Aaaaaaallllllrighty then! Chapter 2 officially ended! I'll be working on the details for chapter 3 to get started, including that (super late) Shatterpoint interlude, the news splats that tell you how things have gone between then and now, and all that junk. I expect I'll have gotten everything down and we can move forward probably anywhere between 4-7 days from now. In the meantime, feel free to make your own interludes and collaborations showcasing how your characters spend the time between major events. :)
Epsilon: Private Talk

@solokolos

Decoy considered Ira's words for a moment, clearly mulling over the best way to address the situation. To address Ira's concern. This whole event would be pivotal in the young woman's development. If not handled with the utmost care and concern, Denver could potentially have the worst villain it has ever seen running amok... The woman showed clear concern as she spoke back. <"Few knew about the true nature of Dean's power. The Director, of course. He authorized everything. I knew because nothing happens in these walls without my eyes and ears. But please, do not mistake my acceptance for approval. The decision was Dean's alone."> With that bit of information provided, Decoy wandered to one of the walls of the room and placed her palm on a holographic sensor. A small compartment slid to the side in the wall, revealing a coffee dispenser of all things. The machine seemed to funnel the black liquid from elsewhere in the building, giving the impression that Decoy's room truly was entirely self-sustaining.

The tinker poured two cups and offered one to Ira before continuing. <"The information I'm about to tell you is confidential. I will be fired if anybody learns I shared this with you. Dean, the one you knew, wasn't the first Dean."> She took a sip, not too big so as to avoid burning her tongue. <"The power steals alternate versions of the user from variant timelines. Parallel realities. To compensate for the paradox, the extras break down on a molecular level, as you witnessed. The very act of summoning his alternates was a death sentence. That said, if the user of that power dies, the power passes itself on to the alternate that is closest to the one that died. The original Dean Ryder was a Ward known as 'Spawn.' He... Didn't make it, but he had summoned another Dean. The Dean you came to know. That event was when the PRT really discovered the full ramifications of his power. Spawn had kept it from the organization, didn't want it to get out. Everyone did their best to make the new Dean at home. He chose to join the Wards himself, under the name you're familiar with: Martyr. Despite the consequences, he wanted to be a hero. Maybe with such an awful power that was never going to be possible. I can't say. But in the end, it was his own decision. Just as it was the decision of Spawn, before him.">

She finished drinking her coffee and deposited the cup into some sort of dishwasher looking equipment built into the wall. With that done, she continued. <"It was foolish to think that you of all people would never figure it out, Riese-chan. For everyone's sakes, and on Dean's request, we kept silent not only to the public, but to his friends. I hope you understand. But he... He made his choice tonight. Like he always made his choice. Like you have to make your choices.">

Again she took a seat and urged Ira to do the same. <"I've come to trust and even admire you somewhat, Riese-chan. You're an excellent student. I'd like us to be able to work face to face from now on. What I told you before is confidential because it will get me fire. What I am about to tell you now is confidential... Because it can get either of us killed. Riese-chan, I have determined that this office has a mole. Someone planted here by The Community.">

The Broker stood in one place as he listened to his employees bickering. Amusing as it would have been to someone else, he found no joy in it. First he would address Thunderbolt's question, then quash the argument. "Yes, Thunderbolt. In the basement you'll find the ledger and contact information for my people, the same way the rest of the Jacks made their requests before you joined on. As for the rest of you..." His tone rose as if preparing to give a big speech, but when it came time he spoke rather quietly. It did nothing to diminish the command in his words. "Heartless is correct. Your entourage already has too much attention from the damage you caused Noble and Captain Morales. His method looks much better to the public, and convinces the PRT you aren't enough of a threat to warrant their full attention. Which is exactly what I need them to think. Have a capital evening."

With that, the Broker took his leave. Each of the villains were left to their own devices, with nothing official to work on for another three weeks or so. This could be interesting...

