⚘ A Brief History
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I've been at this a long time and when I say a long time I mean a long long damn time. I started out with table top, ADnD, back in the 80's, then dived into others: Nightlife, Mage the Ascension, Shadow Run, HoL, etc. Moved onto Online in the 90's. I've been running various incarnations of a single RP group for twenty years now. Worked helping setting up, building, and/or admining/modding various RP forums over the years: Adventure Quest, Priston Tales, War Gods, etc. It's been a long road filled with ups and downs. I'm an evil GM, you've been warned.

Outside of RP, I am a mom. Yup, I've reproduced and there are little Lady A's running around plotting their own take over of the world. I am a published author and once upon a time an award winning poet. I've done a lot in my life. I haven't done as much as I would like. I've grown a lot. I have a lot more growing to do. I love to cook, baker by trade currently. I went to university and majored in Mathematics. I've programmed websites, worked as a model, worked as a 3d modeler. Shit, I even used to dance. And have been known to sing a bit. Jack of all trades. Master of like 3, lol.

⚘ Looking Inside

This is where I go into my personality. In the past I would normally make some self deprecating remark about how I am a bitch of a GM, pushing my rpers as hard as I push myself and so forth. Not anymore. People change, or perhaps they just come into their own. This can happen at any age. More than that it can happen several times over the course of your life as you discover and rediscover yourself. Everything happens for a reason, usually that reason is ones owns actions. Or inaction's. Right now, I am in a better place than I can remember being in the longest time. I am happy and at peace. I have no regrets. Maybe I should but I don't. I plan on keeping this peace I have found, I went far too long without it.

Currently I am enjoying several things. Some are things I have enjoyed most of my life: Coffee, chocolate, bacon, M*A*S*H. One isn't something I have enjoyed since I was seventeen: being clean and free of poisons in my system. It is beyond description and I love it: One-hundred and twenty days and counting. Music taste is shifting to more mood oriented than anything, strange I am finding a lot of newer Country I am enjoying and I have NEVER liked country. Watching things like Lark Rise to Candleford and being hooked to the point of reading the trilogy. Recently added yoga to my workouts and all I can say is, "Fuckmaste: the fucked up in me accepts the fucked up in you."

Today and tomorrow I will be swamped with "lawyer stuff", so my post counters may run up this week. I will get posts in before my personal counters go over but if you are waiting on me and it runs your counter up as well, don't worry. I will be resetting all counters for all my Rp's this week with my next posts to take some pressure off everyone trying to keep up.

Faye... Elf Ranger... ADnD... I was 6 years old and my cousin who was much older than me thought it would be funny to have a six year old trying to play DnD in his highschool Rp group when I was visiting my aunt. Special skill that a 6 year old comes up with for her? Oh she could burp, LOL God she was a horrible character and I played her ridiculously but hey I was 6!

I got hooked then and never looked back. That was over 3 decades ago and it all goes back to the one character. So major thanks to my cousin, ~burp~, it's all his fault!
@BlueSky44 - Hey, gonna need a slight edit. You were in the middle of talking to another PC and then moved across town in one post. That really messes with the time that has passed since you are basically jumping ahead of the rest of the group and what they are doing in a single post. You an move as far as leaving the conversation but not all the way to the docks in the single post. (Plus I think you missed something in my last WN that you might want to take a second look at. Need to pay more attention to posts in general please.)

Barracks: Aziza let out a sigh of relief as Vera came to, her hand resting on her chest as the woman gawked and recoiled from the smell of the spirits. She hadn't been sure it would work but it had been worth a try and one that seemed to have paid off. Looking over at Harry she smiled and rested her hand on his arm, squeezing it lightly. "Oh, thank heavens," she said softly. Stepping back with Harry, she stayed by his side and watched as Vera decided that she didn't need help at first but it was more than obvious the woman needed a hand. She bit her bottom lip softly as the medic singled out Mr. Drake. Oh this was going to be interesting.

Vera looked over at William, slightly clinging to the medic as he came over. About to protest again, and insist that with the medics help she could make it but the only thing that left her lips was a gasp as William swept her up into his arms. Her own arms instinctively wrapping over his shoulders to brace herself a bit better. Hearing Lauren's offer her eyes spun quickly and she nodded nervously. "Yes, of course. Please. A chaperone would be most appropriate," she sputtered out. Yes, a chaperone. It was a must. Well it really wasn't. There was a medical professional leading the way out of the room and through the courtyard that was there with her and William but one more couldn't hurt right?

