Bio

Current GM of World of Light. When it comes to writing, there's nothing I love more than imagination, engagement, and commitment. I'm always open to talk, suggestion, criticism, and collaboration. While I try to be as obliging, helpful, and courteous as possible, I have very little sympathy for ghosts, and anyone who'd like to string me along. Straightforwardness is all I ask for.

Looking for more personal details? I'm just some dude from the American south; software development is my job but games, writing, and trying to help others enjoy life are my passions. Been RPing for over a decade, starting waaaay back with humble beginnings on the Spore forum, so I know a thing or two, though I won't pretend to be an expert. If you're down for some fun, let's make something spectacular together.

Slakoth is the only part of the Slakoth line that I like, and I don't think one could really have the kind of fighting spirit I'm assigning to Olivie's first Pokemon.

Yo @Balthazar007, given that we're down to four player characters (Leisy, Cici, Olivie, Tommy) may if I 'advertise' this RP to some of the others I'm in, in hopes that we might get more players?
@Prince of Seraphs

So that was cool. But what should the Gourd Lake characters do now?
Abel Fulgurate

Practically the instant the airship's hatch door opened, folding down to become a short stairway for passengers, Abel was ready to board. A very rare sort of energy had overtaken him, awoken somehow despite the morning's grueling mission and the afternoon's strenuous exercise. All the same, he did not want to seem unduly enthused, so he stood by while the others made their way over, rather like a somebody taking credit for opening an automatic door. While waiting he heard the familiar buzz of a new text alert from his scroll, and dutifully the guardian removed the device from his pocket to check what he'd received.

Surprisingly, the message originated from the school itself, as opposed to a teammate as he initially expected. He scanned the lines, furrowing his brow slightly as he read about the various happenings of the upcoming Monday. Funnily enough, he hadn't even known that Monday was supposed to be a day off. The alternative didn't exactly thrill him, however. Abel felt like competing in a school-organized race about as much as he felt like a garden gnome with gonorrhea—which was to say, not at all. His first thoughts pertaining to the 'Stone Cold Showdown' were dismissive, but before he even got to second-guessing himself, Abel found his opinions changing. The more he ruminated on it, the more he imagined that a wrestling event would be just his thing. In the ring, size mattered, and that at least Abel had in spades. You know what? Abel asked himself, I'm gonna do it. About time I did something in my free time other than work out and browse the web. The only problem he could think of was large, green, and walking right toward him along with Shiro. No doubt Gren's gonna be all over this. I hope we don't get matched against one another. Hey, shouldn't it be illegal for him to compete anyway, with all those cybernetic enhancements? The question occupied Abel so much that he nearly missed the crushing sadness wafting from his tigeresque teammate like ripeness from roadkill. All thoughts of grappling, costumes, and pay-per-view vanished from the guardian's mind the instant his eyes landed on Shiro's face. Somehow, in less than thirty seconds, the most chipper and upbeat individual Abel could think of had turned miserable. He blanched, at a total loss for what to do. Luckily, Gren seemed to be on the case. Thanking his lucky stars that he had someone who could shoulder that responsibility around, Abel waiting for his companions to pass by and board the airship. Once the ladies of team KESS followed suit, Abel brought up the rear, his tentative smile more tentative than ever before.

Mere minutes later, the airship touched down about two hundred feet away and six hundred feet lower than the place from which it departed. The warm orange horizon, behind which the sun had just begun to dip, framed the city of Vale beautifully. As luck would have it, the walk to the pizzeria was not long, but the seven students of Beacon walked it in near-silence.

Abel didn't mind the general quiet. Everyone needed some time alone with their thoughts. Inside the pizza joint, Abel expected that the more intimate atmosphere would stir up real conversation among them. In the course of the walk there, he'd finished reading the school's notification message, and in doing so drummed up memories of his parents. Had it really been only two weeks since he'd seen them? It felt so much longer. The notion of his folks visiting the school brought a nigh imperceptible but remarkably genuine grin to his face. Of all the topics that might emerge over a platter of oven-fresh 'za, though, Abel didn't think that anyone's parents would be one of them. In fact, something in his gut told him that very subject might be what stole Shiro's fire only minutes prior. The thought worried Abel—why hadn't Shiro let his friends know? Then again, parental issues were definitely the kind of thing that an average person might keep bottled up. And...as much as he hated to think about it, he and Shiro weren't really friends, not in the sense that he would have liked to be. The truth stung him. But what can I do? 'How to reach someone's soul' isn't something you find in a book...

