Gods Among Us

It's funny, isn't it? All of humanity claims that you are all nothing but myths and legends, and yet here you are; their last hope for survival. They have no idea that those myths were not made up, but in fact the things that truly shaped the way the world was... But nothing lasts forever, does it? When one civilization falls, as do their deities.

Do you know where a God goes when he dies?

They simply burn out. Everything that once made them powerful and almighty leaves them, putting them in a state of limbo. You have been here for quite some time... But now you must wake up.

Humanity is on the brink of extinction. A dark, ancient evil that has been sleeping since the beginning of time has fully awoken. He has joined forces with dark and dangerous creatures from all myths throughout the course of history for one goal: to bring the end of days. Of course mere mortals won't realize that what these creatures are. They're shrouded in magic, taking shapes and forms of things that would be easier to explain in their safe little bubble. Water spirits turn into hurricanes, ravenous helldogs are rabid wolves, Iron golems are earthquakes, you get the picture.

While the world blows these things off like weird phenomenon; the longer they do nothing, the longer They get stronger. Oh, I know you want to know who "They" are, but all in due time, Champion. As for now, I was chosen to pick the mightiest of Gods for their chance of redemption.

You will have a second chance. A chance to mold the world yet again, but be warned; it will not be an easy task. It never is. you will return to the earth as a mortal, and for your sake, our memory will be gone. I will fill your mind with the knowledge of how the world is. Fear not, your identity will return to you, and some memories even I cannot take from you; including your abilities. To hide yourself you must start off unnoticeable, because when you gain full power, it will be far too late for Them to attack. Many trials are ahead of you. You will feel love, pain, victory, defeat, and so much death... But you will prevail. You Gods always seem to.

When you awake, you must find the other Chose on this adventure. Your paths are all intertwined, so it will not be too difficult. Be wary, Champion, for your presence is strong even at this state. Creatures and people will be more than willing to kill you. Oh, and be careful on the New York subways, they truly are worse than the pits of Hades.

Go now, Hero! Take control of the world you once held in the palm of your hands!

Hello, and welcome to the reboot of a series that I loved a lot way back when! If it wasn't explained properly, this RP will be set in modern day, with an ancient and evil threat known as "Them" for now, has resurrected all of humanity's mythological creatures in hopes to destroy humanity. While mortals can't see the creatures, they definitely feel their presence, and destruction. Chosen Deities from different myths have been brought back to the world, first as mortals, to come together to defeat the forces that want to destroy who they once looked over!

Here are some rules that YOU MUST FOLLOW:

1) Please stick to one character. Technically you can have two or more if your deity is associated with someone else, but try to stay away from that.

2) Please be respectful! I don't know why I have to make this a rule but some of you guys can be rude and we aren't about that here -.- If there's any miscommunication, or there's some conflict, please try to settle it peacefully or get a GM to help out :)

3) I prefer quality over quantity, but seeing as how this is in the Casual section, please try to do at least a paragraph in your posts, it'll help people work off your actions and stuff!

4) Please don't spam the IC! There will be a lot of people in a lot of different time zones, so we have to make sure that everyone gets a chance on the action!

5) Lastly, this is a hobby! I know a lot of people get into their RP's, but unfortunately with the way the world is, my time on the site can be very limited. I apologize in advance, but if you're committed to this world, I'll be right there with you :)

God Name: Poseidon

Mortal Name: David

Origin/God of: Greek God of the sea, storms, earthquakes, horses

Apperance: David is a little bit older, but handsome. He gives off a sense of power and authority just be looking at him. His hair and beard is thick and jet black, with speckles of gray near the temples and edges of the chin. His eyes are a deep sea green, a faint scar going across his cheekbone. His skin was tanned by the sun, and looked weathered by wind, and the sea.

God history: Poseidon

Personality: Poseidon's personality changes greatly. he can be calm, level headed, and merciful, but the next second he can be quite angry and violent. In his mortal form he is mostly the calmer, but if someone endangers him or his allies, he will not hold back. Although he's known for his anger, he more merciful than his brother Zeus, and compassionate.

