoples and such things.
Along with this The Council (its nickname as it were) also is the one that fiddles with the laws and legislation on a normal basis, the matters of state that would be unwieldy if only left to one individual. The Star Queen attends these meetings, in order to remain in the loop, but she has limited power to merely veto new legislation...but does have the power to enforce the laws once they are passed. Despite not being able to craft the laws, the Star Queen can suggest them to the Council for discussion.
The Great Council does have input on declaring war properly, however, and thus with the Star Queen they must come to a majority agreement to declare war properly. This being said, the Council does recognize the Star Queen’s authority to mobilize the military prior to such an event as is needed. After all, this is one reason for her very high education from a young age.
-Other Political Notes: Constructs with sentience are taken in as proper citizens, given rights and such to boot. However, the slaying of a construct maker to “free constructs” is considered a taboo and unethical, as within their nation a construct maker crafts their creations with a free will in mind according to their law. Illegal “non-free-willed constructs” are usually confiscated and treated until the user dies either from age or legal punishment or such. In fact, the punishment for “illegal non-free-willed-constructs” in Yin’Fael is death after a proper trial....unless it is an emergency situation.
History:
-Origins-
A long time ago, a group of exiled elves was forced out of their home in the Highlands and out to the sea of the Central Isles. As the group made their way to try to find sanctuary on the desert coasts to the south, a storm blew their ships off course. For three days and three nights the exiles prayed to the gods for deliverance and sought to keep their people alive and their ships intact. Yet one deity seemed to answer above the others: the moon goddess named “Yin”. She sent softly glowing messengers of light to guide them, directed their path and give instructions, and led them to the islands that would become their home.
Finally on land again, and with low supplies, the surviving elves gave great thanks and worship to the goddess for their survival. However, their surprises were met with more as they came across a small tribe of cat-like beastfolk. With ears and eyes and tails of beasts, but soft-skinned bodies like humans, this group had become a unique people. Approaching each other on peaceful terms, thankfully, the surviving elves were fed and given shelter before the locals began to share their story. Having been regular beastfolk in the past, they had moved to this island so long ago they could not remember anything before that but that they had fled to the islands to escape their enemies.
However, not too long after arriving and setting up these beastfolk had encountered a great plague that had slain most of their people and their men especially, leaving the remaining few men infertile after they survived the ordeal by some miracle. Already having been worshipping the ancient god/goddess Meatha, a fertility deity of old, the deity had extended a hand to the people for their survival. Their bodies were changed to withstand the hotter temperatures (losing most of the fur and instead having human-like bodies/skin), their people were taught magic in the form of special symbols/sigils to help crops grow and cause materials like metal to become as light as wood and such things as magic can do, and their females were changed to “possess the nature of both man and woman” to supplant the loss of the males of the people.
-Unity, Cohesion, and the Birth of a Nation-
The elves too relayed their story of survival to these people, who called themselves the Torren-Ai (the first meaning “deity-blessed” neutrally, and the latter meaning “beloved” respectively, with the suffix “-ren” on Torren meaning “heavens”, which combined with “tor” meaning “touched”, combines into their words for “deity” which means “one who is touching heaven”). The end result was both parties rejoicing, calling their meeting “a merciful act of fate” their deities had created to bring these outcasts together. Thus began the event known as the “Great Uniting”, as these elves and the Torren-Ai moved in together, sharing cultures and magical knowledge and such things among them. Old and new came together, and even the elves eventually hewed a new city into the rock of the mountain on their island home.
As this occurred, even they became changed by the two deities they now worshipped. Yin marked them with icy-pale skin to reflect the love the moon had shown them, and she granted some Torren-Ai and elves silver eyes that could see into the distance farther than normal and see well in the dark at that as a sign of her favor upon them. Meatha granted a boon to the elves of denser muscles and slender bodies like the Torren-Air had been granted, and made some members of their females the same as the Torren-Ai in being of “both of man and woman” as a sign of having taken them in as Yin had taken in the Torren-Air as well. From here the races grew, with this new race of what was labeled “Dark Elves” booming in population over the next centuries and millennia.
