Just to clarify this is still open for new people right?

Up until the game's story coming to its eventual end in who knows how many years, yes. This game is always open and available for new interest.
Smith kept an eye out whilst walking alongside Dirk atop the fortress wall. Well, at least he presumably was keeping an eye out. Kind of hard to tell behind that black face mask. Actually, was he keeping an eye out? Honestly he could just be sleep walking. No, no he definitely wasn't sleep walking. Smith pulled out a small snack, an energy bar, and ate it right in front of Dirk... Through the mask... Without taking it off... What the fu

"Down!" Smith harshly ordered, spotting a Buccaneer pirate rounding the corner. The ninja had practically vanished into the shadows cast by the wall. Meanwhile the pirate strolled about nonchalant, whistling while he slung a rifle over his shoulder. He passed by the door to a tower on the corner of the fortress, when... Clunk! Smith emerged from the shadows and clocked the man in the back of the head, knocking him out cold. "Need to be quick and not make any sound," the Krunch first mate commented. "So we don't alert the place that there's more of us not with the group. So are you going to do something about that guy behind you?"

Oh. Oh there was a guy behind Dirk.

"If I'm not mistaken, that lad was one of your strongest men," Runch commented to captain Cedric. "That ability of hers is quite formidable. It makes her chosen contest blatantly unfair." The cereal man had no sign of his usual jolly nature. He was taking this deadly serious.

"Agreed." Hachirou grunted. "But Caesar injured her. Further performance will suffer."

"Boomboomboomboom! First victory for we, the Buccaneer Pirates! Go ahead and take a break, Launcher! You've earned-"

"You're going to be my next work of art. And I'll even paint in your style. Dodgeball." Bullet Bill turned his head to stare at the Red Rum who had interrupted and stepped onto the game court, even retrieving the lost cannonball. He ruffled his mustache in annoyance. "Ye'll be needin' t'wait until 'er round comes up again. Launcher is deservin' o'a good rest after all tha'."

Launcher was next to speak up. "I'm good for another round," she announced to the whole hall. "The undefeated dodgeball queen doesn't turn down a challenge! If I took a little rest just because of a little internal bleeding, how would that reflect on you, captain?"

Bill grit his teeth and groaned, but ultimately agreed. "Fine. It'd be a pain to setup a new challenge only t'put up the dodgeball court again anyway."

"Taking bets! Place your bets here!"

"Popcorn! Peanuts! Drinks!"

The Buccaneers hollered and cheered for another game, eager to see their beloved navigator take on another of the newcomers so soon after beating her first opponent. Launcher grinned at Slick, then spat out some more blood. "You're pretty astute, but you're not entirely correct." Slowly she lifted her right index finger, before letting it dramatically point to the cannonball in Slick's hands. "I don't need a mark to affect objects with my devil fruit at all! That was simply a 'return' vector! Anything I touch, anything at all, I can imbue with a vector to send it flying in any direction I like! At any speed I like! And anything that I touch I can remove that vector to cancel its speed! So you figured out how I returned the ball back to my hands, so what? You have no hope of dodging my throws and you have no hope of hitting me! Not when I can instantly stop its motion to count it as a catch! You're nowhere near as strong as the little puppy I just sent to the pound, so what hope do you have?" Launcher reached into the bosom of her bikini and drew out a pair of sunglasses, placing them dramatically on her face before taking a pose. "I am Mag Launcher! The Dodgeball Queen of the Buccaneer Pirates! Marines far and wide fear my abilities, crushed to paste beneath my powerful spikes! Those pitiful recruits that come to me for training run away, screaming for their lives! Now! PLAY! DODGEBALL!"

A whistle sounded across the hall, signalling the beginning of the game. One of the refs called out. "Match 2, Launcher vs. Slick! Possession, Slick! Begin!"

For reference, once I have more time I’ll be posting what the actual newspaper article says, along with a bit more details on the other info Eve researched already.