These thoughts and more swirled around in the guardian's noggin as he, along with Krysanthe, Yue, Sepia, Skyra, Shiro, and Gren, stepped into the pizza place.
@lugubriousOh. Wait, I just realized that we can only catch pokemon that evolve twice right now, and Bidoof... doesn't ._.
@Balthazar007 These rules... you wanna keep with them?

I missed that as well. If that's the case, then I'm changing it to Lillipup when I feel like it.
@Dusksong@Lugubrious

I believe that Lugubrious was going for a typically unappealing, underappreciated Pokemon to be Olivie's starter.

You are correct. That was a big part of it, though in addition, I personally like the Stunky line.
@Lugubrious@Dusksong

Hi you two!

I just got done reading your most recent posts. I know that the OOC post contains lots of content and that it's pretty easy to over look things.

Lugubrious, you caught a "Stunky". This is a dual type Pokemon, Poison and Dark. Central city is not home to either one of these types, never the less both at the same time.

Dusksong. I know that you are writing content at a fast pace and I appreciate that. Unfortunately, it seems as though you just pushed your character into the next day. It may be confusing at first, but this RP has some set time standards. You can change the time of day within your posts, but you cannot move on to a new day completely. When the next month IRL gets here, we will move this whole RP forward to the next day. In other words, faster posters must concentrate on a stronger detailed account of their day. Only seven more IRL days before we move on to tomorrow!

I edited both of your "Official Stats" to include any progress that I could, but I would appreciate if you both reworked your latest posts before moving on.

Thanks!

I see. I totally missed that types section. Drat...personally I think that it would make a lot more of to find a Stunky in a meadow given that skunks are pretty mundane, but rules are rules, so I'll find something else. I must confess though that I'm completely unexcited for the only thing that would really replace it.

For future reference, I am pretty much comprehensibly knowledgeable about Pokemon typing. This time I mistakenly worked under the understanding that there were just guidelines for Pokemon availability and not hard restrictions. For that I apologize.

Instead of a Stunky, Olivie will have a Bidoof.
A short foray into the wild turned up more than a few Pokemon, but Olivie never once got the impression that she saw all of Central City's vibrant green outskirts had to offer. Starting with the river, she watched clusters of frogs and otters, some playing together, others on the prowl for food. Very quickly, she learned that very few Pokemon seemed comfortable being in proximity to her, which -thought it made her quest more difficult- she could understand. After all, unlike the habituated city Pokemon like Pidove, which had grown bold enough to sit on the backs of chairs opposite people eating on their own, these creatures regarded practically anything with suspicion. Searching for a vantage point, Olivie located a boulder sitting in the riverside meadow's middle, clambered up its side, and lay down on her stomach with her fists holding up her head and her bosom squished against the hard surface. Ahh...relief. Mere moments after she ceased to move, sinking into the scenery, she could suddenly see much more. By the water that sparkled brilliantly in the gathering evening sky, she spotted a blue frog creep up on an oblivious caterpillar and snap it up with its tongue. The sight awoke an inkling of surprise in her; the notion just never occurred to her that the world of Pokemon held predator-prey dynamics of her own. She produced her Pokedex and logged the aqua-colored amphibian, though she didn't feel like making a disturbance by having the device read about the 'Froakie' aloud. Truly, she found herself fascinated.

No smog fouled up Central City's skylines, trash seldom wandered from its cans, and very few grimy backalleys could be found, but when Olivie closed her eyes and breathed in deeply, the air felt remarkably clear and free. Very soon, the sun would begin to set. Giving a sigh, Olivie roused herself and began navigating down the boulder. To begin her journey tomorrow, she needed to commit to getting a Pokemon tonight. Relaxing could wait until later. As she moved through the grass, stopping at each bush like a ship on an island-hopping campaign, she found herself thinking about traveling. Without any kind of vehicle, the ordeal that lay ahead of her sounded like a whole lot of walking. Just the thought of walking for miles and miles every day made the brunette's heart hurt. There's got to be an easier way... With an inward groan, she stooped over another bush.

“Cha?”

Startled, Olivie instinctively stepped back, but instantly she regretted it. What she did just now fit the old Olivie to a 'T', but it didn't suit her new self at all. Noticing this caused anger to boil within her, and with face already twisted into a scowl she peered underneath the bush. Standing just a foot in front of her, rigid as a statue, was a little brown Pokemon with a red nose, beady eyes, and huge buck teeth. Dumpy, boring, and not at all sweet-looking, it was an animal that nobody would think twice about having as a pet. Olivie stared at it, eyes hard and mouth slightly open in a critical, and she murmured, ”This angry little beast...I love it. I'll take you.” She reached out to touch it and, with zero hesitation, the Bidoof opened its mouth and chomped down on her fingers.