This combination of races, that called themselves the “Ai-Torrai-Yin” (with the suffix “-rai” meaning “of”, aka resulting in this name being: “beloved and people of the moonbeams”), aka the “Aitorraiyin” as it would eventually be shortened by other races outside of their islands. However, this boom in population between them over time expanding to populate other main island and remaining small islands in the area. These are the island that would form the main part of their nation, though as they got toward this point the Aitorraiyin ran into one big problem. The Naga, who could be an issue on the beaches and were the source of some minor conflicts in the earliest parts of the nation’s existence.
Seeking to provide a long-term solution, eventually negotiations were made between the local naga and Aitorraiyin over time, assimilating the local naga and their underwater cities near the islands into the nation itself. It was after this the “first golden era” of the people began, resulting in channels, tunnels, and such things being dug, as well as other structures meant to unite the three species together more deeply with each other. This golden era occurred under the first several queens of the nation who sought to create unity to avoid creating internal issues, the first queen having been put in place by the consensus of the three peoples after much searing and debate.
-Isolation and Development-
The islands and their peoples remained rather isolated, however, for a very long time, developing into a unique culture and society that to the modern eye would seem similar to the former Earth nation of Japan. Respect, honed combat skills, a warrior-class called the Kitai (meaning “revered”) that have existed for a long time, but at the same time they had their own unique spins such as a notable level of industry developed carefully over time to avoid tarnishing the little landmass they had. This being said, their population density is great, not to be underestimated in terms of people, troops, and even naval power able to be fielded at a time. They came to their own separate discovery of what would become the “Islander Musket”, a thinner, magically-reinforced version of the musket known for its notably higher accuracy and precision in use than the muskets anywhere on the continent (due to the length of the barrel primarily). Does not having rifling though.
This fed into the “Second Great Boom” among the nation, in the form of great infrastructure boom beginning to be built as metals and other resources were discovered underground on the islands and under the ocean floor, as underwater naga cities and land/coastal cities of the elves/beastkin merged more and more in some cases over time whilst most became more and more connected between ancient dug paths and more advanced magical systems set up for these things. Temples to the various gods the peoples worship have become blended into various communities as well.
Further, the merging of elven arcane arts/formulas, Torren-Ai sigils, and naga magical abilities merged it transformed the landscape of the nation’s magic practices. While areas of distinct magical practice for each of these three things exist among the races, recent development has resulted in the creation of what is known as the unique “Aitorraiyin Composite” system of magic. Amidst all of this the nation finally emerged from isolation as they were discovered by an elven ship. Eventual negations created some trade with the regular elves, and then as the Aitorraiyin settled a city or two on the coast of the eastern peninsula they came into contact with some Independent Dwarven Kingdoms. This resulting in a process of careful but profitable trade that has been a boon to both sides since then.
-To Current Times-
From the dwarves was gained technology that would allow the nation to produce its own artillery, which only improved their navy simultaneously as that technology expanded. Rumors about them by those not actively interacting with them (or are getting secondhand Aitorraiyin goods from other sources) tend to think them a set of careful isolationists or stubborn backwards people. This is because they have only been selective in getting involved in conflicts with other nations and peoples, which some have labeled them as “picky” for amidst the politics in Titania.
This is actually not true, as they are an industrious, respectful, but resourceful people who shouldn’t be underestimated in any given situation. They feel to choose their battles carefully, yes, but when they do commit they do so with a zeal and intelligence that makes them far more dangerous than they initially seem.
Race(s) within Nation:
Originating from the stock what are considered “normal” elves by this time, the Dark Elves differ notably from their counterparts. Dark Elves were shaped by the blessing of the deity Meatha in terms of their physiology, and then this alongside the side effects of the magic contained under the mountain they dug a city underneath on one of their islands.
Though still amazing at magic, their muscles and bones are notably denser despite their graceful, elegant, and slender appearances. Granting them more notable physical strength than the standard type of elf, they are capable of holding their own better in a melee than others might think upon looking at them. Further, the race genetically possesses a limited selection of dark hair colors, ranging from a soft brown to black, though rarely a child will be born with white hair (a special and celebrated thing). Eye colors range within the following: golden hazel, bluish-silver, fiery-gold, and red on very rare occasions.
