I started RP before double digit age but you couldn't have gotten an admission I was under 18 under threat of death. Kids just casually admiting it online now is wild.

Kayliss Lambert

Fortunately, she'd gotten the herbs she needed and managed to brew them before the Lions set out to battle. And as much as it rankled to have to just stand there and listen to the merchant talk, Kayliss eventually acquiesed to the nem's demand to be her main supplier of herbs. Of course, the woman's demeanor didn't fool her for an instant. Evidently, she knew enough of herbalism to realize Kayliss was brewing poisons, but wouldn't bother to delve deeper so long as Kayliss continued to patronize her with her business. Fine enough. In the absence of the Crownsblades' network, a foreign merchant would do well enough, so long as Lirrah continued to throw her lot in with the Lions.

Kayliss had placed herself with the ambush team. As per Velvetica's orders, she was to break off and assassinate the necromancer once the initial attack succeeded. And so she crouched down beneath her cover, crossbow drawn and a bolt already loaded. Once the word was given, she would rise up from concealment, sight a target, and fire.

The hooded woman resisted the urge to sigh as she continued to brace for the start of the battle alongside the other ambushers. While she was used to this sort of wait as an assassin, that didn't make it any less tedious. Would that she was going in to the latter part of the skirmish with more information on the layout of where the necromancer had holed up, but there had been missions with more spotty intelligence in the past. She would make do.
Renar Hagen

"About time he decided to show his face." Renar murmured, rising not long after Gerard did and following after. As Renar stood and turned, Fionn's erstwhile companion had him quirking an eyebrow in mild surprise. He hadn't interacted with her at the ball, and she'd certainly been more fair-skinned that night, but that was unmistakably the younger elf that had been at the Gentle Blade's side. Her daughter, perhaps? Niece? The girl's words he managed to hear as he drew closer didn't deny that, at least.

"Right here." He responded easily to Fionn, giving the two of them a brief smile and a raised hand in greeting. "Did you have to practically kick the door down, Fionn? Trying to keep the carpenters earning their pay?"

His piece said, Renar shifted his gaze towards the elf practically hiding beind Fionn.

"Looking for the Knight-Captain? We can take you to her office, though I'm admittedly unsure of where she is at the moment. But where are my manners?" He gave a brief bow. "Renar Hagen. Apologies for never introducing myself at the ball. There was never a good time for it."

Izayoi's ears twitched slightly beneath her hat upon picking up the moogle's words. Yes, that would be a problem. When she trekked south through here to reach Balmung, she'd simply laid down in the tall grass at night and covered herself with a tarp. A full party and camp would be nigh-on impossible to conceal out here, even without the obvious mistake of starting a campfire in the midst of an extremely windy area with nothing but tall grass surrounding them.

That in mind, Izayoi urged her chocobo forward a few more steps ahead to where Galahad was riding, with the Skaelian woman she'd offered a place in the group to not far away.

"Dragoon," Izayoi said tonelessly, staring out at the sea of grass. "How do Edrenians typically set camp out here?

"With a machete." Galahad called back in reply, his head turning back to face the approaching birds and riders. "Once we find a particularly tall patch of grass, we can cut a clearing. People won't see us until they're practically on top of us."

Looking back at the wagon behind them, which while drowning in the emerald green, was still poking out well above the tops of the grasses, Galahad grimaced. He was used to traveling alone at this point- the wagon, while a useful tool for storing material and supply, meant they were considerably more noticeable than a small group of riders.

"The wagon adds a challenge, but we can tie the grasses we cut around it's top for camoflauge. If we're concerned about people spotting us, we'll likely have to go without a fire."

Overhearing the conversation, Éliane nudged her chocobo closer. Like the Ospreyan, she was unfamiliar with dealing with this sort of environment. "I'm not enthusiastic about the wagon either, it's a liability."

"Very well." Izayoi nodded. Her sword would serve well enough in place of a machete. Though the mention of the wagon did have her frown. If it weren't for the free supplies, she wouldn't have even consented to taking it along. They weren't even large enough of a party to require an actual supply train, anyway. And once they were closer to Osprey, well...

"Stopping in Midgar was mentioned earlier, and I concur. Moreover, we can discuss whether we wish to continue with our current travel arrangements as we are. I can tell you right now that continuing on with silver chocobos and the wagon will bring more trouble than it is worth in Osprey."

Éliane gave a thin smile at that. "I'm the worst person you could get for covert operations, but even I can recognize mounts and organized parties in occupied territory isn't going to work out." She glanced over at the wagon, and the small moogle that sat in front of it. "Yeah. He'll be a liability in combat even without the big thing."

"I suppose it wouldn't be in Valheim's nature to just let us wander into Osprey unmolested." Galahad sighed, nodding in agreement. "My cousin is good with pen and blade, but subtlety was never his strong suit."

Éliane grinned at that. "Nor I."

