“Who defends the defenders…now that’s a silly question.” In Miso City, it was often difficult to remember the day to day lives of its inhabitants. While the Magical Girls residing in its borders were facing their own existential crises, those who knew naught of magic led assured, blissful lives. Ignorant lives that held no meaning and greater purpose. It was a fate that, perhaps, many Magical Girls would have liked to return to. Such was the case now, the snow blurrying without end outside the windows of a small coffee shop.

“Sheesh. It’s not that hard a question to answer you know.” Such words came from a girl who had chosen to seek refuge in this cold weather inside the coffee shop. Warm, visible steam wafted from her cup of tea as she gingerly sipped at it, enjoying the soft crowd bustle around her. Chatter of New Year plans and bemoanings of returning to work and school were all the gossip for her ears and she smiled only to herself in her solitary booth.

“You act like these people are your playthings to mess around with. Your helpless victims to protect like a shining hero. But let’s not kid ourselves; these people are having a good time,” the girl said, as if talking to someone or acknowledging herself. Another sip of her tea, the girl sighed when she heard the atmosphere swiftly change in the little shop. There was a gasp among its residents, and then thunderous, rounding applause.

A young man had just proposed to his young lover, ready to give to her his young heart and start young love. “Just look at what you did. Do these people look like they need protecting?” the girl asked, glancing away from the congratulatory festivities to look outside where the ice and snow remained. There were many Magical Girls out and about…but not much sign of their dark counterparts. Now why was that? There were certainly several Nightmares to take care of tonight.

“Have the champions of Darkness shriveled away from the weather? No, that can’t be the case and you know it.” The girl sighed lightly. “They’ll show up eventually.” The roar of a motorcycle caught her attention, one that went unnoticed by anyone else. As the girl’s eyes tracked the bike and its rider’s movements, she rested her cheek against her hands, clasping them together upon the table. “Ah, there goes one now….”

“Well. This is annoying.” Houki said this between breaths, coughing lightly from all the heat and smoke. What suffered the most were her eyes, left near-red and watery from all the debris they had plundered through just to get back to the bus. Most detrimental of all were their end results, having snagged down five dummies in total. And with Hikari choosing to join their team, they each had enough for two and a half dummies each. “If we split this between us, you can have one,” Houki said to the boy, having removed her glasses and rubbing her eyes along her jacket sleeve. “Since you just joined us, Minami and I will take two for ourselves. If that’s fair for you.”

Before the boy could give answer, Minami had chimed in with their next plan of action. Houki had nothing to add, merely nodding in approval. There were still dummies to save back in Zone 5 after all. Even so, she was surprised to see the cat girl take it upon herself to divide up the dummies; though where Minami had gotten that pen from was perhaps the biggest mystery of all. Houki stood silent for a few moments before taking said pen and marking down her assigned dummies; one of the adults and the child.

“Did you not want to take more for yourself?” was all she had to ask as Minami signed her name on only one. Then she shrugged, swiftly double-checking her name was marked on hers before leaving them at the bus. If Minami wanted to be charitable so be it; the cat girl was confident they would get more on the return trip all. Though Houki felt that this time there would be much more in terms of obstacles in their way.

That was why she chimed in with, “This is still an exam. Meaning we need to be on our guard this time. I don’t think we avoided villains by accident.” Her eyes dry from all her rubbing, she glanced over back towards Zone 5’s fiery entrance. “We should be careful of what lays ahead.” That said, she motioned for the other two to follow along, leading the way back where they had come from.

Along the way they passed by several other groups of students, each of them no doubt carrying dummies of their own; Houki didn’t much care since they had all split into different sectors anyway. However, she did pass a glance at Mari, wincing at the injury she had sustained and trying to give her a look of encouragement. Hopefully the girl had understood her gesture…

What was concerning, however, was the sound of apparent battle coming from right where they were going. Lo and behold, entering Zone 5 brought with it a sight to see; the boy from earlier, Kaito, as well as an old hag of a woman.