By this point in time the Dark Elves, just like their unique Beastfolk allies, have also become entirely a race of what was described by the first visitors to the island as “possessing parts both male and female” within an overall “female” physical shell to assist in the need of rearing and caring for children. This, as it did with the Beastfolk of their island, occurred because couples of these sorts over time simply had more children and a pre-disposition to bear children “like them” if they are involved in producing a child. Being able to have more children than traditional male-female couples, which was a side effect of the Beastfolk deity’s blessing on both these races, eventually things shifted the sex ratio to these who are called “Faelen” (meaning “moonbeam people”) as a proper and widely accepted term.
Due to blessings from Yin bestowed on them and their Beastfolk fellows, those born with silver eyes possess the ability to see at far distances, making them valuable as scouts as well as in and out of battles.
***(Adapted from the History section with added details and such)***
Having been regular beastfolk in the past, they had moved to this islands so long ago they could not remember anything before that but that they had fled to the islands to escape their enemies. Since time immemorial they had lived there, isolated from the world for a long time.
However, not too long after arriving and setting up these beastfolk had encountered a great plague that had slain most of their people and their men especially, leaving the remaining few men infertile after they survived the ordeal by some miracle. Only females seemed to retain some fertility through this infection, if they even survived it, and the unaffected children were fine as well (due to their lack of sexual maturity).
Already having been worshipping the ancient god/goddess Meatha, a fertility deity of old, the deity had extended a hand to the people for their survival. Their bodies were changed to better survive the tropical hotter temperatures (losing most of the fur and instead having human-like bodies/skin), their people were also by their deity taught magic in the form of special symbols/sigils to help crops grow and cause materials like metal to become as light as wood and such things as magic can do, and their females were changed to “possess the nature of both man and woman” to supplant the loss of the males of the people.
However, as noted with the Dark Elves, this blessing formed the “Faelen” sex, and both Faelen tendencies to birth more Faelen as well as Faelen couples naturally having more children between them (and ability to biologically support them) this resulted in the Faelen being the only sex among this unique variant of beastfolk.
Further, due to blessing from the elven goddess Yin, some members of this race too can be born with silver eyes that allow “far reaching sight” as it has been called with the same value.
These unique beastfolks’ hair/ear/tail color is always the same for each individual, save with the use of temporary hair dyes. This being said, dying all of one’s hair is seen as a complicated task. This being said, hair colors for them naturally range from fiery red, to black, to chocolate brown, to even blonde. Eye colors range from a soft emerald green to red to chocolate brown and then silver of course.
The most simple way to describe this beastfolk variant to Earth Humans would be....“catgirls”.
The naga hold bodies of snake or fish filled with scales. They vary in size and attitude, as the more serpentine looking of the creature act as the warriors of the creature, while the ones that has the characteristic of humanoid serves as the primary workers of their society. Their cities are made of stone, sand, and anything that they can get their hands on but, instead of nails and clay their cities are held by the corrals of the sea giving their cities an organic look as many of the inhabitants of the sea call these settlements as their home.
The naga, while self sufficient, by their own seldom interact with man. Yet some, which thrive further inland and far from the embrace of the sea, submit and offer their services to many of the kingdoms within their domain. The warriors of the race are big and formidable able to spew toxic fumes from their mouths.
In this case, whilst many naga of Yin'Fael live in several underwater cities that are a part of nation itself, many of the humanoid ones have come to live on land alongside the other races of their nation. With access to naga both on land and at sea, they have become a part of Yin'Fael society with roles ranging from laborers to traders to merchants to even roles as elite marines and mages for naval warfare. The serpentine warriors especially are employed in naval and sea-based operations, though both kinds are treated as equal citizens alongside the other races in their nation by being held to the same bar as them. Much like the other races of Yin'Fael as well, they are instilled with a pride in their nation in this manner.
Further, magically-treated building materials have allowed the naga to create stronger, grander cities within the boundaries of Yin'Fael's territory to last longer and stronger than the average naga city, as well as organically strengthen their combat abilities that are able to be displayed underwater through the use of weapons and tools granted to them. This includes, due to the developments of the cannon and musket reaching Yin'Fael, the use of underwater magical explosives. However, these utilize magic alone, with experiments going on to find an "explosive powder variant" that can be combined with the usefulness of the less-potent (but still strong at point blank/very close range) magical variant.
