I have to admit that this was fun at first, but now this guy is really trying to actively get away from me. Lex thought as he tried to follow Jae around. He had been so determined to catch the man on fire... Aw fuck it! Lex just let his dust form slow to a halt. To his surprise, he remained afloat. Just the thought of lifting so high off the ground astonished Lex. I guess that's another thing to note about these powers... Dust doesn't do this normally... actually dust doesn't do anything I make it do nowadays...

After a moment of pondering, Lex made his dust form reform in the vicinity of Ben, Jae, and Audrianna. He peered over to see Jae face down and naked on the ground. He whipped his head to Ben with a quickness before looking down at himself. Clothes??!?!? They're here!

"Uh... you can tell your friends that I'm fine. Um gonna go now." Lex said as he walked away while containing his excitement. It was beginning to become dark, but Lex a lot more confident with his ability than he has ever been. Seeing that his powers were better for use outdoors he figured he could truly challenge himself. One night out... after dinner that is. Lex B-lined to the inside of the bunker and to the cafeteria.

Lex awaited the response of the group as their friend flew wildly through the sky before he heard the voice of new person who had approach. She giggled, which allowed Lex to realize how humorous this predicament looked. Though a smile cut across his face, he did not dismiss the man in need of a helping hand. What the hell do I even do about this? If my power flops then I’m not only gonna look like a stupid pile of dirt, that guy could also end up going splat into a tree, cause a forest fire, burn all the vegetation around us, kill the animals, lower the food supply, starve us, and make everyone in the bunker into cannibals… fuck! The thought of superpowered cannibals was horrifying.

Lex’s eyes widened as he turned to the group. He suspected that if they could help, they would have already, which meant that he might be the only hope or something. At least I can say I tried… No, not try. I am going to help him! Lex thought as his body morphed into dust particles that flew forth at Jae like some kind of heat seeking missile. The two flew about like a pair of aimless flies trapped in a small room, and that was the most Lex could accomplish in controlling the situation. He attempted to speak, but his voice came out like a hiss which was much too quiet for the pyro to hear.

“Ssstop... Ssstop flying.” Lex tried to communicate. Lex was hoping that this guy could just turn his power off midair so he could go in for a catch. With a grunt, Lex reached out towards Jae, but his flames sizzled out his reach. To be honest with myself and as fucked up as this seems, this is actually cool as fuck. I’m a flying dust ball chasing a flying man on fire…. Live it up, right? Anyway, if he slows down, I’m crashing straight into him. If I can suffocate the fire, and break his fall, Everything will be fine, he’s just too fast right now.

Right outside of the bunker, where Ben, Jae, and Audrianna stood, a sad pile of sand lay still. Lex was in fact this pile that had been present for nearly half an hour. He'd been stepped on several times in his sorry state. He was past the point of being furious, and fortunately no one could see or hear it.

I hate this shit! How the hell does this thing work yesterday and go to shit the next day?! And can these people stop stepping on me!? I'm just done. I won't use it again. Never... Why can't I change back yet? Fuck I'm gonna be stuck like this until night comes around! Come on! Don't try, just do! Do!!! Lex paraphrased what Kwan had said just the night before in his head.

As nothing seemed to occur, he gave up on trying to change his form and just watched the three who had stood by him with no knowledge of him being there. With an internal sigh, Lex watched and listened to Jae and Audrianna speak about their powers. Yeah, rub it in.... Holy shit! That shit is hot! Lex commented internally as he watched Jae engulf in flames before flying into the sky. Then within seconds, Lex's body rose up and took his normal form.

"Now why can't my power do something like that when it acts up?" Lex said out loud as he appeared. He did not even think about how freaky and startling his sudden appearance might be to the two standing between them. "I might be able to help get your friend." Lex said to Audrianna as he watched grains of dust rise from his fingertips. "Keyword... Might."

“Dinner for breakfast!” Lex announced as he entered the cafeteria. He could tell just by getting a whiff of the delicious food on his way to the fill his belly for the first time today. Despite this, the excitement on his face was due to his adventure last night. It was more of an experience, but he would label it an adventure for dramatic purposes.