”Urgh!” Olivie grunted, standing back up to her full height. Determined to protect its territory, the Bidoof did not let go, instead dangling from her hand as the girl held her arm up. ”Little fight in you, huh? Good. The trainer tip I got from the 'dex said to weaken Pokemon before catching them. Now, how'm I gonna do that and pay you back for biting me? Huh!?” As she yelled, Olivie drove a right cross right into the stubborn thing's belly with furious force.

The Bidoof didn't just let go—it flew. With a low-pitched grumbling noise it hurtled through the air to land in the grass, tumbling on impact. Coughing badly, it twisted around to watch Olivie approach. By the time she drew within four feet of the Bidoof, she'd already slipped her fighting gloves on. A nasty grin dominated her features, and upon seeing it, the Bidoof bared its teeth and snarled. By gnashing its teeth together, it generated what appeared to be shockwaves, and when it let out an enraged chatter the jolt of electricity surged forth. Stepping to the side, Olivie attempted to dodge her target's Shock Wave and closed the distance, but the tiny bit of lightning arced toward her in midair and zapped her. Ignoring what little discomfort the weak attack brought, she disregarded her gloves to throw out a low kick that beaned the Bidoof's head from the side, the force of which sent it rolling about a foot into the grass. This time it didn't get up, only grumbling weakly, and when it blearily looked up it found Olivie crouching above it. It chattered, its teeth bared again to sink its fangs into her ankle, but before it could launch the attack a red and white shape zoomed toward it. Olivie smacked the Bidoof with a Pokeball to stun it, and before the critter could recover it had already vanished into the capsule. It barely struggled, and a moment later a click signaled a successful catch.

Breathing lightly, Olivie stood back up. Her ferocious glare melted away. Without hesitation she opened the Pokeball, causing the haggard Bidoof to appear in the air. She caught it in her arms, gently as she could, and squeezed it against her chest in a hug. ”You're mine now, buddy,” she told the confused creature, ”Two cuties with killer fightin' spirit. Together, we're gonna be the strongest team there is. I'm gonna take you to a Pokemon Center to get you healed up, tough guy. I kicked your ass this time, and I'm not sorry, but I hope we can be friends even if we use a little tough love.” So saying, she made her way back toward Central City as the shadows grew longer and the sky blossomed into a gorgeous and fortuitous orange. In her arms, the Bidoof didn't have the energy to struggle, but somehow it felt no fear. Only moments ago Olivie had been battering it left and right, but now she cradled it like a baby, and it found comfort in her words. It closed its eyes to block out the dazzling rays of the half-gone sun, and nestled closer to its trainer.

The city's streetlights came on just after Olivie reentered the town. Not wanting to get lost, she retraced her earlier path alongside the river. Unfortunately, she absolutely did not know where in the city a Pokemon Center might be. To that end, she kept an eye out for other trainers to ask, and after a few minutes of looking zeroed in on a likely-looking dude seated at a riverside sandwich shop. Holding her now sleeping Bidoof close, she stopped about two feet away from his table, putting most of her weight on one leg. ”Hey, you.” With him sitting down, she could look down on him imperiously. ”You gonna tell me where a Pokemon Center is, or what?” Not exactly the most cooperation-inducing request, but she hoped it would serve. When faced with an uncouth demand, an ordinary person would answer quickly and brusquely to minimize interaction. From this guy, Olivie predicted just such a response.
In preparation for another post, I'd like to ask @harinezumikouken@ryonara@Eklispe@SevenStormStyle@Pyrodash888@Lucius Cypher: are you alright with collectively going into the airship, down to the city, and to the pizzeria in my next post? I feel as if we've spent enough time at the airdocks.
@Zarkun @Lugubrious Would it be ok if Cici met them? I think she'd get along really well with Tommy.

Should be fine.
@Lugubrious I'm up for it :)
Tag me? Basically my character is backtracking back to central city for a supply run, so maybe they can meet up there and travel together for a while?

Post about your character going to the city (and catching a poke?) and I can get a post up to direct my character back to the city as well :)

I think that can be arranged. Since in my timeframe it's still not quite evening yet, I can play out the evening and send my character back to the city, and when morning rolls around our characters can meet up.

In the meantime, though, I would be up for a casual encounter with anyone else. I was thinking that since Tommy was near the same river going south that Olivie is following north, they might chance across one another, but that chance might have passed.