Physiologically, many of the naga that originally moved to land were granted a blessing like unto the Beastkin and Dark Elves, resulting in many Faelen among their numbers. However, they still remain with a majority of male-female naga, especially in the underwater cities whilst the land ones are the vast majority Faelen.
Free constructs are welcome in Yin’Fael, which has taken in a number of those who fled from their creators and such. Despite being able to make constructs and employ them as other elves can, the law spells out that any constructs made must be allowed free will and freedom as full citizens. Illegal “enslaved constructs” are prohibited, a thing punishable with death to the creator outright.
Freed constructs have found places in Yin’Fael society, as servers or dock workers or such things like others have. A number volunteered to serve in the military, some even voluntarily seeking to have mechanisms and artillery added to them as troops in order to stand out and best support their peers in the military.
Religion:
To put it simply, the worship of the Beastfolk deity Meatha, the worship of the elven goddess Yin, and the sea god Kil-Naren with the sea goddess Fina-Shir that were brought in by the local naga upon being assimilated into Yin’Fael over generations. Worship of these deities occurs freely within Yin'Fael, with shrines being found on land and in the underwater naga cities. Though it can't be said at all that all naga worship the particular deities the Yin'Fael naga brought with them, it is known these local naga in the nation did worship them and such at the very least. Culture:
To give a general idea, though the Kitai and individuals like the royal family are held as a higher class and a certain social order remains in place, the people seem to be content with it. They can get good jobs, earn ways into many high-ranking positions with real effort, and both the Council and Queen tend to keep each other in check overall.
The normal attitude of the people of Yin’Fael are generally laid-back, relaxed, and content. This being said, festivals, parties, and the like they enjoy quite a lot, and romance is a celebrated thing much like the birth of a first child (due to the odd composition of the vast majority all being Faelen in their society).
Elders are respected generally for wisdom, and live at home with family to assist them and be assisted.
Family compounds are common places for people to live, though with dense cities rising these compounds have begun to take on multiple floors. Albeit, there is nothing like a skyscraper in Yin’Fael due to a lack of enough construction knowledge for this. However, underground floors of compounds are also things sometimes made to extend the family’s living spaces properly.
Deaths are mourned, yes, but instead of a somber occasion the dead are celebrated with a party, all to think of the happy times and good parts of the person’s life and bring hope to those close to the deceased.
Education is a thing that is being pushed in recent years, to spread knowledge about the people. Many in trying to get into high positions can get an education in preparation for that to help them. However, it has a long way to go to develop any proper education infrastructure on the ground level despite having both Council and Royal Family support. This being said, the nation has several notable colleges for magic, development, and training military personnel among such things.
Fishing and farming are valuable assets for the people of Yin’Fael, with the nation focusing in recent centuries on being self-sustaining with food to avoid that being using against them in trade. However, they do still import foods and such from other places.
@Wildman13 Hopefully the nation isn't OP, or the opposite end of the spectrum by this world's designs.
Meant to be a "dark elf ruled, dark elf majority nation with two other races in it that normally aren't working together". Something that became a technological and magical melting pot of generally outcast races or groups from other potentially more common races. They don't have magitech, mind, just simple applications like magic applied to cannons to fire them better. Or runes inscribed on the musket balls to add effects. XD
Its fine I would like to read about it and its not the only nation that reach that has gotten to 8 pages worth of words. XD
Ah! Then with the app in hand, i shall post it here! And then debate making a small modern nation because that could be a fun side thing to manage more easily than making this fantasy nation app. Oi. Lol.
Dark Elf Nation app is in the hider below! :D
Tel’nik
Full Name: Empire of Tel’nik (Tel’nik meaning “seven branches” in their main language)- The United Protectors of the Great Mountains and their Races
Flag/Symbol:
Wonder: The Great Spire of Tel'Amar- A secret, massive tower built underneath the capital city, its walls are magically tempered and crafted with the finest materials the Tel'nik could hope to gather for making it. Their nation's "superweapon" for all intents and purposes, its is stronger than even their best buildings in make and could survive earthquakes without a scratch due to the centuries of work put into its making, maintenance, and improvement since.