A muttered sigh escaped Houki’s breath and she glanced from the burning buildings back to Kaito. “I am going to regret this. But if the hag is a villain and not some deluded teacher from the school, we may need to help him out. Minami, you continue to find any civilians,” she said, looking at the cat girl. Assuming Hikari was still with them, she would turn to him and ask, “What is your Quirk? If it’s offensive, be ready. We may need to step in at any moment to help our teammate.”

[Moved to Zone 5 with Minami and possibly Hikari, on standby for Kaito and the Hag.]

Three days had passed since Christmas time cheer and festivities in Miso City. Three days since the coldest day of the year. Three days since Luna’s untimely and gruesome murder. The news had, as one would expect, been delivered by the ever-faithful companions of Magical Girls; Mascots. It took some time to decipher what those symbols meant, but it became clear through physical evidence of the deed that had been done. For the dark girls, Chiaki’s face was more than enough proof; for Luna’s fleeting companions, it was her mangled corpse in the snow.

Naturally, each girl went about their lives as one should expect. But the lingering shadow of doubt had been cast over those Magical Girls in Miso City. The reality could not be denied. One of their own had been murdered. To those of the light, it meant someone was suspect of tainted ideals. To their darker halves, it meant someone had broken the most sacred code of the Detention Club. There was no ignoring the implications Luna’s death had left behind, implications that had persisted for three days now.

There were those in suspect; those who had entered their parties late, or perhaps chosen to leave early. Enemies lay on both sides, be it light or dark. Yet all could feel that there was something strange and new now laying dormant in the city. An overwhelming presence was walking among the streets, undisturbed and unreported amongst the flurrying icy weather of Miso City. Whatever it was, it brought with it winds of change for the inhabitants of the city.

Still, the Nightmares were not concerned by the machinations of man. If anything, the grief Luna’s death had left behind spurned them onwards, causing erratic behavior among them. More and more attacks were mounting up and the Nightmares were becoming bolder and bolder in their patterns, feasting on humans from even before nightfall. It would mean more work for the Magical Girls of Miso City, both light and dark.

On this evening in particular, a heavy spike of Nightmares was hitting the populace. School was still out for the citizens, allowing more freedom for now to the Magical Girls. Although Touka did not publicly announce the order, it was expected for the Detention Club to sweep over the masses of creatures and further bolster themselves. Likewise, it was a light girl’s duty to protect the city from such insatiable hunger. Business as usual.

Still, there was the inkling of fowl play sifting through the air. The new presence that had entered the city was dormant for now, but it was anyone’s guess when they would spark activity of their own. Furthermore, there was no telling who Luna’s killer was, despite theories and pointed fingers. All that could be done was to fulfill their duties in the only way Magical Girls knew how. With the Mascots watching their backs.

I give them one more day.
Or it's a test from the GM to see who remains once it hits 10 pages.
@Lonewolf685

She's fine by me.
Great, another Eris.

Jin looked up, smiling at her partner beneath her layers of clothes. Her book was set aside, keeping her pinky between the closed covers to mark her place, while she remained a good audience. "Aw, you didn't have to, you street genie. But here." Before she took her present, she produced a book of her own. Not as neatly wraped, in fact, not really wrapped at all. Just tied up with loose string in a plastic sack that it probably came from. "Its not much, but this was one of my favorite stories." She felt cheesy talking about how much she loved her copy of the book and how she adored the two protagonists's bond. Trailing off at the end of her sentence as she quickly exhanged the two gifts, trying to hide her light blush.

Before she realized it, her bookmark was gone and she sighed slightly as she rummaged back to where she was. Her partner had bagan offering chocolate to everyone; and, despite the ones who left, everyone seemd to really kick up thhe festivities. She closed her book once more and put it away with her present. Ami had called her over and she wasn't going to spend all night alone at the party. She walked over and took the seat offered to her with a nod. "Sweet enough~?" She poured herself a cup as well. She felt obligated to put some in, given the girl next to her, but she barely put in a fourth of a teaspoon. Sticking safe to her preference of black coffee.