At 2:00 pm was the new designated time for the group to meet once again in the parlor of Lady Eve's manor. Those who had chosen to leave for the night and spend their time in a hotel were once again welcomed at the door by none other than the manor's nameless butler. At least he hadn't introduced himself at any point, and neither the Lady nor her delinquent son had seen fit to refer to him by name in anybody's presence, so that was that. As for those who had agreed to stay overnight in the manor proper, they had been allowed to sleep in for as long as they liked and were provided with a hearty brunch as soon as they woke. Eve and Sebastian had been conspicuously absent for the beginning of the day, all their needs attended to by the butler, who while in theory seemed to be overworked raised nary a single complaint and remained quite composed. If he were flustered in the least he hid it exceptionally well.

When the time came for everyone's first official meeting, and not a second sooner, did the Lady make her presence known with Sebastian tailing behind her. She carried herself as composed and important as ever, whilst the son kept his hands in his pockets and looked as though he'd much rather be anyplace else. "Splendid afternoon, my esteemed guests," the Lady practically sang as she took her seat at the head of the parlor table. When the butler offered her a beverage, she politely declined.

"Sup?" Seb asked, plopping into a couch cushion without any sort of grace or measure. His mother was noticeably frustrated, but did not address his attitude.

"I am eager to call to order the first meeting of the employees under Hellpact LLC. A bit on the nose I know, but I wanted to have a bit of fun with this enterprise, yes?" She wiggled her finger and several distortions in space appeared, one directly in front of each person present. They were tears in space, rifts perfectly identical to the one Seb had used to produce a brain the present night. If they were to reach into these distortions, everyone would find tucked away inside a dossier, a file containing numerous newspaper clippings and some pages printed off from the internet. Everyone's folder was perfectly identical in its contents.

"This is your first assignment," Eve began, opening up her own folder. "A mother and father reported their three children missing, swept away in the middle of the night four days ago, with nary a trace. All doors and windows locked from the inside, no signs of a struggle; one moment they were present and the next they were gone." The newspaper article was from the 8th page, obviously not something the reporters viewed as being important enough for the big stories. Among the printouts were photos taken of the family: Jace and Shania Jackson, ages 42 and 39 respectively, and their three children: Tania (14), Kalel (10), and Stevie (4). For all intents and purposes they looked to be a happy and well adjusted middle class black American family.

Though most of the fans had cleared out, a good few remained who didn't want to be deterred from their idols. As more of the heroes began to converse amongst themselves, the more the fans dispersed until it was only the odd boy or girl here and there interrupting conversations. The rest of the Protectorates began to take a break, a few of them even interacting with the Wards. Overlook was spending his time conversing with the holographic Decoy, mostly minding his own business while his therapy dog got ear scratches. G4M3R abandoned his post in order to go ask Mastar to join his Minutemen. Captain Morales stood up from his seat and moseyed on over to where Messiah had gone, which just so happened to be near Margrave and the independent hero Angel.

"I just want to thank you for your efforts, Messiah," he said. Confidence began to well up in the youth's mind, but was that the influence of the captain's power? Or just pride in his words? "While Noble and I were in the hospital you did your best to step it up, and I'm proud of you. The information the Wards gathered on the Jacks will be invaluable in taking them down. I just know it." With that he gave the young girl a salute, waved to Margrave, and stepped away.

Meanwhile Inkscape decided to take his own break. The leader of the Denver Protectorate slithered himself into an upright position, straightened his tie, and tentacle-walked on over to where Epsilon was currently alone. "Good morning, Epsilon. Decoy has been telling me good things about your studies. He says you're coming along nicely, both in normal studies and as a tinker." She got the feeling that he was trying to smile, but it wasn't entirely clear with his strange octo-physiology.

As this occurred, Furnace stood up to stretch. "Oof, my hand is cramping," he commented, wagging his wrist out. He then glanced over to Hermes. "Hermes, right? I've heard good things about your work. They say you're behind the Protectorate's recent successes against the Bratva and the Community. Keep up the good job. Hopefully we can work together?"

