Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

roleplayerguild.com/posts/5… If anyone's up for fighting some kaiju, why not try out my new RP, Godzilla: YATAGARUSU?

  • Name: Estelle Varianbec
  • Age: 4. Physically she can be said to look around nine or ten, and mentally she is roughly in her late teens or early twenties.
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: "You lost this fight the moment you doubted me."
  • Personality: Estelle is seemingly a cocky, arrogant girl who flaunts her inherent aptitude with magecraft. She is a well-read and knowledgeable girl on top of this, quick to use all forms of research to support her perceived superiority. She has very little patience for others as well, and is prone to begin mocking and taunting those she believes deserve it without hesitation. Estelle is also liable to flaunt what she believes is a cute and endearing appearance granted to her by the Varianbec family. Beneath all of this is a childish wonder at the world, and a desire to experience as much as she can in spite of the situation her life has been spent preparing her for. She feels some level of resentment towards her family, in a way, due to tight control that is normally kept on her movements. Estelle is determined to do whatever it is she can to enjoy herself in whatever amount of time she has. While she is not without compassion, she is still a very haughty and bossy girl with a mild sadistic streak.
  • Skills:
  • Abilities: As Estelle is a homunculus, it is more accurate to describe her as a human created to be a magic circuit rather then a human created to be a magus. Her body contains an enormous amount of high-quality circuits, making her an incredibly potent wielder of magecraft. Her body is frail, but her magecraft carries an intense potency most exemplified in her choices made when in battle. She can construct a localized bounded field to defend herself from damage, and produce multiple points from which to fire beams of intensely destructive prana. A high-grade mystery in terms of modern magecraft, these beams are devised from numerous formulas from the Varianbec family's past in order to create a potent offensive weapon, a tool created specifically for the Grail War in order to best assure her own survival and defeat of the other Masters if she must. If required, she can unite the independent points to create a single, more dangerous blast of prana. As a homunculus, she is capable in all areas that her family excels in, such as the direction and flow of prana and the reconstruction of damaged familiars. Finally, she is accompanied by an assortment of homunculus maids. These maids may be converted into a set of Mystic Codes if absolutely necessary, a defensive dress and a wand for channeling prana.
  • Brief Backstory: Estelle was created as a receptacle for all of the Varianbec family's artifice. A sole individual who could continue the family's work even after the rest of them were gone. And, indeed, the rest of the Varianbec family no longer exists. All that remains is Estelle and the series of lesser homunculi they created for her care and upkeep. These homunculi were left with a strict series of orders ensuring that Estelle is not permitted to wander freely due to the importance of her existence. However, one of their key purposes was in grooming Estelle for participation in a future Grail War. The Varianbec family participated in the conception and creation of the Redrock Grail prior to their sudden disappearance, and as a result, Estelle was groomed to be their entry into the Redrock Grail War.

Masters:
Counting people who have come back, provided that they want the same slots, our open slots are currently...

Caster or Archer.
Rider.

Sorry that it's so few but given this is a reboot to regain a decent pace/clean some things up I wanted to give returning players priority. ^^;

In any case, given there's a lot of interest so fast...

Here's an OOC!

Incidentally, please remember to PM character ideas to @Rin as well. She is my co-GM.

It's been years.

Years since the last war for the Holy Grail concluded in Fuyuki City. Years since the final combatant fell, and the war concluded in the destruction of the Grail itself. And the remnants, too, were dismantled, cast apart by a former participant. Indeed, the Fuyuki Holy Grail has been utterly annihilated, no longer to be of any use. And yet...

Some of the components remained. The allure of a wish-granting artifact that could be used to obtain the Root of all Knowledge proved itself to be too great. The scattered fragments of the Holy Grail were assembled, rituals and replications of previous techniques were used to attempt to piece them together. And yet, they could never fully recreate the Grail that had been created by the Einzberns. But with the fragments they had collected, with the pieces that had been recovered and recreated, they were able to produce a copy, a replica of the original Grail. A hacked together, improvised system that was not fully tested nor fully explored, but a replica of the original nevertheless.

This creation, this new Holy Grail, this copy of the original, was placed in the coastal United States town of Redrock. Named for the reddish stone jutting up from its beaches, the town is not known for any kind of unusual activity. And yet it happens to be the location of one of the highest concentrations of leylines in the United States. Far from Japan, there was no way for the participants of the last War to attempt to interfere if they so chose. At least, as far as the creators of this new Grail were concerned. A variety of interests converge now, on Redrock.

The Mage Association, suspicious and yet intrigued by the revival of the failed ritual. The Church, desiring once again to see if this truly is a recreation of a holy relic. They have even dispatched one of their most potent Executors as an overseer.