It is a great "magic boosting cannon", a project started since the nation first expanded from being a city-state to a proper nation of sorts. It accelerates energy within the earth over and over within it, before the energy is fired as a beam through a portal.
The end result is an explosively powerful attack capable of blasting cities into ash and producing a devastating shockwave. However, the long charge time and notable aiming time make it only used when it needs to be. However, Tel'nik has been working on a manner in which to "supercharge" it faster and speed up the magical formula and processes it utilizes, which is still in the process of being developed.
However, the spire is vulnerable from sabotage on the outside of it. Hence it has a guard granted to it for protection where it is located.
Wonder Guard: An elite, 200 guard retinue composed of the best warriors among the Dark Elves and Dark Dwarves of Tel'nik, they are chosen among the most promising young warriors and trained to guard the nation's Wonder with their very lives and them some. Their armor is bulletproof to even a canon, inscribed with many runes and magical incantations/formulas to make this possible. They live on a strict diet and regiment of training, only answer to the Star Queen, and fight "like demons" in battle as it has been said. These are assisted by an array of 250 constrcts made specially for this task of protecting the nation's wonder.
They can fight to protect the capital city of Tel'Amar, and are sworn to protect the royal family at all costs secondary to the Wonder itself. They in reality act as both royal guard and wonder guards, however, with supporting troops in the city being used to assist them as needed if any of their numbers are sent off to protect members of the royal family as they visit other places.
Technology: Muskets, rune-or-arcane-formula-inscribed musket balls for firearms that have various effects, great cannons/constructs/artillery of various designs, and a mix of infantry troops types and specialists using varying formations or tactics, these sorts of things eventually by this current point in time have become incorporated into the Tel’nik nation and society. This is no more advanced than later medieval times with its muskets and cannons and such, though the influence of the nation’s industry and magic contributed to the ingenuity that brought it to this point in its history.
Military Might:
Due to possessing superior numbers to the modern nations arriving in their world, Tel’nik possesses a specialized military broken into various parts as it is able to do.
Being used to performing guerrilla tactics in the past, they normally operate more along the lines of Earth’s modern troops in ways when it comes to their more "modern" infantry. Sending in squads tactically for goals, deploying troops in pieces strategically for combat, sneak attacks, surrounding and separating enemies, performing ambushes, and all of these sorts of things were adopted by the Tel’nik as their battle style.
This being said, in a direct battle fielding an array of constructs with built-in weapons is usually the way they go for their core infantry to compensate for them being distanced from their creators greatly, alongside dark dwarven heavy infantry/pikes and dark elven gunners/archers/spears in support as well. This alongside the normal applications of magic users in any given situation they go into militarily otherwise.
Sabotage and espionage form an entire wing of their military as well, with a contingent of elite squads and assassins and spies who are perhaps the most renowned and feared by others as compared to their contemporaries.
In terms of artillery, they possess a unique feature beyond the standard stationary bits: mobile artillery. As they field constructs in their armies already with disposeability in mind, they created variants combined with this artillery they have created, such as: Mounted cannons they can aim themselves with magic spells for tracking targets, rotating arrays of firearms magically feeding in from an internal chamber using arcane formulas and being fired via explosion-producing runes formerly used for just mining, and potent little catapults that fling exploding magic cannonballs. Further, self-destructing specially made constructs meant to fight to the back lines and shred enemy lines with a great deal of shrapnel are also employed.
Further, the nation boasts literally no cavalry, a weakness in regards to military might. They rely on the stout, strong dark dwarven infantry and dark dwarven pikes to hold up the sides. There are also dark elven contingents of spears used for lighter, faster moving anti-cavalry tactics on the flanks and rear of the army as well. However, even then this is merely their attempts to compensate against cavalry used by others.
Yet they do possess a strong navy, which is slow but consists metal-reinforced wood ships with some artillery and a set of dedicated marines aboard each vessel. Not as fast in the water as lighter shops, but compensating with long range, durability, and maneuverability, it is a force that has seen conflict to the past with devastating effect on unprepared foes.
Construct makers, however, are kept safe in the nation's holds or capital city due to issues with rampant constructs if the makers die.
