No offense intended. But there's a sweet spot on the sliding scale of realism, and most of the interest checks I usually see skew too far to the realism end for me.

Can't describe how quickly I go from excited to sad when a mecha premise turns out to be realism wankery.

Punk? These stupid kids.

"Your friend is fleeing a crime!"
Umeko shouted, otherwise ignoring the uppity midget entirely. If she felt like causing a scene, that was her prerogative. But Midget #1 wasn't stopping, so she picked up the pace. If the other one didn't try anything funny she'd overtake in a few moments, then she could pick her up by the scruff of the neck and bring her right back to where she needed to be.

If the other one did cause a fuss, well, there was a solution to that too. Plus she had a name to go with the photographer's description, thanks to Midget #2.

Brennan was probably amused by all of this.

The jackass.

I'm sorry Exia... Soon...

She probably just hit it with the car...

Nevertheless, the mute cranked her neck as far back as necessary to regard her CO. It wasn't a great perspective; Corinne Shourichi was kind of upside down, and it was hard to determine whether or not her unimpressed stare was being conveyed correctly. Not that it was easy to see her face.... Regardless, she endeavored to convey her skepticism succinctly despite the elbows digging into her collar. This stare was interrupted when her colleague, Anju, stepped over and asked a... Rather pointed question.

Her eyebrows arched high over her glasses, though she gave the question due consideration while she bounced her PDA from hand to hand. Her stare was redirected, this time at the blue-haired former Crusader.

"No," She began, even her TTS somehow conveying the slow, hesitant nature of the answer. Her fingers didn't match, tapping out an answer that defied her usual laconic tendencies. "Admired Zoldark. Long time. He was a fool. Those that followed him were fools. Regardless of their intentions, Crusaders killed a lot of people I worked with. Me too, but for my own fortune."

"Guarlions are excellent machines. But I see the enemy."
The mute paused in her tapping, long enough to remove her glasses to look her colleague in the eye directly. "But I'm sure I shot down some of your friends, too. You chose this side. We have common enemies now. Wipes the slate clean. But it will take time for me to be comfortable with it."
She probably wouldn't have bolted if people left her camera alone ;w;

having a photographer for a parent, i understand

"We can leave once Anti-Skill gets here, you maniac." The Japanese girl responded, giving her Irish compatriot a mild glare and light elbow to the ribs for his remarks. "And she can keep her camera, Anti-Skill may- Oh for fuck's sake."

I just want to work on my Perfect Grade!

It wasn't hard to see the smaller student twist out of Grape Juice's grip, she'd recognize a movement like that anywhere. She didn't really blame her, either. Everyone took cameras for granted nowadays. Everyone with one built into their phone thought they were a professional, that they could do everything with their little pocket computer that the pros with their expensive equipment could. They couldn't. Not just because of the technological limitations, but because of the know-how. A photographer's camera was their livelihood. Any photographer worth their salt would do anything to protect it, regardless of the circumstances. It'd be like someone tried to take away Umeko's projects. Or Brennan's probe.

So she understood the impulse to flee. Unfortunately, she just couldn't allow it.

So when Hazama hit the ground running, having loosened Grape Juice's grip, Kawaguchi was running too. The shrimp was quick, Umeko'd give her that, but the older girl's legs were longer. And when dealing with two athletic people, that edge mattered. And Umeko was cheating a little; a little extra kinetic energy each time her foot hit the ground wasn't going to make her the Flash, but it definitely wasn't hurting her speed. The photographer didn't have much of a head start, and she wasn't going to get away on speed alone.

Not only was she an important witness, Umeko didn't want her running into whatever made the first body drop.

"Get back here, kid! No one's going to hurt your camera!" A breath, and she sped up a little more. "Put it with my stuff, no one'll touch it!"

Alriiight, that got weird fast.

Two big things to note;

First, Jericho Piper was now a girl. Pretty much a perfect copy of one of the ones on the other team, actually. That... Was strange. Impressive. Pretty funny to watch unfold. But God, that was weird. Playing deceptively'd make that fun. Second of all was the Coach handing out color coded braces, which was probably wise at this point.

"Yeah, we'll go red," Ben agreed, nodding in the professor's direction. "Everybody, make sure to get your brace."

