• Height: 6'1"
• Hair: A brunette that could sometimes pass for a dirty blonde in the right light. During school he was clean cut, but now he's more forgiving of facial hair, specifically a light beard. His hair is a bit scruffy even with combing.
• Eyes: Dark blue.
• Body Type: Scott has kept in shape though not quite to the extent he did in high school. His shoulders are broad but his physique is more limber rock star than body builder. He's hit the gym more often since returning; there's not much else to do, and his body is thanking him for it.
• Clothing Style: He's well dressed, which is a change from simply wearing t-shirts and jeans in his youth. He's really come around on khakis and will often wear a jacket with an undershirt. Enjoys long sleeves, not because he has something to hide but because they're comfortable and can be casual as well as formal. _Personality:

There's a reason people hate lawyers until they need them and Scott isn't exactly doing anything to change that reputation. He is charismatic in the way that a car salesman, or a conman, is. It's not just in the way he talks, always knowing when to smile or smirk or to offer a promise with his eyes when his words can't, but it's also in how he carries himself. He knows full well that doors have a tendency to open when you're tall and (dirty) blonde and handsome. But for all the gift of the gab, Scott has a wonder if he's even capable of having any sort of real, meaningful conversation if he routinely treats people like, well, clients.

He doesn't lack in empathy, but he also finds it far too easy to lie and lie and build on those lies to the point where the wrong kind of push threatens to make everything crash down. He doesn't believe he's a bad person, but then who really does? Before he left for brighter pastures, Scott was regularly called a 'sweet boy' by the older residents of Pines Holler and considering he was always willing to do some yard work or little errands as a teen, it was no surprise where that reputation came from. He's still willing to do yard work, the only difference is back in his youth he did it to be kind; now he'd do it to earn some cash or to negotiate a place to stay.

He knows that his lies will likely catch up to him but Scott harbors deep embarrassment and shame about his career failings that he doesn't want to get the sympathy party from his old town. So he lies. So he distorts the truth. So he says whatever he can to get a favorable outcome in whatever he pursues. He may not have a license anymore but he's still a goddamn lawyer at heart. And maybe being back around people that still remember the 'sweet boy' or still get excited saying '22! TWO TWO!' will do him good.

_History:

Scott Dawson had all the makings of a Pines Holler lifer. The kind of person that was born, raised, and would grow old in the blanket that was small town living. And it was easy to see why. From a young age he was enjoying the small town delights. Fishing. Climbing trees. Being part of the community. He found sports at a young age thanks to his dad, whose particular vice wasn't alcohol or drugs but something that could just as easily tear a family apart. His father, Mark, had dreams of athletic glory but it was wishful thinking. Mark was more the kind of person who wrote about sports rather than play them.

Football was where Scott shined athletically. He was a wide receiver and was known for his speed allowing him to take open pass routes and make catches that otherwise seemed like they'd be incomplete. But his passion was never football. It was just something to do and it made people happy. He dreamed of more, not of being an athlete, but something that mattered. He read watched the books movies of authors like John Grisham, particularly The Rainmaker and A Time To Kill. The idea that some young hotshot could make a difference in the world just by using guile and charisma? How could he not think it was the perfect path?

His grades, though, weren't anything to write about. He was coasting on athletics. His father thought he was wasting time, that God gave him a gift and that Scott was squandering it. But Scott knew that being decent at football in a small town was different from being good at football in a professional sense. Scott's mother, though, was supportive and was the one who gave Scott the money to send college applications and enough pocket money to get by when he finally did get accepted. It wasn't a great school, but it was out of state and had a law program.

When Scott went away to college, the glue holding his parents together went with him. His mother, well aware of the vice her husband was a slave to, grew distant. Which only continued to drive Mark Dawson into the messages and hotel rooms of others. Stephanie knew what her husband was doing, and Mark could apologize with the best of them, but neither wanted to admit that their marriage was all but over. So Stephanie took on the burden of maintaining optimism while Mark grew more and more indulgent. The two of them maintained the act for the sake of others. For the sake of Scott, who had already known of his father's affairs before his mom found out. But Scott didn't want to hurt his mom or betray his dad. So he said nothing. Maybe if he had spoken up, things would've been different. Life is full of maybes.

Scott took his studies seriously and while he was never top of the class, he did get through law school while working at a sports bar cleaning tables and dealing with drunken women who found his southern boy charm, well, charming and drunken men who loved to argue over teams. Scott might have enjoyed some unexpected perks of being around alcohol when not at class, but he was young and the idea of being a potential home wrecker wasn't on his mind. In that way, he was kind of like his father.