Noble got up to stretch as well, popping the joints in her neck as she did so. The gas manipulator caught sight of Inkscape talking to Epsilon and smiled. Her boyfriend was no doubt giving the girl the classic Inkscape "good job" pep talk. She knew better than most how well the girl was coming along. After all, Epsilon had gone to her to study her powers and develop that pack she was wearing now. Noble thought about congratulating the girl on a job well done with that invention, but decided it would be too embarrassing. Instead she caught sight of Tulpa and judging by the girl's body language she was experiencing some embarrassment of her own. Strutting like a runway model, helped by a slight bit of levitation, she made her way to Tulpa.

"Something catch your eye, sweetie?" she whispered in a low, husky tone. "Don't be uncomfortable. We're women. When we see something we like, we need to take the opportunity before it's gone. Don't you agree? You're only young once."

Just then a kid ran into the room, no longer than ten or maybe eleven. A young girl with brown hair and matching eyes, latina. "EEEEEEEEK!" she shrieked with enough sound force to crack a wine glass. "IT'S HIM! IT'S MY FAVORITE HERO!" She charged toward the object of her adoration and affection, attempting to glomp him. "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S YOU, MARGRAVE! I LOVE YOU!" No truer fan of the Margrave could be found in all the land, for this girl had it all on first glance. She was clearly cosplaying Margrave, and her outfit was pretty well made. She held up the official Margrave action figure, still in packaging. "Please please please can you sign it? Oh you're so cool and mysterious and just EEEEE I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S REALLY YOU!"

The girl then pulled out a second Margrave action figure from her coat pocket, this one had been removed from the packaging and had clearly seen some play time. "See it's so cool because Margrave makes toys from things and he is a toy but his toy comes with toys for him to use AND IT'S JUST SO COOL IT WORKS ON LIKE 20 LAYERS!"

The bartender gave a polite nod as Visage had decided to NOPE the fuck out of there. Not once did he allow his inner smile to show on his face. She'd already been in range, already been affected. Abandoning the meeting now was of absolutely no consequence in his mind. Meanwhile the last of the villains arrived, among them the multi-personality of Swarm. Once they had all taken their seats, the conversations really began to pick up.

"Well?" Sabotage urged impatiently. "Are we starting or what?"

From behind the bar, the Broker gave an ominous nod to the Jacks who were paying attention. It was time to call this meeting, to let them all know that it was time to unite against the Community.
Runch, despite having only known the other captain for a few hours at best, clapped his hand on Boone's shoulder in a show of friendship. He was apparently one to forge bonds quickly, and showed a united front against the Buccaneers. "On behalf of my crew, I agree to your terms as well. This all sounds as fun as the blind taste test I use to get my crew's opinions on new recipes! Omnomnomnom!"

Bullet Bill gave a nod. "Aye! As fer yer question about me cannons, tis really simple. They're insurance agains' cheaters!" All at once the Buccaneers began to boo loudly, but the cries died out when their captain waved his hand. "Yours an' mine. I don' tolerate no cheatin'." With that he clapped his hands together and rubbed them but good. "So le's git this goin', eh? Boomboomboomboom!"

At his urging, the majority of the pirate crew dispersed, taking seats in the stands, including the very officers he had summoned to compete. The crowd purchased snacks and drinks from the concession stand, and a man went around taking bets as to who would win and who would lose their bouts. The whole exchange was rather colorful, to say the least. Once things had died down, and Caesar was able to purchase his popcorn, Bill called out his next decree. "Launcher, you're up!" The red haired woman in the bikini stood from the stands and made her way down the stairs by way of sliding on the rails. Soon as she hit the floor she snapped her fingers, and two lesser pirates came running out to draw a chalk line down the middle of the hall's floor. The woman blew a large, pink bubble from some gum she had been chewing on, looking like a stone cold, cool as Hell bitch... Until it popped and spread all over her face. Despite this, she didn't seem to care or even notice.

"Who's up for a game of dodgeball?"

"One ball, stay on your side of the line, one point each time you hit the opponent, catching the ball does not give points. First to three points wins. Once the game starts, you cannot leave the game floor until a winner is declared or you forfeit."