"As for strategy... Vespa's idea still works, I think. Nobody'll be paying that much attention when the game really gets going. I think the big's guy's got some decent points, and we can mostly keep the offense-defense roles. We'll see how it ends up panning out."
Seeing as they were getting color-coded now instead, Bastille's leader figured he might as well toss the shirt entirely. No point in getting it ripped. It joined his jacket and weapon with a quick toss, a movement he also used to nod to Amy. The Faunus was very team loyal, in her way, but it wasn't something he could comment on too much. Not while he was leading a more ragtag group. The bigger Faunus, he decided, was gonna be a fun guy to have around. He'd have to introduce himself a little better after the game. "They probably don't know the rules much better than we do, so this'll be fun."

"Unless anyone objects, we're probably as ready as we're gonna be. Listen to Luke, do your best, try not to bicker. Let's kick some ass, guys and gals."

”Gotta call bullshit there, Judgement-chan.

The brunette that stepped in to block the end of the alley seemed to be pulling on a pair of oddly thick gloves. Brown eyes swept the scene, a frown beginning to form on her face. The big, heavy bag that had been held in her left hand sat carefully next to the wall alongside her messenger bag.

Notably she didn’t have a green band on her arm, either.

”Not that I’ve have much sympathy if you were Judgement, not too fussed with bugging them either. Because this is pretty far beyond Judgement.” Umeko pointed as she started to make her way closer, taking stock of everyone present. But Camera Girl especially. ”Last I knew, Anti-Skill handled anything that needed a coroner. And this definitely counts.”
The ‘this’ in question did give her pause, as she got a little closer. To say that the poor woman had been brutalized would be an understatement; whatever went after her was strong, angry, and definitely abnormal. Didn’t take more than one forensics elective to see that this scene just wasn’t normal. She’d taken off running when she heard the noise (whatever the hell it was), something Griese’d probably needle her for later, but she wanted to be in time to help if something was wrong.

She wasn’t.

But it hadn’t been more than a couple of minutes, so as much as the gloves were for intimidation… It wasn’t the little group here that had her on edge. Whatever had done this, it wasn’t far gone. Her steps grew a little tenser, feet planted firmly on the ground as her muscles coiled from one step to the next, all five senses alert to any signs of danger. If something was still around, she damn well wasn’t going to let it get the drop on her.

She was pretty sure she’d seen the purple-haired kid somewhere, and he was definitely in the right here. The kid with the camera looked after as heavy as the box she’d been carrying, and no way in hell was she there on anything approaching Judgement business. The rest looked like they’d probably come for the same reason Umeko had herself. Wanting to help, got there too late. But no way was she letting anyone hit the ground running, not ‘til someone with actua authority got there.

And she didn’t mean Judgement. She preferred her vigilantes to at least be honest about what they were. This sort of thing was for actual police.

All I wanted to do was get home and work on that Perfect Grade....

“Let’s all stay put, don’t really feel like chasing anyone down. And someone call the cops. The actual cops.”

“My work is not just for show, Brennan.”

“My work is not just for show, Brennan.”

Ireland wasn't much to see, not after the Moon. The base even less, after spending even just a little time at Mao.

And returning to Earth's gravity wasn't fun. It never seemed so heavy until you'd been in space, and then it just seemed unbearable. For a while, anyway. The ride was harder to deal with than the planet. Putting UTX into a single transport was.... Interesting. Corinne was in a confined space without much of anything to do, which was never a recipe for anything good. Adam sighed often enough about it to make her wish she was deaf and not mute, and that was without getting into Anju. The ex-DC pilot was friendly enough, probably over friendly, but... Something about her blood started to heat up again whenever she saw that Guarlion. She'd fought them during the war. Lost colleagues to them. That was a two-way street; the other pilot had probably lost colleagues to her, too. But the Federation didn't start that war. The Crusaders did.

Credit where credit was due, they were on the same side now. It wasn't her place to judge. So she tried her best to be... Well, at least civil back. Admittedly 'friendly' probably wasn't the word.

Niko she had a few brief 'conversations' with, seeing as she was one of the few who would understand him and he her. It was rude not to cultivate a working relationship there. But for the most part she settled into the Tausendfussler win silence, luggage stowed and a tablet on her lap. There was a complete dearth of details on their mission, so reading up wasn't going to help her. So she passed the time watching what she had saved to its memory, the shows that would keep her entertained no matter what.

It was too unpredictable a ride to work on her scale references.

"Do we know where we're going?" Hazel asked through her PDA, yawning as she stepped off of the Taus. "And where we're staying while here?"
Ohhhh boy.