Aziza watched as they left the room and turned back to Harry. "We should finish breakfast," she said before walking back over to the table and retaking her seat. There was nothing else she could do for the woman right then, though she wondered just what they would all be doing today. The thought of going back to her own home made her nervous because of everything that had happened the night before but she would eventually need a change of clothing.

Swallowing slightly Vera tried to avoid eye contact with William as he carried her. The entire ordeal of being in his arms made her feel... odd. Her face was flush, cheeks warming, her heart beat kept speeding up. Was she truly sick? She felt feverish and like she was coming down with a cold. Yes, that must have been what it was. There could be no other explanation, at least not in Vera's mind. Of course it couldn't be something else, like attraction. Granted, even if that was what it was, Vera wouldn't have known it. She had never experienced that part of life. Even though Peter had kissed her before he left for the war, she didn't feel light headed like this. Not that it was nice, it just did nothing for her so it was easy for her to mistake anything romantic as a simple case of illness.

Garden City: While Aton was making his way across the city to deliver the message to Lady Munn for Nora, Neema finished up what she needed to do and passed on other chores and duties to others in the building that worked there. She was looking forward to being out and about in the city for something other than simple errands. She felt ten years younger at just the thought of being swept up in everything going on with Lady, no Miss Kingston. Looking at the time Neema hurried her older bones up the stairs to Nora's room and rapt twice before entering slowly, she wanted to be gone before her son returned.

"Nora?" she asked softly as she stepped in and closed the door behind her. "Shall we be off? I was hoping to take you to a friend of mine before we do anything else. She knows far more than I do about Bastet, being a devoted follower. I thought she could maybe lend some insight to your dreams," she said as she wrapped her shawl over her head and tucked it about her shoulders.

"Oh and I wanted to invite you to dinner at my home this evening if you would like to come? Needn't worry about my son, he lives elsewhere but I would like you to meet some others in my family. Maybe do you good to be around a family dear," she added softly as she checked her small bag and then slipped it into a pocket within the folds of her dress. "Aton will be there," she said with a smile. "Anyways, do think on it. Shall we be going?"

The Road To The Museum: "Miss!" a man called out standing on the other side of one of the man windows that were open and serving foods. "You, need food, come, come!" he said excitedly. "Try this," he said offering out small piece of torn pita bread that had something on it. "It Ful! You love it, trust me!" he said with a smile as several others sat on rickety stools by his window shoveling the food in quickly.

The pita was slightly sweet but what was on it was the true gem. Fava beans coked with a variety spices including salt, pepper, cumin, and olive oil. It was rich, and had small chunks of thinly sliced meat on it. "Please try, you like, I know. Can fix you up full sized you can carry with you. Lots of Ful, good for you. Wonderful in morning, keep you going."

He seemed rather adamant about it but it didn't seem off. As if he was just excited to have a possible new customer. An assistant of sorts was there as well, younger, probably his son and no more than twelve. He was quickly scooping out more for those already there, refilling their plates as they needed more as well as glasses with some sort of white liquid that looked to be a watery milk. Coming up behind the man was a woman that looked to be the same age as he was but she was not Egyptian in the slightly. She had pale skin and bright red hair. As she spoke she carried a thick Irish accent. "You are going to scare her, stop it." Shaking her head she smiled to Mosi. "Don't worry lass, he be harmless but it is good food. Have you eaten yet?"
Everyone is going to be different when it comes to giving and receiving criticism, that is pretty much a given.

For me personally, as a Gm - yes - I will go in and tell people what is wrong with their posts. Now, that doesn't mean I am critiquing their grammar, whether they are gilding the lily too much or not enough, or the like. When I am pointing out something about a post it is 99% of the time a rule break or a simple call out of - "Hey, you missed this", "took too much liberty here", "messed up on coding", etc. gonna need an edit. Granted my Rp's are set up to push people a bit more than perhaps they are used to and I make no claims that I won't be running through things with a fine toothed comb if need be.

As much of a "hard ass evil Gm overlord" I am, I make sure to put out as much praise, if not more, as I criticize. I make sure to call out Rpers when they do something awesome, when I see character development, and so forth. I use those up vote "likes", make mentions in the OOC, or if I see massive improvement over time I will make a specialized posting about how far they have come. Each time an Rp of mine hits a certain milestone I ~gush~ about it and thank them for sticking it out. They are what makes the Rp live.

I am very lucky when it comes to my Rps. Most I have in my Rp's currently have been with me at least a year, some far longer (one I have been Rping with over a decade); so they know to take what I say as a means to help them be better in just general Rp mechanics. Which again, my way of doing things doesn't work for everyone, it just happens to work for me and there are those out there that enjoy how I do things. Some people hate it, so we don't Rp together. They go their way, I go mine, and we are better off for it instead of trying to butt heads with each other.

