Bio

Greetings,

I am Jb; Briton by birth, roleplayer by my own hand, and lover of literature. I am also an amateur historian, a receiver of a Bachelors degree in Ancient and Medieval History - quite a useless degree, actually - and would like to think that I'm a fair, honest and open guy.

As far as RP'ing goes, I'm pretty open to most things really, all you need to do is ask! :)

So, if you've ever any questions for me, wish to speak about RP's involving myself or run by myself, or simply feel like a chat, don't be afraid to get in touch.

@JbcoolI'm not going for a stereotypical English accent at all. I was leaning towards something more subtle. Vocabulary-wise I like the idea of just using modern English. Accent-wise, I don't even know at this point. "Sharp English" just meant modern English.

Basically Matt Kirshen rather than Andy Wood in the first ten seconds of this video.

Fair enough, good choice hombre.

Although, if you really want to make him a peasant, I suppose you could just make him a cockney - Hollywood seems to like that.

Everyone loves 'em.

CEASE.

And just like that the place was silent once more, no more explosions, no more risk of being taken off ones feet by a burning bolt of laser, and only the murmurings of the living and the groans of the near-dead able to be heard.

Put down your weapons, prepare for debrief.

The hiss of opening doorways could be heard by anyone able to listen, an entire troop of fully armoured Cadian troopers flowing into the false battlefield and setting up a cordon for the entourage of Guard officers following them in. There were a variety of uniforms among them, from Cadians to Steel Legion, the foremost figure a tall and well-built Colonel with a bionic eye and greying hair shaved close to his skull beneath his peaked cap; in his sombre brown flak armour and beige jacket he looked every bit the commanding force.

“Eighth squad?” He questioned an aide at his side, the smaller man in a simpler but no less regal outfit, one slender arm pointing toward the squad was currently huddled as he eyed a dataslate in his grip.

“Eighth squad!” The Colonel now shouted, making his way over toward them, Guardsmen cautiously forming a cordon around the group – these were still convicts after all, “my name is Colonel Harvar of the Cadian Seventy-Fifth. You have all proved yourself today, along with those other squads who competed here before you, and those that shall after. I would be most grateful to speak with the leader – or the person in command - of your squad, are they present?”

((OOC: I can only hope that most, if not all, of you are still here and willing to go on. If so then let's do this, if not, or if you are eeerring on going on, then I understand. The Emperor protects.))

They came at the trenches like a colony of ants, entire battalions worth of bodies ploughing into the fire of thousands of guns – bolters blowing badly armoured heretics into mulch, las-beams glittering in the choking clouds of dust thrown up by the enemy advance, screams, roars and oaths yelled to the heavens on both sides.

The Death Korp in this section of the trenches has done as they were told, pulling back to allow the Primaris their – as Commander Hecht saw it – vain glories, walking back and firing at their foe even as they were now forced to fight in the open. Hecht was unsure whether these Primaris even realised what they had done, now his men were without cover...the enemy did take the bait though, seeing the fire slacken on that section of the line and running toward it like moths to a flame.

“I hope you had a counter-plan, Sergeant,” voxed the Blood Angel, ignoring Von Palus – his teasing seen by the Baalite as unprofessional - “they are coming straight for us.”

Indeed they were, enemy cultists and former Guardsmen soon leaping into the trenches, the first wave mowed down by those Kriegers who weren't firing into the enemy beyond the trench, the rest coming face-to-face with the fury of Roboute's newest fighting force.

Bayonets, rusted chainswords and all manner of implements were used to club and hack at the transhuman warriors Mark X 'Tacticus' armour, while lasguns scorched and seared the ceramite.

Safe enough inside his armour, even as he used his bolt rifle to club a heretic to death, his entire head bursting like a ripe melon, Valerian knew that enough lasguns could even bring them down.
Gotta be honest, I don't know what Cedric' dialect or accent would sound like. Cedric is an old English name, so would a sharp English accent be in order?

Depends what you mean by 'old English' - Cedric actually being invented by Sir Walter Scott for a character in his novel 'Ivanhoe', though based on the possibly Brythonic name Cerdic - meaning, in short, that he'd probably sound quite Germanic, as that is what Old English is. If on the other hand you mean 'sharp English' as in upper class/RP English, then he'd sound more like a 1950's newsreader or the Queen.

To be honest, given the time period setting of this RP (roughly 1200s to 1400s), he'd pobably be speaking like Geoffrey Chaucer; here's a little example of his work from his famous Canterbury Tales...

"Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote,
And bathed every veyne in swich licour
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his halve cours yronne,
And smale fowles maken melodye,
That slepen al the nyght with open ye
(So priketh hem nature in hir corages),
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages."

- (General Prologue, 1–12)

To summarise, I wouldn't give too much of a worry and, unless you're very much wanting to be 'time accurate', I'd just stick to modern English. Being as you say a 'common peasant' though, it is probable that he'd be using simple words, being unable to read or write, and have difficulty understanding people using flowery language.

Dialect wise, well, you'd need a distinct area of Britain to find that out - contrary to popular belief, there is no 'British/English accent'.

Hope this helps, if you've got any questions then feel free to ask.
Right, chipped away a good chunk of the CS, but seeing that it is well past midnight, I'll hit the sack soon. Decided to opt for a more minor world (well, it isn't that minor in importance, but it isn't anything major and famous in 40k like Cadia or Tallarn, etc).

Awesome, and sounds good! Don't need to be one of the big ones, every Guardsperson is an Imperial hero!
@Dogematix Sly Marbo approves, I look forward to it.

@Brocktree and @Poi, any word from you cool cats?
@Trivval That's cool, as long as you're still here then it's all gravy. Idea sounds...sound. Need something to break up these Cadians.

@Dogematix Decided to stick around then?
@Andreyich@Brocktree@Trivval@Superboy@Poi@CaptainBritton@AdvancedJ3lly

Okie dokie, it has been pointed out to me that some folks may be getting a wee bit confused, and indeed it has been an oversight on my part as well. @Superboy and @CaptainBritton, you may need to edit your character's history for this.

This RP takes place circa 111.M42 - this means the ending of the Indomitus Crusade and the Lord-Commanders shift in attention to The Plague Wars. Essentially Cadia blew up nearly 200 years ago, any Cadian since then most probably born aboard a space-vessel or on a Cadian colony world (such as those within the remainder of the Cadian System. You may even be a foreigner trained in the 'Cadian style'.

Two more points which may have escaped notice.

1. Your equipment and armour is what your character would usually use, standard issue things for them; this is likely to change during the RP, so I wouldn't get too attached to it.

2. 'Canon regiment' is more just about ethnicity (Cadian, Praetorian etc), feel free to create your own regiment from one of the canon worlds.

Lastly, 'service record' can be made up, the battles/campaigns they took part in do not need to be in 40k lore.

P.S.

Hopefully, assuming everyone is still on board, I'll get this RP going by Wednesday 29th; please do your best to get your sheet in by then.

If anyone has any more questions, please ask them.
@Andreyich It's the 'current (unspecified) year' in lore; so after Cadia blows up, really.

People seem to be getting confused, you can make up campaigns etc for their service record.

Also, I don't believe there we any Kriegers on Armageddon, though I could be wrong.
<Snipped quote>
Well I feel stupid

<Snipped quote>
So then could I make either a Grenadier Sergeant with hot-shot lastpistol and a chainsword? Or just a bog-standard Grenadier with Hot-shot lasgun and... that's it?

No need to feel stupid, although I do all the time!

Either one is fine, though just bear in mind that equipment/uniform is subject to change throughout the RP on a task-to-task basis.