Government:
-The Queen: Tel’nik is at the top ruled by the “Star Queen”, always having been a female member of the Dark Elf race due to the matriarchal sentiments that have existed in the nation since its beginnings. She wields supreme power over the military, and is capable of vetoing laws passed by the “Great Council” beneath her. However, she cannot come up with laws, but she and her family enjoy a life of great luxury, high status, and high education regardless.
-The Great Council: Underneath the Queen directly is the “Great Council”, also known as the “Council of the Twelve”. This council is formed of dark elves and dark dwarves that the nation is composed of, who are representative chosen from the various parts of Tel’nik to be a part. To become a member of the council, one must have possessed a mayor-ship in the past, served a term as a governor at least once, and pass an inspection and exam for council candidates. This is to ensure, as has been noted in the past the council itself: “an experienced, fair, and just council who have the varied and needed experience to serve the people well”.
Along with this The Council (its nickname as it were) also is the one that fiddles with the laws and legislation on a normal basis, the macro matters of state that would be unwieldy if only left to one individual.
-Regional Governors: Regional governors are chosen among mayors and those who served as mayors in the past, who must pass a tough exam as well as an extensive examination of their character. This is meant to decrease corruption, by pushing only those with the mind and determination to achieve it...as well as the right character being required for that matter. Underneath them is a “State Council” that is composed of citizens from across their controlled region, members of which can replace them in emergencies until a new governor is put into power.
-Mayors: Official that are, oddly enough, chosen among the people for their positions. Elections in the towns take place every 3 years, with candidates having to convince the people to elect them. Upon a “final 3” arising from this, they must pass an examination of character and skills by the “Town Council” (a large council composed of citizens from their area) who helps mitigate the power of the mayor in effect but also helps choose which of the final 3 candidates rises into the position of Mayor proper. The election process is overseen by assistants to the Regional Governor, to avoid issues and keep things recorded properly.
-Emergency Governmental Measures: Should lower-tier leaders be lost, members of their respective councils replace them. Should the mayor die, a member of the town council is selected for the position until a new mayor can be put in. Same for the Regional Governors, as if one dies in office a member of the State Council will be put into place in an emergency
History:
-Origins-
Tel’nik as a nation was founded a very long time ago, said to be thousands of years ago, when a group of elves that had been cast out of their homeland journeyed to look for a new area to call home. Their leader at the time was the priestess Amana Tel’nik, who was granted visions by the gods of where to go. Over the course of time their odyssey led them to eventually arrive at the center of what would be the lake Vol’Filla-Amar. Here they discovered the entrance to a ruined dwarven city. In this case, the dwarves were an off-shoot of the normal, with skin as dark as the shadows they lived in and eyes whose colors were like burning embers. However, the state of these dwarves had declined in recent decades, with only very few stragglers remaining behind after far too many had died of a great plague in the past.
It was here that, despite both sides feeling like there would be a conflict, an elderly shaman among the dwarves named Durin-Tor spoke aloud. “Here ye my people, for these were sent to us by the gods and elements to preserve us, us who had shunned the world and fell to our folly of locking ourselves off from it.” It was this that left the more numerous elves assimilating into the city alongside the remaining “Dark Dwarves” as they were called. However, these elves were the ones to take charge after the following negotiations, their new queen (Amana herself) being at the head. Yet to preserve the right of the dwarves, a secondary council was formed to incorporate dwarves into the legislation and governmental process justly in the eyes of both parties who formed a nation they named after the elf prefix for “seven” and the dark dwarven word for “stars”.
-The Rise of Tel’nik-
Changed by the new environment in which they lived by the magic it contained, this group of elves became what is called the “Dark Elves”. Their skin was now naturally as pale as the whitest of the northern ice, and their eyes became silver, stormy grey, even fiery red at times, and most rare of all a gold-fiery red mix also differs from their elven relatives. They retained their slender, elegant bodies, yet their muscles became far denser and their skeletons far hardier/denser as well, all to better adapt to survive the pressures underground. They became an industrious people, though safer in mining practice than the Dark Dwarves had been, combining the methods of their peoples to dredge up the earth’s secrets.