Chapter 1: An Open Invitation

1313 Faust Dr.
Boston, Massachusetts
Friday, 4/13/2018
11:30 PM

Boston was not always the friendliest of places, especially so late at night. The area around 1313 Faust Dr., however, seemed to be positively quaint. A quiet area of the city, technically outside the city limits in what little countryside one could find in the state of Massachusetts, the property sat on what had to be about ten acres of land. The gate leading to the driveway had been curiously left open, and so anybody had freedom to simply walk up the two hundred foot drive and approach the large estate house. By the looks of it the dwelling had been built not long after the original American colonies were founded, but it had since been renovated many times with modern systems. Among these included a state of the art security system, but that was down for the evening. Down, yes, for the same reason the front gate had been left wide open. Because the owner of the estate had been expecting visitors.

One by one they arrived, six special individuals who had been given their summons however it would reach them. A few received perfectly ordinary station letters in the mail. One had kept to himself, secreted away from public perception, only to find his invitation placed in his drink. Another received a vision in the newspaper, fleeting but burned into her mind. The youngest was hand delivered her invitation by forces ethereal. The last had a vision whilst expanding their mind through the art of poetry. Though the methods varied as much as the individuals themselves did, there were ultimately commonalities. Each one had an interest in events and creatures that most assumed didn't even exist. Each one possessed knowledge of eldritch lore, magics they could call upon at a whim. And of course, each one wound up on the same doorstep, ringing the same doorbell, and was greeted by the same butler.

A younger man dressed in a nice suit, with tan white skin, short curled black hair, and the serious look of someone who had died. Each of the six he greeted, and escorted to the parlor room. Two couches and two chairs surrounded a large oak table. The table itself had many faces professionally carved into it, each one giving the appearance of someone in utter anguish and despair. First to arrive was journalist, eager to take on a job and provide stories for her husband. Not long after came the would-be-mother adorned in black. The minutes ticked away and soon arrived the Scottish criminal. Rolling in behind him was the child, unaccompanied by any guardian. Slipping in behind the child was a man with many scars and sour disposition. Second to last was the woman of secrets, studious and unparalleled in her memory. After many minutes of waiting their final guest had arrived: the one tortured of identity, newest to this world of secrets and magic.

One by one they were escorted by the butler. One by one they sat down. One by one they had been offered drinks and refreshments. One by one they had been asked to patiently wait for the arrival of their generous host. And so the host did arrive, but only as the large grandfather clock struck the twelfth chime of midnight. She was an elegant woman of fair white skin and raven black hair, adorned in white. The lady took her seat, the larger of the two chairs, and addressed those in the room.

"Thank you for meeting with me at this dreadful hour. I appreciate your dedication. More invitations went out, many more, but you are all that have arrived. You have my respect for making the time to see me. My name is Lady Eve. Please, be comfortable in my home. You are honored guests." She spoke with an air of authority, but also one of graciousness. The cadence of her voice was smooth, not like silk, but of glass. As though something just beneath was threatening to break at any moment.
The Cereal Killer

@Lugubrious

Runch listened intently with a smile on his face, but the smile faltered as his opponent hurled insults and accusations at him. It seemed he had utterly failed to get his point across in the way he had intended to, and ended up insulting the knight. That wouldn't do any good. Not at all. "I apologize for offending your senses, sir knight," he began. "I meant no insult. It is just curious why you would continue onward when you believe this entire tournament to be futile. But if we really must fight..." The captain breathed a heavy sigh, showing his discontent with the turn of events. Erina still held her position near the pirate, preparing herself for combat. She gripped Bend's blade tightly, preparing to unsheathe it at a moment's notice. She had already taken the ghost into herself.