Taking two takoyaki and sitting down, Ayumu chuckled. "But parties are a magician's natural environment!" she replied to Ami's remark. She had to keep up the act, after all. "Talking of such," she commented, staring in fascination at Rania's summoned skeletons, "that's one impressive trick right there. Fits the decor to a T." She handed one takoyaki to Jin and nibbled at the batter of her own, although she wasn't all that hungry. Her stomach still roiled with a sick feeling from earlier.

Wearing her smile like a mask, she looked over at Jin. "Coffee, warm snacks and a living heater," she said, with a glance at Ami. "Just what we could do with right now. And..." The playful glint in her eyes turned mellow as she rested her hand on the gift bag, which now contained her own Christmas present. "Thanks for the book, I hope you like yours."

As someone who'd always loved to get lost in make believe, a book was the perfect gift for her too, her own tastes often matching Jin's. Stories where things turned out alright in the end, with characters whose bonds held fast no matter what... This time, Ayumu didn't have to fake her smile, a hint of a blush spreading over her face.

With one raised hand, Rania refused the treat. "Thank you, but no thanks. I have seen...enough of those for a life time. As you may imagine." Changing position in the chair, she rested her cheek against her hand, elbow on the makeshift skeletal chair arm.

"Oh?" The perspective of juicy stories about the current President was interesting. "I wonder how such stories would contrast with the ones I have heard up until now." she said, playfully, as her eyes shifted briefly to Touka. "Alas, keep your stories for another time." Rania stood up, her skeletons standing up as well and eerily dancing, mimicking the multitude of Ayumu's Goblins, before slowly vanishing into dark dust as she walked towards the door. "It was a pleasure to meet you all, I suppose. I am not half as disappointed as I thought I would be."

Chiaki was gone longer than her usual. Rania did not worry, per say, for her companion but...it was unusual of her. They also were together for a long time - she felt something was wrong. "Well, President, thank you for having us as briefly as it was. I wish you all Happy Holdiday and Good Luck." With this, she opened her Umbrella and was out the door.

"You'd be surprised how many of the skeletons buried in past president's closets are less of the 'mortal peril' variety and more 'pants-on-head stupid' variety. Some nights the Detention Club acted more like a college fraternity. Mmmm, good times..." Kanbaru purred, lost in the bliss of waxing poetic about past glory. At last her eyes snapped open, only to find her audience both uninterested and shortly thereafter absent all together.

Thinking that could have gone better and now craving some social interaction, she went back to the kitchen and starting rooting around in the fridge. She triumphantly cried out as she returned, two jugs of spiced egg nog held up high before setting them on a counter and rummaging for glasses. Pouring the thick delicasy liberally among a dozen glasses, she raised one into the air and declared for all to hear, "Everyone, a toast to the end of a good year with even better friends, and a greater year to come!"

Elina arrived somewhat late for the party, her entire evening was mostly simply getting here. The busses were slow and arrived late and her walking speed wasn't all that swift with all this snow under her feet. She walked up to the place and took a quick glance around to perhaps spot her partner in the cold but like she much expected she wasn't there yet. She clicked with her tongue as she took the oppertunity to move into the restaurant instead of the cold. Elina stamped the snow of her boots before making her way inside immediatly being meeted with a handfull of girls she had never seen before. Her cheeks reddend while her eyes turned to the ground. This was quite awkward, especially when she was carrying this giant bento box with food. Elina took a quick gulp before she tried to introduce herself to the rest.

"G-good evening, m-my name is E-elina a-and I'm new t-to the club I suppose..."

Yes quite awkwardly but it did do. Elina glanced over all the girls and was able to discover that nobody else supposidly wore a christmas outfit unlike her. On her head was a nice cozy christmas hat and a whole outfit under her jacket but her jacket was still on so nobody was able to see it yet, she wore a full red christmass dress with socks.

"I-I brought some f-food. It is rice with tender pork meat. I-I hope you'll l-like it."

She was a little nervous just because of her clothing decision this evening.