As elven magic and dark dwarven weaponcraft came together, the production of magical materials and weapons tempered combination of runes with elven magic came into light. However, most important was a tree that grew above the city in the ground the “Seven-Star Tree” that the city originally called itself after. This elven object of nature, brought by the original elves a long time ago, grew upon the magical power seated in the earth underground and became a pale, beautiful sight to behold and infused with great magical power. It became the symbol of the Tel’nik themselves, the symbol of their nation even that was borne upon their flag. It is thought of as being the “wonder” of the nation with rumors of it having weaponized powers, though in truth this isn’t the case at all.
Eventually the city decided to expand its operations, and the combination of dwarven ingenuity and elven grace made the Dark Elves a hard party to fight against. They expanded out in all directions towards the surrounding ring of mountains, making contact with the dwarves that lived there and becoming allies with them, as well as beginning to set up towns above and below ground for various operations like growing crops and mining for additional materials. The latter was especially notable for them, as the area they lived in within the protection of the Delegar Mountains (the mountain range surrounding them) was like the mountains an area rich in minerals and various metals and precious gems. In other words, the type of area that had drawn the original inhabitants of the original dark dwarf city there an even longer time ago.
-Expansion Issues-
However, during this expansion the Tel’nik ran into an issue. Goblins, several warring tribes of them that lived on areas around the main lake surrounding the nation’s capital city itself. Pushed into the Tel’nik-Ganar War (“ganar” meaning “goblin” in the overall Tel’nik language that developed over time), the war was hard between numbers on the goblin side and the advanced but fewer Tel’nik. After ten years of conflict, and the superior weapons and armor of the Tel’nik coming out on top, the goblins were subdued and exterminated in their area.
Thus Tel’nik as it is known now came into being, and was thrown into its first proper “golden age” after this war left the nation free of enemies for a time. Industry and a certain respect of nature seemed to mingle, mining operations expanded, and the dark elven population in particular boomed the most from it all in terms of numbers. The big cities of the Tel’nik formed during this period.
-Rising Up To Current Times-
However, as war became a real thing, the nation fought its first conflict to assert its existence and make possible its survival in the greater world. Yet as trade also began to influence them, and interactions with the larger world became a true struggle at times after the initial golden age, Tel’nik was forced to undergo another change as the current times of their world began to emerge and take root. Muskets, rune-and-arcane-formula-inscribed ammunition for their firearms/artillery, great cannons/constructs/artillery of varying designs, a mix of troops types and specialists using varying formations or tactics, these sorts of things eventually by this current point in time have become incorporated into the Tel’nik nation and society. Due to their industrial abilities and ability to mine what was needed, Tel’nik was perhaps among the first nations to advance to the level of technology that currently exists in the world.
Further, they share a healthy relationship with the dwarves of the mountains, the reason they were able to build fortresses in the mountains even in the past.
Capital City: Tel’Amar (meaning “seven stars”)- the great capital city of the Tel’nik which lies in the middle of the lake Vol’Filla-Amar (meaning “great mirror of the universe”). Despite having a large above-ground presence, underground the city is equally as large if not larger than what is above ground. From colorful markets above where traders can find an array of exotic and other necessary goods, to the deep mines lying at the bottom of the city’s underground part, it is a place that seems to ring with the history of its people to the furthest degree of any other in Tel’nik.
Within the very center of the city is located the palace itself, a great palace that stretches even underground due to it originally being there. However, directly in its front coutyard, the true "center of the city" above ground, is the Seven-Star Tree itself as well.
Notable Cities (other minor ones exist in their land beyond these, including villages and towns):
-Filla-Garon (“mirror’s base”):
-Fin’Darag (“melting pot“):
-Gram’Tor (“grand dwarven residence“):
-Tol’Ganar (“great mighty home“):
Bases/Fortresses:
***The fortresses of Tel’nik are called the “Tel’Pleida” (meaning “the seven sisters”). They are the seven primary fortified bases of the nation which lie within the mountain range that forms the borders of their land and along the entrance into their inlet from the sea). The names of the places are as follows.***
-Gil’Avari: Meaning “god’s gold”, it was originally a booming mining town, due to the rich mineral veins that exist there, before being converted into a fortress during a war at some point. Currently it works as a military base and factory, procuring raw materials and sending them to the cities via a set of underground highways built going from it to many local cities. Though it has only one wall, the thickness of the building and its great size and metal-reinforced overall structure are not to be underestimated.