"There is one thing you've said I cannot help but voice my disagreement with though, Sir Boniface." Runch took a moment to pop the joints in his neck, then kept his eyes glued to the knight's, following him as the pair circled around him. "A man chooses to be a monster. This crucible, as you called it, is merely a situation that we men have been placed in. I know my choices. I choose to sail with freedom at my back so that I may bring smiles to the faces of children across the world. You don't seem like the kind to choose to be a monster either." He placed his free hand on the grip of his pistol, already loaded with a special berry shot. Then he moved so he was back to back with Erina, allowing them each to keep a better look out of their opponents.

"The knight is a fierce berserker, but strategic and calculating. You have more to fear from the woman. She shares your power over the dead. Do not allow her to influence Bend." He gave the advice to his companion at a whisper, holding his spoonsaber in such a way that he intended to block his mouth from view. Hopefully Cyril's head screw wouldn't have been properly adjusted just yet and it would be enough to give them the early game advantage needed. Then he addressed the opponents one last time.

"Since you're already circling like sharks I doubt you'll change your mind, but I had hoped this could be an honorable duel. One on one. I don't want others to get hurt as I pursue my dreams and I hope you'll agree with such sentiment." Not even Runch believed it would have done any good. Knight or not, something told him that this knight had a stronger relationship with victory than he did with honor. After all, what was right and what actually works usually deviates. Not to mention the general attitude of the man had been quite... Nihilistic. The cap'n braced himself for an attack. The next round was now.

The Murder

@Lugubrious

The freakish man was interesting. He spouted off tidbits of information that Samuel found most interesting indeed, and wanted to be expounded. The College had a splinter group? Then whatever this tournament was all about was going to get very complex. Not that Samuel knew he'd ever have any hand in it, and he doubted the man would elaborate further. He opted not to press his luck on the issue, and placed his hand in his pocket to pull out...

Yes, definitely move your CSes over to the character tab.
In Hellpact 8 yrs ago Forum: Casual Roleplay
Ok, decision has been made. Every CS reviewed in full, every one compared next to one another. The first thing I'd like to say is that there is not a single CS that I did not like. You all did a great job, and to those are are unfortunate to have not gotten in, it is not a reflection of your overall skill and detail in writing out your character sheets. I refuse to name any specifics, but there are some that made it in that, purely from my own opinion, I like less than some of the rejected ones (but again, I liked them all). To go into detail as to how my decisions were made would frankly take forever, but the basics are thus: I looked at just about every combination of PCs that could go into a group of 5-7 people, and thought hard about how the group dynamic would actually work under the direction and stories I have planned out. So I didn't judge individual CSes so much as I judged everything as one large group. So with that said, I should announce those who have made it in.

@Old Amsterdam for Erin Zunter
@LemonZest1337 for Ross Davis
@Gardevoiran for Carnation Hendricks
@Zoey White for Devyn Haverly
@Lady Selune for Elizabeth Solomon
and @jdh97 for Mallaidh Lynch

For @RangingWolf and @AngelofOctober please know that in the event new spots become available, the two of you have first come first serve over any new interest, and I would love to see Risteal and Elias join in under different circumstances, and I am truly apologetic that I had to cut anybody.

For everyone else, prepare yourselves. I hope to have the first IC up by the end of tomorrow, or by my lunch period on Wednesday. And if you did not include receiving your invitation in your history, please add that in somehow. The circumstances are... Important.
@Solokolos 7 day call out, you for Ira is all there is, my bud.
In Hellpact 8 yrs ago Forum: Casual Roleplay
Awesome. That makes everyone. I’ll see if I have time tonight after my son’s birthday party. Otherwise expect the decision tomorrow.
In Hellpact 8 yrs ago Forum: Casual Roleplay
Ok, so it looks like the only one still working is @Lady Selune. Tomorrow is judgment day, so it’s be best to try to get it completed by tonight if you can. :)
In Hellpact 8 yrs ago Forum: Casual Roleplay
Can everyone who has completed their CS fully please sound off? Likewise, those who are still WIP please let me know. This is a progress check so I can see if I’m able to begin judging now.