Glancing around at the party behind them, he frowned. The silver chocobos were a dead giveaway certainly, but chocobos would allow them to travel faster and with less exertion than they otherwise would on foot. Galahad himself felt plenty fast on his feet, but the others might not agree- especially once their journey started in earnest.

"What type of beasts of burden do they use in Osprey?" Galahad asked, "If it comes down to it, it shouldn't be too difficult to source enough plain chocobo for the journey- though I admit I am a bit attached to Korin here."

"Yellow chocobos are common enough. Although a rarer sight among the populace now with Valheim's ruinous taxation. You are a lord, are you not? Purchasing a half dozen chocobos should be of no difficulty to you. If you are concerned with offending your illustrious cousin, simply have the silver chocobos sent back."

"My family owns a stable of chocobo, mostly for use by the city's defenders." Galahad nodded in agreement, chuckling a bit. "I'm sure plenty of them would be thrilled to trade their mounts for one of Leonhardt's silver birds."

"Not sure about that," Éliane replied as she shook her head. "They might be useful in the future. I'd rather borrow some normal chocobos and have the silver ones stabled somewhere safe to be collected later. Midgar, maybe?"

"If you insist." Izayoi sighed. She couldn't quite deny that the silver chocobos might be useful somewhere down the line. If they had to operate further in Edren, mostly. "Any supplies in the wagon we cannot carry with us ought to go some way towards covering more necessary costs in the future. Though that brings up the question of what to do with the moogle."

"He would be perfect for looking after the birds, wherever we keep them," Éliane pointed out. Although he had been a reasonable guide so far, as far as she could tell he was a civilian. No way did she want him tagging along into a warzone.

"I don't suppose anyone has asked if the moogle if it's any good in a fight?" Galahad shrugged, "The creature is small, but those things generally seem to find their way through trouble unscathed."

"We can inquire when we make camp." Izayoi remarked, her tail beating against the back of her saddle briefly as she glanced between her newfound companions. "I would know. What drives the two of you to embark on this quest? Both of you are aware that I am here solely to take vengeance upon Valheim, but I am unaware what motivates either of you."

"Well, Blighted monsters have been driving dragons ever closer to Midgar's surrounding lands, and after the war we lack the adequate number of dragoons necessary to hold them off." Galahad said with a bitter sigh, "Besides, my cousin called for me, I'm not exactly in the position to decline him."

"I could talk at length about how it's the noble thing to do, or how it is for the good of all people," Galahad chuckled, his armored shoulders clinking as he shrugged. "It's certainly both those things. But really, I just don't like sitting still."

Éliane replied after a moment of thought. "A few reasons. I want to put a stop to this before my homeland is destroyed, and I'm not going to wait until Skael is the last man standing." She looked almost thoughtful, before adding with a grin, "Not much fighting to be had at home, anyway."

Izayoi processed these claims for a few moments before simply nodding.

"Good. I was hoping for less...idealism. Easier to tolerate." She commented, continuing to look out over the extremely grassy plains. "I assume we'll be making camp at your discretion, Galahad. We'll have further words later. There are still issues to resolve between us." Her piece said, Izayoi let her chocobo fall back a few paces, clearly finished with speaking at the moment.

Theodoric Branden Marlon

Doric met Andrion's grip with an equally firm one, taking care to match him exactly. No firmer and no gentler. Godson, eh? So the massive blonde was a ward of the church. How curious. He was certainly more...outspoken than Doric had expected for someone raised by the clergy. Not that he minded. Andrion didn't seem like a bad sort, but first impressions weren't everything.

"Perhaps," He chortled in response to Andrion's comment about Sherry. "She's been like that for as long as I've known her, so you may just get away with it. I might start having to do so, myself." With that said, Doric let Andrion walk further ahead to deal with the conversation about...eating flowers? Confusing enough without context that he certainly wasn't dealing with it. Especially if Parth decided to butt in already. Doric wasn't putting himself in that line of fire.

Instead, he shifted his attention to where Roland was covering for Sherry to a noble girl he didn't quite recognize. She certainly wasn't from one of Mordlind's great houses, and considering Roland didn't seem to be familiar with her either, that really only left Cretus. The third blond certainly wasn't a commoner, that was for sure. And then she gave her name out. Pernachis. Not a family he was familiar with, so it stood to reason she was of a lower house.

Roland and Eleventhia were close enough that they'd have to have heard his own comment on Sherry's fondness for wyverns, so Doric simply fell back slightly to walk alongside them.

"A pleasure to meet you, Elevinthia. And Roland, accept my apologies for not being able to catch up sooner. It's been almost a year, after all. How have you been? Taking some time for yourself, at least? I can only imagine how stressful it must be dealing with Sherry on a constant basis."

Salvator Rasch

If a certain few of his squadmates survived this first mission, Salvator was running them through a basic primer of how to actually manuever around a battlefield. He knew the Envenomed were short on personnel, but would it have killed their handlers to give the civilians they pressed into combat some training? But wasn't this the story of his damn life? Running from shithole to shithole, dealing with half-trained civilians and mercs for how long now? Decades? God, but that was depressing.