Once he passed the bar, he wanted to tell his parents but that was when he learned he had missed the funeral of his father. A heart attack. Scott spent some time in mourning, drowning regrets, until he was hired by the Stone, Slattery, and Whitley Law Firm. He was taken under the wing of Martin Stone, one of the partners of the firm, and he was like a second father figure, showing Scott the real way law worked. He was eager to learn. To absorb it all. Scott even once referred to Martin as "Bruiser Stone" but Martin didn't get the reference. Martin kept building Scott up, having him experience trials and getting that experience until he was given the reigns on a case well before other juniors in the firm were typically given them.

Scott just assumed Martin saw something in him.

He was right. Martin saw a perfect patsy.

Scott was supposed to defend a woman accused of murder. Rich deceased husband. Life insurance pay outs. The stuff legal dramas were made of. Scott got a little too close with the client, thinking that he could get find something to help the defense. At the same time Stone, Slattery, and Whtiley was being audited. The stars aligned and Scott was held responsible after being found sleeping with his client under the guise of using her money to funnel into the firm. Embezzlement was bad enough, but violating the client's trust like that was worse. He pleaded for Martin Stone to help him. But Stone did nothing. Scott was disbarred before his career could even take off.

His only solace was that his situation would likely not reach his hometown. With little other option, Scott found himself returning to Pines Holler. As far as they know he's still a 'big shot lawyer' and he'll let them think that. Maybe even make some vague notion of starting a private little firm near town. But he just needs a place to lay low and keep in good moral standing. Maybe then he can appeal and get his job back.

But things are rarely so simple.

_{Extra Facts // Headcannons:}

• Scott isn't much in favor of the expansion even if it won't really impact him once he leaves again. If he does. He's seen other small towns lose their charm and knows that most of the people won't have anywhere to go if they're pushed out. But he's not naive enough to think that a small community can stand against corporations with bank accounts bigger than the income of the citizens.
• As evidenced by his tattoo, he's secretly a fan of comic books. Or at least a fan of the Green Lanterns. His favorite is Kyle Rayner.
• He's not so secretly a mamma's boy at heart.
• Is well aware that his past habits of hooking up with not always single people made him similar to his father. But since he has never cheated himself that he's somewhat blameless. It's the lawyer in him.
• He was the one who called Cousin Willie to have him keep an eye on his mom. Willie already was.

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Fulton was born and raised in Pines Hollow. The result of a teenage pregnancy, Liz’ mother was kicked out of home causing the family of 3 to have to live with her father's parents, sharing a bedroom until Liz was 6 years old. Her parents, wanting a better life for Liz, finished their GED and her mother completed a teacher degree. Just before her mother's graduation they scraped enough money together to rent a 2 bedroom trailer.

In her formative years, money was tight but Liz would barely know it back then those times, surrounded by many kids in the same position. No matter what, her parents made sure her belly was full and she was cared for. It took a couple of years for her mother to find a stable full time teaching job at the elementary school a couple of towns over but doing so seemed to cause a shift in the Rhodes family. By the time Liz was 12 her parents had managed to buy a modest 2 bedroom house on Digger's rd, their pantry was always stocked and the family didn't need to rely on hand me downs any longer. In terms of the country, they were lower middle class at best but Liz felt rich.

From young her parents attempted to instill morals of responsibility and hard work. She learnt how to keep a budget and balance books early in life. Her parents worked to make sure she'd break the cycle of financial insecurity that ran in her families. Liz had always kept these skills for better or for worse. She was always good with money but forever scared of how close she could get to losing everything.

As middle school faded into high school Liz found her passion in art, particularly in expressionism and abstract art and photography. In this time she also found herself the passion of one Damien Fulton. Liz did grow up playing with Damien at the trailer park alongside all the other kids but they were never super close. There's no doubt Damien fell first but Liz is sure she fell harder, although she would not have admitted it at the time. The pair started dating just before junior year.

On graduation Liz got accepted into an art program at UNCSA. She worked 2 part time jobs in her final year of high school to save for college and her parents gave her some money but she still needed financial aid for the majority of the degree. She moved into a dorm at the university, leaving her family, friends and boyfriend back in Pines Hollow. Liz found herself hating it. She hated uni life, struggled to make friends, found the content and marking too subjective and was incredibly homesick. She dropped out after the 1st semester and returned to Pines Hollow.

She returned to her job at waffle house, working full time and soon after her return moved into a one bedroom trailer with Damien. Damien proposed about a year later and the pair wed when Liz was 22. Liz soon started working at Husker's bar full time and was able to properly make repayments back to her student loans.