To his expectations, the food from last night was just as delicious as it had been when he first tasted it. He let low “Mmm…” escape him as shut his eyes in the delight of eating something that was not from a can or a Meal Ready to Eat box. When his eyes opened to peer at the reality that he was faced with every day since the asteroid fell, he sighed lightly and shook his head. He always had to tell himself to be grateful for being alive and surviving this long. To his and everyone else’s knowledge, Lex and countless others just got lucky. Thinking on it, Lex knew that there were so many variables that would make him a dead man today. Even yesterday…

As he stood up from the cafeteria table, he pondered on what might have happened if Kwan had never gone back and approached him in the wilderness or if he had not even passed her on his way to his misguided adventure. Perhaps he may not have discovered how to really tap into his power and become alligator food, or maybe he would have just chickened out which would make today a repeat of yesterday. As he pondered, his face showed concern as he worried about how easily things could have changed. This was something that always got to him. Lex always seemed to slip into “what if” mode, which made him regret past decisions and fear future ones at times.

With a slow blink, Lex seemed to have taken himself out of his own trance. I guess it’s time to go out and see what I can really do. Maybe I’ll run into Kwan or someone else who’s cool outside Lex thought with a slight smirk as his mood slowly shifted. And it was not long until Lex was stepping outside of the bunker. With a smile on his face, he strode forward before turning into a pile of dust that simply hit the ground. FUCK!

Lex and Kwan

When Kwan spoke of her Uncle Monkey, he could tell how much she missed him just by her tone, so he decided he wouldn’t push on the subject too much. Lex learned real fast that some people needed you to tiptoe around their past. It was not the case with everyone, but when you have a bunker full of people who have lost people in their lives, there are bound to be many sore spirited ones, even if they hide it like he does. He returned Kwan’s smile when she spoke about her previous life.

“Little Whirlwind, huh?” Lex said with a grin. “Sounds like the type of character with a lot of energy, though I’m not sure what a martial artist acting troupe is. It sounds like a traveling group of martial arts actors… Am I close?” Lex asked as the two entered the bunker. The first thing he noticed was the smell of cooked meat that hit his nose pleasantly. This was good, because he was just starting to get hungry. So you plan to mix this stuff with the meat? Genius!” Lex complimented before the two finally reached the cafeteria. “Oh and as for me. I’m ust your average college student trying to major in bio.” Lex shrugged while tilting his head to the side. “Man it looks like a lot of people are digging in. Are we late? If we are you’re free to delay your end of our little bargain. It’s only fair, right?” Lex said before noticing the eyes in the cafeteria focused on the cart. As always people were curious about things brought back from outside. “Hey if you quit stuffing your faces for just a bit, Kwan and I can start on some stew!” Lex announced as the cart was pushed towards the kitchen. “Just between you and I, I suck at cooking.” Lex whispered to Kwan before chuckling.

Lex and Kwan

“The only person who needs advice on not moving too quickly is you. Saying something like, ‘make sure you keep it together’ works a lot better for me.” Lex said in jest as the two got started on moving the cart. His face was lit up like a fortunate child’s on Christmas morning. “So, it’s all about doing rather than trying. I think I’d like your Uncle Monkey. Is he the renaissance man?” Lex asked in curiosity. Kwan had spoken of two quotes, from men in her life, so it wasn’t crazy to assume that these men she spoke of might have been the same individual.

Lex awaited Kwan’s answer and when the bunker appeared into view, Lex looked upon it with a bit of a frown. It was his home, but it was beginning to feel like an island he could not leave. Even though the doors had opened, no dared to venture too far out. His eyes shifted to Kwan. Except maybe her. She could make plenty of distance with her power. Lex thought to himself as he noticed not many people around the entrance. He figured because it was getting dark, but he guessed there may have been more to it than that.

“Not much longer until we’re in. So, what did you do before all this. Before you became a delivery girl.” Lex joked, but was truly interested. He enjoyed joking, because it kept him smiling. In times like these, he needed this more than anything.