His brain registered the jets and artillery screaming overhead, but decades of war caused him to barely note them, the sounds commonplace by now. If they weren't homing in on his position, it didn't matter. Salvator kept his gun steady and his steps silent as he stalked through the abandoned village, checking his corners. The aftershock of the nearby artillery blast was alarming, and he briefly swept across his field of vision, looking for any movement as a result of that. Nothing in the immediate vicinity so far, which was both good and bad. No potential contacts yet, but that meant any surprises waiting for them were disciplined enough to not break cover.

"Smells like a trap. They move in from outside, wait inside, and they have us. You hear our contact?" The Tarrhaidim in the group rumbled, and Rasch nodded in agreement as he stacked up next to the lumbering alien along the wall.

"Don't like this. Echo, you've got the best comms tech among us. Try to ping our contact, you've got the codes same as the rest of us." With that said, he looked between the other two who had moved up with him.

"If we don't get a response, I'll move in with a stealth field and do some recon. Better if only one of us springs the trap if there is one. Kid, stick with the big man and keep your head down. Contribute where you can."

Renar Hagen

For all of Gerard's self-depreciation, he did bring up a good point. They were already training as hard as they believed they could. More effort would only lead to injury, most likely. So then, what to do?

"At least you're finally getting it through your head that you ought to be at least trying to fight in a less suicidal manner. Although that begs the question of how I ought to change my methods." Renar mused aloud, while already coming up with the basics of a plan in his head.

"Hauling statues doesn't seem to be a poor idea, at the very least. I do know that between all of our little training group, I tend to focus more on technique than outright force. Adopting a more rigorous method of physical conditioning ought to provide dividends. Though I don't quite intend to neglect arms training. Or reduce it, for that matter. But perhaps what we all need to improve faster is a change of pace. New foes to practice against." A sigh. "Dame Lilette is still within the city somewhere. I intend to find her. From there, it's a matter of seeing exactly how I can bribe her into training me for however long she intends to stay in Thaln. And by train, I mean repeatedly beat me to within an inch of my life until I can better stand up to someone of her calibur." He took a sip of wine to fortify himself. As it stood, Renar truly didn't see a better way to become a better combatant faster than this. There were more sane and less grueling ways, certainly. But those would take longer than he feared they had until the next great threat arose.

"As I see it, she's likely been asked far less than Dame Tyaethe about this. Which means it won't be as impossible of a task to secure her assistance. And by the time she leaves, hopefully I'm improved somewhat enough that the aforementioned might be interested enough to continue that training."

Renar Hagen

"So, allow me to get this straight," Renar started incredulously while pouring himself some more wine. "You're more angry about being physically thrown around by your opponent than losing to them? That's the same thing as being outmatched, you dolt."

Outmatched was a term that brought some recent connotations with it. Renar's mind briefly flashed back to that dream he'd had. Certainly, some of those losses he could have accepted. But others? Not a chance in hell. Steelfang's outline remained in his thoughts for a moment, his brow furrowing. At least Gerard had one thing right in what he'd said though.

"You aren't incorrect in that regard, though. We need to get stronger, more skilled, better. All of us. A more foolish man would be more content with humiliating their half-brother in public before Thaln's nobility. I, however, fully intend on not resting on my laurels. Technique is one thing, but if there's anything I've gathered from your tale of the catacombs, we've a significant amount of physical conditioning to go through. Skillful tricks won't help us close the gap in direct combat against a mage."

The lightning mage that they'd mentioned had been...concerning. Especially considering the fact that they hadn't just killed her the moment they had the chance. Soft-hearted fools. And Serenity, he supposed.

"Next time, if I'm not there, do us all a favor and ignore the ones who called for not killing the dangerous, hostile mage. Unless it's a demand from the Knight-Captain or Paladin Tyaethe, the rest have no greater authority than you." He shook his head with a sigh. "If that loose end doesn't come back to haunt us, well. Care to stake some gold on it?"

Renar Hagen

They'd decided on drinks after training, as usual. Renar sat across from Gerard at the table, taking a sip of his wine as he observed his friend staring straight down into his mug of cider. Were it anyone else, he would have assumed that his fellow knight was simply tired out from an afternoon of constant attrition and combat. But this was Segremors. The poor fool had a tendency to obsess over what others would find trivial.

"You're going to be like this all evening if I don't say something, so let's hear it." Renar sighed, giving in and making the first move. "What's on your mind this time? Worrying your head off that Fionn broke routine once and didn't train with us today?" The thought had crossed Renar's mind a few times, but it was doubtful that one instance meant anything. If it continued to happen, it would be cause for concern. But a single absence could have been due to anything: a letter to send off, supplies to purchase in town, or even a case of the runs.

"Or is this about the Demonbreaker still? Had I an inkling that he was down there, I would have joined the lot of you. Still almost jealous, really."