With a CS, I will rip it apart before I approve it. I make sure their skills match their back story, do they think they can pull off the fears listed, is everything filled out. That is just part of the Cs approval process and is an entirely different matter.

Now, outside of an RP I am personally Gming, unless someone just simply missed something that my character did, say speaking to them directly, I leave it to the GM to do as they see fit no matter my personal thoughts. Even further outside of that, when it comes to my tutorials I always leave in there that this is my way and that my way doesn't work for everyone. That each Rper and each Gm has to find what works for them. I just provide an outlook that has worked well for me over the years. Just because it has worked for me, doesn't mean it will others.

Rp is a creative outlet. Some take it more seriously than others, some find a different way to do it. As long as you find what works for you, that is all that matters. If you want critiques, don't be afraid to ask. If you don't - set your foot down and tell someone you appreciate their outlook but you are happy the way you are. You go to a hair dresser and want them to cut your hair but the stylists says "Hey! I think you would look awesome with a rainbow Mohawk!" it doesn't mean you have to get the rainbow Mohawk, it means you can go "Yeah, thanks but no." If you want to give critiques, you can always take a few minutes to place it on your bio page that you are willing to critique posts.

Anywho, my two copper pieces worth as per usual.

>TMW you just can't roll your eyes hard enough
@Nytem4re My post was about chats in general, not just discord. As far as it not happening on Discord - just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't occur.
Underrated - Vandal Hearts (This is one of those games I would have repurchased on every release of the play station and even today it is still my go to game when I want to play but not sure what to play. Loved the story line, the characters, the options, the game play, and omg the sound track was the first I really fell in love with. I have had 3 copies of this game over the last 20 years. Any time the Disk gets too messed up to play anymore I hit ebay for another.)

Overrated - Final Fantasy Tactics (God, this one was just a disappointment to me for Tactics games. A simple cash in on the Final Fantasy Franchise name that didn't live up to anything. It was too bogged down, as if they tried to include everything from a classic FF game and a tactics game only to come out with something that felt like a failed kitchen experiment of making a dessert out of sardines. - This was the one game I actually tossed into a microwave and hit start on!)

Special Mention - Game that got all the hype it deserved... Suikoden - First in the franchise, and one I wish they would continue today. There was a reason this game got RPG Game of the Year, Best Game Story of the Year, Best Soundtrack of the year (when it was released) and why it is listed as the 82nd Best Game of All Time by Game Informer. It is everything a good RPG should be.

(And yes, I totally am showing just how old I am with these but I don't care. Yet to find a game that has drawn me in and back again as much s Vandal Hearts or Suikoden. Even today, they are just as enjoyable as the first time I hit ~start~)
Okay, going to throw in my two copper pieces as it were.

The chat is both good and bad for the forum. It just depends on how you use it.

Good:
  • Allows you rapid communication when others are online
  • Let's you get to know your fellow Rpers on a more personal level
  • You can meet people you normally wouldn't outside of your main Rp group
  • Hearing about Rps you might have missed interest checks for
  • Finding out an Rp you thought was interesting is now open again for new people quickly
  • General talk in chat can cut down in OOC spam

Bad:
  • People can tend to spend too much time in chat and get distracted from posting
  • If not moderated constantly can turn into Smut central
  • People tend to type before they speak and it can lead to trolling beyond the norm or emotional outbrusts
  • If not careful, it can still an OOC and cause an RP to go stagnate
  • Can be a bit intimidating to join if you are an introvert
  • With the amount of people under the age of 16 on the forum, really needs to have a heavier set of rules for youth protection against bullying and other things.

Now, with both the pros and cons - you can easily argue against either. And of course there are more good and bad points than I have listed. Good points can be shot down under the right circumstances. Draw backs can be dealt with using the right tactics.

So overall - A chat, like discord, is not a bad thing. It is how you use it. I personally use a private chat for all members of Rp's I GM - main reason is to cut down on spam in OOC and so people can get to know each other. It helps keep us tightly knit and I have found over the long term the pros out weigh the cons. (The length of running for my rp's and the Rpers in them sticking it out can attest to that.)

This is one of those situations that it boils down to this - To each their own. As long as it works for you, have fun. If it doesn't, just don't be a member of it. If you are a Gm and are having issues in your Rp you feel are because of the chat, simply address your Rpers and work it out - it isn't up the community at large to drop something a large amount enjoy just because you are having a problem. As a Gm your Rp is your responsibility, no one elses.

Again, just my two copper pieces.