Several seconds passed by as Smith (presumably, nobody could really tell) stared blankly at Dirk. A cricket could be heard chirping nearby, and somebody dropped a pin. "Uh... Ok? Glad you... Agree? Well, let's not waste anymore time, let's go!" The ninja held his hands up to show off his palms to Dirk, revealing spiked gloves. He produced another pair from somewhere and handed them to the Red Rum helmsman before beginning to scale the outer wall of the fortress. "Come on!" he urged Dirk, climbing with expertise but not looking back to see how closely Dirk was following behind him. Once Smith had fully ascended the castle wall, he looked back to help pull Dirk over the edge... Only to see the helmsman was still at the bottom.

"... I may have overestimated your ability..." With that he dropped a rope down for Dirk to use, holding the other end of it in place himself.
@Demon Shinobi@floodtalon Since neither of you have responded to my tagging in the Discord chat I’ve got to tag you here. What’s the 411 on updating, guys? Today is day 7.
Alright everyone, its officially been 7 days, so it's time to call out everybody involved in the main team stories that haven't updated yet. So on the Wards side we still need @Solokolos for Epsilon and Hermes, [@Yoshua] for Tulpa and maybe Outsider if he's participating, and @BCTheEntity for Messiah. On the Jacks side of things we have Yoshua and BC for Chatterbox and Headhunter. On a related matter I would like to ask @Spiffy and @t2wave if Swarm and Angel are participating in the villain meeting/heroes fundraiser? If so, we'll need to get a post up for them soon as you can. If not, then you know how it goes. Start up on your own little adventure or ask one of the coGMs to create a scenario for them. :)
Marque de Bourdeaux

Marque roused himself awake as he heard the howls in the distance. Never a heavy sleeper, he still struggled to come to his waking senses all the same. What could cause such a racket? He was unsure, though he'd heard stories. Stories which were never pleasant. The actor quickly gathered his belongings as his first thoughts turned to flight, but such discourse was unreasonable at this time. Though he was able bodied and could flee, the man who led them through these woods was not, and to run no doubt meant a death sentence for poor Lorenzo. Marque steeled his thoughts. Many a battle he had mocked on stage, but never truly had his life been in danger for a true skirmish. Today that would change, for he had no intention of leaving behind a lame man to die. Owning nothing worthy of battle, Marque took hold of a small log from the fire, one end still smoldering in ember. Hopefully it would do.

Lady Eve gave a nod of acknowledgement to each of her guests that accepted the offer, clearly enjoying that everyone had chosen to stay. Even Erin, livid as she was at the false accusations of Sebastian, agreed after a period of silent stewing. The rest of the night passed quickly as the Lady prepared everything that her new employees had required, setting up each one's situation to their specific and individual needs. Those who wished to be official, she gathered their information for proper bank deposit and tax forms. For those who desired not to be on any form of record, she offered to provide false identities in the event of being stopped and questioned by the police. It would bode ill for any of the illegal aliens to be unfortunately deported, after all.

Once all had been said and done, Lady Eve bid them all a good night as it was time for her to retire. Before she took her leave, the matriarch of the manor instructed her butler to escort the group to the rooms that had been provided, noting that, at least for the time being, she could only house four or maybe five (if two were willing to bunk together). Those who wanted to stay were allowed, while the remainder were referred to a hotel down the road. The group's new benefactor gave one last statement before her final departure: For everyone to get good rest, for there was no shortage of strange events now populating the city. They would be instructed to pursue their first assignment tomorrow afternoon.

Sebastian seemed bored through the proceedings, paying very little attention. This behavior was a combination of pure disinterest, as well as fatigue. The bags under his eyes were proof enough of that. Yet despite it all, he seemed fidgety. Twitchy. Excitable. Desperate for something entertaining to occur. Alas, he would not receive his wish this night, and Sebastian retired along with his mother, knowing that tomorrow would be a better day. He, as well as the rest of the group, would have the rest of the night and the following morning to reflect on events.