It also bears the designation as one of the two largest fortresses of the Tel’Pleida, with several minor above-ground military outposts surrounding it that can be supplied and communicated with rapidly.
Further, the lake within the inlet provides water to the fortress itself through pipes, though it also has access to an underground spring and magical purification system in case of sabotage during war.
-Tol’Magni: Meaning “great king”, this fortress was the first created by the nation within the mountains on the orders of their first queen. The struggle to make this fortress worked led to notable advancement in architecture and the infrastructure of the nation itself due to the efforts needed to make it. Built with a set of 3 walls surrounding it that are mounted with stationary artillery for anti-air and anti-ground purposes, as well as a labyrinth of tunnel underneath the fortress and walls themselves leading up to several miles (called “falons” in the elven tongue) away.
Said labyrinth of tunnels have many entrance points, all to be used away to use for guerrilla attacks or escape, with hidden chambers for living that are filled with food and supplies. Entrances into these hidden chambers come from the side, and have charms placed on the inside of them to keep gases and fires out in case enemies seek to purge the tunnels through various means. On top of this, the tunnels bear a large variety of traps and tricks meant to kill, delay, and otherwise impede foes who try to enter them. The thick, rocky terrain above these tunnels and the rock these tunnel were when in below is of a very sturdy sort, meaning it isn’t so easy to destroy unless one utilizes very heavy ordinance to blast away at them.
Fun fact, these tunnels were crafted as a defensive system for the fortress and its surrounding area shortly after completion. Since then, maintenance of them and expansion of said tunnels have been undergone in the many years following.
However, as compared to the other fortresses the size of the main fortress complex itself in this case is on the bottom 3 in terms of size. Indeed, it is one of the smallest, albeit it was built unusually sturdy with layers of magically-treated concrete for all of its walls. Yet it application its name is a moniker of how effective it’s been in application during times of war.
-Tol’nik: Meaning “great branch”, is the largest fortress of the Tel’nik nation. All of the unique attributes of other places were added, including metal reinforcements and magically-treated concrete. It boasts a stunning 6 layers of walls with mounted artillery for foes approaching in the air or on ground, and contains a city-sized set of buildings and housing and such underneath it.
Indeed, it is in reality both a fortress and a city combined, the city being underground and the fortress above-ground. The city was built first, and what at first was a mere military outpost above for protection evolved into a massive construction project over time. The third fortress to be built, it was designed by the best engineers Tel’nik could produce...and is their pride and joy of defensive structures.
It has a direct and well-maintained/protected underground highway to the capital city of Tel’Amar, itself a large construction project that took many years to finish. To assault this fortress could be considered “suicide” in some manner or another, and if the capital needed to be evacuated or such this is the place the people and troops and governmental leader would all naturally retreat to.
-Rael’Fura (meaning “light winds”), Nil’Ganar (“home of the mighty”), Hel’Virin-Tor (“burning home of dwarves”), and Dir’Magnus (“lesser lord”) are the latest four fortresses built by the Tel’nik. They are considered to be of “average” build and make. They are a standardized design for fortresses that was developed in recent years, due to the expenses in constructing entirely unique fortresses in the past.
These were built as the people of Titania advanced to the point where the mountains were not as “impassable” as they used to be, or perhaps the fear of war and past experiences has made the Tel’nik think such, though even now these mountains they still remain like an “impassable wall” for armies. Thus the need to add defenses at a manageable cost was required, just in case.
Each of these fortresses have two layers of walls and a moderately sized main fortress complex behind those walls, with basic artillery for anti-air and anti-ground, as well as a set of simpler but well-reinforced evacuation tunnels for escape towards the inside of the Tel’nik lands, or even get to other minor outposts dotting along the mountain range if need be during an evacuation.
Additional Notes:
-Male Dark Elves are known to look feminine, naturally being mistaken for flat-chested females by other races
@Wildman13 Considering that i have reached 6-7 MS Word doc pages of information for this nation, i think i shall now go about to greatly simplify things for the sake of consistency. XD