Weapon(s) : Poseidon's signature Trident (Although at the start of the RP it is a rusty fishing harpoon)

I took a much needed camping vacation, and I am a teacher in the US, so these past few months have been hell with Covid :D You'll be seeing a lot of me from now on, though. If this RP is already dead, I completely understand, but I missed you guys <3

The Marauders (2018)

Walking into the room, Raymond did his best to keep his eyes away from his crewmembers who either walked by him, or stayed outside to get to work. After last night's festivities, the stench of tequila made Ray's stomach churn. With a puffed-cheek sigh, he managed to find the bar, laughing a bit at Tony's response to Astrid's. It was times like these that he knew that he was a rather lucky man. His crew definitely wasn't a boring group... And Ray's encounter with his first Interstellar Expedition crew ended with a fistfight and damn near mutiny by a rebellious Tu'Veeri. The glances the crew got were suspicious indeed. Well armed and exhausted looking people entering a locked down space port was definitely not the way you want to find an assassin. "Ugh..." Ray pinched his nose slightly, and ever so slightly using his elbow to hide the tracker on his wrist.

"Rough night?"

The Captain looked up to see the bartender give a toothless grin. The bartender was eight feet tall, had four arms, and was covered in a slime. He looked like a giant toad, especially with the smile. He had just served Tony his drink, who was now speaking a language he didn't quite make out to the Satasi. "That obvious? Ray smirked. The bartender grinned and slid a glass across the table, and accidentally dropping a bottle with his other hand. "Ah shit! Try that, big guy. That'll make you feel better, and ready for more drinks." Ray rather would have drank Valanx's toilet water, but he didn't want to be even more suspicious. With a silent prayer he took the shot, giving a shudder and shake of his head. The bartender looked over at Tony and the Satasi. Even from Ray's position he could feel the lure of the female alien, but he knew that if anyone were to outcharm a Satasi, it would be Tony's silver tongue. "You all together?" He nodded toward a couple of the Marauders.

"A couple of 'em, yeah. Whiskey please." He nodded towards Aamara and Astrid. "The others we met in port. "Ah." Was the bartender's only response, tossing him a glass of overflowing clear alcohol. "You guys definitely give off tourist vibes... I'm surprised *you* even risked coming outside." He chuckled at Aamara and her outfit. "You guys usually get a lot of visitors?" The bartender shrugged. "Depends... People usually come here for the market." He leaned forward a little bit. "A lot of criminals come here to smuggle things in and out as well."

Ray leaned in even closer. "Things... and people?" For a brief moment the bartener's eyes widened, but he moved back and looked away. "They don't pay me enough to give away all of Solela's secrets." He chuckled. Ray moved his arm to take the shot of whiskey, a slight beep coming from it. Raymond noticed the glance, and held it up. "keeps track of her life support." He explained. Once again the bartender nodded, stealing glances at the Marauders, noticing that they were all wearing one as well.

The hairs on Raymond's neck rose. "So how long you've been a bartender?"

"Decades. This place has been my home for as long as I can remember!"

"You must know this place like the back of your hand, then. I'll take another whiskey." The bartender nodded and once again poured a drink. Ray downed it and gave a satisfied sigh. "You're definitely giving these tourists a warm welcome." Ray said. "Just doing my job." Replied the bartender. "That so? Because you've been giving me Syrlum tequila instead of shit whiskey... You said you've been a bartender for a while, right?"

"You got a good eye, friend... Sorry about that, we ran out of whiskey, and didn't want to keep you waiting. I'll grab another bottle in the back." And with that he was gone. Slowly Raymond raised his hand and spoke quietly into the commlink. "Hey, Astrid, ask your friend if he knows the bartender... Josk, standby near that backdoor. Everyone else get ready."

My only question is would it be allowed for a god to become the opposite gender? For instance Hades is a female mortal.

Absolutely! If a god like Zeus can be a bull whenever he wants, I see no reason that they can't switch their gender xD

Exactly what Nightwing said, we would be reincarnated deities, but I wouldn't be against a character who was a demigod that became a god (for example: Heracles). And yeah, you can choose deities from any culture :D

just to clarify, we could either do the RP with a post apocalyptic setting, or a world that is experiencing weird phenomenon and is on the brink of an apocalypse. If we choose the later, it would be very Percy Jackson-esque in terms of how regular humans view the world. Instead of a Nordic ice spirit starting havoc on a town, it could be interpreted as a huge blizzard, or a fire demon being a forest fire, etc.

I'd love to hear feedback on which setting you guys would prefer, either one would be pretty fun :D

Thinking back on it, I made this concept in my edgy years XD maybe it would be better to take a Percy Jackson approach to it and have the world beginning to end without them knowing it’s because of dangerous mythological monsters... I think that would be really fun!

About five years ago I had an idea for a small group RP that involved ancient gods from different cultures being turned into mortals... I think Jones five years ago said it rather well:

So I had this idea in my head for a while, and could never think of some sort of plot or drive to make it happen, and I think I finally got it figured out!