An overseer for a new Holy Grail War.

The town of Redrock is a sleepy, peaceful town. While it is not rural, far from it, it is not an immense city. It shares many similarities, in fact, with the small city of Fuyuki that the war once occurred in. It possesses its own attractions, including the Redrock Amusement Park and the aged catacombs dating back to the birth of the United States.

It would do well for the participants in this new war to gain experience with their surroundings.

So... a Fate RP! The above introduction should probably have covered setting well enough, but I'm going to lay down some quick ground rules before I go further.

  • No Servants Older than Gilgamesh
    • That's canon.
  • No Servants from 1900 or later
    • Known rule of the setting, even if I do think there's some cool candidates from beyond then. Sadly, Simo Hayha will never qualify for anything but perhaps the most far-flung future Grail Wars.
  • No Servants with more then three Noble Phantasms
    • Isn't that enough? Most have one or two. More crosses into far too much power.
  • Standard Seven
    • We'll be having seven servants and seven masters summoning said Servants. Sorry, but this is going to be a traditional grail war,
so first come first serve when it comes to classes. ^^; In addition, players from the last version of the RP will be allowed first pick of Servant slots.
  • Servant bios are PRIVATE
    • I want all Servant bios to be PMed to me and my co-GM. We will both judge the bios there. This is purely for fun, since Servant identities are meant to be kept secret as possible, and if it doesn't work out then Servant bios will be posted publicly.
  • Please sign up with both a Servant and a Master
    • This hurts the last point a little, but ensures there is balance in numbers. Don't worry, you won't be playing with yourself. Pairs will be arranged between players, or I can pair people if they're stuck.
  • If you get yourself into a situation where your character may be killed, I'm sorry
    • The premise of this RP guarantees that Servants will be dying. And if your Master messes up, they're at risk too. However, Servants at least are all famous figures from the past, and shouldn't go down easily.
  • No reality marbles
    • These are super-rare. Exceptions MAY be made but it's unlikely.
  • Have fun!
    • That's what this RP is here for. Follow standard RP etiquette and my guidelines, and you should have no problem.
  • Tiger Dojo
Finally, @Rin will be helping me run this RP, and will naturally be in charge of the Tiger Dojo.

For a few different reasons I've decided to reboot the RP.

I feel like this was needed to help some people get back in the swing of things and revitalize the premise.

Saber

For a few moments, Saber was silent. That did explain it... certainly, her Magic Resistance had prevented the curse from completing its grisly work. What her Master said made plenty of sense. It had pierced all her defenses and attacked inside of her. It had appeared like blades in the interior of her body and attempted to cut its way out. If the curse had been allowed to finish its work, she would have perished on the first night. Even the thought of that was something horrible. The white-haired girl no longer wanted to contemplate such a possibility. She would serve her Master to her absolute fullest.

"It may be that Caster possesses a long ranged Noble Phantasm," Saber responded, frowning to herself and folding her arms. After a short pause, she raised her eyes once more to gaze at her Master. "Regardless of what threats were are encountered with, however, I won't let you be harmed!"

She gave Mira a firm, confident smile. She couldn't allow such a thing ever to happen again.

"... But I think defeating Caster as soon as possible is for the best," she added, "... If you would permit my suggestion, Master."

After another moment's pause, she continued.

"... I... have another selfish request, Master, ah..." she paused. "... I should like to investigate the town during the day. I... I know you are concerned about being attacked, but... My Lord, I think it would be for the best that I know our battlefield. We won't be attacked during the day, so, ah..."

She hesitated again. This was unfair to her Master, wasn't it? It make such a request after the attack last night. But Saber feared a lack of knowledge of their location could be even more deadly towards her Master then simply being attacked.

@Feyblue
Of the trolls, several had now been engaged in combat. The one that had attacked Klaus roared and attacked in a blind, drug-induced fury. Any injuries that were not lethal would not halt the creatures, and one of its mighty swipes sent one of the orcs that had formally been its handler flying, sending him to the ground with a sickening crunch of breaking bones and splitting flesh.

The troll attacking Tyaethe had not yet realized it had lost a hand. So addled by drugs was it that it continued to attempt to use the bleeding stump as a bludgeon, slamming it to the ground. This tactic, of course, only caused the beast to lose more blood, spewing dark red onto the ground beneath it as the paladin hacked away at its thick hide, cutting into its flesh with each blow. It staggered, losing more blood by the moment... but still it attacked, lashing out with its remaining hand in an attempt to grab the armored target.

Sir Ricard's charge, orcs crushed underfoot or scattered, was a successful one. The troll he chose to attack was bowled over, pinned under the massive wolf's bulk. It was not killed by the impact, however, its hands grasping at the enormous wolf. While trolls were stupid, and not fast, their immense strength was legendary. Ricard would have to take care not to allow its grip to grow too strong before it was dispatched.