Damien and Liz stayed at the trailer park for nearly 10 years, trying to save where they could. At 32 Liz’ student loans were fully paid off and with the extra income the couple decided to move to a 2 bedroom house on Miner's street where they continued their modest but happy life.

About a year and a half later Damien got promoted in the lumber mill and for the first time in their lives the Fulton's knew what it was to not have to choose between saving or living beyond basic needs. With his promotion the couple decided it was time to build a family. Liz had always wanted a child but refused to bring a kid into the world she couldn't afford but now she could be a stay at home mother and still live comfortably.

Just a month shy of her 35th birthday Liz discovered she was pregnant and the couple sprung to make preparations for the baby. Liz planned to work right up until her due date for some extra money but ended up struggling too much with morning sickness and sciatica so left work only 4 months later. All seemed to still be ok, that was until Damien lost his job and now the Fultons are facing dwindling savings with a baby due in 2 months

• Liz doesn't care much about the expansion vs non-expansion debate but she does care about the impact it has had on her family, namely ripping away their financial security
• She paints and sells artworks onlne. She doesn't earn enough to make a living but it gives her family a little bit of extra cash every now and again

🦋 Dallas Eliza King was the product of a one night stand her mother Susan King had with Texas carpenter Austin Hayes during a trip to Vegas to visit her older sister Stella.
🦋 Although Susan and Austin tried to make things work, the shotgun relationship was not successful, resulting in Susan moving back to the home she'd once shared with her mother Betty.
🦋 Born and raised in Pines Holler with her mother and grandmother, Dal hasn’t known a life outside of the small, closely-knit town she grew up in.
🦋 She shares a very distant relationship with her father, who thankfully stepped up to the plate and economically supported his daughter with what he could.
🦋 While her mother worked long hours to support them at the big hospital half an hour away, Dal grew up mostly under the care of her grandmother, who taught her the basics of homemaking: cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc. She unfortunately passed away a month before the girl started middle school.
🦋 After her grandmother’s passing, Susan inherited the trailer the three women shared, and left the now self-sufficient Dallas to fend for herself without a babysitter or caretaker from that point onward.
🦋 As is to be expected, Dal took advantage of all this free time to play "pretend influencer" and teach herself skills like doing her hair in different ways, makeup application, nail art, etc.
🦋 At age 15, with her mother’s permission and in hopes of killing boredom and earning money for her own expenses, Dal sought employment at Lou’s Diner, where she has been working to this day.
🦋 At age 20 and after a month of dates, Dallas got involved in her first serious relationship with Valentino Lockwood: a widowed law enforcement officer 12 years her senior.
🦋 Their love story started off quite dreamily, with Val sweeping Dal off her feet and the young woman thinking she'd finally found the Prince Charming she’d live happily ever after with.
🦋 It was after Dallas moved in with Val three months into the relationship that the cracks started to show. Valentino drowned his inner torment and the stresses of the job in alcohol, which turned him into an angry, moody man that the concerned and nervous Dal felt she had to walk in eggshells around. The smallest of remarks would send the man into a rage: snapping at her in a raised voice, flinging whatever items were in close proximity across rooms (sometimes in Dal’s direction), kicking and punching walls and doors…
🦋 The naive, guilt-stricken Dallas stuck around for nearly a year, making herself smaller and smaller as she desperately tried to “save” a Valentino that was only growing more volatile as the months went on.
🦋 Two months after their first anniversary, Dallas attempted to have an intervention with Val, which concluded with the man forcefully grabbing her by the arms hard enough to leave bruises and yelling in her face that “he’d stop drinking whenever the fuck he wanted, not when some spoiled brat told him to”.
🦋 Struck by a rare moment of clarity, the sobbing, heartbroken Dal packed up her things and moved to her cousin Mollie and her husband Kent’s house, all the while ignoring Val’s profuse apologies and pleas for her to stay. She was too ashamed to return to her mother’s house, who had warned her moving in with Val was a bad idea.
🦋 While Dallas did stumbled a few times in her quest to completely cut off Valentino from her life, she has been successfully keeping her ex at arm’s length for the last five months… Which is good timing considering her sights have been set on a certain ex-con from the moment she laid eyes on him the first time he walked into the diner after his release.
🦋 In the present, Dal continues to live at Mollie’s home, dividing her time between work, her social media/beauty content hobbies and supporting her cousin through the loss of Kent.

More quiet and reserved than not. She prefers to read a room and the people in it before making herself the center of attention. Jane chooses her words with intention rather than impulse and she doesn’t feel the need to be the loudest voice to be heard.