I want to make an RP that involves mortals having the gods' powers. Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Chinese, Aztec, etc. But the catch is is that our characters won't be demigods. Our characters will be the gods.

All of the ancient myths were in fact true, and as their civilizations died, so did they. Their essence, their very being just kinda dulled, and became almost non-existent, but their impacts and legacies lived on, and they were in a limbo state.

Years later the world has come to an end. A very ancient evil wiped the world clean, but still humanity lived on, and with the birth of the new world, the gods were brought back to life, but in mortal form. The Earth chose specific gods/goddesses and (if you talk to me first) some mighty demigods that once lived to help shape this world, and rid it of the ancient evil that still looms over their head. No one knows what the evil is, and as they wake they do not know much.

Creatures of darkness will try and kill them, their memories will start to form again, and allies could turn to enemies under their ancient feuds. The only way for them to succeed in freeing this world is to settle their differences and go once more into the fray and fight for humanity for a chance of their redemption. Each champion will be brought back for a reason. They could be brought back for redemption, to lead the force, but they all have certain skills that they will all need.

The Gods will obviously be different since they are in mortal form. They unconsciously chose an appearance that fits they prefer (nothing flashy since they are now mortals). The memories of their past is hazy, and they forgot much, but they do know their name, and go by a human name as well. As the time goes by, as their memories form, so do their abilities. For example Zeus will have that ability to control lightning within a few days, and fully powered he could summon lightning, fly, sense air currents... pretty much anything sky related. The same applies to any god and their abilities.

Obviously to be respectful to people's beliefs, the deities have to be ancient, and a part of a mythology. Please don't try to use modern religious deities to play as (unless you talk to me). I also have the "intro" to the RP if that would help people get "in the mood" I guess XD

The Marauders (2018)

Some of the crew seemed hellbent on killing this creature and getting some well deserved rest... It would have been easier just to track the thing and save the galaxy from its sinister intentions; to do something somewhat respectable in their line of work. What his crew and the galaxy didn't know was that Raymond got to read its file. All the tests and torture it went through, Raymond read it in its entirety. Thanks to the Admiral he also got his hands on the black tapped recordings that not even the Committee wanted him to see. Just thinking about it now made the "M" that was burned onto his neck tingle. Deep down Raymond knew that if he was put in the situation of either killing the assassin or turning it in... He would have that sliver of hope. After all, the assassin shared some similarity with the whole crew in one way or another. "You can kill Torsq all you want. But it will be my pleasure to let you do the hours of extensive paper work, and give your case to the Council in a debrief that would take weeks... maybe months if you're lucky." Raymond stepped foot onto the hard dirt, and was immediately greeted by a slug-looking creature. "Welcome to Solela! It has been a while since an IEF vessel has landed here!" He looked over a gave a low whistle. "It's an older vessel... but luckily my station has the best fuel in the galaxy!" Raymond gave him a hollow smile and pulled out a few galactic credits. "She's a beauty. Fill her up, please."

"Of course, sir! I also can't help but notice that with the embargo on the planet right now, that your ship will be here for a while. Can I interest you in directions to a hotel, or perhaps a maitenance upgrade on your ship? It will cost a little more, but my men are experts, and--"

"With all due respect, I only trust my engineer with maintenance. Just a refueling will be fine... But you can help my crew and I in another way. We're looking for a cantina; some place that has a lot of excitement and good drinks."

"That would be the Phoenix, sir! Best bar in the galaxy! Just exit through the doors, follow the main road, and it is on the left, right before the Grand Bazaar! You can't miss it!... oh, and there are people there that can treat you and your crew really well if you catch my meaning. They love the adventuring type." The slug-man grinned. Once again Raymond gave a hollow smile, and slipped him another stack of credits.
"Appreciate it. Tango! You're in charge of the ship!" He motioned for his crew to follow him, and they were soon introduced to the crazy and exotic world of S07-1. The narrow sandy streets were littered of species of all shapes, sizes, and colors. You could barely walk, and vendors screaming to sell their goods. "Well shit... You guys ever heard of the saying 'needle in a haystack?' it's an Earth saying, but a loose translation means that we got our work cut out for us..." Raymond held up his wrist to see the device... nothing. With a sigh, the crew of the Monroe made their way through the crowd and found the Cantina they were looking for.

As soon as Raymond entered he was hit by the reeking smell of tequila, and dirt. Once again Raymond was left looking for a needle in a haystack. "Alright, Josk. See if you can work your Satasi magic. See what you can find. Everyone do some digging too. See what we can find out with the locals. Any shady location, smuggling cove, anything that could help.