Salz's attack had, seemingly, managed to surprise even the drugged troll. But it wasn't enough to harm it, not noticeably at least. Letting out a snarl, the rocky-skinned beast grasped an unlucky orc in one hand and reared back before hurling it directly at the half-giant knight, before promptly charging her.

One troll had been slain, a lance piercing through its eye and buried in its skull. The others were steadily engaging themselves in the swarm of knights... though as icy weapons pierced the hide of one of the hulking creatures, it turned and roared, slowly beginning to pick up its pace towards the archers and magi some distance away... It was clearly being harmed by the weapons piercing its flesh, but it was not yet slowing down, picking up its pace...

Fanilly darted to the side as the orc's club slammed down. Even as she did, another of the barbaric creatures charged towards her. Taking a chance, she spun and took the orc's head as the larger of the two pulled its club from the earth. She had to wait for it to attack again before she could strike... if she could get one solid blow towards its body...!

The orc snarled and charged towards her, raising its club. Fanilly swiftly darted to the side once more as the club swung down and-

It was swatted to the side, and something struck Fanilly in the chest and knocked the wind clear out of her. Letting out a gasp, the blonde knight landed on her back and skidded backwards. It was quickly obvious her new attacker was one of the hulking trolls charging towards the Roses...

It was distracted, for just long enough for Fanilly to stagger back to her feet. A troll... she had to try and take it on. Her armor hand managed to protect her from harm, its dwarven make rendering it incredibly sturdy. But any more hits like that...

And then, next to Tiral, there was a voice. The voice of a girl, a child, saying...

"The Captain may need your help soon~"

But there was no-one there.
And I got Okita-san Daishouri on the paid gacha, who was one of the ones I most wanted because limited.

Paid gacha was nice, but to others it was cruel. D:
The Knights crashed upon the orc raiding force and tore through them. Unprepared for a sudden attack from the rear, the raiding orcs were falling in mass numbers. Fanilly's blade took one orc's head from its shoulders, sending the corpse to the ground. But even with their initial momentum, the numbers of the enemy were enough that most of them were unable to reach the walls. Indeed, Fanilly found herself swiftly caught in melee, fending off orcish attacks as the enemy turned and attempted to fight. Still, they had decimated the backline of the orcs, slaughtering many of the beastly raiders in the initial charge.

Fanilly slashed once more, piercing through the black, angular armor of one orc and dashing off its helmet. Beneath were the pointed ears, grey skin, sharpened teeth, and gnarled, mangled face expected of one of the barbaric monsters as it fell dead. Their armor, while clearly made for intimidation, was not particularly strong. A finely-crafted sword such as Fanilly's was easily capable of cleaving through the cheap metals and delivering a lethal blow. No, the issue came in their numbers, not in their individual power.

Just how many orcs had reached this place? Their numbers seemed to reach at least five hundred. How had so many gotten so close to the capital, so quickly?

Fanilly's mare reared, its hooves coming down to bowl another orc over, sending in snarling to the ground. However, as she prepared to urge her horse forward, the blonde girl suddenly felt something sharply impact her side. Even through her armor it knocked the wind out of her, forcing her off her horse and to the side.

Rolling onto her back as she hit the ground, Fanilly cursed herself inwardly for not being aware of her surroundings. She'd gotten unhorsed in a cavalry charge... one that she'd been leading. However, there was little time for self-castigation, as an enormous blunt object suddenly came careening towards her head.

Rolling once more, catching herself and getting back to her feet, the blonde girl felt the rush of air as the club slammed into the dirt beside her.

Before her was the largest of the orcs she had seen so far, large enough that it seemed like it had perhaps been the product of one troll parent, as disturbing as that was to imagine. It let out a roar, then something in the harsh orcish tongue, before hurling itself towards her and forcing her to dodge and backpedal. Her parrying dagger wouldn't be any use against such a large weapon...! There were the other orcs to be concerned about as well...

Near the wall, many of the orcish forces had fallen dead, pierced by ice, lightning, or arrows. The trolls, as well, had taken their share of damage. But their hides were thick, and their pain dulled by drugs fed to them by orcish chiefs.

They were huge beasts, with almost rocky, grey skin. Vaguely apelike-faces were also equipped with sharp teeth, their arms longer then their legs, long enough to nearly trail on the ground.

The trolls were now beginning to turn away from the wall. There were ten in total, the hulking creatures towering above their allies as they began to thunder towards the attacking knights.

The one Tyaethe had attacked, however, let out a bellow and turned towards her, raising both hands and balling them into fists before swinging them down towards the paladin.