Growing up, she witnessed her mother endure an endless cycle of abuse, driving her to never tolerate similar behavior and shaping her into the type of person who will stand up for others the moment a line is crossed. With that said, she has failed to recognize when she herself is in need of saving a surprisingly number of times.

On the job, Jane is strict, but fair. However, whenever she’s off-duty, she might as well be a completely different person. She’s a homebody at times but also quickly out the door any chance there is, whether that’s spending a couple of hours at the bar or target shooting with night vision goggles in the woods.

_History:
Born and raised as an only child, Jane spent most of her childhood outside with a few close friends. Some have since moved away, and one of them even passed from an overdose incident. Her one close ally, Micaela, has been like a sister to her, and that’s whom she grew up alongside. They’ve been inseparable from a young age, and anyone who knows either of them knows the other.

More often than not, Jane would be at Micaela’s house as her mother suffered more than her fair share of domestic violence incidents throughout the years from Jane's biological father, Stephen Hunt. Rather than bear witness to the abuse, Jane would be sent off to her friend's house and hours later would be returned home to the broken-down woman with a black eye that was her mother. It was only when she was old enough to comprehend what was happening that she starting showing behavioral problems.

Her shift from a happy child to a troubled kid did not go unnoticed. This angered her dad even more, eventually leading to his demise. On that fateful night, the neighbors called the police to her home. Stephen had been drinking, and he did not care for the fact that officers were knocking on his door. In fact, he went and grabbed his pistol to fight them off. The man walked out through the backdoor and ambushed them from the side of the house. He was drunk and he missed. The officers there, however, did not miss. He was shot dead on the spot, traumatizing a young Jane watching the entire thing from the living room window.

Chaos ensued. Police had to clear the home, temporarily detaining Jane and her mother for the purpose of officer safety until no additional weapon was found. In the midst of it all, Sergeant Petersen arrived at their home and took charge of the scene. It was his case now, a case that once finished, would lead to her mother developing feelings for the man. Inappropriate at the time, but not years later when she asked him out.

James eventually became Jane's step-father. Jane wasn’t sure how to feel initially, not having a male figure in her life since her pre-teens. But she told herself it was a good thing. The idea of also becoming a police officer began creeping up in her head occasionally, and given she had no other plans, that’s eventually what she did. Graduated high school, waitressed until she was old enough to join the academy, and began her career.

Currently, Jane lives alone not too far from her mother. She has no pets due to allergies but she does have a small fish tank in her study.

Up until he left off to Lexington to go to Law School, practically falling out of touch until he moved back into Pines Holler just a year ago with the intent to set up an office. How did Richard live his life, and what would he think of what he was doing with his? Soon after he turned his boundless energy to more altruistic ventures, till years later he became a veterinarian working out of a small clinic right next to his families old gunshop.

A few notes:

• The FC's are not what I would prefer in any capacity, but as long as we plan to use resources of them when they were younger, I suppose I can compromise.
• Some of the coding needs a slight touch up.
• I would really like to see a more in depth personality section. This can be done in paragraph, or bullet form. I just can't get the 'vibe' off of your characters with what little is written.
• Same thing with the history - I'm just wanting and looking for more depth. These are characters all in their 40's - they've lived a bit of life, and I'd like to hear about it. What was their childhood like? Highschool? Did they ever move away? What were their parents like? How has society affected and changed them over the years? I do realize you may have answered some of these things, but again, I would really like to see more depth and the sheet more fleshed out over all. We have until January 27th to submit characters, so please take your time.

𐂂 Body Markings: On his shoulder, there's a large raven tattooed gripping the body of a snake that wraps all the way down to his forearm where it sinks its fangs on the inside. He refuses to talk about when and why he's gotten this. He also has his ears and left eyebrow pierced, though that's kind of a bit of a secret too. He just mentions he got the ear piercings when he and his wife were very young, which isn't at all true.

_Personality:

A quiet, almost soft presence. Silvia, his doting mother, has always described Silvester as a boy eager to blend into the weeds and the thickets than to ever have even one set of eyes upon him. That has never really changed, simply solidified into the gentle rumbling of a man more willing now to be a pillar than a voice. A man who now takes on more than his shoulders can bear when already that weight was too much to begin with.

Unwilling to ask for help. Too willing to compromise. Folds under guilt like a can crumpled underfoot. Too many secrets hidden inside his thick skull he is so unwilling to share. Words like venom from his wife. Ex-wife. Divorced wife. Wife he no longer talks to. And she's right. Silvester will admit to that, maybe too quickly. He tries too hard to maintain the peace that his peace is so easily shattered.

He loves and is too willing to let that love control him. Unsteady in the desperation to be stability for the people he cares. That is Silvester, a quiet thunderstorm beholden to an inevitable twilight.

_History:

It is perhaps with a quiet melancholy that Silvester remembers where he came from. What he wished for and where he ended up are very much on two very different extremes of a spectrum he is very unwilling to label.

Failure and Dreams.

Does anyone know, truly, when they realize how different they are? Spring of his senior year in high school in the smallest, most nowhere town in all of North Carolina (and there are a lot), Silvester fell very steeply in love. Or, maybe, he simply found out something his body already knew from the beginning. More truthfully, he'd already known a long time ago that he felt unequivocal love for a boy he knew since kindergarten with head full of tight curls and the brightest, most infectious smile he'd ever known. Danny Davis from across the street with the ratty tire tied to a sturdy oak that, today, looks worse for wear but stands like a phantom from where he can still see it from his bedroom window.

All the plans set in stone from his birth—graduate high school, take a few business classes, marry his high school sweetheart, have a child, and take over the family business—faded away the instant Danny smiled at him. Asked him to crawl out onto his rooftop with a pilfered case of lukewarm Bud Light (or maybe a shared bottle of Hennessy if Danny could get away with it). Leaned in drunk and stinking of cigarettes to steal a kiss in the wild shadows of branches and leaves hiding the illicit picture of two young boys discovering something they could never share.

He was too scared. Pulled taught between obligation and desire that, though he nearly stepped through the door to trail after Danny in his escape of this shithole of a town, Silvester ultimately couldn't. Even when he told himself that maybe next year. Or the next. Or maybe never. Maybe once this thing with Daniela was over. Or until he sold the family pawn shop. Or once he felt stable enough to care for his little girl. Or maybe once she grew up.

Silvester knew it was never. And eventually, Danny stopped trying, stopped coming back, shit he stopped texting after a while. Eventually, Silvester just sort of forgot. In the turmoil of bills, a messy divorce, an aging mother, and a resentful daughter, it seemed so much less important to have freedom. Maybe there was comfort in the chains that held him to this town even as everything crumbled to dirt around him.

𐂂 Many things are too good to be true. Silvester knows that very, very well in fact. Like too white teeth over too wide of a mouth. Nothing good can come of whatever corporate shill spills out of their too deep pockets. Silvester also knows that some things are an inevitability. Death and taxes or whatever. So, it's hard to fight against the expansion knowing how little freedom he actually has in all tape wrapped around him.
𐂂 Owns three dogs, all mutts: Rosa, Mariska Hargitay (teenage daughters are fucking hilarious), and Sock Puppet (referred to as Sock)
𐂂 Drives around in a rundown Ford truck, very much on its last legs.

𐂂 Belasco's Antiquaries is a very old run store passed down through many generations of which Silvester has certainly lost track of. There's a book in the shop somewhere that could probably tell him, though he's much too frazzled and scatterbrained these days to know where it is. It's quant and tucked away downtown and incredibly, incredibly tight spaced and claustrophobic. It smells like musty wood and wet books most of the time, which often rubs off on Silvester.

I wanted to pop in and run my character concept by you before moving ahead with fleshing out the CS.

@Sugar and Spite, I saw that your character's father (Waylon Shaw) is the preacher of the Baptist church. I was toying with the idea of a youth pastor who works alongside Shaw – he sees him as a sort of mentor or father figure in his life (I'm assuming he wouldn't know about the abuse). He is also tasked with conducting funerals and providing counseling sessions for anyone in need of those services. He lives on the church property, perhaps in the former church secretary's house or something like that. I envision it as more of a shack than anything elaborate. Would something like that work?

I'm cool with the character concept. Waylon is old, and his children are estranged, so it makes sense for him to have some sort of apprentice. I'm not sure about the living on property thing, as I was only planning for it to really be the church and the graveyard. We could compromise with perhaps the old grave keepers shack? I doubt it's anything fancy at all though, and probably needs a lot of TLC that may or may not have already been done - I'll leave that one up to you. I'm imagining one of those places that you look at like 'damn, it's free, but is it worth it?' Dunno if that makes sense. But ye, the concept checks out.

Yeah, I'm totally chill with him working at the Diner - or Huskers, either way.

I just wasn't going to approve any characters with a Huskers occupation besides the ones that had already been posted (including Caleb) because so many people had that listed under their occupations already with the few characters that were up for approval. So you're good to go either route.

There is already a background for Lou's, I'm just still working on our locations.
